Rival consultant now working alongside McCain campaign

Warren Tompkins, standing, is a veteran GOP strategist.

NEW YORK (CNN) - Warren Tompkins, the hard-hitting South Carolina Republican consultant who worked against John McCain during the state’s vicious primary battle in 2000, is now toiling in North Carolina alongside McCain’s campaign on behalf of the Republican National Committee, according to sources.

Tompkins has been working in the state for two weeks, participating in conference calls and traveling up from South Carolina for meetings, said one southern GOP operative.

A McCain campaign official said that Tompkins is volunteering for the campaign, doing so through the RNC, but that he has only been in the state for “a few days.”

The presidential race in North Carolina has tightened in recent weeks, and CNN has moved the reliably red state into the “toss-up” category. The state’s down-ballot Republican candidates - Senator Elizabeth Dole and gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory - are also in tough races.

“He is working for the RNC, so therefore coordinating with all the campaigns,” the operative said of Tompkins. “It’s the final few weeks of a campaign and you need people with experience, and frankly there are not many people in the southeast with near the experience that he has.”

Tompkins, known for hardball tactics, has long been accused of orchestrating a smear campaign against McCain in 2000, but he has never been formally linked to any of the attacks carried out against the Arizona senator. The Columbia-based strategist was a senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s primary campaign in South Carolina last year.

The McCain official said Tompkins was just one of many Republicans coming on board to help the McCain campaign in its final weeks.

“We’re deploying hundreds of political operatives to the battleground states,” the official said.

Why is it Obama says, I will not raise your taxes and you call him a lie? John McCain says I will not raise your taxes and you believe him. Is this a white thing? Don't give me the welfare B. S. you hate the man because he is half black if he was a whole white man you would be knee deep in his behine.

We followed a STRICT diet of 8 years of the ELEPHANT's plan. A plan on peanuts. It caused STOMACH AND HEART ACHES and the ECONOMY threw up, in all our faces.

It's time to change the diet to a more healthy menu.

Obama said. “It only goes to people who work and who are already getting taxed on their paycheck. Let me repeat this I’m not giving tax cuts to folks who don’t work, I’m giving tax cuts to people who do work.”

Why not ?!. All the idiots around him now are the same people who attacked him in 2000. One more idiot will not make a difference.

I was going to vote McCain in the primary for his moderate stand, but I have seen him change his views to win the primary, change his views in selecting a VP, change his views on the economy. He just a week ago said he wanted to help some by buying bad mortgages from banks. This is so unlike John mcCain. It looks like he will say and or do anything to win. He underestimated Obama, and thought that his name and his POW time would be a "shoe in" not to mention the "race" factor. Fear won't work. Lies won't work. Obama will win.

McCain is getting a daily portion of humble pie as his anger over the South Carolina "John McCain fathered a black child out of wedlock" push-poll from Karl Rove in 2000 must still be a raw wound. He wants to be President _that_ badly. Too bad he has absolutely no ideas - which come to think of it makes Palin the perfect choice for the VP spot.

It plays well to see some people finally getting some sense of what is right with McCain and what is wrong with Obama.
No more taxes please and let's not redistribute the wealth and if we do, lets just redistribute the wealth of Obama, Biden and their wealthy friends, which I am sure there are plenty of.

The "man" behind the robocalls! I put man in quotation marks because I think a real MAN doesn't hide behind lies, distortions and putting himself before his country.

Just like the GOP to turn around and embrace the same people who threw tons of mud at them!

Is there no level that the Republican spin machine can stoop?

A CNN report on Lou Dobbs' TV show describes in detail the voter fraud by Acorn. For example in Philadelphia Acorn has registered more than 10,000 fake registrations. Now since most of these registrations are in low-income mostly African-American areas, which vote more than 90% for Obama, he is stealing the election in front of our eyes.

We democrats should not forget the lessons of 2000 and stealing elections. A stolen election is what got us George Bush and not Al Gore. Now Obama is doing the same thing by stealing this 2008 election. Sad day for America.

    No way, No how NObama.

Man, these people have no integrity. Anyone heard the phrase "you have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything"? Well, looks like the GOP, McCain and Palin, as well as those republicans running for state/federal offices will fall for anything and use anyone to get their way. I am afraid of a ticket that uses, abuses, lies, and divides.

Considering these are the final days of this mess one should guess McCain is going to beg and plead with every underhanded con man he can find, to do anything they can, just to get him elected. I am still amazed there are people who would vote for this old relic. He has sold his soul, tried to sell his wife, would, I'm sure, sell Sarah, (no matter how much he praises her) and all his morals, (if he had any), just to be elected. His whole ambition, his whole life, has been to reach a rank in his mind, that is higher in public esteem then his father or grandfathers was. His arrogance is simply astounding. His temper tantrums are comparable to a 2 year old and his lieing, lieing, lieing, is amazing in its depth and yet, there are people who would still vote for this person who has let his life dwindle down to this shallow person who now DEMANDS we vote him into to the office of the most powerful person on earth... Well Mr McCain, you did not get my vote nor my husbands, nor the rest of our family. Even those who have always voted republican have voted for Senator Obama.... We all think its time you went home to Arizona and sent Sarah back to where she belongs.....

McCain and Palin would be hard-pressed to define socialism. It's merely code for another derogatory and vile word for an African-American. Next we will be told that Obama and Biden are communists in league with the Castro brothers; we will all be trampled to death by the millions of Cubans coming ashore in Florida. McCain earned my respect as a military officer and POW. He lost my respect as a pandering, no morals politician.
