Clinton backers by her side, Palin makes pitch to women voters

Gov. Palin appealed to women voters in Nevada Tuesday.

Gov. Palin appealed to women voters in Nevada Tuesday.

HENDERSON, Nevada (CNN) - Flanked by a quintet of former Hillary Clinton supporters, Sarah Palin on Tuesday made her most direct appeal to female voters since kicking off her vice presidential campaign in August.

With polls showing Palin's unfavorable ratings among women rising over the last month, the Alaska governor looked to tap into any lingering tensions left over from the drawn-out Democratic primary battle - a fight that left many Clinton supporters disappointed.

"Our opponents think that they have the women's vote all locked up, which is a little presumptuous," Palin said. "Little presumptuous, since only our side has a woman on the ticket."

"You've got to ask yourself, why was Senator Hillary Clinton not even vetted by the Obama campaign? Why did it take 24 years, an entire generation from the time Geraldine Ferraro made her pioneering bid, until the next time that a woman was asked to join a national ticket?"

Palin spoke glowingly of Clinton in the early days of her campaign, but mentions of the New York senator elicited boos from her heavily-Republican crowds. She soon dropped the references from her stump speech.

On Tuesday, the Republican vice presidential nominee continued to attack Obama's tax plan, arguing that his plan to raise takes on wealthier Americans will stifle the earning power of working women.

"Women want the same opportunities as men," she said. "And they're entitled to the same rewards. See, the point here, the point here is that women would suffer just as much from the massive tax increase that Senator Obama proposes."

Palin knocked Obama for supporting equal pay on the campaign trail while paying his female senate staffers, on average, lower salaries than the men in his office. Female staffers in Obama's Senate office earn 83 cents to every dollar earned by male staffers, while McCain's female Senate staffers, on average, earn more.

"Does he think that the women aren't working as hard?," Palin asked. "Does he think that they are 17 percent less productive?"

The statistics cited by Palin, however, do not account for the fact that McCain's office currently has more women in higher-paying senior positions than does Obama's office, thereby driving up the average female salary among McCain staffers. The Obama team has said the situation is a different on the Democrat's presidential campaign, where many of his top advisors are women.

The governor was joined onstage by former Clinton supporters Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Prameela Bartholomeusz, Linda Klinge, Shelly Mandel and Elaine Lafferty, all of whom applauded as Palin criticized Obama.

True Hillary backers yea right. If they were really for Hillary then they wouldn't be standing with Palin because Palin doesn't stand for any thing Hillary stands for. She has said that over and over again. So Sarah did these women suddenly become PRO-AMERICANS since they are standing by you?

So women should be sexist and vote for you based on your sex? Isn't that just as bad as not voting for someone based on their sex? Desperation at its finest...

    Oh Please !

Mc Cain Voted nearly 40 times against equal pay for women & Minimum wage increases.

Palin wants the Government to take away Womens Rights to terminate a pregnancy.. Even if that Pregnancy is the result of Gang Rape... 😦
Even if the father is the rapist of the Teen mother.
Even if the father carries a know genetic mental illness or disease that will effect the quality of life for the unborn infant..
She makes Alaskan Rape Victims pay for their own rape kit ..?

Come on Palin give it a break....She is talking out of both sides of her mouth. Saying that the dems think the woman's vote is locked up...while at the same time implying that women should vote for her simiply because she is a woman...no other rationale. I am a man but I think women are intelligent enough to see through the retoric and realize that yes, it is great to have a woman in such a powerful position but they would like to have a qualified woman in that position...not you Caribou Barbie. Please disappear after this election back to Alaska. Your whole selection by John McCain was to appeal to woman, thinking that all Hillary supporters would run to your side of the ticket...but it backfired horribly because you are giving all future women running for that position a bad name. There were and are many better options for VP. You are about 265,345 on my most qualified list.

Not vetted and not asked, she deserved to be asked. She has sure been good enough to be asked to work and campaign for Obama, Been wondering if anything has been done about her debt? We are yet to hear all the dirt that happened to her during this run. Women had a chance to be counted and heard but they turned their backs on a woman who's views are identical to the man that they are now voting for. So much for sister hood! Gender was definitely not a factor proving once again that one woman can't count on another for nothing!

