Sen. Barack Obama in an interview Friday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama told CNN Friday that turning around the economy and energy independence are his top priorities for 2009 if elected president.

In an interview with Wolf Blitzer in Des Moines, Iowa, Obama was asked to name his top priority from a list of issues, including taxes, health care, education, energy policy and immigration.

"[The] top priority may not be any of those five. It may be continuing to stabilize the financial system. We don't know yet what's gonna happen in January," he said. "None of this can be accomplished if we continue to see a potential meltdown in the banking system and financial system. So that's priority number one - making sure the plumbing works."

Obama said priority number 2 is energy independence:

"We have to seize this moment because it's not just an energy independence issue, it's also a national security issue and it's a jobs issue. We can create five million new green energy jobs ..."

You can watch the full interview on ‘The Situation Room’ at 6 p.m. ET.

Priority number 3: Healthcare reform.

Priority number 4: "Making sure we have tax cuts for the middle class as part of a broader tax reform effort."

Obama later expanded his discussion on how tax cuts relate to a bigger economic plan.

"The tax cut that I talked about may be part of my priority number one because I think that’s going to be part of stabilizing the economy as a whole," he said.

"I think we’re going to need a second stimulus. Part of my commitment is to make sure that the stimulus includes a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans. It may be the first bill I introduce."

Priority number 5: Reforming the education system.

"a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans"

1% of working Americans pays 40% of income tax. If this 1% of Americans moves to other countries, 99% of working American will be in the poorhouse. So...... keep dreaming about spreading the wealth.

I can guarantee, Bill Gates will be moving somewhere else and $200 million or more that he donates every year, will be gone too.

Democrats had majority in Congress for last 2-4 years. Did they cancel CAFTA???????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The jobs will continue being exported, unless labor unions will agree to pay cut.

Lawyer lies every time his mouth is moving – remember that joke????

John McCain thinks that being a fighter and a survivor means that he has been properly "tested" to be President. He doesn't appear to understand what the qualities are that make a good leader, other than military experience and pugnaciousness.

Bubba   October 31st, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Like it or not, Obama has framed the discourse very expertly. He acts, then McCain Palin reacts. Obama says "Change," McCain speaks against change. Obama brings up taxes, and then McCain talks about taxes. He is the front-runner because he's got the ideas.
People, do you really care about this country? Our strength is our freedom; we've always said "all Americans are free and equal" while quietly putting down the black man. Now we have a black man too Christian to hate us back, and willing to add his fuel to the fire that burns inside us all, to be an example to his own people. We have a duty to shine out to the world, to be the city on the hill that every man wishes to travel to, and to teach others how we did it.

Dick in Sioux Falls   October 31st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Mike, it is a given that a President's primary task is to keep us safe. Why didn't you call Bush to account for doing and saying nothing when he was warned about an impending attack prior to 9/11? And the excursion into Iraq has not made us safer, quite the contrary.

Diane Panama City Fl   October 31st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

So many typical illiterate Republicans. That's what you get for cutting funding for special education.

So, let's connect the dots for them since so many that post here lack critical thinking skills. Ok, here goes: Priority #2 about energy independence, according to Senator Obama, IS tied to National Security. You can't be safe as long as we are importing oil from the Mideast that provides petro-dollars to Ismalic Terrorists who are controlled and influenced by Osama Bin Laden. Alright, now all you dim-witted little Republicans out there, raise your hand if I need to connect the dots for you again.

B   October 31st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Mike, wake up. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightening than of getting killed by terrorists. If anything, that wind turbine in your yard would help keep you from sending as much of your money to gulf states where terrorists are bred. It would also keep guys like Dick Cheney from having to send the US military to war in order to secure the oil.

Kina, A Veteran in NYC   October 31st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

that's it...there's no challenger, ppl...Sen. Obama just put the nail in Sen. McCain's coffin...just compare his demeanor to Sen. McCain's when he gave that interview to Larry King...It's game over...

You will get your Messiah, sure enough. But the ones his presidency will hurt most are not the Republicans, but in fact the poor that he claims his policies would help. This will become more evident four years from now.

For even the best of men...are men at best. Obama is not the answer to your life woes and a solution to most of your problems but that is something you will have to discover for yourself.

But I have heard of a real Messiah who came 2000 years ago and was crucified and rose from the dead and is coming again...

Priorities seems good: Economy, Energy, Healthcare and education. These are based on new policy proposals. All are important for our national security.

Cadmus   October 31st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Those priorities are commendable, but I have to think President Obama's priorities #2 and #3 may be forced lower down by pressing events in Iraq...like Bush's the failure to reach an accord about troop levels in Iraq...and the men languishing in Guantanamo...and a miserable winter fighting the Taliban. I think an "energy independence" initiative won't be ready until the Summer of '09. Healthcare reform will be even later...2010.

Mike.......Irag is Mccains unfinished Vietnam Quest. It is his whole frame of reference. It is how he has lived his life. We would never be safe with McCain. It would be one skirmish after another. At least Obama is looking beyond the war in Irag and to the economical one we our waging in America. Haven't you heard....It's the economy studpid.

If the economy is #1? And if the Government truly wants to restore confidence in the Banking system and Wall Street, lets hope we start seeing some big insiders getting charged and arrested for causing this crisis from their crimes.
8 trillion dollars stolen from this economy and NO ONE HAS BEEN CHARGED ? We know this was a criminal act, let see some justice served.

Please, everyone, VOTE and use your brain and your common sense – do not vote on propaganda and smears. Vote what is best for this country.

Mike, I think you know that security and energy independence are related. Further, there is no doubt that public safety would trump subsidizing your mini wind farm.

I 'm so glad Obama didn't say fight, fight, fight like that old fool call McCain. As anyone with any kind of brain would know without income or revenue there are really no growth. So, if there is no growth then there is only? I think most people in America are ready to start growing once again, and stop all of the non-sense fighting.

Plan?   October 31st, 2008 4:47 pm ET

A man with a plan? Seriously??

Did Bill Clinton not say 2 days ago that Obama didn't have a clue how to handle the economic situation and ran to his advisors along with Clinton's advisors for help.

Give me something that I can sell to the American people, they are dumb enough to believe anything I say. At least he's got one thing right, the people willing to vote for him are dumb enough to be sold anything!

Jack   October 31st, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Dear Mike

If our government stopped meddling where it doesn't belong and concentrated on making our borders safer and our economy stronger you would be safe. But ignorant people like you believe our government does nothing wrong and does everything right for the sake of spreading democracy to place they may not be ready for it yet. Grow up, grow a set and find some intelligence.

