Obama camp targets McCain moment

The Obama campaign is out with a new ad from Wednesday's debate.
The Obama campaign is out with a new ad from Wednesday's debate.

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign is wasting no time in targeting one of John McCain's comments during the third and final debate Wednesday night.

In a new 30-second spot set to air nationally, the Illinois senator's campaign highlights one of the McCain's most emphatic statements of the evening: "Senator Obama, I am not President Bush."

The line was among the strongest of the evening for the Arizona senator, who has long grappled with how to escape the president's shadow.

"True, but you did vote with bush 90 percent of the time." The ad's narrator says. "Tax cuts for big corporations and the wealthy, but almost nothing for the middle-class - same as Bush. Keep spending 10 billion a month in Iraq when our economy struggles? Same as Bush."

The ad also shows some of McCain's more memorable reactions from Wednesday's debates, when the Republican presidential nominee was seen rolling his eyes and sighing.

McCain sure left it too late to try to convince us his not McBush.
He voted 90% off the time for Bush's disastrous Economic, Domestic and Foreign Policies. You might as well be G. Bush.

McCain started to fade about 30 minutes in. If he doesn't have the stamina to make it through a 90 minute debate how, pray tell, does he think he can run this country. I'm amazed that he's been able to keep up on the campaign trail even given the fact that he typically takes weekends off.

The man comes across as if the Presidency was his God-given right, and that this punk (they call Obama) is trying to steal it away.

Just imagine if after all the erratic behavior that we have witnessed over the last few months and he still gets elected, and suddenly he becomes the LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD… just imagine!

Watchign the debates last night made me want to sigh a bit like McCain. I realized how very difficult it would be to have to court McCAin and Palin's energy for the next four years.

THey come across too toxic for me. Their energy is simply too divisive.

I don't care how many times they flash smiles, or wink or give me the thumbs up. THere is something about this campaign of theirs that leaves me very, very concerned.

Haven't seen the commercial, but i think its a good tactic for the next few weeks, show that he 'thinks' hes not, even though he really is. Maybe paint him as worse, since he did lose a primary to Bush

Also, i hope they have a strategy for this Joe the plumer thing. It will be Mccains new platform.

McCain may not be President Bush, but his economic policies are similar. They seem to be geared toward making Cindy richer. If that is appealing to you, vote for John McCain. It's as simple as that.

They've been waiting patiently for McCain to fall right into this trap since the beginning of the general election. If McCain's campaign hadn't taken so long to think of a proper response to say, this commercial would have been out there weeks ago. Yet another example of how Obama's campaign is much more organized and how it is prepared to handle most, if not all, potential outcomes with a quick and efficient response.

Why is no one touting Obama's campaign as one of the best ever in the history of modern presidential politics? He's made virtually all the right moves for the better part of the last two years.

Only in my nightmares does John McCain make it to the White House. His clear contempt for Obama or anyone else that stands in his way of power and glory is disgusting. The tongue snapping, grunting, heavy sighs and rolling of his eyes reminds me of a spoiled rotten teenager with no respect for anyone.

On the other hand, you have Barack Obama who is always calm, collected and intelligent in his responses to what real Americans care about. He has been spot on with the issues and continues to hammer away in his fight for the average American. I will be so proud when he becomes the next POTUS.

That was so fuuny last night when McCain was trying to put Obama on the spot and ask him how much he would fine small businesses or "Joe the Plummer" if he did not provide health coverage to his employees. He was really trying to be a smart allic like he did in the previous debate when he kept saying "I still haven't heard what the fine will be". He kept trying to interupt Obama in the las debate before he could answer that question. Well when he got his answer from Obama last night which was "0" as he put it McCain looked so stupid. Almost shocked. Under Obama's Plan small businesses with be exempt McCain and will actually recieve a credit. Why don't you try reading you might find some of the answers to your questions instead of being rude and laughing while Obama's talking. America's not laughing so why do you think everything is funny. Well actually the look on your face last night was priceless.