Would somebody please tell Sarah Palin the Earth rotates around the Sun .
She still thinks the Sun rotates around the Earth .
People like herself are such obstacles for progress .

This Lady is in a dangers state of denial !
The more and more I hear her speak , the more she sounds like Miss America, a contestant on American idol, and a candidate for stare search.

  12. Chicken Little's Hardhat Company

The Republicans will kick and scream and foam at the mouth and flop on the floor screaming that Colin Powell is only going to vote for Obama because he is black. Here is Sarah Palin overtly asking women to vote for their ticket just because their ticket is the only one with a woman.

Just imagine what the Republicans would say if Barack Obama stood up and said "Ours is the only ticket with an African American on it, and for that reason, you African Americans should vote for me."

    Absolutely hypocritical.

  13. Independent Female Voter

Republicans, wonder why Barack is raising so much money? Because every time this woman opens her mouth something stupid comes out. I am a strong woman who does not want this woman representing me. She is down right repulsive, divisive, and arrogant. She can't even hold a match to Hilary, a woman who is the epitomy of intelligence and grace. I guess she can still see Russia from her backyard. Better yet, Sarah go home and see about your daughter who is going to give birth to your grandchild soon.

  14. DUUUUH!!!! NOW YOU WANT THEM

    NICE ONE THERE GOV.

BUT THAT TRAIN ALREADY LEFT THE STATION A WHILE BACK WHEN TOLD WOMEN:

THEY DON'T DESERVE EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK.

THEY DON'T HAVE RIGHTS TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISION ON THE UTERUS.

ALSO WHEN YOU STOP MENTIONING HILARY CLINTONS NAME AT YOUR RALLIES AFTER YOU WERE "BOOED" BY YOUR PRO REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE CROWD.

SO STOP INSULTING EVERYONE INTELLIGENCE AND GO OUT AND FIND SOME MORE PRO AMERICA AREAS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

BUT DON'T INCLUDE YOUR STATE OF ALASKA IN YOUR SEARCH.

BECAUSE REMEMBER, THEY WANT TO BE THEY'RE OWN SEPARATE INDEPENDENT COUNTRY.

REMEMBER SARAH, YOUR HUSBAND TODD IS AN ACTIVE MEMBER A.I.G (Alaska independent party)

  17. Serious Voter

I would never vote for this woman because she does not hold a light to Sen Clinton. She doesn't even know what the job of the vice president entails. This woman is a joke...especially when she opens her mouth. By the way, I'm a woman.

Palin is no Hillary Clinton and most have quickly realised this- all of a sudden Palin is being released to the media first stop SNL before CNN. Thanks to an innocent "Joe the Plumber" the Mccain/Palin campaign attempts to "talk "about the economy. All they are talking about is Obama's plans as they have none of their own. Luckily Joe is now getting his back taxes paid.

  19. A smart woman NOT Sarah Palin

We do want a woman president and hopefully she will be about a million times smarter than Sarah Palin.

This vile woman does NOT represent me or the women I know. We are pro-choice, well educated, clear spoken, truth telling women. Get a life Palin. You're nothing but a backwards, pentecostal, lying, un-Christian, power abusing creep.

  21. No McCain/No Palin

This is Sarah Palin, abuse of Power in Alaska.

Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.

and secondly, she does not even know the role of a VP

OMG, how stupid can one be, is this what you want in the White House....please think people, do not be deceived with her lies

Uh, why did it take the republican party 100 plus years to put a woman on the ticket, ma'am????

Maybe cuz there are a lot of GOP men that like to use or abuse women verbally, but have no respect for them back in those smoke filled rooms– 😦

Palin has been dishonest, abused her powers and was unethical.

Today its been reported that Palin charged Alaska to pay for her family when they went with her on trips. Even when not invited. I wished I could get my company to pay for my family to join me on my business trips!!!

Oh give me a break! How any woman in her right mind that supported Hillary Clinton would turn and support this woman is beyond believable! She is the fundemental opposite of Hillary and would turn women's rights back 30 years! Been there – done that – No Way McCain/Palin!

Five Hillary supporters who support Palin. That's probably all there are. Gender is all that Palin has in common with Hillary Clinton.
