Palin and McCain disagree on a federal gay marriage ban.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) — Add one more policy item to the list of things John McCain and Sarah Palin disagree on.

Palin told CBN’s David Brody over the weekend that she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a proposal John McCain voted against in 2004. McCain believes the matter should be left to the states.

Brody asked Palin if she supports “something like” an amendment banning gay marriage.

“I am,” Palin said. “In my own, state, I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that's where we would go because I don't support gay marriage.

“I'm not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can't do, should and should not do,” she said. “But I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that's casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it's the foundation of our society is that strong family and that's based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.”

McCain and Palin disagree on a number of issues, including stem cell research, whether or not global warming is man-made, and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

In the past, McCain has joked away any policy differences between the two running mates.

“By the way, you may figure out from time to time, Sarah and I don’t agree on every issue,” McCain said at a joint town hall last month in Michigan. “What do you expect of two mavericks, to agree on everything? Eh?”

She is for state rights when it comes to abortion (wants to take down Roe v Wade) yet she wants the feds to decide when it comes to gay marriage rights? She is not a "federalist" as she says….she really doesn't make any sense and she would wreck our country.

nhcountryboyz   October 20th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Sarah Palin has proved to be a hilariously-entertaining and potent one-woman Get-Out-The-Obama-Vote machine: every time she demonstrates her narrow-minded knucklehead ideas she adds to the Obama/Biden victory margin. You go, girl!!!!!!! (Back to Juneau, I mean.)

Sheldon the Wonder Horse   October 20th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Maybe she could use the word "that" a little more so her comments make even less sense.

ek   October 20th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Seems like Sarah Palin is laying the groundwork for her own run for national office by trying to separate herself from the McCain campaign. Great selection there, John.

'Anti-American' Maryland   October 20th, 2008 10:34 am ET

They certainly do disagree a lot don't they?
And also…since when is McCain pro-life? I thought I remembered him being pro-choice back when I actually liked him because he was a totally different person.

I just want this all to be over. I'm so sick of listening to the both of these clowns.

Obama-Biden '08. GET OUT AND VOTE!!!

Hmm. I guess if he had vetted her properly, this wouldn't be an issue….because he wouldn't have selected her.

Next thing you know someone will write an amendment to ban all marriages of those who happen to be part of the evangelical movement (not sure movement is an accurate description). This is precisely the problem with McFlipper and Palin. Neither can see that diminishing the consititution sets the stage for their rights being tampered with. This selective morality needs to stop.

I hope Nov 4 comes soon, so I don't have to listen to these two idiots.
One is a joe plummer and the other is ja oe the six packer.
Can you imagine how low the bar is for these two in a presidential elections?
One is going to loose his honour, credibility and the other loosing her seat for governor
McOld did not put the country first. He put himself first, and McMoose put herself first .
Good riddens to both.
Vote for Obama & Biden.

Mrs. Obama discussed her party's socialist plans for America with a group of women in Harrisburg, NC.:
"Most Americans", she said, "don't want much. They don't want the whole pie," she told the women."There are some who do, but most Americans feel blessed just being able to thrive a little bit."
This from a socialist who made $4.2 million last year. What a hypocrite.

Jen   October 20th, 2008 10:33 am ET

I wonder what her imaginary gay friend has to say about that?

Cyrus K.   October 20th, 2008 10:32 am ET

This is the same woman who lied in her interview with Couric, stating that she is not the person who would impose rules on the lives of others.

The "sanctity of marriage" argument is as outdated as creationism, and these nut cases need to stop denying equal rights to others, regardless of their sexual orientation.

gregor   October 20th, 2008 10:32 am ET

Hi, this is from germany, an external view and comment on the american election:
I like america, have been there several times and think it´s a great country. But if you´re really going to make Sarah Palin a vice president the only possible interpretation would be: a whole nation (or at least half of it) went nuts.
I don´t agree with McCain on most issues but he is electable in some way, but Palin ….?

Please don´t do it, It won´t be a joke, it would be a deseaster, not just for america.

i just wish some editor would have proof read the statement made by Palin so it could be translated into English. what happened with the run on sentence? also, who cares about what other people do in their own homes? how does it really affect anyone else? because we have to see it? so what, get over it.

