Biden calls McCain out on his negative attacks.

ROCHESTER, New Hampshire (CNN) – Shortly before John McCain set to lay out his new stump speech Monday morning, Joe Biden said it looked like the address would be “attack, attack, attack, attack” in contrast with Barack Obama’s plans to lay out his vision for the economy later in the day.

Watch: What is McCain really offering?

“Barack is going to make a major speech on economic policy, going to further outline what he’s going to do and how he’s going to deal with it,” said the Democratic vice presidential nominee. “It looks like John McCain’s entire speech is going to be attack, attack, attack, attack.”

“It couldn’t be clearer to me what’s going on here. John McCain wants to attack Barack Obama, and Barack Obama wants to [attack] the problems that face America today,” he said.

The McCain campaign shot back, calling Obama’s economic plan "plagiarism" of President Herbert Hoover’s during the Great Depression and championing their own “bold” proposal.

"The Obama-Biden ticket’s call for higher taxes on American businesses and isolationist trade policies mirrors the proposals that President Hoover implemented at the onset of the Great Depression, spurring a complete economic collapse," McCain spokesman Ben Porritt wrote in an e-mail. "It's plagiarism of the very worst economic policies in American history."

The Delaware senator said McCain had an advantage in the campaign has a war hero and people assumed that as a result, he would have “certain hands” in a crisis.

“We need more than a war hero, we need more than a great soldier, we need a wise leader,” said Biden. “John's hands have been anything but certain in the last year. They've been uncertain. And the McCain administration would be uncertain, clinging to the past, lurching from one bad idea to another.”

To all my fellow Americans of all colors. Racism will make this race way closer than it should be, this is the 2 ton elephant everyone is reluctant to let in the room. There is no logical explanation as to why anyone but die hard repugs could even consider voting for McCain and Palin, considering how they have conducted their campaign this past month. Obama's lead should be at least 3 times what it is. To all white, Latino, and even some African Americans who can't get past the man's skin color or his name remember this, voting for the white guy out of spite for the black guy is as dumb as cutting your nose off to spite your face. And if you idiots succeed, we'll all suffer from your ignorance.

The republican party has reached it's low by allowing McCain and Palin to incite hate and terrorism and treason on their campaign trail. They will lose millions of votes....and any honor they had left.

MCCain and Palin are exciting the crowds! By pandering and not telling
the American people the truth.
On healthcare, McCain wants to give your employer an escape from
paying for your healthcare. It will be optional for your employer! Should
they choose to oblige, you pay taxes on your healthcare, which will take a chunk of your little check! The $5,000 credit you would receive
is only money that you have earned!!!!! You just don't have to pay taxes
on it. My friends, you still won't be able to afford healthcare! And your family will not be covered.!!!!! on that!Think
about that one, my friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it unrealistic to imagine McCain/Palin conceding the election just before the bell tolls? Thereby promoting unity and at the same time buffering them, somewhat, from the disastrous consequences of their actions. The angry conservatives can feel good about saying that McCain never actually lost the vote, and McCain could truly be considered a maverick who put country first. He has no need to apologize for losing the election, he can openly state that Obama has a vision for America that is undeniable.

Kim   October 13th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

GO JOE!!!! Get ready, though, because those nasty "Obama is an Arab" emails etc are going to start swirling around even more. Remember that little old lady talking to McSame on the news? She finally said she can't 'trust" Obama because "he's.....Arab". See, all those "Barack Hussein Obama" comments are paying off. I sure didn't hear McCain say no ma'am, that isn't true!!! So as long as he allows people to spread The fearmongering is going to get worse in the next 3 weeks. GO O, AND JOE!!

rob   October 13th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

The tolerant left is at it again, just read these and other posts and remember the veiled threats being made if Obama loses.

The left will try to silence its critics in talk radio, they will get rid of the secret union ballots, punish those who succede(250000 and over), they will cut spending only in the military and sit down with the sworn enemies of this country. The Dems thrive on bad news and chaos. Its the only way they can win.

Don't let CNN or the other Obama backers in the MSM convince us that McCain is finished. Its only 6 points and there are 3 weeks to go.

Bridgette-PA   October 13th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

"SWEETIE" – You sound out of touch just like the Republican ticket. You sound confused and very afraid. John McSame told you on Friday that you don't have to be afraid of an "OBAMA PRESIDENCY". Senator Obama is admirable. He is presidential and shows he is very ready to lead. He is focused, collected, intelligent and dignified, rising ABOVE inappropriate attacks on his character. In this turbulent and confusing time, he shows his steadiness, stability and genuine desire to help people stay calm. We need these attributes in a respectable and truly caring leader.

