Palin's criticized Obama's ties to Palestinian professor Rashid Khalidi.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (CNN) – Sarah Palin thrust Barack Obama’s relationship with a Palestinian academic into the national spotlight on Wednesday at a rally in Ohio — a tactic reminiscent of her repeated attempts to tie Obama to former radical William Ayers.

Palin kicked off her rally in Bowling Green by stressing, as she always does, that “it is not negative campaigning to call someone out on their record.” In recent weeks Palin has used that line to open up an attack on Obama’s tax plans. On Wednesday, she tried something different.

“It seems that there is yet another radical professor from the neighborhood who spent a lot of time with Barack Obama going back several years,” Palin said. “This is important because his associate, Rashid Khalidi, he, in addition to being a political ally of Barack Obama, he's a former spokesperson for the Paliestinian Liberation Organization.”

Khalidi — whose name Palin mispronounced — is currently a leading scholar of Middle Eastern Studies at Columbia University, and was a contemporary of Obama’s while on faculty at the University of Chicago.

Khalidi has been a stern critic of United States foreign policy towards Israel and has accused the country of “occupying” Palestinian territories, but he has denied acting as a spokesman for the PLO.

The Los Angeles Times reported in April that Obama praised Khalidi at a 2003 going-away party for the professor when he left Chicago. The McCain campaign has pressured the Times to publicly release a videotape of the event, but the newspaper has refused, citing the request of a source.

Palin said the public has a right to know what Obama said at the event.

“And the twist here is that there's a videotape of a party for this person, back in 2003, a celebration of him, and Barack was there, and we know some very derogatory things were said there about Israel and America's support for that great nation,” Palin said.

“And among other things, Israel was described there as the perpetrator of terrorism instead of the victim. What we don't know, what we don't know is how Barack Obama responded to these slurs on a country that he now professes to support, and the reason is the newspaper that has the tape, the Los Angeles Times, refuses to release it.”

Palin accused the Times of being Obama’s “pet newspaper” and said the paper would win a Pulitzer Prize for “excelling in cow-towing.”

The Republican vice presidential nominee was joined at her Ohio rally by Joe Wurzelbacher, known to the world as Joe the plumber. It was the first time the celebrated small business owner has appeared with Palin on the stump.

Palin described Wurzelbacher as “a fellow Alaskan” because he once lived near Fairbanks.

One certainly couldn't accuse Palin of having ties to any professors.

Peter in San Antonio   October 29th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Man these idiots are getting desperate. It's time to show the Republicans that they need to stop picking stupid people to ruin (I mean run) their party. Just get out there and vote for Obama to send a clear message. I just did. Thank God for early voting.

When will McCain understand, that the more this woman talks, the further down in the polls he is going to go? He is fortunate this election is over in a week. A few more weeks of Palin, and he would have no votes, no honor, and a civil war left to his name.

If he would drop her from the the ticket TODAY, I may be tempted to vote for him. Now there would be a Maverick move!!!

Ronni   October 29th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Felix   October 29th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Palin, go and read some newspapers!

Amy   October 29th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Oh my goodness..is she still around. This woman has the brain of a fish & just like McCain & the rest of the Republicans will lie & steal to get this presidency. If America is so stupid to let these kind of people get the presidency..then God help us all!

Lou from CT   October 29th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Here we go again…trying to make something out of nothing…

McCain/Palin – talk about the issues and stop the CREEP-style, Swift Boat, and splatter theory attacks – if you dare.

Obama/Biden 2008

Maybe if we shut our mouths and listen to the people in the middle east, we can find out why they all hate us. The right wing nuts in this country are going top pull us down. If Obama get's 800,000 people per rally in Europe waving American flags, it should tell you something. IF YOU ARE LISTENING.

KennySFV   October 29th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

These two are desperate and absolutely, unapologetically wicked! We absolutely have to be rid of these right-wing liars next week! Obama-Biden 08!!

alvino   October 29th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

John McCain, too erratic to be president, maybe he should try in 2016.

mjc   October 29th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

ANONYMOUS: Did you even bother to do a Fact Check on McCain and Palin's lies? Well CNN did. Look under Fact Check!

The Verdict: False. What McCain is doing here, in part, is comparing apples and oranges. He compares two different aspects of Obama's tax plan as if they were the same. And Biden never said people making less than $150,000 are the "only" people who would get a tax cut under Obama's policies.

Greg, San Francisco, CA   October 29th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Ties to a Palestinian Professor?! That's Un-American! That's Treason! Ties to an Alaskan Separatist movement however is as American as Apple Pie, cheating on your taxes and lying to Congress.

ran   October 29th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Enough is enough. People vote for Obama/Biden and in such #'s that there can be no doubt who we want as our next POTUS.

McCain/? and other hateful/fearful/racist Republicans need to be kicked out of our politics.

Linnae   October 29th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Obama and all his elite professor friends! Why can't he just be friends with more plumbers?

Cynthia   October 29th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Yes, I'm voting for the
Marxist Socialist Arab Muslim who pals around with terrorists Ayers and Khalidi and uses drugs in Rev. Wrights Church with Father Pfleger and Louis Farrakhan.

McCain and Palin stop taking your talking points from Sean Hannity. We all know he is an uneducated idiot.

I really can't believe this is their closing arguments.

What idiots.

Linda K.   October 29th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

If McCain and Palin get elected will we see a purge of academics, libraries, and universities? The Khmer Rouge and Mao's China did just that. It seems like the Republicans value ignorance over knowledge. Just an observation.

ConsiderThis, FL   October 29th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

There are simply no more words to describe this scurge. Palin is the most radical politician ever allowed to have access to a microphone. Everything about her is crap! We're sick of her!

Dianne   October 29th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

So when will Sarah present her plan to help the economy? Trashing the opponent and constantly digging for more dirt is not the way to promote your party. We want to hear some positive plans in detail about how she plans to operate when/if she and McCain are chosen to lead this country. Maybe she and McCain aren't communicating enough to talk about it!

The Devil   October 29th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

mjc   October 29th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

So let me see if I have this right…….
McCain funded Khalidi's Organization in the amount of half a million, he embraces Watergate criminal Gordon Liddy as a friend, his Transition Chief William Timmons aided Saddam Hussein in Lobbying efforts, he was involved in the Keating scandal, and continued to receive campaign contributions over the years from Keating. Sarah Palin has been found guily of Ethics Violations of Abuse of Power and has more Ethic complaints filed against her in the state of Alaska, and her husband was a AIP member and she is an AIP supporter.

Country First?   October 29th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

John McCain touts a country first mantra, then 'picks' the most
unqualified venom spewingwoman to be VP. How are they going to protect us? How is
SHE going to protect us? The qualifications for Vice President are the
same as the qualifications for President. Sara Palin is not qualified for
either position. Goodness help us if McCain is captured AGAIN while
he is asleep in the white house. His judgement did allow him to crash
three planes after all. How will they protect us. People who vote for
Palin would be aiding and abetting the destruction of our country. At
least Obama and Biden have been properly vetted.

Would somebody please talk about the Palin's connections to the AIP???????

Can't wait!   October 29th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

This is so funny!!

The McCain camp isn't very smart..the more attacks they make, the bigger the lead Obama gets in swing states and national polls.

I guess McCain and Palin want Barack to win because they are making themselves look worse and worse. They don't even talk about how they're going to solve the nation's economic problems.

All attack, no substance.

It's pathetic.

What happened to the results of the depositions that she and her husband gave last week? Does anyone remember that she has broken the ethics laws that she swore to uphold? Does she plan on going to church this Sunday. They need to put some really thick pillows beneath those knees because she will be there a long time asking for forgiveness for the lies that she has told these 7-9 weeks.

mjc   October 29th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

On Aug. 17, Palin’s church, the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, who described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity. Brickner stated:

"Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can't miss it."

Palin was in church that day and sat through the Sermon.

I can hear her whiny dimwit voice every time I read quotes from the Alaskan moron. The Repubs need to stop with their anti-intelligence stance. I know it appeals to alot of your base but our forefathers built universities with the intent of having the best and brightest come out of these institutions and lead the country. They did not intend for the country to be led by idiots. You need to stop trying to place your opinions and religious beliefs on the same level as scientific fact. They are not equal. I'm sure Palin was a vocal and adequate member of the PTA but this is the big leagues and she isn't . If this is the future of the Republican party, then the future is dim. As in dimwit.

Have been reading the "Alaska Daily News" (which, by the way, endorses Barack Obama) ALOT lately–this woman is so corrupt herself, and the Alaskan people know it…BIRDS-OF-A-FEATHER-FLOCK-TOGETHER! The now FELON Republican Senator Ted Stevens has been Palin's mentor, endorser, and Washington pork barrel advocate for Alaska (oh, what is she to do now?). 10% of Palin's campaign contributions came from the Bill Allen's VECO, Palin and the "first dudes" home was built by "him and his buddies"; because of promised contracts Palin was able to give pertaining to the Sports Arena (where her son Track played ice hockey)! Bet everyone would like to have a "HOCKEY MOM" like that!
WHERE ARE PALIN'S MEDICAL RECORDS? Alaskans question why Bristol was out of school for 6 mos with "mono"…then Trig showed up!?!
This woman is a vile, pathetic, narcissistic individual…which is why McCain selected her–he can RELATE with her.

NO……….ONE KNOWS.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THESE TWO IDIOTS SPEND MORE TIME TALKING ABOUT BARACK OBAMA THAN HE DOES HIMSELF. IF McCAIN AND PALIN WERE SMART THEY WOULD USE THE LITTLE PRECIOUS TIME THEY HAVE LEFT TO MAKE THEIR ISSUSE HEARD. TRY TO CONVIENCE SOME SWING VOTERS THEIR WAY.

So Gov. Palin gets up and repeats the lies.

Again.

She knows they aren't true. She knows darn well that they are misleading.

But she does it anyway. Yo have to look into the sould of someone who lives their life at this level, and wonder why they are willing to mortgage their reputation like this…

The haunting echos of the 2000 election, where W said whatever was needed to get elected, then just did what he wanted after that, saying instead that he had a 'mandate from the people'.

So here you go, folks. Here is your next 'Dubya'. She's likeable, and looks good on camera. She might have some trouble with words in front of the cameras, and her advisors just shake their heads when she goes 'off-script', but she's all ours!

That said, may i formally introduce the next (Vice-) President of the United States: Governor Sarah "George W Bush" Palin.

I hope you like her, America – cause if you elect her, you get what you deserve.

Jimmys Corncrackings   October 29th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

This woman has no business being on the stump much less getting such prominant seating in the media clap trap. But whatever, America is so dumbed down and scared right now it's no wonder they'll reach out to delusional thinking and evangelical talking heads.

