Palin says Stevens should step aside.
Palin says Stevens should step aside.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said Tuesday Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens should resign his Senate seat, in a statement released hours after John McCain made a similar declaration.

The comments come a day after Palin would not say what she thought the best course of action for the recently convicted senator should be.

"After being found guilty on seven felony counts, I had hoped Senator Stevens would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering his Senate seat," she said in the statement. "He has not done so. Alaskans are grateful for his decades of public service but the time has come for him to step aside. Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress."

HUFFINGTON POST   October 28th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Palin should call on herself to resign for being found guilty of ethics violations & violating the people's trust. Is there no end to the hypocracy of this liar with a microphone? Sarah Palin is bad actress at best.

Sandy   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Who wants to bet that Palin will appoint herself as Senator?

Fed up Alaskan   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Palin "palled around" with a now convicted felon…she ran Steven's PAC up here in Alaska. Why isn't this more of a story today?

As much as I don't want her back here in Alaska, I REALLY don't want her anywhere near the White House! Send her back here so we can go about the business of impeaching her from the governorship.

Realistic   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Why didn't she herself resign after the abuse of power finding in Troopergate?

Chris   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Uh, yesterday she was silent on the issue but, I guess since McCain said he sould resign she didn't want to look like a rouge!! LOL!!!

When are you McCain supporters going to wake and see these two clowns for what they are "Worthless"!! LOL

emma mpey   October 28th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

look who is talking about others having to resign, while I agree with her, if she truly cares about the betterment of the American people and this nation as a whole she will do us all a favor and take her lack of integrity, unintelligent, empty headed self back to where she came from and leave those who know what they are doing to take reign and make this country the nation of envy for the rest of the world once more. She can go back to watching sun sets over Russia.

JD   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

I agree with everyone here. She is believes she is to be excepted from such things. She is going to lose her career as a politician sooner than she expects. You shoukld be careful when throwing your inexperienced weight around. I guess she has always figured she could get away with anything because no one pays attention to what is going on in Alaska and the majority of their population seems to be republicans, so why would they (or how dare they) chastise her for her indiscretions?

The highest approval rating of any current governor? Maybe that has something to do with the fact that she is good at hiding things she does and gets rid of people who may be a threat to her exposure.

Can't wait to see the chips fall for this one.

How can she be so vile and arrogant? "I guess a small town mayor is something like a community organizer, except the community organizer is going to be President of the United States", and the small town mayor will go back to her small town.

Shut your trap Palin and leave America alone.

Stupid is as stupid does   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

If I remember correctly Ms. Palin, your husband had your house built by the same people who constructed the arena in Alaska. And it was done for free. So you need to get your lies together sister because they're coming after you soon. CNN knows this is true but chooses not to post it right now. But if you do your homework, you'll see that as she ended her stint as Mayor, she had this house built, by a contractor. This contractor was then awarded the arena contract. Hmmm. This was all orchestrated by Palins husband. Hmmm. Look into it people.

Palin is next with her abuse.

Dave   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Yeah, he should resign, after the way he used his position to get people fired, and the way he charged taxpayers to live in his own house, and the way he charged taxpayers for travel for himself and his kids, and the way he charged rape victims for their rape kits, and the way he turned surpluses into $22 millon debts by building huge sports complexes in a town of 3,000 people, and…

Oh, wait… that wasn't Stevens. Well, whoever DID do those things should resign, too!

Moderate   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

I am confused — this is what she should do so why are we bashing her? I have as little respect for Palin as most people; however, when she does the right thing she should be accorded respect for her actions. Had she not done so, then I would believe she is acting improperly. I for one am glad she has made this statement and will put no strings on that statement of thanks.

That Other Jerry   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Dose of reality here–Palin wasn't *convicted* of anything. The legislative committee specifically declined to include any recommendation of charges. Branchflower was the one who has on his own decided to try and convict Palin based on his own conclusions from the report. Stevens has been tried and convicted by a real court of law. At some point he might win on appeal (or he might not), but under the present circumstances, he should step down. And a lot of folks should get a life, and learn the difference between a corruption conviction and a tempest in a teapot.

