Biden invited questions from traveling reporters for the first time in weeks.

LIMA, Ohio (CNN) – Joe Biden invited questions from his traveling press corps for the first time in almost eight weeks on Friday night, rejecting reports that the campaign has muzzled his famous talkative behavior and saying he hopes that he and John McCain will still be friends after this contentious election is over.

“I don’t know, I hope [the friendship] is intact, John and I have not had a chance to speak,” Biden said, standing in a burger joint with his wife and one of his granddaughters. “I hope [it’s] intact because I still admire him, I still like him.”

“We have strong, strong, fundamental disagreements on policy, and we have our whole political life together. I mean, we've been arguing about everything from Amtrak to Afghanistan for, you know, as long as we've been together,” he continued. “I believe when this is over, win or lose, John and I are likely to be around in one form or another, in one job or another, and I hope, my hope is we can work together.”

Biden roundly criticizes his friend of over three decades for the “scurrilous” attacks Republicans have launched on Barack Obama at the end of this election season. Friday night he accused the Republican nominee of being wrong on “every single foreign policy judgment,” but said he was pleased to see that McCain’s latest television ad is a positive one.

“I hope John ends this campaign with his strength,” said Biden. “Win or lose, it's not a good thing to end in sort of this bitter tone. No matter what happens.”

Until Friday night, reports of a ‘muzzling’ from the Delaware senator’s campaign were widespread, as he avoided speaking to the handful of reporters that travel with him for almost two months, ignored questions reporters asked during photo-ops at local stops, strayed very little from the scripts of his campaign speeches and kept them brief.

“Well, I’ve had over 200 interviews,” Biden countered, referring to appearances he’s made with mostly local media since joining the ticket. “I’ve been doing half a dozen to a dozen satellite feeds everyday. I’m doing shows, I mean, so, no one said anything to me about it.”

Biden said he feels good about the state of the race in its final days, quickly adding that he’s felt the same way in the last two elections that Democrats lost. A reporter noted that he’s campaigning in several of Ohio’s Republican strongholds, to which Biden responded that the campaign believes they can compete everywhere and have to because the election “is going to be a lot closer than everybody thinks.”

Pressed on which battleground states he believes will be close, he rattled off Florida, North Carolina, Missouri and Ohio but noted “I feel very good about Pennsylvania” and “Virginia feels really good.” In CNN’s latest poll of polls, Obama leads McCain by 11 percent in Pennsylvania and seven in Virginia.

I'm sure, that if McCain wins, Joe's nose will be browner than any of them.

For the sake of the US and the world I hope Obama wins this election. As a Canadian it will sure change my mind on how I feel about the US. If he wins I might even visit. If for some strange reason McCain is elected as your next president and his policy stays the same as BUSH then I and many others will continue to stay away from the US and continue to hold the US in contempt.

glenn alexander–it's apparent you don't have a clue what a tax credit is.If you have not voted yet, find out what a $5000.00 tax credit is-you will want to vote for McCain.

Mark Kahle–Find out the FACTS,you don't have a clue because they HAVE said $250,000,$200,000,$150,000.and now$120,000 .McCain has always said NO TAX INCREASES FOR ANYBODY !!

Don't vote your EMOTIONS ,vote with your BRAIN

You Obama/Biden followers are need to pull your head out of the sand. Biden is a laughingstock! "Stand up, Chuck. Let 'em see ya. Oh my God! What am I thinking?..."

Do you people know anything about your candidates? McCain is a genuine American hero and has suffered far greater indignities than Obama, Biden or any of you could possibly imagine. Palin is the embodiement of the American dream. A small town girl that got involved and took on the corrupt politicians in her state and is on the precipice of becoming the first woman in American history to be a member of the executive branch of government. Those qualities are not the only reasons to vote for them, but they're more than most of you could say for your candidates.

Your misguided hatred for President Bush has clouded your judgment. If you had nominated Sen. Clinton I would be less inclined to even respond to you folks. Barack Obama is the least experienced candidate from the two major political parties in modern history and yet you blindly put your faith in him.

Voting for change? Be careful! You may not like the change you get and the country will be worse off for it.

"Country first" is more than a slogan. John Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." Please, don't vote for Obama because he has promised you the moon and the stars (and the oceans rising). He's only promising you this in exchange for your votes. Don't be bought!

Hussein is just a name is that suppose to scare people? When you are a baby you do not choose how you want to name yourself this is just good sense. In America you will find different name from Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Peter, George Bush, Samuel Alito and etc. This is a multy culture country and people from different part of the world are leaving here and they name their kids accordingly. That do not make the kids bad or a terrorist; in fact they are American like all of us. We have people from Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Lybia, Venezuela leaving in the USA and the fact that they have roots from these country do not make them bad people. Nasty, Nasty campaign can you afford four more years of this mess. After this eight years term this republican president will still have his mansion and guess what? that mansion is pay off for. Some of you already lose your home and some of you will. Some of you already lost your job and some of you will while the people that cause this financial mess are getting richer. The president which is partly to blame for that mess is still getting his fat pay check every week and never think one day how his bills going to pay for because you are paying for them. These republicans claim that they are conservative and religious and the democrats are not while all of them are doing the same things. What is the difference by telling abortion is wrong when you doing it behind the close doors. These are selfish republican’s behavior. According to statistics abortions, divorce, gay and lesbian have almost the same proportion among church people than non church people. You need common sense leadership. We do not need selfish leadership. Can you afford to have these selfish leaders in office again?
They had tried everything and I tell you it is nasty. These republicans believe that they have not done enough damage to this country and they are trying to scare you. What is that mean now? When they say that his aunt is here illegally. If you an American you an American and I think your background, your religion, and race should not be matter.
Now that socialism, terrorism do not work they want to bring these nonsense to scare you America. The economy is issue # 1 and they had chosen not to talk about and try to scare you with these nonsense. This war need to come to an end because $10 billions dollars a month can do a whole lot here in the US from job creation to education and infrastructure improvement. Our current president is a republican and they had done enough to our economy and job market.

