Powell endorses Barack Obama

Powell endorsed Obama Sunday.
Powell endorsed Obama Sunday.

(CNN) – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat's "ability to inspire" and the "inclusive nature of his campaign."

"I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I'll be voting for Sen. Barack Obama," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Powell said he was concerned about what he characterized as a recent negative turn of Republican candidate Sen. John McCain's campaign, such as the campaign's attempts to tie Obama to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.

Powell, a retired U.S. general and a Republican, was once seen as a possible presidential candidate himself.

Wow, I just gained a lot of respect for Powell. Thank you sir for speaking your mind and not just blindly following the republicans.

McCain's campaign will now throw a lot of mud at Powell. I'm loosing respect for McCain faster than the DOW has been dropping in the past several weeks! All the hate, divisiveness, it's crazy!

I really respect the thoughtful and insightful way Colin Powell went about making his decision and how he explained both the strengths and weaknesses of both candidates and how that went about making this momentous decision. Thank you for talking about the best interest of America.

This is a key endorsement for Obama and big set back to McCain as he (Powell) was the one who made the case to go to war on Iraq in UN.

Like anyone would have thought anything else. 1 more Black man voting for another. Still won't help while Obama is starting to drop in the polls. Colin Powell showed his outstanding knowledge about world affairs when he was lying to the world about W.M.D.'s . Lets get this straight 1st they have them but we can't find them. A really good endorsement !

Duh, Powell is black-who did you think he would endorse?

Not to mention he was the weakest general ever in the Army.

  12. Colin Powell is fabulous!

I am thrilled at Colin Powell's decision to endorse Barack. I watched Meet The Press and he gave a very insightful, deep explanation why.
Some will say it is because of his race, I believe it is because Barack appeals to our better angels, our desire to be better, to aspire to a better place and to have a leader with intelligence, a steady hand and the wisdom to call on people such as Powell for his service. I pray Powell would accept a cabinet position in the Obama campaign. In short I am thrilled!

What a wonderful moment for the Obama camp. Colin Powell is a man to be respected, and it's nice to see that he's embodying the message of bi-partisanship in his actions.

Colin Powell, unlike John McCain, is an authentic American hero; one who rightly deserves the respect of his fellow Americans. The fact that he served a Republican administration speaks volumes to the importance of this endorsement.
When even his fellow Republicans, especially those in positions of power, don't trust John McCain to run the country, then why should we ?

Let the hate comments begin from the repub's. I just got a call from a friend who was on the fence between the two candidates and she stated that Powell has made up her mind and is voting for Obama!! Her husband is voting for Mccain. This is a man that loves Colin Powell but know is saying that he "never liked him". I mean wake up people this is a serious election and serious times in our country we need a good man to get us out of this and that man is Obama. Powell sees this and is doing what is best for the country. I know some folks will say because Powell is black that he endorsed Obama that is not true. He endorsed him for the reasons he stated!

Let's unite and do what we know is best for the country and vote for Obama. Early voting starts in Texas tomorrow and I am casting my vote early. Get out and vote people it's too important. We need to say to the repub's not this time, not anymore!!!
