McCain and Palin rallied together today in Pennsylvania.
McCain and Palin rallied together today in Pennsylvania.

HERSHEY, Pa. (CNN) – John McCain unofficially declared this fair city a diva-free zone Tuesday.

In his first joint rally with running mate Sarah Palin since tension between their aides spilled into public view, McCain opened his remarks by declaring, “By the way, when two mavericks get together, you don’t agree on everything – but that’s fun!”

McCain has previously made similar comments at rallies about how he and Palin do not agree on everything, such as drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (McCain opposes, Palin supports).
But this time the comment had particular resonance with a large crowd here in Pennsylvania, coming just days after a McCain adviser privately charged to CNN that Palin is a “diva” who’s not staying on-message, while Palin advisers fired back that McCain aides botched her rollout to the American people.

If you plan to vote for McCain, expect one CHANGE during his 4 years, a NAME TAG REPLACEMENT. So get ready to go HUNGRY!!

Winnie Hussein . . . in Montana   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

John, Sarah, be careful of your actions and statements or you will reap what you sow.

BTW: really tired of so and so the such and such (i.e. Joe the Plumber, Tito the Builder), yesterday McCain not only took an old audio radio interview Sen. Obama gave and misstated everything, he out and out lied about several points. Then he named Obama the Redistributor. So Sen. Obama has been a socialist, marxist, spreader of wealth, and redistributor. I'm tired of these kindergarten names for kindergarten mentalities.

HAHAHAHA

Deana   October 28th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

I don't understand why McCain is using this "Joe the Plumber. " Joe is not his name, he's not a plumber, and he'd do BETTER under the Obama plan. He speaks to a group of "wanna be's". These people are so deluded they don't even realize that the premise of Obama's tax plan is rooted in Reagan's redistribution tax that actually allowed for the first time, those who made under a certain amount of money to actually MAKE money at tax time. What a crock campaign McCain is running on and "Sam the Moron" is his supporter.

Donna from Colorado Springs   October 28th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Everyone knows that McCain is going to put a positive spin on the Palin debacle. He would die before ever admitting to making one of the worst mistakes of his life by choosing her as a running mate! He knows that his campaign is in the toilet and everyone is already pointing fingers at each other. Can't he ever just admit what's going on and tell the truth for a change? The man doesn't know the truth anymore. The people in this country are not stupid, John. Don't act like we are!

Linda32   October 28th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

FRUIT FLYS HAVE A SHORT LIFE SPAND RESEACHERS CAN LOOK AT DISEASE OVER A LIFE TIME AND USE THE EXAMPLES IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT !!! ((( THAT ONE FOR PRESIDENT ))) !!!!!!!

Pailin is not a serious candidate. I just don't see a "Maverick" when I look at her.

John   October 28th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Really? John McCain doesn't want people to think that there is any miscommunication happening within his campaign a week from election day. Boy that's pretty profound.

Don   October 28th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Have you all who are so concerned about taxes being raised thought that the higher salaries ALREADY pay higher taxes? It's called a tax bracket.... the more you make the more your taxed. Your argument is absurd, now it sounds like we have an entire nation of $250,000.00 earners... what happened to unity? Obama is not looking for absolute power nor is he following the footsteps of Marxism, Socialism... etc. Where was all of this tough talk when George W was running and people knew how dumb "he" was?

Take a look at an Obama rally then at a McCain rally and you will see who has a better handel on the country as a WHOLE, I mean UNITY.

Your always looking to vote for the good ol boy club and forgo intellect and common sense just because THE PERSON DOESNT SUIT YOU SOCIALLY....

Jackie Rae   October 28th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Is this guy running for President or homecoming King? What a childish comment to make.

paul (reformed republican)   October 28th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

McCain is making the same mistake Palin made over the weekend: Perpetuating a story for another news cycle. Neither one of them seem to be able to follow the wise advice being given to them. They are unwittingly sabotaging their own run for the election.

Just what the country needs: Two people who cannot seem to engage some thoughtful introspect before running off at the mouth, who cannot confer before making statements. How would any world leader know how to react getting two completely different stances on US policy?