Charlie Bradley   October 28th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

If the Senator has to resign so should the Governor. Abuse of power disqualifies this banshee from serving in ANY public office

Karin   October 28th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

RC,

I would vote for Obama if I were American, however, McCain's body language has nothing to do with Hitler.
McCain can't raise his arms above shoulder height because of his injuries in Vietnam. When waving to the crowds, it does look a bit like a fascist greeting, however, he just can't get his arms higher up, due to severe fractures he suffered whilst being a POW.
Why can't Dems and GOP's keep to the issues here, instead of insulting each other??

Anne   October 28th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

BJ   October 28th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Here we go again…..she didn't call for his resignation until she was told that's what she should do. She could have thought for herself by saying that from yesterday. Maybe her husband told her to do it…he seems to be pretty involved in the running of the Government in Alaska. If that ticket wins, heaven help us…..we don't want someone behind the scenes running the U.S. in case something happens to McCain, do we?

M.   October 28th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

I just noticed on where I wrote my comments that it said,
"Your comment is awaiting moderation."

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND WHY?

Rick   October 28th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

If Stevens was a democrat there would be no calls to resign, he would be defended by the unmoral democrat party and would be hailed as a hero. Such is your modern-day democrat party.

Luke NC   October 28th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Gov. Palin,
We too are grateful for your effort to "not blink" in stepping up when called to service. Now please do us all a favor and step aside. You may be qualified to run Alaska, but have no clue about the nuances, diplomacy or judgement to govern a country from the center not to mention intellectual curiosity and understanding of the difficult challenges facing the country today. You and your party only serves to divide and fear/hate monger.

Dave   October 28th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

This coming from a Governor who used her office to further a personal grudge and violated ethics laws. Who is she to be giving advice to anyone? This is another conflict of interest. If he resigns from the Senate, Palin can appoint herself to fill his Senate seat. Who thinks she wouldn't do exactly that or at the least, run for his empty seat to put her in a better position to run for POTUS in 2012 after she finishs throwing McCain under the bus in 2008.

What kind of egotistical civic leader wastes taxpayer dollars by requiring another election when Teddy boy is forced to resign. Let's just hope the good folks in Alaska take care of him the democratic way since neither he or his comrades in the Senate will do a thing to correct this situation.

Did you all hear that Palin also bought her little daughter A Louis Vuitton Handbag for $700. A little girl with a $700 handbag. That is a thrifty shopper ha????

Palin said the $150,000 plus for cloths was not her idea and she obviously is a phoney.

I would love to see 6 pack Palin go to a Consignment store. What a joke.

The longer Stevens remains stubborn and makes this a story….

it hurts Palin!

Both Stevens and Palin are from Alaska.

Both Stevens and Palin are trying to get elected on Nov. 4th.

And Palin still has troopergate to deal with.

So Stevens' conviction brings attention to troopergate!!!

CitizenAJ   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Good question, if the good Governor is found guilty in her troopergate case, will she do the right thing? Didn't some court or independent council find her guilty of abusing her power already? Again, her and McCain making these calls for Senator Stevens to step down are political gaming, stunts, grand-standing to get votes. Trying to show their "maverick" reform. Get real! If Bush/Cheney were bad managers of the country, imagine someone who lacks the background to lead the nation and is clearly over her head? Whew, no way, no McCain, no Palin!

OBAMA GET'S IT!   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Palin has a lot of nerves considering there are major questions of her doing the exact SAME thing he was found guity of!

Also McCain asked the RNC to buy those clothes for Palin even though he had made an admendment to the Campaign Reform barring candidats from spending campaign funds on personal items, he said not so much as a bow tie should be bought.

So what made Palin an exception to his own rules?

Is this the kind of onesided "reform" we are to expect from a McCain/Palin team?

Does it not prove him once again to be a dishonest person when he does not even abide by his own rules?

