Biden said some of what he has seen at McCain events is 'scary stuff.'

(CNN) — Joe Biden said Monday some of the reactions he has seen at recent McCain campaign rallies are downright “scary,” and said the Republican presidential ticket should be careful not to encourage "fringe people."

But in the interview with ABC News, Biden added he does not worry the McCain-Palin rallies could lead to violence as long as John McCain and Sarah Palin adequately control their supporters.

"I'm no more concerned about it, as long as … John pushes it back in a box and Governor Palin pushes it back in a box, because what you don't want to do is encourage — I don't think they intentionally do it — encourage people who really are fringe people," Biden said in the interview. He also said that what he saw at the rallies was "really off the wall" and "scary stuff."

Earlier: Biden: McCain’s speech is ‘attack, attack, attack, attack’

Biden also took aim at recent comments from Virginia’s Republican Party chairman that compared Obama to 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden. The chairman, Jeffrey Frederick said Obama and bin Laden "both have friends that bombed the Pentagon" — a reference to Obama's connection to 1960's radical Bill Ayers.

"I don't believe it … I can't believe it," Biden said of those comments. "I'm surprised John McCain hasn't gone down and whacked the guy with his fist. I mean, I don't think there's a prejudiced bone in John McCain's body. But that kind of stuff is really off the wall. I refuse to let myself believe John McCain has anything to do with any of that.”

Also, Nancy from FL you are ignorant and are the very reason McCain is having the issues that he is with his supporters at Rallies. Open a book and educate yourself you bigot. OBAMA IS NOT ARABIC he is half white half black and he is a Christian who was born in Hawaii not Kenya like some people seem to suggest now….Also, do you ignorant people think that our Government is that stupid that if he weren't a US citizen they wouldn't know? McCain makes the snowballs. Palin fires them!

Steve   October 13th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

The fact that McCain first spewed innuendo and hate at his rallies, and then did little to shut down the psychos who spoke up in response shows just how sick the man really is. Finally, when his numbers reflected the outrage of Americans who heard what was going on by dropping through the floor, McCain started backpedaling. it wasn't because he was outraged by the nastiness. It was because he saw his tactics backfiring. He should be ashamed of himself. I don't blame Palin. She's too stupid to realize what she's doing. There are village idiots who look at her with sympathy. They know an idiot when they see one.

I agree with Biden. This is very scary. What is happening to the Republic Party?? Do they need to reach out to extremist to win? At at what cost. This is so hurtful and extremely disappointing. I can't believe McCain can't stop this type of talk…and if he can't then can he control the what goes on in the White House. Again, I am so hurt by the McCain/Palin ticket.

Mrs. Texas Teacher   October 13th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

As I have said before….. McCain is doing a little two step…. side step…. D.C. Shuffle…..

It didn't work when I first said it, and it is not working now…. it's a catchy tune, but you can't hum it…. and he and Palin are the only ones who can dance to it……

Pres. Nixon and G. Gordon Liddy, et al, abused their power. Is there a pattern being uncovered here by McCain's close relationship (ongoing) with G. Gordon Liddy? And his super friendly interview on his talk show last November? Just asking ——-

littl123   October 13th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Yes, there are some people that unfortunately go off the deep end — you will find those regardless of the political party.

But, why can't people see that making everything a racial issue is what causes this divisiveness.

Even those people that are squarely in the Obama camp must see the ridiculousness of blaming any criticism of Obama on racism.

And comments like those of Lewis are why off base. It is downright careless to be making such accusations — not to mention untruthful.

Kate   October 13th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

McCain had to get into bed with the Fundies that have hijacked his party in order to get the nomination. Now he is seeing, close up and personal, just how disturbed these people really are.

McCain's ties to G. Gordon Liddy are scary! That is a man who conspired to blow up buildings, kidnapped innocent people and was convicted and sent to prison for his illegal activities. Yet McCain considers him a close friend. That is risky, unsound judgment that belongs nowhere near the White House.

Now it is “FIGHT”!

McCain uses “words” like he was running for High School President.

Quite frankly he really is INSULTING the American people

We will “FIGHT” the Republicans
We will “FIGHT” the Democrats
We will “FIGHT” the Media
We will “FIGHT” Russia
We will “FIGHT” wall street
We will “FIGHT” Iran
We will “FIGHT” the economy

I think you wanted your hateful comment to say we don't want a Muslim running our country, not an Arab, unless you are reading different lies then are out there.

