(CNN) - Early exit polling shows voters expect a post-election tax increase. Forty-nine percent think their taxes will go up no matter who is elected president. Twenty two percent say taxes will go up only if Obama wins. Twelve percent say taxes will go up only if McCain wins. Only 15 percent say their taxes will stay the same or go down.

When are you idiots going to get it straight! The Dems blocked necessary regulations on Fannie Mae which caused this whole mess! Yes there was corruption on Wall Street as well but it started with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac! For God's sake see both sides! We are about to elect the most radical liberal President in our life time! Here is a man that will BEND over when we get attacked! Is this what you all wanted??? And RAISING TAXES WILL NOT CREAT NEW JOB! You morons! Rich people are rich because they earned it! It will not change your life to TAX them more! YOU WILL STILL BE POOR! BUT WITH MORE GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS! God Help us!

mikers   November 4th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Lest we all forget that economic policies are actually created by the legislature thru legislation. Presidents can recommend actions but final policy is stated not by him. Therefore, blame the correct branch of the government for the recent declines in economy and also a worldwide lull in economy

proud army and navy mom   November 4th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

I hear the new American Currency is going to be the Food Stamp........

truthseeker   November 4th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Honestly, only 22% believe their taxes will increase "only if Obama wins?" That's ridiculous. I GUARANTEE that was a democrat sampling! Makes sense on this site, given you haven't even mentioned the DOCUMENTED Black Panther intimidation in Philadelphia. And you wonder why your viewers are leaving.....

Obama Supporter   November 4th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

If people would just sit back and think and stop complaining as much as they due they would realize that everything will increase. Theres nothing to stop it right now the economy is hurting. But let's give Obama a chance for him to at least attempt to give us a solution. Obama haters once you wake up an realize that you as republicans had your chance and failed. Out with the old and in with the new. Think about it as buying a new car. You want the best and most recent model. Let the past go out to pasture.

Both Republicans and Democrats have dug us into a deep black hole. There are a few good guys in Congress, but most of them are career bureaucrats. Given how many problems the government has caused, I'm surprised more people don't throw their support behind candidates who run on a platform of limited government, like Ron Paul or the Libertarians.

***No longer lost in the fog***   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

"Read my lips"...Taxes ALWAYS go up no matter who's in the White House...

BO will raise taxes for everyone   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

End of world is near.. BO will drive country to its knees. Stock up on gold

ClimbRox   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

I have no idea why Obama thinks raising business taxes will be good for economy. He suggested that this was necessary due to tax loop holes. that corporations take advantage of. Why not fix the loop holes instead of suggesting higher taxes as the answer for everything?

THeGAME   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Are you kidding me?

Keep in mind folks, 1 trillion dollars in aid to wall street.

What is the deficit now? 10.5 trillion dollars?

Economy in the crapper..

Everyones taxes are getting raised. Lets just hope its fair. .

a well educated woman   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

that isok by me. The country is in the toilet with the economy, I voted for Obama, and if he changes his mind I am still ok with it.

GJ   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

The Democrats have as much or more created the disasters as the Republicans. They brought down Fannie/Freddie plus haven't done a thing since taking the majority in Congress.

Higher Taxes are Patriotic   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

People know they are going to get taxed and they don't care... Can you say "Thank you sir, may I have another..."?

Until we can get together and realize our votes matter and we can demand politicians use our money wisely and not just as their personal bail outs – we will continue down this road.

We fought the British and founded this great country over taxes and even then there were colonists that did not want to speak up – - -

ray   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

dont blame it all on bush not with a democratic house

Michael Mancini   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Of course taxes will go up. Waaaaay up.

Wake up: the USA is ~10 trillion in debt.

How else are we going to pay for the DEM/REPUB sponsored Mafia-style bust-out of the banking system?

Add a bunch of wealth-distribution programs, fully expected to be another 4-5 trillion, and....

Yes, that's what i call Change We Can Believe In!!!

doug the tech   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Its not about republican democrat anymore. The US better start waking up and start fixing the problem instead of talking about it. Don't care who gets the credit just fix it. Do your job politicians.

jrd   November 4th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

are you kidding? BO has already said he is going to send more troops to Afgan...there will be no cost savings...and just wait until he is forced to go after Iran...

Anonymous   November 4th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Too bad Republicans get the blame for the mess the Democrats left behind after Clinton's reign. You can thank him for the housing crisis we are in now, thinking everyone "deserves" a house.

joe   November 4th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Keep blaming Bush. Soon you will only have the Democrats to blame, then what are you kool-aid drinkers going to do?

