(CNN) – The polls are too close for CNN to project a winner in six states, including the often-critical battleground of Ohio.

CNN is not currently projecting whether Republican John McCain or Democrat Barack Obama will win Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia or West Virginia.

CHANGE IS NOW! VOTE OBAMA '08!

Tom   November 4th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Medai has such an impact on everything else except what is important. Why can't we stick to the basics. Vote conservative and the government "generally" will spend less which means less out of your pocket. Vote liberal and generally you'll have more taxes, more regulation and less ability to make decisions for yourself. I'm voting Republican. Race, religion, personality really don't matter to me as much.

Hoeslappa   November 4th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

English Teacher   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I should practice what I preach. It's grammar, not grammer ;-)

Wow   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Just because I am not voting for Obama doesn't make me a racist. I don't agree with gay marriage or abortion. That's why he isn't getting my vote..the color of his skin doesn't have a thing to do with it.

Not a racist   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

If Obama losses it proves that he is a bad candidate for Presidency. I would rather make the decision of where my money should be spent not some inexperienced politician with an imaginary idea how to run the best Nation on Earth. Give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a life time. You can't give our hard earned dollars away to people who are not willing to take advantage of being born into a society with many opportunities. If people are going to believe that Obama lost due to racists than those people should pack up and move to Canada.

Jenna   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Just because I didn't vote for Obama doesn't make me racist. And saying you must be racist for not voting for a man because of his skin color is just as bad as only voting for him because of his skin color. Either way I voted for McCain because I serve in the Army and I would rather my battle buddies come home safe and later, than sooner and in a body bag.

English Teacher   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Please use correct grammer and spelling. The polls are "too close to call", not "to close to call".

M   November 4th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

A lot of you keep saying that if Obama loses, it is all because everybody is racist. Has it ever occurred to you that the only way you can get past racism is to quit using it as your excuse for everything. If you let it constantly be your source of blame, then we will never be able to get rid of it! I personally do not support Obama, but that isn't because I am a racist. I just don't like his stance on the issues.

American Voter i have to agree with. Yes there is a racial componet to this race but there will always be people who vote thier own albeit Catholics, Babptist, black, white, whatever. There are still more of us who love Obama for what he stands for, than more of you who hate the color of his skin, so chill out folks, we will be ...I'm sorry I forgot....all Obama haters I 've been at this all day so let's say it together, 1.................2................3.............President Obama, no wdon't you feel good about yourself? Your right this country is still full of racism, you cant blame white americans of racism it is everyone. Black americans that have no sense of what Barack is about will vote for him because he is black, just as well as a white person would vote Mccain. It disgusts me how african americans throw the race card constantly. Im proud to say vote right vote white. I have absolutly no shame in that. Be proud of who you are and where you come from, i proudly say im white.

I don't see how people can just say that if McCain is elected pres. that we live in a racist country. I personally hate the views and concerns of Obama because he isn't prepared to run our country. He needs more time in the senate or the house to be truely ready to run our country. I am a full McCain supporter not because hes white (or Obama being black) but because I love his views for the economy. Don't be ignorantly voting on Obama cause you just want to have our first black president but because you actually like his views. I guess thats too hard to understand for some of the un-educated voters in our country though...

Peter (CA)   November 4th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Obama Supporter-
I already voted for Obama but I caution you to be careful what you say. We cannot turn this election into a one issue race. Some people will vote for McCain because they prefer his stand on abortion or gay marriage, or some other such issue. I can't argue with them on that.

Some will support McCain because they make more than $250K and don't want their taxes to go up. That is their right though I would caution them to think about the future of the country more than just what they need.

Some people are racists. It's obvious, but not all are.

Reading the first comment posted only is proof that if John McCain wins tonight it will be blamed on racism and not the issues. Lets not forget, 90% of all African Americans are voting for Obama. Not because he is a Dem but because he is black. If John Mccain wins tonight I feel sorry for those that have worked so hard in small business because the riots and lootings will begin. By the way, I am a Veteran and African American and I voted for John Mccain.

McCain Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

If Obama loses this thing, it does NOT prove racism. I voted for McCain and I'm no racist. I personally don't believe Obama is qualified to be president or commander-in-chief. John McCain has over 20 years of experience in Washington compared to not quite 4 for Obama. There are too many factors at play and I believe it is wrong to call someone a racist just because they didn't vote for Obama. Get a clue.