First, think for yourself for a change (I know its hard)

Second, what would be wrong with a Muslim as a President? Do you think all Muslims are terrorists? If so, you REALLY need to get out a bit. The majority of Muslims don't believe in killing and it's a peaceful religion. Its just like saying all whites are terrorists because Timothy McVeigh bombed a government building. Kinda stupid huh?

Third, Barack is not Muslim, he is Christian.

Fourth, turn off Fox for a night and read a book, it might do you some good. (And no, a book by Hannity, Oreilly, and the like doesn't count)

Ms M L Beckham   October 13th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

There were some frightening things said at these rallies! I was glad to see that McCain realized what was going on and informed people at the rallies that (regarding Obama) they shouldn't be scared, and corrected negative information that has been circulating on the web (about Obama) for many months. The major thing is that people still think Obama is a Muslim; of course, he's not. If people don't want to believe McCain, their own candidate, then there isn't much hope for them!

Colin   October 13th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

I don't know if McCain really supports the ideas and comments that the people that are going to his rallies are stating, but at the same time I really don't think he cares enough to stop them. To McCain it's a guaranteed vote from the racists, insanely religious, and ignorant people of America. So why deny their comments or admit that his supporters are saying and doing disgusting things when he is leaning on them to WIN the election because all he cares about is WINNING not about what's best for our country. If McCain really cared he would of never stated all these false accusations about Obama and would have been saying what his plans are to turn the country around….the fact is McCain has no plan. So since there is no difference between him and Bush when it comes to the big political issues why not guarantee yourself the votes of the ignorant and hope they put enough fear in the other Americans that it will change their mind.

Pat   October 13th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

The things that Palin is saying are incredibly divisive. I'm amazed that McCain/Palin still contend that they can reach out to both sides of the aisle, etc. Palin, especially, is stooping to name-calling and other low tactics, because she's meaner than she is smart, and has nothing to offer regarding policies.

Interesting news from the AP about McCain now attacking Bush's economic policies more forcefully. A quote from the article:

"The repudiation of the Republican incumbent's economic policies came as McCain has struggled to find a message that would reverse his sagging poll results nationally and in some battleground states."

As we are introduced to more proposals from the 2 candidates this week about the economy, remember that McCain's proposals are not coming from any well-thought-out plan he has. It is just another attempt of his to find SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that will generate traction with the voters.

In his heart, he is still a deregulator and a trickle-down advocate.

I think that John McCain should admit that he incited hatred towards Obama, starting when Palin said Obama was paling around with terrorist, and using his middle name, I observed someone in one of his rally's scream out a hate remark and McCain did not tell him to stop this went on for days until he finally said Obama is a good man we just happen do disagree. I don't believe he corrected them until John Lewis make the remark about these statements being racial. I personally am grateful that one of our African American Leaders spoke out.
I agree 100% with Dana on CNN when she said the tone for a campaign starts at the top. And John McCain should take responsibility for his actions. I believe that Palin has been told what to say from the beginning. When everyone was saying she is doing the job of a VP Candidate and attacking the opponent she was not talking about "The Issues", it was all about terrorist. How much of that can America Take? In the Famous Words of Martin Luther King, Jr. I look Forwarded to living in a country when people are judged by the “Content of their Character and not by the color of Their Skin”. I hope and pray that they both have Good Character, because America does need to Change from the Top Down. I was in Canada the other day and the Car that picked us up from the Airport was fueled with Propane and they had Bill Board ads for 2009 VW diesel Vehicles, they also had very clean and available recycle containers everywhere for bottles, plastic, papers etc. I believe it is time to share the wealth and use other fuels. Have a Blessed Day.

Joe, I hate to say it buddy but this is the true John McCain. MLK said that the measure of a man is not in times of comfort, but in times of controversy (crisis). What you are seeing Joe is the real McCain, through and through. Desperate, angry, vengeful, hypocritical, waffling, bad-judgment having, liar. That image "maverick" image you allude to of John circa 2000 is media-constructed, nothing more.

There never was an honorable John McCain. From his treatment of his first wife, to Keating 5, to numerous reports of his collegues about his raging temper, to his lying currently on the campaign trail. So Joe, I suggest you take another look at your friend and "war hero" John McCain.

Obama/Biden 2008/2012.

