From
Joe Wurzelbacher did show up to a Palin event Wednesday.
Joe Wurzelbacher did show up to a Palin event Wednesday.

(CNN) - Joe Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, has become an integral part of John McCain's presidential bid, but it appears the Arizona senator's campaign and the now-famous Toledo plumber need to work on their communication skills.

McCain aides told CNN's Dana Bash Wurzelbacher would appear with the Republican presidential candidate at his first campaign event in Defiance, Ohio. But in what was a slightly awkward moment for McCain, Wurzelbacher was nowhere to be seen when the Arizona senator called out for him.

Read Dana Bash's first person account of the mix up on AC360 blog

A campaign aide later said Wurzelbacher had "decided not to come" and may join McCain later in the day.

But reached at his home by CNN's Mary Snow, Wurzelbacher said it was "news to him" that he was supposed to be at the McCain rally. Wurzelbacher said nobody from the McCain campaign confirmed he was attending the event and called the incident a "miscommunication."

Wurzelbacher also said he is headed to Philadelphia for a charity event unrelated to the campaign and has no plans to meet up with McCain today.

UPDATE: Contacted by CNN a second time, Wurzelbacher said the campaign only called him to confirm after the event in question already took place.  He will now try to meet up with McCain later in the day.

Watch: 'Joe': McCain 'a real American'

Wurzelbacher also said he had gotten an initial call about coming to the morning rally, "but no one called back to confirm," and was "not happy" that McCain had called out his name and he wasn't there.

McCain Stood Up By "Joe the Plumber" « From My Perspective…   August 11th, 2009 12:08 am ET

[...] Here's the original article. [...]

That's ok   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Things happen. Its not a big deal but of course Obama supporters will try and make it a big deal. Its not like McCain did not show up or Palin – give me a break folks.

Its better that happens than watching that 30 minute Obama clip last night. It was downright strange. Obama should have had a "live" 30 minute infocommercial with people being able to talk to him and see him in person. Obviously he does not want anyone to be able to ask him anything. Another thing about Obama to be concerned about – he is not available to the public. Creepy – solcialist type of behaviour – scary. He is sneaky and controlling. He is someone to be afraid of if given power to America that is for sure.

Dbing!   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

It'll be "Pitbull Palin" and "Joe Da Plumma" for 2012. They are the new "Mavericks". "Pitbull Palin" for bucking her own party and John McCain, and Joe for bucking his profession by not getting certified as a plummer; Got to be one of the smartest plummer in the world; he know more about political issues then the "Pitbull" I wonder, if he was a "McCain operative" seeking a "Gotcha Moment". Oh well, here comes the new Republican leadership!

Mary   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

That is priceless!!! He's favorite prop didn't show up. No matter, it's not going to make a difference anyway. They say Obama is trying to buy the vote, but Joe the Plumber is the biggest scam going.

Fred   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

It's pretty bad when you are drowning and the plumber doesn't show up!

JIMBISCIELLO   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

HMMM LETS SEE
OBAMA CAMPAIGNED WITH PRESIDENT CLINTON
AND MC CAIN CANNOT GET JOE THE PLUMBER ON THE SAME STAGE WITH HIM–HMMMMMMMMM

MD   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

OKAY. Who in their right minds could even think of voting for these idiots... That's why people keep calling them racist. If you can still vote for these DUMB A's who can't even keep track of "JTP" then there is something more going on in your heads.

Have a little faith. Give the SMART BLACK GUY a chance...

Zeppo   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Speaking of Joe the Plumber, why doesn't Obama spread some of his wealth.

Instead of wasting his money on expensive infomercials he should have put 30 million directly into the wealthfare system.

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Someone please tell John McCain that Joe The Plumber won't show up unless you make a deal with his publicist first!

Peggy in Ohio   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

The Republican party should ban everybody involved in organizing McCain's campaign from the party. They have made a mockery of a good senator.

My concern is about the plight of our veterans and their health care as they return from these wars!!! I am a 62 year old Vietnam 66/67, Iran Hostage Crisis 79/80, who has been begging/appealing for the last 10 years concerning 3 appeals, one in which the va sent me/family documentation stating I was diagnosed positive for AIDS,etc!!! Until this day no one has responded favorably an not at all since April 10 1998 with no regard to what this letter did to my family!!! Thats why we need a candidate that will have the interest of the american veterans as a priorty a candidate that will not let our veterans die/suffer in wars or after wars!!!! 10 years my cases still pending, I guess the va is waitng for me to expire!!!!!!!

Todd Palin   October 30th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

IT IS DISGUSTING TO SEE THIS GUY EVERYWHERE.MCCAIN CAMP DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE NOW A DAYS

Elizabeth   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

That Joe the Plumber is a Republican plant! Isn't he related to McCain's friend, Keating? McCain and Palin are a sad pair! When McCain selected Palin, he opened a Pandora's Box (of worms, etc.). They are so desperate they will pull at any straws! One of the scariest things I have heard today is when Larry King asked McCain if he was flying and our country was attacked would he trust that cocky wacko, Palin, to take control. GOD HELP US ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sf   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

This guy is a joke and I do NOT care about him one bit! Besides, how can he be main street when he has a publicist?!?!? Joe the "plumber" is a joke and is literally trying to get all this attention for himself. Looks like he's one in a long line of folks that are bailing out on the McCain campaign!

Cory   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Ok, tell me you're kidding. He actually introduced him and he was not there? Somebody tell me I'm dreaming....

Joe The Engineer   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

its beyond ridiculous, joe the plumber, who has no license and never paid taxes, and repubs has no one issue but him to run their campaign. is that all you got McPalin? no real substance to run your campaign, like economic, credit crisis, foreclosures, jobs?

joe the plumber, will ayers, khalid, socialism, marxism, terrorist.......no these are not the real issues America is facing right now, and no one is cared about it.

Susan   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Oh yeah, This is great! The McCain Staff can't even manage to coordinate the appearance of "Joe the Plumber" without a blunder but millions of Americans are looking to these clowns to run the entire COUNTRY!!! HELLO PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!! PULL YOUR HEAD OUT!

latinovoter   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

MCCIN HAS STRONGER TIES TO THE PLO – than Obama ever did. View the MCCAIN-PLO ties on ANY VIDEO SITES, Even Lou Dobbs reported it. Of Course, clueless Palin and her handlers wouldn't know that for they are not into Pro-Googling or Vetting issues before they spew them out to the public. Thank God these clowns are going to be gone!

THE WATCHER   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

CMW from Pittsburgh   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Believe me, PA isn't a swing state, we are too smart to be duped by the McCain/Palin crew.

PA is going for Obama, it may have taken some time, but we are there, believe me, even Republicans here are jumping ship because they see the Titanic coming with McCain.

milo   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Is there video of this? Sounds hilarous.

karen-phoenix   October 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

McCain communication skills would be a LOT to be desired as president!!! WE, the American people DO NOT need someone who has a big lack of "communication" skills besides McCain is just way tooooo old!!!! AND that is most of the problem!!! Even Arizona is going Blue!!!
God Bless Obama/Biden

jerimie   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

let's just call joe what he really is...