McCAIN'S ADMENDMENTS TO CAMPAIGN REFORM

McCain offered one amendment that barred candidates from using campaign money for personal expenses such as vacations, mortgage payments, and clothing purchases, among others. Another amendment pushed for the campaign reforms, if enacted, to go into effect in 1994 instead of 1996, as originally proposed. Little noted was that McCain's amendment was identical to one that his Arizona colleague, Senator Dennis DeConcini (D), was set to introduce to the Senate, before McCain beat him to the punch by a day-a move that won McCain credit for the amendment.

Matt   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Karen   October 28th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

One more week – and then (I pray) Sarah goes back to Alaska!!! And four years from now, she'll be living out her own jail sentence (embezzling, shooting wolves from copters, more ethics violations, general stupidity – who knows; there's so much to choose from) and we will hopefully never have to hear her annoying, whiny, voice spreading lies and hypocrisy again!

Yea, Palin and McCain wants you to resign so if she can't win the white house she wants your job. Come on people wake up, they say Obama is spreading the wealth around, hey the Republicans having been ripping peoples money off, giving it to CEOs and people are losing our homes, Jobs, and they don't seem to care, just as long as they get more of our money in their pocket. I've been a republican and no more, I'm for Obama. Vote NOV. 4 for him.

I don't believe I've ever heard or read a single comprehensive, complete sentence that were actually her own words. It drives me insane when people in high positions of responsibility do not know how to speak the English language correctly. Thank God for speech writers.

Ann   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Oh let the old man run. He's all done anyway.

Gene   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Scott.. you make a good point. Though I don't believe McCain was at fault for the accident on his ship.. I do find it odd that his military records are sealed from the public. His whole claim to experience is based off his record in the military.. yet his record in the military is concealed from everyone. Shouldn't this be an issue?

AT   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Chris (SC),

You have a point. Now THAT would be an October Surprise.

Florence   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

What?

Sarah Palin wants Stevenson to resign? The Palin that abused her powers while in office? That is a joke, just like her clothes that she could have just said, 'If the clothes did not come from Walmart, then I am not going to wear them'.

Palin wants to be a VP even if she does not know what the job entails.

WELCOME TO THE OBAMA SHOW   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

HEY EDW,

IF SARAH IS A PUPPET WHAT DO YOU CALL OBAMA?

OH I ALL MOST FORGOT A SOCIALIST!!!!!!!!!!

I call for Palin to resign…

Wow, she saw which way the wind was blowing I guess. Yesterday, she wasn't so sure.

Tiff of lithia springs   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

She should ask herself to step down.

Colin   October 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

EDIT: that would technically make CNN McCain/Palin supporters if they were "fascists". WOW is all I can say.

Tony   October 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Thats odd… yesterday Palin was saying it was a sad day for senator Stevens and she's confident he'll do the right thing from now on. Talk about flip -flops

S. Boatman   October 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

I Call On You To Resign Power Abuser!

Joe Regis   October 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

The big politicians in Alaska are mired in scandals. They all should resign. The people of Alaska are not going to elect a convict any how.

The repubs are doomed next week Nov 4th.

My eyes are rolling…give me a break. Ok you self righteous dimwit, what's next on your script? Read carefully now…don't veer off in a direction that wasn't written for you. What's McCain going to say next, Obama runs over little children in the street and laughs.

Foolishness, nothing but

just another dirty politician from the alaska political machine

Colin   October 28th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Mark Johnson- Nice language. There is nothing racist going on and fascists are extreme right wing….sooo technically that would make the McCain/Palin supporters.

Axe2Grind   October 28th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Isn't she the same person who said yesterday "It is a sad day for the Stevens family, and a sad day for Alaska?" Basically, she felt sorry for him, since he was her mentor. Alaska, home of the corrupt Republican gang.

Srikop   October 28th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Thanks, but not thanks to Sarah Palin,

Obama '08

Rob Stumpf   October 28th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Yeah, sure. If Sarah told Stevens to hang in there, the lunatic left would bash her for condoning corruption. Lying hypocrites.

