Palin: Hockey mom experience on 'executive side' of the sport

Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.
Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Sarah Palin seems to have slipped effortlessly into the role of John McCain’s attack dog - but those aggressive tendencies may have been cultivated many years ago as an “exuberant” hockey mom in Wasilla, where she used to bang her fists on the penalty box glass and demand that her son get tougher with his opponents on the ice.

At least that’s how she described her time as a hockey mom to Comcast SportsNet’s Steve Coates, who interviewed Palin after she dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ season opener on Saturday night. The governor recounted how she used to embarrass her son Track by yelling at him from the side of the rink, telling him to play nice. But if he was going to play rough, Palin said, she gave him license to go all out.

“I was telling him be nice, and if you’re going to get a penalty, man, make it worth it!,” she told Coates. “Don’t just be picking on somebody. Grind ‘em into the boards! Do something that’s going to be effective. Don’t just be picking on someone.”

Palin said she soon put her energies into the “executive side” of the youth hockey team instead of shouting at her embarrassed son from behind the glass.

“I put my passion towards hockey to better use by becoming the hockey manager,” she said. “The team mom. You know, working on the stats, working on the management, the executive side of the sport, and hopefully that was put to better use. I was pretty exuberant.”

I wish they would put up the post just made by "Cuban-mama_OBAMA" outside of every polling place next November 4th. She totally gets it. If, after everything that's been said and done over the last 30 days, McCain still wins this election, the country will only be getting what it deserves. When the electorate makes its decisions based on emotion and ideology rather than intelligent pragmatism, it will end up with the same brainless dogmatists for leaders that we've had for the last 8 years.

Palin is a dangerous woman – she is no soccer mom!!!!
Her campaign lies and hatefilled words will get someone killed before this election over.
I fear for our country right now because of the words McCain and Palin are spewing.
Somebody better shut her and McCain up.
CNN should stop showing McCain's campaign rallys and tell McCain the reason why.

OMG. Isn't she tough. Look closely to what she is actually saying. She is saying it is ok to play dirty so long as you play dirty to the extreme. These are not the kind of values we need.

People are so into everything Palin says or does, be it good or bad. It is amazing the attention she receives. She is, if nothing else, interesting. I will write Hillary on my ballot, as neither party has much to offer.

Congrats CNN. McCain/Palin mission accepted and accomplished. Make the photo op work by failing to mention she got booed out of the building. Come on, this is as bad as Fox News...ok, sorry that was harsh...but come ON!

Management of hockey teams is all about "community organizing" and a junior high scholl student can do it.Pretty certain there is no amateur league in the world that would call it the "Executive Side" as it is done by volunteers. As Palin severly lacks political savvy and experience I can see her twisting this into Executive Experience but she will not fool the millions of hockey volunteers. She will get a much louder boo next time she attends half a hockey game.

Is she seriously attempting to spin her past role as an obnoxious little-league parent into some sort of "executive experience" credential?

This is not a serious person. Our country deserves better.

Some family values.... to pound your fists on the penalty box and yell at your son, “Don’t just be picking on somebody. Grind ‘em into the boards! Do something that’s going to be effective. Don’t just be picking on someone.” Oh, the rage of McCain/Palin brings out the best qualities in the GOP base, doesn't it?

Will she use the same advice for her foreign diplomacy efforts?

So being a Hockey team Manager adds to her Executive qualifiations? Well George Bush has set the bar: if HE can become President, so can anyone else (or be Vice President). Somehow I believe there are "Hockey Moms" out there who would do a much better job than Sarah Palin as Vice Pres.