Ann   October 28th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Am I the only Obama Mama who is starting to feel sorry for this guy? You just can't feel anything but pity for him as he tries to keep his head above water day after day. It's pathetic!

new voter   October 28th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Hey, McCain!

Share with the rest of us how your wife managed to pay only 25% tax on her millions in income! Isn't she in a much higher tax bracket?

Then, when you talk about your position on taxes, maybe we will believe that you actually have our interests at heart and not just yours, or your wife's or your well-positioned friends...

Or maybe we will continue to support those who deserve to be leaders of this great nation.

Greg in Mpls   October 28th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Yeah...OK...sure McCain. And the fundamentals of our economy are still strong right?

Brian   October 28th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

But, the reports are coming from both sides of the McCain/Palin campaign. In any event, McCain should not even be upset with Palin for the bad publicity of late. He should be upset with himself for putting her on the national stage a little prematurely.

Gene   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

"When two mavericks get together, we don't agree on everything. That's what makes it fun"

Ok McCain.. that's not fun.. that's called gridlock in the executive branch.

I love this article.. McCain basically saying just close your eyes and ears and pretend that everything in the GOP is just gosh darned rosy.

Anything else McCain would like us to turn a deaf ear on?

California Gold   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

This campaign is still dealing with fluff. Seven days until election day and they keep avoiding frank discussion of their solutions to the grave economic problems strangling this country. All I hear about is Palin's wardrobe, how they are "mavericks" and other utterly irrelevant matters.

Dana from NY   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

By the way- two mavericks is an oxymoron...a maverick is someone who stands out on their own...LOL
But whatever- believe the hype because its coming from within their own campaign- palin is out for herself, and McCain is flailing in the wind... if you've never witnessed a sinking ship before- now you have!!

Victory on November 4th!!
Obama/Biden 08

Jim the Voter   October 28th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

The GOP ticket has become a cocktail party joke. While Obama is out on the stump preaching unity, McCain/Palin are out there continuing to try to distract, deceive and divide the American people. While Obama is running for President of the UNITED States of American it appears clear that McCain would prefer to lead the DIVIDED States of America. It's time for this tactic to end.

No how, No way No McCain/Palin

Charles   October 28th, 2008 4:13 pm ET

John, What in the world is a Maverick? It must mean someone who can't come up with a new or orginal idea. Someone that keeps trying the same thing over and over and expects a different result. I think that you have over used the term just a little.

victor   October 28th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

MD TX Your kidding right? You really can't be that foolish? Can you?

sabuc for Obama   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Call me a Maverick as well because I also don't agree with anything McCain has to say. Well I only agree on him wanting Stevens to step down, but besides that nothing else.

Deborah Black   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Dear MD in TX, have you been paying any attention. John McCain hs tried to silence the media at every chance. He has cancelled appearances and called anyone who disagrees with him names. Sara Palin has done the same thing. When either one of them screws up or gives a foolish answer, they blame the media and accuse them of bias. Isn't that the same thing George bush did to keep all his lies and corruption silent?

KayLynn   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Once again, McCain doesn't talk on the issues. He just doesn't get it , or better, doesn't have a clue as to what he'd do. Palin would be a disaster if McCain couldn't handle the position. just think, Palin could be our next President.......OMG!

Bulldog   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

The McCain and Palin campaign is nothing more than a JOKE! They can't even run a smooth campaign let alone an entire country. If one thing has been clear in this election it is that Obama has run a smooth and excellent campaign while the McCain campaign has been in complete disarray. That shows who the better leader is between these two.

FreeNLovIt   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Who cares about Joe the Plumber. We have gone from dumb to dumber. With McCain's erratic behaviour, we WILL all be LOST IN TRANSLATION as he takes us through his senior moments. I have seen a few and it's bound to repeat more frequently if he wins the White House.

Democrat Lady   October 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Hey, "Welcome to the Obama Show Person" Please answer this question: What has the Republican Party done for us in the past eight years? Sorry. People are sick of the GOP games. When our country is the worst it has been since the 1930's, I think it is time for a change. Obama can't ruin this country......It looks as though Bush has done a good job of that already.

