Hillary Clinton earlier today at the polls.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have spoken, according to Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines.

Watch: Barack Obama is elected 44th president of The United States

The two spoke for a few minutes: Clinton congratulated Obama on his victory, and offered her condolences on the loss of his grandmother. Obama thanked the New York senator for all she did to help him win the election, and said he looks forward to speaking with both her and President Clinton soon.

not to your comment mark…but to the fact that hillary and obama spoke…to that I say …so what.

Joe Not the Plumber   November 5th, 2008 12:18 am ET

I'm switching parties, you Dems have to be the dumbest people I've ever seen to let the party go so far to the Left and put such a ill prepared person in the White House.

You all complained about Palin…and I honestly am ashamed of the way all of you feminists treated one of your own.

Its funny how only the Dem party can have women at the forefront.

Today we have lifted the white man's burden. We are all now poorer for it. Liberals have prevailed and we will pay for it. God help us. Barak obama cannot. His inexperience will be our undoing. Like the Romans we are doomed as a great nation. History will tell of this one day long after we are gone, as the day that a great nation fell to it's knees and corrupted itself to serve a past that we today did not invite. We picked our burden over experience, Mccain had the experience to guide us through this mess we are in. Obama is just a good speaker with charisma, but no value to our country. We are poorer today for it. We voted and we failed.

dale   November 5th, 2008 12:17 am ET

So what!

Vicky Garvin   November 5th, 2008 12:17 am ET

I am a 51 old black man living and FT. Worth, Tx (native Texas all my life). I never dream this day would come. I new one day it would but not in my lifetime. I watch my father go out election after election and support the demorcratic party , being disrepected, treated less than a man at time, fearing for hisself and his family, because of conviction and tonight all the things he said would happen has happen. "I WISH HE HAD LIVE TO SEE THIS DAY" GOD BLESS HIM AND AMERICA FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA. My father is smiling down here tonight .

moses wambiya nyongesa   November 5th, 2008 12:16 am ET

Lowell in Washington   November 5th, 2008 12:14 am ET

It is nice to see that our great nation has gotten beyond race and gender, and has moved forward once more. I am looking forward to seeing Barack make friends rather than creating enemies and restoring our face in the world.

fairness   November 5th, 2008 12:13 am ET

Clintons are the best, such a great people. Such a smart, intelligent, giving people.

Happy to see the result from Trisha B here in Canada. Now you can have a good night's sleep. The race was long and hard but worth every minute for a result like this. History in the making and more to come. B

Scott B   November 5th, 2008 12:11 am ET

I am glad that they seemed to have healed their relationship. I have a feeling he is going to offer her some type of job.

A new page has started in the the book of the United States history.

ChrisRay   November 5th, 2008 12:11 am ET

I think Hilary has been graceful in the end. I wish she woulda been the president but I think she's done the right thing by supporting the party,

James Wilkinson   November 5th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Congratulations President-elect Obama. It is long past due for the USA to have a peoples president in place of a corporate president. Good Fortune to you and to the USA.

udderly disgusted   November 5th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Congratulations America, you just elected the Anti Christ to run the country!
Say goodbye to the Constitution and everything our forefathers worked for & believed in and hello to the newest Socialist Republic.
God help us all!
Oh, and by the way – he's not 'African American' or even black, he's what you would've called a zebra and made fun of him for when he was in high school. Hypocrites!

Christy in NYC   November 5th, 2008 12:10 am ET

For me Hillary is a great senator for New York and she has helped the new President Obama immensely with her tiredless campaigning and support. Hillary for me you are and will be an inspiration to many woman in this country

Mike from Bham   November 5th, 2008 12:09 am ET

As a black man from Alabama, tonight is a wonderful night, I live where it all started, never thought I would see the day, but it is here.
God Bless America,

Plumber Joe   November 5th, 2008 12:09 am ET

Windy   November 5th, 2008 12:09 am ET

Thank you Senator Clinton. You've made history.

Tom   November 5th, 2008 12:09 am ET

America has just elected the most unqualified person in its history for President with the help of the main stream media. If he turns out to be worse than Bush can we blame the media just like they let us down leading up to the Iraq War.

CSM   November 5th, 2008 12:09 am ET

Hey, why must we keep showing Jessie Jackson crying? What a good show. I hope God listens to our prayers and helps this country. I can not afford to take of the those who feel we owe them. I barely can survive now taking care of my family.

diva   November 5th, 2008 12:08 am ET

Amen. They can to work together now.

Colin   November 5th, 2008 12:08 am ET

"said he looks forward to speaking with both her and President Clinton soon."

I wonder in what context? A job offer perhaps?

No Hillary = No Obama   November 5th, 2008 12:08 am ET

The day the world witnesses the throngs of people jumping for joy around the world when a woman is elected a President, the way you see this for Obama, will be a true day of history, because it would have been earned and then we can say the world has evolved. How can one victory be celebrated when another was denigrated the way Hillary Clinton was? There is no joy here for Obama.

Susanto Purwo   November 5th, 2008 12:08 am ET

Congratulations to Obama. It is great that you will become President of United States of America!Although we are very far away from you, most of my friends here choose you to become the Presidnet!
I sincerely hope, that Hillary can be used as your new Team as well in the Government!

Griff   November 5th, 2008 12:07 am ET

What have you got to smile about Hillary? Neither you or your Daughter will ever find a Future in Politics again… You destroyed your own Daughters Future, for What???? Your Own Ego???
Sarah Palin will be there next time… You??? Your Daughter????
You should be ashamed of yourself Woman…

Mark   November 5th, 2008 12:07 am ET

The landing and return of men from the moon was once the most historic event in my lifetime. The election of Barak Obama to the presidency of the United States of America trumps that.

Nora L in CA   November 5th, 2008 12:06 am ET

It should have been YOU Hillary making the historic speech on behalf of over half the world and women everywhere.

gary   November 5th, 2008 12:05 am ET

Hillary should be our President right now. I truly hope she will run again. A woman should be our next president. I love her.

patricia   November 5th, 2008 12:05 am ET

It was a good race, I voted for McCain, but I happily accept Obama as our next president.

Lisa in Memphis   November 5th, 2008 12:04 am ET

I wonder if Michelle Obama is proud of America yet?

Griff   November 5th, 2008 12:03 am ET

What do they call that Country, that is just South of Canada? Oh you must mean Mexico… There is nothing worth talking about, between Canada and Mexico…. Free Trade goes on!…
