Makes sense the polls need to be open later especially in northern Virginia since so much of the population would have trouble getting back from work by 7 when polls would normally close

What does Tim Kaine's political affiliation have to do with his reporting of the news. Surely most of you (Hopeful and Ashley) are turning in religiously to Fox News who are clearly RNC supporters, but I'm sure that doesn't keep you from changing the channel. Truth is truth, the "real" VA is attempting to make voters feel distraught and turn away. Clearly. Not about who's reporting the news.

If you care little enough about voting to let a long line stop you, good riddance. If you can't handle standing in line for awhile there's a real good chance you didn't put in the effort to responsibly educate yourself on history and issues so that you actually understand the choices you're making beyond the drive-thru partisan hackery and the microwave-for-2-minutes politics of the media age. Thousands of people have died in the past 2+ centuries to give you the right to stand in line. Grow up and quit being such a bunch of crybabies.

It is so disheartening to see and hear of all the irregularities in the electorial system.
To say that it's the greatest and most democratic country in the world and have a system that is heard of only in third world countries is apalling.
With all the wealth in technology and resourses it is difficult to imagine that there are so many discrepancies with Machines and ballots. All the wealth of experience in conducting Elections over so many years it's hard to imagine that today it cannot be conducted without so many flaws and voter fraud.
Is there going to be controversy each time elections are held? And to think that representatives are sent to other countries to conduct and examine their elections. How long will this go on for the sake of democracy?

I see a discriminatory charge in the article with absolutely no explanation what-so-ever of how any race is being discriminated against because they may have to wait in a line to vote. I realize it is the NAACP so it's quite obvious what race is "claiming" to be discriminated against, but based off this article, I'm not getting how. Is this article badly written, or did the lawsuit not give any better details?

"Here we go", what do you mean already threatening their CIVL RIGHTS have been violated? This is common sense. If you know a tornado or hurricane is coming you prepare for the surge. It's the human thing to do. When there are record registrants voting this year, there is a avalanche politically/democratically coming and it is a RIGHT that should be protected for ALL citizens period. Asking for your basic right to be acknowledged is NOT a THREAT its a RIGHT. I don't know why this is even going to court. It's a no brainer but all you hear are these election 'irregularities' with the system that officials are ill equiped to handle. This is the real violation here. Not all the other mumble jumble about ACORN. Where is this Zimbabwe? FIX IT.

In case VA is close, Obama and his campaign are already thinking of a way to cry discrimination. This whole campaign has been about not saying anything negative about a black man running for President.
Any negative comment is considered racism. CNN please post this unless you're in Obama's camp too.

hurriCAIn PALIN, is voting for Obama going to be like the regret you have for voting for Bush and then having 9/11 happen on his watch, followed by a botched war in Iraq, then a disastrous Katrina, and finally the worst economic crisis since the great depression?? Anything like that? Because if Obama even remotely resembles that...then you shouldn't be too upset voting for him.

Obama seems to be taking a page from the G 'W' Bush 2000 election plus chapters from his 2004 slam

Geez, hasn't Obama had his surrogates, Reid, Pelosi and Dean phone this one in about 20 months ago before they started slamming Hillary?

If Obama wins, America loses. If McCain wins, what our fathers, mothers, teachers and employers over our lifetimes ...in that EXPERIENCE and proven leadership does matter..

People, Listen to our Children - grow up Bloggers, and the best self proclaimed news organization in the country - CNN - While voters might love Obama, we hate our leadership, media and the way every 4 yrs, our constitutional right to vote is STOLEN.

Listen to our Children and all of us PRAY that some day soon - one person, one vote will count once again. I'm for a constitutional amendment modification is allowing free speech to all of those except CNN, Reid, Dean and Pelosi who believed that Hillary should be silenced and a intellectual man, only 143 days in office with 191 'present' votes should win the highest office in the land

I'll pray that some day the likes of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or pray he lives in infamy - T. Boone Pickens or Mr. Bershire Hathway listens to our children and runs for the Presidency of the United States

It is pitiful that a nation that considers itself the bastion of democracy has such pathetic election procedures. There are plenty of Western countries that manage their elections professionally and without scandal.

Why not turn to Canada or England, for example, to learn how to conduct elections. American election procedures are worse than in some third-world countries! It's insane.

I hope they open up more election precincts. That would help things run much more smoothly without line congestions that would jeopardize voters' voices.

Ask any political science professor.

It's just very difficult to prove.

Besides, why would any Republican argue in favor of long lines? Unless you're trying to supress votes, you would not mind having many polling booths.

speaking of whiny babies, those McCain supporters.......lordy i can hear them now, throwing a big whiny temper-tantrum when Obama wins. But, i guess it will be okay because they sure did give me a hard time about my whining over the pointless war in Iraq, the terrible treatment of our troops, the mismanagement of one of our nations worst natural disasters, the tax-cuts for the wealthy while my family struggles, the alienation of the entire muslim world for no intelligent reason ($$$), the lying to and manipulation through fear-mongering of our citizens, and wah-wah-wah, i could go on forever about the failures of the GOP, but i'll just suck it up and be happy that change is finally here to save our great nation. if you support the GOP please don't be bitter and hateful when Obama takes office. we all just want peace and happiness, and a good life for our children.

The NAACP is trying to figure out how to turn a total of 13 million blacks eligible to vote into 40 million. They will get it done. We'll probably find out after the election that blacks now outnumber whites in this country.

okay what is going on here? why have we not seemed to learn in this country when it comes to holding elections, more so after 2000 and 2004, I for one am tired of reading about the problems in this election. Time for a national ID system for all citizens, which then can me used to vote in elections, not need to registered, you use your National ID as being eligible to vote in an election.

State government must do everything possible to avoid this election being settled in court. No matter which side you are on, we must admit that the Florida 2000 mess didn't help our country. We must make sure everyone can vote quickly and easily.

hopefully when the dems get into office one of their top priorities will be cleaning up this election process and keeping thing like florida 2000 and ohio 2004 from happening any more, we can't keep allowing republicans to purge 10's of thousands of voters from states that they're afraid to lose in.

If he pulls it out, it will most likely be thanks to the help of the American people rigging the voting machines.

And, yeah, if the polling places are arranged so that there are significantly fewer in black neighborhoods than in white, I'd say that was adequate reason for question.

I'm white, and if McCain wins this one, I'll be right in their hollering about MY civil rights being violated.

i really don't understand why these people won't just put more voting machines out. they knew this election was going to wtiness ridiculous turnout and still they did nothing to prepare for it. it's just criminal.

DEAR VIRGINIA GOVERNOR TIM KAINE. HERE IS A SUGGESTION TO YOUR STATE'S LOOMING 2008 GENERAL ELECTION DEBACLE.

In rich counties like Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax where the district precincts seems to always have enough working voting machines and the voters get in and out with ease; try letting voters from poorer districts with fewer working machines have access to those machines to cast their votes.

This is done a couple ways. Either generate a supplemental voting access list where voters from crowded districts can gain access to voting machines in other districts; or just move some of the voting machines from Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax county districts to districts in other counties where the lines are traditionally longer.

P.S. . . I’m not taking any consultant fees for this service. Consider this 'pro bono' for a pretty decent governor.