Palin should go back to Alaska and crawl back under the rock of ignornace and obscurity so she can help her daughter raise her illegitimate child and tend to Levi's meth lab

Mr. V   October 29th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

So this is what the campaign has turned into…I am very surprise that Palin will spent her time talking about stuff like this…what is very important in the election she says nothing about …All she is trying to do is get elected and not what is important to the American people…nothing about the economy, the war, education and immigration…I'll call this a sign of desperation.

The McCain/Palin campaign is sure pushing racism to the top of the list. They are so morally corrupt. Hate begets hate.
Besides what the heck does Palin know about foreign policy. This political hack called Palin said she knew nothing of world affairs when she was governing from her house in Wasilla for over 300 days in office. Charging her fellow Alaskans to work from home. No ethics, no Palin.

There have already been 2 failed Republican administration's by George Bush. There cannot be another with McCain/Palin

Fool us once. Shame on you.
Fool us twice. Shame on me. Never again
Fool us thrice. The end is near. You bet'cha

Corey Gabriel   October 29th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

The record isn't negative, but making up lies, distortions and mis-leading statements with no factual basis, merely to create smear and fear is negative, and Palin is the queen of negative campaigning. Even in her recent policy speeches on the disabled, and today on energy, she fails to offer any specifics at all, and merely spouts platitudes…..we'll ruffle feathers, we're mavericks, we'll reform Washington, we'll take on the old boys network. When are you going to tell us how you intend to do those things Ms. Palin?

I recently read that Sarah Palin is not wearing her wedding ring becasue her hand was sore from shaking so many hands…….Does she shake left handed? She is nothing short of calling the kettle black!

The BOTTOM Line..........   October 29th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

As reported by The Huffington Post

Sen McCain also has a connection to Mr. Kalidi. cCain chaired an organization that gave Mr Khalidi money.

"In 1993, McCain became chairman of the International Republican Institute. He still chairs that respected organization.

That same year, Khalidi helped found the Center for Palestine Research and Studies, self-described as “an independent academic research and policy analysis institution” created to meet “the need for active Palestinian scholarship on issues related to Palestine.” (Its archived website is HERE.)

Khalidi was on the board of trustees through 1999.

According to tax returns the McCain-chaired IRI funded the organization Khalidi founded and served on to the tune of $448,873 in 1998 (click HERE to see the tax return)* as first reported by Seth Couter Walls at HuffPo."

tkfarns   October 29th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

One would believe that McCain and Palin do not believe that this country is founded on different races and different religions..They do not only condemn Obama in their attacks but also race and religion..So much for tolerance…It would be refreshing if either one of them could campaign on their policies..(oh wait..guess they would have to have some first) instead of attacking Obama. I am a registered independent but McCain lost me with his first lie of country first and then picking Palin

Stick to addressing how your team will fix the economy. That is what's most important right now.

Yes, in Academia on can be put together with people of other nationalities, races and political backgrounds. Happens all the time. But Academics are there to teach a subject, and do research. Two or more professors may be doing research together for academic purposes, and have strong ties to further that cause, and yet not have anything else in common.
Sarah Palin must realize that McCain is an old man, but the fact that he has no future should not mean that she should forego one of her own. Politically, for her, bad moves. Just yesterday, moreover the campaign was ready to throw her under the bus.

W. Paul   October 29th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Dear Ms. Palin & fellow christian conservatives:
Have you not read in the Bible "do not bear a false witness" is one of the ten commandments. How many times has Proverbs talked about slander, gossip? How can the world trust christians when they resemble nothing like Christ in their coversation. If you did not see the tape, hear with your own ears, but just repeating such things because your aides told you so, then it is slander, hypocrisy, lying, false witness, gossip. And even if you did, the bible says go stright to your brother and confront him so he can be restored. Not broadcasting his sin, if he committed them, for political dain. I believe that you did not expect to see some viscious attacks against you duirng the election, but that should not have changed your core principles and beliefs. You had the awesome prevelege like Esther in the Bible to model a christian women leader but you chose to espouse the very things that you have been taught. Have you not read that it is God who sets up kings and puts them down. If you truly believed it, why then these labelling? You still have a few days to correct the wrong and present a christian women's perspective. After all everything uttered on this earth will be judged in heaven. Things said in secret will be broadcast over roof tops. You will be a VP or a P for 16 yrs but eternity is a long time.

My comment is awaiting moderation:

Sara Palin is a complete oxymoron of an American. It is ironic how
she spewed her venom and incited the most ugliest underbelly of
American society, and she herself abused her power while in office.
I wonder of the bigots some of which call themselves Cristians can look themselves in the mirror this morning?
The sad part is that they probably can. McCain may have saved a tiny
bit of any honor that he has left by defending his and Palin's lies about
Senator Obama, who worked his way up to become a worthy and
patriotic American, only to be told by his fellow American, that he is the
unamerican. This should wake America up to not judge a book by
its cover. The devil just may wear lipstick.

milo   October 29th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

I take issue with both of those claims – the second is factually incorrect and the first is debatable.

McCain and Palin seem to be the only two celebrating this guy, the rest of us see him for the footnote he truly is.

redhead from toronto   October 29th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

The very thought of Sarah Palin as POTUS makes me want to throw up… she belongs on "the Price is Right" , she'd make a good gameshow host. As to Rashid Khaladi, read the whole article in Harper's, tells a completely different story, I'm surprised McCain would let Sarah even go there since he has his own ties to this man, It's all very innocent but they are trying to use the name Khaladi to paint Obama as the "terrorist" Sorry, not going to work. VOTE, VOTE early and make sure your vote is counted,

Fred   October 29th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Seriously Senator McCain:

You have less than a well left in your campaign. After that, this campaign and how you conducted it will go down in the history books.

Looking at the numbers you have very little chance of winning. Is this how you you want your campaign to be remembered? Is this how you want your grandchildren to remember you?

Many of us used to think you were an honorable man. We like to think that honorable man is still there.

Please finish this race out with some shards of your dignity left.

Calls Obama out on his "socialism" ideas, but runs the biggest "hand-out" state in the country……., She's the most popular Governor in the country yes, but every Governor would be popular if they took the profits of companies in there state and spread the wealth around…. maybe the Carolinas could spread the wealth of the Tobacco companies… etc.

McCain gave up important Military info after 4 days while a POW, that's not putting his country before his own person, is in fact treasonous. John McCain committed adultery, that's not a leader you can trust. John McCain has lived off of the American people all of his life, owns 7 homes worth 13 million, personal wealth of over 110 million, thinks being rich is making 5 million collects SS and disability. Why disability? Yet he want us to believe he knows our pains…he failed to pay the taxes on his southern CA home. John McCain has the highest absent rate in the Senate, the worst voting record for Vets and women, became a “war-hero” in an immoral and unjust war (the Vietnam War), supports another illegal war in Iraq, wants war with Iran and Russia, has no clue about economy, saying that "all in all we are doing better than 8 years ago". He says he knows how to "win" a war but has no record to back that claim up. Being a POW just means that you are one of the worst of the fighter pilots…how many US fighter jocks have lost 3 or more aircraft???? The mission he flew on where he became a POW was a bombing mission over civilian territory. This makes him a "war hero"????? John McCain is running on his war "hero" status, but he pushed legislation making it impossible for families to get info about their MIA/POWs…and still refuses to release his Military records…AND HE WANTS THE DRAFT back!!! Why hasn't CNN had a headline about this???

Frank G   October 29th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Prof. Khalidi is a professor of Mid-East studies at Columbia. A few years ago there was an investigation into his and his colleagues teaching at the ME studies programs at Columbia which was started when some Jewish students complained that the professors were criticising Israeli Governement policies, and that this made them uncomfortable since they had never heard such criticism before. The investigation was initiated by the President of Columbia who is very pro-Israel and runs after NYC Jewish donations. Yet the investigation found that Dr. Khalidi had done nothing but used their academic freedom. No anti-semitism, no lies. So the President of Columbia U. was not able to dismiss Prof. Khalidi and his colleagues. Many faculty members supported him. It is not surprising that a Palestinian-Ameican would criticise some of the policies of Israel and its harsh treatment of the Palestinians. Even some people in Israel criticize such policies (just read the Ha'aretz newspaper), and such criticism is not considered politically incorrect neither in Israel nor in Europe. It does not seem a crime for Obama to have attended the farewell party of a faculty colleague and neighbor.

To all those complaining about the new ad "attacking" missy.

The ad is only considered negative IF you agree she is a half-wit.

The ad states facts, McCrypt did say the terms in the ad and he did select Palin and she did wink during the debates.

So, if you find that as a negative then you need to look into why you think so or more importantly, why you think others will see it as negative. Otherwise, you should view the ad as free, postive and reaffirmation for the half-wit!

This is the reason McCain is doing so poorly. This antagonistic whack job as she is referred to by people in the McCain campaign is everything that is wrong with this country. The amount of lies and hatred being spewed by these two people is beyond belief.

I personally think McCain's ties to George Bush and his 'Hell yeah, I'd give Cheney and Rove positions in my administration" are far more frightening.

Rob in CA   October 29th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

What rubbish. Would Gov. Palin please address Sen. McCain's relationship with Russian aluminum baron/gangster Oleg Deripaska? After all, do we really want a president that cavorts with gangsters? Deripaska, currently under investigation in several countries, is not even allowed in the United States, but McCain found him a decent enough guy to party with on his 70th birthday….. Let's see, a Palestinian sympathetic to the Palestinians as well as a respected scholar or a Russian industrialist gangster. I guess it is a question of values after all.

When is she going to start attacking McCain?

Mr. McCain has his own connection to Mr. Khalidi. According to tax records, a foreign policy organization that Mr. McCain chairs, the International Republican Institute, gave more than $850,000 in 1998 and 1999 to a group in part founded by Mr. Khalidi, the Center for Palestine Research and Studies.

McCain authorized money for Khalidi, Obama did not.

Khalidi has been involved in Palestinian causes. Ask John McCain about that, because McCain and Khalidi appear to have some joint interests, and that fact speaks very well of both of them. Indeed, the McCain–Khalidi connections are more substantial than the phony Obama–Khalidi connections. The Republican party’s congressionally funded international-networking organization, the International Republican Institute–long and ably chaired by John McCain and headed by McCain’s close friend, the capable Lorne Craner–has taken an interest in West Bank matters. IRI funded an ambitious project, called the Palestine Center, that Khalidi helped to support. Khalidi served on the Center’s board of directors. The goal of that project, shared by Khalidi and McCain, was the promotion of civic consciousness and engagement and the development of democratic values in the West Bank. Of course, McCain is not interested in looking too closely into the facts, because they would not serve his shrill partisan objectives.