"FOR ALL WE KNOW MCSENILE HAS POST TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME !!"

-Posted by blkkbbeauty

I have combat-induced PTSD (they label it a disorder now, not a syndrome), and I think perhaps you should get your facts straight as to what PTSD actually is, and how it affects people, before you open your mouth. Nobody that I know that has PTSD (which I imagine is far more people than you know), has ever done even accidentally had an act of violence, or have done anything out of rage. Senility is a completely different case. Based on Sen. McCain's fully released medical files, he does not suffer from dementia (AKA senility), or PTSD.

PTSD is not something you can simply cover up. You cannot choose the moments in time that you remember a fragment of your best friend's brain ending up in your mouth after a hollow point impacts his skull, you can't choose the moments that you remember scrambling to aid the 15 burnt and dismembered bodies of your platoon all over the ground and hearing the same guys that you used to drink with or go to the club with scream out in pain.

So if he does have PTSD, why don't you take some time to thank him for bearing the responsibility that you were far too cowardly to bear instead of using it as a precursor to hate the man. He has many other flaws that you can smear without having to unjustifiably hate a natural human reaction to carnage.

And your point is????

As desperate as your party is to take a single word, and turn it into " a story" i too would be practicing 24/7 and making sure my every word was deliberate & on message.

At least Biden doesnt claim that the VP runs the congress!

I'll also betcha Biden wouldnt go hunting and shoot another human being! (OOPS.... gosh.... so sorry i shot ya! but look at the good side.... at least your not dead like thousands of americans are in IRAQ!)

And Biden isnt going to force me (by laws) to have a baby by someone who rapes me! (You were raped? OH GOSH, your bad! Now as your reward, you have to carry that baby for the next 9 months and give birth to it because my religion trumps your stupidity in putting yourself in a position of being raped!)

I really do respect Joe Biden. As a member of the US Senate for 35 years, you got to expect what the guy is talking about. McCain really has no room to call the Obama-Biden ticket inexperienced. McCain and Palin together has about 28-29 years of experience. Obama and Biden together has about 39 years of experience on the ticket. So in other words John McCain has no room to talk about Obama having no experience on his ticket. Obama08.

I want to know why Biden would even want to be friends with "this" McCain, who clearly is not the same McCain he used to know..I really want to know more about McCains "black" daughter too, and have seen the series on McCains other black relatives TOO, who he refuses to have anything to do with even though his brother DOES and attends all family reunions ! Also want to SEE Palins medical records, hear more about Palins Alaska charges and outcome, it appears to ME, there is more left un said about McCain and Palin than Obama..all the dirt has already been thrown at Obama, and he has had to take it, and still remains calm, and respectful ..and knowledgible, ready for office...
voted for OBAMA already in tEXAS

Joe is a nice, sweet and honest guy. What would someone like him even want a friendship with McCain for? I am also very worried that somehow the ballot boxes are rigged...and that is why they keep talking about how close it is. Obama and Biden can be proud of the campaign they have won. They didn't get personal or hit below the belt. The argued policies. McCain and Palin, on the other hand, have called Obama a liberal, a Socialist, hinting he is a communist, pals around with terrorists, etc. They've done nothing to stop the jokes about Hussein Obama, and little jokes about Osama...whoops, I mean Obama. Joe the Plumber is just a cheap and stupid trick. It's the dumming down of America big time. Someone like Biden as a running mate is refreshing. At least he isn't getting his votes by wearing skin-tight skirts, and even as Tim Gunn put it, "Weaing Disco Barbie Boots." When Obama and Biden win, at least they have won "fair and sqare!"

Tabitha   November 1st, 2008 1:15 pm ET

I would much rather have a VP that's not afraid to speak his mind, even if he ends up putting his foot in it, than a VP that can't get her job description straight, does NOT know the Constitution of the US, and can only speak if she's given a script.

You go, Joe.

SevenEleventy   November 1st, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Joey Hairplugs has more indepth knowledge of what? Certainly not the facts! During the VP candidate debate, he said that the French helped us(America) kick Hezbollah out of southern Lebanon in 2006.
I was waiting for him to channel John Belushi and say, "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" While he did sound like he knew what he was talking about, he clearly didn't!
Slow Joe showed his international brilliance by stating, “Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran,” in response to 9/11.
The only thing Senator Biden has proven is that he is unworthy to hold the chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, or any governmental position for that matter.

Independent for USA only   November 1st, 2008 1:08 pm ET

The "muzzled Biden" rumor was a smear game by McCain's campaign again! This is a usual strategy that veep candidate maintains his/her supportive role in order not to distract the presidential candidate.

don   November 1st, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Is it time for Obama Biden?
Biden was silenced by the campaign since he cannot follow script!
Obama when rarely off script gets the reaction like to Joe the plumber.
Obama-Beiden= Holywood in its best, no authenticity.
Obama-Biden = the mother of all negative campaigning claiming Bush = McCain (a basic logical fallacy, McCain is not a typical Republican).
No extreme: no socialistic Obama and no extreme-Mercantelism Bush style. America stick to the middle! Extreme "solutions" never work!

Jessica   November 1st, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Uuuummmmm. "talinopower"

Under $250,000 will not see an increase...

This means, some get cuts, and some stay at the ALREADY LOW RATE UNDER BUSH!!!!! To know exactly who gets cuts vs. who stays the same, go to Obama's website. There is a tax calculator there where you you can enter your information and get the facts.