Seriously, McCain and Palin seem to be okay people. They're the type of people that I could see having as a neighbor. Have BBQ's and beers. HOWEVER, I do not want my neighbor as my leader. I want a President that can speak grammatically correctly, who can look their opponent in the eyes and say I disagree, who does not roll their eyes when someone else is speaking. These are the types of qualities that have greatly damaged America's reputation in the world. I WANT CHANGE!!!! Who's with me?????
McCain should have run eight years ago, it is not the fault of the American people, but rather the Republican party for putting the wrong man on the ticket (8 years ago)

Anyone watching the debate and seeing the split screen could see McCain's uncomfortable posture and erratic movements along with his lack of patience and sneer expressions. I don't know if it's exhaustion, a medical ailment, or his own normal habits that caused him to jitter and glare so unnaturally, but the net result didn't inspire any confidence for him.

Oh good one. I love how quickly they got this one out. I have to try to see it somewhere. But I would have liked Obama to have thrown a few more punches. But I guess he just wanted McCain to appear rattled as he did. But clearly there were several issues that Obama could have made a stronger point by citing a few more examples and crushing McCain's stance or lack there of. I wish he could have said what all the American people are thinking, NO Palin is not qualified. But his own answer was much more dignify, fitting of our next president. Go Obama. And lets make sure everyone get out to vote no matter how the map has your state going. Get out and vote.

AM I THE ONLY ONE? Who heard John McCain twice refer to Sarah Palin as an "expert" and "no one knows better" about autism? Is he really that unfamiliar with his own running mate, or does he just not know the difference between autism and Down Syndrome? What a buffoon!!

That is how you stop any momentum from building – hit them where they think they succeeded.

The McCain camp did this with Obama's superior intelligence by claiming he was an elitist.

Every voter… no matter who you are supporting should google:
Philip J. Berg esq and Obama.

You need to read about his lawsuit and how Obama and the DNC are trying to hide it from you. This is not an anti-Obama post, this is a serious issue. This is a pro USA post.
    =======================================================

Don't wast your time, it's just another non-story. Obama is a US citizen, born in Hawaii (yes, Hawaii is a state too), and raised in different parts of the world, including Kansas and Indonesia. I take more issue with McCain, who was not born in the US, and should not be allowed to run based on that fact.

I thought that, during the debate, McCain appeared very unpresidential, even childish at times. We don't need a president who rolls his eyes when he disagrees with something a person says.

It is time for us to have a president who displays leadership qualities and is respectful of other people.

Obama should have come back immediately with 'How can you possibly say you're not Bush when you have voted with him 90% of the time'. Also, '4 years ago I wasn't as ready as I am now to run this race'. I think he missed the opportunity but I also think he was the overall winner. 3 for 3. Go Obama!

"I'm not Bush" is a very short term tactic that is successfull but in a few days and in the coming weeks, folks will say... you're just the same as Bush... your own "records" do enforce that... (90%!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The future of much or all of the world is in the hands of the electorate in the U.S. not just the future of Americans.

It is very scary that the polls show 40% of the voters will still vote for John McCain in this election despite a host of reasons why he just simply isn't their best choice.

When you compare the stature, the intellectual level, the temperment and the policies of the two candidates Senator McCain comes in a distant 2nd behind Senator Obama. Then when you add to this the VP selections of each candidate there is every reason for the world to be concerned about Senator McCain's choice of Sara Palin. She is very very scary.

Hopefully in the final analysis of November's election America's voters will make a choice for the benefit of their lives and their country's future without the influence of party affilitation and religious convictions.

If America votes for the welfare of both themselves and their country then the Republican Party will be forced to change their platform to better serve everyone's interests.

I must admit i was leaning away from McCain before the debate, but now i'm set. I wish i could have been McCain last night, I think he held back too much, he shouldn't have just rolled his eyes, he should have ripped Obama apart with some of those economic comments Obama made. McCain will do anything, say anything, to get elected, just like Bush did in 2004.