I have a suggestion for McCain, if he really digs down deep enough, he will come up with a Hyde Park figure who stood in constant close contact with Barack Obama and who, unlike Ayers and Khalidi, really did influence Obama’s thinking about law, government, and policy. He is to my way of thinking a genuine radical. His name is Richard Posner, and he appears to be the most frequently and positively cited judge and legal academic in… National Review.

You "Independent but Leaning" and Lee in CA find out the truth before you ask for a video. Do both of you have control on anyone who attend a party that you go to? Do you refused to go to your kid's school's functions because maybe someone who have issue with the law might be there?

Who is more connected to Khalidi? McCain of course, who donated a lump sum of money to an organization co-founded by Professor Khalidi.

Sarah Palin is uninformed. She needs to research her facts before she talks or maybe she should just not speak…oh, what a novel idea…Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi were colleagues at UofC…Sarah Palin doesn't even qualify to put her right toe onto the campus at this fine University where my entire family attended. Sarah Palin is so ignorant she can't even pronounce Mr. Khalidi's name correctly. Do we really need someone of her ilk representing the USA? I think not. It was bad enough when I worked in London that people asked if all Americans were like those on the Jerry Springer show but to actually have one of these people representing our country is reprehensible, at best. I hope and pray that Senator Obama wins this presidency so that once again, the USA will become the leader that the world has known and admired.

I find it amazing how she has the nerve to be out there talking about
anyone else…when she is a walking, talking felon herself…..but some people are so brash and power hungry they think they are above the law!!!!
All of this negativity that McCain and Palin have shown in their campaign will come back to haunt them and even now it will not endear a lot of voters toward them.

While McCain was chairman of the International Republican Institute, they gave grant money to Khalidi's Palestinian research center, upwards of half a million dollars. Now if this guy is so bad, why did McCain support granting this guy huge sums of money?

I'd rather have a President that had friends in the past that "might" seem questionable than a VP, poised to step into the Oval Office, who's already been termed "an abuser of Power." It's gonna take McCain-Palin a full six months to wash all the sludge off themselves after the campaign they've run.

And, on another note, since the $150,000 worth of clothes belongs to the GOP, what are they gonna do with them? Hold them for 4 years in hopes that they'll still fit? Sarah doesn't understand that the GOP doesn't BUY the stages, lighting and sound. They RENT it!

Why are we not hearing anything in the news about Palin, her husband, and the Alaskan Independance Party? Why is that not being investigated along with other allegations? If she is so willing to fling out accusations as though they are truths, where is the truth about her? Anything she says about Obama can be answered because he has been vetted. She has not. Not in the least. We know nothing about her. She has not had time to be vetted properly. Out of everything that we have heard about we know answers only to troopergate. So the one thing we do know is that she abused her power and was unethical in her behavior. That is all I need to know. After the last eight years how can anyone think that she is acceptable? HOW?

That's because she has nothing else to say. She has truly become pathetic. I was curious to learn more about her when she first stepped into the spot light but time and again she has proven she is not remotely the right person to be the VP or Pres of this country. She clearly has no morals, is a hypocrite, is unethical and a liar. How anyone can support this ticket is beyond me. Clearly we have a lot of uneducated or hateful (or both) people in this country who seem to believe their lies and spread their message of hate. All I have to say is: Karma… someday this woman (and the people of the McCain/Palin campaign) will be very, very sorry b/c Karma will come back to bite them HARD.

Do I have to be friend of the people who looks like me, agree with me, and speak the same language as me??

How can we change the world, if we secluded ourselves from those who are different?
How can we challeng them and tell them they are wrong or right if we do not talk with them??

Surprise, surprise. How about the AIP, Ms. Palin? How about your husband, Ms. Palin? How about Volger and Steven and that creepy guy in Wasilla that you helped get on the city council, Ms. Palin?

This woman makes me feel like I am drowing in her filth. Everytime I see or hear her, I have to shower.

Check out McCain's ties to Chalabi (Saddam's bag man) and to G. Gordon Liddy who advocated shooting federal agents in the head and firebombing a Washington think tank.

Also look up the definition of Terrorist in the dictionary – everything in that definition fits the McCain campaign.

So Ms. Palin…since you're so concerned about Khalidi…….why don't you talk about McCain giving him a large grant for his pro-Palestinian studies? I think that's more significant than a toast at a party…

And by the way, why aren't we talking about your husband's rather lengthy membership in a group that wanted Alaska to secede from the United States???? Somehow I find that issue more relevant than some party Obama attended.

Stop being such a divisive hypocrite……..

Diing   October 29th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

If McCain does not win the Whitehouse, it will be in part due to conservative radio talk show hosts. For the message, McCain campaign depends on the conservative talk shows who engage their mouths instead of their brains.

This leads to inconsistency and incoherency as message changes from week to another. My friend, the lack of message discipline is very telling, but hilarious. When the finger pointing begins in few days time, please do not forget to blame the conservative radio talk show hosts for driving McCain-Palin into the sideline. Who cares what was said in someone farewell party? Why would anyone expect an invited guest to be the master of ceremony? Seriously, conservative radio hosts are clueless. By the way, where is the whitey tape?

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   October 29th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I'd ask if the McCain/Palin campaign could get anymore stupid but I'm getting afraid of the answer!

Dole calls her opponent Godless! McCain/Palin have their knickers in a knot about some other college professor…

Now "Joe the plumber" (who doesn't have a license and didn't pay his taxes last year) is now an Alaskan! Bettcha Palin can still see Alaska for her home…

Ignorance can be cured but stupidity goes on forever … pathetic and desperate – not what America needs!

NYCVOTER   October 29th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Yes Canadian POV having Joe the Plumber (who again did nothing but ask a question while all you Obamabots destroy him) shows how she relates to people of this country.

And by the way, did you ever think that maybe the problem with education in this country is that we allow anyone to teach. Weatherman Underground members, PLO members, yea thats great!

I love the way Liberals come here and try to rip apart Palin and Joe the Plumber while they DEFEND people like Bill Ayers, and Rev Wright(who lives in a mansion by the way so how about that "rich white man theory Rev.?), and a former PLO member.

Dewey in CO   October 29th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

How can anyone in their right mind consider voting for McInsane and Peelin' Palin? The bottom line is that they have ruthlessly attacked Obama on everything but the actual issues. They have continuously used below-board tactics and have failed to offer any policy discussions of substance. What a sorry bunch of losers!

I also would pose this question to anyone considering a vote for McInsane and Peelin' Palin; how can you envision the US being successful with Palin in the president's seat?

Finally; (whether or not you think it is a socialist-leaning policy), how can this country let our people go hungry, homeless and without healthcare? We are the richest nation in the world and we provide aid and relief to those in other countries under the guise of humanitarian behavior – yet we let our own die from hunger, homelessness and lack of health care. We need programs that take care of our own rather than someone else's responsibities.

Any particular reason your report fails to mention that the organization Khalidi founded – Center for Palestine Research and Studies "conducted regular public opinion surveys in the West Bank and Gaza with financial support from various foundations and from the International Republican Institute, McCain's organization for promoting democracy around the world." This support was not insubstantial – over the course of the 11 years that McCain led the IRI, they provided over three-quarters of a million dollars (just over $800,000.)

I think that should be a significant part of any story about McCain and Palin's criticism of Khalidi.

And now she and McCain are desperate and the worst of them comes out.

tell the truth   October 29th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

blindsided –

blind is more like it. stop making up quotes from obama's book. your supposed quotes aren't even in there and i'll bet whatever you want that you've never even read the book. (as an aside, i strongly suggest reading "dreams from my father". it is extremely well written and thoughtful and thought provoking. i think it's better than his second book, the audicity of hope, which was written after he was in elected office).

anyway, i'm not a particularly political, but i teach literature. beware of anyone who mentions quotes from a book, but references no page number. blindsided, and others like him/her, are certain you won't take the time to read through all 800+ pages of obama's books to get the facts. so instead he/she tries to pull a fast one by distorting quotes, taking them completely out of context, or just making them up.
it's stupid and counterproductive. we all have a right to the truth. it's not fair to make up things about people and spread them. perhaps you're still in kindergarten and haven't learned this valuable lesson yet.

Canadian POV, your post sums it up beautifully! I just thought it deserved to be viewed once again:

Obaman has relationships with internationally respected scholars and the uneducated, unintelligent VP candidate tries to use that against him? What about her own affiliation with AIP? What about her abuse of power and the continuing (and expanding) investigation into her actions?

So, having Joe the fraudulent plumber by her side is supposed to give her legitimacy over a Harvard educated candidate.

And Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” And she said, “Our state constitution—it lays it out for me, how I’m to conduct business with resource development here as the state C.E.O. It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.”

Sarah Palin is getting all 'mavricky' again? This poor confused woman, I am starting to feel sorry for her, (sort of).

Please go back to Alaska and Hibernate for the Winter

How many people did Obama come in contact in his life time?
"Ayers", "Joe the plumber", "Khalidi " Who will be next ?

Hispanic for Obama   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Yet McCain funded him with $500,000 in grants.

This is the McCain camp tryin to paint nothing to nothing and using the same old Republican tactics of smear, smear, smear. Yet McCain hasnt told us where he differs from Bush on the economy. Hurry up John there's only 6 days left! Think of something quick!

I already voted in Michigan for Obama! We will be blue!

Yolanda of NJ   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

probably because he can see Alaska from his house 'also'. Palin needs to educate her self on world affairs before contributing to a conversation. I guess this was in the notes the campaign sent to her on the plane. IDIOT!!

gl, Pittsburgh   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

“it is not negative campaigning to call someone out on their record.” In recent weeks Palin has used that line to open up an attack on Obama’s tax plans. On Wednesday, she tried something different.

That right so letting the American people know about you involvement with the ALASKAN INDEPENDENCE PARTY IS FAIR GAME.! I can tell these last few days is going to get nasty!

Wally   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Yet McCain pledged hundreds of thousands of dollars of support to an organization that had Khalidi as a member.

McCain, you must stop the deperate mudslinging as it is making you much less presidential. I think it is much too late though.

Collins Agya Yaw Yeboa Siakwan   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Neither Obama nor his wife ever tried to take Alaska out of USA. Ms. Traitor, you do not deserve to be a Vice President.

teresa   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

I think Sara Palin is as dangerous as a cocked cannon. no one is saying anything about her husband being in the group wanting Alaska to succeed from the US> and she spoke to that group after she became governor. talk about redistributing the wealth, she took from the major oil companies and now residents get money from that. double standards here or what! when Obama talks about spreading the wealth, they need to look at what he means by that. although, he has explained it over and over. People that can't get it, when it's being explained, put one hand over your other ear so it won't keep going out and hopefully you can retain what he is saying! Obama "08!