Obama and his sickening supporters are going to get what's coming to them very , very soon. When things don't go well, they will do what Democrats/liberals always do– they'll turn on each other with the sort of hatred only a group of crazy people can muster. It won't be long.

Wow   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Lol- Palin wants a Special Election so that she can can run for ol' Ted's seat. A job with lots of free goodies? You betcha!

Jeff   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Wow! People here make some of the STUPIDEST comments I have seen. What scares me the most is your right to vote.

All this Palin bashing about her abuse of power, yet, Obama can hang out with Ayers (who did donate to Obama in 2000, just a little more than an acquaintance.) who is known as being involved with terrorist acts, and yet not one of you will acknowledge it.

Don't vote for the candidates due to the real issues that effect you, don't disrespect these people that you do not personally know. For once be smart and make an educated choice. Differ in opinion, but don't name-call because of your own insecurities.

Way too much ignorance in our government as it is.

Bulldog   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Palin of all people calling for a fellow Alaskan politician to resign after it has been found she received gifts from lobbyist and government contractors, after she was found guilty of unethical conduct and abuse of power. Wow, that's refreshing…….NOT!!!

paul (reformed republican)   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

One of the most intelligent things she's uttered since she fell out of the sky in August.

Next we'll find Cheney came from Alaska. Do you see a pattern here?

Winnie Hussein . . . in Montana   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

J. Williams: William Jefferson has not been taken to trial and found guilty by a jury. When that happens, you can discuss the similarities, but not until.

KC   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

I'm an Alaskan and will bet my paycheck that Ted will be reelected. Alaska politics is amazing. This is the state will people will vote for legalization of marijuana and have an arsenal of weapons at their homestead –just in case. Welcome to my world!

M.   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

I wouldnever vote for a cowardly act of murdering animals from a airplane. That is not a leader.

Also the pleasure Palin had in standing next to a poor Moose she just MURDERED with a smile on her face. Her little daughter was also in the picture.
She did not murder the moose because her family was hungry. She did it for pleasure.

Animal activists should all protest this. This has nothing to do with hunting. This is deliberate pleasure of murder as the one also in the shooting of a wolf from a airplane.

Very disgusting person she is. Murder of animals for pleasure is not justified and isnot a sport.

sabuc for Obama   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

How ironic and hypocritical considering she should follow her McCain-approved advise do the statesWOman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering her head AND step aside. Give Alaskans two real choices!

Chrissy   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

She she do the right thing next? What about "Troopergate" and Todd Palin's involvment in a group that wanted to seperate Alaska from the U.S.? Why isn't this ever brought up as a "vetting' issue? How unpatriotic and hypocitical! 7 more days of her vacation; then back to work up north!!!!! OB08! Good riddance!

MikenMississippi   October 28th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Well CNN, there you go again! Taking an unflattering picture of a female running against Obama and making them look like pure hell. When will the media stop making this Obama movement more special than it is? It is quite sickening. You people in the media are not biased….I am soooo sorry to tell you.. You picked out your candidate months ago….I am a former Hillary supporter who would rather eat dirt on the day of the election than vote for Obama!

Colin   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

I love how someone who abused her own power, used tax payers money to send her family on non-government trips, and should have to resigned herself, is calling for the resignation of someone who in a way did the same thing….awkward.

Chuck   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

McCain and Palin are copying Obama on some of the issues now that the end of the campaign has come. The terms, words, inflections and tones in speech that McPal are using are very close to Obama's speeches of the past several weeks.

Don't McPal have original thoughts to convey to the electorate? What a bunch of copycats!

FreeNLovIt   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Yes, unfortunately, he'll have to go. It just doesnt look good.

Joyce   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Can we get an investigation on her House? Did her salary as Mayor and or Govenor cover the 2.1 million dollar home she has? She stated that Todd worked in the oil field earning $50,000 a year so what gives with her house? We want her investigated too!