Get the facts and remember...we all have to pay for Bush/McCains war without sacrificing what we need here at home.......................................

Biden is a drag on the campaign.. he was right, Obama should had picked Hillary! BTW: new poll released, more and more Americans are growing more confident of Governor Palin. and those same Americans believe that Biden is a drag... he can't bring in the same crowds that Palin brings.. so CNN, keep on spinning

Annette   November 1st, 2008 12:58 pm ET

If Palin can avoid the reporters, what's the big deal on Biden??? the national news media have been drulling to get interviews with Palin, yet Biden has done interviews and talked with reporters. Why is this news on Biden talking with the media? The media need to muzzle themselves, and stop looking for that " big scoop" and report the news as given.

Jessica   November 1st, 2008 12:56 pm ET

This comment is not relevant to Sen. Biden, but was to do with those on Fox News, and these blogs screaming that that commercial that show a clip of Palin winking after McCain quote about relying on his VP pick for advice on ecomonic matters was "misogynistic"and "sexist".

(The commercial was spot on, by the way...LOL)

As a woman, winking...er flirting, with the audience, has NO PLACE ON A NATIONAL STAGE. This type of behavior belongs in a 1950's sitcom. If a woman wants to be strong, she needs to prevent herself seriously. I wouldn't dream of going to a job interview and winking at a panel interviewing me. The campaigns are nothing more than extended job interviews in which the panel is the American people.
I think her obvious lack of knowledge, vicious attack methods, and annoying mannerisms are the reasons why her favorability ratings are the lowest for a VP candidate in US history.

For the few Hillary supporters who moved to McCain because of Palin...I beg you, study up on Clinton's policies and contrast them with Palin's and you will discover polar opposites. VOTE ISSUES, NOT GENDER!

Peace!

Florida Woman   November 1st, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Hey Tainopower, can you read, are you smarter than a 5th grader?
$250,000 no tax increase for working families
$200,000 no taxes increase for individuals
$120,000 to $150,000 is where the MAJORITY of the tax cuts will be (that is what Richardson and Biden were taking about)
$42,000 is a misrepresentation by McCain/Palin (AGAIN) is was a budget vote not a tax vote.
By the way Palin got her ONCE (not any more)high Alaska approval rating by RAISING the TAXES the OIL Companies and "Spreading the Wealth" to the people of Alaska by giving EVERYONE of them checks but her words were "an Equitable Share", oh and look what she did to Wasilla with the Ice Rink (mega debt to a small town)
MCCAIN is ONLY going to cut taxes if you make OVER $250,000.
But Gee, at least Ombam/Biden give you details to ponder, Mc Sleaze/No Ehtics Palin, only give you buzz words no detail,or attack Omaba, being a POW 41 years ago does not automatically make to ready to lead this country or that he was tested, he broke and sign a letter of confession to the Vietcong, many Vietnam era Vets call him Songbird McCain (my Ex did 3 tours in the 70's...Country First My A____! The choice of Palin made it very clear it is Politics First, I go into a cold sweat anytime I think what his cabinet would look like.

The big difference between Biden's Gaffes and Palin's are that Biden says things that are true but probably shouldn't be said in the midst of a campaign. Where as Palin gaffe's reflect on her ignorance and lack of understanding on the issues.

Tainopower, do you even KNOW what YOUR candidate's tax plan is? Well I do – first you will have to add in what your employer pays for your health insurance to your income. Then you will be taxed on that income. You will pay more in tax than you do now. Even with the "bare bone" he is throwing you (the $319 that he is giving to average incomes), you first have to add in the $5,000 to $10,000 that your employer pays for your health insurance. Your tax will increase under McCain's plan. Unless, that is, you are a millionnaire, in which case you'll see a huge tax reduction. That is McCain – always looking out for the rich guy.

It is strange to hear two candidates.... and the Clintons speaking about the issues.... yes, in very strong terms, but not attacking the repubs two candidates as human beings.

Whatever happens, Obama and Biden come out of this standing on their two legs upright as Human Beings. While McCain and Palin are like Four Leggeds of the lowest level.... if you lie down with pigs, do not be surprised if you get up smelling like HOGS. McCain and Palin will be a long time shaking off the nasty oder of the way they have run their campaigns! I for one will never forget the stench.

I see someone claim "Biden is a deep thinker."

I guess that explains why he think "JOBS" is a three-letter word. Or why he would tell a guy in a wheelchair to stand up. Or why he think America and France drove Hezbollah out of Lebanon (where in the world did his aneurysm-rattled brain get that one?).

Biden is an exceptionally scrambled "thinker".

Biden will not be muzzled because he tells it like it is. The fact that clever Rovian McBush aids twist his words does not alter the real truth.
I think the relationship between Biden and McBush is strained because Biden is disgusted with the low brow tactics of the McBush campaign.

If the polls are right, Americans are going to be stuck with Obama for at least four years. Given the unrealistic hope for change that he and his media acolytes have built up, the disappointment that will set in once the electorate realizes that it has been fooled into buying an empty smooth-talking suit full of hot air will be even greater. I predict that Obama's inability to change anything, except the amount of money that will be wasted by his administration, will result in enormous mid-term Congressional gains for the Republicans in 2010. Like Jimmy Carter, Obama is an ostensibly decent man (although one of even less substance) who was never cut out to hold the nation's highest elected office. Like Carter, he will turn out to be a disappointing failure and a one-term president. If the law can ever be changed to allow those who were not born in the U.S. to run for President, a certain California governor might be able to turn all the blue states the deepest shade of red in a future election. Speaking of the foreign-born (as a former native of Chile, that applies to me as well, by the way) , will Obama ever produce his birth certificate? The country will face an interesting legal problem if Obama wins the Presidency and is later found out not to have been legally entitled to run for the office because he was not born in the United States.