With Senator Biden, who has also shown that he is fully capable as Vice President, I believe and trust the Obama/Biden ticket to keep America great, especially for the future of my children and grandchildren.

Last week, during Palin and McCain rallys when all the lies and hate were being stirred up, after hearing the racist comments at these rally's i began to cry, me a 38yr old black women, because I thought, this is what the world is like, in 2008. There is still that much hate in white america's mind and heart. But i have tried my tears, after reading the comments against this hateful rhetoric, I know that the display at those rally's was just a small percentage of how people feel, and just maybe there is a real chance that "That One" The right one who can lead us, will be in the White House come January.

Yeah.. I'm sure Putin and Ahmandinijab both prefer him.. because they both probably know that he's a president willing to actually talk first and shoot later.

But to say France, Britain, and Germany don't like Obama?? Are you kidding? They LOVE him over there. People went out to see him by the hundreds of thousands. People all throughout the entire WORLD are praying that we're not stupid and racist enough to elect McCain. Go to some international blogs.. talk to people in foreign countries. The only ones that truly want McCain are the people in parts of THIS country.. everybody else in the world is baffled that McCain could even be close in an election that Obama is so obviously the better man for the job.

Paul   October 13th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Chill-Baby-Chill. Palin needs to go back to journalism school and study the definition of "abuse of power". Caribou Barbie is actually denying that she abused power despite the bipartisan findings.

And I loved McCain's Virginia stump speech with more flat out lies about Obama's positions on taxes and healthcare.

People are tired of the division and the HATE that the Republicans have always used to divide us as a nation.
It worked in 2000, and that's why I was so shocked that it happened again in 2004. I thought we'd be more diligent!
Even people who are wary of people who are "different" from what they've known are waking up to the realization that the same old thing will bring us the same old pain!
We must stand as one nation, or we will all fall down. I think that it took Wall Streets' robbing of the country,to open the eyes of an America that seemed to be in a drugged state of sleep.

Go Biden! Biden, Bill and Hillary did a good job in Scranton yesterday! I was at home in Texas fired up!

Gene   October 13th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

There you go again, Joe! How can't you accuse McCain of running an attack campaign after he just said that he doesn't want to attack Obama personally. Oh wait.. maybe it's because McCain's been doing nothing but attacking him personally for months, inciting riotous behavior from his supporters, instilling fear in people, trying to portray Obama as a terrorist. But hey... 2 days ago at least he denounced the rumor that Obama was an Arab... so now he's back on American Hero status.

Sorry.. even as he now says he wants to be civil.. because he sees that his negative campaigning is dropping him in polls... he still hasn't put his pit bull on a leash. And the fact is.. if the polling showed that the negative lying attacks were helping him come up in polls.. he'd be doubling up on them.

Weepy   October 13th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! That's the whole idea. The Dems send an untried fool out to bamboozle the hoi-poloi. What should we expect from ANY opponent of Obama? McCain's attacks seem to be the only thing some people hear, 'cause they sure don't seem to listen!

Susan   October 13th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

So is Obama's............and I am for Obama, but getting real tired of the negative remarks from both candidates.

Andy   October 13th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I'm not sure exactly what books the McCain campaign uses to learn about American history, but I guess they are written by Jerome Corsi as they apparently have no facts. Hoover raised the highest tax bracket to 63%. Obama's raise back to the Reagan-era 40% is hardly comparable. Not to mention Hoover doubled the estate tax and raised the corporate tax by 15%. Oh yeah and there was the check tax Hoover instituted as well. Despite the fact that what I just explained doesn't look anything like Obama's plan, I guess the McCain campaign can just continue to lie and look like the idiots they are. And by the way, John, Hoover was a Republican. I believe FDR saved the day. He was a Democrat. The only resemblance between this era and that one is the the GOP caused a depression and now us Democrats have to come save the day. You can thank us later.

Obama supporters better be prepared for Joe Biden to run the US because with all the crazy, angry Republicans at McCain's events lately... I have a bad feeling about Obama's presidency. He will be no more safe than President Kennedy who also tried to change the country for the better.