Heather   October 13th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Rather hypocritical that McCain gets pissed off when the emotions prevalent at his rallies are compared to the hatred seen at rallies held by Wallace, yet he says nothing when his opponent is compared to someone who helped killed three thousand Americans.

Meg Madison, Cary North Carolina   October 13th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

What McCain has allowed to happen is criminal. The fact that he seems to be trying to tone things down is a farce, as his surrogates continue to lie, smear and incite fear and hatred. IT'S YOUR CAMPAIGN, MCCAIN…WHY DON'T YOU PUT A STOP TO IT RATHER THAN TRY AND HAVE IT BOTH WAYS? Maybe it's how you really feel. Enjoy the end of your career, your tainted legacy and the pride it must bring you to know that John Lewis is RIGHT about you.

Loran   October 13th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

McCain knew things were getting out of hand, that why he reprimanded the old white haired lady. Some of these people were looking for a reason and Sarah Palin were inciting it . She is the scary one and I think McCain regrets his choice but he can't do anything about it. Why isn't anyone talking more about the Troopergate thing. She abused the power of her office and worse she let her husband do it. Can you see these people in the white house. God help us all if that happens. And they are suppose to be Christians. What bible are they reading?

Joseph   October 13th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

It's un American for the democrats to wish, desire or hope for economic problems and failure in war just for political again, it's show how low they are about the thinks they want for America just for polical gains.

Jeanne H.   October 13th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

You only have to watch Palin at the rallies to know that she is bent on inciting the crowds. Using words like "palling around with terrorists" is the same as encouraging people to think of Obama as terrorists. Come on Joe, I don't think you are that naive. I think McCain and Palin deserve to be put back in their place. Somebody please remind people that McCain palled around (even had family vacations) with a convicted felon who is now behind bars, and Palin palled around with people who don't think much of the U.S. and who want to secede from the US. These 2 are just hypocrits and they are not ashamed to show it in public.

don't vote for hate   October 13th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

What is even more scary is that the candidates do next to nothing to tone down the hate to the point of appearing to condone and endorse violence. McCain tried for a day but gave up on it as soon as he was booed. Palin hasn't even tried.

And, McCain — were are STILL WAITING for you to address your runningmate's being found to have abused her power as governor and violated states ethics law by that unanimous bipartisan commission of 2/3 Republicans- 1/3 Democrats. Biden has masterminded himself into a position where he is pretty much untouchable.

By showing his extreme admiration to John McCain and respect for what he stands for over the past 100 years or so Johnny has been alive, Biden is allowing himself to differientiate between the John McCain he has always known and the bad policies that will ruin our country.

He has made himself into a subject matter expert on his opponent. And he actually looks like he is sad and reluctant to point out McCains flaws.

If I was John McCain I would be commending Biden for playing the chess game like a master-mind. This is close to being the same old politics- because it is trickery. But it is positive, I would rather have positive tricks than the alternative :)

Amy   October 13th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

I don’t understand why anyone would willingly spark such hate and then watch it become the wild fire it has. If they don’t put a stop to this hate, someone, maybe even them, will get hurt. I really hope for the safety of themselves and us, that they move off the hate and back to the issues.

*I can tell you know that anyone of any intelligence at all could care less if Obama knew Bill Ayers - really, we just don’t care. And, the crazies that do actually care, are far outnumbered by those who don’t.

Let’s get back to what’s important and put the crazies back in their boxes!

IGNORANCE is bliss, so they say… It's awful that people are afraid of others' races and religions when there is no need.

McCain/Palin STARTED this HATE speech, and now they have the NERVE to pretend like they had NOTHING to do with it. McCain has proven to be ERRATIC and UNSTABLE…. WORSE THAN BUSH

Sara against Sarah   October 13th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

For all those repugs out there:

So when Palin references Obama to ties to terrorists, that's not creating hatred? Palin is encouraging and promoting hatred among American citizens and McSenile isn't stopping it. Someone's going to get hurt if this ticket doesn't stop this little game they are playing.

Obama Biden '08 & '12

Lynette   October 13th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

McCain should stop these people, the Klan has no business voting in an election. We need America to focus and vote not based on hate and bigotry but based on respect and the good of the nation ALL people in our nation, not just the few, but the many. The world needs strong leadership, we cannot talk to the rest of the world if we hate our own citizens.