CR in WI   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Isn't that a flip flop from her debate position? I remember her mentioning she had friends of all backgrounds, inferring that she had some homosexual friends.

She is also in favor of a federal law requiring a witch doctor in every district. . . .

Alissa in Kansas   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I was already against this ticket even if for no other reason than this. She wants to choose what my legal rights and status are with my partner? NO WAY! She's got no right to do so! Nor would I ever let someone try to put legal pressure on me.

CJ form Portland   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Two risky "mavricks" trying to run the Country… I don't think so. That's like giving a 5 year old a loaded gun and hoping for the best. NO WAY NO HOW NO PALIN? MCCAIN…whoops MCCAIN/PALIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

nelson   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Oops! Not another disagreement. Who is running this ticket? If he gets the white house, will she undermine him? Will she go behind his back with a different agenda. This country needs solidity in its leadership. Sorry Folks, but it isn't on this ticket.

gustav   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I agree with Palin when it comes to the traditional marriage being between a man and a woman, even animals know that. Have u ever seen a she-goat mating with a she-goat?
The family is the foundation of a society. Lets not destroy it because of politics.
I disagree with McCain and Palin when they say Obama's tax cut is Socialist. Then is McCain's plan to buy bad mortgages not socialists? Why is he planning to save those who didn't plan their finances well?
This is for the conservatives:I think Obama is more of a good Christian than you think. He loves GOD.

ANGIE   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Sara Palin wants to make us UN AMERICAN Like her AIP friends in Alaska this womans Quest should scare the crap out of you!

R, Ohio   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

This maverick garbage is getting out of hand. If they can't agree on a number of issues, how exactly do they plan to work together for the greater good of the country? Also, I am sick of Palin and the rest of the conservatives working tirelessly to push their issues and agendas on us. Palin is right to have an OPINION, but that does not mean that her views are those that should be put into law.

pamela   October 20th, 2008 10:31 am ET

So you say you won't judge people's choices in life partner, but you would enact federal legislation to deny them those choices. How would a constitutional amendment against same sex marriage NOT be an explicit, manifest judgement against that choice?

Elizabeth in Illinois   October 20th, 2008 10:30 am ET

So, the Queen of the Run-on Sentence wants the States to determine a woman's right to abortion, but a constitutional amendment to stop gay marriage? Yeah, right. That makes no sense.

And she can't seem to understand that our current progressive tax system is EXACTLY what she defines as "socialist".

Democrat from Arizona   October 20th, 2008 10:30 am ET

“I'm not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can't do, should and should not do,”

If this woman had a brain cell it would be very very lonely.

D hub   October 20th, 2008 10:29 am ET

it is clear that this woman is on a constant power trip. You can tell already that she thinks in her own mind that she is running for president and if ever thrown into that position she will force and push her creationist beliefs on the country. HOW COULD AMERICANS EVER VOTE FOR THIS TICKET!!!!!!!…. were the 42% of american backing mccain frozen in a cryogenic chamber for the past 8 years????? I just don't understand how this is happening. I agree with tina fey, "if mccain and palin are elected I am leaving earth!"

grahame   October 20th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Ya Know .There's not enough love in this world. Nobody can argue with that. So if two people want to signify their commitment to one another by taking marrage vows then I'm all for it. Palin is against it because it looks good and gets votes. Well when you go back to Alaska Sarah you can set you watch back 40 years. everywhere else in the world we welcome loveing people whatever gender they are.

Ex-mod-GOP for Obama   October 20th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Sorry, Gov. Palin — I fail to see how allowing two people who love each other to marry poses any threat to society. My ("traditional") marriage is, if anything, made stronger by the government not interfering in the matter.

Ann from MD   October 20th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Reminds me of that interview Sarah did where she basically said she 'tolerates' homosexuals. Sorry, but as a proud member of the gay/lesbian community I can't tolerate a woman who is obviously homophobic and intolerant of those who are different than her. Someone should also inform her that being gay is NOT a choice. I was born this way, and I'm not going to let a bunch of extreme right-wingers tell me it's wrong to be myself.

jsd   October 20th, 2008 10:28 am ET

Note the "because" clause she offers in support of this federal ban: "I wish on a federal level that that's where we would go because I don't support gay marriage." Thanks, Governor, for that rare glimpse into your complex rationale. Forgive me, I'm having some trouble getting from the premise to the conclusion. I seem to recall some folks a while back who didn't support women's suffrage, or black suffrage, or the emancipation of slaves, and some these days who don't support the second amendment. Seems like we're missing something in-between in the inference.

