(CNN) - Embattled community organizing group ACORN is taking the offensive with a new ad targeting Sen. John McCain and the Republican Party, accusing the GOP presidential nominee and his party of attempting to intimidate voters.
The new ad, entitled “Not This Time,” is shot in black-and-white and features an African-American man who ages before viewers’ eyes. “It happened to him in 1960, 1965, and again in 2000. He was intimidated so he wouldn’t vote,” an announcer says as a traditional Southern hymn plays. “Tell John McCain: not this time,” the announcer says as the ad ends, and the phone number of McCain’s Capitol Hill Senate office appears on screen.
“Senator McCain needs to instruct his operatives and supporters to cease and desist. Nothing is more important to the fabric of our democracy than protecting the rights of American voters,” said Steve Kest, ACORN’s executive director, at a Wednesday press conference where the ad was released.
In a statement issued Wednesday about lawsuits recently filed in New Mexico, Sean Cairncross, the Republican National Committee’s Chief Counsel, said the only voter suppression has been that directed at false voter registrations.
The McCain campaign also swiftly responded to the allegations of suppression in the new ad. “I am not sure how any allegation relating to what might have happened 48 years ago has any relevance to the McCain campaign,” former GOP senator John Danforth, the co-chair of the McCain campaign’s Honest and Open Election Committee, said on a conference call with reporters. “Our response is that any kind of intimidation or suppression is illegal, it’s reprehensible, it is condemned by the McCain campaign, it has been condemned specifically by Sen. McCain himself.”
ACORN says the new ad will air 48 times on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The group said it is hoping to raise enough money to continue to air the ad through Election Day.
Not the one, hurry and go to Fox News with the rest of your single minded friends. Intelligent and informed voters know that CNN is the only station to turn to for fair and balanced coverage.
GREAT AD! I LOVE IT!!!
I really feel bad for those people who are backing McCain because he says Obama's going to raise taxes...
WAKE UP! Nothing is going to get done in our current economic status without money, it's going to come from somewhere... So unless Palin sell's Alaska to Russia whoever ends up winning will HAVE to raise taxes. (Unless you don't want anything to get any better...)
Come on CNN. I know for a fact that a man named Leroy has given my address so he can vote. I called and found out where he will be voting and I will be there to make sure even if I have to stay all day. How do I know he used my address? Well I keep getting these democratic mailings with his name on it. I know who he is but he has never lived here. I have lived here for 30 years. You go ahead and vote and I'm gonna smack you and ACORN for voter fraud. I know it's not voter fraud until you vote. I hope more will be at voting areas to watch these fools. Leroy I'm gonna get you if you use my address.
Tell ACORN you don't elect a President feeling entitled to rig voter registration just because Obama feels entitled to be President.
Hey ACORN, 1 vote 1 person, not 50 votes 1 person.
Catholic for Obama: I thought your priest taught you better. You kinow in your heart you should not vote for someone that would kill a innocent baby. Shame on you
McCain and Palin have no backbones and are acting desperately. If they want to point fingers to "terrorists", why don't they do so face to face with those people and inform the FBI of their presence in this country? If they are living here legally, what does it matter if they are friends with Obama or anyone else? Obama is different from McCain and Palin in that he doesn't have to be deaf to other people's ideas. McCain and Palin want to play McArthur? How stupid are they to keep playing this card against their opponent? Talk about your own policies for economy, national security if you will, McCain and Palin. Don't be liars and cowards. No one listen to you anymore. How can you govern this great country of ours?
I wonder who is putting out those official-looking flyers in Norfolk, VA, announcing that in Virginia Republicans vote on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and Democrats on Wednesday, Nov. 5? And who might be telling students that they will lose insurance and pay higher tuition if they vote in their college towns? And who might have spread the rumor among other college students that the police will be at polls checking license plates against outstanding parking tickets and towing cars? These are just some of voter suppression efforts underway in this election. Who puts "Country First?"
Hey lilly i thought you were smarter than. please tell on what bases you cast that vote? must be interesting

You gotta love Acorn, Sharpton, and Jackson. If they stop ponding racism into your head, they're out of business. Most people seem to be coming around to that, but not everybody.
Republicans are stupid if they think that ACORN iussues voter registration cards. Thats up to elected county clerks and others elected officials in state office,
I think some folks need to be more informed about Acorn and it's history – including being behind the push for the criteria for obtaining mortgage loans being reduced to a point that credit and payment history didn't mean much and now we have a foreclosure crisis. It's coalitions like Acorn that were behind these "boutique" types of loans being created and now they are a national problem. Oh – and did I mention that Obama was employed by Acorn as a lawyer before he ran for Senate?? That's right – Obama can point all the fingers he wants to at the Bush administration but he was behind the push for these bad loans to be made.
Lou Dobbs(a Rightwinger in hiding) and the GOP really like to talk about ACORN. Yep, it is a bad thing. ACORN does not look good but neither does voter purging in most of these battleground states that are leaning Blue now. Hmmmmmmmm...this voter suppression thing sure does sound familiar.
Put the puppet on the defense, so he can't spend so much time attacking. Excellent!
Here is the REALLY funny thing.. In order to be a manager at McDonalds.. you have to have more experience than Obama has.. LOL
McCain and Palin supporters have nothing but hate now. We can thank McCain and Palin for that one. Can any of you McCain supporters tell me the difference between McCain's economic plans that are different than Bush??? Anyone??? I didn't think so. All you have is negative. You have all the wrong reasons not to vote for Obama, but no right reason to vote for McCain. Obama inspires to unite our country, McCain inspires to divide.
Tom Brokaw: Sen. McCain, what is your economic policy?
McCain: My friends; Obama; ACORN; socialist; Ronald Reagan; Marxist; wealth spreader; palling around with washed up terrorists; Herbert Hoover; Rev. Wright; maverick; Rezko; flip-flopper; took on oil companies; ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Tom Brokaw: Senator, Senator?
McCain: Huh? What? Did we win? Huh? Huh?
I see why their doing this... trying to win the PR battle. But they would be better off probably if they kept stuffing the ballot box for Obama. Obama needs those votes and they should keep cheating for him and lay low on the PR stuff, that's a can of worms they should leave alone.
If you make under $44,000 and pay no income taxes, vote for me and I will give you a tax rebate!!
Obama in 2008 where every vote can be bought!!
People, here's the ACORN scoop.
They try to register people to vote. Their employees make bonuses for every person they register and inform the HQ about. So, some employees made up some fake names and then told the HQ that those ppl were registered and received a bonus, before these employees got caught. So, those people who were falsely registered don't exist and wouldn't have effected the vote anyways. ACORN, like every employer, had some bad apples. This isn't, as McCain would like us to believe is "one of the greatest frauds in voter history". And as to the full extent of Obama's relationship, he just represented the company in a case some years ago. That's it.
I'm glad they're fighting back now. They stand for something good, and that African American man's story is the truth!
Facts are facts...their volunteers registered people illegally.
Why do liberals continue to justify this?
To all of you blaming the media for Mccain looking negative, did you ever think it may be because MCCAIN IS A FOOL!?!? Noone needs to say Palin is ignorant and unqualified, she displays it well without any help...