I tell ya what though; my slash and burn campaign against the Republicans will never stop, even with an Obama win. The Republicans are totally out of touch, and starting to look irrelevant in the modern political landscape. We've seen what the policies of the GOP, McCain & Bush get us.....2 wars, a collapsing economy, bailouts for 700 billion+, Al Qaeda strongest it's been since 2001, Pakistan deteriorating, an emboldened Iran, Collapsed Housing Market, The world hates us, on and on it goes.

The Republicans can never be allowed to control both branches of Government again.

From a Canadian neighbour to my US neighbors. Elect Obama, you will be glad you did. He represents views in the majority of the G8 countries. I know he is be called a Left Liberal. But then Palin is SO Right Rebublican, they probably meet around the bend.

The most richest, most powerful country in the world can't afford medical insurance for 47 million people.

In Canada, Brittain, Germany and more every citizen has health care. Next to the War, which the majority of the world condemns, your health care and economy will be straightened out by Obama and is highly educated economic team.

Joe Biden is a fool. Most writers to this blog will disagree, but it's obvious. If you listen to what he said about Barack Obama during the primaries, and listen to him now, he is in essence calling himself a liar. That's what a fool does.

BM
You will clean up corruption, McSame? What was the Keating 5 all about? Seems to me that started the corruption in Washington!

I would suggest you read some facts rather than vomit the nonsence you hear on the web. The prosecutor insisted McCains name be taken off this list of the "Keating Five" but since the other 4 were Democrats, a deal was struck to leave him on. The Prosecutor (Bennett, a lifelong liberal Democrat) said McCain should not have ever been implicated in this, he is totally innocent.

McCains name was left on so fools like you could crow about it 25 years later.

I have noticed this of CNN. They struggle hard to conceal their disdain for Obama in the guise of being neutral. I also wondered why Anderson Cooper and John would accentuate not just the feelings of African Americans but make it appear asif Obama’s win is only important to Blacks. Remeber also that after being dissed by Maccain Larry King chose to have him on on the same day the channel rejected Obama’s infomercial. What is more, they went ahead and scheduled Cindy Maccain for maximum impact on Monday evening. In reality CNN is worse than Fox. At leas we know where Fox stand. the hypocricy of CNN is shocking.

The absolute venom that I read from people on these articles is disgusting. You say the worst things about republicans as if their opinion doesn't count as much as yours because they don't scream it hysterically. What happened to the party of acceptance?

When it looked like Palin was muzzled you screamed about it, now you deny it about Biden! Turn it around and look at it RATIONALLY. It does appear so – admit it. Stop using your intellect by just screaming the DEM party line – it makes me want to vote Repub – just to not be identified with such venom-spewing robots.

Use your logic, not your hate to make remarks and these comments can be useful. Anytime CNN prints something not along your line of thinking you go into attack mode – as if CNN is making up news!

Turn it around: if Freddie Mac gave millions to the republicans (like they did the dems) and those same senators VOTED to bail out FM, you would be SCREAMING about it. Other way around and you all say "so what?" as if there isn't a conflict of interest there. There are so many things you need to look at logically.

Voting for McCain for lower taxes is like shopping at Walmart. It seems like a good idea at the time but what do you get? You get cheap goods that are made by sweat shops. You get pink slips from your employer and then no way of buying the Walmart specials. Let's face it, nobody reading this post will actually be paying more in taxes under Obama other then the fact that you actually might have a job therefore will pay more in taxes. Wake up people, when was it okay to use Totalitary governments slave labor to make our goods? McCain wants to reward big coorporations for exporting our jobs. I'm all for global trade, only it should be for the countries that play by our standards. It is up to our Government to regulate, something that McCain opposses. Stop shopping Walmarts and vote for Obama!

Well just because you’re the freshmen of the senate with no military experience, executive experience, and a history of 20 year support of racial segregation semi-racist church as well as various terrorist connections (like Obama has) does not make you qualified to be President of the United States either.

We can tell the different between the righteous man and the small-mined one through what they said. Biden understands the friendship should be separated from politics. I have seen and heard some Republicans are hostile to the Democrats or vice versa. I believe, regardless of whether we are Republicans, Democrats, or Independents we are still all people of America. If we can’t live in harmony here in the U.S. would the people in the world believe America is a sincere peacekeeper?

Forget about the party, forget about race, forget about gender, VOTE for the one who you believe will bring hope to this country, fairness to people, and likely to be loved by the world.

If this country has been in trouble deeper and deeper, it would be wiser to turn the wheel to a different direction. At least it would bring some hopes.

Please VOTE according to your own INSTINCT.

The difference between Biden and Palin is that Biden is a deep thinker and Palin is an slogan spouter. He puts his foot in his mouth sometimes because he is constantly thinking, analyzing, examining the issues.

The difference between Biden and Palin is that Biden lacks good judgment of character and attentiveness to his campaigns and voters money. Biden (unlike Palin) was set to run against Bush in 2004, but he used poor judgment in trusting someone to manage his campaign funds, and this someone (Roger Blevins III) knew of Biden lack of attention to the voters money enough to be able to slowly steal ALL of the money voters trusted him over the span of a year and half and smile in Biden’s face about it day after day. This is not the same as someone just suddenly taking your campaign money and running with it. It takes someone with lack of judgment as well as inattentiveness to their own campaign to miss all of the money voters trusted them with being stolen over an extended period of time. To this day Biden remain the Senator who has had the most embezzled from him in history, and the only one to have it slowly embezzled over time. I bet you Obama or Clinton or McCain would have caught all their money being stolen from their campaign and you want to know why, because they are attentive enough to hold the job they do and Biden is not....this is why Biden is not president right now, and Bush is. The reason this form of embezzlement never happens to senators is because most of them do pay attention to the money voters trust them with, unlike Biden. Biden is not the kind of man we need in the white house, he is obviously as old and bald as McCain, but with worse judgment and a far higher lack of attentiveness.