Jay T.   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

There is no entertainment I prefer to watching Republicans eat one another. Call it the Roman Imperialist in me.

Joycelyn   October 28th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Look who is really talking? Palin should resign as well. Will be very interesting to see the outcome of her investigation. But we all know they will not release anything until after the election.

NYC Hillary Supporter   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

She was found guilty of ethics violations just days ago… shouldn't she step down? Yes, using her logic. How insane is she!

Tammy   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Well here's a democrat complaining about the Chicago style politics, and voting the republican ticket all the way. Why – for all those childish comments/people represented above. Hatred is what you people are all about.

California Gold   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

As governor of Alaska this is an appropriate statement. She should have been able to come up with this 24-hours ago instead of dodging direct questions. She lacks decisiveness. Lame Palin, very lame.

rich   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

It will be interesting to see what she does when she is convicted.

DebM, Allentown, PA Voted for Obama on Friday   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Hmmm, maybe you should have done this yesterday, Palin?

I truly hope the good people of Alaska impeach this lying, conniving, typical self-serving politician.

KC   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

I live in Alaska and am willing to bet my paycheck that Stevens will be reelected. The rest of the country has no idea of the complexities of Alaskan politics. It was a eye opener for me, coming from New York in 1990.

Michelle, PA   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Yeah, so she can appoint herself to the Senate? Transparent as ever in your ambition, Governor. No, let Ted get voted out fair and square. Keep Palin out of Washington, where she obviously doesn't belong. She'll be impeached or recalled soon enough anyway – as soon as the Personnel Board completes its own investigation, or maybe when Alaska digs a little deeper into how her own home was built. Either way, what goes around…..well, you kno wthe rest, Governor. Bon Voyage!

dave   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

If only that cloak of self-righteousness fit, Palin would really be something.

deb in Colo   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

EDW –

Good point – I forgot she couldn't talk without her notes.

Ben in Athens   October 28th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

I hope Alaskan voters just go ahead and vote for the other guy, because if they don't, Palin's got a good shot at Stevens' Senate seat. Whether he decides to step down after the election or the senate votes to force him out, there'll be a special election for his seat in Alaska. Anybody doubt she'd win it if she wanted it?

Chipster   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Yeah, Sarah, Stevens should resign for abusing his power, pork barrel earmarks, and accepting illegal "freebies." Hmmm, where have we heard all that before?

Abuse of power
Earmarks – thanks but – well, just THANKS
Home renovations minus the invoice

McCain would like to ask Palin to "step down" too but he can't right now…

Jon   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Good thing that Palin had time to talk with all her advisers before making this statement.

We need a leader who has judgment, not one who is the pawn of others.

Bullwinkle doesnt want Palin back in Alaska   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Does anybody think she should do the same thing with her position of being a VP candidate. Stevens was at least qualified for his position cant say that about her HHHMMMMMM

Helena   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Next please?

Eight is enough ...   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

What a dunce – as governor – she should have said this yesterday … but it figures given she is part of the Alaskan "machine" like Ted … as Warhol says 15 min of fame – hopefully she disappears after next Tues … wishing and hoping …

BKoi   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

What took her so long ! Oh, I forgot, she's a MAVRICK ! What a joke this person is ! She's just another "say anything, do anything" to get elected twit !!! . I hope the American people can see past "the hype", and see who she really is, a right wing, religious fanatic, feminist, not feminist, vicious , and yes, SNARLING PITBULL , in lipstick.

Adam, Plano, TX   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

when is Palin going to resign? she doesn't belong on the VP slot, nor does she belong in the governors seat.

Mary   October 28th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

hey palin….now that stevens has been found guilty it is your turn. same construction company built your house as a kickback…how are you going to lie yourself out of that one. and just yesterday you weren't asking stevens to step down, but today you have had a change of heart. This is your mentor we are talking about. your hero. who are you really palin. i have heard "who is the real obama", well i can't wait to find out who the real palin is.

