Sen. Obama talked about ACORN with reporters in Ohio Tuesday.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama responded Tuesday to the McCain campaign's efforts to link him to embattled community organizing group ACORN.

Watch: Obama on the economy, ACORN

"We've got the best voter registration, turnout, and volunteer operation in politics right and we don't need ACORN's help," Obama said Tuesday in Ohio.

The Illinois senator added that ACORN was not advising his campaign, and echoed campaign advisors who have increasingly accused the GOP of trying to suppress voter turnout as Election Day nears.

"What I want to make sure of, though, is that this is not used as an excuse for the kind of voter suppression tactics that we've seen in the past. Let's make sure everybody is voting, everybody is registered, everybody is doing this is a lawful way," he said.

The Democratic nominee's comments came the same day that his campaign held a conference call with reporters about the McCain campaign's recent focus on voter fraud.

Listen: Plouffe, Bauer on voting issues

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe and general counsel Bob Bauer accused Republicans of trying to intimidate voters and sow the seeds of confusion as the historic presidential election approaches.

"They seem to be setting up a strategy here to make it harder to vote," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe told reporters on a conference call. "To create a situation where voters don't have confidence in the system."

"They are going to try to raise questions. You know, cry out and raise questions about fraud and try and create a smokescreen out there to confuse voters and perhaps to give cover to some of the activities they're going to be undertaking over the next three weeks."

The Obama campaign also took issue with the McCain camp's recent efforts to link Obama to ACORN, whose voter registration efforts have come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks. "We have our own registration effort," the Obama campaign's general counsel Bob Bauer said on the call. "We register our own voters under our own standards and we do so successfully."

Bauer also denied that the campaign ever paid Citizens Services, Inc., an entity affiliated with ACORN, to register voters. "We have never paid ACORN a penny for registration purposes," said Bauer.

The campaign's payments to Citizens Services, Inc. "were for canvassing in some of the larger primary states back in the spring – Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania," Plouffe said. "It was to augment our grassroots organization."

John McCain would be stupid to bring up ACORN at the debates seeing how there are pictures of him being a guest speaker. Also nice touch McCain for hiring a lobbyist that has ties to Saddam, real nice.

Susie in oklahoma   October 14th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Because of what McCain is trying to do, alot of ppl in my town are listening except younger voters and the older generation. That's the funny thing. Which the younger voters are college going and are really for Obama as the future and see McCain just like Bush. The older generation said simply that Obama has the better plans for America and they're sick of the crap put out by McCain and Palin. They only want to hear about the issues at hand rather then slander a man. I asked them if Obama being of mixed race was an issue and they said they have lived a long enough life to not look or be scared at another nationality. Now that's intelligent!!

Lou Dobbs is also entertaining that the Obama camp has ties to ACRON. I think he is a Red neck hiding in an Independants skin. Just look how he tries to intimidate the Democratic Strategist when he has his discussion. His Independant perspective is really Independant BS.

I guess she has learned her lesson – OBAMA won't ask to do anything. He does not like her and he doesn't feel the love unless he needs her to campaign for him. Don't worry to much about Hillary maybe he will ask her to "iron his shirt".

These fraudulent voter registration forms were sneaked in by Republicans!!

Gregg - Florida   October 14th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

I am not sure how the McCaign campaign can try to intimidate voters, now that the truth about Palin is coming out, seems Sarah has ties to that AIG, ( Alaska Independent Party ), gee, this is the group that wants to be seperate from the United States, seems she even went to a AIG convention in 2006, isnt Todd still in this group of people? gee,,,and there campaign is Country First? WAKE UP AMERICA!! McCaign // Palin the lying campaign...

RJ   October 14th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

ACORN is accused of voter REGISTRATION fraud even though McCain and several Republican governors complimented ACORN recently and last year.

What matters is VOTER FRAUD, not VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD. GOP is specialised in voter fraud committed on the voting day.

it is so despicable that mccain has to turn to such practices,
not only racist

Sure, all is just conspiracy against The One. Mr. Obama, you cheated to gain the nomination, you are trying to cheat now. When it doesn't work you cry the race card, the smear politics card, the 3rd Bush term card, and so on. Now its the intimidation card? ACORN is real Mr. Cheater.

Ace in VA   October 14th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Republicans committed fraud in 2004... remember anyone?

C   October 14th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

How do we know that the republicans weren't responsible for submitting fraudulent voter registration forms so they could then accuse ACORN and Obama of rigging votes!!!