JOE THE OPPORTUNIST!

Please stop this nonsense. The world is watching....and laughing at us.

reggie   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Wait a minute!!! how is this newsworthy? It was merely a scheduling error...Nothing like Obama meeting with Khalidi, of the PLO, which you fail to cover. CNN is such a joke this election...

Molly   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

LOL...this guys an idiot!

KLEE   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

there isn't a liberal america – there isn't a conservative american there is just a United States of America – heard speech from Obama on TV – inspiring and touches your soul – i have never been so taken by an election in my life and i've been around for awhile….let's do it right – keep it honest – and stay between the lines. thank you and good night

PS I was looking for "joe the plumber" this morning in Defiance OH and guess what.....joe didn't show!!! good ole reliable joe!

OBAMA/BIDEN the "no gimmick" team.

Jill   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Joe does things on HIS timetable. Why? Because he's a MAVERICK!

gl, Pittsburgh   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Why can't McCain leave this Joe the fake plummber along already.

Tulsa   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Just saw an article that the Republican Party if McCain loses the election is going to Blame Sarah Palin for their loss.......but who picked her? That was one of McCain first really important decissions to make.........If he can't pick a qualified VP then how can he run our Country. He won his primary back in March he had plenty of time to veet Palin but he waited till August......he himself said he had only met her a couple of times........who's fault is it? Put the blame where it should be on MCCain after all this is his campaign............Yes, I think Palin is not qualified but MCCain knew that before the rest of us and he made a bad move anyway.........hoping she would bring in the voters he couldn't get on his own............If this is the kind of decissions he is going to make , we don't need him trying to solve our economy problems,or facing the terrorists of the world

Rob   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

And let the various kooky reasonings flow freely from the fingers of the Obama freaks.

But hey, Obamaholics, what about appearances at Barry rallies by his friends, Ayers, Wright, and now, Khaledi? Where are they. The three of them should help your rantings about how evil the US and Israel are. It'd be a good rally, the three of them hate America, and Barry wants to ruin America, what more could you ask for?

Jim   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Maybe the diva needs some plumbing work done to her home.

Geeque - Chicago,IL   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

hahahahahahhah It's so funny !! I can't stop laughing.
McCain campaign is a joke.

Mauricio   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Yeah, that's right. John McCain called out for Joe the Plumber and he wasn't there. Why? Because they're not on the ball. If they can't get a campaing to run smoothly, what makes the American people think that they can run a Government? Guess what? I'm not showing up for McCain either.

Love,

Mauricio "the Pharmaceutical Compliance Cooridinataor" Ramirez

jimmy   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

and some people want these people to run the country, totally pathetic.

democracynow2008   October 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

When I call a Plumber they came and fixed the pipe problem we had on time .
When McCain calls the Plumber to come out in from of a large crowd he does not come out .
Why because McCain did not call to make an appointment.
What a joke this is .
I wish I was their .
Joe The Plumber come on out Joe are you their hey Joe .
Oh sorry my fellow Americans Joe the Plumber is not here.

william   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

hahahahaha! That is hysterical. Maybe Joe the plumber needs to be introduced to Joe the scheduler. How's that country music album coming?

Kent   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

"Joe the Plumber" is another bad decision around McCain's neck dragging him further down below into the depth's of no return. McCain continues to make poor decisions and this guy is in it for himself.

Patrick   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

About as significant as the news that he would show up, which is to say that it really isn't significant at all.

The only thing it does is raise the possibility that he was a republican plant in the first place. Honestly, I'm sort of glad that he didn't show because for all the talk about the guy, I'd like to think that he was just some guy and not a political dirty trick.

gail   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

is this really news, and is he really helping their ticket, now book endorsements, congress running and my favorite country and western singer, they probably have to have their plant hang around for 15 more minutes of fame, hey joe paid your taxes yet?

FLORIDA for Obama   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

It was FABULOUS when McCain called on 'Joe the Plunger' and he wasn't there. It was PRICELESS.

Maybe 'Joe the TAX EVADER' is in the pokey.

ANDY DAAS   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

You should be called Joe the joker not Joe the plumber.

nikstery   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

i just think that it is sad that McCain is relying on a non-plumber, not-named-Joe to revive up his campaign. I can't wait to til the non-experience governor, with no knowledge of foreign-affairs to be his opening act. Oh wait.. SARAH PALIN. Their campaign is just sad.

Dave   October 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Not the kind of plumber I want at my house, shows up when he wants to. Must be making to much money.

Neither Joe, Nor Plumber. Sam Joe Wurzelbacher

Paul   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

A LICENSED plumber is more likely to show up on time. I feel sorry for McCain. As soon as it looks like he's gonna lose, all his supposed allies 'cut and run'!

Samuel   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Hi there Thebe:

I agree with you 100%. This is not funny anymore, it is very S-C-A-R-Y and creepy people.

Abrams-Seattle   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

So Joe is a plumber just because he says he is? I thought that he didn't have a license...oh that's right, I THOUGHT.

ObamaVolunteer   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Liar, Liar; pants on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable; he lies just like "those two".

Casey   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

If you have no other reason to vote for Obama, this should be it. How in the world can John McCain expect to be the leader of the free world if he can't even coordinate a campaign that gets a plumber to show up to a rally???

Republican for Obama   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Not to worry, the book deal's in the bag.

sigh   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Joe's new PR agent recommended that he not attend. His book deal negotiations and country music deal negotiations are more important to his future career than showing up with a troubled campaign.

Jim   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

The diva should share her makeup and clothing money with poor old joe.

TM   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Hmm, when I've been "stood up" by a plumber (or other repair person), I never call them again and start looking for a replacement.

I guess this happens to all of us, even Sen. McCain. Time to move on.

Billy   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

So Joe the Plumber is ditching a charity event for McCain? And McCain wants that??

This campaign has the wrong priorities.

Brett the nurse.   October 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

I think the sad part about this is that McCain has to rely on a made up senario to try and fool people that he realy stands for the little guys, all those poor little guys that make 250k a year net... those poor bastards!! No one has stood up for them and said hey, they need help to be able to afford that car at the mecum auto auction! hey, they help in order to be able to play their country club dues! Thank god McCain is there to make sure that the rich get richer while the rest of us get poorer and poorer. Of course it makes sense, the stupider and poorer the people in your country the less you have to pay them and the more profit you can make. It's modern fuedalism. Thanks but no thanks Johny MAC. I am in the tank for Obama too, Brett the nurse.

This is one sick joke. Joe the Plumber is just like McSame, trying to cash in on notoriety under false pretenses. This guy is not even a licensed plumber and owes back taxes and he is talking about running for Congress now. Give me BREAK! Well, then call him by his real name, "JOE THE JACKLEG".

WhiteWomenforObama'08   October 30th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

My personal advice to Joe: 1, pay your Ohio state tax first, 2. get a license to do whatever job you claim, 3. don't lie to people together with McCain's campaign. Then, you might have a shot in Palin's position since she said that you were very welcome in Alaska.