California Gold   October 13th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

The difference between the two candidates (McCain and Obama) is so stark. Obama is addressing the issues and offering solutions to our problems. McCain only seems to be able to talk about kicking his opponent, creating fears about abstract issues, skirting the grave issues that face our country and telling us he's a maverick who hasn't done a whole lot for the 26 years he's taken up air space in Congress. But Obama has not once campaigned that McCain is old, feeble minded, out of touch, arrogant, lazy, stupid and down right ignorant. McCain has proven that to be true each time he opens his mouth.

With our economy being as bad as the last depression while we owe trillions to a communist country and are fighting 2 wars on a different continent and losing American lives in the process, I wonder if Rev. Wright's preaching was not prophetic. Isaiah, Elijah, all the prophets told God's children to clean up their act or face retribution. Just a thought. Can we continue to be the most powerful nation in the world if we're broke? We can drill to China and that won't solve our dependence on other countries for oil. This country needs to change.

Carol in Wyoming   October 13th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Thanks for your words of wisdom, Joe. I am a life-long Republican who is disgusted with McCain for what he has become in this desperate reach for the Presidency. When he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, that really sealed the deal for me. I will now vote for Obama/Biden this election. I am really disturbed at the hate emails I have received from acquaintances, which spout untruths about Obama. I have written back to all of them, giving them links to the truth, but I worry about all those that go unchallenged. Please be aware that this is going on behind the scenes, and that there is no way of knowing just how many people are being reached in this way.

Betty   October 13th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

That is what his voters want him to do. They are mad, they see what media refuses to show. I am getting the same thing from Democrats on my online posts. The conduct, the snide remarks, the attempts to insult... show their lack of character. But, in actuality, the accusations of bigotry, racisim... all began by the dems. Obama committee is inciting racism, are taking advantage of the issue to incite the African Americans to voting for Barack Obama. This election has brought a split where much was healed before, now the wound again festers, thanks to those Democrats behind the scenes. My anger comes with that... the taking advantage of the people, the american people, no one race, no one creed, no one color. All Americans.

John McCain is a reactionist. Remember his charge down to Lousiana before the hurricane? For What ? A photo Op! What did he accomplish there? He suspended his campaign and wasn't going to debate because of the economic crisis but when the meeting with the president blew up in his face with his own party at odds he changes his mind. Now the attacks on Obama. He gets his supporters whipped into a frenzy over imflamitory and untrue accusations then backs off when he sees how dangerous this is. There is a pattern here of POOR JUDGEMENT. Not to mention the Palin pick for VP. I want a President that has a level head in a crisis not one that charges ahead blindly to "save the day". Think about it America, if he makes such poor choices in his campaign how will he run the country?

Pee for Poultice   October 13th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Wasn't it the state of Ohio that in 2004 cast the final deciding vote that handed the election to George W. Bush?

I distinctly remember a major election, having to wait almost until midnight for results from Ohio, who now incidentally, are being ravaged by astronomical unemployment rates and other economic ills as a result of voting against their own interests.

WHAT – ARE THESE PEOPLE STUPID? When will Ohio learn that "when you sow to the wind, you reap the world-wind!!!"

I listened to McCain speeches today and all I hear is a noun, a verb and Obama. No details, no solutions to issues of the day.

Oh! I almost forgot....another term I hear is "fight", fight', "fight'. McCain cannot get away from war terms, warmongering and fear.

I'm beginning to believe that the Republican base is getting tired of his rhetoric and that becomes disastrous for McCain.

josephine   October 13th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Senator McCain gets desperate and keeps trying one tactic after another. Senator Obama stays calm and keeps on going. Senator Biden is also strong and calm. That's what we need now, strong, calm, intelligent people. President Bush has taken our country to the brink of ruin and I don't think anyone can claim high intelligence there. Senators McCain and Palin are reactive, angry people, and again no sign of high intelligence. They seem to only react and attack and I'm so tired of theat!

