Palin calls for Stevens to resign

Palin says Stevens should step aside.
Palin says Stevens should step aside.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said Tuesday Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens should resign his Senate seat, in a statement released hours after John McCain made a similar declaration.

The comments come a day after Palin would not say what she thought the best course of action for the recently convicted senator should be.

"After being found guilty on seven felony counts, I had hoped Senator Stevens would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering his Senate seat," she said in the statement. "He has not done so. Alaskans are grateful for his decades of public service but the time has come for him to step aside. Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress."

Right, but the Alaskan jury that found YOU guilty of ethics violations was a partisan "witchhunt," right Sarah? Well, given her wingnut church, I guess she would know...

Any Republican who complains about Obama's "Chicago-style" politics should look to Alaska for comparison. Young, Murkowski, Stevens, and now Palin–all of them completely corrupt.

why did she wait so long to make a statement?
sen. stevens' feelings and this notion of being "statesmen-like" should not be a concern of gov. palin's. the senator flat out got caught accepting bribes and should have been admonished by the mccain campaign as soon as the verdict came down.
sen. stevens is too old to get into these shananigans; dude made his bed and now can lie in it.

Well, a bi-partisan investigation proved that Palin was guilty of breaking ethics law......why doesn't she step down?? Oh that's right.....we're all supposed to act like that didn't happen. Also, she worked on Stevens PAC committee and was a big supporter. Watch out everyone......she's a backstabber. Don't think I want her working with other nations.

Hey – she abused power – she should do the right thing and step down too. What a joke. I think someone needs to investigate all the stuff going on in Alaska. Maybe they have been left to their corrupt ways TOO LONG.

Democrats failings = Affairs and lying about them (Clinton, Mahoney, Spitzer, ect...)

Results: At most, a failed marriage, and another pissed off individual.

GOP failings = Misuse of their elected official power (W, Palin, Stevens, ect...)

Results: $300+ billion war, thousands of dead soldiers, Oil companies making record profits with $4.00+ gasoline, ect...

    Whom would you rather elect?

    Vote Democrat '08

Interesting . . . so should Palin follow her own advice and also do the statesmen-like thing and resign from her campaign for being found guilty in her abuse of power case?

What would be interesting to see is further investigation of Palin's connection to the same contractor who did the pro bono for Stevens.

I can see it now. Sen. Stevens wins on Tuesday. Sen. Obama wins. Sometime later, Sen. Stevens sees the light and resigns. The Governor of Alaska gets to select someone to fill the seat until a special election. The Governor of Alaska selects herself and off we go again.

Sarah Palin's signature accomplishment — a contract to build a pipeline from Alaska to the Lower 48 emerged from a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration, an AP investigation shows. Maybe you should resign for abuse of power...