FreeNLovIt   October 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

You know, there will be ONE change coming all OUR ways if McCain gets elected. This change is a name tag replacement from Bush to McCain in the Oval Office.

Yes, a NAME TAG REPLACEMENT. If you voted 90% of the time with Bush, 10% of the time, he'll just be replacing names and people with the same philosophies of Bush.

Come on, his first few economic advisors were DISASTERS.

I have already warned all of you. So, 100 days from now, dont be screaming!!!

You voted for Bush twice and you're shocked he cant do the job. Do your homework.

Get Obama's quote right to Sam Wurterbureger and stop using Joe the Plumber – his name isn't even Joe and he ain't even a plumber. Get a brain! We've had it with you and Bush and Rove. Ridicule only works if the desired angry reaction to it occurs!

When Sarah Palin just laughs and ignores it, she turns a negative into a positive by revealing the perpetrators as mean and thuggish!

Actually, Governor Palin has more experience than Obama, and she has accomplished a great deal in her time as a servant leader!

Most importantly, Sarah Palin is an authentic reformer who communicates with people right where they are and she walks the talk!

Obama can claim neither experience nor accomplishments, and he masquerades as an angel of light!

Obama's converts see him as a demi-god but mainstream America sees him as an emerging demagogue! :(

Just answer one simple question. Explain to us why Obama has always attracted highly educated voters and struggle with low-information voters? If you have an answer for that, please share it with us. If you don't, then please spare us of your stupid comments.

Since John McCain says he puts "Country First", I just cannot understand how he can select someone as unqualified as Sarah Palin to be his VP.
That is hardly putting the country first.

Obama is already bringing this country back together, black – white, young and old, and particularly, Independents and even some republicans.

Sarah, John, Ted, step back and watch a REAL leader take the riegns of this country.

And the doubters, don't be fooled by this socialist nonsense. If McCain and Palin were held to the very same standard that they levy the socialism charge on, they would be considered facist.

Not that I think they are, but double standards are never pretty.

No, Sen. McCain, we, the American people, don't think having two mavericks running around flipping, flopping and making things up as they go is fun at all! We find it very scary!

We prefer steady leadership that can bring people together to fix the mess we are currently in.

I said Thanks, but No Thanks to another 4 years of g.o.p. corruption, arrogance and incompetence   October 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

McCain let himself be ruled by Dobson, Hannity and Rush. They told him pick Palin or we will disrupt the g.o.p. convention. McCain, the maverick, gambler folded and the result is he is about to suffer the biggest loss the Rushpublicans have endured since 1964.

Palin is more than a Diva, she's a grifter, a con artist , just like "Joe the Partisan". Many Americans are her willing marks.

Rob   October 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

I find this hard to believe. The Obama camp would NEVER put out negative information on McCain, and the media would never put there sole focus on all things negative to McCain. OH NO! I've become delusional, just like an Obama supporter. Before I know it I'll be believing that Obama's tax plan will help all Americans, that he really didn't know about Bill Ayers, that he really wasn't in the pews for Wright's sermons. I'll start to believe that the best way to make America safe is to cut and run.

No, try as much as I can, I could never be that dumb.

Mccain is just not willing to tell the truth. Plain and Mccain do not just "not agree' they do not get along, period! we need a president and VP that have good chemistry and these two just don't. No personality clashes, no budding heads, no power struggles. We need their focus to be on one thing and one thing only, the economy!
Mccain is just dying to get PA, but PA people are too smart to give another 4 years to the BUSH/MCCAIN way of thinking!

Sue from KC   October 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Wow, thats a perfect comment to lose even more votes than you already have!! "were both mavericks and we sometimes don't get along, thats the fun part?" what is fun about that!?!? That your campaign is a complete organized mess? That you and your VP know NOTHING about each other and you don't even agree on half the things? What a joke, go back to Alaska Palin and John, I think its time you retire.

