Trump: I wanted Bush impeached

Trump says that Bush got the US into a war with Iraq using lies.
Trump says that Bush got the US into a war with Iraq using lies.

(CNN) – Business mogul Donald Trump told CNN Wednesday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should have sought to impeach President Bush when she had the chance.

In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Trump said the president and his administration deliberately lied about the Iraq war, and congressional Democrats missed an opportunity to impeach him when the party took control of Congress in 2006.

Watch the full interview on The Situation Room at 4 and 6 p.m. ET.

"I was surprised that she didn't do more in terms of Bush and going after Bush," Trump said. "It was almost - it just seemed like she was going to really look to impeach Bush and get him out of office, which personally I think would have been a wonderful thing."

Pressed why he feels Bush deserved the punishment faced by only two other commanders-in-chief, Trump said the president misled the country in the run-up to the Iraq war, and that his actions were considerably more objectionable than those which led to the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton.

"He lied. He got us into the war with lies," Trump said. And I mean - look at the trouble Bill Clinton got into with something that was totally unimportant. And they tried to impeach him, which was nonsense. And yet Bush got us into this horrible war with lies, by lying, by saying they had weapons of mass destruction, by saying all sorts of things that turned out not to be true."

In the wide-ranging interview set to air on CNN's The Situation Room at 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Trump also praised John McCain and said the Arizona senator still has a chance to win the White House despite recent polls showing he is substantially trailing Barack Obama.

Watch: I'd hire McCain, says Trump

"He's a very smart guy, he's a tough guy," he said. "I think he'd be a great president. But, he has to be John McCain and he could still probably pull it out. But, it's going to be tough."

Trump also advised the Republican presidential nominee to stay positive at Wednesday's final presidential debate and communicate clear plans to fix the nation's financial crisis.

"He has to come up with plans and not political plans, real plans. And they have to be very, very economy-based," Trump said. " I think the economy seems to be weighing down everything."

Trump praised Republican VP Sarah Palin, whom he first met Tuesday night at a New York fundraiser, and said he would trust her to run the economy.

"I can only go by the people of Alaska," she said. "She's got the highest rating in the whole Unites States, as being the most popular governor."

Who cares what Donald Trump thinks about anything?!? The man is in no way a role model for our nation. And the fact that CNN feels he is worthy of the top headlines...well, perhaps we should focus on worthier things that actually impact our country.

Trump is a male Paris Hilton!

It doesn't matter at this point how or why we went to war. It is a bit late for all that... The fact is now we need to win this war and securing the area and keeping terrorist at bay. I don't think you can compare McCain to Bush no more than you could compare Lincoln to Bush. I do feel Obama will make the economy worse. I do think Palin will do well but I wish the Liberals would stop this Bad Bashing and making movies about Palin and making this the fiflthiest campaign I have ever seen. My 12 year old is watching the news and debate and I am now having to screen what he sees because of the news media reporting all the trash, Yeah right go Liberals you and acorn are doing a great job.

Of course Trump supports McCain- he is one of the very few Americans whose interests are served by McCain's proposed tax policy. The guy is an absolutely textbook example of narcissistic personality disorder, so it's not surprising has no empathy for people who are not going to benefit from that Bush tax policies that McSame wants to continue.

I think he knows that the Republican party is morally bankrupt. I thinkhe knows that Sarah Palin is a dangerously unqualified moron. I think he knows trickle down economics is a crock, (the problem being that down is not the direction that money tends to flow, and the proof being in the fact that it has been tried many times and consistently failed to work as advertised). However, Trump is too narcissistic to care what happens to the country if there's a profit in it for him. .

    He's right about Sarah Palin–

Sarah is so much more accomplished than her critics-Mayor, Governor with the highest approval rating in the U.S., Member of the Alaskan Energy and Conservation Board, all by the age of 44 and all while raising 5 kids.

Let's hear from all of you Olbermann, Matthews and Madow lovers out there about your accomplishments.

If Trump wants Palin in office there's something big in it for him. Or he's an idiot. Or maybe a little bit of both.

Donald Trump comments on Bush is exactly correct except for McCain voted with the Bush policies 90% of the time. If McCain is so smart, then what does that it say about his thinking capabilities?

Donald Trump should stick to building hotels and casino. Enough said

    AMEN Donald!!

What's so confusing is that you're endorsing McCain/Palin, though.

Not a very smart choice Trump!

Wow! The only thing saving Bush and Cheney is the fact they will out of office in a few months.

If Bush and/ or Cheney lied and intentionally manipulated facts to make a case for war...they deserve much worse than impeachment.

How many times has Trump declared bankruptcy? Yup, leave it to this fool to suggest that Palin has what it takes to run this country. He couldn't even run his own business.

I may be GOP but I, too, wanted the neo-con Bush impeached. Cheney, too. The neo-cons have hijacked the GOP and it no longer resembles what it stood for (time to search out a viable third party). The takeover was completed with George H.W. Bush when he ascended to the presidency. He would have never been Reagan's VP (since he disliked him) if not for the fact Reagan was strongarmed by Kissinger and Conkrite (you won't read that in a history book or the news).

This is a very weak endorsement from Trump. He did not even imply that McCain would be a better president than Obama.

So, stupid and lying Bush should be impeached, but even stupider and dishonest Palin is 'wonderful'?!
'Great job' Trump... What a lame attempt to whitewash the loosing McCain team by 'bravely attacking' Bush. But where have you been EARLIER, Trump? You are so 'brave' now, when not to curse Bush is bad taste. Another 'maverick', I guess... :)

    What is the difference?
Impeach this one, and tolerate another 4, or 8 years of the same?