Noah   October 14th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

OK, to all of the luny Lefties in here who claim McCain has "ties" to ACORN, the only "ties" he has is giving a speech in front of them. That can hardly be considered ties. It's not like McCain ever represented them in a legal case and defended their organization....but Obama did. NObama!

kcmookie   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Why do the Republican's have to act as though some type of voter fraud is going on, simply because Obama and the DNC have an excellent system in place to get the word out and get people registered, shouldn't that be the goal? Some fraud or false activity is bound to happen, can someone quantify it as a percentage of the total # of people registered? I mean seriously, if true ill intent is involved, do you really think they would be registering under the likes of 'Mickey Mouse'?

No amount of voter registration fraud can out-do the damage caused by the past 8 years of the Bush administration. When the Republican party loses this election, it will not be because of registration fraud, it will be due to people having had enough after 8 years of Bush. Even Republican's should be disgusted by there party....

The Fab One   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Desperate people do desperate things. Not this time, Republicans. We were too stupid to realize what happened when Bush stole the election 8 years ago. Not this time.

Your time is up. It's a new day and it's America's time now. Give up bravely, Republicans. You will not win. Not this time.

GO OBAMA!!

TheTruthHurts   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

I support Obama. I don't like this tactic. They should agree to bipartisan monitoring. They should explain their distance from Acorn and they should pledge some amount of campaign resources to poll monitoring. They should send letter to Secretaries of State where problems are expected to occur to make sure they're on PUBLIC NOTICE that turnout will be high and they need to call for whatever help they need to facilitate voting.

CJ   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

This is how the Republicans have won the last elections; using incessant scare tactics to coerce people into thinking that the Democratic candidate is too inexperienced and is a risky choice. Unfortunately, a myraid of voters do not expound their knowledge of a candidate beyond their face, and vote on gossip, or prejudice.
Obama does not have to utilize these negative tactics to win; Bush/Cheney have ruined our economy and national standing: we need a true leader and Renaissance man:

Doris,Memphis,TN   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

The Republicans have framed ACORN. Their party members submitted the fake registration forms to make it appear that the
democrats are cheating. They are desperate and plan to steal Ohio and Florida. However, this time Barack has the ground game covered.
It is going to be Mission Impossibe this year for them to steal the election as they did in 2000 and 2004.

SC Blue   October 14th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

This is another ROVE play. IF you register to vote nultiple times, you can still only vote ONCE. We should be more worried about the PURGE of voters in KEY STATES...everyone should check their registration status, just to make sure you name hasn't been purged.

McCain and Palin are not good for America.

Both McCain and Palin are dishonest and dishonorable and sow seeds of division as they appeal to the worst instincts we have as human beings. Their rallies seem more like a Klan rally than a political rally. We don't need more hatred in America and that is all they spew.

And...isn't it ironic that Palin can hear hecklers heckling her but somehow she never seems to hear the incendiary remarks her crowd makes about Obama.

Bob   October 14th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Of course the Republicans are trying to intimidate voters; they are attempting to steal another election. They have to lay the ground work. They can't win on ideas, so theft is the next course of action.

HA!! These liberal fools are so disgusting and transparent. Republicans don't want to make it harder to vote they want to make it legal! Democrats routinely engage in voter fraud and that is unacceptable. Only people who want fraud to occur would be against such simple and logical requirements as a picture I.D. in order to vote. How absurd are you liberals. You urinate on the Constitution daily

USAF Staff Sergeant   October 14th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

ACORN registering people twice or registering dead people to reach their numbers is NOTHING compared to the Republicans caging.. they are actually stopping legit voters from voting.

Dean P Valencia Ca   October 14th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Nobody should use fraud to register voters. But it is important to get out the vote and encourage people to vote for issues that impact them.

This is a perfect vehicle for the GOP to scare the American public and try to suppress voting.

That's why Fox is running this almost 24/7. Since Obama started rising in the polls you can really see how Imbalanced Fox news is.

Betty777   October 14th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Why do you think McCain pulled out of Michigan? Because they have already started cheating again. When you talk about the so called Bradley syndrome and how far ahead he was in the polls, did it ever occur to you that perhaps the election was rigged as usual. What is going on in my country, that people have to resort to anything they can to win. I must say I am couraged that you even ran the story. This is usually press we see on MSNBC. I am glad you are starting to smell the coffee. Let's see how long this lasts and if your news team will be sincere in covering this nonsense.