Mia and Mike   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Here we go again! Give it up McCain and Palin. You two don't even have insight into what his relationship was with this person- it's only because they are Palestinian that you are even making a deal out of it by trying to scare our Jewish voters. THis is sick and you two need to stop it! John McCain, you adopted a daughter from Bangledesh- do you think it's fair to tie your family to any and every Bangeledeshian that has done something others don't agree with? I think not. Oh, and don't even get me started on Sarah Palin- I can't wait until the straight talk express drops her off back in Alaska for good!

Vote early everyone, it will make you feel so much better.

Hop for the Future   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Paula in the middle of the country   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

This simply disgusts me. Barack Obama is a good man, a good American, and all Sarah Palin and John McCain can spend their time on, is trying to dirty his reputation. What a waste of time. America is in real trouble, and we are looking for a positive leader with real goals and real truths for our country. Once again, Sarah Palin disappoints, and let's not hear her saying she didn't really want to say this stuff later—you said it, you live by it, forever!!!!!!

Staunton, VA   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

More of Palin "going rogue," as the McCain campaign likes to put it, and whipping up racist crazies. The campaign has descended into hate speech and racist rallies. It's a good thing it will be over in another week, because they're about a week and a day away from burning crosses.

If McCain can't manage his own campaign, how can we expect him to manage the country and its multitude of crises?

Matt   October 29th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

The statement "It was the first time the celebrated small business owner has appeared with Palin on the stump." is incorrect. Joe is NOT a small business owner. Please check your facts.

soccer mom   October 29th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

McCain and Palin are praying that people are stupid. If there was an appropriate tape to make their case they would have it. All those two need is four words strung together in some way that they can shape how they want. They don't have anything what so ever therefore now they are just saying they do. Unbelievable. And they say they are not more of the same. Just like the WMDs.
Palin works on dividing Americans. Now she is dividing the party. It is Palin's way or she turns on you. McCain knows that now.

Debbie   October 29th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

This woman has set women back in politics by 20 years. All she is, is a gossip smear peddler, with no learned contribution to her champaign, no desire to read and educate herself, and only the need to spread smear after smear after smear.

To all the educated politicians, I apologize for her, because she never will.

MLD ND   October 29th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Shut up already Palin. We just might have to get ahold of your AIP buddies and introduce them to the voters.

Apologies to any Oakland Raider fans: Just Wink, baby.

Nothing of substance once again.
"Khalidi — whose name Palin mispronounced"….that's par for the course for the fake hockey mom, unfortunately. She should know that her running mate also contributed money to the gentleman as well.
She did have a great spot in Obama's latest ad that just accentuates the fact that she is so unqualified. Not now, not ever.
I will pray for her to find her way into being a good Christian that she claims to be.

Lets ask Palin what she thought about the guest speaker from Jews for America that spoke at her new church. He stressed that Israel deserve every bad thing that happen and will be distroyed if they do not convert. It was Aug 15 of this year? Palin was in attendance at that service. This was just a very short time before she was tapped as McCain's running mate. It's on You Tube. She is a sheep in wolves clothing. For a woman to be this evil, praising war and devide amoung American people is Scary, Scary, Scary. If we all read our Bible the way we say we do, all of us know that GOD wants Peace and Love because we are ALL Gods children. Devision is not the answer but that seems to be the only one that McCain/Palin have.

Rex   October 29th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

There is an article in Politico today (Ben Smith) that dispells this nonsense & actually shows much closer ties between Khalidi and McCain the he is to Obama.
But the bigger issue is why is it 'wrong' to attend events with persons of opposing views? Is there anything more communist in nature then to attack people for listening to opposing views..I think not? Is this an era of McCarthyism that the McCain/Palin ticket are advocating?? Good grief, are there not enough exisitng divisions without trying to create more!! This is surely a time in our history where more diplomacy is required!

RHairston   October 29th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

@ BLINDSIDED

Do not pick and choose what to quote from Obama's books my dear. You either put it all up or none at all. You are incorrect with these pieces you chose from his books…stick to the facts and the truth. It's enough of the ugliness going on between the two parties and enough lies and bs.

You say he is not the promise of hope? What he is and what he stands for is change! and I do not know where you live at or where your from but look around and from my eye view…we need CHANGE!
*************************************************************
Learn about this man Mr. Obama. Do NOT just go along with the promise of hope… I know we all need things to be better. Obama is not the answer he promises:

From Audacity of Hope:
"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

From Dreams of My Father:
"I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."
"I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."

I'm sure Palin has no understanding of Palestinian/Israeli issues and probably hasn't read anything about this man before someone fed her these lies. Do some research before you shoot off your mouth! It just shows that his campaign is only try into be divisive and scare people. Palin and McCain are running the most horrific campaign of lies and smears. Stop suggesting that all Arabs and Muslims are all terrorists because this is the farthest from the truth. By the end of this election, everyone will know that Palin/McCain are just angry, hateful people. I hope they'll be able to live with themselves after this is over.

As a Republican I am so disheartened at how low my Party has sank. The best we have is an ignorant intolerant pseudo cult christian who squanders a hundred and fifty thousand dollars of public funds on celebrity fashion clothes at Saks Fifth Avenue. Then brags that the clothes are not really hers which means of course 'No Tax' (wink wink wink). And a Republican from Palins Alaska who uses an alias, does not pay his taxes. And lies about buying a company that makes two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year so that he can be a political gimmick on TV. So very sad indeed.

the McCain/Palin camp might want to reconsider some of their stump speeches. They are getting ready for a downpour of exposure, all of which will be more damaging than them dredging up old acquaintences. They are desparate and the american voter is fed up with their smears. If Palin wants to do something constructive, she should go back to Alaska and try to be a good mother, encourage her daughter to further her education and maybe Levi as well. Obama is stressing the importance of education fo our youth and Palin thinks it's "okay" for Levi to later get a GED……..pahleeze!….the republicans need to bow out gracefully!

It's a nationality, the same way Italian, and Israeli and Greek are for example. Why is it not ok to even talk to people of middle eastern beackground during the election? I don't understand it! I had many conversations with my neighbor who was Iranian. What does that say about me? NOTHING, but that I talk to my neighbors!!! Geez, if McCain thinks its wrong to talk to people with opposing view points and differing backgrounds he will amount to nothing should he become president. Vote for the guy who can have civil conversations with people of all backgrounds and ideologies. Vote for Barack Obama!

Ken   October 29th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Mccain met Khalidi in New york city and him and cindy mccain donated to his foundation for poor children in Palestine.

I would think the relationship didn't start yesterday as we can see…

PartyHeartyArtie   October 29th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

"Palin described Wurzelbacher as “a fellow Alaskan” because he once lived near Fairbanks."

Hey Sarah, does he owe back taxes up there as well.

kinglywarrior   October 29th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Have they changed the definition of "Maverick"? Does it now mean "Dangerously Ignorant and hateful"?

Bill,ca   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

CNN should show that vidio tape where Sarah Palin adresses the alaskan breakaway party.

She has more dirt on her heels then Obama and McCain together

What a miserable person she is, the worst in american history.

Oh well, this hate mongering will get her nowhere.

Obama / Biden 08

62 year old white woman   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

She is a total numbskull! Her running mate has more to do with Khalidi than Obama. And, Joe the Plumber is NOT a business owner…she can't even get that right. He WANTS to be a business owner!!

Sabreen60   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

What in the world was McCain thinking?? What is he thinking, now?? I and think millions of others have no respect for him. He showed no judgment in picking Palin – a person who has no moral center. At least when McCain lies, you tell by watching his body language that he's not completely at ease. Palin – she doesn't blink. She looks right in the camera and lies. She is disgusting.

jackie ohio   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Oh My god, what will they do next. just because a fellow profesor might have different in opinion then OBAMA should have disowend him. You know most friendships are not )you need to act, think, dress and eat like I do) Oh gee isn't that socialisim? think before you speak is what my grandma said

Texas Mom for Obama   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Sarah Palin, as a woman I am disgusted with how you have allowed yourself to be used by the McCain campaign! We women have come a long way, and you singlehandedly are taking us back 100 years! You knew that you didn't know anything about national or foreign affairs, and yet you saw opportunity to further your own selfish ambitions to be McCain's VP by accepting a position you have no clue about! Stand up for all women, and stop allowing yourself to be used and abused by McCain and his handlers. Confess your lies, and maybe you can return to Alaska with your dignity still intact.

Ms. GA   October 29th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Are you serious??? Why is she still talking? She doesn't know policy and McCain has clearly expressed how he knows NOTHING about the economy so all have left is lies and rumors.

Sherri   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Ms. Palin stop, please stop. You are like a small child throwing a large tantrum. Enough.

ralph   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Wurzelbacher is not a small business owner. For the love of trruth please fact check a little bit.

TD Friedman   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

If she had even the slightest idea who he was I would take this more seriously. Her speechwriters should know that she needs phonetic (that's pronounced fuh-net-ik) spelling to know what she is reading back for them.

Obama-Junkie, IL   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Palin's future with the party is at stake. Go Palin Go! The more crap comes out of this woman's mouth, the more she will end up splitting the Republican Party into two.

Has no one noticed the lack of interest in Palin's ties to the Alaskan Independence Party? The Party that wants to succeed from the U.S.!

I thought this woman was supposed to be an expert on energy. Interesting enough that she talks little about it on the campaign trail?!

kendall   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

L.A. Times is going to wait until the last moment to bust Palin's bubble, she shouldn't get her talking points from Rush and O'Reilly,
It was a going away party, what does Israel have to do with a Professor leaving one University to another University, ABSOLUTELY nothing, Palin is a puppet for the GOP and will say whatever she has to for them, because to be in her position you have to SELL YOUR SOUL TO THE PARTY

Ben Gross   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Palin can better serve our country by looking at Russia from her front porch and sounding the alarm if any commies make a move. She can be compensated with expensive wardrobe and a personal hair stylist and makeup artist.

teri   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Roll tape of Sarah Palin addressing the Alaskan Independence Party. Be sure to mention one the recent presidents claims he launched her political career by getting her on the city council. Please also mention that he had an open door policy to the Mayors office and later the governors office. CNN when are you going to quit allowing them to manipulate the main stream media with their lies.

Pillar Strength in Missouri   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

I see Palin is reading her hypocritical Bible again. I'd like to send her the Saint James Version. It might add more substance to her message and I can get the English Standard Version if she prefers! It talks about Truth. Her and The Focus on The Family Tribe must read the same perverted interpretation. I'm glad I'm not into that religion. I believe its called a Cult.