Republican for Obama   October 28th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

WASHINGTON — Millions of homeowners facing foreclosure got a bucket of ice water in the face from Senator John McCain March 25.“The mess you are in is your own fault. Don’t expect any bailouts from me.” That was the GOP presidential nominee’s message, stripped of election-year rhetoric.

Speaking to small business owners in Los Angeles, an epicenter of the housing crisis, McCain said, “It is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly whether they are big banks or small borrowers.”

Ron of Baltimore   October 28th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

We are so over the John and Sarah Show. It started running stale when we got a whiff of her doings in Alaska, and then when McCain made believe he new and approved of everything anyway. The clothes bit, the hair and makeup bit, the name-calling/-labelling of their rivals all left a bitter stink.

She does not trust you and yours, John, and now isn't trusted herself. You are making an old fool of yourself.

Reagan, Clinton, Bush 41 and Bush 43 as well as Obama have one thing in common and that is one central Theme with just a few ideas, for the election. McCain was all over the place, and had no business choosing Palin: Look at how they chose to waste their time; look at this: If everything that they say about Obama is True, then the Bush/McCain war on Terror didnt work. because a terriost, socialist etc, etc is in the US Senate, and about to become President.

The only people who would buy his claims of peace and harmony, despite his own campaign stating the contrary would be the ones at his pep rallys. It is silly to think that a statement as clearly phony as that one would resonate with the dwindling undecided voters a week before voting.

I'd love to know who McCain really wanted to pick for his VP, and how the RNC twisted his arm to pick Palin.

I'd also love to know if Palin feels her treatment as VP is as sexist as it looks, and how she feels about being allowed to be seen but not heard.

Encouraging healthy discussion about issues that the Pres and VP disagree on is one thing, but airing it all out in the press through anonymous comments from advisors of each camp is nothing more than a sign of a dysfunctional team.

There is only one candidate in this race who has demonstrated for 2 years how he can build and lead an effective team, and that is Barack Obama. It is those skills, and that temperament, that I am anticipating in the White House, and it is a key reason why I have voted for the Obama/Biden ticket.

Joe   October 28th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Attention Mccain Supporters...

Have any of you been having a hard time trying to post anything positive about Senator Mccain on this site?

Yesterday, I tried to respond 16 times to a lady who kept asking why I would vote for John Mccain...and CNN didn't post any of them.

Is CNN purposely censoring any opposing view or is it just my comments for some reason? It seems every comment on here is praising Sen. Obama and ripping Sen. Mccain apart. That is hard to believe since the polls are so close.

Just wondering...I would hate to think such a reputable MSM organnization would resort to this...but I have no other answer.

And Sara "Oh Please" Palin definitely is not a maverick. The McPalin ticket are real low lifes. First the group who sings Barracuda told them to stop using the song, but they didn't. Then the Maverick family asked them to stop using their name, but they continue to do so. This just goes to show me that they don't care who they offen and that is evident at both of their rallies.

When your destined to loose a campaign, you'll say anything. That's why McCain has let nothing but fear-inciting lies come out of his mouth and why Palin is beginning to distance herself. McCain has left his morals and beliefs at the beginning of the campaign and said anything that might help him get elected. If you fall for these lies, you should give your head a shake. Here is a little fact-check for those who are still undecided:

1- Citizenship
Obama: born in Hawaii thus US citizen
McCain: born in Panama thus Panama citizen

2- Education
Obama: Graduate level IV league education, Harvard law school.
McCain: Undergraduate education, low level and mediocre education, Annapolis.

3- Professional Career
Obama: University Professor, Community Organizer, US senator. Talented individual.
McCain: US Navy, US senator. Little to no talent.

4- Character
Obama: Never divorced. Respectful to women.
McCain: Divorced his first wife for a richer and younger women. Disrespectful to women.

Now that you know the truth. Spread it around.