Disappointed   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

How is this much different than the Alaskan court ruling that she acted unethically. This should be the biggest story of the campaign right now. She was found guilty – Where is your coverage of this CNN. This is huge

ANGIE   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

But didnt she abuse her power shouldnt she step down and violating Ethics hopefully she will get impeached in Alaska!

kjb   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

I suspect that Governor Sarah Palin has her sights on being the next Senator from Alaska. The revealing phrase about Palin's call for the resignation of Senator Stevens is "Even if elected…". If Palin cannot be VP and serve as the "President of the Senate", then she will get herself elected to the Senate as Senator from Alaska.

Ted   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

She's a mess! She didn't resign herself after she abused her power

Bill   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

This seems to be a common theme with Alaska politicians…they're found guilty of corruption, but they continue to run for public office. Weird.

Pete   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

My wife has an interesting theory. It is…McCain and Palin lose on Tuesday. Stevens steps down. A special election is held and Palin becomes Stevens replacement in the Senate.

Mel of Alexandria, Virginia   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

What is Palin going to do about Palin's abuse of power.

sms   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

She needed time to think about these comments. Probably walking a fine line, because she knows she could be next.

Can't wait for Caribou Barbie to be sent back to Alaska. Not even sure the Alaskans want her back. The Anchorage paper endorses Obama and calls her "risky" .

Can't wait for Nov 4 th to get here so we no longer have to listen to her lies, not even half truths, downright lies. What goes around comes around. Better duck Sarah.

Republican for OB   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

It is funny that Palin is asking Stevens to resign .She has to resign first and ask him to resign OR just keep quiet.

1ST PALIN FOUND GUILTY, NOW STEVENS??   October 28th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

I think she's absolutely right. And she should step down too. As Governor. She betrayed the people of Alaska. She abused her power and was in clear violation of Alaska Ethics Laws when she allowed her husband to use her office to have a State Trooper fired. Shame on her.

The Voice   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Does this mean she is going to resign next????

Accountability   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

What a Maverick…she didn't call for his resignation until McCain did..way to buck the good old boys Sarah….what a fraud….

Gene   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Guess the pressure got to her. What would be funny is if Stevens called to Sarah Palin to resign since she's been found guilty of breaking Alaska's ethics laws.

Flo   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

It took almost 24 hours for her informed opinion, while Americans knew right from wrong instantaneously. Politicians operate from a different moral level…………….what ever can get them elected.

proud army and navy mom   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

dum, dumb was just saying this morning that she did not know whether to vote for him and hours later, she's calling for his resignation.

I guess Palin just received her talking points. I wonder if she has any self-esteem left after dealing with mcbush.

Barb   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. If my nephew was shot by a trooper with a stun gun he should have been fired. Sarah did the right thing in trying to get him fired. Go Sarah Go. I've been a Democrat all my life but after Obama stole-yes stole the nomination from Hillary, I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher. Shame on all of you female haters.

Barb

WannaBe Maverick?   October 28th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

The Maverick finally speaks on the issue IN HER STATE! She had to first find out how Daddy McCain would directed her. Palin is a wannabe Maverick. She cannot make critical decisions on her own, nor can she make simple ones like what clothes she will wear. Stevens will not step down. The Senate must tell him to do so. Palin is not asking the Senate to do so. Palin is a pu**y, not a pitbull.

The Jellyman   October 28th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

It doesn't matter who asks him to resign, it is still the right thing to do. I don't care for Gov. Plain any more than most of these comment posters do, but do we have to demonize her for everything single thing she says or does? Remember the part where we have to start reaching across the aisle after Tuesday? Ease up, already, folks.

RC   October 28th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

i noticed that mccains body language is a lot like hitler. Another ranting idiot.

M.   October 28th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

AGREE. Stevens – why don't you ask Palin to step down? sarah Palin has also been accused for excepting free travel for her and family from oil companies. Also the travel expenses she submitted reimbursment for her and her family for traveling with her on NON business travel.

rachelbsw   October 28th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Of course, she said it herself, she wants to allow a special election so she can appoint a Republican. That it way better than letting a Democrat win. Sarcasm.