A southern girl   October 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

I'm so sick of hearing this lady talk about Obama!!!!!! We have a few more days left before Nov. 4th. Can you please talk about what you and your running mate will do for this country???? It is so true what Obama said, " when your losing or don't have any ideas you attack your opponent." What is your point Sarah!!!! Another quote from Obama, "I can take one more week of name calling, but this country can't afford to take four more years of the same policies!" These people are NOT his close Friends, get over it!!!!!!! How do you know derogatory comments where made, where you there Sarah?

Michelle, PA   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Now an uninformed comment from the fictitious Joe the Plumber is controlling the "message of the day" from the McCain campaign.

YAWN! Six more days and we get to play with the adults again.

david   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

When is airhead barbie going home to chase moose?

JoycesVoice   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Can you get Sarah to tell us about her affiliation with Alaska's Independence Party? She addressed them in March 2008 asking them to continue their good work. Here's another instance of her drag on the ticket. Better still, what about the Fannie Mae lobbyist inside his campaign. No wonder someone in their camp said she was a whack job. No wonder she and McCain have had a falling out. The second honest thing he did, admitted "mavericks" disagree. Not where I come from, they engage in constructive strategy as team players. GO MARSHALL MAVERICKS! Not you Sarah!

Unshrub   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

What a hack. People who listen to this lying bit*% are fools. McCain has a greater working relationship with Khalidi than Obama has.

DeNel - Dallas, TX   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Nov 4th can't arrive fast enough. I’m confident that most Americans wish Gov. Palin would go back to Alaska and shut the he!! up. I pray Joe the plumber and Sen McSame goes with her. How many races and cultures can they offend before leaving center stage?

No surprise why Americans are hated all over the world.

kinglywarrior   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Whatever Obama said at the event was NOT worth $450,000…which is how much MCCAIN gave Khalidi's foundation.

milo   October 29th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

"celebrated small business owner"

I take issue with both of those claims – the second is factually incorrect and the first is debatable.

McCain and Palin seem to be the only two celebrating this guy, the rest of us see him for the footnote he truly is.

Bethie T   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Looks like Sarah goofed again.

MCD, SF, CA   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I'd be willing to bet that a week or so ago, Palin didn't even know what PLO stood for (can't see that far from Alaska).

Rich in Montana   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I am sick and tired of these attacks that are racially motivated. Growing up inthe 60's & 70's made me relize that i would never want to live in a place where such hatred exsists for people of color or race. I didn't think my grand children would have to endure this. We have lost all the people who had the guts to stand up for changing this hatred. J.F.K., Bobby, Dr. King. Now the one person who can give us hope again for communication and open dialog on how to stop this prejudice and segragation come under attack by candidates who think the only way to win is through ugly dialog. I for one have had enough and america had better wake up and give Obama a try. Look what happened inthe past when we calmed down and put our trust in PEACEFULL PEOPLE not VINDICTIVE MAVERICKS!!!!

Adam   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

6 More days and she will be back in Alaska and hopefully on a short leash.

Dr Roy   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Hmmmm. I think I know why some media outlets are now shying away from Obama. Bad news doesn't sit still for very long.

LA Times – Let us see the video (unedited) and then decide. If Obama is telling the truth, then the video will reveal that. If he is not, well …

Alex from Ohio   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

What else do you expect from a campaign that is running out of ideas, running out of hope and running out of time. Both Palin and McShame are dispicable. I used to have so much respect for McCain and would have considered voting for him in 2000, but no longer, as he has clearly sold out to the right wing fanatics of his party who will do anything and say anything to scare up votes and distort the reality of the dire problems we face today in society.

Cathy   October 29th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Nov. 4 can't get here fast enough for me. I am personally sick of this woman and McDisgusting. These people are so desperate that they are throwing every disgusting lie that they can come up with at Obama. Decent folks are tired, and we will show them just how tired of them we are at the polls. Hopefully, she will be sent home to Alaska next week and McDesperate will be sent to pander which of his 7 houses he wants to go home to. These people should be absolutely ashame of themselves.

@ independent:

LA times is doing what they promised: they are not releasing the tape because they have promised the source that they wouldn't. Plus, even if they released it, McCain made a donation to Khalidi's foundation, so that would only make him look bad. Please stop trying to find weaknesses in the Dem ticket, get over your fears and start working together to fix our economy.

RO   October 29th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Does Palin know what she is saying, neither does McCain…McCain still sits on the board that gave Khalidi $500,000! Move on, folks!

Deb n Texas   October 29th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Palin you need to be tied to a professor. I'd like to know how in the hell did you get a degree. I would also LIKE TO KNOW WHY ARE YOUR KIDS NOT IN SCHOOL – BIDEN'S KID IS IN SCHOOL, OBAMA'S KIDS ARE IN SCHOOL AND MCCAIN'S KID IS IN SCHOOL? WHY?

RHairston   October 29th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I cannot wait until this is over. What is this you all's October suprise? And as a Pittsburgh, PA born and raised democratic woman, let me just tell you now that your hateful behinds have no chance at winning Pennsylvania so why you and McCan't keep coming back is beyond me!

If you haven't already voted….please make sure you do!!! We have 6 more days you guys…let's do this!!!

Eli   October 29th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Voters as well as the media should request, no, demand that Governor Palin release her medical records now.

John McCain needs to confer with his V.P. She's denouncing her own running mate!

Hoptree   October 29th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Desperate, desperate, desperate. But the sad thing is those who want to believe this garbage without any facts will still believe it. I am still getting emails from people who think Obama is a Muslim, now how long ago was that proven wrong? Give me a break.

Lucy   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

You ought to get your facts straight McMoosie, before you open your mouth about Obama's relationships. What I still want to know is WHAT, if anything, will you do for the American people? Why can't you talk issues? Stumped? cat got your tongue, or can't you even pronounce it? It's all up to you now. McSame is so feeble and reckless, he needs you. And that's a sad, sad place to be in. Just go home, McMoosie. Don't you have some mammal to kill?

Mike from Vancouver BC   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

What newspaper did you get this story from, Sarah?

Cathy Brandes   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Someone should inform Ms Palin, that Senator McCain was chairperson of an organization which donated money to Khalidi. Beyond responsible, beyond comprehension.
Ms. Palin, go back to Alaska and take care of the mess there. Perhaps Senator Stevens is not the only one who should resign.
Oh, to concerned in MA – shame on you for believing the crap the GOP is trying to sell!
To blindsided: I bet I can find quotes (or the rest of the quote you are leaving out too) – ENOUGH!

Obama has been palling around with professors! Imagine that!

Besides- what is wrong with being Palestinian?

Ben Gross   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

McCain and Palin are ridiculous. They are making accusations about Obama that are without merit in an attempt to catch up in a race that is already over.

Obama is a socialist? Face the facts folks. Our government owns stakes in Wall St and banks today! Bush is a socialist!

Beah   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

PALIN–YOUR OWN KIDS ARE WATCHING YOU TELLING A LIE TO THE AMERICANS. Please go back to school and study US HISTORY, WORLD HISTORY and CURRENT AFFAIRS. STOP TALKING ALREADY BECAUSE THE WORLD IS LAUGHING AT YOU DUE TO YOUR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. Go and make ALASKANS proud of you.

Florida Sunshine   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Does Palin ever read-up on the topics she speaks on? She makes it all up as she goes along. Does she really think that no one will correct her on her false comments. Sarah Palin is dangerous one.

Woman Against Palin   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

This woman is a disgrace to everything American. She should go live in Russia since she can see it from her state. I can't stand her and if she tries to run for President in 2012 Gold help us all.!
And that voice……….. !!! 6 more days !!!!

Vote Obama in '08   October 29th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

I think we should be more worried about Palin's intensions in '12. This women has proven herself to be someone that cares only about herself and her own agenda…. I'm from Alaska and many, many people here are insisting that Palin be impeached…. If Alaska dosn't want her anymore there has to be reasons and most Americans just haven't done their homework…. NO WAY TO PALIN…..

Yousif Auchi   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Israel is the reason Arabs hate Americans. Israel is the reason the US fails to make any accomplishments in the middle east. Israel is the reason $4.2 billion are sent yearly in the form of "financial aid." Israel is the reason 750 Lebanese children were killed in July 2006, because of the abduction of 2 soldiers.

Even if Obama does support Khalidi's statements, do you blame him? Palestine over Israel anyday.

Obama 08′

Obama once stood in line next to a convicted felon while paying for groceries. He even said "hi" to this man of darker skin. This relationship must be thoroughly investigated. Obama must opbviously feel the same way about crime as this felon.

Rob   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

When is McCain going to repudiate the comments made by his own running mate?

John   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

WOW!!! Excellent CNN/Palin/McCain in their intense research have brought to light another amazing NON-ISSUE! This is what comes from being so narrow minded that they think anyone who is slightly differently is a terrorist! Open your eyes fools!

Dennis, CA   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

@ blindsided:

Sir, you are misinformed and need to do some reading. Hope is a good thing. Without hope, there would be no life. And since when believing in a religion (Muslim, Christian, Jewish etc) is a bad thing? What is bad about someone talking about their search in life for where they belong You are not speaking so differently from skin heads? Don't we all go through that, knowingly or not? Stop your discriminatory comments please.

With that said, Mr. McCain gave $500k to Khalidi's research firm. Why when GOP speaks, they only tell one side of the story?

D from NC   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

and yet another useless attack….

jeremy   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

"And while McCain might not have known Khalidi personally, he has ties to the Palestinian as well. During the 1990s, while McCain served as chairman of the International Republican Institute, the group gave grant money to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi."

Sarah should try to read up on facts before she opens her mouth. Her running mate actually gave $100's of thousands of dollars to this man. Khalidi is not a bad person.

This is blatant race baiting by the GOP. I have friends from Palestine and they are not bad people.

The GOP has no platform for this election so they are race baiting and using fear once again. It isn't going to work this time.

MARY   October 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Poor Sarah. They still won't let her be herself. She has to read the scripts that are sent to her by the Mcdummy campaign before every campaign event.

I sure would like to see the real Sarah Palin. Who is she? I bet she wishes this election was over so she can let the American people know her. Right now she's just McCain's Robot – blasting Obama for every public appearance, dinner he ever attended.

Sarah, leave that campaign – come over to the Obama side.We will treat you with respect and dignity.