Terry   October 31st, 2008 4:46 pm ET

When has McCain really been tested? Not to knock what the man has gone through, but being locked up in Vietnam and tortured doesn't mystically make a person a superior leader.

That same silly logic could apply to him being a superior toilet cleaner because of his ability to clutch the brush.

McCain is living in his deluded cold war world. I had a great deal of respect for the man, his dirty politics show no shame.

Shalom   October 31st, 2008 4:46 pm ET

the world will be much safer and at peace after the election; a psychological mind set change for this time.

Dick in Sioux Falls   October 31st, 2008 4:45 pm ET

The comment about keeping us safe as the first priority. That is a given. Our security has been endangered by the stupid Bush policies, and not responding to the warning of am impending Al Quida attack prior to 9/11, and I have complete confidence in the wisdom, judgment, and decency of Barack Obama.
I used to admire John McCain, but have lost so much respect for him. He has used his 5+ years of imprisonment to gain a Senate seat, and uses it at every opportunity as though that qualifies him to be President. Nonsense! As the youngest of 5 brothers who served in WWII, any one of my brothers were better qualified to be President than he is. They went through the horror of hand-to-hand combat both in the Battle of the Bulge and Okinawa; an experience totally foreign to John McCain. Certainly I honor his service in Vietnam, but his prison camp experience does not automatically qualify him to be President. He has neither the maturity (despite his long years), nor the judgment to be Commander in Chief. We don't need another President who is in the pocket of the Military Industrial Complex which Eisenhower warned us about 50 years ago.
I pray the incipient racism resident in all white Americans to some extent does not prevent us from enjoying the exciting leadership of this remarkable young man. I'm a white 82 year old who is hopeful that I am one among millions of senior citizens who appreciate the message of hope and unison Barack Obama reperesents.
There may be something in this statement that repeats something I have said elsewhere, but never in this context.

National Security is lumped in with Energy Independence. Also, should it be a priority on its own? Should we build a missle shield around Europe or should we get jobs going again? Hmm....

This is where Republicans fall way short. McCain has given nothing. Where's his priorities? I'll tell you: 1) Attack Barrack; 2) Keep Sarah away from the media; 3) Give myself and my rich friends tax cuts; 4) Continue to propogate our tax cut as a way to stimulate the economy and create jobs; 5) Keep americans scared and dumb so they never question us.

What kind of America do you want to live in?

John Q. Cynic   October 31st, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Obama's first details are going to mend the damage Bush, and his pet monkey aka Cheney has, and continues to do with our nation against middle eastern countries (Pakistan for one) who we need help from, when it comes to terrorists working in that region. Give the election to Boris, and Natasha, and we might wake up one morning to news that a nation has attacked the US. Not a group of angry idiots who take sand showers and shave with box cutters, but a nation with a billion man army and nukes. Aim at Texas first...please. Sorry Texans...but Bush is your pet, the rest of us are tired of your pet missing the litter box.

bababear   October 31st, 2008 4:42 pm ET

The hole that has been dug for the American people during this administration is so deep and wide that it will takes years – maybe generations to dig back out. There is no quick fix. At least I believe that Obama has given thought to, has a plan for and the guts to carry forward. The sad part is thata what ever happens, the next few years are going to be hell and Obama, should he be elected, will be blamed for the hard payback. The voting public retains their water longer than their memory and common sense. Hopefully, too, with a filibuster proof voting block in the congress, perhaps the Repubs willhave to quit playing obstructionist and blaming the Dems for not doing anything. We can but hope and pray that even this is not too late to save something of the American dream for our children and grandchildren.

National Security may not have been mentioned as a priority because it will still be funded and the two wars will still be ongoing. It's not like a new President gets a clean slate or a new chess board in foreign policy local issues when he takes over. A new President takes the place of the previous chess player with the moves he has done up to this point. THINK PEOPLE!!! THINK!!!

The economy is the biggest priority for the US and the rest of the World. What happens if the economy goes down the crapper and the two unfinished wars can no longer be funded? What happens if no money is available for Homeland Security? The economy and defense are intertwined. THINK PEOPLE!!! THINK!!!

Vote early and demand that others do as well.

Barack has kicked out 3 reportes who have been following him from day one for some hacks from Essence and Ebony magazine. Wow he isn't even president and already has completely suppressed the first amendment to the constitution. This clears this out of the way and he can start on the second amendment asap.

Pathetic Barack. If it's not about race and free speech supression then why did he replace legitimate news reporters who have been following him from day one with some dilitants who occasionally show up from Essence and Ebony magazine. Welcome to the preview of the scary show he intends for us all.

CitizenAJ   October 31st, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Notice how Senator Obama applies real time analysis to the problems. It would have been easy to say, the economy is the number one focus and then national security but he focus on something that can affect how well those two issues are taken care of, the financial institutions that play a major role in the economy. No strong economy and you have no money to strengthen your security. One way to strengthen the economy is to tackle energy independence, breaking away from the middle eastern countries that do not like the U.S. and creating alternative energy jobs in the U.S. economy. He understands well how they are all linked. Better than most right now. Vote people, vote Obama/Biden on Tuesday. Put America first!

So is he turning a blind eye to the 2 wars we are in? What about the very real possibility of a 3rd if Israel goes into war with Iran?

Lets not forget we are in War right now. Our economy won't boom until we finish this war. Pulling out is not an option, unless you favor Al Qaeda gaining ground and there potentially being another attack on US soil.

...or people can continue wearing their "Obama blinders" and refuse to acknowledge the big picture of reality....

How could we have gotten so lucky? To receive a man that excels in organization. Just look at what he has done with this campaign. Those skills will be the most vital, when sifting through the mess the GOP has put this country in.

FIFTY YEAR OLD REPUBLICAN VOTING FOR OBAMA/BIDEN

Sally from Cali   October 31st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Obama's bright enough to say that we don't know what will happen in January so all priorities could change. If there is a national security issue that would definitely change his priorities.

McCain's comment about being tested already...when was he president? He's never been tested. He's never had to make an executive decision like a president. His story about the Cuban Missile crisis was 25 years ago before Vietnam even. He is so outdated and out of touch. He should retire after this. Look a the way he ran his campaign. He won a few battles, but lost a lot and will ultimately lose the war on Tuesday.

Ray   October 31st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

His top priority should be winning the election first and not displaying an ego. Obama has already planned Obamapalooza before this article. If Obama loses the election he will have to explain a few things?

Obama/Biden08inJesus'Name   October 31st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

To Mike:

He specifically said energy independence is linked to national security. If we developed other sources of energy, we would not need to drill here OR send money to terrorist havens to get oil. Also, if our economy is in the toilet, how will we find the resources to keep America safe?

