The candidates reacted this morning to tough news about the economy.

(CNN) – Both presidential campaigns reacted Thursday morning to news the nation's economy slammed into reverse in the third quarter and suffered the biggest decline in seven years.

The gross domestic product, the broadest measure of the nation's economy, fell at an annual rate of 0.3 percent in the period, according to a government report Thursday. That compared with a 2.8 percent growth rate in the second quarter, when economic stimulus checks and strong exports resulted in solid growth that vanished in the latest reading.

Stooly: I have new that may shock you but the current American tax system is redistributive. I guess all the current politicians, Republicans too, are not considered socialists.

What would you rather earn:

$50K/year taxed at 20%

or

$250K/year taxed at 35%

There is still plenty of incentive to want to earn more. Besides, your satisfaction in life shouldn't solely be tied to earning money. You should want to contribute to the good of society as well. I would not be proud raping the land of minerals and flooding the same land with chemical if that is how I made my money. There needs to be more thought before people like you say what you do.

McCain sounds like a little baby when he keeps bring up that Obama broke his promise about campaign financing.......Obama saw the kind of campaign he wanted to run and how much it would take to do it and he opted to take Public Financing........that's called smart thinking........he knew from the past that the Republicans have always had the more money and Democrats couldn't compete with their advertising...........this is the kind of Smart Thinker I want for President of the United States......

Obviously, Obama doesn't even understand the stock market. He showed that when he claimed the recent declines inthe market were the final verdict for the last eight years. Guess what Barack, the market is a leading indicator, not a lagging indicator. It doesn't move based on what has happened but instead, it moves based on what investors foresee for the future.

The Dow is down over 2,000 points since it became clear in late-September (according to most polls) that Obama was going to win this election. Not a vote of confidence for an Obama presidency.

To all McCain & Palin Supporters,

And for those who think Senator Obama will raise taxes on middle income families. First ask yourselves, did you really look at both candidates tax relief proposals and compare them based on different income brackets?
If you have not, please do, and at the end if you could still say McCain's tax relief plan is better for the average American household (who makes between $38K and $66K), go and vote for Senator McCain.
Also ask yourself, how does a government generate revenue? In order to serve its citizens better, how can a government possibly finance / pay for all its public projects and services for its citizens to improve their quality of life?
I am a permanent resident in this country and I make over $200K a year. Like every responsible person, I pay my taxes to the government so the government can invest my tax dollars for my kids and for the future generations of this country in the form of better education, healthcare, research and development, conservation and public services.
Senator McCain claims that Senator Obama wants to spread the wealth around by taking money from average Americans and give it to the poor. Do you really think his argument has valid points? Well here it goes… according to Senator Obama's tax plan; middle income families (Average Americans) get the biggest tax relief, if so how is it possible for Senator Obama to take "Joe the plumber's money" –if Joe the plumber is an average American as senator McCain claims and makes between $38K to $66K- and spread around? Senator McCain's claim is totally false and misleading.
What senator Obama wants to achieve is that by raising the taxes only on individuals who make more than $250K and on Corporations that make billions of dollars, the government can invest into the programs such as education, health care, research and development, new sources of energy, and projects such as infrastructure improvements, housing and urban developments. These investments would not only create millions of jobs but also strengthen the economy, improve the quality of life of American people, save the future of next generations, give a fighting chance to even the littlest guy to be somebody by attending to the best schools in the world or working hard and realize the American dream. This is the way how this country came out of great depression and this is how the great society was formed, and unfortunately we are far from it today.

T. Holmes   October 30th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Its unbelievable. McCain has this "Joe the plumber" guy actually campaigning for him. This guy knows not the first thing about foreign policy or economics yet is sharing the stage with a man purporting to solve these problems for us. First Palin "the diva" and now Joe.

Remember, the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. That goes for Socialism as well as anything else.

A few softball questions that give McCain the chance to lie unchallenged on national TV? Is Larry doing a news show or a celebrity love-in? Hmm, seem McCain should be happy his buddies at Exxon Mobil made so much money. Maybe he could decide NOT to give them the billion or so in tax breaks he wants to.

