Palin apologizes for patriot 'pro-America areas' comment

Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment.

Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment.

(CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin apologized Tuesday for any misunderstanding that resulted when she referred last week to the patriotic values of "the real America" and the "pro-America areas of this great nation."

Democrats and others immediately criticized Palin, alleging she was saying that some part of the country are more patriotic than others.

Palin denied that was her intention in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

Speaking at a fund-raiser in North Carolina, the Alaska governor said: "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

Palin also said Tuesday that Sen. Joe Biden's comment that as president, Sen. Barack Obama would face an international crisis within six months of taking office points to the dangers of electing a relatively inexperienced person.

"We need to thank Joe for the warning," Palin told CNN's Drew Griffin.

She made similar comments earlier Tuesday at a rally in Reno, Nevada.

At a fundraiser Sunday night, Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, said that after taking office, "it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. ... We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

His point, according to an Obama-Biden statement issued later, was that "we need steady leadership in tumultuous times, not ... the stubborn ideology of John McCain."

Palin should get off the patriotic kick since her hubby was and probably still is a member of the Alaska Independence Party. She has supported them and given speeches at their rallies. As far as thanking Biden for the warning, she needs to remember that Charlie Black and Joe Lieberman, two McCain supporters and campaign advisers, said early in the general election that an attack on American soil would help McCain win the election and that a world crisis would be good for the McCain campaign.

My grandmother taught me long time ago that what comes up out of the mouth comes from the heart and once you have spoken words, its a little difficult to take back.

I have no doubt in my mind as to what Palin and others meant by their repeated remarks about "real America." Wake up folks, we are no longer living in the 30's, 40's, 50's or 60's. Whether some want to see the diversity shaping this nation or not, diversity will rule in the future. Many of our thoughts and feelings are not embedded in us as they were in our ancestors. America has no right to SHOVE DEMOCRACY down the throats of other countries, when there is still so much HATRED still alive and well in America. Thanks to the political war, that Hatred reared its ugly head. Now we as a nation must deal with it and let the old timers know that we will not tolerate this absurd set of behaviors anymore.

Well fortunately for her, she won't be coming to Washington, you know, the heart of Anti-America.

Did she also say that we need John McCain to come to Washington to fix it? Where was he the last 26 years???? I know he loves to separate himself from congress, but he has been here all along....

I am sick of people slamming her for saying the VP is in charge of the senate. Per our constitution the VP is the president of the senate!

"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided.

The Senate shall choose their other officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the office of President of the United States. "

As you can see above, if the VP is in the senate session, they are at that time president of the senate!

Aw shucks, Sarah. I thought we could trust you to always tell the truth. And since you have always tried to unite people in a positive way, this is shocking!

And Joe, if you read the whole sentence, is right, but what he should have said was that 'America' will be tested. He was talking to folks as if Obama was President, thus the context of his statements.

Hindsight is 20/20... the fact is that Palin has always had that small town mentality, that someone Joe six-pack from Wasilla is more patriotic that someone living in a big city.. or anyone who identifies themselves as liberal or progressive.

I wonder which "area" I live in?

Clearly–she's lamely attempting to target the flag waving but blind and deaf.

Like Murtha another fine example of just the kind of politicians we "do not" want representing us in Washington.

The full Biden quote includes this last sentence. "They, re going to want to test him and they're going to find out this guys got steel in his spine." Last night CNN and everyother news organization failed to include the full quotation. May of us remember how the media let Bush savage Gore with the innacurate, "I invented the internet". Please do not let this happen again.