Can John M do anything but attack? I don't hear anything from him that makes me feel hopful for the future. And he is rude. I just heard him remarking about Obama measuring for drapes. Hell! Obama and his wife would be content with what is there now. It be Cindy and John who would have to have all new and fancy probably made out of gold. Remember Michele shops at Walmart. bet Cindy wouldn't even step into a Walmart.

people please wake up! lets take back our beloved country! the time for ignorance and bigotry is over! just listen to the 2 candidates speeches today and the choice is very clear. mccain offers no solutions for the problems with our economy, and is continueing to tell lie after lie. did you hear the lie he told that obama wants to take away our right to have secret ballots when we vote?? where does he get this stuff? obama offers clear and thoughtful plans to help the average american. listen to what this man has to say! open your minds! it baffels me that anyone could consider voting for mccain/palin. how can anyone want a person like sarah palin a heart beat away from the presidency!? despite what she has been saying she was found to abuse her powers as govenor. the media refuses to also talk about her and todds connections to the alaskan independence party. these people want to rip a star off of our beloved flag people! read some of the statements by the founder of AIP! hes more of a modern day terrorist that bill ayers! the crap he pulled was 20 years ago when obama was 8! why can the media talk about the palins connections to AIP? check the facts people and you will see that that the ayers/obama smear is flamingly undeniably false! palins connections to AIP is true. theres a video of her adressing AIPs convention! im begging you my fellow americans, wake up!! demand the truth! put aside your bigotry and do whats right for this country! vote for obama/biden! lets make this country great again!! McCain's camp is re-booting and starting again and this time will be totally honest and frank with the American People.

That's a GREAT IDEA – way to lose an election to the better & steadier Leader.

Fade Away McSame...

BDL   October 13th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

No one's going to win this election in the end. Regardless of the result of the election, the American people have been bitterly divided by their candidates to the point of physical intimidation and violence. I see it on my campus: McCain supporters getting stared down while boldly and proudly wearing their party on the front of their shirt, and Obama supporters being called "fools" to their face in the midst of what should be civilized debate

I pray for the well-being of my country and for the unity it once had. That's more important to me than voting based on who my professors or my parents or my peers tell me to vote for.

McCain looks too unsure. Obama seems too confidant. Rabid supporters on both sides have said downright scary things, and rabid opponents have brought us to the basest of levels.

I'm seriously worried for our country.

Tina   October 13th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Joe you are the best! What you see is what you get and I appreciate that!

sandee in Portland   October 13th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Rollins, one of the Republican strategists, said one of the reasons McCain's campaign is run so schizophrenically is because he has lobbyists running it.

@bob...I totally agree with you regarding the two party system. We either need term limits on both congress and the senate so they can't make being a politician a career or we all need to change our registration to independent. I am a lifelong republican that will change my affiliation to Independent after this election. Maybe if we all did that, the two parties would finally get an idea as to the fact that the majority of voters don't vote straight party lines, but made independent choices based on the person, their policies, their ideas, their intelligence (lol, that leaves McCain out) and how we perceive they would handle the affairs of our country.

Republican family against McCain   October 13th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

McCain and Palin are simply unqualified in every way to run our beloved country. The hate-mongering they encourage is down right scary. Our Republican family and many other Republican families we know are jumping ship and voting for Obama...it's the honorable thing to do for our country. We really don't know what McCain was thinking when he picked Palin, even hockey fans boo her at NHL games.

McCain is going to turn things around? I will believe it when I see it. Maybe he will stop the personal attacks and the lies. Maybe he will start acting with dignity, honesty, and integrity. I think McCain used to know those words but he sure has not shown them in the past few months. I actually used to admire him. Now I feel that he is just a pathetic old man who has fallen from grace. Vote for him? I don't think so. His rallies lately have been demagogy and lies so like fascists and those enthralled with the trappings of power. We need a leader who can unite the country now one who will further divide us. We need healing as a nation not the illness of power.

I've already cast my vote for Obama. It felt very good, too! I know my vote was for the man best suited for the job and most likely to represent the average American.

If I owned a huge company, or was completely out of my mind, I would have voted for McCain.

Lisa East   October 13th, 2008 2:30 pm ET

The Republican Party is currently trying to link Obama to terrorists. What I don't understand is why no one is bringing up the Bush family's connection to the bin Ladin family and Saudia Arabia. That is like the pot calling the kettle black!

Cheryl   October 13th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

If the McCain campaign gave me a dollar for every time they told a lie in this campaign, I could retire very well off.

Boomer   October 13th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

McCain thinks of everything in a militaristic way. That's why he attacks and attacks and attacks. He shows bad judgement all the time: his pick of Palin, his campaign suspension, and his inciting his mobs to near violence. Sounds a lot like Bush, actually. It is really time for a change. Obama is the man.

Tony   October 13th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

However, I'm much more troubled by his apparent lack of diplomatic skills with other countries, though. In the first McCain/Obama debate, I heard McCain threaten no fewer than 5 other countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, and Russia. He scares me.