And like Bush, my gut tells me that McCain will stick to the status quo, as he did 90% of the time siding with Bush, and accomplish nothing.

His promise of a balanced budget in 4 years is ridiculous. How will he pay for the war in Iraq, the bailout, health insurance, buy up every bad mortgage, off shore drilling, etc., all while cutting taxes and making the Bush tax cuts permanent? IT'S NOT POSSIBLE.

    Katie,
What part was weak and lame? The part where John McCain himself proudly proclaims that he's voted with Bush over 90% of the time - even more than most members of the Republican party? That part??

This will now be used as fodder similar to Nixon proudly proclaiming "I am not a crook!!" We all know how well that turned out, too.
Between the facial contortions and slack jawed expression during the "zero" fine segment of the debate, it was just priceless.

The McCain Palin ticket continues to deliver major hits on the unintentional comedy scale - you just can't make this stuff up if you try.

Well, can you imagine Putin sitting across from McCain, and McCain offering up one of those wide-eyed expressions after some "serious" discussion? Can you say Poker Face? Not only was Senator McCain angry, bitter, confused and wrong (on so many points), he clearly looked like the less presidential candidate. Scolding Senator Obama about Free Trade, is hardly the way to have a discussion. My way or the highway is not the leadership that Americans need at this crucial time.
Near the end of the debate, McCain changed the subject so many times it was difficult to know what points he wanted to get across. In sales, they call that spraying and praying, you just hope that your customer finds something to resonate with. It is not very effective and it is used by sales people that are unable to build a relationship with their customers. They don't last very long in the sales game.

I was completely confused when McCain refered to "Joe the plumber" as RICH. Where was that coming from? Obama had completely defended his tax plan for small businesses and McCain had nowhere to go. To bring up the subject again, in this fashion, was desperation at its finest.

Read Fact-Check on ACORN, figure this out people. If there truly was something unworthy of Obama there, it would have been played out more that it has been. There's nothing in it.

We just had our federal election, and met another minority government. Good thing, as the Conservative / Republican policies can not run unchecked for another term. Not the result I hoped for, but I am still crossing my fingers for an Obama/Biden result in the US of A.

"Know the Truth", I know about Phil Berg. His "firm" is his residence in Lafayette Hill. (That's just outside Philadelphia.) I'm also in the defense counsel circle...Berg is seen a nutcase and the court is not happy with this baseless suit clogging up it's already overloaded civil docket. It's likely to get dismissed via a defense summary judgment motion. Thus far, there are no issues of fact for a jury to decide...just baseless and unsubstantiated allegations.

Three reasons for McCain not to be president:
    1. Health care – That was McCain's Exhibit A – that he is out of touch. I can tell from experience, a person with pre-existing conditions, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get coverage for any amount, let alone for $5000 per family. What planet is he on?
    2. His body language during debate when he does not like something. If he can't carry on a civil debate with a fellow colleague and an American, how is he going to deal with world leaders? McCain should not be anywhere near a button that lights up weapons.
    3. Last, but not least, his VP pick.

I wonder many times, how many of those uninsured or unemployed/uninsured people are Republicans? How many stayed Republicans, after a period, when things got tougher and their government did not come to their aid?

A poster who calls himself "Know the truth" says we should all google "Philip J. Berg esq and Obama" to read about "a serious issue" that "Obama and the DNC are trying to hide."

    Well, l did google it.

And I found the same discredited claim that Obama is ineligible to be POTUS because he was not born in the USA that we have been seeing for months. (It apparently doesn't matter to Mr. "Know the truth" that factcheck.org has verified the authenticity of Obama's Hawaii birth certificate.) Nut-job Philip Berg also claims the US government was behind 911.

    Give me a break!