Cantor   November 1st, 2008 12:01 pm ET

I liked McCain the man, dislike his policies. But the man lost his face and his soul using tactics and a huge amount of populism to beat his opponent. His strength was integrity. He lost that substance, turning out to be as shameless as many of his colleagues. He lost, even if he wins the elections (can't bear the thought).

Obama is really what this country needs. think long and hard, we're in time of war, terrible economy and in urgent need of an actual energy policy. Obama is perfect for the times we face. McCain showed lack of judgement, and let politics run his campaign, when he picked Palin. Romney would've been the better choice for VP. Go back and listen to Romney speak, and play it side has by side Palin.
Obama hasn't switched views to try and satisfy his base. McCain, I'm sorry, It's not your time this year either.

Mack   November 1st, 2008 11:53 am ET

There's something we can all take from this election that tends to please me. That the skeletons which we've hidden behind in the country has been exposed for all the world to see. Under the blanket of what we call the United States of America we're divided. Friends they may be, as McCain has stated, "politics is a nasty business". If you don't want your skeletons exposed don't get involved. But we have more than an economy to fix, we have a Nation to mend and heal as well.

wallace from ohio   November 1st, 2008 11:53 am ET

Off the subject just a little...

I live in Phoenix and the McCain/Palin are running ads now (they ARE shakin' in their boots) and you guessed it – It's Rev. Wright.

Do the neocon repugliCONs that McCain/Palin represent know anything but "fear, smear, mock and LIE"?

McCain, his campaign and the repugliCON party as well have proven to be nothing but toxic slime merchants who think repeating "Country First" will fool the voting public.

Tuesday they will find out that hate and race baiting is a repugliCON tactic of the past (unless you live in TX, AL, MS or IN) and we ain't buyin' it any more...

PS: Let's give Mexico what they want – Give'm Texas back because those folk are definately NOT American, just racists and bigots...

If you pay attention you will see that McCain and Palin have made their share of gaffes during this election. When McCain and Biden make mistakes verbally, it is just an unintentional slip. When Palin appears to stick her foot in her mouth, it seems like more of a Freudian slip.

Biden was really a better pick than McCains choice for Palin. Palin has no substance. She just shouts out well learned slogans and old nasty speeches. Palin shouldn't come closer to the White House than now.

WVU Student   November 1st, 2008 11:48 am ET

I've grown up in a Republican based family until the 2004 election.. It's clear that Obama is the best choice for this country with the Karl Rove style strategies that the GOP has been using. They don't try to appeal to voters on issues.. instead they try to smear the other candidates with garbage.

I realize politics will always be politics, and I understand that the Dems haven't kept it entirely clean either, but when you choose Palin as a VP, it's pretty obvious you aren't going to have great judgement to run this country.

To those complaining about taxes.. why are you complaining if you're making over 200k? This country should require it's wealthier population to pay more than those who aren't as fortunate. I can say that I'm proud that my family will be voting for that.. to give back to this country that has given so much to them to help rebuild it

I doubt Senator McCain is gonna lose sleep over a liar like Biden.

If Biden's team wins, though, a lot of Americans will lose sleep.

I kinda hope Dems win this election; the next four years will be enough to insure Republicans win the next 10 elections.

Republican Randy   November 1st, 2008 11:43 am ET

Am I ever glad this election is about over! A clear majority seem to want Senator Obama to win, which is pretty obvious. What troubles me is the Republican bloggers seem to have adopted the McCain/Palin attack dog style, and have little to no respect for a differing opion. Being able to have your own opinion is one of the many reasons american is so great. A truly "great" american will support whomever wins this election and work to unite this country once again. I'm not at all happy with what's happened during the George W. Bush Presidency, but I supported him as our president. I'm not really happy with either of our presidential choices this year, but I did vote for whom I thought was best for our country and I will support whomenver wins! I hope you'll all join me in supporting what's looking more & more like an Obama Presidency!

Stephanie   November 1st, 2008 11:42 am ET

McCain is not a lowlife; he is an honorable man who truly believes he can lead the country out of this mess. Unfortunately, he is out of touch and out of step with the shift that is beginning to take place throughout the world - and that is a shift to cooperation rather than divisiveness. As much as many Americans like to believe we are "in charge", we are not! We are a member of a global community and we are responsible for our actions in that community - and military action should be a last resort, not a kneejerk reaction. McCain was born and raised in a military family, spent years in a POW camp - his world view is too limited to handle the many, many problems that exist in today's world.

Do you understand that his plan basically would give a mere $500 per YEAR to people who don't even pay taxes, while his "redistribution of wealth" would impact small businesses and hurt the economy. Businesses HIRE and PAY people, Gov. doesn't.

Dave   November 1st, 2008 11:39 am ET

- Why has Sen. McCain not allowed Sarah Palin as promised alone to do interview with LKL, if she is qualified to be a VP of USA?
- Why is Sarah Palin’s windfall tax distribution to Alaskans not wealth distribution and “socialism”?
- Why are those checks from Bush Administration last May not wealth distribution and “socialism”?
Sarah Palin is a Fraud and must bet stopped before she messes up USA and the world

Obama will not renew the reductions in taxes.. Capital gains taxes will go to 20% in the beginning.. and maybe higher,
There will be more unemployment because of taxes on businesses, the oil drilling off the coastlines will not happen as fast, therefore protecting the middle east and the oil barons there.
What scares me about Obama is what he first started out as saying and what he is promising now. Who is going to pay for everything?
He is smart and speaks well.
Before you castr your vote, you need to look at records of both canidates.. the 'present' vote is one where a decision is not made.. Can he make decisions?