Fact – McCain plans to give each CEO of Fortune 500 companies $700,000 in tax credits. That is EACH. Nevermind that these guys make over a million dollars a year and that they don't NEED a tax break on their individual income taxes.

Fact – Sen. Obama has NEVER set the bar at $300,000 as I saw some incompentent commentor note in another post.

Fact – McCain is buddies with G. Gordon Liddy, look him up. Sarah Palin is pals with Ted Stevens and the Alaskan Independence Party. Look 'em up.

Fact – the world is watching us to see if we make the right decision. If we let McCain and Palin's fear tactics win this election all of our enemies will see how easily influenced we are by fear. Trust me, the attacks will get worse.

Dan, TX   October 30th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Trickle down, or VOODOO Economics as George Bush called it, has failed. It is fine to do the experiment, but the data is now in. It has failed. Trickle up certainly is no better. Obviously it is both that make a good economy. And that is what we had with Reagan and Clinton. Reagan proposed trickle down and everyone making over $350,000 a year paid 38.9% as the highest tax rate. Clinton moved it to 39% to balanced the budget, grow the economy and help everyone with controlling spending.

Obama proposes 39%. Maybe that is too high, maybe it should be 38.9% like Reagan had. Perhaps if we sit down and compromise. Start with raising taxes back to 38.9% on the rich from the 33% it is now and certainly not the 28% that John McCain wants for the rich. And let's see how it works out.

The Economist Endorses Obama

The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence. But we acknowledge it is a gamble. Given Mr Obama’s inexperience, the lack of clarity about some of his beliefs and the prospect of a stridently Democratic Congress, voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead.

This ad was a great use of money. It was on major networks for 30 min and was viewed across the USA. Many people will have seen it. It was worth far more than ads in several states and it gave people a clear message that could never be conveyed in a 30 second ad. This will also be replayed on the news and by pundits so it will hold the headlines longer. A very strategic decision and it maximized the use of $3 million. This could not have been better spent. The message conveyed hope and purpose. It clearly outlined Obama’s policies and beliefs. It showed that America can unite and can achieve greatness.
Even if you disagree with Obama’s message, this presentation shows that America needs to work together—no that’s not socialism it is unity. Right now, America needs to vote.

Charlie Bradley   October 30th, 2008 11:11 am ET

If McCain has such great plans for the economy and for that matter ending the war, why not talk them up instead of continually discrediting Obama.

What is so good about Obama's plan? Making employers provide insurance will cause more of them to leave or make more job cuts. "Spreading the wealth" that is about as unamerican as you can get. This is America people should be allowed to make a fortune that is why many come here. Oh well just forget the fundamentals of our Government and vote for a socialist. I am not rich but I am not jealous of people who have money. If you don't like your current economic status then do something about it. Take risks as most of the rich have, get an education, or just work more hours. The fact is most Democratic Americans are lazy and think the government or employers should be responsible for them! This is the land of the free and it should be kept that way take care of yourself and grow up. McCain is not a savior but he is a better alternative then voting for a radical that does not believe in the true meaning of America which is FREEDOM!

Obama simply does not understand it. Socialism, with big well-fare system, big government, more regulations, higher taxes, and less freedom for the people, simply does not work, in many Asian and European countries. Working people will be punished or taxed to "spread the wealth" or pay for the well-fare, and financ his big spending. Obama is the worst extreme leftist socialist, even worse than Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and John Edwards. When Barack Obama cancels the tax-cut programs by George Bush, he will automatically raise all the taxes for all of us.

Obama's response: "It's not that I want to punish your success, BUT... we gotta spread the wealth around."

Raise taxes on business and capital gains? say buh-bye to jobs.

He should spread around some of the $600 million he brought in on by breaking his word. That would put a lot of underprivileged kids through college and pay for a lot of abortions.