No matter how hard McCain tries he comes off as having a temper and a very angry man. He didn't behave as much of a thug as he did in the first debate, but no one wants a person with his temperment dealing with our friends and enemies on a international basis. That requires calm and a thinking mans demeanor, not a hot head which is the feeling one gets watching McCain as he rolled his eyes, sighed, and instead of showing respect he oozed distain and a inability to deal in an open friendly manner. McCain should finish his term in the Senate and go happily or crabbily into retirement.

Saying McCain is somehow Bush shows the obsurdity and ignorance of Hussien Obama, who's career and life is pillared by confirmed terrorists and racists, and his blind sheep who will follow him to certain poverty and medocrity on the world stage.

THis isn't American Idol, you socialist idiots, this is American and Obama's actions as an American are repulsive. John McCain is the only man for the job.

In the days leading up to this debate, McCain was baited by Obama and Biden into his approach during the debate. It was very smart for the Obama campaign and a lack of vision for the McCain Campaign. McCain came off looking angry, frustrated, and ranting. Someone in his campaign should have told him that there would be a spilt screen and to keep his gestures in check. They also should have tested the position of his lapel mike because it picked up every sound he made while Senator Obama spoke and it was very noticeable and irritating. Between the Grunting, sighing, eye rolling, scary stares he looked kind of crazy at times and about to blow his top the next. Saturday Night Live will have a field day with this debate.

McCain's facial expressions showed his anger, frustration, disgust and dislike of Obama. He also lied when he said Obama's ads were more negative than his. Her is the one who started the more negative ads and of course, Obama had to respond.

He might as well give up and realize that his choice of Palin was the first mistake he made. She is just not qualified to step up to the plate if something (God forbid) were to happen to him. The only thing she did was to rally the base. The second mistake he made was when he lost his cool, suspended his campaign and ran off to Washington and achieved absolutely nothing and the third thing is the negative campaign he has run. Independents do not like this and I think and hope that Obama will win this election

So, I looked up the Phillip Berg lawsuit and I can only say I'm disappointed how much time the Republican Party has spent on attempting to portray Senator Obama as a foreigner. First, Senator Obama is a US CITIZEN! Secondly, for the Republican Party to attempt to cast a negative light on those who have immigrated to our country is shameful. It is the same type of nationalist/isolationist sentiment that led to the persecution of the Irish, Italian, Arabs, and many other ethnic/religious groups who have come to our shores. I believe their actions are deplorable and individuals who propogate their hate through chain emails/weblinks should be held accountable.

All is fair in politics... I had an oppotunity to view the ad this morning and I thought it was both clever and strategic. The facts were sufficiently stated and who can deny that the multiple facial expressions and gestures of McCain? It fit together as a hand in glove. It's the same game the republicans have been playing all these years, this time it was a different player. They would take a positive of their opponent and spin it into a negative in order to make their case. Obama has proved that you don't have to be nasty in order to be effective. Take note! Way to go!!!!

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, two years after it became a state. Interestingly, John McCain was born on a U.S. military base in Panama, so if anyone would be ineligible to run (though neither of them are), it would be him.

This garbage spread by "Know the truth" and others on the internet is exactly why we have to fight every single baseless smear with truth. This is due to the fact that his only "message" is clearly to get elected. He will most likely be the "victor" on November 11th which will undoubtedly create extreme liberal mania in Washington. Of course, McCain is not Bush. No body disputes that. Bush is a different person physically. We select a president not for the person but for his leadership and policies. If McCain wanted to be different in that aspect he would not have sided with Bush 90% of the time. If he truely wanted to different direction for the country, he would have confronted Bush to fight for a new direction. Instead, he went alone with partlines except for few instance. That is not true leadership. Now he talks about different direction because he want to be in the white house.