JDM   November 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Ooh, bad form to blame racist white people for the outcome of a national election. I am sure that you didn't mean it that way.....so does that make you...wait don't tell me oh wait, I got it ...a racist????

the only reason this is a racist issue is because multi reces are involved. but to say that if obama does not win makes me a racist, shows your ignorence and stupidity. That's amazing. I thought I just was a different mind that the Democratic Party.

That is sad that racism is going to be the word if Obama doesn't win.

Chasman   November 4th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Why do people say that if Obama doesnt win that people are racist? Thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard. It means that people dont agree with him. I, for one, disagree with almost every one of his policy proposals (I do agree on abortion and civil rights). Therefore, I hope he does not win. But, if he does, I will hope that all Americans give him the respect and hope the best for the Senator from Illinois. I sincerely hope that McCain supporters are much more respectful of Obama than Obama supporters are of anyone who isnt buying what Obama is selling. To be called stupid, racist, unenlightened and to "go away for four years"...I thought the whole "change" thing was to rachet down the rancor and mean-spirited attacks. Apparently not.

McCain Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

What i would like to know is why are we racist if Obama losses his race doesn't have anything to do with political beliefs and if i don't agree with them then how does that make me racist? Furthermore you would just be saying the same thing if Hillary was in this race only that the country is sexist instead of racist because she is a woman. So instead of being an ignorant fool on the internet think about what your saying before hand because stupid comments like our country is racist is not needed and furthermore most likely not supported by Obama himself. Whoever wins is our president and blaming it on something none related to politics is juvenile.

C Curiel   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

If the law of attraction is accurate Obama will win. Global polls show that the rest of the world wants Obama to win 4 to 1 in his favor. Good luck Obama!

Tbob   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

I thought this might be an intelligent forum but it is clear that Barrack's promise, and his goals are being clouded by people with color STILL ON the mind.

Ian Berg   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

It's wise to say "too close to call" at this early point in the night. They don't want to repeat the debacle of calling Florida for Gore in 2000 then rescinding it later.

FoolKiller   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Polls "to" close to call in six key states?
Product of a liberal education.
And we should believe what you misspell why?

McCain Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Or it proves that race had nothing to do with the election and this country still doesn't buy into the vague platform of "change" as the new direction of this country. Substance, not race, will determine the outcome. Playing the race card as a reason to vote a certain way or a reason for the outcome is just as racist as not voting for someone for the same reasons.

germanshepherdmom   November 4th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Amberashley   November 4th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

I'm so sick of people using the race, age, and gender cards. That is not at all what this election should be about what's best for this nation as a whole, not what race, gender, or age groups is going to socially benefit from the outcome. Please grow up and learn to think.

McCain Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Tammy D.   November 4th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

If Obama doesn't win, it could be the fact that this election is rigged. I don't believe that so many people would vote for Mccain over Obama. However, I do believe that the Republicans have the power to rigg an election to their benefit.

Wrong, the strong America will unite tonight and vote for who they really want, either Obama or McCain but it won' be swayed by liberal polls!!!!!

Just because someone doesn't vote for Obama does not mean that they are raciest. There are more issues that need to be considered other than race. If a person's race is the only reason we are voting for that person, then we have failed as a country and failed to use our power of voting to its full potential.

I agree, sadly, the only thing McCain has over Obama is the color of his skin.... if Obama were a white man, the race would be pretty close to unanimous.. There may be plenty of racists in the red states to be sure. Red is Republican and Red is for hate. Fear is the Republican way. But there are plenty of whites like myself that voted for Obama today here in California. I wonder how many people of color voted for discriminating

I would easily vote for a black President... if I agreed with that person's place on the issues. I disagree with Obama on health care, on abortion, and on many other issues. I am voting based on issues.. not on color. How about all the blacks... voting for Obama ONLY because he's black without even knowing where he stands on the issue.... are they racist against whites in your mind? I do not trust Obama. There fore, I voted against him. McCain is not Bush... It's going to take more then 4 years to Fix America.. no matter who wins. All we can do is wait... and hope for the best, no matter who our leader is.

Obama Supporter, that is completely ignorant. People will vote for McCain based off of the issues, not his race. There will be exceptions, but they'll be the minority. Sounds like you are supporting Obama based purely on race. That's terrible.

Fatalis   November 4th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Wait, wait, wait, if we didn't vote for Obama we're both white and racist? I happen to be neither, and I voted McCain because I'm also not a socialist with the desire to throw this nation into a depression.