He was the one who wanted to rush the trial so that it would be over before the election, he lost. He has to live with his decision. If he had stepped aside months ago, you would have been able to put another Republican on the ticket who would have had a chance.

Deal with the consequences of your actions.

j. williams   October 28th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Isn't this the pot calling the kettle black? Hello Troopergate! Didn't she also try to charge the state of Alaska for her children's travel expenses to functions they weren't even invited to?? Hmm…..smells like hypocrisy to me! Not only that, but apparently Caribou Barbie had to check in with McCain yesterday before she could give her response today.

NYC Hillary Supporter   October 28th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Yea, because she wasn't found guilty recently as well or anything… Is this woman crazy? Well, yea she is.

Tee   October 28th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Palin is going to run for this office. This was planned to give her more credibility for the 2012 ticket against Senator Hilary Clinton. These republicans are too transparent.

Truman   October 28th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

I wonder if she will be so inclined if/when she is found guilty by her Personnel Board investigation. Seriously, would she stand beside Stevens and defend him? All this means is that she's not disobeying ALL of her orders from party central.

Jatovi, NC   October 28th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Wait, wasn't she the first one to come out saying to lay off this guy????

What a puppet on strings this woman has become- it's really sad. You know she's only asking for his resignation because McCain did so. She wouldn't have done it on her own, because she doesn't want to appear "rogue"…

She's not going rogue! She's going Stupid er!!!

Spencer/VIRGINIA   October 28th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

The audacity of this woman. I guess she still thinks that abusing power isn't illegal. Besides for Troopergate, isn't there more scandals involving this bimbo.

Ms. Palin. After being found guilty of abuse of power, I would have hoped you would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering your governing of Alaska.

beattieblog   October 28th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

"Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress." Wow, I can't imagine who Sarah thinks should take his U.S. Senate seat even if he wins next Tuesday…who could she POSSIBLY have in mind?

David, Silver Spring, MD   October 28th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

Palin is Governor, Stevens is Senator. He may not outrank her, but she certainly doesn't outrank him. Is it appropriate for her to make statements like this?

Suppose Stevens said Palin should step down because of her own ethics violations related to Troopergate.

JL   October 28th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

Palin had to say something condemning Stevens for her own political survival. Afterall, she is trying to become the head of the Senate, or is it VP, I forget.

Robin in SC   October 28th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Muz   October 28th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

I thought Palin was gonna vote for him. I guess the GOP told her to call Stevens for resignation.

Steve   October 28th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

His voting rights should be stripped let alone hold a seat in the senate.

Francis, Hawaii   October 28th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

How can Palin make this statement as she also was convicted of abuse of her power as governor in the troopergate decision. How come she does not resign her position as Governor of Alaska and also as the Vice President with McCain. One crook making a comment about another crook.

kathy   October 28th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Palin may be the next one to step down. She was found guilty of abusing her power as governor. The investigations should continue and all the corrupt politicians should be fired, charged and jailed. the american public wouldn be under the jail should anyone of us tried anything like this~

Accepting and not reporting gifts is less a crime than power abuse. If Sen. Stevens should step down, so should Palin; and so should many other governent appointed individuals whose vices and corruptions are yet to be dug out.

ANDY DAAS   October 28th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Sarah you are only saying that because it's election season.

Palin should step down herself. She makes it hard for us to defend McCain, especially with her very close ties to the Alaskan Independent Party. She has no business condemning her mentor when she has her own ethics problems

Amy   October 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

And, for the good of our Country, I suggest that you, Gov. Palin, resign as the VP candidate, because anybody with a brain knows that you are completely and totally unqualified for the position!

Sarah, what were you wearing when you made this decision?