Doug   October 13th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Hmmmm. What about all these people in the past 8 years that have called Bush every name in the book, ran ads comparing him to Hitler, etc….you certainly didn't see the Democrats coming out against the Owner of the Democratic party, errrr….George Soros, for that one. I'm not condoning what some might say, but there are some on each side that will say anything. The Democrats only find it offensive when it's about them.

I look younger!   October 13th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

I think Biden's Botox is scary.

Fawn   October 13th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

I'm still amazed Obama was asked to apologise for an intelligent response the atmosphere of fear and hate McCain / Palin have created at their gatherings!

Anonymous   October 13th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

When you use scare tactics in your campaign you get "fringe people" support. This is all back lash from preying on people's fears. The new McCain/ Palin slogan "Be afraid. Be very afraid."

Billy   October 13th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

McCain has sold his soul for the chance to become president. Now he has also sold his honor and his legacy by encouraging the worst of the republican party to run wild.

Matt   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

People shouting "yes we can" isn't scary. People getting school kids to sing songs praising Barack Obama isn't scary. Kids doing militant marches while praising Barack Obama isn't scary. Calling a elected official "the One" isn't scary. Making your own presidential seals isn't scary. Having paintings of yourself with a halo around your head isn't scary.

dee   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Biden is right. McCain and Palin should not stand for a word of this. They should shut down any even they are at where such racist and threatening language is used by members of the audience. In the end, it makes them look bad. You'd think they had figured that out.

Meridith   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

It's not John McCain leading these people on. It's his hockey mom vice president, Sara Palin leading these people to this hatred. Just like she did her staff in Alaska. Then fired the ones who wouldn't follow her lead.

HouseDiva   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

I AM BEYOND TIRED OF MCCAIN'S NEGATIVE ADS.

I WISH HE WOULD JUST GO AWAY, AND TAKE HIS RETARDED PIT BULL WITH HIM.

Rodger   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

McCain finally came out in Davenport Iowa as the old, non prejudiced John McCain. He should have his campaign fire Jeffrey Frederick, and personally disavow what he said. That is what the oldJohn McCain would have done….I miss the old John McCain, he will probably lose this electtion…he can not lose his honor too!!!

Joseph, Los Angeles   October 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Yes Joe, keep talking about it, less we forget. I would be afraid to attend any of those rallies. It just doesn't feel like the America I came to know and love being in the company of such hatred. We cannot go back there.

JimS.   October 13th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

You can't really blame McCain that many of his supporters are cretins.

His response to the woman who started off calling Obama an Arab was just right, and decisive. I'd like to see a similar level of restraint from Caribou Barbie.

anne   October 13th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Joe should stop saying McCain is a good guy at heart. He isn't. We've all had to see what a horrible guy McCain is when it gets right down to it. Just his pick of a totally wackjob VP is bad enough without all of McCain's evil lies that change daily.

I'm glad Obama picked Joe Biden. A president and a VP I can respect? That will be a huge change in the white house!!!

Fawn   October 13th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Linda   October 13th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Biff…Did you live in the South in the 60's? Lewis explained his comments. They were grounded in historical context.

Palin has done nothing to explain hers. In fact, she is only feeding the anger and hate. Of course, not having any knowledge of events outside of Alaska, she simply does not know what she is doing. Dangerous indeed.

B.E.Lahmon   October 13th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

It would be even more scary if that fear mongering crap actually works for McCain it would really show us just intelligent McCain's supporters are

Tania   October 13th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

It is not going to far to compare the inciting of racist remarks now to similar events in the past. This is textbook 'those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it'. McCain lived through that era, he knows how dangerous it can be, and if he doesn't get Palin under control and get her to stop comparing Obama to the terrorists, history will no doubt repeat itself.

He knows better, and he needs to make sure that this ignorant woman truly understands the danger of hate speech before she goes out on the stage and incites something they won't be able to simply 'publicly condemn'.

Michele, Pittsburgh, PA   October 13th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

If John McCain can't control his campaign, how is he going to run the country. He let the fear mongering get out of control. I was actually leaning towards voting for him until any ideas in the stump speeches by McCain and Palin were replaced with divisive, hate-filled rhetoric.

Neicey in Ohio   October 13th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Thinking back to the post-2000 election "He's not my President" shirts, I only hope that after Obama rides to victory that the angst and nastiness can be put aside. The current polarization of the electorate is truly scary. I look forward to the day that the right's "Fear and Smear" political playbook is finally put to rest forever.