McCain is a hott head which is obvious given last night's debate. Although, he did better in this last debate then in the previous two,McCain also showed that he in an angry attack dog. No wonder why so many people at his rallies are filled with anger and hate. Look at their canidate. McCain gives out those vibes and that is exactly what he attracts to his rallies. And that is very scary. Does anyone remember the line "Well if senator Obama had done like I asked him to, we wouldn't see many negitive ads"...... What???? OK McCain so now your trying to bully someone if doing what you want them to do??? No one has mention the statement above or reflected on it and I believe it was a highly(one of many) disrespectful statements coming from McCain's mouth. And McCain don't expect an apology from Obama for another person exercising his right of freedom of speech by stating an opinion. If you want an apology, you speak with the person who made the comment. Obama is not his representative.

Know the truth...how about posting the truth.

Truth...Obama was born in Hawaii a state in the USA.
Truth...At the time Kenya was a British colony and his father was therefore a British citizen.
Truth...Obama has never renounced his American Citizenship and has never pledge an oath of allegiance to Kenya.
Truth...Obama's Kenyan citizenship ended in the 1980's.

If this was a truly pro USA post...it would stop trying to disqualify a candidate that has proven themselves time and again, endured horrible accusations and name calling, and has risen to the challenge time and again.

McCain wants to be President too badly, and for the wrong reasons it seems.
It is too much about him, everything out of his mouth is "I", "me".
I don't get why he is putting himself through this, but he caved to the GOP and Bush after 2000. He thought that was what he needed to do to win.
The reasons McCain will never be President is because he is not very smart and is too emotional.

Now, 95 percent of the people in America will receive more money under my plan because they will receive not only their present benefits, which may be taxed, which will be taxed, but then you add $5,000 onto it, except for those people who have the gold-plated Cadillac insurance policies that have to do with cosmetic surgery and transplants and all of those kinds of things. John McCain, 15 Oct. 2008.

Three years ago I received a liver transplants through the grace of God, a donor who gave me the gift of life, support from my family and friends, and the medical profession dedicated to saving lives. This is the ultimate insult to all organ recipients, deceased donors, and those who have offered to be organ donors. If he meant to say "implants" would this eliminate Cindy McPlastic??? Either way, he should apologize to America for this statement or for his senility in not being able to say what he means or BOTH!!!!.

McCain's body language is not something he has much control over. His injuries cause him to look like he is stiff all the time. For you to even think body language matters is stupid. What about Obama's smirks and laughing when nothing funny was said? Does that not tell you that he thinks everyone else is dumb and he is the only one with a brain? McCain didn't say one thing last night that wasn't worth hearing. It was all relevant. Just not to Obama, the god. I can't wait to hear his 30 minute sermon on the mount!

Ok, Googled it. Not a anti Obama post? The first three returns were from Obamacrimes.com. No, not "anti-Obama" at all!
    From Fact check.org-

FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

  235. An honest American businessman

Both my parents were democrats. Both were lifetime civil servants of the US government. I grew up on a dead end street. worked my way through college. I did not take a vacation for ten years. I worked 18 hour days and saturdays for over 20 years. At the age of 53 I am very successfully financially and still at work at 6:15 am daily.

The top 25% of wage earners pay 85% of ALL taxes in the united states. the top 1% of wage earners, which is my category, (finally after being in business 30 years), pay nearly 40% of all taxes in this country. i might add this top 25% also are the most benevolent contributors to our society.

Obama wants to raise my taxes upwards of 50%. he has put no limit yet on how high he will raise payroll taxes…let me tell u my fellow americans, if I am working for the government 6 months out of the year…iIwill not work. i will fish and play golf. and the 20 plus employees that work for me will join the growing list of unemployed.

I have numerous individuals approach me on a weekly basis asking for “loans.” 99% of the time their problems are self induced. they are not working, not showing up for work, living in a house they cannot afford, driving a vehicle they cannot afford, watching cable tv with all the add ons, 3-4 cell phones in the household. give me a break america. you tax this business man…any more…and i, like many many of my cohorts…will sit on the sideline..and releash employees. You think the economy is bad now. raise the taxes again. and see.