Maybe he was off paying back taxes to get the lien off his house. Hard to believe that the McCain campaign would feature a guy who misrepresented his circumstances and has dodged back taxes. Or maybe that's not so hard to believe. So sad.

jesse   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Of course he didn't show when he was supposed to: he's a plumber! Like the cable guy they never show up when they say they will. Or is he trying to distance himself from McCain since he plans to run for office in the future?

Gladys,   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

For crying out loud! if mccain and his camp think, they're use this man and dump him? I've news for them, they're have be punk by Joe the plumber. "Joe the Plumber" is only using the mccain camp for his own personal gain. sorry McSame........... Another bad decision.

Palin has misused her power and the campaign money!!!   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

The McCain advisors are making a fool out of Mc Cain, they really have no ideas nor do they care about the campaign any longer. They are frustrated and making mistakes. Joe is for himself and had another engagment scheduled, but what really gets me is that the Repulslican party will allow any one even if they are barely educated, extremed , no scrupples, abuse power, liars represent their party. But we will not allow these stupid self centered liars to represent our Country. Maybe Joe the Schmo will have a life altering event that will leave him in a situation where he will need to rely upon the Government, then he may understand why helping others is not Socialism.

Mc Cain first country..................... whenever?!

Joe The Phony Plumber Makes Me Sick   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Well, why not Joe The Phony Plumber? This guy proves that you don't have to have brains to get the country's attention. His 15 minutes would have been up on November the 4th and he's going to ride this ridiculous game until he makes some money. That's okay, this is America, I just don't want to see him.

He makes me sick because he reminds of everything that's wrong with the Republican Party. He reminds me of the greed and mean-spiritness of this country.

Don   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Wonder how much his endorsement cost the McShame campaign? Maybe they paid his back taxes, or got him a temp license!!!!!

vw   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

John, the man who grasped the essence of "American dream"-to encourage the hard-working American...

Paizley   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Joe is trying to get a date. He shows up to Palin's rally but he leaves John hanging....lol. It's so clear!

Bob Sixpack   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Joe probably gave McCain a three hour window as to when he might show up.

kuk-angry republican, PA   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

what a joke Johnny boy. you just want to take the republican party with you to retirement. how on earth are you not in control of your campaign? i am ashame to be a republican. we need to forget about this joe the plumber gimmick, because it looks like it cannot stop the leak

Harry from york pa   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

5 more days folks, then it will be all she wrote, no more gov. Palin, no more Joe the plumber, just America united under one president, Barack Obama. McCain rides around on the straight talk express but i haven't seen him be straight or his campaign be straight about anything. There was no miscommunication here, just lies, the McCain campaign is desperate so they are trying to find anything to latch on to, like Joe the Plumber. Unfortunately they will drag him through the mud with them. I think it's smart for him to run away from the campaign, or as the town he was supposed to campaign; Defiance.

OBAMA GIRL   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

That's what McCain gets!!! He should have realized that Joe the Plumber is actually hurting him. These stupid decisions along with the hate and fear that they are spreading is why he doesn't belong in the white house.

David from Kentucky   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

They should rename this campaign "The John McCain / Sarah Palin Circus Show! And they want to run the country!

A grateful voter.   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Thank you, Joe, for the no show. (I think it was becasue he wet himself. Look at the picture of him with Palin.)

Maggie from Virginia   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Please stop the madness! This is not funny. Why does McCain allow this foolishness to continue?

Jack Jodell, Minneapolis, MN   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

When you lie as much as Joe the Fake Plumber and McCain do, you're bound to get things fouled up!

Mike   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Is it just me or does Joe the Plumber need to get back to work?

Ted   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

I can't believe this....today is five days before the election and McCain is introducing yet another Maverick! He just did a 'Meverick' on McCain himself. I'm laughing so hard my tummy is sore.......

Steve   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Who among us hasn't scheduled an appointment with a plumber, only for them not to show-up?

The gift that keeps on giving...

Taz   October 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Mc Cain should do the country the favor and drop out of the race and save the country the time, the money and the trouble ( and leave, by leaving the American people with whatever is worth to remember about John Mc Cain – Mc cain the POW – not the politician ; Picking Palin without a background check was the biggest mistake of his campaign, panicking during the financial crisis and wanting to suspend his campaign, didn't say much about his experience either). His been tested "my friends" and he has failed.Barack Obama talks about the issues,John Mc Cain acts like a kiddengarden child, looking for insulting epithets ( socialist, radical ), and tries to score points by punching below the belt because he can not conceive anything intelligent to say and make a point. He is desperately trying to stay afloat, well here is the life vest: He should concede in dignity before he looses in a mudslide. In the meantime, he should do himself the favor and take into consideration who he puts on the campaign podium instead of judging Obama for his acquaintances.

roger   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Adding Joe the Plumber to McBush's campaign is about the silliests thing I have ever heard of or seen....But he seems to fit right in with the GOP crowd.....Keep in mind he will disappear after next Tuesday regardless of who wins the election....it is called being USED....Republicans will do or say whatever it takes to get elected...

Mario the Embalmer   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

LOL..this just gets sillier by the day...he's probably carving a backward "b" on his cheek at this point....

xargaw   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

"Joe" is an insult to the intelligence of the voters. He makes statements rooted in complete ignorance of the subject matter he is addressing. For the McCain Campaign to champion such ignorance only demonstrates how out of touch they are. If Joe has to explain even one answer to have given to a question, he would hard pressed to offer any background or basis of fact for his conclusions. Is America really this dumbed down?

independent 2008   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

McCane, McLame, McSame,
warned you about Joe, the fame is getting to his head, remember to call his publicist , manager, image consultant next time.

Paula   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Indicative of how a McCain/Palin administration would work-or not.

charzie, NY   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Joe didn't show up? Sad that John and Sarah are pinning all their hopes and dreams on this guy that got recently invented by McSame's campaign. Joe probably doesn't show up for work half the time either, whatever it is that he says he does to try to earn a living at.....he always seems "available" to be interviewed at his place of living. Cannot believe McShame has stopped his actually campaigning of policies, plans and solutions-whatever they actually were?- to degrade his campaign into nothing more than labelling Obama with every imaginable form of name-calling. If John doesn't label Barack something or other one hour, his fraudulent ticket-mate does. Biden and Obama are too gentlemanly to stoop to Ms. 1/2-baked Alaska's tactics of name calling and inuendos. The Democrats are CAMPAIGNING the issues, plans and policies. Goodbye to Sarah, hopefully forever, from the national political forum.... she's a mess!

TLC   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

JTP is a gimmick and one that is getting really old, really fast.

hey joe, your 15 minutes was up....15 days ago. move on, man, move on.

team of mavericks   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

I suppose that's because Joe is a maverick, too?

Lost in Texas FOREVER   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

when is John McCain and Co. going to figure out that this guy is USING them for his own personal gain?? Is this truly the American way that his campaign is always bragging about? The guy is a fake and a fraud and when pointed out by Democrats and others not on the right we were told we were anit- American, un American, and not looking out for the "little guy". John McCain turned this guy into the media attraction that he is today.., me thinks it's time to cut him loose.