J in AZ   November 1st, 2008 11:36 am ET

All I hear about the vice president nominees are they are saying things and going against the Presidential nominee. I think this bodes well for Obama because Biden hasn't spoken out as much as Palin. Sure when they do talk they are going to say things that don't always go along with the Presidential Nominee because if they were running it would be their views. Doesn't mean they don't agree in the majority with who they are running with.

For all those people who are voting McCain/Palin just because you think they have the same views as Hillary I think you need to just admit you are voting because there is a woman on the ticket. I'm all for women rights and all that stuff but just because someone is a certain race, gender, party line doesn't mean they will run the country in the correct manner. Know the views before you cast the vote.

Carlos – your personal attacks on Tainopower are uncalled for. Quite frankly you should probably educate yourself on Obama's history. This is a man who has consistently voted for tax increases. The fact that he has not stated where he is going to get the money to pay for all the programs that he wants to dump billions into should have every taxpayer worried. Now that there are comments surfacing that his tax breaks are going to start to apply to fewer and fewer people, the American people should be focused on that. We have a candidate who has a history and an ideology of tax and spend, tax and spend. Maybe you want that in your next President, but you should not criticize people who suggest voters take another look.

Paul , Canada   November 1st, 2008 11:31 am ET

I would be carefull of that friendship seems to me if you are not what john McCain stannds for your not worth his time.
I was watching the opening of John McCains rally last evening on Cnn with the Governor of California. I am absolutly disgusted at the way he made remarks about Senator OBama's arms, legs and such. The people in America deserve better than this type of terrible trash talk. And i see John McCain was just going along with it hoping the smear machine worked up the crowd. Not all in that audience liked what they were hearing from what we could see.
My Question is if John McCain is elected President will he consider laughing at all the different people under his care just because they are thin , a little over weight or maybe people with disabilities. I guess if you are not just like him you are considered a joke.
Shame on Arnold and even more shame on McCain.

Joe Biden helped put laws in place that protect battered women.

Palin makes rape victims pay for their own rape kits, and wants to take away their right to end a pregnancy resulting from rape or incest.

I'm not sure why Joe Biden cares about remaining friends with McCain, but I guess he has his reasons. McCain only cares about himself and becoming president. His military record can't compete with his father's or grandfather's, so he has to become president to outdo them...Now, doesn't that sound eerily familiar?

Our current president is a republican and they had done enough to our economy and job market.

pam Eugene OR   November 1st, 2008 11:24 am ET

I pray after Obama is elected that all our politicians will get along for a change. There is too much wrong wit our country for in fighting. Loss is not new to McCain. He will get over it in time. In two years he will/should retire anyway.

SP   November 1st, 2008 11:24 am ET

I think the attempted control by the press by the Obama campaign is a serious issue. Facts – Three papers that all coincidentally had endorsed McCain were kicked off the Obama plane this week, to make room for Essence and Ebony magazines, which are monthly publications that don't need the same access as daily papers. An Orlando news station was denied further access to the Obama campaign after asking Joe Biden tough questions. Having a free press is a key part of a free society, so the Obama campaign punishing those who disagree with them as an attempt to control what is said is a real issue. If they are this bad now, what will it be like once they are in the White House?

Colleen   November 1st, 2008 11:23 am ET

I believe in my heart the Republican party has been hijacked and is being held hostage by small minded, extreme thinking folks who really want to stuff God down our throats...there is NO place for their religious rapture in our lives...do not tell me you go to church and are a Christian and in the next breath...spew hate...I'm not fooled...
Republicans! ...take back your party...rid yourselves of the Demons hiding behind the Bible..return to loving your neighbor as yourself...go back and ponder the likes of Tom McCall from Oregon...Ronald Reagan...good and decent men., true Republicans in the best sense of the word...seperate religion from politics...there is good in all manner of individuals...please become someone we can debate and find our way with...the world needs what we had before these nasty folks took over...find your hearts...and redeem your souls!

Biden by his flaking for personal injury lawyers has helped to destroy
small business in this country. These lawyers make is unaffordable
to get reasonable insurance and put folks out of business everyday
all around the country with their slip and fall lawsuits. I simply cannot
believe that anyone who runs a small business would support Obama
and Biden

John   November 1st, 2008 11:21 am ET

And herein lies the differences between the two campaigns. Biden took the opportunity to extend an olive branch and depite their differences, hope that fences can be mended. If the scipt were flipped, I'm sure that Palin or McCain would have taken the opportunity to point out how their opponents are "terrorist sympathizers", "socialists" or some other type of outrageous claim.

Take note right-wing puppets, the Obama/Biden campaign has taken the high road for the most part and that's one big reason they're winning. Most people just aren't dumb enough to be lead around by the "swift boat" tactics anymore and can see right through them. Biden has just showed you how the playbook has changed.

Erick 4 Obama   November 1st, 2008 10:55 am ET

firstly, the average american makes around $40,000 a year. on the far lowest end it can be $15-20,000 and on the high end $60-70,000. so no one makes taht kinda of money and if they do then they don't need any help. that is wealthy to the average person who, even with college education, only makes $40,000 a year. so the nuimber keeps changing because the obama folks are tying ot deifne rich. a rich person only sees themselves rich at a million dollars, while us average folks see rich at $100K. so they are only trying to define it to the critics and punditst like Fox news and Sean Hannity and them. I hate those guys.

With the personality of a used car salesman , and the foolishness of repeatedly defeated pesidential candidate ( but still grasping) Joe Biden has molded into a defender of Obama who has at the very least divided loyalty to America . If a person is sorry , great . But do not trust anymore.