I see this as not so much a sexist remark, because it is such an old (ancient, archaic) world word, but one that Palin may fit into just by mean of her ego and her untouchable attitude. But it belittles the word itself, not Palin. Palin is an outrageous little pissant who is out of control and whetted with the taste of power, however fleeting ti may be and let's hope it is. And McCain in his last ditch effort to win brought about his failure with her as his running mate. Let them continue to bring negative attention to themselves. This guy is clearly not in control of his campaign. It really has little to do with Palin although she is scary in her own right. It is the extreme right which has hijacked his campaign and put McCain on the dishonorable path he is on. John McCain has sold out and he is paying for it every day. The fact that Palin is on his ticket makes it worse because she is incapable of doing anything other than reiterate the conservative talking points. Look at all the pathetic gimmickry they have been using over the past few weeks. They tried Ayres, Joe the Plumber, Socialism, Marxism. They will try anything. Get ready, in the next few days they will come up with something else.
I think they look and sound ridiculous with this constant rhetoric of smear and fear. They offer the Ameican public nothing in terms of substance, direction or ideals. This is why they are losing and deservedly so.

The two Maverick's....are we sick of hearing that yet...yes...yes...yes!!
I find it rather funny how McCain wants Ted Stevens to step down because of Stevens being found guilty.....and yet here McCain still is "palling around " with Sarah who was also found guilty last week!!!
There seems to be some kind of disconnect there wouldn't you say?
McCain and Palin are definately in a world of their own.....breaking the law apparently does not make a jot of difference to them and Sarah has the nerve to talk about corruption in Washington...HELLO!!!
If this country needs the likes of those two then we need to start selling ice to the Eskimo's!!!!
If you haven' voted yet get out and do so quickly.....we need to vote for someone who has principles, morals and good judgement and who can be trusted to run this country honestly.
Enough of McPalin we don't need their kind administration....we have just had 8 years of it thanks but no thanks.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Am I the only one confused by the adoration and praise lavished on Palin by the McCain campaign, patricularly female advisors. Watching Lary King last night (as well as previous nights) I had to wonder if the two ladies on his panel were talking about he Sarah Palin or some other person no one has yet met. It's a little sickening how these people fawn over her as if she were the answer ot all of Americas myriad troubles.

How is it that she ( a womand that can not even pronounce ing words properly) be trusted to lead the country.

Giving more tax breaks to the rich has not produced any jobs in the last 8 years, it simply gave the CEO's bigger buy-out packages. What jobs there were, they shipped to India or China. Let's get the republicans out of there NOW!

Humble American   October 28th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

You know, this election is getting real real old. This is so full of inuendo, lies, and artificial exchanges, I can't take it anymore.

Barack, in my "Humble" opinion, is trying to take a high road while the McCain campaign keeps driving the negative. I'm also a proud veteran who knows that honor is very important in one's life. I fear that Mr. McCain has lost his honor, and is selling out, for the sake of winning this election. I am very dissapointed in this candidate.

Today, I have decided to vote for Obama. And, thank G-d, that's my FINAL ANSWER!!

Georgia for Obama   October 28th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Ok, Palin is trying to take over McCain campaign look at the both out of touch with American, campaign adviser, stylist, wardrobe adviser,
I thought president and VP should be on the same agenda....

Palin is out for herself

Does McCain think this is election is some kind of joke? Disagreement is "fun"? Well I guess the good thing is, Obama will probably go up in the polls again after this remark.

Oh, Angry Johnny...your campaign is leaking like the Titanic. You can go on the stump and try to banish all the talk coming from inside your own campaign, but no one is buying it. McPalin is a downward sprial. One week to go and hopefully we'll never hear from either of them ever again.

Vicky the Voter- it has already been stated on CNN and other news organizations before that the McCain camp hands out the pre-made signs before their rally's. I wonder if people turn on the news ever? The signs and people are very fake.

I love how McCain is flat out lying to his own supporters that there is no friction in the GOP. It's his advisors complaining and complaining to several news organizations. How stupid does this guy think America is. If he will flat out lie to his supporters about insignificant things like this imagine what else he would lie about. I'm sorry I just don't see why this guy is so appealing. He has flip flopped on so many issues, if people would do their own research they would find out and it's easy to see most of them are news clips featuring him. Not to mention he is into name calling and linking Obama to people when McCain himself has some very interesting connections such as Rev. John Hagee and Rev. Rod Parsley, which are his spiritual guides and both endorse his campaign.