Chi4Obama   October 29th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Hmmm,
Is this the "Big October surprise", that the GOP was been warning us about for months. Give me a break.

gwen   October 29th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

For Concerned in Ma – that's all it takes for you to believe somebody is a radical terrorist is to have Sarah Palin (who can't even name a newspaper she reads) to say so!!! Get the facts, Khalidi is a prominent professor – he has had ties with both Obama AND McCAIN, just because people have different opinions then you does not make them terrorists!!! This is like the 1950's and Joe McCarthy, the repubs will start lies about someone, link them to someone else and therefore you're both guilty – of the made up lie – who would of thought America could get so low again – thanks Sarah!!

Amer   October 29th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Now i know why he chose Palin, to do the dirty work for him. she has nothing to lose.

how many top notch university professors will be dishonored for the same of this low campaign. at least they are free thinkers not like Bush, McCain and you ms. Pain.

Jim   October 29th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

For your information, Israel IS occupying Palestinian territory, documented under international law. How blind can one be?

This is disgusting.

rahepee   October 29th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I hear you, Ms. Palin, but I do not trust you. Therefore I don't believe what you are telling me about his professor is accurate. To many lies in the past. But one thing I do know. All you and your partners in crime have now is personal attacks, because you cannot defend or win on the issues. IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!!! Try to deflect McCain's "trickle down economics". Try to tell me that deregulation of the financial market is best. It won't work because you and McCain are WRONG. Democrats have always built up the infrastructure and the economy. Republicans always pi$$ it away with wars and welfare to the wealthy.

REALITY   October 29th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

McCain is a part of a comitte that donated $450K to a group founded by Khalidi! What is Alaskan for hyprocrite? Also, with six days left, when is McCain and Palin going to address real issues?

banderson   October 29th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

These people are grasping at straws. What will they call for next? This is not a new story just like the interview that Obama gave was not a new story. These people are just trying to play upon people fears in hope that it will get them elected. Doesn't this sound familar to anybody? This is the same thing the Bush administration did for 8 years, play on people fears.

McCain and Palin have really steeped to beyond low throughout this campaign. And they complain the press has been biased?! Who do they think they're kidding?! They create their own negative news stories just by being the liars they are. They are the masters at spewing mistruths, half truths and inciting skinheads. They don't care what the truth is; they just want to win at any and all costs and I find that dispicable. I couldn't vote for these people who have a total lack of integrity. I now can't believe anything that comes out of their mouths because they have lied and twisted everything in this election. I suppose the Republican Party has now been reduced to a bunch of racist skinheads now…dispicable.

"…He's a leading scholar of Middle Eastern Studies at Columbia University." If he is so reviled, why is he on staff at a prominant American university?

Ok, so the LA times are not releasing the video. But how can we verify that what McCain and Palin are saying are even true? How do we know if there was any deragatory statements made at the event? Even if so, does it mean that everyone is attendance agreed with it?? Are we just suppose to believe it's true because a candidate says so? I think these Reoublicans are hoping that the tape doesn't get released so they can continue their negative campaign against the Dems.

Canadian POV   October 29th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Obaman has relationships with internationally respected scholars and the uneducated, unintelligent VP candidate tries to use that against him? What about her own affiliation with AIP? What about her abuse of power and the continuing (and expanding) investigation into her actions?

So, having Joe the fraudulent plumber by her side is supposed to give her legitimacy over a Harvard educated candidate.

She is so vile and relies only on divisive antics to fuel her blind ambition. The world doesn't need another Rovian Puppet.

The End of Demoracy   October 29th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

I still have not heard from the MCcain ticket what makes them different from Bush. With six days left I want to know what familys can expect to be different that what they are getting now.

Is that too much to ask?

"During the 1990s, while McCain served as chairman of the International Republican Institute, the group gave grant money to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi."

How can you state that Obama can not be trusted when both candidates have so called "ties" to this professor. What exactky is McCain or Palin's point beside fear-mongering and hate.

Joe the Plumber is NOT a small business owner. He's not even a plumber. He's a handyman with big aspirations. More power to him, but he's going to benefit from Obama's tax plan for quite a while waiting for his chance to buy his bosses plumbing business.

Meanwhile, the Despicable Talk Express moves on. Still no coherent plans. Still nothing but lies and misdirection. I thank God Americans are about to give this party and those people a firm rebuke.

What's the matter CNN, my coments are not Obama loving so they can't be posted? You guys will be one of the first to feel the public wrath when this man destroys the country based on you're network wide campaign forcing people to vote for this guy.And could you tell Hillary Rosen to shut her mouthy already, the women destroyed the record industry and has no place to talk about anyone let alone Sarah Palin someone who is more of a women than the beast like liar Roesn will ever be.

You know who else calls Israel's actions an occupation? The United Nations. Palin is so uneducated about world affairs and politics it is ridiculous.

Here you go again….. One more week, she'll be out of sight.

They really have no ideas. This is all left for them. Pity!!!!!!

McCarthy rises. I hope Sarah Palin pays for this with her career. Truly, as those who see her close up have warned us, she is a whack job.

Karen Sullivan   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

McCain and Palin have really steeped to beyond low throughout this campaign. And they complain the press has been biased?! Who do they think they're kidding?! They create their own negative news stories just by being the liars they are. They are the masters at spewing mistruths, half truths and inciting skinheads. They don't care what the truth is; they just want to win at any and all costs and I find that dispicable. I couldn't vote for these people who have a total lack of integrity. I now can't believe anything that comes out of their mouths because they have lied and twisted everything in this election.
Obama/Biden 08 and Beyond!

Calofornaian_96   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Hi Palin,

Is not ypu runing mate McCain, who is the real buddy of Khalid?
McCain-chaired IRI funded the organization Khalidi founded and served on to the tune of $448,873 in 1998.

Pease do your homeowrk

William   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

They just don't get it. The Ayers smears aren't working, so lets try it again with a different name. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result… isn't that the definition of insanity?

kravitz   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Democrats, why aren't you attacking McCain on the USS Forrestal disaster, where he crashed a plane into a ship and killed 133 sailors? Don't you people read?

wycliffe, NJ   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Why do republicans hate Muslims, Spanish, Blacks, People of Color.
It is getting clear and clear that they hate other people who are not white.

m.e.   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Oh, please, just STOP! I am so disgusted with the way McCain has run his campaign. I can't wait until it is over. If McCain manages to win, it will be another four years of this "We're the only REAL Americans" junk we've been hearing from them for years. How about saying the good things you'll try to do instead of just trying to make people afraid of Obama?

Jeremy - Columbus, OH   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Palin you are obviously jealous because everyone in the above you mention has a higher IQ and education level than you do. Go back to Alaska.

Mr. Moderate   October 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

How ironic…..a core tenant of the End of Days/Rapture theology in which Ms. Palin so deeply believes calls for the extermination of the Jewish people through conversion to Christianity or war. Who is really on the side of Israel.

John and i are mavericks we know how to help you….. Get a life palin you are very nasty persoon and your future is on life line after this election

Dale K. Bethel, Oh   October 29th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Palin is not the only one to descend into this kind of disgusting finger-pointing. Politicians of every stripe have been doing this since John Adams.
My question is: Why do we elect/re-elect these "no lie is too big as long as it gets me elected" people?

ed   October 29th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I can't beleive the campaign that McCain/Palin are running, they have accused Obama of everything in the book, a terrorist, socialist, unamerican & so on . The last time that these tactics were used was before world war two when a guy named Adolf was running down the jews & calling them every name in the book & the fight speech McCain made, if it was translated into german i wonder who it would sound like. These campaign tactics don't sound like they are trying very hard to unite a already divided nation I have voted republican before but I don't even know this party now.

Connie from Indiana   October 29th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I am so happy to see the energy goddess campaigning with Joe the plumber the economist and foreign affair expert. I have a Randy the carpenter, laid off , Kim and Wes the factory worker that are afraid their plants are going to close. Why if Joe the plumber wants to buy his own company isn't he home working ? VOTE EARLY INDIANA / VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN

Rose the white woman   October 29th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

McCain had ties with same Khalidi and helped fund his organization. Palin is just hoping the American people are more uninformed than she is. Sorry Sarah. Not possible.

Janet Jacme   October 29th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

The sooner this dolt leaves the airwaves, the better. I've had just about enough of her idiotic rantings and her ugly style of politics.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

What a fearful thought that the GOP is using this dolt as the new standard bearer for a new generation of Republicans.

Another fine reason to vote for Obama–show just how much credibility this skirt wearing "Daniel Boone" really has with the average American.

We've armed Israel to the teeth, yet we refuse to let them go their own way and kowtow to their lobby as if they are some sort of political demigod.

Ignore the Israeli lobby, and let them be their own nation without our crutch. Ditto for every other nation in the world.

Lu from Houston, TX   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Division, division and division.

Palin continues to alienate the muslim communities in the US. If she was in power, would she drive them to concentration camps?

Here is a quote from Sarah Palin in the New Yorker Sept 22/08:

"And Alaska – we're set up unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the weatth when the development of these resources occur'

The article goes on to say "Alaska is sometimes described as America's socialist state because of its collective ownership of resources…
Google" the newyorker the state of sarah palin" to read the rest…

Dennis   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Just like every other day in this pathetic campaign she's running . . .

Just go away, Sarah the Clueless.

Independent White Woman for Obama   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

I am so tired of this. When will this election be over?!!!!!!!!!!! For one thing, they are making up lies again which means I need to keep my promise and donate another 15 bucks to Obama. My credit card and my psyche can't take much more of this!

Yolanda   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Still nothing about the economy from Palin. She has NO CLUE. Her only talent is to sling mud fast and furious.

Heather from Seattle, WA   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Why does this woman insist on being so darn divisive? Now is the time to do what we can to promote peace, especially in the middle east. It's just another desperate attempt to use fear and I hate to say it but racism against Obama to cover up the McCain-Palin's failure to spark support on the key issues. Why should we be scared that our Presidential Canidate is a former colleauge of an esteemed Palestinian professor? I think it's wonderful that Obama has spent his life surrounded by people from different nationalities and opinions. This is exactly what has given him the preparation to be a knowledgeable and fair leader. I think what is far more scary is to have a person like Palin, who has made it clear that to be a real "pro american" you have to agree with her and her very small and closed minded view of the world in power!!!

Vote Hope over Fear!!!

mike   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

How pathetic this woman is. Get use to her now if you so desire because after next week and God willing, she will be a pice of ancient history. Her political future will never progress because she is exposing herself as a liar every day on the campaign trail. She may be attractive on the outside, but inside there is nothing.

WhiteWomenforObama'08   October 29th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

She is a deperate person.

If the GOP, after this game changing election really, decides the way they want to go is more religious social conservative, then they deserve what ever failures she brings them.

marlin   October 29th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Palin needs to get educated before she speaks, see below:

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.)