Barack is very scary, if you believe in the American people and not in the government solving all the world's problems.

Barack believes in the Socialist way, and his style of government is better suited for Moscow than D.C. Take this rookie and tell him to take his ideology to Cuba, North Korea or Russia.

America First, not half white blind ambition first.

History sucks if you have to pay for it with huge tax increases and lies.

While I don't believe McCain anticipated the reactions to the rhetoric his campaign, particularly Palin, has most recently employed, he has got to acknowledge that he is indeed creating and empowering an atmosphere that is ugly, divisive and dangerous.

Good old Joe Biden, which John McCain are you alluding to?

Not the win-at- all cost , take the low road to the highest office McCain of recent times or are you alluding to John McCain of 2000?

McCain has twisted and turned so much that we do not know which direction his face is located any more!!

God bless America.

Tom, KS   October 13th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

John Lewis and Joe Biden are right. These people seem to have let reason be replaced with fanaticism. I'm convinced at least 1/3 of everyone voting for McCain are doing it because they are unable to vote for a black man. Pure ignorance!

JD   October 13th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

What is scary is that the least qualified candidate might be elected.

All of us - Democrats, Republicans, and Independents - have a right to be upset at the way race has been used by Obama's supporters.

I believe Lewis is an intelligent person. He has to understand that most of us who are not supporting Obama simply do not believe he is the most qualified, or we disagree with his policies.

We do not care about his race BUT we do not like it used against anyone who opposes him (i.e. Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, John McCain). Those people are not racist - they just all believe that someone else is better qualified for the job!

J1   October 13th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

This is getting insane. Just today, an individual that claims she is campaigning for McCain/Palin in TX tried to convince me that Senator Obama is an "Arab". When I told her she was insance, she said that she would pray for me. WOW!

Robert Wooller Bradford England   October 13th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

McCain and Palin can go all the way down to 10 or 20 per cent against obama for all I care. They have warmongered, scaremongered and frightened people in every way you can on a campaign and they deserve to be annihilated in November. McCain insisted on choosing Sarah palin and look at where it has got him. Behind and still falling in the polls. Moreover, people have had enough of McBush. That is how bad it has got for them and they want change, change that only a brand new administration can bring.

McCains statements are the mark of a desperate man. Read today in the NYT's how McCain shaped his biography based on fictional
characters in literature. The man in general is getting his just desert, he's too brash, acts before he thinks. He's not the geniune article. He's already reached his zenith and its all down hill from here with his ego leading him.

susan   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

It's sad to see the level of underlying racism still in this country. It goes to show you that we haven't fully come out of that dark place.I believe John McCain has acted like Jerry Springer, stadning around watching as horrible words are thrown around and not stopping any of it..Until he was called out about it.This is not the man I want in office..Vote Obama/Biden..The choice has always been a clear one.

Frank   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

I wonder if we will find out eventually that McCain backed away from the hate-mongering because the Secret Service asked him to.

Patricia from Las Vegas   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Ummm, some nut case yells out a threat to a Presidential Candiate and that is scary but Mr. Lewis tells the truth and that is "too far" … dang some people sure have a strange perspective.

I personally think that anyone who shouts out a threat, and yes that is a THREAT, should be treated accordingly, which is to be arrested.

The comment from Mr. Frederick is unforgiveable! To compare Senator Obama to Osama Bin Laden is slander of the highest degree.

TN Lady in OK   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Let's get back on track and figure out where our country is going…the hatred has no place…tell us what you have in mind to pull us out of this economic turmoil and get us back on our feet, making ends meet again instead of having to rob Peter to pay Paul, so to speak. Give our country some hope for the future, and not too far in the future. We need results now!

e.j.mohammed   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

It's horrendous to make this kind of comparison and try to keep the American people living in fear. Especially at this time when the economy is suffering so and the people have enough worries, losing their homes, jobs, securities and investments! Joe Biden is right I can't imagine McCain having any acknowledgment of this chairman's comments! I f he does he should repudiate this then he would look like the old McMcain!
Obama/Biden 08

Frank from Peterborough   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

A lot of this is Obama's fault for making speeches about the issues and policies and giving ideas on how to find solutions to the problems in America.

Even at the last debate he just sat on his stool and listen to John McCain when he was speaking then addressed the issues when John was finished. All the while poor John wandered around the stage while Obama was addressing the audience in a state of confusion looking very disoriented.