Sunny   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Miscommunication? It should be Miss Communication! He did not undertsand Sarah Palin's invitation it seems! What a crap Republican campaign has become! Can't say something else if Joe is not around now! Come on guys, do you sertiously think that a ex-POW who has been shadow of Bush for 8 years and a corrupt, abuser governor from Alaska, the land of nowhere going to lead this country? This is getting to be a BIG joke now are we are being laughed all around the world.

Phil, Ashburn, VA   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

He is waiting for his clothing Allowance.

JFK   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

If he is smart, Joe will play no more of a part in this circus called the McCain Campaign! McCain/Palin should be ashamed of their behavior.

David   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

I am getting pretty tired of hearing about "Joe the..." (fill in option here)

It just seems like another distraction.

Colin   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Good maybe this guy won't show up to any other events because he has no purpose. Why is he campaigning anyways? You have Obama who has Sen. Clinton and Pres. Clinton campaigning with him and for him annnnnd then you have McCain who has an unlicensed plumber, guy who lied about being an independent when he was a registered republican, and hasn't paid his taxes. He has a fund raiser in Philly to go to? I douuubt that one who does this guy think he is? I mean hopefully he does good for him but I'm doubting it.

Paizley   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Joe sure does do alot of traveling....when does he work and why can't he use some of that money to pay his back taxes? Hmmmm......

m j   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

what a joke!!!!! i am so sick of hearing about JTP what a fake! get a clue McCain because you have none thus far. i can't believe anyone would vote for him because JTP backs him further more SARA PALIN go back to your igloo!!!!!

M.lyons   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Did Joe say he was going to a charity event in Philadelphia? Does he mean the ticket he is holding for that beef & beer?.....lol...
Go Obama/Biden.....

Nik   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Does this guy work? Is he a plumber? McCain's using him, so I hope he's smart enough to get some cash out of McCain, particularly all the humiliation that he's experiencing. I'm sure he didn't want the world to find out that he lied about buying a business that he can't afford on his salary, he's behind in his taxes, and he's absolutely clueless about economic and foreign policies. Reguritating right-wing buzz words is not his strong suit.

Joe from Mahwah, NJ   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Geez, the guy has to fire his newly hired publicist. I am still in awe that he is signing a country music record deal.

fred   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Soon with any luck he will be (Joe the singing plumber)

This Jew is voting for Obama   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

At this point I also feel a bit sorry for McCain and he should fired all his staff....
GO OBAMA!!!!!!

Joe the Plumber you are a total JOKE!!!!!!!!!

Michael   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Everybody's jumping ship at the McCain-Palin campaign now. I guess "Joe" realized that if he wants to have even a slim chance at getting elected to congress in 2010 he's going to have to distance himself from this implosion waiting to happen.

Jeffrey   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Maybe "Joe" has decided to vote Obama and is avoiding the McCain campaign. For McCain's sake, I hope so. The alternative is that McCain's campaign can't even coordinate a campaign appearance properly, because that doesn't bode well for his coordinating the most crucial Presidency perhaps in American history.

Amazing!!   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Hahaha...Maybe Joe the fake plumber watched the 30 min Ad from Obama last night and it all FINALLY made sense.

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

You can see the whole scene on YouTube: it's amazing!

- Joe is with us today...! Joe where are you...? Where's Joe...? Is Joe here with us today...? Joe I thought you were here today...?!?

jen   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

i feel like i am watching children-not adults in this campaign- in addition everything they claim joe is, has been debunked, but they hope that the uneducated voter doesnt see it-This campaign is a joke and it attracts the worst of us.

BaileyM   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

“Obama's Aunt Found Living in Rundown Boston Neighborhood
The Democratic candidate's Kenyan aunt is found living in a rundown public housing neighborhood in South Boston”

So, while he is living the Harvard High life he ignores his roots and family right next door. I don't believe or trust this man. He can talk smoothly, but his actions speak differently. All the money he spent on his career and family and he could have used some of that finding and taking care of his beloved aunt. He should use some of his own wealth and voluntarily distribute it to his own family.

We should all be responsible for our own families and quit expecting government handouts.

Jamie -- Asheville, NC   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Oh man, that cracks me up!

A big thanks to the McCain/Palin campaign for providing us with so many laughs!

Sorry John....This is "Joe the Unemployed Plumber"....I'm on my way

to Nashville to cut my first record so I can raise money for my run for

Congress....save me a seat in Washington please.....again....I

apologize....give my love to Sarah.

Voter   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Joe and Palin have stolen McCain's spotlight!

and McCain chose both! haha

CV   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Honestly, it's probably better off that Joe didn't show up. Even Fox news calls him out on being uninformed and alarmist in regards to Obama's Israel policy, so who knows what he would say.

Brian   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Its ok Joe. You don't have to lie, I wouldn't wanna be apart of it anymore either.

Larry   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Wow, this campaign has turned McCain into a joke. The King interview was probably his best and all he did was repeat the same whining, lies and half-truths about Obama. Not once did he say what he would do!!!! I went negative because Obama would not do town halls....Obama lied about campaign finance (again if you keep saying maybe someone will believe it)...Obama is a (insert name). He is acting like a spoiled kid....Does anyone really think he has the temperment to be PRESIDENT? People wake up and do not vote for this guy on 4 Nov...And I did not even mention PALIN (great choice there)!!!!

White Christian Mother for Obama   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

ENOUGH of this staged "Joe the Plumber"! He is NOT a Plumber! He owes taxes...he lived in Alasaka and rumor has it has ties to the Palan camp....

Go away JO and soon John!

Chris from St. Louis   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

ooops .... miscommunication .... McCain just pushed the red button.

We just can't take risk with McCain/Palin.

MIchigan Mom   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

I love how the "rogue" VP candidate has embraced "Joe the rogue," the guy who doesn't pay his taxes and who practices his profession without bothering to get the required license. They both think they are above the law.

Come to think of it, they are a perfect pair!

Sandra   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

I don't know why there is not more news on Joe the Plumber and his views on Social Security. He wants to do away with it and John McCain still thinks he is great. John, introduce him as your hero for voicing what you and your republicans really want to do with Social Security. He is just a weird right wing nut.

Taz   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

lola   October 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

I am so sick of 'Joe, the Plumber'! Talk about the issues, McCain/Palin!! Or, is it because you don't have anything to talk about??? Watch Palin's interview with Elizabeth Vargas (Ithought maybe it was Couric and Gibson) and see how Palin cannot answer a question so you even know what she is talking about!! McCain/Palin have run such a dirty campaign I do Not know how anyone can even think about voting for them!! Can you picture Palin talking with a dignatarie??? When she had her chance, what did she say? "What is the name of your children?" This Joe the Plumber business is so over–leave the poor (and he must be poor, why hasn't he paid taxes, hospital bill?) alone so he can make some money to pay his bills???

tee   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

The Mccain/Palin supporters never have anything intelligent to say.
They are always factually wrong. Take talking points from Rush, Hannity, Beck. I wonder if these guys are the ones running their campaign.

tom   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

now if only sarah palin would forget to show up for the next week or so McCain might have a shot

Veteran in Kansas   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Dah, no one in the McCain camp told Joe he was suppose to be anywhere. Couple that with the vesting of our Republican Vice Presidential canidate and the constant whinning of John McCain. We are wittnessing the death spiral of the McCain campaign, finally at long last.