JK   October 20th, 2008 10:28 am ET

How can the republicans tolerate someone (i.e Palin) who has such disdain for federalism? The republican ticket really is incoherent. I used to consider myself more aligned with the republicans, but I can't even tell what that means anymore. So far, I can glean that republicans favor more big, federal government rules and more big spending. Interesting – and scary, seeing as Ms. Big Government herself wants to **expand** the power of the VP to preach – and impose – her far-from-mainstream religious views.

The democrat ticket seems like the only sensible one to support this time around – even for Joe the Plumber and everyone like him.

This is one issue on which I see eye-to-eye with Sarah.

Unfortunately, America's problems today do not revolve around this one issue of gay marriage.

Sorry, Sarah, but John McCain gambled when he picked you, and that's not maverick; that's lack of visionary leadership on his part.

Some compare your limited executive experience with Obama's limited national political experience, but Obama had to prove himself from a field of nine Democratic contenders over a period of 19 months. That he could have beaten Hillary Clinton meant he was his own man. You have not done anything yet to prove you are your own woman.

McCain should have picked Mitt Romney and Obama would have had his work made more difficult.

Catholic-mom-4-OBAMA   October 20th, 2008 10:27 am ET

DUH. McCain and Palin need their base to elect them! They will DO and SAY anything to get into the White House.

Palin is not qualified, polling shows that she is not 'ready' nor to THINKING Americans want another George W. Bush!

Palin has been spewing hate and division throughout our Nation, we have had enough of this for the last 8 years!

Bruce   October 20th, 2008 10:27 am ET

Palin needs to understand that GAY MARRIAGE is not going to weaken TRADITIONAL Marriage. It is just a way to allow two people that have decided to devote their lives together to enjoy the same rights as other married couples. Tax breaks, and hospital visitation to name just a few.

This will also reduce the claim that Gays are promiscuous as they will be bonded together just like other couples and not running around as they are accused of doing.

Texas for Obama   October 20th, 2008 10:27 am ET

As a Christian, I cannot support gay marriage either, but I do NOT think the federal governement should have a right to tell people what to do.

The GOP thinks that all Christians have a duty to support them, but I would rather be more like Jesus. Tolerance, understanding and forgiveness are the best traits to have in a true Christian life. Giving people choices does not mean that you approve of their actions.

Sue in MI   October 20th, 2008 10:27 am ET

Good luck, Republicans. just kidding. vote obama.

Scared American   October 20th, 2008 10:26 am ET

The Constitution should only be amended to give rights and not take them away.

Normally, I don't care about social issues because each person should be able to govern their own private lives but this possible administration scares me. Should McCain and Palin be elected they will force their ideology on America in regard to Gay Marriage and Abortion without listening to the voice of the people.

While I don't agree with much that Sen. McCain has spoke of recently, I do agree with him that there should not be an amended to the Constitution to define marriage, it should be left to the state level. This seems to be more double-speak for Palin – on one hand she decries too much government but if it is a topic on which she definitely has opinion of, then it's all for the government to take control of. Wake up America – this ticket is NO GOOD FOR AMERICANS!!!! We need to quit the divisional politics. Go Barack.

She sounds like Amedenejah, he does not believe there are any gay people in Iran. She probably believes there are no gay people in Alaska, therefore there should be no gay people allowed in America, just like we should only allow pro-American parts of the country to speak up, and that the anti-Americans are all over congress and should be investigated and the non "real-Virgini[ans]", well they don't count either. So who's next on thier list, might as well say it, all non white christians right?

Mickie in PA   October 20th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Rob   October 20th, 2008 10:24 am ET

She is a piece of work. "Marriage is between one woman and one man.."……and occasionally that man's business partners, right?

I never understood why people like her feel so threatened by the thought of two gay people getting married. Nobody would force her to get a gay marriage. What is the problem? She can't be worried that gay people would tarnish the sancity of marriage when she's been unfaithful herself.