I just wish people would stay focused on the issues and that is one of the many reasons I like and am voting for Barack Obama. Obama/Biden '08 our only real hope for Change and Unity in America.

Don   October 28th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

When major Republicans are jumping ship and doing it on TV, that's "friction" regardless of what you call it.

Robin - FL   October 28th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

@Vicky the Voter – McCain's should go all out and just hire the rest of the Village People to push out his economic message. It would still be sad but at least they would have a good excuse to play "In The Navy"

It doesn't really matter to me whether they get along with each other or not. I think the type of campaigning they're doing is despicable and I don't think they should be rewarded for it by winning the election. I'd rather have Obama as president because I believe he will more likely deliver on getting us off foreign oil and onto clean alternative energy. That's why I voted for him, to get clean alternative energy.

Obama supporters – please get out and vote on or before Nov 4.

Obama 08: white, female, 60 yr old supporter   October 28th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Why is it that so few Republican politicians introduce McCain and Palin at their rallies?? Always Lieberman (who is looking for a cabinet post), Graham or Cindy who doesn't appear to have anything else to do but stand there day after day listening to her husband's speeches.

A comparison between the united Obama campaign, the depth of his support and the bipartisan, intelligent group of his advisors need to give voters pause as to who would provide the unity America needs.

Noah   October 28th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Whoa, slow down there liberals. It seems to me that there have been alot of differences between Obama and biden as well. Biden contradicted Obama on coal energy, stated that he disagreed with the Obama campaigns advertisement depicting McCain as "out of touch" andn ot knowing how to use a computer, and most recently stated the world would test Obama within 6 months of his presidency. Obama had to spend quite some time smoothing his way out of that one. So, there is plenty of dissension among obama-Biden as well but the media chooses to ignore it on most cases

(Sunshine4U)   October 28th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

McCain just doesn't know what else to say....having Palin tagging along like a puppet on a string in PA trying to sway voters with all of their deceitfulness. There's so much animosity between Palin and McCain until it's not even funny any more. All this is nothing but a floor show to entertain the blinded Republican base. There's a lot that he and Palin doesn't agree on. How can you run on the same ticket with different ideas? I thought they had something in common but obviously they don't. Sarah is a "rogue" and can't be trusted and will not listen to what McCain or his staffers have to say. This is not good for the Americans if they should get into the whitehouse. All they will do, if they get in, is bash and criticize each other on this plan and that plan. No sound ideas and/or plans will come out of the whitehouse with these 2 in office. People, please vote reasonably.

I like you Senator McCain, unlike Obama, I feel much safer with you in the White House.

Individuals who state that by "voting for McCain, they are voting for 8 more years of Bush," well, I'm in that small percentage of Americans who still likes President Bush.

Senator McCain, I could care less how many homes you own, or how many automobiles you have in your many driveways, you are the right man for the job.

I am educated as well as employed; I will sleep comfortably in my beach house, with you as my President.

I am not eager to "share the wealth," and have my tax dollars support welfare recipients who sit on their buns all day!

Obama wants to burn the plank on both ends for small business (that's the majority of companies in America).

If you raise the min. wage and tax the business more, who suffers?
Everyone

Goods and services cost more.
Small business will fail and we will import more that costs less.

David   October 28th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Does he not understand that such comments are being reported by his own team?

Does he have his head in the sand or what?

Really now – no friction? Interesting comment. He always looks so uncomfortable when he is with Palin even when doing a joint interview. I am sure I saw him grimace and wince in his chair when Palin had to answer a question – worried that she will come out with another "stupid" answer perhaps?

I do not believe that their is no friction in the McCain camp. If his ads are based on misinformation if not outright lies how can you believe the man himself. I'm sure McCain is a nice enough guy and all but he really should retire.

Obama just feels like the right way to go this time around. The Republicans had eight years to prove themselves and whether or not it is Bush or McCain I do not believe they deserve another term in the seat of power.