It does matter whos president concerning the economy. I don't care for either of the runners. However, Obama wants to raise taxes, start the death tax up again and multitudes of other taxes. This will ruin an already money starved public. Think about it. If you want more taxes and less jobs from Obama taxing businesses. Small businesses at that. And they will have to lay off people and increase prices to stay alive. McCain will be the only way to go at the present. Maybe you have lots of money and don;t care. But, I don't and most of my friends don't. WE DO NOT NEED MORE TAXES PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan   October 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

beyond the hype,

And McCain is the answer? I think his promises are a hell of a lot more ludicrous than Obama's (ie – "I know how to fix the economy ... I'll fix it" and "I know where Osama Bin Laden is ... I know how to get him ... I'll get him.") Does he really know where Bin Laden is? Really? He honestly sounds like a defensive fifth grader when he says that kind of stuff. Not to mention the fact that lately, he never seems to focus on what HE HIMSELF would do as president ... just on how potentially bad Obama would be.

BTW, McCain looked awful on Meet the Press the past weekend. Someone needed to say it.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin need to shift his economic philosphy to accommodate for the shifting circumstances and not continue on a model that brought on the calamity of our economic nose dive. He fails to understand that while Bush injected the current policies back when he did it cost taxpayers mounting costs that led to trillion dollar deficit for a zero ROI for all taxpayers and not just to the rich who got richer! How else can the government reel in fresh funds to reduce the deficit while improving the economy without MONEY! It takes money to make money, stupid! Stop thinking with the heart and start reacting with common sense!

UNION WORKERS FOR MCCAIN   October 30th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Why a bad economy helps Democrats is beyond me. It should hurt them. Every time we've raised taxes in a bad economy, it's gotten worse. That was done in 1929 and plummeted the country into the Great Depression. What a shame the general public, especially the looney left, is ignorant of this proven fact.

Stimulis package is a fancy name for spreading the wealth and giving Alaskans a check a month for the oil they drill there is socialism and we pay for it at the pump. Companies sending jobs over seas is anti american and those owners should loose their right to vote and should no longer be considered americans. The republican rich while saying they are patriotic needs to pay their share in taxes to help pay for the wars in Iraq and Afgahnistan..Freedom comes with a cost.

I am not an economist but I beleive the article and many experts state that the only reason we had growth last quarter was due to the stimulus checks (you know, money we borrowed from China to buy stuff made in China to make it look like we are not so deep in the hole). The stimulus package was a temporary fix and now that the fix is gone, the true nature of the economy is showing itself. Our economy hasn't been growing for some time- Bush and his Republican policies have just been hiding this fact very well.

First thing is we sometimes have so many good candidates that we fight with each other like sibling rivalry, but we make nice in the end. Second we all hate the faux news channel, in fact we do two things every morning here at the party, we read the bible, and watch Faux news because we want to see what both sides are doing. We have pictures of the Kennedy's hanging on our walls, it is a sacralage to speak ill of any Kennedy. Finally we are all issued a Sean Hanity voodoo doll with a lighter, and large sewing needles.

Do us all a favor Mc Cain, Drop out of the race and save the country the time, the money and the trouble ( and leave, by leaving the American people with whatever is worth to remember about John Mc Cain – Mc cain the POW – not the politician ; Picking Palin without a background check was the biggest mistake of your campaign, panicking during the financial crisis and wanting "suspend your campaign" didn't say much about your experience either). You've been tested my friend, and you have failed.
Barack talks about the issues, Mc Cain acts like a kiddengarden child, looking for insulting epithets ( socialist, radical ), and tries to score points by punching below the belt because he can not conceive anyhting intelligent to say and make a point.
Mc Cain you are desperately trying to stay afloat, here is your life vest. Concede in dignity before you loose in a mudslide.

This country is in shambles right now. Jobs being lost left and right. We need someone who is dedicated and ready to lead this great nation on the right path again. We can't afford 8 more years of the same "trickle down" policies any longer. We need someone who will look out for the people rather than big oil and big corporations.

I pray that Obama gets elected. We need change and we need it in a hurry. McCain and Palin will just bring us more of the same 8 years.

Barack Obama is going to be the next president of the United States of America. I personally think no matter what your political beliefs are that this is going to be a great step forward for the American people. Yesterday I saw kids in high school with "Obama is my homeboy" t-shirts on. How can anyone think that is not a great thing? The GOP has tried to paint Barack as a "celebrity" like that is a bad thing unfortunately celebrities mold our countries young minds much more than presidents do, isn't it about time we had a celebrity worth looking up to.