Paul   October 31st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

The economywill not matter because we are going to "spread the wealth" and everyone will have everything needed. There is no need to worry about the energy because we will tax all those big companies and give everyone enough money to meet all our needs.
That is Obamas promise and he can not lie.
Right?

Michael in MO   October 31st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

His first priority will be to figure out how he lost the election.

Mike,
Do you remember those television ads for RIF - Reading Is Fundamental? Your response is a good example of why. He was asked to rank issues from a list of issues and National Security was not on that list of issues. Therefore, if had provided that answer, he would not have been answering the question, but rather using the forum to pander and try to sway the conversation. Kinda like Sarah Palin always wants to talk about energy and Alaska. Luckily, Barack Obama can intelligently speak to a host of issues. You betcha!

I think that you have your priorities in order; however we still have 3 days to go until the election. John McCain has not yet said anything of value to the people of America and I don't think that he will. But we can not under estimate him or "Girl Gone Wild" for that matter; therefore we must continue the momentum of making sure that everyone gets out to vote.

I have already requesting my tickets to your inauguration and I know that you will be the next President of the United States.

Go Obama!!!!!!!!

TAJC   October 31st, 2008 4:35 pm ET

It's so refreshing to see that Barack Obama is looking past the election and into the future as president. This clearly indicates his strength and love for his country and doing what is best for all citizens.

I'm very confident that Obama/Biden will win this election, but if the unthinkable happens it's good to know both will continue there work as senators....but we won't have to worry about because they are Presiden Obama and Vice President Biden

I'm an American who's living in Canada. I mailed my absentee ballot in the beginning of October and I have to say this was the first time in my voting history that a candidate has moved me and has me excited for our country's future.

To Mike:

No one can keep us "safe". The person who gives up their privacy for security....deserves neither. I think this was said a couple of hundred years ago by Ben Franklin. Please excuse me if the quote is not exact. The current administration has used this scare tactic on us since the beginning of the war. Remember when the war started and anyone who disagreed was unpatriotic. We pride ourselves on our Constitution but only want those rights for those who agree with us. To defend with your life the rights of a person who professes things you would give your life for. That is the American way. Barack Obama will help us get that cake back. The rest of it is just the frosting.

It won't be easy and it will take time, plus he has to deal with whatever goes on day to day. He will need aupport and encouragement from the American people; people who will be willing to put the good of the country ahead of their personal preferences from time to time.
He said he would "change the world". It sounds lofty, but it is true. I look forward to the days when, like the old days, the US was the world leader in promoting the progression of civilization. America includes some of the worst and some of the best examples of what humans can do.

"Why would his first priority not be keeping us safe? Does it matter if I have a windmill in my yard to give me electricity if I'm dead?" – Mike

What are you afraid of Mike?

I think it's a shame that there's so much fear in our country. So far, fear has given us a really bad war and the Patriot Act (which throws habeus corpus out the window).

Of course, I personally think it's our economic situation that's REALLY scary. Joblessness, inflation, people losing their homes, a broken financial system... these things breed desperation, which in turn breeds crime and violence.

So if Mr. Obama can get the finances under control, we will be safer.

Chae   October 31st, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Mike,
Getting our economy back on track and energy independence are things that are going to keep us safe. Part of keeping us safe is making sure that our infastructure is strong so that we can afford all the fancy war toys that keep us "safe." Also, what would you suggest he do to make us safer you know besides restoring our relationships and image with other nations? That is one thing that is going to make us much safer and McCain can't possibly accomplish that.

Malai   October 31st, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Mike...First, read the article...the list he was given to choose from does not include security or safety. Second, the best this we can do to keep us safe is to keep us strong financially and through energy independence and education. Maybe you are used to living in a world of fear as that is what kept the current administration in office. I prefer hope over fear.

Mike- he obviously wants to keep us safe, and part of that is not funneling money into countries that support terrorists just because we are dependent on their oil.

Solving the energy crisis will help our economy and our security, and almost as a side effect will help the environment. It is a win-win situation all around.

Compare this statement to what the Repubs are saying. One of McKlan's top campaign advisers was asked to respond to the fact that only 20% of the electorate knows what McCain stands FOR. He was asked, in light of that, what does McCain stand FOR. His answer? We're going to point out that Barack Obama is weak on experience, and that he can't defend the country, or words to that effect. Go Obama!

Georgia Peach   October 31st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

To Mike,
You don't get it! Do you? Economic stability and energy independence ARE OUR TICKETS to being SAFE! How can we be safe if we are weak at home...if our ecomony is in shambles AND if we continue to suck oil from foreign countries.

How safe will we be with an irrational, fearful war monger (who by the way has had a deadly form of cancer and is 72 years old) as President and a potential Vice President who lacks any intellectual curiosity about the world beyond the Alaskan border and who thinks even parts of our own country are nanti-American than others.

Andrew   October 31st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

lol Mike, I'm sure he's going to get the ENTIRE military and police forces to help build solar panels, because those are his only two priorities. Energy and Economy. Security is expendable. So is education, apparently...

No, his first priority should be to tell people that they still have to breathe. Next, the stuff that falls out of the sky every once in awhile, yeah, you have to drink it occasionally, and its called 'water'.

It took eight years of bushononics, war and utter disregard for America to create a man like Barack Obama. Steady, thoughtful, determined, and most of all an honest longing to serve the people. America better seize on it for an opportunity like this will not come for decades. Just look around Washington and you will not find a single person Republican or Democrat or any with the same characteristics as Obama. Colin Powell could have been that but I can never forget the that speech he gave in the UN supporting the Bush administration's campaign to go to war. Such a situation I am sure will never happen in an Obama admin. Like his selection of the VP, or questioning of Paulsen, he does his homework very well much to the envy of his politicians who have much more experience. The difference is that Obama wants to do it right as compared to doing it for any other reason.

Mike in AZ (Independent)   October 31st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

For those rather paranoid ultra-conservatives that are so afraid of Obama and fear for our national security, let me explain something to you. Al-Quaeda's attack on 9/11 was economic, i.e. destroy the WTC – the economic center of the country and then attack the HQ of government. What he has done has been successful beyond his dreams – look where we are now. We jumped into two wars, one illegally and based on false info that was "leaked", and we are now in a huge economic mess. Osama bin Laden would love to see McCain elected because he knows that any new attack would result in the Cowboy 'shoot first, ask questions later' that would further destroy us both economically and global respect. We need someone who is deliberate, thoughtful, intelligent and who LISTENS to everyone. The most important quality of any leader is to listen. My trust is in Obama.