And to add to their problems....

In its endorsement of Obama in the presidential contest, the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, called Palin "too risky" to be one step away from the Oval Office. "Like picking McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," the editors said.

The newspaper's editorial board concluded that Obama "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."

the only friction there ever was, during the democratic presidential race in 2000,2004, and 2008. the repubs just sit back and laugh at those democratic clowns craving for power, now thats idiocy
nobama democrats = kinda like lemmings of a pack following the false prophet messiah saviour right over a cliff because their brainwashed. "barack the vote", "vote early","vote straight dem". maybe that one guy was right, america becoming a nation of whiners wanting to depend on the goverment to pamper 'em.

Frank,MO   October 28th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

McCain: Hi Maverick!

Palin : Hi Maverick!

McCain/Palin: We are so mavericksy !

Vicky the Voter October 28th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Funny, I went to the Palin rally today and there were signs ALREADY MADE UP with things like "John the Chocolate Maker" and "Judy the Waitress" and they were giving them out to have people hold them.

Now why does that not suprise me? Thanks for letting us know Vicky.

I can not wait for Nov 5th!!!

Welcome Prez Elect Obama!!

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   October 28th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

We won't buy what you won't sell.

McCain messed up by picking Palin in the first place.
He then botched her roll out to some degree in terms of not letting her speak to anyone.
Then, when we saw the Katie Couric interviews, right after the John Gibson interviews, it played into WHY Team McCain didn't let her speak.
She hasn't given us any reason to believe she's ready to really handle the duties of VP. For that reason, it was a mistake by McCain.
Susan Collins out of Maine would have been another woman which could have persuaded a lot of Indies to go to Mcain. Heck, even Kay Bailey out of Texas could've worked if he wanted a woman (although two older people on GOP side probably woouldn't hve gone over very well with younger folk).

With economy as bad as it has been since first part of September, and knowing that Obama would run "I'm not an expert on the economy" ads, wouldn't Romney have been the smart pick? Just asking.

sandee in Portland   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I would like to know what, if anything, McCain has done to help his own state of Arizona since he's been in the senate, particularly during these last 8 years. I know that he's not taken or lobbied for any earmarks, which by the way, provide jobs for your state in the form of roads, bridges, infrastructure.

ConsciousAmerican   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Maybe he should alert his staff! Sounds like these biting comments from both McCain and Palin camps are intentional distractions. Leave it to McCain to set us all straight by calling a press conference to discuss it. GIVE ME A BREAK. or should I say GIVE ME YOUR POSITION ON ISSUES McPalin!

Frank in NC   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I went to early voting today. There was a long line, longer than I expected. Based on the demographics of the people in line, I would say the McCain/Palin ticket is going to do pretty well.

ray   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

remember america , sara palin and john macain are both terrorist , both racists, both bigots, bot red necks, both kkk's so dont be fooled

rob   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

WE DON'T LIE–LISTEN TO US- LOL , YEAH RIGHT !

Will-South Dakota   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

All she is doing is out-smarting McCain and will be the new face of the GOP, move out Mitt, Rudy you just been FIRED!

josephine   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I thought that joe the plumber said that obama's tax plan was better than McCains, so what 's he doing endorsing McCain now? what a hypocrite!! and he is not even a licensed plumber.

AZVoter   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

So, Senator McCain, when your adviser calls Governor Palin a "whack job", they mean it in a good way, right?

Alexandra - ND   October 28th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Why isn't CNN reporting on John McCain's comments about safe nuclear energy?!?

He said:
"We talk about offshore drilling and he said he would quote, consider, offshore drilling. We talked about nuclear power, well it has to be safe, environment, blah, blah, blah."

Blah, blah, blah?!?! He seriously doesn't care about nuclear energy being safe or environmentally friendly?

Stupid is as stupid does   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

yeah, ok. And I have a bidge to nowhere to sell you ....again.

PAUL   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

McCain and Palin act like a highschool couple trying to convience everybody they "didn't really breakup".

PA Voter   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

I'm voting bright and early on November 4th for Barack Obama in Pennsylvania.

