Palin calls for Stevens to resign

Palin says Stevens should step aside.
Palin says Stevens should step aside.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said Tuesday Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens should resign his Senate seat, in a statement released hours after John McCain made a similar declaration.

The comments come a day after Palin would not say what she thought the best course of action for the recently convicted senator should be.

"After being found guilty on seven felony counts, I had hoped Senator Stevens would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering his Senate seat," she said in the statement. "He has not done so. Alaskans are grateful for his decades of public service but the time has come for him to step aside. Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress."

She should have said that when he was first indicted. If she is really this firebrand against corruption even in her own party, then she should have requested this from day one. I don't think that she is up to cleaning house as much as she claims to be.

Sarah should be careful. Eventualy when people start getting some answers about her home and who paid for it, her words may come back haunt her.

What the hecks going on up in Alaska?? You have Governor Palin found guilty of violating state ethics laws, abusing her power and staining the Governors office. Now Senator Stevens is a conviceted felon??? I thought Chicago was the home of dirty politicians? Oh it's that white privilege thing again huh? Forgot about that. Juneau does have a lot of snow, that's for sure.

Should she do the right thing next? Why isn't "Troopergate" or Todd Palin's involvement in a group that wanted to seperate Alaska from the U.S. ever been talked about for more than one minute? Seriously; how hypocritical can you get! 7 more days of vacation for the family and then back to your home up north! OB08!

If Stevens should step down for failing to report gifts, shouldn't Palin step down for abusing her office to pursue a matter of personal revenge, and shouldn't McCain have stepped down for his involvement in the Keating 5?

    I heart hypocrites. ;)

Well, if Palin is in charge of the Senate, can't she just dismiss him if she's elected?

But, Gov. Palin, will YOU vote for Sen. Stevens in the election over his Democratic opponent??

My guess is "yes" and I also think that if, by some miracle or the stupidity of the people of Alaska, he wins, Gov. Palin will nominate Sarah Palin for the Senate seat.

Oh gee! you don't think this self serving ego maniac is referring to herself as a "true representative" for senator from Alaska do you? This woman has been living off the Alaska tax payers since taking office while hiding under technicalities of not breaking any laws. Hey Sarah ever hear of ethics, morals, doing the right thing? Get a grip once you lose this election you are history, your gimmick didn't work.

This is what is going to happen. Sen. Ted Stevens will end up resigning, Sarah Palin will run the sit and win. She will hope that, that will be her spring board to the presidency in 2012. Of course she is wrong. No 2012 for her

She's nothing but McCain's puppet. Yesterday, she says nothing about Stevens resigning, probably because he's helped her lobby Washington for her projects in Alaska. Now that McCain calls on him to resign, Palin chimes in with a "yeah, me too!"