You don't get it. You and people like you have it all backwards–like primitive cave dwellers afraid of wild animals and spooks in the night. To be safe, to be truly safe in the long run, we must be strong. We must have prestige and respect in the world from other countries. The less strong we are economically and morally the greater the chance for a true disaster. Obama understands this so his priorities are to make the country and its people strong.

Bush did not keep us safe. 9/11 happened on his watch. Katrina happened on his watch (and showed how ill prepared we were for a terrorist attack or any disaster.) These things would not have happened under Gore because Gore would not have ignored the PDB and he would not have hired incompetent cronies to run FEMA–because Gore, like Obama but unlike NEO-CONS, RESPECTs the US government and its role in our lives. Obama won't ignore a PDB either that warns of an attack. But he's not gonna put everything on hold that is good for our country because he is scared to death, as are most people who vote Repug. We can't stop putting our country first just because we are scared.

This is why I and so many other American people love this guy. these are straight for plans that he have in mind to help the average joe. Sen Mccain is not really putting his plans out there like this, or he has no intention of change anything major to what's already in place. As President you have to be able to think on your feet, and be willing to change course if necessary. Sticking to your guns is not always the best way to solve your individual problem and certainly not a national problem.

Why would his first priority not be keeping us safe? Does it matter if I have a windmill in my yard to give me electricity if I'm dead?

Are you serious? How many people do you know living in a house that were killed by someone OTHER THAN OUR OWN? I mean, where the hell have you been? That same ole Republican tactic is SO OLD AND OUTDATED?

If you're concerned about your safety – that's a legitimate issue, but start talking about police and crime if that's what you want to say – and by the way – crime isn't so bad in this country.

So what are you really trying to say Mike? Because most of us are tired of people trying to scare us. It just isn't working this election. Go ahead and vote McCain – but shut up about the fear tactics!

LT   October 31st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Not only does what Barack Obama say make sense, he always seems to be able to lay it out in a logical, comprehensible way. He exudes confidence in the American people and inspires us to walk forward...through the doubts, through the fears...to the clarity that will come at the end. Not only does America need this man as its president, but the world needs this type of leadership.

Why would his first priority not be keeping us safe? Does it matter if I have a windmill in my yard to give me electricity if I'm dead?

Mike:

More right wing idiot babbling. How in the world can a country maintain the military and security tools necessary to keep a country safe when its economy is failing. Unless you want to contnue sending our young kids to Iraq with no body armour or even weapons to protect themselves with. But you people did it once when this war started. I suppose you are willing to send troops over to Iraq again without the proper equipment.

Obama knows that nothing is safe including natuional security unless our economy can improve. Soooo..........Mike, idiot, one must improve the economy before one can maintain the tools needed to ensure our security. Now do you get it nit-wit?

voter   October 31st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

all of these ideas are needed to move the economy.

Mike,

The windmill and other forms of alternative energy, will free us from the dependence of oil from foreign countries that are connected with terrorist. this keeps us safe. it is not an either or proposition. national security is connected to domestic issues such as the economy.

Jackie, MI   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Mike; I think you're alittle parnoid. 9/11 happened on the republican watch and bin laden is still at large eight years later. What has the republicans done to keep us safe? A war on two fronts that has streched our military to the breaking point and costing us billions of dollars that could have gone to getting bin laden and energy independence, plus deregulated everything. Having energy independence and getting out of Iraq (that the country has a working goverment, and that the people of Iraq want) will fund the energy research and development. Get out of the fear game, it isn't working anymore.

TheTruthHurts   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

He didn't mention national security because it wasn't on the list. READ - PEOPLE

Haas   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Mike,

To answer your question, energy independence is going to make all of us safer because the getting away from foreign oil means we will stop being dependent on Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Nigeria. Remember, these countries do not like us. Also, understand that victory in Iraq does not mean we're going to be safe from terrorist attacks. We need a wider scope when looking at national security...Obama understands that view.

Brittany   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

To Mike:

Don't worry about even having a back yard if the financial crisis continues at its current rate. And energy independence is a large component in keeping us safe. Isn't that why our conservative friends across the aisle chant "Drill, Baby Drill" because they feel it will free us from our dependence on foreign oil? I think so. Too bad drilling doesn't solve all our problems.

Joe Democrat   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

carol   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

If Sen Obama is elected President and my fervent hope is that he will, he has got one hell of a mess to deal with.....so I hope we will all be patient and give him a chance to sort this country out.
Nothing is going to be fixed over night and I'm sure there will be some things that may take a little longer than others to fix or enforce right
away.
I think though, most of us are prepared to let this fine young man take charge of this country and know he will do what is best for all of us....we have had 8 long years of a nightmare that doesn't seem to end, so I'm sure we can wait a while longer to make sure we give Sen Obama the time he needs.
McCain is not fit to run this country he has proved that over and over these past few weeks....erratic...no economy knowledge...lack of judgement in choosing Palin...rabble rousing in his campaign and now we have to contend with having a singing cowboy and a guy whose not even a plumber.....who, by the way is now an authority on policy!!! being dragged around with them!!!
When will all this nonsense stop.....if they think it's smart and funny, they are both wrong, it is an insult on the American people's intelligence.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Lucy   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I just love a man with a plan. Look at how he ran his compaign. Even the Republicans are in absolute awe in how he has run his campaign. Look at how McCain ran his campaign...like a trainwreck. Just like the Republicans blew up our economy with deregulation and unregulated credit default swaps that allow the subprime mortgages to enter the stock market to become ticking bombs through out our stock market.

I never believe what politicians say....but if Obama even runs this country half as well as he has his campaign, then I don't think we will end up in a depression. Good god, if Congress won't give him money for one of these projects, Obama just needs to tell the voters where to send the money for the project, and I will sent him what I can afford. We will probably make it easier that collecting taxes.

PS from Tennessee   October 31st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Mike,

You must be so gullible to belief that we are fighting them over there to keep from fighting them over here. On 9/11, there was NOBODY from Iraq. Barack Obama's diplomacy and intelligence will keep us safe and out of stupid wars that bankrupt our Country. You can thank that pinhead, W, for the economic mess we are in now with his "Bush Doctrine".

I am very proud of Barack Obama.

That's why Obama has the lead, because he knows where the target is. Period. No dramas, no gimmicks, no erratic behavior and no hiding from the press because you cannot put two sentences together in a coherent way.

McCain's only target is to throw mud at Obama to see if anything sticks. No plan, no ideas. If we make the mistake of being that dumb and elect McCain, we would be the laughing stock of the world.

