From

HEMPSTEAD, New York (CNN) - Obama is once again not answering the question about which programs he will cut.

He says that he will go through the budget line by line and eliminate the programs that don't work...but he won't specifically name any.

McCain is also avoiding specifics on this issue. Why can't they just acknowledge that if the economy is in a slump they will have to delay rolling out new projects and spending, and then they'll try and get them done when the economy picks up again?

obama is so smooth, and mccain seems so old and lame. what a difference. obama has a total grasp of the issues, and mccain goes back to old slogans and half-truths. Obama is killing Mccain.

Michelle   October 15th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

You can only predict so much before you get in office. If he gets in there and doesn't make things better, he'll be out in 4 years. It's as simple as that. We should have done that with Bush and we wouldn't be where we are right now.

bruce   October 15th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

McCain keeps saying the same cliches as he has for weeks....He is trying to make points for the sake of making them, with no detail or depth of explanation.

GObama   October 15th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

What??? OH yeah, it's Schneider again....

GJ   October 15th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

McCain is going to pop a vein before this night is over...scary stuff!!!

earlean   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I think mccain is rambling and I think that obama are answering questions and I don't think that obama campaign is negative

Paul   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

McCain continues to use the same sentances he used in the second debate, no new ideas, same word for word... move on

foxrun   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Funny to call a man who defended his country a loser. I wonder if you would do the same. Those of us that have placed our lives on the line, as to provide a country that allows you to continue to cut down a person with McCain's diginity...WOW...look in the mirror...look in the mirror. What do you see...LOSER

MISSISSIPPI FOR OBAMA   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Mccain sucks, if he wins America goes down the drain with Mccain. Mccain is getting irritated...lol hahahahaha Mccain is spending more time attacking Obama and not talking about the issues, Mccain is such a liar.

Vote Obama/Biden 08

Danielle   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I want to know what Obamas name is. I have heard his middle name is Hussian? I think he should come clean about his name. After all we are named for our family our friends and our familys heros.
I would not vote for a man that tries to lie about his name.
Would he think he could be sworn in office and still hide his full name. this needs to be fixed!!!! Danielle

AJ   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Nobody wants to hear about spending cuts lol. Its not a fun topic. I'm thinking Obama will have to delay his health care initiatives when he takes office. Sorry Hil. But I dont' blame him, we need to get this economy up and running.

Go Obama

Mccain Sounds Like He Is Going To Cry!

MikeH   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Headline "Obama doesn't answer question"

Fine Print "McCain doesn't answer question either"

Whoever is composing the ticker headlines tonight appears to be a Republican operative. You're too late though.

amandazz   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

McCain is writing down the questions so he doesnt forget in the two minutes Obama answers. McCain threw the first punch. and by the way McCain let his rallies get of hand and said nothing, and because he said something once he says he said it all the time. Mr. McCain, yet another lie.

Independent for Obama   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Don't you have to look at the budget first to know what programs to cut????

Shawn   October 15th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

McCain said he was against torture yet he supported the Bush but McCain supported Bush veto of bill banning harsh interrogation .

Mike, Syracuse NY   October 15th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Obama give a straight answwer? Good luck with that. It's never happened yet.

KJL   October 15th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Can't imagine either of these guys knows exactly what they will do until they consult many experts and see what they have to work with. McCain is pretty dim when it comes to finance. He has so much money he doesn't care.

trina   October 15th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Well how would you know what you are going to cut until you look at all the programs.

What in the heck is he talking about wiht John Lewis?

Smarter than the GOP   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

McCain is ditching every question... he keeps trying to talk personal to us, when he sounds like a blank robot

LTC   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

I think Obama is doing great. He knows that we are in a depression ans will have to cut everything!

Adam   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Why doesn't your title say McCain didn't answer the question either then?

Vermont Independent   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

This is the worst independent dial group yet – the graph clearly shows that the men are more conservative than the woman. CNN picked the wrong group this time.

Robin   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Obama was more specific.

Mary   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Oh, blame it on the lack of presence at the town hall meetings!

Zion   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Yes, they did.

Wes   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

He said he'd cut subsidies to insurance companies. Is that not specific enough?

mscrigler   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

I did hear him mention subsidies to insurance companies. No, he didn't name 9 or 10 but he didn't fumble like McCain is doing.

xavier   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Actually, one cant really answer this questions till one is actually the president.

debi   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

barack WILL LEAD us-Barack WILL LEAD us! Iraq wants us out! Let's GOOOO!

Stacy from Loudoun County VA   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Yeah, he answered questions. But as far as Senator McCain, he keeps repeating his stump speeches and my ears have the scars to prove it.

anna   October 15th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

It is getting hot!!

Jennifer   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Bill shneider, You are partly right that they should simply say the truth about their plans. but hey..they do not want to loose supporters..so I think its wise they should evade it

Vanessa Napa, Califronia   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

how can he tell you what programs he is cutting when he has not seen the budget? this is not a question that can be answered that easily.

PaulMoATX   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Here goes moron Schneider on his rants and bias reporting. What programs did McCain say he was going to cut? Oh yeah, he just said he would freeze spending. Doesn't work.

