So Democratic Representative Jefferson gets caught with $90,000 in his freezer and nothing happens to him but Stevens, a Republican, gets convicted in court for basically the same thing. whay is there a double standard? Maybe because the congress is run by Democrats? Stevens deserves what he gets but so should Jefferson and the rest of the crooks in Washington without regard to party.

I hope he dies in prison. He is a prime example of why the country, the economy, the environment, our own government and our standing in the world are so diminished. He doesnt make enough money being in the senate so he has to get freebies, and in exchange for what? He wasnt on trial for any of his voting record or things he might have been a part of outside the representation of the people of his state.
We will never know just how corrupt this turd was or what postions of the government he might have influenced. I do know that 30 years ago we had the same problems with oil companies and foreign oil and not one thing has changed since then. He was there the whole time. He would have gotten the guillotine if he lived during the French revolution. Dying in prison is way more than he deserves.

Stevens and people like him should not only be forced to pay everything back ten fold, but also serve time in prison. Any government employee that accepts gifts over a certain amount would go to prison, pay a high fine, and never be able to work for the government or anywhere a security clearance is required.

I don't even believe politicians should be able to accept campaign contributions either since they are nothing more than gifts. Look at McCain, Obama, Biden, Palen, Clinton, and all the rest that ran for president and vice president. The state or federal government pays them a salary and they spend the whole year campaigning instead of doing a job.

As a government employee I would love to campaign for myself at government expense, instead I would be fired.

With a possible sentence of 5 years on each charge, does he make small ice cubes out of big ones? I do not think so. Given his age, I would consider his expulsion from the Senate, a fine not to exceed 1.5 times the estimated cost of repairs and upgrades to his home and supervised probation for 5 years. Senator Stevens should furthered be ordered not to seek to be elected to or appointed to any public office for life.