Hm-m-m lets see… Palin's house was built at about the same time as that Wasilla skating rink…you know…the one that isn't on property that the city had clear title too… Anybody check into whether kick backs built the house? Maybe it'sthe Alaskan way…

Republican for Obama   October 28th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

WASHINGTON — Millions of homeowners facing foreclosure got a bucket of ice water in the face from Senator John McCain March 25.“The mess you are in is your own fault. Don’t expect any bailouts from me.” That was the GOP presidential nominee’s message, stripped of election-year rhetoric.

Speaking to small business owners in Los Angeles, an epicenter of the housing crisis, McCain said, “It is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly whether they are big banks or small borrowers.”

MD for Obama   October 28th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

How about her resigning since she was found "guilty" in the troopergate investigation of abuse of power, event though she continues to boast that she was cleared. It's just another example of if you say something often enough you may get some people to believe it.

Sorry, too late. She should have said it yesterday. Now, ALL OF A SUDDEN, after McCain asked him to stop down, she wants to follow suit. What a pathetic loser.

Does this mean Palin "pals" around with convicted criminals? She is such a hypocrit, she needs to step down as well. Did she forget she was found guilty of abuse of power? She needs to step down.

Oh, didn't she get her house built for free?….hmm,

Attention Mccain Supporters…

Have any of you been having a hard time trying to post anything positive about Senator Mccain on this site?

Yesterday, I tried to respond 16 times to a lady who kept asking why I would vote for John Mccain…and CNN didn't post any of them.

Is CNN purposely censoring any opposing view or is it just my comments for some reason? It seems every comment on here is praising Sen. Obama and ripping Sen. Mccain apart. That is hard to believe since the polls are so close.

Just wondering…I would hate to think such a reputable MSM organnization would resort to this…but I have no other answer.

EDW   October 28th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Deb,
Palin couldn't say anything yesterday because she had to wait to see what her campaign wanted her to say. Palin is a puppet.

Rob Doubleday   October 28th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Too bad she did not have the courage to answer this way the first time she was asked.
Seems she had to wait and see how McCain wanted the question answered.
This says something about her judgement, and it is not good.

Jenna   October 28th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

CNN post this !!

Obama wants to burn the plank on both ends for small business (that's the majority of companies in America).

If you raise the min. wage and tax the business more, who suffers?
Everyone

Goods and services cost more.
Small business will fail and we will import more that costs less.
Jobs will be lost.
Tax revenue will be lost.

Your future will be lost.

Do not vote for Obama, he is not for you, he is for absolute power !!!

Tired of the Nonsense   October 28th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Palin has some nerve…..after Troopergate (which is still under investigation and could still result in charges against the VP candidate) she really needs to keep her mouth shut on this one.

….and here's one more tidbit of info you McCain/Palin supporters might not be aware of:

In its recent endorsement of Obama in the presidential contest, the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, called Palin "too risky" to be one step away from the Oval Office. "Like picking McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," the editors said.

The newspaper's editorial board concluded that Obama "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."

I normally don't like McCain-Palin, especially the Palin half, but this is a really stand-up move on her part. Of course she will seat a republican until the winner of next week's election takes over in January, but this is still a bigger positive than anything out of the McCain-Palin camp the last couple days.

Chris (SC)   October 28th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Wonder how long it will be until Stevens rats out Palin for something illegal she did with Stevens? I also don't see the difference between lying about troopergate and bringing your family along for free trips when they weren't supposed to but I guess there are worse things she could do, like win on Nov. 4th.

Sad part is he will probably still win up there in Alaska despite being convicted of corruption. Please Alaska voters show all politicians a lesson, you can't do bad things and keep your job.

D&D   October 28th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Matt in Virginia   October 28th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Sarah Palin's signature accomplishment — a contract to build a pipeline from Alaska to the Lower 48 emerged from a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration, an AP investigation shows. Maybe you should resign for abuse of power…

Gil Middlebrooks   October 28th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

I can see it now. Sen. Stevens wins on Tuesday. Sen. Obama wins. Sometime later, Sen. Stevens sees the light and resigns. The Governor of Alaska gets to select someone to fill the seat until a special election. The Governor of Alaska selects herself and off we go again.
