Palin apologizes for patriot 'pro-America areas' comment

Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment.

Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment.

(CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin apologized Tuesday for any misunderstanding that resulted when she referred last week to the patriotic values of "the real America" and the "pro-America areas of this great nation."

Democrats and others immediately criticized Palin, alleging she was saying that some part of the country are more patriotic than others.

Palin denied that was her intention in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

Speaking at a fund-raiser in North Carolina, the Alaska governor said: "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

Palin also said Tuesday that Sen. Joe Biden's comment that as president, Sen. Barack Obama would face an international crisis within six months of taking office points to the dangers of electing a relatively inexperienced person.

"We need to thank Joe for the warning," Palin told CNN's Drew Griffin.

She made similar comments earlier Tuesday at a rally in Reno, Nevada.

At a fundraiser Sunday night, Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, said that after taking office, "it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. ... We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

His point, according to an Obama-Biden statement issued later, was that "we need steady leadership in tumultuous times, not ... the stubborn ideology of John McCain."

    To the Palin's Puppies;
Get a life! She is inexperienced, obnoxious, and has foot in mouth disease. She is just riding the McCain train so she can get her little annoying voice onto the Mainland America. Please keep her in Russia where she belongs...oops Alaska!

As an old Southern woman, I well understand the innuendos in this area. The comment is anti-black,gay,Democratic. If Ms. Palin were blonde(another slam) I might understand her ignorance. As she is not, I believe she is the GOP attack dog, indeed. As we say in the Deep South, bless her pitiful soul.

Why is it that nearly everything she says has to come with a disclaimer and/or apology?? I'm sick and tired of "what I meant to say was..." coming out of the McCain/Palin campaign. As the President/VP, you should just SAY WHAT YOU MEAN!

Why is it that a great segment of Americans did not see it that way? Only a trickster would try and scream foul at the drop of a hat. The scream is fake, and intentionaly to decieve. Its the Democrats who are the ones who are making the fatal mistake in thinking they can decieve the Truth. It will come down on them like the silver hammer on their head. Their enemy is the Truth itself, not Mrs.Palin or Mr.McCain. As long as Mrs.Palin and Mr.McCain call out for Goliath to come out and show his FACE, the rest will take care of itself.

"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

Then please do tell exactly what you mean. Second, don't qualify your apology which shifts the fault to the listeners for "misunderstanding" what you said. If you are sorry, say your are sorry.

This a good lady who got caught in a horrible mess and asked to do things that she would not normally do.

Although McCain tried to use her only because she was a “women”...in the end she will be ok! – while McCain will have to live with his old and discarded values of how decent women/people are treated.

Obama – with going to see his grandmother when she is ill – is TRUE sign of family and TRUE respect for the women who love us and tolerate us….women rule!

Funny how people here point to Sarah Palin's lack of experience when she actually has more experience than Barack Obama. Oh, but she's missing that vital body part.

    Apology Not Accepted!
If this were the first time she said something like this...and if a number of GOPs were not spewing the same divisive hate I might find this apology sincere, but she has repeated this theme for the last 7 weeks, beginning with her speech at the convention.
Sarah, you don't mean it, and we don't want to hear it.