In short it's not fair for Obama to show so much stature and look so presidential which of course makes John & Sara look so desperate and out of touch.

It's just not fair I tell ya and this is what is causing the problem I betcha.

CNN TOO TIMID TO REPORT PALIN'S ABUSE OF POWER   October 13th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

For much too long, McCain said nothing as false rumors about Obama spread. The only reason he spoke up at that rally is because he was sharing a mike with that misbegotten woman and had no choice.

I agree with Biden that McCain's not a racist. But he's not above permitting racist sentiment to edge him toward the White House.

Palin is another story. She continues to incite crowds. And it's increasingly difficult to believe that she doesn't have a a few racist tendencies.

Senator Biden, let's not mince words. The McCain campaign spent months sowing seeds of fear and hate. Last week crowds would hear Obama's name and shout out 'terrorist' and to kill him. This is McCain's campaign. Whether or not McCain harbors prejudice is not the issue. He has condoned prejudice and is guilty.

Biden is right–it is within the power of Sarah Palin and John McCain to keep the temperature down at their rallies, or at least direct the crowd's energy toward their candidates and not against Obama.

The problem is the McCain message has been so bankrupt, that all they have left is to try to make people want to vote against Obama by demonizing Obama. But rather than demonize him on policy positions, they've chosen to demonize him on a personal level. And that is very, very dangerous, and it will make it more difficult for Obama to govern effectively.

Cynthia; Bham   October 13th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

John McCain may not have a prejudiced bone in his body but he knows that their are some of there with those kinds of bones and all Palin is doing is stroking those bones to get them roused up with that nonsense.

Wendy   October 13th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Now that Joe Biden has really gotten to be good friends and runningmate with Obama he realizes what a decent and dynamic person Obama is and I percieve that it really hurts him to hear off the wall comments about Senater Obama.

Chipster   October 13th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Palin's influence on McCain's campaign is powerful and ugly. Accusations that Sen. Obama has been "palling around with terrorists" are obvious attempts to incite fear and hatred. McCain can behave as if he's shocked at the vicious tone at his event but he has done nothing to prevent the half-baked Alaskan from continuing to make such outrageous and false remarks. McCain has been a terrible disappointment. His judgment has been incredibly flawed.

White-African(born there) American Military BRAT   October 13th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Carl   October 13th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

What is more scary is that McCain doesn't even acknowledge that it's a problem and he even said that the same things happen at Obama rallies! Is he mad?? Nothing at an Obama rally comes close to what I've been hearing at McCain rallies. It's time McCain takes charge for once.. how in the world does he expect to run a country when he cannot control his own supporters.

Repulican destroy the economy and the environment   October 13th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Please Joe. And what has McCain done in the general election that isn't erratic? He's fostering hate for Obama. He's making people feel scared of Obama. McCain has been feeding them with amo for the last month. Trying to connect Obama to a national terrorist when Obama was only 8 years old. The only thing scary is how different John McCain 2000 and John McCain 2008 is. And then he picks a VP who apparently, her sole duty, is to lie to the American public.

We have already seen McCain briefly try to stop it, and he, the candidate of their choice, the one they supposedly adored, got booed. That speaks volumes right there. I have a feeling even more is going to be crawling out of the woodwork soon. (Hmm, looks like that is happening right here and now in Palins comment: We can't let leftist groups steal this election.)

Joe refuses to believe that his "my old friend johnny" has walked to the dark side and has become McBush as he "out-bushed" all his opponents to win primaries.

Wake up joe, smell coffee, and stop singing "have you seen my old friend johnny".

Please Joe, you are erratic and scary why don't you go back on your bridge to Delaware!!!!!

Papasan in Arizona   October 13th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

These Republican wackos are going to get somebody hurt. I agree with Biden's statements.

Let's get back to the issues and pick us a very good leader, eg., Obama-Biden.

Oh, Joe, Hello! Almost everything YOU say is scary! Why rag on McCain? Why not defend your own record? hmmm? Not much to talk about I guess? Worried you'll put your foot in mouth again?

Why isn't anyone making a big deal about the kook fringe Democrat supporters? Both sides have their extremists and radicals.

McCain may not have said any of it directly, but code words/phrases were there from Palin and on top of it, McCain hasn't dialed down the anger - if anything, we're seeing it ratcheted up.