Now, if you don't go out and vote. It will not matter, so get out of the couch, and VOTE, of course, vote for Obama :)

Eveyone has been so up in arms during this campaign about people playing the race card when Obama is the worst one of the all!! I am so tired of the biased media and Barack Hussein Obama, II himself using the "first black as president" card to gain support of certain special interest groups and the black community in general. He is less "Black" than I am "Native American Indian". He doesn't even have enough black ancestry to qualify BY US LAW, to be considered as "Black". If the media would report the truth instead of their biased views, things would be cast in a different light. Check is lineage, he is less than 8% of "African" heritage, he is more "White" than anything else (41.5% to be exact). To be "Black" or "African American" you have to be 1/8th or that race of which Obama is not. He IS however, 14.5 Arabic which WOULD make him our first Arab-American President which would be even MORE momentous, don't you think???? Maybe CNN should just go back to reporting the news instead of trying to create or influence it. CNN is the perfect example of where the saying "Nothing but a media circus" got started.

Yeah, thats not a comment from a McCain/Palin stooge. To most rational people right now, the reality of financial trouble and high fuel prices effecting them daily trumps Terrorist boogymen hitting you in middle-of-nowhere U.S.A. taking down your energy windmill.

Obama does have his priorities straight. This is who we need in charge.

It's nice to hear someone talking business instead of BULL-loney. The repeated attacks by McCain and the Dame prove that there is no plan, there is no substance to their campaign. It sounds as though Sen. Obama is all about getting things addressed. We've had 8 years of "duck and blame", we certainly don't need that same irresponsible, cloke and dagger, blowing your nose in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, cowboy crud. Hey, Mike – Energy independence and the economy are both keys to our security. With more and more countries losing respect for us, and growing in their disdain for us, do we really want to be beholden to them for our energy and continuous loans??? Barack sees the bigger picture. Being a leader is about more than calling yourself a maverick.

Independent   October 31st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Mike read or listen to the clip of the interview...first thing is the financial crisis which has a national security component to it ...and actually so do the energy independence answer. Aaaah (sighs) u know what forget it. Obama kills babies. There let's get on with our lives. Happy halloween.

Okay by me. Seriously, this sounds like a real plan. Hey, man, if this is socialism, I'm cool with it. I, like most Americans, can't really explain what socialism or even communism really IS. That said, it's kind of silly to get scared by words I don't understand, especially when they're being hurled by rabble-rousers.

Mike, did you not read Obama saying:
"We have to seize this moment because it's not just an energy independence issue, it's also a NATIONAL SECURITY issue and it's a jobs issue. We can create five million new green energy jobs …"

Obama knows that the greatest current NATIONAL SECURITY threat to the U.S. is the ECONOMY/ENERGY INDEPENDENCE situation and that they are related.

If this is too 'nuanced' for you to understand, then at least i tried!

Barack Obama is a thoughtful, careful, smart, engaging man, who really seems to want to bring the country together.

As much as McCain talks about crossing party lines, his and his running mates rhetoric is destructive to any kind of country unity. I have yet to hear them talk about bringing this country together, nor have I heard anything like that from their surrogates.

Oh Mike, keep the faith. You're going to be alive, but be careful....you may not have the energy. If I were you, I'd be delighted with Obama's priorities. Don't worry, he'll take care of National Security. You're going to see how he's going to take care of us. Don't be a pessimist. That's what McCain/Palin wants you to believe. I haven't heard priorities from him. He's an emotional man who isn't getting his way and he's running on fear. So he has to say only bad things about Obama. That's not what this nation is about. We're a strong nation, we just got sidetracked (in a major way) with the Bush Administration. Give Obama the opportunity to get us back where we need to be. It's all going to be okay!!!!

Sounds like McCain and Obama will continue bailouts (carmakers, airlines, who next?). McBama will raise taxes, see the National Taxpayer Union website.

Those are good priorities. Energy independence is a nice sounding phrase, but does it mean more subsidies to the failed ethanol experiment? or does it mean more Nuclear–something democrats have fought for a long time, or does that mean drilling? what does it really mean? Probably more government spending, subsidies and larger programs that will cost us our tax money.

People say, who cares? I'll pay higher taxes for energy independence. Well then, go out and pay for it right now. buy that expensive solar panel. Oh, you say it's not affordable until you get a tax break, and then they raise your taxes to pay for the break...that's what government does. They are hiding and obfuscating.

Rhonda   October 31st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Mike?? Are you scared?? Didn't you read where he said "not just an energy independence issue, it's also a national security issue"? Maybe you should listen to him on CNN since you apparently can't read!

Finally – polices that focus on something other than making very rich people ever wealthier! I am looking forward to the end of this corrupt, narcissistic era of government.

Proud to Be an American   October 31st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Mike...BOO! I hoped I just scared you to death. If not suck it up grow a pair and be man. Does it matter if you are a live and there is nothing safe to eat, drink and the air is too polluted to breathe? What do you want to live for, just for the sake of living? Do you have any goals, dreams or ambitions beyond that. Because I do and millions of Americans do too. You beg for scraps when you are offered the kingdom. You have swalloed to much Republican fear poison so you are ready to settle for just being alive. Why don't you trade places with the animals in a zoo. I am sure your basic needs would be attended to and you will be protected but in the end you won't be worth anything more then a spectcle.

Nick in AZ   October 31st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

It's nice to know he has common sense. It's dangerous politically to state goals for '09 4 days before an election because McCain and his goons will attack them no matter what. But, at least we know Barack has the balls to say what he believes. That's a welcome CHANGE!

Obama's top priority is to get elected. He demonstrated that when he abandoned his church after 20+ years.

Joyce E Neal, Antioch, TN   October 31st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

It is good to see that he has a clear plan of direction. The United States is safe and we won't see another attack such as 9/11 in our lifetime. If safety is a concern for some, it isn't from "outsiders", it would be from the American radicals that are free to walk the streets of America daily. I am looking forward the to the next four years under the leadership of Barack Obama.

Lee-- Dallas, TX   October 31st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Great answers... Well thought out and doesn't sound rushed. As Bill Clinton said, our nation needs a leader that is able to understand complex issues and Barack Obama is brilliant guy and he picked a Vice President in Joe Biden that will be able to handle and execute the plans laid out by Barack and his team on foreign issues, while he is focused on fixing the messes here at home. [Have you all taken a look or heard about the potential list of people Barack would include in his Administration; some pretty strong people I’d say.]