Daniel   October 13th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

The McCain/Palin ticket is funnier than Saturday Night Live these days.

First it was Bill Ayers. The people, having already acquitted Obama in the court of public opinion in regards to Ayers, gave a resounding "we don't care." Next they'll try to claim that Obama hates kittens and supplied the dogs for Michael Vick's dogfighting operation.

This all goes back to something Mahatma Gandhi once said: "First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win." Obama has taken the high ground at every turn, and if you need any clarification as to how these two men would run this country, just look at the way they've run their campaigns lately.

Nobody's falling for your hateful tactics, John. You backed yourself into a corner when you chose Sarah Failin', and now you are paying the price.

STOP FIGHTING ONE ANOTHER!   October 13th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

John McCain,

I am personality tired of fighting other Americans over who's more American. I would rather WORK TOGETHER to make America a better place for our children, don't you?

If so then it's time for you to serve your country and step aside.

America is NOT your military brigade. If you can't get over your PTSD and realize you are no longer in a foxhole then you are just not fit for the office of the Presidency, but you're not fit for the Senate.

Grow up McCain and get over it. You can't 'win' in Iraq to make up for Vietnam.

Bill W - PA   October 13th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Right, all McCain does is attack, attack, attack. He attacks Obama at every opportunity, while offering no ideas or solutions of his own. I'm much more troubled by his apparent lack of diplomatic ability with other countries, though. In the first McCain/Obama debate, I heard McCain threaten to attack no fewer than 5 other countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, and Russia. I think McCain still has some issues from having been a POW. He scares me. Where does he think we will get troops to fight 6 wars?

In the first McCain/Obama debate, I heard McCain threaten to attack no fewer than 5 other countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, and Russia. That is all McCain knows how to do is attack. I see him CNN right now talking about the things he plans to do but has not told us how he plans to pay for it. A good portion of any of it could be paid by coming out of Iraq. We don't want to hear anything about picking drapes for the White House. MY FRIENDS!

Chas in Iowa   October 13th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

If there are any McSame supporters left have them answer this question.
Are you ready to reinstate the draft?
The way this guy talks about bombing Iran and going after the new Soviet Union he's gonna need a lot more soldiers to do his dirty work. And with the hundred year war in Iraq the only way to raise enough combat troops to carry on.

nelson   October 13th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

I wonder just what is mcsame's plan for today???? It seems to change on a daily basis. They remind me of the (3) stooges

with their daily attacks... as to his "war hero" status there are a
lot of people who think otherwise especially those who were with
him.. rolling stones article is a repeat of the story that a few say really happened!

What is the difference between Bidens attacks on McCain and Palin's attacks on Obama???

Both candidates are attacking equally.

Shari, NY   October 13th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

McCain's whipping plan is akin to that of a school teacher from the Roaring 20s. America, is this the mentality you are looking for in a leader? If so, it won't work in this day and age.

Bob Bencivenga   October 13th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Biden would not have to come up with a bad idea , he could always plagirize it for convenience and then correctly disclaim it as someone else's.

deb in Colo   October 13th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

I can't decide if McCain can't control his campaign – and if that's the case – why would we think he can control the country & his appointed government officials.

OR

If he's being two-faced – saying one thing while his campaign (namely Palin) purposely goes in a different direction. We don't need more of that. We've had 8 years of BUSH "TRUTHs".

Dal CA   October 13th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

Choose well my friends.. talk talk but no real solutions from the dude who said he has experience. All the talk and no solution from the dude who has scars to prove it. He has a plan but he does not share those plans.
I have a plan I have aplan is all that Mccain talks about.
Why not share that plan with us who need to look at what you will do for us.

Shari, NY   October 13th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

McCain is even planning corporal punishment on Sen. Obama, like a school teacher from the Roaring 20s. America, is this the mentality you are looking for in a leader? If so, it won't work in this day and age.

OBAMA / BIDEN '08!!!

A TRUE PATRIOT   October 13th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

The McCain campain is rediculous. They offer no real solutions to change the state of the US economy. The only card they can play is to pander to fear, i.e. Palin's speach about the good guys vs. the bad guys. This is getting out of hand, I once was comfortable with the prospect of having McCain in the White House, but since Palin has re-ignited the culture war I am truly disgusted.

Yes, Ayers is a unrepentant terrorist, but commited attrocities as a result of America's Imperialist ambitions. The invasion of Vietnam and the US backed coup of the democratically elected president of Chile prompted Ayers and the Weather Underground to attack to target the American Government. The true patriot will look past the rhetoric and realize the horrible foreign policy decisions we have made.