McCain has never been like Bush. He's always bucked his own party. But people are gullible and believe anything that comes out of Obama's mouth. Its sickening. (and YES, I'm a Democrat. I'm just not a gullible Democrat). I see it this way....people want to believe that things will get better. So here comes Mr. Obama...he spews the words "hope" and "change" and everyone falls for it because they WANT to believe in it so badly. Obama is nothing more than a mascot. A hope mascot. Sure, he's inspiring when he speaks, but look at his record....inspiration is all he's got! And newsflash folks...inspiration doesn't fix the economy, inspiration doesn't create jobs, inspiration doesn't end wars, inspiration doesn't fix health care.

Are we really going to vote in the most inexperienced, unqualified candidate to ever be put on a major party ticket, during a time of war and recession???????????????? I mean really folks??? What are you thinking?

Actually, its quite clear that Obama is actually more like Pres Bush than McCain would be. Obama's answer to everything is spend more, spend more, spend more, while McCain wants to reform. I think it's clear that McCain is ready to change the country, while Senator Government's idea of "change" is spend, spend, spend, oh, and spread the wealth to the 40% of Americans who pay no taxes anyway. Not right.

Funny how mindless liberals think that body language is all of the sudden a big deal during a debate. Back in 2000 it didn't seem to matter all that much.

Also funny that mindless liberals AND the main stream media are neglecting to mention Obama's body language when he disagreed with McCain and how he'd constantly interrupt him. VERY presidential indeed. I'd have more respect for liberals in this country if they weren't such hypocrites, or if they had at least some substances to their beliefs.

McCain is trying to get you all to see the truth about Obama. Other than McCain the only news outlets talking about the truth are Rush, FOX News, and Hannity. The Main Stream Media is well-aware of the Afro-centric Marxist underpinnings of the Obama candidacy. But they love it, and will continue to push their agenda. I urge everyone to get into the Blogs on the ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and CBS websites and SHOUT IT OUT! Make as much noise as you can...and pray like hell...

Tony: Grow up. CNN has never touted the scoring of their 6 member panels after the debates, but they allow Republicans like Castellanos, who scored Obama higher in the first 2 debates, to blabber about how McCain really won them. That's just the way it works and deserves eye-rolling, not accusations of bias.

It's really pathetic that the Republicans are latching onto errant claims of bias. The facts aren't biased just because they don't support your position. This has been the Republican party's problem for well over 8 years now: if the facts aren't supporting their position they either ignore them, pretend they don't exist, claim bias or fabricate new ones (or some combination of the above). We're just plain sick of it...you'd think the FACT that McCain is losing horribly right now would clue you in to that.

I saw the ad this morning and it's great. Uses McCain's words against him. Brilliant.

All McCain has going for him is his race. That's the only reason the few people who do vote for him, will vote for him because anyone in their right mind (no pun intended) would see Obama is the better choice by far.

The new add is good when looking at comparison to voting with bush. In refrence to running negative adds, i think McCain camp has ran the most negative. Not only does John McCain mimic Bush's policies – he's got that same smug, arrogant, demeaning attitude towards anyone who disagrees with him.

John McCain has sold his soul to win this election – and his radical Republican base are the only voters excited about what he's offering.

Palin – go back to Alaska and explain yourself to those constituents. They seem to be turning on you.

McCain – go back to the Senate and explain to your colleagues that you simply lost your mind to your blind ambition...

The cry of the truly desperate: "I don't know about that birth certificate of Obama's..."

Stupid. It has been examined over & over. There is absolutely no doubt that he was born in the U.S.

So please, shut up & grow up. You have to face the fact that your opinion about Sen. Obama is the minority opinion. Most people in this country do not agree with you or McCain. Most people do not think Palin is qualified. Most people do want Sen. Obama to be the next president.

Respect our country, honor our laws and consitution. Comments like yours that question Obama's citizenship, patriotism, etc. make you and similar others appear very unpatriotic and like 5 year old brats that are sore losers.