John C   October 14th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Registering and voting are separate things. These people can only vote once, or not at all if they don't exist. These people are paid to get people to register-it is their dishonesty that is in question. ACORN does not just register Democrates. There is no way to know if this is a set up by the republicans-like Rush Limbaugh's CHAOS plan. This is just another distraction.

Yeah, it's just registration fraud, not voter fraud. Well how about in Ohio where for a week, you could register and vote on the same day with no time for officials to validate registrations... nothing wrong with that!

FACT: ACORN has been convicted on multiple accounts of voter fraud and Obama has advocated for them as a lawyer, trained them and given hundreds of thousands of taxpayer and campaign money to them.

They are ANYTHING but bipartisan and should be defunded of any taxpayer money.

Mike in IL   October 14th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

It is a fact that Obama donated $800,000.00 to ACORN. What do they do in return commit voter fraud. It would be one thing if it was an isolated incident... it has happened in more than 6 states... to say it is the work of a few bad apples... sounds more like bad management and timing!!!

It is amazing that Obama is not out in front of this story... I guess he is going to sit back and wait... Is that what you want in a leader???

This is Chicago politics 101 and if all of you can not see through the rhetoric and his inexperience... our country deserves what comes next.

Brian   October 14th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

What else would the GOP do but put out tried-and-true tactics to suppress voters? They rely on unsuppressable voters – old white people who bring their gun to the polls with them just in case someone gets in their way. Young people, senior citizens, minorities, etc. are all irked more easily. Thanks GOP, we all knew you liked to keep the country in the hands of rich white people but thankfully it's not going to work this year.

No way, no how, no McCain. (and certainly no Palin)

Voter registration fraud is a lot different than voter fraud. Mickey mouse can register to vote. Fraud is when you prevent people from voting. The GOP has a long history of voter fraud and stealing elections. The Obama/Biden campaign is fully prepared for these tactics. The Obama/Biden campaign is the most organized in American history and is always two steps ahead of these stupid GOP's. This election will be won by intelligence, not scare tactics and dishonesty.

The simple fact of the matter is registering fake names, addresses etc. still doesn't equal voter fraud. Why? Because you still have to show up and present ID to vote to verify that you are you. It's all a mute point unless people actually vote repeatedly or illegally.

your information is inaccurate. the republicans including McCain and the governors of fl and ca all endorsed and spoke at the conference for acorn. ACORN is not in the obama campaign and has no relationship with any poltiical party. it is an independent group. if you want to talk about voter suppression, lets discuss the republicans who are purgining voter registration at the battleground states. the republicans also stole the election in 2000 & 2004.

joeparadis   October 14th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Republicans suppressing and intimidating voters–gambling in the casino. That is not new. What is new is that they won't get away with it this time without a fight. Where are the loud mouths like LOU DOBBS and others? They are busy looking in mirror and getting apoplectic over contrived trivia.

So how long do we have to wait until the story breaks about Palin's connection to the contractor who gave the Alaskan senator (the one who is on trial) his sweetheart deal?

Lyndon,CA   October 14th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Looks like Zimbabwe, the US version. Ballots with Barack Osama and problems with voting machines. Political rallies where nazi style if not George Wallace venom is spewed. Now if only opposition supporters could be chopped with machetes, but remember this is the US version.

Jennifer   October 14th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

McBush compaign...seriously reconsider how you are running the compaingn which is absolutely pathetic. The world is watching and i am sure, whole world is disgusted by McBush who questions the credibility/citizenship of the person who is his oppenent to just gain votes. just pathetic. Republicans who dont trust Obama, who think that he is terrorist, needs to check their head. They will probably vote for some white criminal but not obama..thats the height hatred they are showing. Its just disgusting.

Eric-30-m-PA   October 14th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Oh, please. The GOP is trying to make sure ACORN and others don't cheat, that's all. They know how Obama cheated in the caucuses and they don't want a repeat of that.

mike   October 14th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

The one who "created a situation where voters don't have faith in the system" was Obama. The FACT that his presidental campaign gave $800,000 to ACORN speaks for itself. Typical Obama-he's got a slick answer for everything.

Susan   October 14th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

McCain and Palin are a disgrace to this country. They try to tie Obama to everything. Why doesn't McCain come clean about his good frien and convicted felon, G.Gordon Liddy, who McCain said he is so proud of. CNN is finally talking about Sarah and Todd palin, and the AIP, so lets talk about Liddy, and the other relationships with shady people that McCain has!