Pat   November 1st, 2008 10:54 am ET

Maybe Joe Biden had better look up the meaning of the word “scurrilous” before applying it to John McCain’s campaign.

Maybe Joe had also better look up the word “bold-faced lie” - now touting Obama as the best thing since sliced bread, while insisting earlier - “I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the- job-training.”

The thing that Democrats find so “offensive” about McCain’s campaign is that it asks REAL questions about Obama and his policies.

Others don’t find that “offensive” at all – but, rather, an absolute IMPERATIVE in electing the next leader of the free world.

McCain- A patriot   November 1st, 2008 10:53 am ET

There is good reason for that, and John McCain should never speak to you again. You have smeared his good name, and said horrific things against someone who you called friend. It is typical of you.. The Republican Party has become Anti-American and everything our country was founded upon.

You will not be able to speak with him unless you meet his preconditions which are to:

Admit Barack is a Terrorist
Admit Barack is not American
Admit Barack is not really half white... he misses the 1/8 rule so he is Black
Admit that Barack is a Socialist
Admit that Barack is the Anti-Christ
Admit that Sarah Palin is Smart and Capable
Admit the Surge has worked (even though we are still there)
Admit that Taxes on the Rich is un american

The difference between Biden and Palin is that Biden is a deep thinker and Palin is an slogan spouter. He puts his foot in his mouth sometimes because he is constantly thinking, analyzing, examining the issues. When he gets long winded you can see he is think about a topic and has a depth of knowledge. Palin on the other hand reads scripted comments and slogans from a telepromter like her old job reporting high school hockey scores. have her go off script and have an indepth conversation and you have her use slogans and "style" over substance like in the debates or an empty rambling mess like the Couric interview.

reading all the comments on the news stories regarding the american presidential elections of 2008, i am coming to the conclusion that most of those who identify themselves as republicans and are supporters of sen. mccain/palin are intellectually-challenged, have a bigoted streak (think KKK!!!).

but i hope that the majority, nay the plurality of american voters will choose wisely their president and vice-president this time around because their country and the world could not tolerate and endure another bush-cheney tandem – their domestic and foreign policies have wrought so much damage to our world.

TAINOPOWER you are clearly very stupid and very ignorant of the facts. The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp, "Why?"

TAINOPOWER – Get a clue everyone already knows..

The tax plan is as follows.

250K – 200,001K no tax cut , but no tax increase either...

200,000 – on down receives a tax cut... so they are all right in stating 150K will get a tax cut under his plan, 120K gets a tax cut under his plan, 5K gets a tax cut under his plan...

admirable post, and certainly the mature way of looking at it. however, i myself will NEVER support nor rally behind a mcshame/palin administration should they find a way to steal this election. dont get me wrong, it wouldnt be a simple "sour grapes" reaction, because if john mccain (a man i once had a great deal of respect for even though i am a democrat) had run a decent and respectable campaign and ended up victorious, then so be it. tip of the ole cap.

but he chose to use these disgusting smear tactics and personal attacks, which only incited and fueled the bigotry of many americans. he spent far more time in this election trying to convince people why they should not vote for obama, rather than why america should vote for him. he has no honor left, he became a shallow old man willing to do anything and everything to win the presidency, he became everything he once claimed he stood against.

Charles in Atlanta   November 1st, 2008 10:27 am ET

John S   November 1st, 2008 10:25 am ET

Joe, I really think your old friend is not here with us any longer. I think the John McCain a lot of us admired and respected has lost his way. He has sold out to the Christian right and to the Corporate Regimes of this country just to win an election. Anyone who trys to divide America they way these two have, well, I have another word to call them and friend isn't one of them. To give up everything he stood for, he's very soul to be president reveals to the whole country what type of man John McCain really was. You didn't lose a friend Joe. You would never call a person a friend when he does something like that.

Did you forget Biden that McCain holds grudges? You should know him better than anyone! A liar is dangerous! One thing leads to another. McCain has run a dishonorable campaign. The things he has done to steal this election is incomprehensible.
Joe the Plumber was a plant. Now I'm wondering about the one who carved the "B" in her face and blamed it on a black man. Now just suppose she had given a description of someone and it had not been determined to be a hoax. Someone's son would be in serious trouble.

MBFLA   November 1st, 2008 10:14 am ET

Why would you want to be friends with a guy who would obviously sell his soul for power, Joe? McCain is not the guy you once thought you knew.

1 Country   November 1st, 2008 10:14 am ET

McCain takes this race personal because it's more about his legacy as a POV becoming President. So i think he feels that anyone who questions that is wrong. Joe smart Sarah is not. Obama calm McCain unstable. What would you have leading you.

I just watched McCain speaking and just can not believe the lies and distortions. Obama has said all along 200K-250K no change, 1K-200K tax reduction. And the "Joe the plumber" is totally false Joe is a unliscensed plumbers helper. To have one of your platform planks hung on the thoughts on the economic thoughts of Joe is crazy.

If a friendship is truly solid, it will continue no matter what happens professionally. The formula is simple....business and personal are two totally separate entities. So Joe, bottom line, you'll find out who McCain really is, a friend or foe! Should he not remain a friend, he never was in the first place!

Cindy   November 1st, 2008 10:12 am ET

With friends like McCain, who needs enemies. McCain has slung one muddy lie after another at Obama and Biden. It would be hard to call him a friend. In business, they say "nothing personal," but McCain has made his whole campaign personal.

Would you turn your back on John McCain knowing that he sacrificed his own life for our country?