You've had 2 tests, John.

Your VP selection & your lack of Leadership on the Economic Crisis.

And in the meantime, Exxon set a record for profits last quarter (something like $14 billion)... and other oil companies weren't that far behind. This has been going on for a few years now. Why are these companies allowed to gouge consumers & rake in billions of dollars while the average American has to deal with layoffs, foreclosures, the disappearance of healthcare & their own pensions, and other woes? I guess it helps to have a fellow cowboy in the White House. Thank God the end of his term is coming up.

Every economic recession this country ever had including the great depression came at the hands of the republicans. If you don’t believe Google "us recession" write down the dates and see who was president. not very complicated

It takes lots of people spending money not just a hand full, swapping out their Mercedes for Bentleys.

As far as cutting the top corporate for rate for Monopolies it just going to make them a larger monopoly also bad for the economy.

From Dreams of My Father:
"I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."
"I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."

Those who are receiving medicare benefits better investigate Obama's comment in the last debate on where he would make cuts in the budget. Obama said he would cut medicare subsidies to the insurance companies. I checked to find out what that would affect. All supplemental plans (Humana, Secure Horizons,AARP etc.)premiums would increase, medical costs, so would drugs and co-pays for seniors.

McCain has NO plan for the economy and how to turn it around – if he did – he has had more than ample time to present it and to gain the support of the millions of Americans who are facing severe financial hardship if not financial collapse as a result of DEREGULATION, OUTRAGEOUS SPENDING BY THE REPUBLICANS and the wrong war.

We truly need a purge and a new beginning – as an independent who is actually conservative in economic viewpoint – I believe we need to take a real turn to what has turned out to be 8 years of spending, taxing the middle income and giving grand and mega sized tax cuts to the rich and large companies such as Exxon/Mobil.

No one from the GOP is out campaigning for John McCain and it's McCain's own faught, should have never picked Palin. McCain's poor judgement in supporting Bush 95% of the time and poor judgement picking Palin is enough to make anybody run away from him. John McCain somehow along the way totally lost his bearings and it may be due to his age. The best thing for McCain to do is attempt to cleanup his image which has been severly damaged, but it appears he's not willing to do that so he just continues down the same destructive path and that's the same destructive path he would lead our country into.

Senator McCain wants to give additional child credit to working americans. That credit wil also go to non working americans. It rewards you for having children not paying taxes. A tax credit reduces the amount of income tax a working american will pay on their tax return.

McCain is tanking the election to be vindicative for not getting the nomination.. so yes bring out Joe the Plumber while Exxon keeps raking it in... John Mc has done it again.. He has the Rogue Barracuda/Diva/Whack Job, Joe the Plumber, and the "Base".. Since I am not a part of his base should I think he cares for me... I can't wait till Nov. 5th....what a bunch!!

CD   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Shame on that fat crazy lazy Lou Dobbs. Last night he kept screaming that our economy is not as bad to drum up support for McCain because he knows economic woes are hitting Americans to vote for Obama. Lou Dobs is no Independent he is a BIGOT.

MsAnnette, Little Rock, AR   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

I've already cast my vote for Obama/Biden and it felt soooooo good!!

MARY   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Well, Exxon Mobile just reported its earnings and WOW!!!!!!!! This is who McCain supports. How about Exxon spreading some of that wealth by giving away free gas or sending all Americans a nice stimulus check. No, they are probably planning their big party right now and figuring out the big bonus for their executives.

alvino   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Maybe John McCain will explain his reason for giving a half million dollars to Rashid Khalidi. According to Sarah Palin, he is a spokesperson for the PLO.

Uncle Fester   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Tough economic news-brought to you courtesy of the policies of
Bush and McCain.
So what does McCain do? He trots out a fake plumber, who thinks he is going to buy a business, except he can't afford it; who thinks that licenses are for everyone else; who thinks paying taxes is for everyone else. What a complete joke

Purple Nurple   October 30th, 2008 10:33 am ET

We all know we are in ression. I guess they had to wait for the numbers to come in, but talking to the average american and listeninng to him her say we are in a ression is not good enough for the Rich guy rethug party. I knew something was wrong last year, but I could not "prove it" with number. Oh well, Obama is going to win next week and I am taking my country back from the thug party!! you betcha....wink....wink!!