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."

Lu from Houston, TX   October 29th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Truly desperate.

University of Chicago, like any other major universities in the US, have a wealth of international scholars. We can't tie Palin to any of them because she was never admitted to one major university.

Manuel TX   October 29th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

So, let's see the tape.

What's the big deal?

McCain gave that man Khalidi USA grant money wny Palin discussing this to the American people….Palin I wish you would back to Alaska and get impeach…Palin where your medical records because I want to know if you really had this baby I heard the baby is Brystol baby…

Palin where your medical records release them to the public

LA Clark   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Why is the McCain campaign pushing for the Times to show this tape so much? If the McCain camp believe it's that important, I'm sure they can find another copy of this tape and distribute it themselves. But, do they? No. This is just another last minute ploy by the Republicians to muddy the waters and take things out of context. Amazing!

Ben - Portland, Or   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Let's not forget….

Yasir Arafit, former PLO leader, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in '94… he shared the award with two Israeli leaders, Shimon Peres (former President of Israel) and Yitzak Rabin, for their work to bring peace to the two parties.

I'm just trying to understand the logic here…

If the leaders of Israel met with, worked with, and shared a peace award with, the leader of the PLO, then are the Israelis supporting terrorists? Are the Israeli leaders anti-Israel? Beacase it's that logic she's using with Obama and Khalidi.

M   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Obama has been palling around with professors! Imagine that!

Besides- what is wrong being Palestinian?

elaine   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

I think the smear campaign may of back fired on this one. John Mccain and the repub pary gave substainal donations to this mans organization. If they are questioning the relationship with Obama they better look at their own.

MTG   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

I simply can not believe the stuff that this woman comes up with and she is suppose to be a Christian.

Jean   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

I am so disgusted with the idiotic accusations coming from these two. Why can't you go to a going away party and say nice things about someone? Especially if the person is nice! It shouldn't matter if the person is pro-Palestinian – it doesn't mean you agree with their point of view. I like the secretary at my job but she's a staunch conservative republician who hates all thing democrat and wishes California would fall into the ocean. When she retires, I will have something nice to say about her. Trust me – Obama supports Israel and will not turn his back on her. However, he might just be the one to help bring some real peace to Israel and Palestine.

Cory   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Even if everything she is saying is true, I simply respond so what? Khalidi is a leading expert on the Middle East and Islamic relations and a professor. As president I would like to hear what he has to say and his opinions? Will I agree with them and whole-heartedly adopt them? Of course not, but the fact of the matter is he is a respected authority and deserves to be heard. I would be scared to have people like Palin and McCain in office who are simply going to shut their ears to those who have a dissenting opinion. People have to realize that the government is charged with representing all of us and that includes liberals, conservatives, christians, jewish, islamic, athiests, agnostics, and people who have made mistakes in the past. We are all Americans and every voice deserves to be heard.

cal   October 29th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Republicans. We the people of the United States are no longer afraid. You can not turn our votes by fear any longer. We are ready to stand as a nation and say we are ready to take on any challenge ahead of us. We are ready to tighten our belts, put our noses to the grind stone, work hard, play hard and pray that our nation can have a leader again. Not a bully who uses fear to manipulate. We are ready for a leader that can inspire and moblize the American Spirit that saw us through the Great Depression, WWI, WWII, the Cold War and brought Civil Rights legislation. The same spirit which took us to the moon will free us from our dependence on oil, both foreign and domestic. We are ready to fufill our destiny as set forth in the constitution that all men are created equal. We are ready to stand up and fight to protect those rights once again. You had your time to use fear to manipulate and re-write our laws. NO MORE. NO MORE. NO MORE. We are ready to elect a leader with a vision that can mobilize our American Spirit once again! Vote Obama/Biden! Vote Obama/Biden! I did yesterday!

This is factually incorrect.
"Joe" (The Plumber) does not own a business.

"Joe" is simply a plumber who dreams of owning his own business, and dreams of making enough money to be taxed at the higher rate.

Stacy Texas   October 29th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

McCain/Palin….When does it dawn on them that they are doing serious harm to the country and themselves that will linger on AFTER they lose?

Adriana   October 29th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

John McCain and Sara Palin will NEVER get out of the hole they and the Republicans have dug for themselves! Just a "last-ditch" effort to "scare" Americans! Sorry!! We won't take the bait this time!! As one grateful and thankful American to be alive, I would like continue my life! John McCain and Sara Palin will destroy this planet completely! I can only imagine what Washington would be with Sara Palin sitting in the "driver's seat"! She probably would fantasize the possibility of seeing Russia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, North Korea, Syria, Israel, and who knows who else right from her office in Washington! And we, the taxpayers, would be paying for per-diem child care for her to take her children to work, and a "special office" for her husband! No doubt about it, we would get "two Presidents" for one! I'll be sooooooooooooooo happy to see these McCain/Palin defeated! The Republicans have shown America what they are really about, and it isn't "Christian values" as they would like to have everyone believe. In my lifetime I never would have predicted that the Evangelistic, Bible-based, Christians would have such a mind-set! What a disappointment!

Mary   October 29th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

To "Concerned in MA" it's apparent that your vision is impaired and I'd say it's all because you're looking through a narrow tunnel and all you choose to see is Sarah Palin. If you are truly concerned then allow yourself an unbiased look at the real truth and that is for the most part, Sarah has no idea what she's talking about and she's not ready to serve at the bottom and definitely not the top of the ticket.

What about the Alaska Independence Party, Sarah? Did Todd just give up his membership because you had political aspirations? Are you for them or against them, Sarah. I think that's a valid question the media has avoided asking her. Why does she get preferential treatment, and Obama get's the kitchen sink, CNN?

The sky is falling   October 29th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Sarah Palin has done her party no good with her "paling around with terrorist" "socialism" now this.
Most people will not take her or McCain serious any longer.
They have become the throw the kitchen sink at him and maybe something will stick. Truth doesn't matter, more misleading comments the better.
This is so pitiful.

Do some research.

McCain led a group who funding this man for almost a half million. At his old age, he must have forgot. The facts don't seem to get in the way of Palin and McCain's one speech they repeat day after day.

John should take that marker he wants to make everyone famous with, and remind himself just who he interacted with before coming out with these ridiculous comments day after day.

Chicago   October 29th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Unbelievable. How many of you know every single thing about every single person you work with or even go to an event with. You can respect a person for pieces of their being without respecting or agreeing with their entire being. And by you I mean you Bible Spice, McSame, and all your cronies.

Perhaps it is time to take off the gloves. Let's dive into McCain's relations with Khalidi. BTW, how on earth does McCain know him? How about Keating? How about Fife Symington? How about Cindy's drug theft? How about Joe the Plumber's familial ties to Keating? How about Shi Sheng Hao? Don't know who he is? Check out the story in the Chicago Tribune today.

Remember what our mama's said – "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all". I would like to update it to say "if you don't have anything truthful to say then don't say anything at all". Then I wouldn't have to wait 6 more days to hear either of their voices again or hear "my friends" one more time.

Palin needs to get her facts straight and do some homework on her own just like the others should do who are going to vote for you. Did they work together? Yes Did he attend a party for the dude going away? Yes Was Palin or McCain there to witness what was being said? No So who are either one of them to speculate or throw their opinion out there as FACT? Didn'd know that socializing with someone meant that you were FRIENDS and shared the SAME VIEWS!

The only time McCain and Palin lie is when thier lips are moving!

GO VOTE!!!

It's just she is not interested in intercultural exchanges. Her mind is close as a clam and she cannot formulate a straight thought without using stereotypes. That is why she hangs out with Joe the Plummer, so that she can have ameaningful conversation with somebody at her cultural level! the bad thing for americans is that she has a constituency here in the USA!! And some of them are actually looking for somebody more ignorant then them to rule the Country! Just another form of suicide for a country unwilling to change its destiny. Good luck!! I do not think you guys even deserve somebody like Obama, he would be a waste for this country!

P.J.   October 29th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

So Palin is saying it's wrong to even listen to someone who you don't agree with? Or worse yet, someone whose views don't gell with her scant knowledge of. . .well. . .anything. But I forgot, this is also the woman who has taken it upon herself to divide the country into anti- and pro-American. She needs to go back to Alaska and busy herself burning books.

McCain/Palin have the worst connection of all. Their philosophy of government is the same as those of George Bush and the Republican party. George Bush has created a complete fiasco. McCain will contintue the same failed policies hoping for a different result. I don't think America should take that risk. When you see McCain/Palin, remember George Bush and vote for OBAMA!

Actually, it's probably not the alleged PLO connection that scares her…it's his credentials as a professor. God forbid we should have well-educated leaders who pal around with other well-educated people. All that education makes keeping the electorate a-feared and suspicious of difference and change that much harder.

Don't Gloat, Just Vote!

@JEFF : Thank you for posting your comment. I hope McCain and Palin see this and stick there feet futher in their mouths.

McCain and Palin are too concerned with bringing fear upon this BRAVE nation. As Americans we should not stand for it and vote Obama and Biden to run this country safely.

Why doesn't CNN work on the LA Times to release a transcript if they can't release the actual video? What's the harm in investigating the story?

It would be nice if someone from the media asked Obama what his vision is for America. Is it a society where there are no winners, no losers, everyone is equal? No workaholics, no slackers? Just like the Beatles song "Imagine"? Sounds nice until you actually think about the consequences, one of them being the vaporization of the American Dream.

I don't have a much as the guy next to me, but he works harder for it and he deserves it, not me. What is wrong with that concept?

I think she figures if she makes up enough crap about Obama everyone will forget that she was found guilty of abuse of power and guilty of unethical conduct. I just find her continued mudslinging to be final week entertainment. But you know in all honesty, the really sad thing is that this woman is in charge of a STATE. And just pushes aside her mis-conduct conviction. But yet has the audacity to tell a Senator from Alaska he should resign (and by all means I agree), while she keeps running for an even HIGHER office. Just a dirty dirty politician in Daily Scandal Palin.

Palin has been a registered Republican since the early '80's you cannot be a member of the AIP if you are a registered Democrat or Republican. As the Gov of the state she sent them a "Welcome video" which she had to do. Also please do not compare the AIP to hateful Khalidi who was part of the PLO. The only people you hear talking about the AIP are people like yourself who are just misinformed.

By the way Libby is not a Terrorist, a thief but not a terrorist, and McCain said he is proud to know him and that he demounced his actions and he servred his sentence and paid his debt to society for what he did and knows it was wrong in contrast to say someone like William Ayers or Khalidi.