Obama's the real person to shake up Washington and turn it on its head. The possibility of a fillabuster proof majority in the Senate and a Democrat president will do this.

It seems that McCain just keeps jumping around in what he's doing and what he's talking about. He's not really saying anything other than that he's a maverick and he'll do something about all of this. But that something would be ... ? The McCain campaign has been inciting hatred and fear. That backfired, so now they're being "nicer". (But did you see the expressions on Cindy McCain's and Palin's faces when they were in the thick of it? Very scary.) Now they're trying to copy Obama and say that they're going to come out with some definitive plans. Huh ... Obama has had some pretty good documentation on what he plans to do for some time now. It wouldn't surprise me if McCain follows on the heels of Obama's speech today and tries to piggy-back and say it was their idea and Obama stole it. I really hope that McCain and Palin lose by a landslide to demonstrate to the rest of the world that we Americans are not crazy and we can recognize a poor choice when we see it, and we don't reward such tasteless and misleading behavior that the McCain campaign has been dishing up for the last several weeks. Obama is the best option to restore our country – our economy, the way we are viewed by the rest of the world, our health care, our military strength, our ability to guide by demonstration, and the ability to live the American dream where anyone can make it – not just the ones who have profited so unfairly under Bush.

Go Biden. Go Obama. I want to be proud of my country again.

David   October 13th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Although I've already heard Biden speak 2 or 3 times before, today I gained some more insight concerning this man and why Obama chose him.

ANYONE who tells me that Palin is ready to be President of the US and can negotiate with the leaders of middle-eastern or Communist countries carries the same insight as the narrow & short-sighted people that voted for "Dub-ya".

The primary things I want my President to do is to protect our dollar, our respect abroad, and our borders.

And by the way, has Bush protected any of these?

I honestly believe he has NO IDEA how foolish his campaign has been run??? And my goodness, his advisors–they are a JOKE! They really think they can pull the wool over the eyes of the American people! I promise you, envision a switch-off; you can use his campaign workers and some snobbish, confused high school students interchangably and the campaign would STILL be run the same.

Paul Krugman, an Obama advisor , just won the Nobel Prize for Economics. I'm thinking Obama might have someone actually qualified as his Secretary of the Treasury such as Krugman instead of Wall Street's favorite son, Paulson. I don't think Krugman would advise Obama to follow Hoover's path.

Annie, Atlanta   October 13th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Watching the McCain/Palin campaign last week scared the hell out of me. I'm afraid someone is going to get hurt because of what they (mostly she) unleashed. These are not the kind of people we want in our White House EVER. They are causing a bigger division between us than Bush; something I never thought possible. That's not Country First.

John   October 13th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Condi Rice whould be a great VP, as would Colin Powell. I am glad that did not pick them. Perhaps they were not interested.

I was going to vote for Obama, but I really think he is moving in the wrong direction. Now I think McCain has my vote.

If McCain is getting your vote, then you haven't been paying attention. McCain is the one who stands for moving this country the wrong way – the same directions it's been going during four years of the Bush Misadministration.

Cindy   October 13th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Joe, keep up the great work! Your speech in Scranton was outstanding.

Yes, and Biden and Obama's is Retreat, Retreat, Retreat.

Economic plan. Simple. Government controlled. Yea, that'll get the economy going.

NOT!

Kellybelly   October 13th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Biden is right. McCain has no plan! If you go back over last week's debate, most of it comprised of Obama's plan and McCain's attack on Obama's plan. That's it!

Independent Dave, Iowa   October 13th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

The McCain campaign is without a clear course, would an administration be any different? Can we afford to take the chance?

Enlightened Voter   October 13th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Remember mccain and palin that what goes around comes around. All your lies, hate and filth you are spewing against Barack Obama will come back to you in some form. It's called Karma baby!

Ann from MD   October 13th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Praetorian, Fort Myers – Nice try! Over 200,000 supporters showed up at Obama's rally in Germany. And like most Americans, most other countries are wondering why McCain is even still in this race.

Go get 'em, Joe! It's nice to see a relatively clean campaign as opposed to the McCain/Palin ticket, who stoop so low as to promote hate, lies and smear tactics to get ahead in the race. America is better than that, and having those two clowns running for office is a disgrace to the country. And do we really want Sarah Palin anywhere near the White House when it's been proven that she has in fact abused her power as governor? Come on.