For two thousand and seven days (5 ½ years) John McCain said “Country First” even if this meant receiving torture beyond belief by the Vietnamese captors. For two thousand and seven days, McCain did NOT turn his back on the nurse, the bus driver, the school teacher, the immigrants, the white, the black, the hispanics, the entrepreneur, the rich, the poor, and senior citizens. On the contrary, McCain said “I will sacrifice my life for every single American Citizen in the United States of America” even if this meant being in solitary confinement, getting the most atrocious beatings, getting smashed with a rifle on the shoulder, getting jabbed in the ankle, getting jabbed in the groin, getting knocked down, getting kicked in the head, getting the ribs cracked, having a high fever and losing consciousness for long periods of time, lying on vomit, blood and waste from the inhumane beatings.

This is our ONLY opportunity as a nation to do the right thing, and say “In McCain we trust” Please show your gratitude and loyalty to our country and to everyone in the United States by voting for McCain and Palin…

“I can only hope that every man that was ever in the military will read this book and appreciate the contributions of men like John McCain III. We all owe a debt of gratitude to men like him, true Americans who sacrificed everything for their country.” (Wayland Mayo)

For all of the ignoramuses who post on here: People under $250,000 will see no increase in taxes. People under $150,000 will get a tax cut. It's really not that complicated. I guess the country has to cave in before some of you will vote for a black man. He has run the most organized and successful campaign in history, but for some of you, nothing Obama does will ever be good enough. You same people, however, think Palin is great. This is the same woman who took six years and five colleges to get a freakin' undergraduate degree and who has a pregnant teenage daughter and a future son in law who are high school drop-outs. Her other children apparently never go to school, and her special needs baby is kept up all hours of the night, but she's a great role model. If Obama had a family like that, all of you would be calling him and his daughter welfare recipients who are eating away at the taxpayer's dollars.

Senator Biden is a gentleman in every sense of the word. I like, admire him, and am sure he will be one of the very best VP we've ever had. Senator Obama is very fortunate to have him.

Also, I don't believe for one minute that he has been "stifled". I'm sure it was his decision to back off because he didn't want to do or say anything to hurt Barack chances for election.

Sue   November 1st, 2008 10:07 am ET

What's up wtih the headline on this one? And, if you are so afraid of paying more taxes for education and health care – instead for wars – why aren't you upset with McCain's mortgage bail out plan? Cavuto was. TAINOPOWER: "From 250, 000 to 200,000"

Obama has *always* said that 250,000 for FAMILIES, and if you read his actual program that's been on his web site for months, you will see that he is talking about 250,000 for families that file taxes under the "Married Filing Jointly" area. Those that are either single or "Married Filing Separately" come under the 200,000 amount.

So, in one sense, families get more of a ceiling and a break than single folks, but the marriage penalty is still in strong effect for people that are "Married filing Separately" since if both people get close to $200,000 they'll end up getting more of a break than families that file jointly.

Faithlyn   November 1st, 2008 9:56 am ET

I am watching the polls ever since CNN has been carrying this election and if each week there was a swing amongst both Party then i would have some doubt in my mind about the final predictions. But since the last 4-6 months Obama has been leading. If Democrats loose this election then i know the system is a mess and full of illegal practices.

Glenn Martin   November 1st, 2008 9:56 am ET

Trust me, because Obama will likely win based on his dishonesty in wildly and intentionally over-promising what he can deliver, I and millions of other people will expose his dishonesty. There will be no middle ground and reaching across the aisle. We will destroy his dangerous ambition. Can't we all just get along? NOBAMA we have just begun to fight. Tainopwer.....I've heard this too! Obama has VOTED to tax everyone who makes $42,000. His campaign rhetoric went from $250,000 to $200,000. Joe Biden says it's more like $150,000. Now he has Gov. Bill Richardson saying it's more like $120,000. All talk when what Obama has actually VOTED for was to tax everyone making $42,000.

Already the figure is down to $120,000 for "spreading the wealth around". Guess the more they spew rhetoric the closer they get to touching on the truth.

What about that call at 3 AM that Hillary talked about. She said Obama is not a leader and will NOT keep us safe when tested as Joe biden said he would be tested within the first 6 months. Joe Biden said the presidency does not lend itself to "on the job training".

Why would you elect someone who would put our country at risk for another 9/11?

Emily   November 1st, 2008 9:45 am ET

Have to agree with Letitgo.

United we stand, Divided we fall. We've been divided for quite a few years now. Just read the comments on any news website that allows comments. I think if some of those people thought they could get away with causing serious bodily harm to those who disagreed with them, they would do it. I know a lot of people who will not put bumper stickers or any political signage up (for either side) because they're afraid of being vandalized or worse.

This is not the America I would want my children to grow up in. People should not be afraid to voice their opinions publically in real life for fear of losing their jobs or being vandalized or worse, and yet they are.

We need to end these partisan politics and work together to fix this country.

LM Florida   November 1st, 2008 9:45 am ET

Obama has NOT changed his tax plan – people have got to stop spreading this lie. These are just EXAMPLES, people. As far as it being socialism, we have had a graduated tax system since Teddy Roosevelt – Obama is simply letting Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy expire. NOT socialism.

A Hillary supporter strongly for Obama/Biden '08

OBAMA/BIDEN '08–'012

ABrown   November 1st, 2008 9:44 am ET

Obama's website explains his tax plan and it has not changed – $250K would not see a tax increase and under $200K would receive a tax break. And, people who don't pay taxes will not receive free money – educate yourself before you criticize. Also, look at McCain's tak plan and see where you stand.

Quit complaining   November 1st, 2008 9:44 am ET

Biden and McCain might be friends but there is a huge difference in their personalities with Biden being easy going and friendly while McCain is hostile and grumpy.

McCain is irratic and desperate whereas Biden is calm and unwavering in his appearance.

McCain will likely hold a grudge as he has the same mentality as Bush which is you are either with me or against me and if you are against me you are an enemy. There is a word to describe the latter and it fits both Bush and McCain to a Tee.