A McCain supporter is using the tag "PA Voter" on this blog. Probably isn't even from PA. Go figure.

JAY N.H.   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Yeah Right. Just listen to her speeches. you senator McCain are clueless, Your running mate is guilty of ABUSE OF POWER, and Joe the Plumber your newest endorsement is an idiot. We get colon powell and you get Joe the plumber. Hey Sarah do the math!

nc   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

So I googled "PNAC".. big deal. Joseph Biden's name is on there as well together with Mccains.. whats your point?

Brian   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

You'd think that a campaign that has had to spend so much time at damage control would at least be good at it by now.

Apparently, they are not.

David from Kentucky   October 28th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

McCain has a big dagger made out of Alaska caribou antler sticking out of his back....courtesy Sarah Palin. She is in this for herself and will thrown McCain under the bus in a heartbeat if it will give her some added mileage.

Kathy from NJ   October 28th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

PA-*UCKIN-THETIC. Election Day just wont come soon enough.

deb in Colo   October 28th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Funny, I'm more inclined to the McCain aid who called Pailn a "DIVA"; than I am McCain himself.

He hasn't had control of his campaign since he picked the Diva.

LouAnn   October 28th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

I don't see any mavericks on the repub ticket....I only see liars. McCain is the biggest one of all. Does he really think the public is buying all his nonsense? I for one am not.

Joe The Engineer   October 28th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Stop saying Maverick, i am so sick of that word. Please somebody tell him to shut up.

Cathy Brandes   October 28th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

I absolutely believe their is friction between the two of them plus their staffs. It is obvious she is positioning herself for 2012 in the event the McCain/Palin ticket goes down to defeat.
God help the GOP if she is the new face of the party

David   October 28th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

One thing that noone ever mentions is that independent studies have shown that McCains economic plan will result in an increase in the national debt larger than Obama's, fiscal responsibility my butt. More money less value, kinda reminds one of George Bush.

D&D   October 28th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Remember to VOTE folks, early or on the election day, make sure you VOTE, democrates, that's the ONLY way to GO!!!

Obama/Biden 08/12

Greed is not good   October 28th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Well I agree that the so-called friction is a bunch of hype and fabrication of the media trying to increase ratings. Palin if anything is just trying to stir the pot and get the GOP base to stay awake .

37-year-old First Time Voter   October 28th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Yeah, he can keep covering up all he wants. Another one of his top adivers said she's a "whack job". Yeah, keep it coming....LOL

RIF   October 28th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

That means that there is friction considerig the fact that everything out of McCain's mouht is a lie.

Republican Voting OBAMA   October 28th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

This is not coming from the eletist media it is coming from your own campaign. Pleeeezzzzzzz

Voted Early   October 28th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

McCain opened his remarks by declaring, “By the way, when two mavericks get together, you don’t agree on everything – but that’s fun!”

yawwwwwn..

D. Jones   October 28th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Liar, Liar pants on fire Obiden 08......

Mrs Miller   October 28th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

crownsy   October 28th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

please disregard my aides! they have no idea whats going on in this campaign!

we like it that way! keeps everyone on thier toes not knowing what anyone is doing at any given time!

CMJ   October 28th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I don't believe for one minute that a McCain Palin administration would work smoothly, or that they would work together for the benefit of the American people.

Baze   October 28th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Yeah right

Laverne   October 28th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Nice try John, it is actually worse than what is being reported. That is what happen when you don't know a person and did not vet your number 2. Besides folk from your own camp have already confessed. John McCain should go ahead and endorse Barack Obama and go into permanent retirement. We love you John, but I think you have given about all you have left to give!

Jillian   October 28th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL......I can't stop laughing!

Vicky the Voter   October 28th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Funny, I went to the Palin rally today and there were signs ALREADY MADE UP with things like "John the Chocolate Maker" and "Judy the Waitress" and they were giving them out to have people hold them.

Isn't that kind of FAKE? I mean, I KNOW Joe the Plumber isn't a licensed plumber... but how many of those other references she spoke of were fake, too?