Palin's thought processes are an understandable result of having her head buried in snow for the past 44 years.

Palin is clearly breaking ranks with the McCain campaign and trying to position herself as the Republican base's future leader/candidate. She has given all that she's going to give to McCain and is now making the transition to self (political) preservation.

I don't really know if Sarah Palin knows which side she is supposed to be on……it seems to me that McCain and her are pulling in different directions….so much for McCain knowing SO much about her.
The McCain campaign has been all over the map anyway…..I don't think either of them really know what is going on anymore and are just floundering and making speeches without knowing what the other one really feels about it.
Well,it will soon be coming to an end and thank goodness for that… this has been the most disgusting campaign from the McCain camp and neither McCain or Palin can come away from it feeling proud of how they have conducted themselves

I can't wait to read the Log Cabin's (the national group of Gay Repuplicans) response to this news. I am constantly amazed how some people want to put their head in the sand and pretend that the Republican Party welcomes diversity. GET REAL!!!!!!

It's 2008, and with all the information available exposing the Republican Party's homophobia, inciting racial tension at their political rallys (using code words) and outright discrimination against people who don't look like them, tolerance is just not going to happen anytime soon since the Republican Party has been taken over by the Religious Right, bigots and the "holier than thou" fanatics.

A house divided can't stand, and definitely can't run the country.

Amy   October 20th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Let me get this straight…

She says, "I'm not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can't do, should and should not do," but she does support changing our constitution to ban these individuals from marrying?

She is too small minded, too judgmental, too divisive for our country.

Obama/Biden 08 for all!

Republican Supporters in the Dark   October 20th, 2008 10:17 am ET

This is one of two things that I actually agree with Sarah Palin on (agree & Sarah Palin in one sentence – WOW!) The other is abortion. However, as a reformed Republican supporter (I no longer support them), I believe that they have been using both these issues as a wedge and to get out the value voters & evangelicals. Some are genuine but they are mostly hypocrites and they are very hateful, bigotted, intolerant and do more harm than good by causing division in this country. There are ways of going about expressing your views or standing up for what you believe in without being judgmental and downright hateful. That is not Christ-like. And as a Christian I really cannot continue to align myself with people who at times are so filled will anger and bitterness and even racism. That to me is what the Republican party has come to represent, and that is really sad.

Luis, Seattle, WA   October 20th, 2008 10:17 am ET

Very interesting on one side of her mouth she says she does not want to seat in judgement and tell people what to do; however, on the other hand she supports and FEDERAL constitutional ammendment to make sure that people are told by law who not not marry. Hiprocritical at best.
I thought a true republican wants less intrusion on the Federal Goverment in our daily lives…is that is not an intrusion then what?

JohnLee   October 20th, 2008 10:17 am ET

So in the debate you made it appear you were cozy with gays and now you're saying you think they are less than humans? Which is it Palin? Are you just as erratic as your running mate? I so hope the voters of this country see through you and your running mate because if not, this country will be unrecognizable.

Chris from STL   October 20th, 2008 10:17 am ET

Palin is actually running for president rather than vp. She is working hard because she like many other americans thinks McCain's health will fail and she will become the president. Why else would this lady, who claim to be so religious, forget that lying is a sin.

Obama/Biden 08

Phantastek   October 20th, 2008 10:15 am ET

Ummm.. all those "that's", were they said like that or that the way that she said that so many times that you put that where that was said by that I mean …. that's allot of that's!

Me thinks Palin is not all THAT!!!

Thomas   October 20th, 2008 10:14 am ET

She wants to amend the Constitution to exclude those whom she feels don't fit her narrow contruct of a "good American". This gives me a shudder! Can we tolerate opening this door? Who else then would be excluded? This in an ominous warning about who this woman really is. She has no grasp of what she is saying. She is a dangerous loose cannon.

Neal   October 20th, 2008 10:14 am ET

This woman is so clearly not ready to govern.
What does she mean she's not going to be judging people, just stating her opinion?
When you're a political leader your opinion becomes law, which becomes institutionalized judgment.
American cannot afford another vapid politician in the White House.

Elizabeth - Texas - Former Republican   October 20th, 2008 10:14 am ET

What do they agree on? It looks like McCain is always under the Straight Talk Express.