Obama/Biden 2008

Hey Joe, you make it up as you go along. FLIP FLOP. and Obama is just the same rhetoric "8 Years". Obama couldn't govern Illinois, and he is not qualified to govern America. The Polls are a changing, I see sweat beading on the Demwitts foreheads...LOL.

Treason is not Heroic   October 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Please CNN, point out the fact that McCain committed treason as a POW.

His intentions when joining may have been admirable. But we can not let the word "Hero" be so blatantly abused. People are applying it to him when he did not do anything of the sort that a hero would do. He was captured and taken prisoner. That's not Heroic, that's simply bad luck or incompetence.

A hero would have REFUSED to make propoganda films for the enemy and would have REFUSED to divulge information beyond their name, rank and branch. We must ensure that George Washington and Benedict Arnold do not BOTH get to be called a hero.

It's an injustice to the great men and women who did go above and beyond to rightfully deserve the title "Hero"! McCain sold his country out, for what ever reasons. Do I necessarily blame him? No, but I will not call him a hero because of it. Hero's don't turn on their country like McCain did!

TAINOPOWER   October 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

The obama plan will turn 40% or more of this country to a welfare system and keep using my tax money to control the people.

California Voter   October 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

And your speech Joe what is that?

Mohammed Ajmal   October 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Republican tactic or strategy is to win at all cost. I think Americans are starting to see through them and are turned off this time. This time they dont want to have an incompetent president they can have a beer with.

That's all they have left. It may work at certain times, but not this time. Some people may have been fooled in the previous elections, but not this time. Anyone who at this time votes against their economic interest deserves whatever they get in return.

Scott L   October 13th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Obama was a community organizer for crying out loud. What does he know about economics?

Fix the Chicago Public School system. It has the LARGEST school budget in the nation and it is the WORST school system. Roofs crumbling over kids heads.

He has done NOTHING for those kids. I worked at CPS so I should know how bad it is there.

Tired of W, OH   October 13th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Compare Biden to Palin. Biden believes the office of the vice president is a part of the executive branch and has limited power. Palin believes, like Cheney, that the vice president is above the law and craves expanded power. She believes that she has been completely exonerated in the Troopergate scandal because she didn't do anything technically illegal (ethics mean nothing, right?). Sound like anyone else we know. I'll give you a hint....His middle initial is "W".

mary, colorado springs co   October 13th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

McCain's judgment is already in question when he chose Palin to be his running mate. "Nuff said.

Oregon calling   October 13th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

I have written since the beginning of this election process & my support has always been for Obama.

One thing that I have never brought up is my military past. I was an enlisted person and let me say that there is a difference between being enlisted & in being an officer. McCain has never known what it feels like to be an "average" person.

On Palin, she got to go to college right after high school. It was 20 years after I graduated that I decided that it was my only hope after being downsized from corporate America 4 times in the last 12 years. I am the 1st in my family to attempt this endeavor and I hold a 3.00 gpa (not bad but could have been better).

All that I ask is that America vote for the betterment of our people and not some party line. Are you better than you were 8 years ago? I am not but I am getting educated!!!!

Peace Obama/Biden 08

deb   October 13th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

The drill baby comment–I can't believe some actually think we will ONLY drill if we elect McCain-we will drill no matter who we elect because Americans love to speed down the highways in huge vehicles–among other fuel consuming realities. NO matter who wins the people could use some common sense. Why does an 18 year old college girl need to drive a Hummer. SPOILED & foolish.

Adriana Birmingham, AL   October 13th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Another strategy change by McCain campaign? Can you imagine if McCain ran the country as schizophrenically as he runs the campaign? We will all have ulcers. I prefer calm and stable.

Grant in Canada   October 13th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

This like a giant game of rock-paper-scissors. Yet every time Obama and McCain do the "1-2-3 go" the result always seems to come out as "fear smothers hope."

Please....vote for hope this time.

McCain has NOTHING else.

He and Palin will spend the next three weeks attacking, lying, distorting and accusing.

There is little else left for him. If he comes off in Wednesday evening's debate as too angry, hostile, accusatory then he will lose. If he performs like he did in teh last two he will lose.

McCain has NOTHING LEFT!

mary, colorado springs co   October 13th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

McCain is still fightiing dirty and lying about Obama and his plans. He is running scared and using any underhanded method he can to tear Obama down and build himself up. Palin is only digging both of them deeper with her vicious attacks with more lies and unfounded insinuations. Those two are losing ground and grasping at anything they think will help them. Their high school head games are childish and producing nothing but disgust, when they should be tellling what their plans are for the country, should they win the White House.