ACORN is not a Democratic entity...they register all voters. Keep your eye on the Republicans, they have ecperience in STEALING elections, and preventing eligible voters from voting. Volunteer as a poll watcher, so when voters get turned away there is help at the polling place.

Nicolas Collado   October 14th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

I think the Republican Party and Mccain's campaign are trying to distract while they furnishe a fraud that prevent thousends of democracts voters from being located in the election day. I think they are trying to dislocate voters lists and prescincts in order to create c onfusion. All that investigation in battleground voters is moved by that issue.

Hilary Clinton should be our next Secretary of State ... She would be most effective there.

CR in WI   October 14th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

There have already been some discrepencies by McCain here in WI. Absentee ballot requests were sent out to registered democrats from the McCain camp, but the return address sent these requests to the incorrect clerk. There has been a lot of effort wasted by these election clerks to clarify the situation. They are trying to contact all affected. But if people who do not receive their absentee ballot and aren't contacted, then try to vote on Nov 4th they will be subject to their vote being disqualified due to the previous absentee request.

I'm *sure* this is just an honest mistake. . .

Matt   October 14th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

After the typical accusation towards the GOP, Obama begins to distance himself from ACORN. Wonder who is going to get thrown under the bus this time? I guess it is easier than calling for an investigation of this problem... wouldn't want to do THAT... it might disqualify some of his "voters."

How very Presidential.

Mister Plouffe, can you include in this strategy Lou Dobbs. The guy has been hammering everyday the Acorn thing for more than a week. At no point did he mention McCain working in collaboration with Acorn until 2006. At no point did he talk about Palin misconduct. At no point is he talking about vote suppression. It was absolutely disgusting to see him bark at Zimmerman who dared to contradict him while raising the question of hate speech with McCain and Palin. I am still struggling to understand how an objective media keep this guy on their schedule.

I thought McCain said yesterday he is fighting back. His plan to help America was nothing. And like I said if there is voter fraud, how does it benefit Obama? Their OWN registration under their OWN standards ??? huh?

Shouldn't they be registering voters through normal channels under the National standards?

Isn't that what the mess with ACORN is all about – they took their own liberties with the registration process?

Follow the money trail and it leads to the Democrats who never have nor ever will stop at anything to get their canidate elected.

He's just getting very upset because people are getting wise to his unsavory and possibly illegal voting activities.

Obama/Biden 2008

Laura, Boston   October 14th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I read on one of the CNN blogs that John McCain was tied in with ACORN. I took a few minutes to google that fact and found out the following: (John McCain was shown in a picture in FL in 2006 during and immigration event. The article sights the following.

The beleaguered Democratic-leaning community group Acorn sends over this photograph: John McCain, in March of 2006, sitting beside Florida Rep. Kendrick Meek at an event Acorn co-sponsored in Florida.

The immigration event, which other photos show was packed with red-shirted Acorn member, was co-sponsored by the local Catholic Archdiocese, the SEIU, and other groups.

McCain, still spiting much of his party on immigration at the time, was the headliner.

Bertha Lewis, Acorn's chief organizer, said in a statement that came with the photo, “It has deeply saddened us to see Senator McCain abandon his historic support for ACORN and our efforts to support the goals of low-income Americans."

”We are sure that the extremists he is trying to get into a froth will be even more excited to learn that John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN, at an ACORN co-sponsored event, to promote immigration reform," she said.

Everyone who reads that can see that McCain truly:

1. Worked across party lines-worked with Dems on immigration.
2. Worked against his own party-thus the Maverick McCain
3. Had nothing to do with voter fraud!!!

That is the issue people have with ACORN. Last night it was reported that OH is investigating them due to the testimony of 2 young AA men (democrats) who registered numerous times (one 13 the other 73). Can you image if even 1/4 of those registered in swing states are fraudulent...how many millions of votes that would be. That makes the polling suspect in a lot of these states as well. How do we know that the people being called are legit? We don't!!! That is why we need the MSM to stay on top of this story....

Dave in Illinois   October 14th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

So his news is that the GOP is trying to intimidate voters. Maybe they're only trying to intimidate the ghost voters that the ACORN group registered to vote for Obama.

Obama will need all the votes he can get to offset the cheating that will undoubtely take place by the Republicans on Nov4th. I bet you Florida won't even be able to send in their final counts.