Sarah   November 4th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Of course taxes will go up.. How can they not with the administration that has been in the white house for the last 8 years sinking us into record debt.. it's enevitable.

JL   November 4th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

So true. The only difference is McCain will take more from the middle and give it to the rich and Obama will take from the rich and give to the middle.

That's why McCain hates Obama's tax plan. Remember-McCain is a very very wealthy man.

Tameka Vaught   November 4th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Barak obama will not be able to change the world overnight, but he will overtime, with the help of every american. I think this is the best thing that could ever happen to america if he wins.

Cynthia - Arkansas   November 4th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Obama will be a wonderful President. I trust him to do whatever is necessary to save this country from disaster. He is smart and surrounds himself with smart people. If you are rich, too bad for you. You will start paying your fair share. If you don't make much money, you won't pay any more taxes. That simple.

Betty   November 4th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Oh wait..McCain said he would bring down the deficit during his term. Yeah right...

proud army and navy mom   November 4th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Of course taxes will go up under Obama.......Who do you think is going to support thedead beats that voted for him. Here comes redistribution of wealth the Democrat way.

As the dead beat lady said in an interview Obama will help me with food gas and my mortgage. Disgusting

pam from MI.   November 4th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

obviously anyone who thinks obama meant what he said will be disappointed. anyone who has any intelligence knows you can't do everything that he says hes going to do and not raise taxes. What really bothers me is his whole spread the wealth mentality. let them go to school and get a job just like I had to do.

Mr. Norwegian   November 4th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

It's midnight in Norway and I should be in bed, need to get in early at the office tomorrow – but I don't want to go to sleep without an idea of where the U.S. is heading.

I hope I wake up to a U.S. that has discovered a new path. While we wait let me tell you a little about my country:

Our political spectrum begins where your Democrats are and moves left. Since 2005 we have had what some of you would call a socialist government, our finance minister would be labelled a radical Communist. The unemployment rate is currently 1.7%. We have universal free health care and education.

Most Norwegians pay between 20-45% income tax, in addition to all sorts of other taxes and charges. Of course, some of us complain (it's in our nature to complain), but we can see that our money is well spent.

A comment on the much feared word "redistribution":
I am single, healthy and have no children, so my tax money is being "redistributed" to the benefit of others. But the funny thing about "redistribution" is that you never know when you or someone you love will be at the receiving and deserving end.

Last Christmas Eve my 78-year old mother found herself at that end as she suffered a cerebral stroke. After being rushed to the emergency room by the ambulance she was admitted to the state-run local hospital. After many tests that day it was discovered that the cause of the stroke was an irregular heart rythm. Two days later a $20.000,- pacemaker was put in place. She was kept at the hospital for two weeks for observation, all most three weeks in all. The state paid for the private physiotherapy my mother needed to regain strength in her feet.

The cost of all this for her: we don't know. We will never see the bill. My mother is feeling better than she has in many years because of the pacemaker.

Good luck tonight!

Claude   November 4th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

What you don't realise is that when the government keeps spending money and printing money and borrowing money, it is already a tax. Even if you have dollar bills burried in your backyard, they keep getting smaller and smaller. Are you a product of liberal education? Wakeup.

pam from MI.   November 4th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

We have two wars to pay for and a bailout. Who in their right mind would believe taxes will go down....we will be lucky if they stay the same.

Barbara in NC   November 4th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

I'll donate to get us out of debt – IF OBAMA wins.

If McCain steals the election, his wealthy friends can pay.

Obama/Biden '08

What?   November 4th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

What is with that headline? How dare you infer that means people are in bad moods. We have never seen a national debt like this before maybe paying a bit more in taxes could be a good thing.

John Smith   November 4th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Well, give the Republicans 4 more years and you will no longer be talking about "higher taxes," you will be talking about the nation being sold to another wealthy country– perhaps Saudi Arabia! Fools!

Gozy   November 4th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Taxes may or may not increase, but I believe OBAMA will do just fine.

OBAMA BIDEN '08

If people would just inform themselves they would know what to expect with both candidates. The information is easily accessible for those who really want to know.

Hilary   November 4th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

It's to be expected with the enormous amount of debt we're in.

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   November 4th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Think of the money that will be back in American hands when we withdraw from the war in Iraq.

Interesting to note that the number of those who think taxes will go up only when Obama wins is about the same as the the number who still support Bush.

Time will tell.

katiec   November 4th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Well, although Barack Obama will try, do not see how after
the diasters the republicans have created for our country
taxes cannot go up.
They have dug us into a deep black hole that will take a
miracle to survive.