Bob Indianapolis IN   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

WoW! An AWOL media creation. Whooda thunk?

Do you think maybe his 15 minutes was up? I hope if they're paying him, that he reports it on his taxes...Could get ugly....

OK. Seriously no more Joe the Plumber. Just stop.

Trudie, MD   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

John has time to play around with the American people. He's rich, and he couldn't care less about this financial crisis. He speaks with forked tongue. His campaign is all fun and games, just like that gas gimmick he tried to pull. It's a gimmick, just like Joe The Plumber, a gimmick just like Sarah Palin.

Obama/Biden, the real deal.

I am sick of Joe the Faux Plumber. What do Republicans have against smart, educated and well informed people anyway? I say lets have two healthcare plans one for republicans in which their physicians do not require educations or licenses but they have to be
"regular" folks with "common" sense.

The rest of us can have real physicians. That should save a lot of money.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE, VOTE A STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET!   October 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Seems as if every thing the Repugs do is either blowing up in their faces, or boomeranging against them!
Their latest ploy to link Obama to some Palestinian guy revealed that MCCAIN gave the guy half a million dollars for a Palestinian cause, and was involved in the organization that the guy founded!!!
What a MAC MESS!!!

Even Joe the Plumber knows he's wasting his time because the result will still spell DEFEAT or Joe is hiding from Joe the tax chief.

wwf   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Could not stand the heat? What about his music contract, book deal, etc. Why no news about Palin saying that she will be back when asked about plans if they loose. "I did not come here for naught" Most people would have said that we are going to win and I will worry about the other later. Guess she is just putting the screws to McCain a little deeper. If this was the McCain of 8 years ago, it would not have been an election. He has really changed, and it has not been for the better.

CNN bail out for John McCain.
CNN's Larry King show provided John McCain with free air time during the same evening of Sen. Obama's paid 30 mins. airtime.
It smells like a bailout to me. I wonder how much airtime Sen. McCain could have bought with the $150,000 the campaign spent on his running mate's wardrobe?

DollarBill   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

So tired of this fraud ! Joe the unlicensed Plumber ,making $45k a year and thinking McCain will be helping him ? Is he dreaming?
FYI Joe ,you will do much better tax wise under leadership by Obama than Mr McCain ,do you file taxes? If you do you will understand that with your small income and business you will fare much better under Obama.
As to the other career choices ,er.. your too long 15 minutes of fame are over !

while obama is looking out for Clinton and his likes to get the much needed advice and experience to put the country in its rightful place, and is ready to get the best brains to make it work and put smiles in the faces of the suffering Americans,Mccain is busy looking for a no show Joe the Plummer who is not even aware that he was supposed to be on his campaign trail. Joe the Plumber saw the Obama 30 minute program and saw how is on the wrong side and has a change of heart. JTP (joe the plumber) knows that working people move the economy, not making corporations wealthier. JTP must be a chess player and understands what happens to the pawns. Come on over JTP. There is room for you on the winning ticket.

This was for the tax calculator post–closed comments...

Helping my taxes is just icing on the cake for me. I would have voted for Obama anyway. He is an inspiration when many need to be inspired. He is hope for those who have otherwise lost hope. He is what this Country needs–a uniter who cares about all people regardless of their race, religion, net worth, or social standing.

McCain and Palin are the antithesis of this. They would set our Country back further with their attitudes (esp. Palin) of hate and division.

Please go VOTE!!! This Country needs a mandate! It needs to show ITSELF and the rest of the world that we do not accept hate, division, racism, religious intolerance, and general intolerance of anyone with a different lifestyle or belief than ourselves.

Black Male Dem   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

The way McCain runs his campaign is an indication as to how he will run the country should he win. Recklessly.

Daryl in Seattle   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Joe the Maverick Diva!! hahahaha

Ann L.   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Ah yes, now the real 'Joe the Plumber' is being seen - that would be the same Joe that skipped out on the fines he has in Mesa, AZ and the $1200 in back taxes he owes the IRS.
Does he skip out on plumbing jobs the same way he has skipped out on McCain; and if he does, how does he EVER hope to earn that $250k he asked Obama about?

marianne   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia in CA   October 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

It was quite amusing and in concert with how the McCain has been run to see McCain introduce this fraud and he not be there. It was quite funny, actually.

Vote Obama.

I'm not sure who I'm more sick of–"Joe" the fraud or McCain the liar.

All this focus on Joe the Plumber's tax breaks but if I made as much as Joe I wouldn't be worried about money....

There are places in America where the problems of drugs, homelessness, and violence are taking people's lives... but sure Joe... your business tax cuts are more impotrant....

OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!!!

Having an unreliable and unstable guy like Joe the "Plumber" as a mascot for the McCain-Palin campaign is a perfect metaphor for their utter incompetence as would-be leaders. Thanks, Joe, for being – well – you.

ObamaVolunteer   October 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

I am laughing too loud; that is why CNN keeps deleting my posts.

HA! HA! HA!

UNBELIEVABLE. The entire world knew Joe the non-plumber was to campaign with McCain today, and now he is a no-show. Say it ain't so Joe!

HA! HA! HA!

GOPHater   October 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

"Joe the plumber" is really wearing thin. Especially when one considers that the guy, an idiot, would do much better under Obama's tax plan then under McSame's. Pitiful bunch of crap.

That's ok, McCain has a new lineup of Joe's:

Joe The Grand Wizard

Carrie   October 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Let's see, when a voter asks Palin a question about Pakistan, it's "gottcha journalism," but when a voter asks a question that does not even affect him of Obama, then the McCain camp parades him around as legitimate. The facts are simple: McCain never vetted Palin and it is now obvious that he did not vet Joe. A total joke.

Billy Bob   October 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Joe is authentic, but Democrats wont let anyone oppose them unmolested if they can help it.

Then they act like it is Joes own fault that he had his taxzes audited and other government records searched for any transgressions.

USA get used to it, because if Obamites are this bad BEFORE getting into office, ponder how bad they will be when they are IN office.

lol

You know , this may seem like a small glitch but it really is a good window into the McCain Campaign and an example of what a train wreck it would be to have McCain in the White House.

Are these people on McCain's campaign staff for real? This campaign John McCain is running is a joke. And this is the same man that Republicans want us to elect for four years...unbelievable! I say, HELL NO!!! Now, I do believe that a rift exists between Palin and some of McCain's senior staffers, because no one seems to know what's going on, especially John McCain himself.