Great team…

I own a 2 family house and my other 3 grandchild live here too with there mom and they are all on the spectrum of autism. I believe in the proverb "it takes a village to raise a child" and you have inspired this village of Americans to come together and believe not just in you but in ourselves. The world is about to change for the better. I hope Obama can hold his course and not be mired down in the politics of the past. There are a lot folks pretty deeply invested in the politics of the old. This fight will continue well beyond Tuesday. Everyone needs to stay focused and engaged for the next few years so that the new politics can take hold. Think of it as giving birth to your first child. Great job, President-soon-to-be-elect Obama.

David   October 31st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

This is a good start Mr. President.

You at least are telling us why we should vote for you whereas McCain is telling us not to vote for you but gives us no good reason to vote for him except in implying that the presidency is owed to him because of his family line and the suffering he endured in Vietnam.

Mr. President, you give me a reason to be hopeful, you give me a reason to knock at my neighbors door to ensure that they are doing okay, you inspire me to pick someone up when they are down, you instill in me the desire to put my country first and work with you to rebuild the American Dream, you are a leader that I will look up to because you will lead by example. You will not ask us to do anything that you are not willing to do yourself.

I will look beyond the hatred, greed, and anger of the Republican team and look out for my fellow countrymen and vote for you.

Jesus, led by example and asks us to be more like him, who do you think is putting Jesus' words into action? Obama or McCain, Biden or Palin?

I'm voting for Obama/Biden!

Obama Fan   October 31st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Where does bringing the troops home fit in on this list?

C A   October 31st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Obama knows what he is doing. He understands as should the American people that the first priority is to get this country back on its feet economically and to remove our dependence on foreign oil. This coupled with getting our troops out of Iraq and investing in the creation of alternate energy sources that will create new jobs has to take center stage.

Anyone who tells you that Obama is going back on some other proposals are lying or fail to understand that current events and conditions will have an impact on other programs that any candidate wishes to implement. At least Obama is being honest. Last time McCain was asked the same question (in a debate) McCain stated that he didn't have to prioritze. That he could do everything at once. We know better. Health care, improved education and educational opportunites for our children, and reinvesting in our infrastructure will follow under an Obama administration. Improved respect for the U.S. across the globe will immediately follow Obama's election.

yellowbmblbee, Boston   October 31st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

The more I see him interact, the more I am respecting him and feeling confident he has the Americans' best interests at heart. That's the key. His whole life has been that – for the people – it's not been about him.

Can't say that about many politicians. I just hope people don't turn on him and are realistic that he will need a good amount of time and patience from Americans before we see the fruits of his/our labor.

I can't wait for Tuesday. Wish my state had early voting.

John Criss   October 31st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

I think if Obama gets elected his first priorities will be his gun control issues. Obama has the worst record on gun issue in the Congress.
He wants to ban all semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and all hand guns. He will not let the privite citizan protect themselves. God help us all if he is elected. And PS, his Vice President is anti gun also.

Chris the Unemployed from CT   October 31st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

This is the difference between the two campaigns, and I believe, the major rift in America. One side (in this case Obama) is telling us why we SHOULD vote for him. The other side (in this case McCain) tells us why we SHOULDN'T vote for the other guy.
Look at Elizabeth Dole with the "Godless American's" ad. Look folks, here's the way it SHOULD be. Unfortunately Kay Hagan didn't mention that "Godless Americans" have the same rights and privileges as any other American (I personally am a Catholic American). Just like the "arab" and "muslim" attacks against Obama. Arab and Muslim Americans have the SAME rights as any other American. We're all Americans, treat us accordingly.
So instead of telling us why we shouldn't vote for the other guy, tell us, why should we vote for you? Thank you Sen. Obama for doing that over all this time, and making all Americans feel welcome.

I look forward to seeing what Barack Obama can achieve as President. I only hope that he is wise enough not to fall into the ethical trap the Republican's did 8 years ago when they gained both houses of congress and the presidency. If the democrats go on the same type of wild spending bender that the republicans did when the balance was removed, we will be no better off. Govern wisely Senator Obama and don't be afraid to veto your own party's spending bills when they don't make fiscal sense.

Hillary supporter now for McCain/Palin   October 31st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

I'm voting Democrat because . . .

I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

Because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

because when we pull out of Iraq, I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people

because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving less.

because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters. Go BO!

The OTher Campaign Strategists @ 115th & Amsterdam Ave   October 31st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Senator Obama –

The Democrats will control Congress and the White House after this election. Americans are demanding that “GRIDLOCK” end in Washington. If the Congress does not achieve meaningful MAINSTREAM accomplishments the Democrats will be thrown out in 2010 and you will have a difficult presidency.

You can start a new Progressive movement in American politics that will have a lasting and positive impact on the country if you govern from the middle.

Priority 1) Reduce Spending immediately … reduce the deficit … make progress towards balancing the budget over the next 4 years. End the Iraq & Afghanistan wars as part of this effort.

Priority 2) Start a NASA like project to covert energy from the sun (wind, solar) into storable energy … manufactured synthetic liquids… hydrogen sulfates … batteries … etc. Use this to replace ALL oil … not just FOREIGN OIL. When America doesn’t have to go to war over OIL, our foreign policy will be stronger.

Priority 3) Improve the number of math & science graduates in the United states. Show measurable improvement in public school education. This will protect the jobs of today’s 8th graders in Scranton, Youngstown, Morgantown, Evansville, etc. This will help restore American Industry to greatness. True it won’t do much for your political fortunes but when your 2012-to2016 FEMALE VP runs for president 8 years from now, she will benefit.

Priority 4.) Curb excessive salaries and bonuses in Financial Markets through transparency. Prosecute exploitive executives to create a climate of teamwork in America. Usher in an era where Greed IS NOT Good. Create rewards for those that build strong foundations.

Schnorkies   October 31st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

I sure hope all these promises are not another pie in the sky. If they are, Obama will be judged accordingly and many will use his race to justify his failure. The expectations are way too high even for a bright mind like his.

I checked out John McCain's website yesterday in the hopes I could find some sort of plan, but I couldn't. Just saying what he'll "try and do" not how or when. It was also 2/3 on attacking Barack Obama's plan. Guess I was right when I voted for BO.

One thing that has become clear during the campaign is that Obama clearly understands that major issues facing the country cannot be viewed in isolation but rather are interrelated thus making him more cognizant of the danger of unintended consequenses resulting from actons taken to address a particular issue. While I respect John McCain's devotion to serving our country I've reached the conclusion that Obama is better suited to LEAD the country. And important distinction to keep in mind is that the president leads, rather than runs, the country and I have greater faith in Obama's ability to motivate people to make the sacrafices that will be required inthe coming years.

