Sen. Biden took on Sen. McCain's recent attacks on Sen. Obama during a campaign event in Ohio Wednesday.

LANCASTER, Ohio (CNN) – Joe Biden told supporters that John McCain has heightened attacks on Barack Obama because the Arizona senator is ‘drowning.’

Watch: Biden on McCain's attacks

“When you're drowning, you've got to try a new method to stay above the water,” Biden told a small Ohio University audience seated in a field on the edge of campus. “John McCain's offering nothing new and that's why I think John McCain's campaign is becoming so erratic. Political stunts instead of offering significant solutions.”

Later in his speech, the Delaware senator pointed to a cartoon in the local newspaper picturing bankers jumping off a bank while McCain and running mate Sarah Palin look on and remark, “Barack Obama pals around with a terrorist, you know.”

“I think it best captures anything I have seen,” said the Delaware senator holding up the paper.

“While the economy is going to hell in a handbasket, while people are losing their jobs, while things are going under, they’re running the most scurrilous campaign in modern history trying to tie a decent honorable man raised by his grandparents and his mother who worked his way up, who fought in a way that few people have to fight to make something of himself.”

Biden has one more stop on his two-day bus tour of Ohio before heading west to raise money and campaign in California, along with the battleground states of New Mexico and Nevada.

McCain is unfortunately drowning in the mess of his own making. Instead addressing the issues, McCain diverts to the same dishonorable tactics that he used to speak against.

America needs a new direction from the past eight years.

Every voter… no matter who you are supporting should google:
Philip J. Berg esq and Obama.

You need to read about his lawsuit and how Obama and the DNC are trying to hide it from you. This is not an anti-Obama post, this is a serious issue. This is a pro USA post.

Desperate people do desparte things. How low will McCain go? He should try to keep at least some of his honor.

I agree Joe...I like to say that John McCain is out of touch. He's out of ideas and he is running out of time, money, support and his medications.

You gotta love Joe Biden. he kinda reminds me of Hillary in the fact that he too is a FIGHTER! and tough. If Obama had not picked Biden he would have had to choose Hillary. I am glad to see Hillary fighting for the party. THE DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM RULEZ!!!

Judge Obama by what HE does or says..... NOT by some "NUT" he sits on a board with, or some "FOOL" who preaches in a church. We should ALL look at the Nuts, and Fools (WE) hang out with.

Joe, this is why I respect you so much – you say it straight. It's a pity your good friend from 2000 isn't around any more, because he was somebody I also respected. Don't see much of him any more these days.