Janine   October 14th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I knew the Republican party was up to something. I live in Las Vegas and I thought it was weird that the local news reported that ACORN Las Vegas office was under investigation for fraudulent registrations when it was in fact the ACORN office that contacted authorties about the fraudulent registrations that were turned in. I also think it was ironic that days after, our local news was reporting that real voter registrations had been removed by accident. And just last night, they urged everyone to make sure they are still registered by going to the state's election site.

These were two guys who actually practiced law for all of their adult lives, they weren't just figure heads. Despite your small-minded beliefs, these high level positions in government require experience in dealing with the issues. This is just another of the McCain campaign's tricks to try and link Obama to negative people and entities that have nothing to do with him. Pretty soon they'll be making the argument that Obama and Bin Laden are in cahoots.

On the other hand, I think it's important to bring people's attention to voter registration, especially if McCain's campaign tries the dirty tactics that Bush did in '04. I hope that Obama and his guys are ready for them, and are able to fight back against caging, and other dirty tricks they use to try to prevent democrats from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote.

GET REAL.   October 14th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Here's what i don't get:
McCain – implicated and investigated in Keating 5 scandal.
Palin – implicated and investigated in Troopergate scandal.
Obama – just happens to know Ayers and Rezko. No investigation, no court case in which Obama is implicated.

So who would you rather stand next to: someone who may know a killer, or someone who was investigated for taking part in the killing? Please think about this… saying that someone sympathizes with bad people is one thing, but being investigated is a whole new animal. Don't speak it if you've done one worse.

CNN, please post me. I've already tried three times today…

Registration Fraud IS NOT Voter Fraud!
Registration Fraud IS NOT Voter Fraud!
Registration Fraud IS NOT Voter Fraud!

Just because some poor person paid by the registration writes up registrations for "Mickey Mouse" and "Captain America" - which is wrong– doesn't mean that Mickey Mouse and Captain America are going to show up at the polls and vote for Obama.

This is just a distraction. What Republicans do in response is try to throw out huge batches of legitimate new registrations– which are overwhelmingly Democratic– thus denying the real ones a right to vote.

Reagan   October 14th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

What David Plouffe's good conscious would have said.....

“O'Bama is setting up a strategy here to make it harder to have a fair voting process ,”

“McCain is trying to rectify a situation where voters have confidence in the system.”

“McCain is raising questions. You know, crying out and raising questions about fraud, while Obama creates a smokescreen out there to confuse voters and perhaps to give cover to some of the activities they’re going to be undertaking over the next three weeks.”

---
Is O'Bamas campaign too scared to face the result of a fair election?

Thanks CNN for FINALLY uncovering Palin's involvement in the separatist group , The Alaskan Independence Party. Sara Palin is a complete oxymoron of an American. It is ironic how
she spewed her venom and incited the most ugliest underbelly of
American society, and she herself abused her power while in office.
I wonder of the bigots some of which call themselves Cristians can look themselves in the mirror this morning?
The sad part is that they probably can. McCain may have saved a tiny
bit of any honor that he has left by defending his and Palin's lies about
Senator Obama, who worked his way up to become a worthy and
patriotic American, only to be told by his fellow American, that he is the
wrong color. This should wake America up to not judge a book by
its cover. The devil just may wear lipstick.

That guy grew up... and is now a PROFESSOR of a College. He also sits on some Educational Boards where also Obama did... That to me shows that Even though he has a shady PAST... people do Change and do better in life. This from the party who says that polls don't really reflect what the American people believe.

another gimmicky smoke screen, hail mary from the McCain camp. Does anyone believe that these people are ready to lead when they can't even run a campaign?

Tim - TN   October 14th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

What everyone should know is the primaries were totally different. If anyone 'bad-mouthed' Obama during the primaries, that was ok. Even the Democratic Goddess Hillary spoke about Obama and Ayers. Now that Obama is the top dog for the Democrats, we need everyone to support him unconditionally. Just ask Hillary. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH POLITICS. On one hand we can talk bad about our opponents, but only if the primaries are over. After that, anyone that speaks anything but support for Obama, must be a racist. That is what is seems like the DNC is trying to sell to me. I don't particularly like the GOP this year either. I believe there should be some very intense investigations into the voter registrations done by ACORN (I registered at the DMV, or some other government facility, why does ACORN exists?), but I really see this as another election that will be "won" by a decision in some court somewhere, and once again there will be no 'United States'. Revamp the Electoral College to 51 (one for each State, one for D.C.), this will eliminate the "Battleground States" (all is fair in love and war...) and help to eliminate some of the 'hate-filled' rallies on both sides...