Umm… should it be… a Palin/Mccain ticket?
Sounds like dissension among the ranks to me.

RIF   October 20th, 2008 10:13 am ET

Reading quotes from Palin makes my head hurt. I have to read them 3 or 4 times before I can even begin to understand what it is she is trying to say. I would advise the media to just give us a summary of what she says instead of making our heads explode tryinng to read direct quotes. This lady is dangerous.

JACKED-UP-POLITICS, FLORIDA   October 20th, 2008 10:13 am ET

THere will be a lot that they disagree on and unfortunately she will not be in a position to really challenge him.

Fritz   October 20th, 2008 10:13 am ET

Palin and McCain are playing the game of "we don't agree with each other on this so you agree with one of us so vote for us" on many of these issues and even on robocalls. They really want it both ways – they want to engage in disgusting politics but then say "I didn't wanna have to". Sounds like McCain with his "I would not have ran such a nasty campaign if Obama had agreed to the town halls." If this is how McCain and Palin are behaving now, just imagine how awful they will be running the country.

Linda32   October 20th, 2008 10:13 am ET

Sounds like Palin's preparing for her next gig because she knows they aren't going to win.

AshevilleVoter   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

America, throughout her history, has expanded rights and freedoms rather than taken them away — voting rights for Blacks and women, ability to own property by Blacks and women, & marriage rights for interracial couples to name a few. Marriage for gays should follow suit. If a religion, denomination, or church choose not to bless a gay union by prosiding over the ceremony, that is there choice. But to prevent a couple from getting a state issued marriage license is ridiculous. You get it from the court house just like you get your driver's license from the DMV — it's a legal document and should have nothing to with whether not a religion or church is okay with it.

cindy   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

It's not a big deal that McCain Palin disagree …. the problem is …. Palin's ideas are reichtwinged.

Palin wants government to dictate what a female crime victim can and can't do.

Palin wants government to dictate restriction of scientific research that could actually benefit her own infant.

Palin's husband is so radical he belonged to an anti-American group for 7 years – AIP.

Palin has no clue…. about much … except maybe witchdoctors. WHAT kind of country would this become IF something happened to McCain & she became Pres?

Chuck   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

Palin, You are trying to take away the rights of law abiding American citizens, who pay taxes, vote in elections, raise children, working as doctors, nurses, fire fighters, policemen, iron workers, and practically every single occupation in this country. Yes America, the republican party would let you think that there are just a few of us in America. Well, if Gays and Lesbians were accepted in this society like they are in other progressive societies, the American public would be shocked at the numbers of homosexual citizens in this country, Including some Evangelical leaders, (although they are "healed" shortly after they are caught) and religious leaders of all faiths. The only difference with you is you are doing it strictly from a Religious Evangelical factor which teaches hatred and intolerance by anybody who doesn't agree with you and your beliefs. That is called a dictatorship. Given the choice, socialism sounds alot better than dictator.

Arizona Dem   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

She is just talking jibberish just like that Socialism crap.

meridithl   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

Interesting ms. Palin… so…. Regarding abortion, Roe v. Wade should be overturned because such matters should be decided by the states…

but the federal gov't should decide on who and who can't get married and it should be taken out of the state's hands…
Ahh, i love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning…

Chrystal Durham,NC   October 20th, 2008 10:12 am ET

This disagreement doesn't suprise me. They disagree on quite a few issues including robocalls. Imagine what will happen if they were elected. They can not control the campaign so we know the lobbyist will control thw White House. McCain has lacked leadership during his campaign not staying true to his "BRAND".

Palin is being used as a puppet, the way the McCain camp has used her is disrespectful to her natural strength and back fire on her political career. Although I support OBAMA/BIDEN I feel as a woman she is not doing herself justice especially for a future career. I expect for her to run in 4 years for President. My prediction is that she will definitely be true to herself showing herself absent of the pagent response set forth by the MCCaim campaign. This campaign has painted her as an uneducated, small town, gun carrying maverick reformer. She is the next generation for the Repubs however, her first impression to the national stage has been damaged by the McCain campaign.