AP   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Why does the headline read "Obama doesn't answer question" when McCain didn't answer it either? *sigh* The MSM fight for the horserace continues.

Tom, KS   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

He's talking about investing in our future. I think we can go a little deeper in debt in order to ensure a more prosperous time ahead.

Marge   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

That cause obama doesn't have a clue as to what to do. He can't sit on his b utt and vote present or not vote at all and it is making him sweat. This country WANTS AND ANSWER AND HIS IS TOO EGOTISTIC and concentrated on himself to know what to do.

dustin   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

well i spoke too soon about schneider in the last ticker

lou in ottawa   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

McCain has good talking points, but no brain to answer questions – so far this debate sucks.

Zolesh   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Which debate is Schnieder listening to

annoying   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

you're so annoying with your major bias republican analysis

David   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Actually I think Obama is missing the chance to go on the offensive... what about saving $10B per month by getting out of Iraq?!

Mike   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

He did give a specific example, $15 billion in insurance subsidies. Did you miss that one?

Leslie in Alabama   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

They can't answer specifically because neither can afford to offend anyone until they get into office.

Citizen   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Schneider I don't know what debate you are watching, because McCain just rambles on and on and on and on. He does not know how to shut the Hell up.

oboeanon   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

No..he's not president Bush. He's Bush jr.

Joshua   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Stopping the war would save a ton of money every month. McCain just falls back to his war references and his ear marks. Seriously? Earmarks? Sure Senator McCain, give out more 300 billion dollar tax cuts and cut back ear marks. That'll fix us!

Bama4Obama   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

All McCain has offered so far is more "I know how to____", without specifics either.

Jay   October 15th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Dont think that McCain has either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wayne   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

What are all those noises that McCain is making when Obama is talking? Is McCain having a heart attack or a flem problem? listen he is snorting hacking all alone.. not very professional.

Politics 1234   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

I have a question Schneider: What programs would you cut?

Erick in Alabama   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

McCain doesn't have an answer either Ryan! So get over yourself, that loser will not win the election. Obama has the smarts to think first and act second. He'll go through the budget and look at it in detail and not just name something out of thin air to satisfy the media. Obama 2008!

Accountant Guy   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

You are doing Awesome Obama. Stay on top of your game President Obama.

Obama/Biden '08

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

He answered better than John. John is all over the map – 3 or 4 subjects instead of answering. Come on Schneider, leave YOUR agenda at home.

George in AZ   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

McCain did mention some programs he would cut but he did not answer the question fully. But, yet again Obama will NOT answer the question. Obama is attacking and appears to be defensive. McCain is pressing the issue. and, I say "Right On" to McCain telling Obama that he is not Bush. If Obama wanted to run against Bush, he should have run 4 years ago. Obama is still an empty suit who speaks well. There is no substance to his words.

Carrie Pa   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

Both are afraid to answer the question! I feel that McCain will probably cut all programs for the poor. Obama will probably have to wait for some of his programs.

SHELLI1313   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

Senator McCain is a big lier and he is constantly on the attack. Neither one of them are in office and they both will have to get into the office and go over the ledgers and other papers before they can say yes I'll cut this and cut that. McNasty is still being angry and chopping on the desk like a mad man. Senator Obama is doing what he can to keep a mad man (Senator McCain) from going totally off on the stage. McSame is just acting like a robot.

Richie   October 15th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

McW answered it. He won't spend anything. Yay! That means the war is over. Bring home the troops!

Adrienne   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Yes he did.. 15 million in is unneeded ss waste.

foxrun   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Typical Obama fashion. Won't answer the tuff questions. Must be nice to call the war stupid when you haven't even served in our armed forces.

Achille Salesh   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Obama is more specific than Mc cain Sir.
He has said what he think is a response to the question. He hasn't 10 minutes for every single question.

phil s.   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

cuz no american likes an honest politician bill.

fearmongers   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

mccain couldn't remember what the question even was.
give me a break

Smarter than the GOP   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Does he have access to the budget? How can he provide a list if he doesn't know which ones have wasteful spending? GEEZ

White Christian Mother for Obama   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

BULL he said MEDICAID would be cut once we get the Healthcare going... which will be ALOT

Loans from other countries giving us a deeper Debt will be stopped when we go using Energy!!

I bet there are many things in the Budget that Obama and McCain dont even know about

Its McCain that cant answer what he will cut. He just tiptoes around it. NO set plan!

Michele   October 15th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Because they have no idea what they can cut until they get in there.

Dr. Roy   October 15th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I agree – Same as last debate – Obama is not answering the questions.

FINALLY, McCain gave it to Obama – " I am not President Bush."

Veteran for McCain   October 15th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I love the comment that McCain just had "If you wanted to run against Bush then you should of run 4 years ago!!!" That was AWESOME...

Jeff   October 15th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I say we give the presidency to the first candidate that actually ANSWERS a question.

Ryan   October 15th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

That's because he doesn't have an answer. Say no to socialism.

McCAIN 08

Richie   October 15th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

He'll stop the stupid war. The stupid stupid war.
