Republicans consider loan to help Senate incumbents

Analysts say the November election could give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority.
Analysts say the November election could give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority.

(CNN) - Amid a string of polls that suggest Democrats could be in striking distance of reaching a filibuster-proof majority, the Republican National Committee is considering taking out a loan to help endangered senators in key battleground states, a GOP strategist told CNN Tuesday.

The news comes a week after the RNC announced it had raised $66 million in September, its best fundraising month ever. But in an effort to keep pace with Barack Obama's cash advantage over John McCain, those funds are going entirely toward the presidential race.

Related: Can Dems reach 60?

Meanwhile the National Republican Senatorial Committee has been largely outspent by its Democratic counterpart this cycle and the possibility of Democrats getting to the magic number of 60 seats in the Senate has become likely in the wake of the economic crisis.

It's unclear what the size of the loan might be, but Politico reported Monday the amount could be as high as $5 million.

McCain's slime has hit the fan!!!

Is McCain taking the GOP down with him on his free fall?

"We will rather not discuss the Economy" what did McCain and Sister Sarah discuss on the stump? They stirred up the base with base words, FEAR, HATRED, DIVISIVE language, Close call to anarchy....Whoa, Whoa..that was scarry!!

Now the GOP will pay for the sins of these overtly ambitious but Unqualified duo.

    God bless America.

If the republicans can't get their constituents to donate to their re-election campaign, that must mean no one wants republicans in office, so why should the taxpayers be stuck with the bill???????
Enough of this bailout non-sense already!!!!!!!!!

The GOP want to borrow but don't want to give the American people a dime!! They have already stole enough!! If everyone of them will give back what they stole. We could make up our deficit!!

While they are investigating Acorn. They need to be investigated themselves!!!

Think of how they always drop businesses and get a new name when their businesses fail, they file for bankruptcies and never pay the money back. We owe China 4 Trillion dollars and they want to borrow more money from people who hate us how sad can you get, they want to leave this debt for our children which is now 83,000 per person this is completely crazy!

If the republicans are suppose to be for less gov.spending then why ask for a gov. loan. This is proof that people are tired of their out of control spending now they have proof through their campaigns that they can not even budget their finances in that dept. either. This is the reason we are in the mess we're in now. They have been so busy helping each other get rich that they have not learned that there are people in the middle and on the bottom of the ladder trying to get to the top also. They are pretty desperate now but that is what greed gets them.If they were not trying to see to it that the CEO'S got there big bonuses maybe they could have gotten them to loan them some of the money they have swindle the American people out of .

Acorn has registered voters for almost the past 2 years. The repubs have the voter fraud history in 2000 and 2004.

The present crap in the registrations are most likley repubs behind the push. Look back at the past and make up your oun mind. Republicans undermind the registrations

"Llimited spending" also turned out to be a farce for GOP Republicans. These borrow-and-spend habits created record-breaking deficits while in majority. Eight is enough of their nonsense!

I would seriously hope that the GOP has as much trouble getting a loan as the rest of us citizens have had since the economic crash.

For the records, I vote NO to a GOP bailout/rescue plan! (I figured I would get my NO vote in before they even make a pitch for another 4,733 trillion dollars).

One question, are republicans not supposed to be fiscal conservatives ?? So why the heck borrow money and live over your means ??

I think it should be illegal for any political party to take a loan in order to raise campaign funds, especially in light of this current economic crisis which was fueled by lenders lending to people who could not pay them back. If they get the loan and it does not work, who would be paying it back? We would, and that is just horse manure.

I intend to vote for Obama. BUt in the senate I will vote for Cornyn. He has been a good senator with right policies (of course, he had to cheerlead war, but what can he do?)

  25. what???

What are you people talking about? They are talking about borrowing on a line of credit – no taxpayer money. Apparently the minds Democrats instantly think immediately of handouts as they're trained to do – just like Hillary doing her trained seal act trying to get a handout from Obama.