Obama/Biden 08!!!!!!!!

Please vote Obama/Biden '08/'12. We as Americans need a positive
new direction. The McCain/Joe-the-plumber ticket is all washed up !!

On November 4th
Vote Obama/Biden '08/'12

Amy from MIchigan   October 30th, 2008 10:32 am ET

McCain wants to give another 4 billion in tax breaks to companies like Exxon Mobile, who once again announced record profits today.

Unless Joe the Plumber holds Exxon stock, I don't think this will "trickle-down" to him anytime soon.

mike   October 30th, 2008 10:32 am ET

so, looking at this math, we have a 0.3 "annual" rate drop, that's actually only a 0.075% drop for the third quarter, subtract that from the 2.8% growth rate for the second quarter and you get at 2.725% GROWTH in the GNP for the last 2 quarters. Outside of the GROWTH being a bit slow, it's still GROWTH. This growth is also due in part by President George W. Bush's stimulus checks. Where's the problem Democrats?

Mimi   October 30th, 2008 10:32 am ET

You know....I'll bet Pres Bush voted for Obama! :-) )))))))

F. Taylor   October 30th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Obviously the GOP has completely lost it's way and unless they retool their party immediately there will not be any hope for recovery.

The sensible Republicans have all abandoned the GOP and are supporting Obama with nothing left for John McCain but the extemists and kooks with their own personal agendas.

America needs at least 2 strong political parties to keep an even balance but as of now there is only one so hopefully the GOP defectors can take their party over and get rid of the religious extremists and build their party back up again with a moderate agenda that works in today's society.

Karen   October 30th, 2008 10:31 am ET

John McCain will continue the failed economic policies that Pres. Bush has been using for the past eight years. We need change. Barack Obama is the ONLY change candidate. He has a real plan, a steady hand, and the temperament and wisdom to guide us through these difficult times. John McCain is erratic, and he lurches from one attack, plan, idea, plumber, to another. Senator Obama is the calm, clear voice in the storm.

Scott in Atlanta   October 30th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Interviewer: Senator Mccain and Governor Palin, what kind of plans do you have for this country?

James L   October 30th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I guess McCain sees no problem with Exxon's record profits this quarter. ... and that does not include the tax break he wants them to get under his tax plan. ...

Clinton Democrat for Obama   October 30th, 2008 10:30 am ET

With poor economic news like this, I'm glad Sen. McCain admits he's strong on the economy and chose a qualified runningmate who's strong on the economy

Well, let's see…the McCain/Palin campaign has been erratic, angry, flip-flopping, hateful, socially divisive, lying, distorting, extremist, unable to put together any coherent message/vision for the road they plan for this nation.

They have offered and continue to offer nothing. Zero. Zilch.

What does McCain bring to the table? 'Obama this', 'Obama that', 'That One'. Not one policy, plan or vision.

Oh...they brought 'Joe the Plumber', 'Tito the Builder', slanders of 'socialism', 'he was hanging out with washed up terrorists', 'he was hanging out with an Arab', sleaze, slander...lies.

Palin? All she has to offer is her religious extremism, corruption, ignorance and her idiocy.

No John, you don't have what it takes to rule this grand nation. You never did and never will.

'I'm not George Bush!' He says. Well 92% of you is.

You have sold your soul, dignity and honor for so little.

Go Away little man. You are not worthy.

John in Ohio   October 30th, 2008 10:28 am ET

There's a big difference between Obama's economic plan and McCain's trickle-down economic plan.

Think of the economy as a great big tree, with the wealthy way up as the top leaves, and the poor are the roots at the bottom. McCain wants to water the leaves on the top, and hope that the water trickles down and some water gets to the roots of the tree. Obama wants to water the ground at the base of the tree, where it is taken in by the roots, and goes up through the whole tree.

When the top gets money, there's no guarantee they'll use that to create jobs or to pay better wages. They'll hire as few people as they can, pay them as little as they can, and give the rest to themselves as bonuses. But when the roots get money, they're going to spend it, and when they spend the money, the people on the top make money. And it's not money handed to them by the government in the form of credits or tax cuts, it's money that gets pumped up to them through the capitalistic processes of our economic system.

