McCain trails in key battleground states

McCain is losing his lead in certain key states.
McCain is losing his lead in certain key states.

(CNN)—With just five days before Election Day, a string off polls suggest John McCain still has his work cut out for him in some battleground states.

CNN’s latest Indiana poll of polls shows Sen. John McCain leading Sen. Barack Obama by one point, 47 percent to 46 percent. That’s one point narrower than the last Poll of Polls in the traditionally Republican state showing McCain leading Obama 48 to 46 percent.

Yesterday, CNN changed its electoral map for the state of Indiana from leaning toward McCain to a toss up between the two presidential candidates.

In Minnesota, where the Republicans held their convention, Obama is trumping McCain by 15 points, 54 percent to 39 percent. The margin was not as large in the last poll of polls which showed Obama ahead by 13 points as of October 23.

A new Wisconsin poll of polls also shows the Democratic Nominee ahead of the Republican nominee by 12 points, 53 percent to 41 percent.

While both candidates are working to remind voters the race is far from over, CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib suggests the latest poll averages in Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin “are another indication of Obama’s apparent strength in the closing days of this campaign.”

“Obama is now clearly within striking distance in Indiana –- a state no Democrat has won since 1964. It’s virtually impossible to see how McCain wins the White House without Indiana’s 11 electoral votes. At the same time, any hopes the Republicans had of swiping Minnesota or Wisconsin from the Democratic column this year appear to be just about gone.”

Because the poll of poll findings are based on an average of polls conducted in Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, there is no sampling error.

If he could STEAL the election, he would certainly try. I worry about Florida because his buddy has his finger on the trigger ... like Katharine Harris did in 2000. I don't put any thing past hese clowns. I pray they don't steal this one the way Bush did in 2000.

    to Stone Harry.....

The spelling is "Barack" – best get used to it. And I'd suggest you do some reading outside of Fox, "smear snippet", news to understand the new direction and why you should be supporting it.

This is what McCain should do to get elected:

He should promise to American People that in future McCain Administration, there should be some place for "Joe the Plumber" and "Tito the Builder" as cabinet secretaries... Because Sarah Palin is not thinking about helping McCain...

    Idiots......

I SEE that the far-right-fear-hate-lies-and-division mongers are out bright and early.

WHY do you people distort the truth or LIE SO much????????????

Sen. Obama IS NOT going to take away anyone's wealth!

@ Southerner: THANKS! You are RIGHT! John MCCAIN gave the "so-called-PLO-guy" ..............$250,000................ again, $250,0000!!! From the REPUBLICAN INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE.

Now, as is usual for McCain he is accusing Sen. Obama of "palling around with terrorists!" Another LIE.......more propaganda!

The Republicans do not "get" that their VILE campaign is being rejected by America. We are not stupid.

    HOPE TRUMPS FEAR & LIES!

He should be trailing in all states. He has treated we, the American people, as if we're all as ignorant as his VP pick (the same person McCain handlers said didn't have a grasp on National or Foreign Policy). This man is a disgrace, and actually dangerous for America at this precarious time.

what a shame that John McCain and Sarah Palin will stop at nothing to show how “plastic” and “unrealistic” and “inconsiderate” they and their economic policies and every other policy issue on their political manifesto have been. They shamelessly parade and are still parading “alias Joe the Plumber” as the corner stone of their economic policies. Now we have found out that Joe the Plumber is a fake plumber and owes the state some huge amount in taxation as a result of Bush’s economic policies which of course John McCain and Palin are advocating.