I just have to say I really like Senator Obama, I've liked him from the days he was running against Hillary Clinton. For me personally, he embodies everything I would want a President to embody. I remember voting for Bill Clinton & feeling that same feeling, he's realistic while at the same time idealistic. Not a bad thing, it works for me! I believe we the people of the United States should be proud that we hopefully will be nominating what is considered a minority in this country. For all that I am sure others will feel differently, for me – well, I just feel proud that we have all pulled together to hopefully elect him. White, black, asian, it doesn't matter – Catholic, Protestant, Jew, it doesn't matter, what matters is having someone in the white house who believes it really is about "we the people"!

Did you just hear that Sarah Palin is accusing "the media" of limiting her First Amendment rights?? Because the media (and the voters!) are saying she's been running a negative campaigning. YIKES!!
Questions remain about John McCain: What are the facts about his ties to G. Gordon Liddy, the convicted Watergate criminal AND domestic terrorist. And he has more close ties to the Palestinian representative that McCain/Palin has taken Obama to task for. Can the hypocrisy be any worse than these two??
Truly a dishonorable campaign.

They will all be thinking that it is a "fix". because CNN and others had them convinced with these phoney poll numbers. The problem in relying on these phoney numbers, is that if the strategy doesn't work, there will be consequences. And who's going to take responsibility for those ??

They key to Obama helping to repair the country is to

a. Respect the Constitution and the rule of law.
b. Exercise some fiscal responsibility
c. End the fiasco of our Iraqi adventure
d. Show some respect for world opinion
e. Practice honesty, openness and competent governing practices.

If Obama can do all five, we will correct much of the malpractices of the Bush years.

Fairness doctrine, union secret ballot vote, taxes on productive businesses going up, our international security being weaken as the spineless one will be reducing the military, we are about to take ourselves back to the Jimmy Carter years, God help us.

Senator Obama top priority is to ask God the knowledge and wisdom to lead this country. Once, he is engaged to the true and living God, then God, the true and living God will take care everything.

See the life of the great Bible characters: David was a shepherd boy and he became a king of Israel. His son Solomon succeded him and he asked God to give him wisdom and knowledge and God gave him so much that his wealth and fame was known all over the world. There are may more... I would suggest search the Scriptures and you will find godly men who trusted God.

it's the economy stupid, as Barack has stated.

Take that Mc-Insane

Steve in Las Vegas,NV   October 31st, 2008 3:57 pm ET

He will need to work on the economy and to help people who will or have faced foreclosure. Ensure how the bailout will help the people who need it and NOT the CEO's.

He will surround himself with some of the best minds around for counsel and guidance, and be sucessful. This will take some time, but in the end it will be ok.

GA voter   October 31st, 2008 3:57 pm ET

This is one of the most common questioned asked in US presidential politics, but I personally don't like this question at all. Because:

1. You cannot get anything but a politican answer – even though Obama did a much better job than most others would have done because he answered the question by bringing up new issues and generalizing it to connect them together.

2. The question is simply not fair to anyone running for office because if the candindate says that s/he would like to do all of the above, then it looks like s/he is not answering the question. If they pick one or the other, then they lose also with people who thought that the other issues should be his/her priorities.

Let's retire this question. Great job though Sen. Obama...

VOTE Smart: McCain/Palin – we can TRUST them

Matt   October 31st, 2008 3:56 pm ET

I hope he pushes for universal voter registration and uniform federal voting procedures...not to mention campaign finance reform. Our democracy is broken primarily because the systems required to make it work are broken.

TAINOPOWER   October 31st, 2008 3:56 pm ET

This is what is going to happens in the united states of obama. Reporters cast away , tv stations order to turn off, web pages remove. we might have only one tv channel the obama channel.? His past actions let me believe that this country is going to be turn to a socialist system against our will.

Obama tax plan ? From 250,000 to 200,000 Biden say 150,000 and now the New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson say 120,000? and obama is not in power yet . Wen he does don’t know how low will it go? Maybe under 42,000. Well at least the people that don’t pay taxes are going to be happy. I will do my best to keep my taxes low .I will vote for McCain.

THE END OF AMERICA by OBAMA   October 31st, 2008 3:55 pm ET

All you're going to do is raise taxes and flush this country down the toilet.

Man, I *cannot* wait until this man is president.

Free at Last!   October 31st, 2008 3:55 pm ET

I really think an Obama presidency will allow white people to honestly be critical of a black man, in a mixed audience, based on how he performs as president without the false stigma of being considered a racist. This has always been awkward for me before, it seems OK now.
I know I will feel quite liberated.

VETERAN FOR OBAMA   October 31st, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Senator McCain you are no hero, you are in fact a terrorist.

Your campaign advisor & "Transition Chief" William Timmons was a Saddam Hussein lobbyist for 5 years.
You pal around with Gordon Liddy, domestic terrorist.
You are a member of "The Project for a New American Century" – a radical extremist terrorist organization.
Your VP candidate's husband Todd Palin is a domestic terrorist in the Alaskan Independence Party.
You accuse Obama of knowing Rashid Khalidi, yet you yourself have given Rashid Khalidi & the PLO $500,000.00!!! So by your logic, if Obama is a terrorist sympathizer like you claim, then you Senator McCain are a state sponsor of terrorism. You are, by your own twisted logic, a terrorist by your own admittance.
You have met with Chilean Dictator Pinochet, a terrorist.
You're coordinated effort to use FOX NEWS, the Bush Administration, your campaign, Sarah Palin, and The Justice Department to commit voter fraud, voter intimidation, & voter suppression is an act of terrorism.

John McCain please keep your dignity, drop out of the race, and endorse your friend & colleague Barack Obama as President and let's all move forward from here together.

Leah   October 31st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

It took a democrat to clean up after the first Bush mess,,, here we go again! Yes We Can!

John in Ohio   October 31st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

"[The] top priority may not be any of those five. It may be continuing to stabilize the financial system. We don't know yet what's gonna happen in January," he said. "None of this can be accomplished if we continue to see a potential meltdown in the banking system and financial system. So that's priority number one — making sure the plumbing works."

So there you go, pundits and independents who've complained that Obama hasn't acknowledged the difficulty that the financial crisis poses for anyone trying to establish meaningful energy and economic reforms.

Yes, Obama does know that there is a problem with the economy, and he does know that fixing it is job one, but he also has a plan for after this crisis ends.