If they are this way now, how would they treat the other countries who might disagree with them? Their ability at employing tact is at most questionable.

Obama and Biden are by far the better choice.

Obama–for positive change.

Positively wrong changes.

Putin likes him, Ahmandinijab likes him...other allies like: Britain, Germany, France–are not as sure about him.

Does this tell us anything?

Dave   October 13th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Barack Obama has PLANS. John McCain has only TACTICS.

America is ready for leadership with well-laid plans, and a strategy to implement them. That team is Obama/Biden.

McCain/Palin are only offering more Bush politics of division.

joyce   October 13th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Had McCain considered looking back at how the great depression was resolved? It is all about politics in the McCain camp. So what if the Obama camp took the time to study what the administration then had done to get out of the mess. It's worth looking into.
Perhaps we can see something that would help ease this burden.

I like the open mindedness of the Obama camp. I like the fact that they are turning every possible stone to find a solution. Compare that with McCain's camp whose main focus is to make sure people don't vote for Obama period.

Richard   October 13th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

McCain says today is the start of a "turnaround". Apparently the plan is to start telling the truth.

Shawn - Ga   October 13th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Kate Fergus   October 13th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

McCain is only about scare tactics. He is taking a page right out of the Karl Rove 'steps to smear the other candidate' book. How petty. It shows a complete lack of intelligence and character.

Amy, good point, unless they have a spy in the campaign, they couldn't know what Obama was going to say yet.

John in Ohio   October 13th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I really think the McCain campaign is absolutely incapable of putting out any kind of coherent consistent plan for solving the issues we currently. face.

Disagree? Then prove it, show me the plan.

Is McCain serious?   October 13th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Big Joe

I just said the same time. I never in my entire life heard a Presidential candidate tell the American people to fight one another like McCain.

If he's still trying to win one for Nixon by converting America into a Military state he will lose..... oh my bad, he's losing already.

NEXT!

Polly   October 13th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Fight for America! Vote McCain/Palin November 4!

Sweetie   October 13th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

How about some truth for a change!

I took the time to read over what the Obama Camp has in mind, some might find it a good plan the problem is that he won't be able to deliver it because of the fix we are in.

His plan will bring in votes, but it is an empty promise, similar to one he made to the folks in Ill, he didn't deliver on!

Empty words, Empty promises, Empty change!

Vote for the folks who will get the economy going again without making empty promises and will find out who caused this mess and expose them so that it won't happen again!

McCain/Palin-08

tigerakabj   October 13th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

That's right Joe. All McCain and Palin want to do is trash talk about Obama. Nothing to hear from them about us, the American people. McCain needs to alert Palin that abortion is not going to solve this global economic crisis. But I guess she has her own agenda so....

Obama/Biden 8/12.

Spencer/Commonwealth of Virginia   October 13th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

It couldn’t be clearer to me what’s going on here. John McCain wants to attack Barack Obama, and Barack Obama wants to [attack] the problems that face America today,”

This is clearly true. Sen. Obama presented his solution for this economic mess while McCain is trying to reinvent his negative campaign. If he would've kept the negativity out of his campaign in the first place, he can actually start talking about the issues. He is unstable to LEAD.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Change I Can Believe In

James   October 13th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

He and Palin are spending more than half their time talking about Obama. The rest of the time, they just purport to be mavericks. That leaves little to explain what their plan is. Is that because they have none?

Abby   October 13th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Lol…They fought back fought back against allegations that they were on the attack by going on the attack. Not very smart, those McCain./Palin strategists.

Obama-Biden. Level headed, knowledgeable leadership.

Praying to God for an Obama Victory   October 13th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

The economic policies of George Bush and Jonn McCain have spurred one of the worst economic collapses in American history. To continue those policies are insane.

President Obama and V.P.Biden, the country and the world are awaiting the victory of positive change. We know it's going to take some time to fix the major problems that all of the republicans have messed up. Take your time and don't worry about the lies that are being put out by the republicans. Joe Biden is correct –
I believe that all McCain has left is attacks of the most disgraceful nature. McCain and Palin are shameful, and both should be kicked out of office.
I am ashamed of the republican party – and I've been a lifelong member.
This year I am voting Democratic for the first time in my life.