I'm sorry... I just woke up from my dream. Can we get a viable third choice that is on every State's ballot????

THE ENTIRE GOP RIGHT NOW SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTIONS –THEY ARE SHAMELESS AND CAN'T BE TRUSTED

Laura   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

ACORN, who cares. I can't stand McCain/Palin ticket. I was once a supporter of this ticket. This ticket is hateful, liars and erratic. I'm a registered republican and will be voting for Obama/Biden.

Tony   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

THE PATHETIC THING ABOUT MCCAIN AND PALIN LYING LIKE THE DESPERATE DOGS THEY ARE IS THAT SO MANY "REPUBLICANS" BELIEVE THEM.

STOP DRINKING THE KOOL-AID PEOPLE.

bridgette   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I love the fact that they don't let them get away with anything. Because ACCORN has been registering voters for over two years and by law every ballot that they get they have to send it to the election commissioners, that's what their called in my state, and it's up to the election commissioners to go through them. Here's another thing that bothers me about this is that they are only complaining about swing states and it's only in minority neighborhoods. Why are they constantly trying to suppress our votes.

I dont' understand how McCain can fix his lips to even suggest that the Obama campaign is trying something. I think this man has really lost his mind.

Knowledge is Power   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

the Republicans blaming the Dems for voter fraud?? Gee, I remember 2000. The Republicans stole that election, they are experts on fraud and clouding the issues.

No Hillary = No Obama   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

The Opportunists – that sums up the Obama campaign. When all is said and done do you really think people are going to vote for someone with no real experience to lead the country? Someone whose as thin as a sheet of ice in depth of policy and proposals? When the day comes, people will vote for the statesman, not the salesman.

John in Ohio   October 14th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

McCain and the Republicans know that they are losing. They've known since the start that they would lose. They're working now on setting the stage for 8 years of whining about how the election was stolen from them. They are setting the stage for 8 years of petulant unthinking reactionary resistance to everything Obama and Congress tries to accomplish.

Shoes on the other foot now, fascists. Cry more, your tears sustain me.

So, when liberals are unhappy with how an election goes, we can threaten to move to Canada. Where will you guys go? What other country in the world is remotely as Christian Conservative as the US?

Good luck and get lost.

Real Change   October 14th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Republicans complianing about vote fraud is like the Cookie Monster complaining about somebody raiding the kitchen.

the other jd   October 14th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Well if anyone knows about voter fraud, it would be the Republican party. They perfected the art thereof.

Sylvia, Dallas,GA   October 14th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

The McCain and Palin ticket should be ashamed of themselves. ContinACORN employees forged documents to be paid. Is Obama to blame for that? NO, NO, NO!! What will McCain and Palin blame him for next?
I am a Christian and I am so ashamed of the McCain and Palin ticket. They are a shameful representation of the Republican ticket. True republicans do not behave that way. The new GOP is filled with HATERS. FOX NEWS is despicable. Sean Hanity and Orielly are hate mongers and so are Sarah and John. This ticket is representing the something sinister.

As for CNN, please do something about Lou Dobbs, he is a pretender. Far, far from independent but bias and favorable of the new style GOP (hate mongers) and he are so negative. I change the channel every time his show starts. Lou Dobbs, you are a disgrace.

McCain linked to group in Iran-Contra case
Obama was roughly 8 years old when Ayers, now at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was working with the Weather Underground, which took responsibility for bombings that included nonfatal blasts at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol. McCain's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, has said that Obama "pals around with terrorists."
In McCain's case, Singlaub knew McCain's father, a Navy admiral who had sought Singlaub's counsel when McCain, a Navy pilot, became a prisoner of war and spent 5 1/2 years in North Vietnamese hands.
"John's father asked me for advice about what he ought to do now that his son had been shot down and captured," Singlaub recalled in one of two recent interviews. "I said, 'As long as you don't give any impression that you care more about him than you care about any of the other prisoners, he won't be treated any differently.'"
Covert arms shipments
Covert arms shipments to the rebels called Contras, financed in part by secret arms sales to Iran, became known as the Iran-Contra affair. They proved to be the undoing of Singlaub's council.
In 1987, the Internal Revenue Service withdrew the tax-exempt status of Singlaub's group because of its activities on behalf of the Contras.