Shaking my head   October 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Ha!   October 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Looks like everyone McCain is pinning his campaign on is falling apart on him. First Palin, now Joe the Plumber... Just goes to show McCain should have relied on himself and not these surrogates.

Then again, that might not have helped much either, since he sacrificed his "maverick" image by kowtowing to the far right of his party.

MSU Dem   October 30th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Mike   October 30th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Another indication of the solid and effective team that McCain has built (sarcasm intended). What a pathetic demonstration he is giving of his "so called" leadership skills. You are telling me that no one had the responsibility for checking to see if he was really there before John called on him from the mic???? His campaign is crumbling.

I am sure that there will be more backdoor sniping and "anonymous source" comments between staff members as a result of this one. Thank goodness McCain has only been in charge of his campaign, and not the country. We need to make sure in 5 days that he is not promoted to being responsible for all of us.

GOP Pay As You Go Society   October 30th, 2008 11:55 am ET

McCain has run such a poor campaign with no focus and has offered nothing of substance to contrast himself to the policy rollout of Obama. Then, looking at his "executive" decisions: first Palin (a knee-jerk impulse that by itself strikes fear in most reasonable Americans); then, the bank bailout to buy mortgages at "face" when there is no valuation model that shows their true value – how clueless.

The only chief executive with measured, calculated muscle to carrry out the job is the one that took down Hillary and has made a farce of the GOP: Obama

Dave   October 30th, 2008 11:55 am ET

The International Republican Institute, under McCain's leadership in the 1990s, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to a Palestinian research organization that Khalidi helped found.

Is that an ice berg I see?   October 30th, 2008 11:54 am ET

No show Joe. This really is funny! The McCain camp has egg on its face yet again. How incompetent is thi campaign. No worries, he has nothing to add to this presidential race anyway. His 15 minutes of fame are well and truly up, thank goodness. Watch out , ice berg ahead! An the band played on.

Please stop reporting this non-news.

Christine   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

He's just enjoying and making the most of his 15 minutes of fame..totally based on his deception.

Considering McCain and Palin have been building their recent campaign around sound bites related to the guy... they are getting pretty much what they deserved.

Maybe they can get Joe 6-Pack to show up and cover for him...wink, wink!

Janet from Ohio   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Doesn't Joe have a job? When does Joe the Plumber actual do his plumbing? Can we drop this idiot already?

J from Toledo   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

If he is such a hard worker then why is he always at home or at campaign events. All of the real workers that I know go to work everyday...

FD   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

McCain! McCain!! Pick me! Pick me!! I also want to buy my boss' business and it makes way more than $280,000 per year! I will show up at your rallies! I will go to your fund raisers!! I will even agree to serve on your cabinet! Forget Joe – pick me!! And I promise I will come up with a catchy name like Jordan the Warden or something like that.

Michael Ogu,Dortmund Germany   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Don't be surprise to hear Joe voting for Obama on 4th Nov.
That is not going to surprise at least me,if Joe finds out the truth of change that America needs!!!

McCain is like is like someone who is drowning ... they will tag onto anything even a straw to try and save themselves. After all tricks failed to work in his favor, he believes that Joe the Plumber is the panacea for his wobbling campaign for the White House.
Go Obama, Go Biden.

paul (reformed republican)   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

It is sad that McCain has done this to this man. Next week when the Election is over, win or lose, McCain will cut this guy loose, send him back to Toledo and if he is extremely lucky he'll still have a job.

I gotta be honest and say if I was the owner/ceo of the plumbing company Joe was working for and he took off to "pal around with politicians" I'd consider him as "he quit."

Taz   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Greg in Lwrence, KS   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Guess good old Samuel (CNN, his name is SAMUEL, for the love of truth just say it like it is) had a few too many beers last night, and felt like sleeping in.

This is just the kind of "miscommunication" that truant employees have with their employers when they "forget" to come to work as scheduled.

Potential successful small business owner indeed.

Jude   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Okay...perhaps finally we could put "Joe" to rest? hehehe

Sam7_OR   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

This man cannot even manage his own campaign, and still, there are some people who think that he can manage a Superpower…

McCain’s campaign is 'truly' a joke!

Don't Fall for The Okie Doke   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Joe, err Sam, you are being used like a $2 – crack hoe but you don't even realize it.

These Republicans don't care two hoots about by you. John McCain put the spotlight on you without even asking you if it would be OK. It's him that is to blame for media digging into your income levels, lack of a plumbers liscense and overdue tax issues.

Palin was being used too and you see how they've begun to turn on her as her appeal has wained.

Don't be stupid Joe. After McCain looses, and he will lose, what's left for you? You'll have burned bridges with those in Ohio that could help you and McCain will kick you under the bus.

#1 Son   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Man, Joe know he's wrong lol!!! I heard the McCain speech & Palin speech today constantly referring to "Joe the Plumber". I guess the McCain/Palin campaign didn't get the memo. Talk about Straight getting off the Straight Talk Express!!!! LMAO

Dems Have Brains   October 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

It's truly a sad commentary for the McCain campaign that they are actually using this clown to try to gain votes. If this is the best the Republicans can offer, they truly deserve to go down in flames.

The JM/SP campaign could not find organize a three person parade. And they think they can run the country?

Not ready to lead - yet or ever.

Vote today for Obama.

wildflower   October 30th, 2008 11:52 am ET

This is so sad. I would give them the benefit of the doubt on the "miscommunication" but don't you think someone would have confirmed he was there before introducing him? That is more than "slightly awkward" – that is pathetic and out of touch. Is this who we want running our country? I think not.

Truth Hurts   October 30th, 2008 11:52 am ET

I guess Joe The Plumber is going out on his own. He doesn't need McCain now. He's a star. Maybe his agent advised him against being seen with McCain anymore. Too funny.

Speider   October 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Why are we listening to non-stories about this? Are there not more important things that deserve column space?

I hear Palin is under investigation for ethics violations and misappropriating state funds for her family. I think that's pretty important as she may be in a position to misappropriate U.S. taxpayers' money and not just Alaskans' tax money.

Of course, anyone who has ever needed the services of a plumber knows, you sort have to go by their hours. If Senator McCain would wait between the hours of 9 and 5 on Friday, I'm sure Mr. Wurzelbacher will be able to slot him in for an appointment.

Lorna, NY   October 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Joe the Plumber is a loser. I wonder how much the McCain campaign is paying this nut case. This is the most pathatic move in political history. John McCain has lost all respect...a maverick he is NOT!

No show Joe...George Jones would be proud.

Andrew from Canada   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

The McCain campaign made fun of Barack Obama for being a community organizer, but they should have spent more time taking lessons from Mr. Obama on how to organize an effective presidential campaign. They cannot even schedule an "Average Joe" for their campaign event!! Let's see who they'll blame the miscommunication on! These are the people you want leading your country??

I'm still shocked that this guy has become such a crucial part of their campaign, it sounds so childish when they announce "Joe the Plumber", or "Tito the Builder". They treat their supporters like children, but perhaps that's the level of their intelligence.

