Court: Michigan must return purged names to voter rolls

Sen. Obama campaigned in East Lansing, Michigan at the beginning of this month.

Sen. Obama campaigned in East Lansing, Michigan at the beginning of this month.

(CNN) – A federal appeals court has agreed with a lower court and ordered the state of Michigan to add the names of 5,500 voters back onto the voters rolls.

The names were purged when mail sent to the voters by local election officials was returned as undeliverable. Purging the names was permitted under Michigan law but violated the federal National Voter Registration Act which limits the circumstances under which a state may remove a voter from the rolls.

The appeals court explained that Michigan’s practice caused affected voters to “face wrongful disenfranchisement.”

A for any connections with ACORN...

Check this out, MCain was the keynote speaker at an ACORN meeting in Feb 2006. He (McCain) applauded their involvement in community issues and their accomplishments....

This is the American way, when republican trys to steal another election, the COURT SAYS NOT THIS TIME.....

We americans need to stand up and send a message to the Republicans that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH....LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!!!!!

Republicans are behind all of these...

**The girl who claimed she was attacked, McCain is behind this.

**Joe the No plumber, McCain behind this as well, even though it worked out well for obama, knowing Joe plumber DIDNT PAY HIS TAX and does not make 250k.

**The flyers circulating in VA, PA , telling democrats will vote on Nov 5th, McCain is behind this..

America, stand up and tell the GOP, ENOUGH ALREADY

I am sure the Nielsen ratings did give Obama a boost in ratings claiming how many watched his informercial considering they are the left wing themselves!

Yes! I'm glad this happened. The MIGOP was sending out absentee ballots to Democratic voters in Michigan. The problem? The return addresses printed on them were in Ohio.

This is no brainner– most people have already gone to the polls to vote, unlike previous years. The real poll would be to ask those who have already voted (like me) to disclose who they voted for- Obama will be way in the lead.

So, stop this old-type polling and be like Obama; do something new and innovative as I have suggested above!

"My friends, this is just another example of the liberal press (media) suggesting we have altered the voting machines, and are racist by not letting those blacks, 40% of whom are unemployed, vote. How ridiculous. As true patriotic real Americans, Sarah and I would never let that happen on our watch."

Say Cindy how did our oil stock earnings do today?

They should press charges against the person/people who authorised this 'purging' as that's the only way the GOP are going to learn not to break the law – put someone in jail.

Hooray. Glad that voter suppression has failed somewhere. We should all expect it to be in full sway in Florida and Ohio next week. This is the GOP's only chance. Their tactics of fear and suspicion are not working, so again they are resorting to suppressing votes. Afterall, it worked in 2000 and 2004. Hope it does not work this time.

Very good picture, with Edwards – that's what Obama needs right now. Is CNN feeling a buyer's remorse now, after pushing Obama down people's throaths all these months? Could be...

Thank goodness this court has taken away another of the GOP's dirty tricks used to disenfranchise voters of their rights.

HAHAHAHAHA! The national polls can tighten to 50-50 for all I care! If McCain can't close the gap in VA, CO, NV, or PA in the next 5 days the only way he'll get to the White House is as a guest of President Obama!

Republicans want to cry about ACCORN, but the real crime is the fact that they will do anything to stay in power.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... there is something inherently WRONG with a political party that benefits from FEWER voters. Republicans suppressing votes like this (or attempting to do so) and at the same time calling liberals "un-American" takes an enormous amount of intellectual dishonesty.

82 days till the end of the Bush administration.

This is another opportunity for voter fraud. Acorn submitted false applications not all of them were Mikey mouse some where names that could not be verified.

If you look at Ohio where you don't need an ID to vote or even have an adress to vote this is ripe for voter fraud.

Please vote for McCain Obama is a leftist wacko!!!!!!

We have a very long hard road it is tricks like these that is going to make it very hard for Barack Obama. The GOP stole the 2000 and 2004 white house and they are not going down this time without a fight. The Dems need to fight back, and I am glad to see they have been.

Have anyone really listen to McCain speeches? He never truly answere any questions. He have yet not explain to the Americans what his plans are? All he is doing is giving off negative vibes and fear and his followers are agreeing with him. What is wrong with this picture. I thought this was supposed to be a clean campaign. What happen?