If you only water the top of the tree, the roots die, and the tree dies. This is currently happening in our economy.

CD   October 30th, 2008 10:28 am ET

How stupid are republicans? If Obama is as dangerous as you say and the famous FBI, CIA and other law enforcement agencies allowed him to run for presidency then we are doomed. Get you scary acts out from our way and do something good with yourselves. This is the land of the free and we have decided Obama is the guy of reason for the season. Your fear tactics will not work. Well at least in the old testament God also used Gentile Kings in the bible that were not Jews or did not believe in him to help Israel and do his work.Learn from Jesus and do not judge like he forgave the adulterous woman and when he sent his disciples on a mission he told them not to judge but preach the good word and whoever accepts it fine if not just dust your feet and leave the judgment for God. I'm a christian too and don't believe in Abortion and other things like Gay marriage but I will spread the good news of God's love and leave it to God to judge them as Jesus instructed. And by the way we are all living a book written by God because he is Alpha and Omega and knows everything that will happen so give him credit for once that he is in charge of everything. He that has no SIN should cast the first stone.

Roger K.   October 30th, 2008 10:28 am ET

McCain does not seem to offer any solutions just attack. He wants to make Joe the Plumber a hero. Joe the Plumber can't even understand a tax chart.

Mimi   October 30th, 2008 10:28 am ET

That's one of McCain's problem..he's so busy talking about what Obama's policies are and we never hear him say anything except "I know how to fix it"...Hhhhhhooooowww man, hhhhhhoooowwww?????

Good send more stimulas checks to pay for bills and Bankruptcy trustees... looks like the big compainies will get a bigger piece if the pie, we want jobs America... Vote Joe the Plumber.. He's sharp on toilet Affairs. He's the future Washroom Secretary of State.
Exxon posted the largest profits ever for an American Company in this quarter. While that's great, ask John McCain why they need a tax break and people who posted a loss are being overlooked? Answer: Their lobbyists requested it.
This is a tough economic period for most of America yet McCain's proposals only benefit those on Easy Street. Who's lobbying for Americans? Where's your voice in Washington?

Barack Obama/ Joe Biden

Joe from Mahwah, NJ   October 30th, 2008 10:26 am ET

Record 3rq quarter profit for Exxon, though. Looks bad for McCain and all the more reason for Obama to halt those tax cuts to the oil companies.

Praetorian   October 30th, 2008 10:25 am ET

Depression...what depression?
All economic indicators are fine, the government has chipped in your future earnings to fix everything, it's smooth sailing at some "indescribable point" in the future.

Isn't it time we gave another party a chance to screw things up.

We need overwhelming Democratic ticket victories at all levels to send a unified message to all America (and the Republicans in particular) that bombastic messages of hate, distortions and lies will no longer be accepted in political campaigns.
Maybe, then in future, we can have all contestants from all parties focusing upon substantive issues that affect our lives.
IF WE VOTE LOUD ENOUGH MAYBE WE WILL BE HEARD.THE BEST WAY TO SHUT DOWN THE GOP TACTICS IS TO MAKE SURE YOU AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW VOTES 100% DEMOCRATIC. GET OUT THE VOTE; TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED; IRRESPECTIVE OF THE POLLS.

What is John McCain going to do now? I wish he would tell the American People what he will do except Joe the Plumber and Obama. They are not the key issues here.

McCain to campain with poor Joe the Unlicenced Plumber.

JD in Moraga, CA   October 30th, 2008 10:22 am ET

It's funny that McCain's comment does nothing to distance him from the "trickle down" nonsense of the current President (which he supports, and has supported for 90% of his voting record over the last 8 years). Rather, he simply continues to mis-characterize the policy positions of the Illinois Senator.

"Corporations have been enthroned .... An era of corruption in high places will follow and the money power will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people... until wealth is aggregated in a few hands ... and the Republic is destroyed."

McCain, what a joke. CNN why haven't you mentioned McCain's connection.

The International Republican Institute, under McCain's leadership in the 1990s, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to a Palestinian research organization that Khalidi helped found.