We all better start keeping track of every single acquaintance, every person we meet, just in case we are called on it later! Has the US become a police state? If we don't meet and talk with people of all races, countries, religions, political persuasions, how will we ever learn about the world? Palin and McCain are desperately picking at every detail they can think of to win–part of their "winning is everything" strategy. Let's pick apart some of McCain's acquaintances! Or better yet, let's worry about whether he could have been brain washed! Most of the public is interested in important issues, not these negative diatribes!

AJWTexas!   October 29th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

We are observing the most racially motivated and profiling smear campaign ever witnessed by our wonderful country. I am truly amazed and yet ashamed of the evil spirit of my fellow "sister".

Palin has been a disgrace to not only the Republican party but also to the female species. Her demeanor, opinions and lack of intelligence has been so obvious to the American people that our comedians are banking on Palin''s short comings.

McCain''s VP selection of Palin was to "inspire" the female voting constituencies. Instead, we, the strong and determined women of America, are ridiculed by this gesture.

The internal Republican party divide regarding Palin''s selection speaks louder than any commentary, editorial and news soundbite than one could ever imagine.

It is the year for change, unity and for a positive movement within our country. We can no longer accept the old line of division that the Republicans are so opening representing.

Paul Wall in Dallas   October 29th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

There can be no doubt whatsoever now that you can put lipstick on a pig. She is a desperate gutter politician. Her fifteen minutes were up long ago. The only person more pathetic than her is her running mate. How many of us know everything about people we go to going-away parties for. How can anyone know all of someone's political views…I don't even know about everbody in my own family.

She should talk about her firebrand Christianity and what her goals are for Israel: a Christian city devoid of all Jewish people waiting for end-times and Jesus second coming. Like most of the radical religious right she forgets to point out that her interest in Israel is about Christian access to Jerusalem. She cares absolutley nothing for Israel otherwise.

Debra Austin, Texas   October 29th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

The McCain campaign and all those in it are disgusting especially Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. I just can't get over the fact that they have sooo little to talk about that this is what they sink to…its clear this is meant to incite fear among Jewish Voters.

Why is it that they INSIST on talking about Obama, and yet have nothing to say about themselves!!!! If I were an Independent Voter I would like to know WHY it would be in my best interest to vote for McCain and yet….with this type of hateful, bigoted talk and now Joe the NON-Plumber, non-taxpayer is now the top campaign surrogate! This is just unbelievable.

People…WE need an administration that will be thoughtful, pragmatic, and educated with the ability to bring people together. Is this the type of attitude you want in an administration when it comes to handling Foreign Policy?

More slime and innuendo from Palin. What a surprise. There really is no lie she will not tell, no depth to which she will not stoop. Now the real secret true Truth is hidden on a video that no one has seen of a private event that took place five years ago? Whatever, Sarah. We only have to compare your speeches and actions of the last month or so to know who is the better and more honorable person. Hint: it isn't you or your running mate. You two are only about getting ahead by ripping down the other guy; Barack Obama builds everyone up by treating everyone with respect, and for that he gets my respect (and vote) in turn. It will be good to have someone bring dignity back to the White House for a change.

As for Sam the Tax Evader: what I want to know is whether or not he got a new wardrobe out of the deal, and how much it cost. Because like Sarah Palin (and unlike Barack) I'm always willing to shoot for the cheap shot, which is why I will never be President and neither will John McCain or Sarah Palin, God and the electorate willing.

They need to leave the stage quickly because they are making it worse every day. The people who vote based on this mess are the ones that need some education (not formal, but common sense) and the fact that this garbage works on them is disgusting.

Whites and Christians that fall for the race-baiting and religion-baiting that is going on really need to examine their motivations and their values. I cannot beleive the anti-Christian things coming out of the mouths of Christians. Christ died for Jew and Gentile. He died for the Muslim. Our country is founded on freedom of religion, including NO religion. I'm a Christian and I'm ashamed of this mess.

Yet another asked and answered accusation, just like Bill Ayers. Wow, do you now have to ask people you meet and befriend what is your faith, interest and political background now in this country? Unless you can prove that Senator Obama was supportive of anti-semitism or actually spoke out against Israel, then get off of it. What we have heard from Senator Obama is support of Israel. You have Jesse Jackson sharing his views, but not those of the candidate and now the McCain-Palin ticket bringing up old news to stir up tension in the Jewish-American community on the eve of the election. Pitiful!

What is really sad, other respectful republican politicians have bought into this way of campaigning. Elizabeth Doles ad in North Carolina is suprising yet telling of the desparation of the republican party. I never thought she would stoop to these tactics.

You gotta love that Joe Biden. Not sure how this will affect voter turnout or how people will vote, but Joe did it again by lowering the beginning of what will be considered as rich people. It has gone from $250k down to $200k and now Joe slipped that he and Obama must have had a conversation where he wasn't supposed to tell anyone, and Joe being the honest guy he is, let it slip. It is now $150k and who knows, it may go even lower if they are elected.

You are supposed to be jounalists here, and yet you never clear up the facts. You allow her to say what ever she wants in her uneducated, uninformed way, and don't clear up. That's why so many people who unfortanatly trust jounalists believe this crap.

McCain himself has an extensive relationship with Khalidi, including providing his group with hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money. In the 90's McCain was the chairman for International Republican Institute , McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars. She should check the facts before she goes out to give her attack speeches and end up looking like an idiot.
Thank goodness there is only 6 days left and we won't have to hear any more negative attacks from McCain or Palin.

christine   October 29th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

It is always something new with Sarah Palin. One week Obama is too inexperienced, another he is a socialist. It IS negative campaigning when the only way you can supprt your party is by putting down the other. Why is she not speaking of the wonderful things she wants to do for the country? It is because she has no clue to run a country. And by the way, Obama is FAR from inexperienced. He was the first African American President of Harvard Law Review, taught ten years at Harvard in constitutional law, and was a state senator and the third African American senator to be re-elected… And that is just to name a few.

Do the Republicans know no bounds for hypocrisy. Obama has thankfully had the morals to stay away from Todd Palin being a secessionist, McCaine being an actual friend of Gordon Liddy, McCaine having met Pinoche without preconditions, Sarah Palin being praised by an evangelical lunatic minister from Africa that orchestrated a witch hunt, and McCaine's involvement with a hate mongering anti-gay group. For some reason, McCaine is willing to drag out all of this old nonsense that has little to do with Obama when he is the only one running that has an official reprimand for his involvement in the Keating 5 scandal. The Republican ticket is just a giant closet with heaps of skeletons.

Joe Wurzelbacher is not a small business owner. People need to stop treating him like that. He doens't have a license, so he can't even own a small plumbing business if one was handed to him. Even the "real" people the McCain campaign professes to be about are being misrepresented by the very same campaign. The unfortunate part is if you told this to Palin she would think you were complimenting her as "Miss Representation".

C A   October 29th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Typical Palin politics. The same she used in her political races in Alaska. Attack the other candidate while offering absolutely no substantive proposals of your own. She is also using the same tactic used in Alaska of spring boarding off those who help her get started and the nstabbing them in the back to win an election. She is dumping McCain and attempting to solidify the base behind her for a future run.

Who else in history used the same kind of fear baiting, fear mongering attack politics to gain power? Mussolini perhaps, Hitler. The common thread here is to incite fear and hate into people's hearts in order to take advantage of the same for poitical gain.

Yes, I said it. Palin's tactics are the same used by Mussolini and Hitler.

Palin speaks about "issues" using derogatory, inflammatory, ridiculing sarcasm that attacks the person from the point of view of their character, thereby personalizing the comment. This is an excessively immature and vicious tactic, reeking of a real inability to intellectually, factually, and objectively debate the merits of a person's stance on an issue. Her chronic avoidance of discussing available pathways around a problem, or discussing various aspects of an issue, speaks volumes about her real ability to lead. What I hear is nothing more than a 12 year old girl viciously attacking another girl from inside a clique. She obviously has not grown up.

This latest 11th hour attack has no substance. Five minutes ago, Palin supporters didn't even know who Khalidi was. All they knew is that Obama is a Muslim who pals around with Ayers. All they cared about was the free hotdogs, bed sheets and pointy hats that Palin had promised to hand out at the Klan Rally following her campaign stop.

It's not like the Palin supporters who are screaming injustice five minutes later have ever lived/worked/traveled overseas. Many of them couldn't even find Palestine on a map.

John   October 29th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Peter (CA)   October 29th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

I was hoping for some civility in this campaign. At the very least I was hoping that Palin would not say anything so ridiculous that I could no longer ignore her. Well, here she goes again: the message of the day is that someone's home movies are the key. Two days ago, it was a spliced audiotape. Last week, it was an "attack" on a McCain supporter. Before that socialism, Bill Ayers, ACORN and whatever nugget this idiot can pick up off the ground. Give it up, Palin, these things have no traction. If there was ANYTHING on that video, Hillary would have gotten it. Let's talk about YOU you pathetic and shrill poor excuse for a candidate. How about Troopergate? What about your impeachable offenses? What about your complete lack of knowledge about what it takes to run a country???
Good thing she brought "Joe" on stage—guess he is that campaign's expert on Israel now.

Will the real Barack Obama, please step foward, not. Who is Obama? If such a video does exsist how could I ever even enterain voting for him. This is news worthy, let the major news media's presure the LA Times into clearing the air. I'm not crazy about McCain/Palin, but if this is true we are being CON'D by Obama and his public relations committee. Here's a question…Why has no one criticized Ms Palin for her and her husband's ties to the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party? Or is getting control of the Alaskan oil fields and then seceding from the union not a threat to the US?

In 1998, McCain, as chairmen of the International Republican Institute gave $500k to the Center for Palestine Research and Studies. A group, Khalidi helped found.

So does that mean McCain is supporting Neo-Nazis?

I'm Jewish and I work closely with a Palestinian man. He is easily the kindest and most caring man on our team, always making sure everyone else is informed and in the loop and prepared to suceed. We both agree that the militant attitudes of many Palestinians and even Israelis are not the solution. We disagree about whether Palestine should have its own state – the diasgreement largely centers around what the motive of such a state would be. We amicably agree and disagree about a number of things – from work to religion to foreign policy. The one thing we can easily agree on is that we see through this transparent attempt to polarize America, and we'll both be voting for Obama and Biden come election day.

Palin, when she speaks, she uses Reverse Psychology on people who are attending the rallies.

This type of tactic she is using tells me a lot about her and how she really feels about the people she is addressing, trying sooo hard to convince them of her backward lies.

Either that or she is a pathological liar – one of the two for sure.

Caribou Barbie is so stupid she doesn't even know that McCain has supported this organization through his sponsorship of grants given by Congress to Khalidi's organization.