Palin will have to reinvent herself after this election. History will leave in print a story she may not want to remember when she looks in the rear view mirror of this experience. The McCain camp in no way resembles the John McCain that wanted to join the Dems 4 years ago when GB and the Repubs told McCain to talk to the hand.

I find it ironic that Palin thinks government should stop intervening in citizen's lives…..except when it comes to financial bailouts and same sex marriage. Pick a Lane, Palin! You can't have it both ways.

nina   October 20th, 2008 10:11 am ET

It is okay to disagree, but these are core major issues.

Maybe McCain should've vetted his running mate. I certainly wouldn't choose a person, whom I "heard" about, who's "popular", to take care of my children, only meeting them once, maybe twice.
Why in the world would he pick someone to take charge of a whole country using this as a requirement???

Anyone? And why can no one, I mean no one, ever explain why she would make a great VP or potential POTUS? Yah, she was a mayor, is a govenor. But no one including Palin herself, ever explains in detail what her ideas are on running a country. Instead, they bring up Obama.
Well, Obama always answers questions, has in-depth and detailed answers on every major issue, thus far, that I've heard. He actually has a grasp of what's going on in the world near and abroad.
Haven't heard anything from Palin, and it's 15 days til the election.
Wake up People.
And get out and vote. Don't take the polls for granted. The only way Obama will win, is if everyone, I mean everyone who wants him to win, actually goes out and votes. So do it. Show what your made of. Show your support by voting.

Victoria   October 20th, 2008 10:10 am ET

So "traditional" must be accepted because it's the status quo??We had a "traditional" banking system where it was run by the private sector. Apparently we needed to make some changes there? Even if it's not "traditional" that the gov't owns the bank?

Just another example of complete lack of logic/ reasoning ability.

sabuc for Obama   October 20th, 2008 10:10 am ET

I think Jeff, OR has it right. Let's collectively hold the thought of Sarah Palin as President close at hand forever. No Palin – not now – not 2012 – not ever.

Rickymo   October 20th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Amending the constitution is a serious issue and even many conservatives who are against marriage equality oppose this. She is so out of touch with everyone including the right wing loons of her party that the fact that she could be one heart attack close to the Presidency should be enough to scare everyone.

Joel   October 20th, 2008 10:09 am ET

To put it in Sarah Palin's vernacular…

If a straight feller has the right to get taken to the cleaners by his ex, I figure a gay feller ought to have the same right.

Jeff   October 20th, 2008 10:09 am ET

She said she opposed gay marriage and changing the definetion of a marriage; one man and one women. This is old news she stated that in the debate. Now did she openly oppose legal unions for gays, giving them the same legal rights that a hetreosexual couple would have? Or did CNN just decide to not report that far?

McCain and Palin should stay out of people's bedrooms. The federal government cannot manage national affairs so it has no business telling people how to lead their personal lives. Whenever it tried, it has failed.

David in Minneapolis   October 20th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Party Crasher   October 20th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Let me see if I got this straight. If you do not let two gay people marry then they will no longer be gay? What difference does it make? Will the walk down the street holding hands if they are married, oh, that's right they do that anyway.

Gay marriage and abortions are one in the same, if you as an individual do not believe in it then don't do it. Mind your own business and live your own life. Your are not going to stop anyone that is gay from being gay and you are not going to stop any woman that wants or needs to have an abortion from having one.

If you truely believe that its against your religion then let GOD handle it. I don't remember anyone being given the power to step in for GOD and act on his behalf.

Justice 4 All   October 20th, 2008 10:04 am ET

Why didn't someone in the McCain/Palin camp educate Palin about McCain's policies, and that of the Republican party. More and more it appears that she is running her own campaign. She has no clue. McCain's choice of Palin shows bad judgement, gambling tendencies, and a lack of respect for intelligent women.

Denying the right of fellow human beings. And she calls herself a christian. What else don't we know about her "views". I'm glad she feel so free to speak with 16 days to go hopefully she will put both feet in that big mouth and destroy any chance at a run for the first chair in 2012. Proper vetting might have brought these disagreements to light, rather than choosing the anatomically correct running mate.

