McCain camp to Obama: Release more information about ACORN

At the final presidential debate, Sen. McCain said ACORN might be destroying the fabric of democracy.
At the final presidential debate, Sen. McCain said ACORN might be destroying the fabric of democracy.

(CNN) – In the wake of an Associated Press report that the FBI is reviewing the results of several state inquiries into the conduct of ACORN, Sen. John McCain’s campaign called Thursday for Sen. Barack Obama to release additional information about the relationship between the embattled community organizing group and the Obama campaign.

“Barack Obama’s campaign must fully disclose the nature of his association with ACORN,” McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement Thursday.

The Obama campaign took issue with the McCain campaign's request. "ACORN never performed any voter registration work for the Obama campaign and Senator McCain’s campaign knows this," the Obama campaign said in an e-mail to CNN. "The real question is why they continue to assert something that isn’t true, and why they believe that attacking a group that Senator McCain himself praised as 'what makes America special' helps their campaign."

CNN has been unable to confirm a report by the Associated Press that the FBI is investigating whether ACORN helped foster voter registration fraud across the country as the presidential election approaches. Instead, several government sources have told CNN that the FBI and the Justice Department are reviewing documents provided by state investigations into ACORN to determine whether there is a basis to open a federal criminal investigation.

These developments at the federal level come nearly a week after six Republicans in the House of Representatives sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey requesting a federal investigation into ACORN’s voter registration activities. All of the House members who signed the letter to Mukasey had previously administered elections as Secretaries of States.

In a statement Thursday, ACORN said that it has not been contacted by any federal law enforcement agencies. "Should any investigation be forthcoming, we are confident that we would be exonerated," the group said. "We have always, and will continue to, work with any inquiry."

Watch: ACORN counters fraud charges

At the final presidential debate, Sen. McCain challenged Sen. Obama to explain his relationship with ACORN, saying the group “is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy." In response, Obama said his only involvement with the group was representing it in a lawsuit against the State of Illinois regarding a motor voter law.  A CNN Fact Check found Obama's claim to be false.

Earlier this week, Obama and senior officials from his campaign both said that the Obama campaign has its own voter registration efforts that are not related to ACORN’s recently completed voter registration drive.

Since the registration drive was recently completed, there have been several press reports of questionable or fraudulent voter registration forms submitted as a result of the drive.

  1. Tired of the tactics

I am done with the McCain camp. Ive changed my vote to Barack Obama.
I was watching this on CNN. this comes down to a couple of thousand faulty registrations. This organization has registered millions of voters and this registering did not just start 6 weeks ago. So we are talking about 1 percent of of these registrations.
Not to mention the people cant vote if they dont have a valid ID.
Who has a Mickey Mouse state- issued ID.
    Lets get serious people.

While we are on the subject of releasing things, Sarah Palin needs to release her emails during her time as governor since she is running on her executive experience. What exactly was she trying to hide by conducting state business on a yahoo account? The American people deserve to know and we deserve a press conference from the VP nominee.

    Obama:
    • Was part of the ACORN community organizing network
    • Its principles are based on the teachings of Saul Alinsky
    • Alinsky wrote about it in two books - Reveille for Radicals and Rules for Radicals.
    • Alinsky’s principles are deeply unethical
    • He teaches, for example, that in politics, the ends justify the means, to seek political power by any means
    • Alinsky taught that ” worldly power has two forms – money and people”
    • Alinsky taught that the organizer’s rule is to “follow the money” is to be taken seriously.
    • Where do the Alinskyian networks get their people and money?
    • The answer is that they get people and money from religious institutions.
    • They teach that institutions must be “evangelized” into “liberationist theory”
    • Before going off to law school in the early 90s, Obama directed ACORN’s partner organization, Project Vote.
    • Meeting with ACORN leaders in November 2007, he said, “I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career.

And McCain needs to make sure that Sarah Palin discloses the full extent of her affiliation with the Alaskan Independence Party, I believe it goes beyond the First Dude's membership in the party of the Christian Exodus. Obama gave money to ACORN, he was not a member or a director. Besides, Obama's OWN campaign has done more for legit voter registration, he does not really NEED ACORN, so stop this McCain. Neither did Obama appoint himself and Ayers to the committees on which they served together. McCain's camp is pulling muscles reaching for this one.
    OBAMA/BIDEN YES WE CAN!

The McCain Campaign should fully disclose Senator McCain's true relationship with ACORN to which he gave a keynote address at one of their functions, Joe the Plumber who is related to Charles Keating, G. Gordon Liddy who is a federal criminal, Saddam Hussein's lobbyists who worked with the head of McCain's transition team, Rick Davis of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac lobbying fame, and on and on.

  11. Republican Supporters in the Dark

What John McCain should be concerned about are the hateful, racist supporters that are being document ON CAMERA saying really ignorant things about Senator Obama, and going down a really, really dangerous path. And by the way at the rate of which their campaign is going, they are worst than the Segregationist who incited people to violence during the civil rights movement. Senator McCain and Gov. Palin YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THIS COUNTRY. You are sowing the seeds of fear into ignorant people and essentially taking this country backward, into a period of American life that is just so dark. John McCain has lost any ounce of integrity that he had after reprimanding a supporter last Friday. He is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As for you Gov. Palin, your ignorance knows no bounds.

I guess they've driven the terrorist bit to it's grave now they think they can do the same thing with ACORN.. any dim wit knows that it is IMPOSSIBLE to have VOTER REGISTERATION FRAUD!!! Yes, some one can retister to vote a hundred times but that person can only show up TO VOTE ONCE... Doesn't the McCain dummies know how this works? I'm sure they will try and have as many democrat votes thrown out as they can. HOPEFULLY THE DEMOCRATS WILL START QUESTIONING THE REPUBLICAN VOTES AS WELL... Since they are so capable of lieing about Senator Obamas history you know they would have no quibble about stealing votes or getting dead people to go vote..

Just go over all the CNN fact checks. Let's look at the ratio of McCain campaign truth vs. misleading vs. false. Compare to Obama's. Conclusion: Obama tells the truth most of the time, McCain lies most of the time.

Let 'em keep throwing red herrings and mud around. Every time the McCain campaign takes this route, they turn off more and more voters. If, as he had pledged, McCain actually ran a decent campaign focused on the issues, he might still be in this thing. But he chose the scumbag route, and now he's paying the price.

  20. facts are facts

The McCain campaign has robocalls going out spewing hate about Obama being a terrorist. Go to the Huffington Post and listen to the calls as they have one there to listen to.

McCain has finally lost what little bit of his mind that was left. Someone is going to get hurt or killed over this hateful pack of lies. The whole world is watching the GOP sink to the bottom.

  22. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree

Obama says he didn't know that Acorn has been involved in fraudulant practices, yet they have been indicted and had this problem in 2002 2004 and 2006, So what are we to conclude about that ?
That this is another case of poor judgement. That he gives Acorn 800,000.00 and does no back ground checks or is completely unaware?
We are supposed to TRUST this kind of Judgement?

  23. Great

More dirty politics, Cnn need to report on Sarah Palin Troopergate, How she got her house built for free, her involvement in AIP this woman is not vetted at all nor is McCain.

But I guess if they get the news media to do all the negative reporting on Obama they won't put their attention on Sarah Palin and McCain.

Acorn has been going on with this for many, many years. But all of a sudden it's Obama's fault. John McCain and his cronnies can't been Obama in the issues so now they are going through the cess pool. People are sick and tired of this foolishness.