For all those that call Obama an empty suit, what the hell does that make you? I highly doubt that you have a quater of his credentials or intelligence.

Andrew

Please post CNN, I was being nice this time.

I was going to say "just like a plumber," but that's not fair to real plumbers.

Fary from ATL   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Maybe Joe the plumber wanted to get back to his day job. Or maybe they said "hey Sam, can you show up at the rally?" and he forgot that was his name and hence did not show up.

Kevin   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Jim   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Tired of the spotlight yet, Joe? Going to run for congress? Going to be a singer?

He's not a plumber anyway. People need to stop with this

Sara   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

I knew Joe the plumber was supposed to be out on the trail today with McCain since yesterday and they're trying to tell me HE didn't know?

Hmmm... maybe they don't want him there after that, "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel" Even Shepard Smith was baffled by the stupidity.

Steve Hamilton   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

When McCain calls out to the voters on Tues. I doubt they will show up for him either. Maybe Joe the Plumber is busy doing some work for Ted Stevens.

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Another fundamental reason why McCain will never win the election: people cannot stand the idea of 4 more years of "Joe The Plumber"!

David Newport, OR   October 30th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Palin and Joe the plumber in 2012...how much better can a ticket get? They would be running on the concept that "I'm the dumbest". "No...I am". NO...I AM!!!

Just another example of a poor show on the part of the Rebublicans. The McSane camp doe snot have it all together and in the final days before the election there will be more screw ups! They have made Joe look like he is the most important person in America and he certainly is not. What a mishap!!!

Dina Phila., Pa   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

This is totally ridiculous! I cannot believe that this person was even on the campaign trail! The story that John McCain has told around this guy is crazy! This man doesn't even have a plumbing company, he doesn't make close to 200K a year, people are donating money to help him pay his back taxes, etc....

Can someone tell me how he is even getting air time! Here we go again, another blunder for John McCain! McCain has piss poor judgment! First, Sarah, now this non-business owner, back taxed, loser not showing up for the rally! Does anyone know what's going on in the McCain camp!

CANADIAN FOR OBAMA   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Not even Joe want to be seen with McCain. You should choose your friends more carefully, they all seem to be stabbing you in the back. Who will you turn to now?

David, Silver Spring, MD   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I guess everybody's getting mavericky. Sarah openly disagrees with her running mate, and now "Joe the Plumber" is skipping campaign rallies to sleep in late.

What a way to run a country.

Jon Stewart   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

This is the real question for America – do we want this poorly run McCain campaign and team to run America? I am not willing to take that chance, given the lousy way the past 8 years have been managed.

Mary Steins   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

LS, Austin, Texas   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I can't believe McCain has chosen to have this guy as a part of his, so called, campaign. The decisions McCain and Palin have made in regards to their actions and remarks are very awkward.

If McCain wants to put his country first, he should drop out of the race.

McCain is going to continue to make a fool of himself til the every end, along with Palin and Joe- the three awkward fools.

Been reading this since 9am.CNN post my comment! I posted first!   October 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Mc Cain should do the country the favor and drop out of the race and save the country the time, the money and the trouble ( and leave, by leaving the American people with whatever is worth to remember about John Mc Cain – Mc cain the POW – not the politician ; Picking Palin without a background check was the biggest mistake of his campaign, panicking during the financial crisis and wanting to suspend your campaign, didn't say much about his experience either). His been tested "my friend" and he has failed.Barack talks about the issues, Mc Cain acts like a kiddengarden child, looking for insulting epithets ( socialist, radical ), and tries to score points by punching below the belt because he can not conceive anything intelligent to say and make a point. He is desperately trying to stay afloat, well here is the life vest: He should concede in dignity before he looses in a mudslide. And he should do himself the favor and separate himself from the likes of Sarah Palin and "Joe the plumber."

mccain wants to give more tax breaks to the Big Oil companies. Exxon netted $14.8 billion this past quarter. In only three months they made profit of almost $15 billion after expenses and taxes. Do they really need more breaks? How many new hires like Joe the plumber have they taken on with all this wealth? The Big Oil keeps sticking it to us with the help of mccain/palin. GOBAMA!

Abdul   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

By speaking publically, Joe is asking to be vetted, questioned, examined, yada yada yada....
"Joe the Plummer didn't ask to be made famous! Give him a big round of applause! Now leave him alone!!"

Ally   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Embarrasing. Sounds like the entire campaign communication strategy.

paulaa   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Could the MCain campaign get any worse.......what a joke! This should give everyone an idea of how McCain would run the nation. It's sad, that after all he has done, history will remember him for this pathetic campaign. I haven't seen this much hate and divisiveness since the race riots in the 60's......a sad legacy for McCain to leave behind. We need to go forward, not backward. America NEEDS Obama, especially after what the McCain campaign has done. We need to UNITE to move forward.

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

It appears Joe The Plumber is always there at home ready for the next interview...

Does he ever do any plumbing work at all?

Tony   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I feel sorry for the guy as he is going to be dropped by the Republicans like a hot potato next week. No wonder he is now trying to get a recording deal before the spotlight shuts off.

What's a VP's job? Ask a 3rd grader!   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Joe, it appears your 15 minutes of fame are up. John, it appears your fame is also fleeting.

Joseph   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Priceless.

Such a well-managed campaign. Imagine such organization (and reliance on such wonderful "symbols") when leading the nation.

Vote for competence. Vote for Obama.

travis   October 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

LOL. McCain campaign is a bad joke!

MARC   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Does this guy even have a job?

Robert   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I dont think that Joe the Plumber is a McCAIN supporter, that is why he is refusing to appear at any of his rally.

Independent   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Ha Ha Ha ... does McCain know ANYTHING that is going on in his campaign ? Is it actually HIS campaign ?

McCrazy   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

This is what happens when you hang your political future on a fake plumber.

Kenneth   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

LOL.
"My friends, here is Joe the Plumber!"
**Waits**
**Cries**

Repub 4 Obama   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Mike   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

cnn is constantly just reporting negative things about McCain.
What about Obama's slip in the polls? Where is your poll of polls now?

Pete the Programmer   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I didn't show up either, why am I not in the news?

Catherine   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

McCain stop beating a dead horse "Joe the Plumber" is a fraud and is now using you for his stepping stone...just like Palin.

McCain your campaign strategies have been a complete failure!!!!

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Another deserter. Ha ha. John sang like a bird in Viet Name (failed that test, didn't he?) Now maybe he will whine about joe the plumber deserting. Wait – don't rats desert a sinking ship?

Obama/Biden '08 – the guys that will protect ALL of our Constitutional Rights !!!!!

Ed, Santa Fe NM   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Awwwww..... a faux celebrity as star of a faux campaign is missing.... what a shocker

All McCain and Barbie do is LIE and SMEAR and WHINE.

Billy   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

How could this be? CNN reported that Joe was with McCain... is it possible that CNN and John McCain didn't get the updated McCain campaign talking points this morning?

CNN–report the story of how McCain gave over $500,000 to Khalidi!

