Obama wins Ohio, CNN projects

(CNN) – Democrat Barack Obama is on target to win the critical battleground state of Ohio, CNN projects.

The projected victory makes it very difficult for Obama's rival John McCain to win the White House. No Republican has ever become president without winning Ohio.

Watch: Obama wins Ohio

Ohio is the first state that went for President Bush in 2004 but flipped to the Democratic column this year. No states that went Democratic in 2004 have yet gone for McCain.

The state's 20 electoral votes would bring Obama's total to 194, versus 69 for McCain. A candidate needs 270 to win.

CNN projections are based on exit polls and partial results.

Thank God I'll not have to hear from Sarah Palin for four years. And to be truthful, I hope she's the front runner for the GOP in 2012, for she'll surely guarantee the Democrats another 4 years. Go on home to Alaska Sarah, your 15 minutes has concluded.

The win for Obama is predicted to win based on mathematical formulas. This election they have been extremely careful about their projections. Even fox is saying the same projections. They are not trying to stop people from going to the polls on the west coast you tard.

Seriously I was proud to be from ohio until tonight. THis is ridiculous!!! Is the majority of this state seriously stupid enough to believe an inexperienced unAmerican liar can give our country what it needs!!??!! This is pitiful!!! I don't consider myself a republican, I was all for getting republicans out of office and electing a democrat until I sw who it was!!! I'm seriously scared of what is going to happen in the next 4 years and hopefully thats all it is and we aren't stupid enough to do this to ourselves again!!!!

M J Christian if your statement is what your christianity is all about, I want nothing to do with it. We the people not filled with hate and the true patriots of this country have just spoken. You are sad and now in the minority. If you and your kind do not change the stay there will be long.

For the person who said "HA! Republicans, you are getting what you deserve! People are seeing right through your lying ways!", what you don't get is that both parties lie...once they are in office, there is no difference between a Republican and Democrat!

if ohio does go to obama – he wins – but you're basing reality on exit polls and partial results...don't count on it just yet