Denise Bolin   October 31st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Barack Obama just keeps on proving why he should be the next President – he is eloquent, intelligent, knowledgeable, well-spoken, and his temperament is that of a leader. All the negative and hateful slurs that the McCain has thrown at him have divided this nation. They are willing to lie and mislead the American people in order to get elected. I don't want a President of that character, and I certainly don't want Palin anywhere near the White House with her right wingnut mentality and lack of understanding of foreign policy.

Well..   October 31st, 2008 3:50 pm ET

At least he *has* priorities outside of just getting himself elected, unlike John McCain who has sacrificed his integrity, his morals, and his soul to the RNC just to get into office so he can spit on his fathers grave. McCain is no different in Bush in that aspect – he HAS to one up his father.

Looking forward to the election results on Tuesday that will put this man in the White House.

GA Independent   October 31st, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Excellent answer. But if there is a stimulus plan – consider a requirement that any "checks" are spent on American small businesses, "made in America", etc. Fix your car, hire someone to repair your house, tutor your kid, buy a product made/mined/drilled/dug/etc. in our country. Get people to spend these dollars on US business and industry so the wealth truly does spread WITHIN. Maybe the next check is only worth 50% of face value if spent at Walmart on electronics...

tulsa   October 31st, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Senator, We are behind you.
We know it's not going to happen in 100 days. Not in a year, not in one term, probably. All we expect is an honest attempt at working towards those goals.
Keep the congress in line.
Keep us safe.
Weed out corruption regardless of party.
Keep our place in the world rising. Get us back to where we were 8 years ago.
We are willing to work hard. We are willing to sacrifice.
We are ready for change.
We stand with you.
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN!

Spread the Wealth!   October 31st, 2008 3:50 pm ET

You forgot to say your number one priority is taxing those that do and giving it to those that don't.

Spread the wealth remember? How can you forget so fast!

Michelle, PA   October 31st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

I love a man who thinks long-term and has his priorities in order.

John in Ohio   October 31st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

I'm so excited for the future. I can't wait. And if Obama puts out a call for mechanical/electrical engineers or for military vets who want to get into teaching, I'll answer.

Pua, HI   October 31st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

It is so refreshing to have such a brilliant individual like Senator Obama as our next President, along with a capable Vice President, Senator Biden.

mitch   October 31st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

im glad our next president has priorities and plans. mccain has attacks on obama's priorities and plans.........

JuTon   October 31st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

I love your priorities Barack!!! Well thought out and makes a lot of sense. None of this can be done without stabilization of the economy and we can't keep depending on China for money for energy!

Obama/Biden 08 & 12! 5 more days til the finish!

Tony, NC   October 31st, 2008 3:48 pm ET

What about balancing the budget? Dumbing down those expectations already?? Once again Obama proves himself a liar..

Lupe,TX   October 31st, 2008 3:48 pm ET

I like those priorities, Barack.! Seems like a candidate that has a VISION of what American can and will be!

Sam SixPack   October 31st, 2008 3:48 pm ET

I'm sure we will all love marching hand-in-hand to our new training-wage jobs.

Vote smart , Vote Obama , the man is the right person at the right time.

Go Obama !

Dave   October 31st, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Whatever, you fool. You will take your marching orders and do whatever your buddies at the CFR and the Bilderberg conferences tell you to do. I'm not one of the sheep that actually think anyone from the scam two party system is capable of governing on their own.

Paul, TX   October 31st, 2008 3:47 pm ET

McCain is too old to be president!

I'm a republican, and have great respect for the man, but i do think his age is a valid issue.
Especially because his running mate Palin terrifies me! If she becomes president the USA would fall apart! And Americas already poor global reputation will be shattered!!

Imagine Sarah Palin dealing with the Iraq war….. the economic crisis she knows nothing about….. What if USA is attacked again while she is in charge. That is Scary!

Palin is a risk i'm not willing to make!!

JEFF   October 31st, 2008 3:47 pm ET

you need to get rid of campbell brown, shes obnoxious.

phil   October 31st, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Education, education, education is much needed in America today more than ever!

Joe Regis   October 31st, 2008 3:47 pm ET

We need to elect somebody with a steady hand to fix the economy and the country which is going in the wrong direction by all accounts. We need to send a clear message to the repubs that we are going to take it any more.

Landslide Obama/Biden 08/12.

Cory   October 31st, 2008 3:46 pm ET

He's so smart it's refreshing.

Brenda C   October 31st, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Be careful Wolf!! Ask only questions that Obama told you to ask. You know what happens when you ask him a real question. You'll be put off the plane with the other reporters and the Obama squad will start their investigation at once. I guess you people on CNN missed the news reports where Obama has thrown off three major newspapers from his plane?

dustin   October 31st, 2008 3:46 pm ET

hopefully one of those priorities is fixing the way voting is done, i'm tired of every election having doubts about who's votes will not be counted.

Sam   October 31st, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Now ALL the nay sayers of Obama that he is all talk, can rest! He has repeated time and again his plans; now he has also outlined his priorities.

Whether one agrees or not with his plans and priorities, at least he has outlined them. That is helluva lot more than what McCain has done.

mackie   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

You have the judgement Obama so we trust you will do what is right when prioritizing. It will be a bad situation that you inherit but you will do right with the great team around you.

RealityKing   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Spend, spend, spend...

Charles in Cincinnati   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I hope #6 is the environment...Bush has been a disaster on that...but I couldn't agree more on his Top 5.

You know, it feels good to have confidence that the President (elect) actually knows what he's doing and is on the right path...for a change.

W Spivey Merritt Island, FL   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

John McCain is one scary individual.

Jennifer   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I'll be watching!

sfokc6125   October 31st, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I fact the money will never go to the less than better off. It will just go to a slush fund that they will put in the hands of his bully buddys Acorn. There is no way to do what he wants. We as Americans give and run so many places that use donations. We have groups that do good work and This man is only out to control the country . We have a system the is a set check and balance . We dont need Big Brother doing it for us. The democrats have had the house for 2 years that is when the bottom started to fall out. He has too many unanswered questions for me. I do know you dont raise taxes when you have a weak dollar. You cut both taxes and spending. This will give you the buying power so goods are bought so the retailer pays taxes the wholesalers pays taxes the both make more money and hire more so it grows the economy. So think is it better to raise or lower. I was taught you work hard you save you grow. There are no free rides and the US Gov is not a cash cow.

Ed from Dallas   October 31st, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Smart guy. Without our economy back on its feet, you can kiss goodbye all other things including our military and security.

Energy independence – Means a whole lot of new jobs – leading to more tax revenue for uncle sam – more money to do a whole lot of other stuff he has promised.

Shows he has his priorities right. Smart guy he sure is.
But remember to vote for the mart one.