Ann   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

SPLASH! The sound of another rat jumping ship.

slickingdom   October 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I'm sure John McCain IS IN DEFIANCE !!! Joe-the-plumber is going to the
Philadelphia Phillies parade !!!

David in Minneapolis   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Well...now, doesn't that just sum up John McCain's entire campaign? One "miscommunication" after another.

Soon this is going to be over and we can return to the days of having a true leader sitting in the President's office...I don't think that will be Senator McCain though.

James in Utah   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Well what did McCain expect from the Joe or is it Sam? Who's idea was this anyway? Tell you what, have your people call my people and we'll do lunch.

Tim   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

JOE THE PLUMBER HAS GONE ROGUE!

KAREN - TIRED OF Palin / McCain and JOE WHOMEVER THE HELL HE IS...   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Shouldn't Joe the whomever he is be working to pay back his taxes? Or is the Republican party taking care of that also? It's obvious this guy never had a job and was a plant by the McCain campaign and the Republican Party. All of McCain dirty tactics are backfiring on him and we the American people are voting for change.

Obama/Biden '08

Eric   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Hahahaha, did you ever see such an unprofessional campaign like this one? McCain should have known not to count on this guy, hey, he does not even pay his taxes. Five days to go and McCain will be out of his misery.

Ross   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

OWNED.

And that's pretty much all I have to say about that.

Michelle, PA   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

"Joe the Plumber" was too busy working on his book deal, recording contract and Congressional campaign to bother with "John the Candidate" who discovered him. It's sad to see how quickly they forget the "little folks" once fame and fortune go to their heads......

MLD ND   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Even Joe , not really a plumber, is doing a Palin, looking out for number one.

M.lyons   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

amazing...

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Maybe "Joe The Plumber" has finally found out than 99.9% of plumbers make less than $250K a year…

VOTE! OBAMA!!! VOTE! OBAMA!! VOTE!   October 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Joe, Joe, Joe, lying Joe!!! See he lied about his name, lied about having a plumbers license, lied about buying a business and now he's lying to McCain!! Yeah you get what you give, he's out for himself.

Just another ploy spoiled by the McCain camp against the McCain camp.

Crazy Cat Lady   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Another wheel comes off the Straight-Into-The-Ditch bus.

Given the dreadful incompetence of how he's run his campaign, one can only imagine how chaotically awful a McCain administration would be.

Manny   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Wow!!! Is this a joke?!?!?! Talk about communication problems.

And this team is what 42% of the country think should run the white house?!?!?! Get real!

Obama-Biden '08!

Robert   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

This is a sign that Joe the plumber dont really like John McCain.

Saad from NJ   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

He probably had too much to drink last night.... I tell you, I feel bad for the poor guy....

Dexter Skagway   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

How low has political discourse gotten when Joe the Stereotype is a viable topic. Joe the Plumber, Joe Sixpack, jeez, can't the Republicans find something of substance to talk about instead of bombing us with these childish stereotypes?

And why has Joe McCarhty-style wild accusations become the norm for people like Palin, McCain and Elizabeth Dole? Godless terrorist radicals!!!! Is the American public so gullible? Are these candidates so deluded and desperate?

Hannathehairdresser   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Whoopsy, there you go again Joe...where'd you go? Book signing or recording studio...need a snake?

Plumbers and Republicans...great combo!

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I think Joe The Plumber didn't shw up because nobody bought new clothes for him... LOL

cherrystrawberry   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

LOL!!!! God and some of you idiots trust McCain to run the counmtry?!?!?!?!?!? LOL. AMAZING

Elizabeth - Texas - Former Republican   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Now McCain can't trust Palin or Joe "the Plumber". I bet Joe votes for Obama and Joe "the Biden".

Taz   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Mc Cain should do the country the favor and drop out of the race and save the country the time, the money and the trouble ( and leave, by leaving the American people with whatever is worth to remember about John Mc Cain – Mc cain the POW – not the politician ; Picking Palin without a background check was the biggest mistake of his campaign, panicking during the financial crisis and wanting to suspend his campaign, didn't say much about his experience either). And he should do himself the favor and separate himself from the likes of Sarah Palin and "Joe the plumber."

soundbyte   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I wonder how is the McCain campaign managed. If McCain and his aides can't even manage the campaign, how will he fair when managing the whole country?

JP   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Too funny, already dissing the man who made him a "star".

Danny, OH   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

What a Joke. Sounds like Comicview

Laurren   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Is somebody having second thoughts about voting for McCain???

surprise   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Joe is fed up...he does not want to be used by Mccan and Palin.....

F. Taylor   October 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

WOW!

From the begining the McCain campaign has been in a state of organized confusion relying on deception and slander to over shadow how the Bush and McCain polciies are the same in all areas both foreign and domestic.

james in s.c.   October 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

LOL LOL,
awwww, i supposed he didn't want to make a total fool of himself again. more like mccain has made a bigger fool out of himself letting that idiot to become a mascot!!

Hpotterfan77 from CT   October 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Yup...smart guy...yup...picked by McCain....Maybe JTP thinks he's a celebrity now and therefor is too important to actually campaign with JM....2 winners I tell you. More examples of how out of touch JM's whole campaign is with EVERYTHING! They can't even get their appearances straight...hahahahaha. BO/JB '08/'12

Chris in SC   October 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Truly priceless!

Tomkat   October 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Careful J. T. Plumber, you will be McCain's next scapegoat when he loses on Tuesday...

ST   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Boy, McCain's campaign is falling apart at the seams. Why does he have this guy campaigning for him anyway? He seems dumb as rocks. When he was asked a question about a policy, he couldn't give an intelligent answer.

SoCal   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Maybe "Joe The Plumber" has finally found out than 99.9% of plumbers make less than $250K a year...

Chris in SC   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

I would have loved to see the expression on McCain's face when his fake plumber pulled the no-show. Oh, wait, it will probably be on YouTube!!

Ted   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

This is now beyond funny. It's pathetic.

mds   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Get rid of Joe Please!!!!!!

Ben   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Too funny, keep up the good work Joe!

danel   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

When is this guy will be called "Joe the phony

Terri, Atlanta   October 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Hilarious! Maybe Joe is done USING Johnny boy.
Hey Joe – your 15 minutes are up – you were a fraud right from the start -NOT a real plumber, don't make anywhere near $250k like you told Mr. Obama and DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT A SOCIALIST IS? If not, ask Gov Palin – she is a socialist – after all she took from the oil companies and gave to the Alaskan people ....spread the wealth ...even in her own words.

Joe M   October 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

For a guy concerned about taxes, he sure doesn't work much. I smell a rat or maybe even another "Whack Job".

Sonya   October 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Oh my! Is the famous Joe changing his mind?!

A sad moment for Mr. McCain.

John   October 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Joe has jumped from the sinking ship SS McBush. He and his Hollywood Agent are planning for the Moose Bush/Fake Joe 2012 campaign.

Candy West Virginia   October 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

If mccain runs this country like he has run his campaign we are in big trouble if he wins. I wish joe the liar would take a hike to alaska.
mccain/palin = pathological liars!