Acorn 100% vote for Obama. Acorn his baby and they go for papa. A lot of fraud going on this year. Obama no matter what never going to be President for MY FAMILY>

alabama independent   October 14th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

He is tied to acorn and he should go back to washington and make sure there are laws in place to avoid fraud. Obama will try to win at all cost. May not like everything McCain stands for but can't trust Obama

heartlight 3, Maui, HI   October 14th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I don't see what the big deal is about this whole ACORN voter registration issue. So if someone at ACORN registers "Mickey Mouse", do you think he is going to show up at the polls to vote? If he does, do you think anyone is going to actually let him vote? This is a non-issue. Of much more concern is the tricks that are being used to remove people from the voter rolls.

ready for change   October 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

ALL MCCAIN KNOWS TO DO IS LIE, SNEAK, PLANT RUMORS, IT HASN'T WORKED BEFORE AND IT WON'T WORK NOW, AMERICA IS SICK OF HIS AND HIS CRIMINAL RUNNING MATES ABUSIVE CAMPAIGN. VOTE OBAMA-BIDEN

Greed is not good   October 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

The GOP is the one interferring with voting rights and registration. Laws try to intimidate voters into thinking they need to have property or be homeowners to vote. States do not allow for mailing addresses on permanent absentee unless you document your physical address. That means the poor and even some renters that have to pay for rooms in private residence don't get to vote.

Shari, NY   October 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I feel like crying for McCain more than anyone else. He reminds of a baby uncontrollably soiling himself with a nanny who looks the other way. He and Palin might as well set up a podium in the wilderness and preach to the wildlife, for any reasonable person can see that their act is for the birds.

Ed   October 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Is this not what the US government condemn when it happens in developing countries? It appears that humans are the same every where, afterall." Power is not voluntarily given to those who are oppressed. It must be demanded, " according to MLK Jr.

Go Obama/Biden. Go!!

Maggie from Virginia   October 14th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Will the McCain camp ever learn?

lisa m   October 14th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

No duh.

What's new.

karen raleigh   October 14th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I would be checking voter fraud from the republican side–who are they kidding–lets paint this country blue– all for one and one for all–lets unite. Obama/Biden 08 YES WE CAN

Joe   October 14th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

McCain attended a political event that was co-sponsored by ACORN. Make sure you mention that next time this story comes up.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 14th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Voter registration is bad – but it is NOT voter fraud. The people will not show up to vote because they are not real.

AIP and PNAC are real. Google each of them and read very carefully – there are several articles on each.

Just saying ------

Average American   October 14th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

This should be no surprise to anyone. It has been the standard for the last 7 years, 2 months and 3 days. Since it is election time, the scare tactics will start rolling out. It is all the Republicans have left.

Bad boys...   October 14th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I am AFRAID of REPUBLICANS...will there be a BUSH effect at the polls??? YOU BETCHA!!!

Jody Monroe   October 14th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

It appears as if the ACORN field workers get paid by the # of folks they register, which promotes false registrations. Maybe there's a better way to pay the field workers, perhaps hourly???

Voter fraud is intolerable, no matter who commits it. Obama should welcome the ACORN investigations and call on them to correct their system. Obama needs to take a strong and swift stand against any type of voter fraud, AND should monitor the elections in every area.

Tony   October 14th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

THIS IS NOTHING NEW.

IT'S A PAGE RIGHT OU T OF THE REPUBLICAN PLAYBOOK.

WHILE SINKING IN THE POLLS, MCCAIN AND PALIN ARE DOING THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE LEFT, LYING, ACCUSING, ATTACKING AND DISTORTING.

I HOPE, THOUGH SERIOUSLY DOUBT, THAT WHEN MCCAIN LOSES IN NOVEMBER HE WILL DO SO WITH SOME INTEGRITY AND NOT THE WAY HE HAS RUN HIS CAMPAIGN.

Scott in Atlanta   October 14th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Please read the article entitled "Make-Believe Maverick" in the October 16th edition of the Rolling Stones magazine. Even though they're a popular music publication, they've had some remarkable insight into the political arena.

I dare you to read it "That one is a friend of Karl Marxs too"

Spencer/Commonwealth of Virginia   October 14th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

They don't understand that their fear tactics won't work this time around. Give it up GOP.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08