Alan   October 20th, 2008 10:03 am ET

That-a-girl Sarah – you just keep hitting those ridiculous hot-button social issues to get the right wing wackos out to vote. If "Joe the plumber" or "Joe Sixpack" actually voted for what's in their own best interest, there's no way the Republicans would have a snowball's chance. Their only hope is to distract average ordinary Americans with red herrings like gay marriage, abortion, and lies about Obama taxing "hard working" Americans.

By the way, if you actually look at Obama's plan, he's not going to be taxing "average hard working Americans". He'll be taxing those blood sucking corporate CEOs who make millions of dollars while their companies go belly up and beg for handouts from the US taxpayers.

What would you rather have? Your money go to pay for child care for a single mom so she can get a decent job (or go to school and get some training) or to go AIG to pay for managers to have spa treatments at a retreat?

Michael L, Houston   October 20th, 2008 10:01 am ET

one of the reasons they are losing this thing… thank god.. or whoever you pray to… is that they've NEVER had a consistent message.

we've gone from fearless war hero… to EXPERIENCE and ready to lead on foreign policy… to CHANGE (that was funny) to Maverick reformers.. who think the economy is great… to Mav reformers who think its in trouble.. to Joe the Plumbers (who really only makes 40k.. works for the company he wants to buy and thinks he can maybe make 250k.. and is back on his taxes.. lol)

only 2 weeks to go… wonder what he's gonna be this week. Erratic I think. An angry Erratic old man… like in the debate.

Its disgusting and they are disgraceful. I hope for McCain's sake that he drags himself out of the muck and ends his campaign (and likely his political career) gracefully, as the happy warrior he seems to enjoy being most.

That said, no way, no how, no McCain-Palin! We are almost there!!!

Jeff, OR   October 20th, 2008 10:00 am ET

Funny how Palin is throwing McCain under the bus so much these days. It looks like with their candidate so far behind, the Republican Party is already grooming his successor for election in 2012.

What a horrifying thought. I know some people love her, but she's far right, polarizing, and divisive. I also think she needs experience outside of Alaska to understand national (let alone global) issues.

Our Constitution is our foundation, it began flawed but has gotten better over the years. This is NOT something that we should include in it. I am not gay but I do believe that consenting adults should have the right to be with another consenting adult of their choosing.

You do not — I repeat do not — put amendments like this in the federal constitution. Our founding fathers would despise such a thing. At the very worst, it is a state issue.

Sarah Palin is very extreme and, honestly, a bit dangerous.

This is yet another reason why they make a great team. It is well documented fact that Biden changed so many things he belives is just to run with Obama. The president will have a LOT of "yes men" around him, the VP must not be one of them. Biden has run for President more than once, he is drooling to be in that office and knows that Obama is so green he can sway his decisions to Biden's agenda. So many reasons to be scared of an Obama/Biden ticket and this is yet another reason.

New Jersey - I Guess Im from the "Anti-American" part of the Country as Palin put it.   October 20th, 2008 9:49 am ET

"But I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that's casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it's the foundation of our society is that strong family and that's based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.”

So making your Pregnat daughter get married because she is underage and pregnat is what you call protecting marriage?? REALLY???

Thats why you have clown makeup on. The guy doing your makeup hates you!

Sarah Palin during her debate with Joe Biden, said that her family is diverse in terms of homosexuals and hetrosexuals and there are some disagreements between them.
Who is the gay in her family? I think i know the answer.

These two are dangerous…and they are getting more and more desperate.
Anyone notice that she is disagreeing moer and more with McCain…is she tyring to distance herlself from him?
WHo is running this campaign?

Gracie   October 20th, 2008 9:49 am ET

BRAVO….. Sarah Palin's the GIFT that just keeps giving. LOL. AND Americans wonder why Johnny is losing big time. His own Pitt Bull keeps turing on him and biting him in the butt. Amazing.

Kish from Britain   October 20th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Carl   October 20th, 2008 9:48 am ET

We can only hope that you never again obtain enough power to do that. There is NO reason the government should interject so much religion into our country that has separation of church and state. Go back to Alaska.

Spencer/Commonwealth of Virginia   October 20th, 2008 9:48 am ET

These two out of touch whackos don't agree on alot. Which is why I do not support them. McCain has his views on some policies and she disagrees with alot of them. If something were to happen to McCain, I do not believe she'll continue policies that she disagreed with McCain on. That's scary.