People are racist for not supporting Obama?   November 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Actually, if he "looses this thing," it has nothing to do with "racist whites" in this country. It would have much more to do with people who are smart enough to sort through his false rhetoric about the economy. This bad economy has nothing to do with Bush loosening regulation of Wall Street. In fact, the SEC regulations originated during the Clinton years, and Bush, typical of him, sat on his behind and did nothing. The real blame lies at the feet of those politicians who forced banks to give loans to people who were such risky borrowers that banks would otherwise refuse them loans. When gas prices rose and defaults followed, the economic hen came home to roost - in Barney Frank's and Barack Obama's yard. It's ironic that an economic crisis might propel Obama into office. It's the one area that is least qualified to handle.

There are other reasons besides race that cause people to vote.

OBAMA SUPPORTER   November 4th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Not only that, it proves that dirty politics is what America stands for. The ignorance of people not voting for Obama because of B.S., i.e., he is an Muslim, the Anti-Christ, a terrorist, not a naturalized citizen. It proves that facts no longer win elections, ignorance, naiveness, and implanting fear in our brains does. Our country will suffer badly if McCain/Palin wins this election!

If Alan Keyes or Al Sharpton ran for president I wouldn't vote for them, and it isn't because they're black.

I support Obama, but honestly if you want to help stop racism, you need to stop pulling the race card, it will hurt your chances at getting rid of racism more than it will help them. Believe it or not, some people don't want Obama in just because they don't agree with his policies, black or white.

Gopal Sengupta   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

We are always paid for our suspicion by finding what we suspect. Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, never can bring about a reform. Those who are really in earnest must be willing to be anything or nothing in the world's estimation, and publicly and privately, in season and out, avow their sympathy with despised and persecuted ideas and their advocates, and bear the consequences.

In a day with an unprecedented level of global attention, the United States of America elects its 44th president. So much has been written about it if there is no last-minute surprise, I am betting on Obama.
He has done everything right in his campaign – coming across as calm, intelligent and presidential, whereas McCain has been erratic, impulsive and (in his choice of the woefully undercooked Sarah Palin as his running mate) irresponsible. If Obama were white, this would not even be a close contest. If he loses despite having run the most impressive presidential campaign in recent Democratic memory, will it mean that the candidate of change has been defeated by the one thing he cannot change – the colour of his skin??

I voted for OBAMA and am very proud of it!!!!!
I hope I wake up in the Morning and he is president....

Praying for the nation   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Voting for McCain does not reflect racism, but rather care for the national economy and a financial structure that is not reflective of socialism. Voting for McCain is also a vote against infanticide of children of all races.

Anonymous   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Maybe some people think experience is what makes a good leader, not charisma.

McCain Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

If Obama loses, that does not mean that Americs is full of racists. I think that people should just forget the fact that he's half black. It makes no difference and I don't think that someone would vote for McCain just because he is white if they disagree with his views. This election has nothing to do with the color of skin, and if people really think it does, than they really don't know enough about our country, now do they?

If Obama loses it just proves that God is still incontrol of this nation.

George W. Bush is God?

Cody M.   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

So if an African-American votes for the African-American candidate it is because they believe in the policies of the individual but if a white voter votes for the white candidate it is because he is a racist?

Boye   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Could me just stop with all the racist crap? It isn't going to do us any good right now. Anyways, here's hoping Obama does win.

Traci Wehbe   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Lifelong democrat.....but may the best man win...God Bless us and God bless the United States of America...we are Obama supporters and we trust he will make the right choices for us and our children....but we as Americans must learn to make our own way and work hard for ourselves and our childrens future...I know we can do it

dwelch   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Should read: Too Close to Call...

spelling and grammar police   November 4th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Too, not to

If Obama Wins it proves that the Democrats are as corrupt as I have always suspected

christine   November 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

shouldn't that read "too close to call"? I suppose CNN doesn't have time to get things right – they just have to be first.

WHEN IT COMES TO POLITICS, I DON'T TRUST ANYTHING. I JUST HOPE WE CAN HAVE AN ELECTION WITHOUT IT BECOMING A HISTORY MAKING DISASTER.

LK   November 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Wow, only 4 comments and an Obama supported already pulled the race card. Gotta love that even if someone doesn't vote for Obama because we disagree with his policies, its not *actually* because of that, its because we're racist.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Racism still exists in places in this country only because people on BOTH sides refuse to let go.

another Obama supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Dude, chill. everthing's going to be FINE.

Logic   November 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Or, shockingly, it means they disagree with Obama's policies.

Anonymous   November 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

isn't it "too" close to call?

Frog Lover   November 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

When Obama wins will you all just go away for four yeaes please.

Alice   November 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Do you think your projections have any effect on the Western states that have polls still open?

Jay   November 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

The fact that some of these states are too close to call at this time is a VERY good sign for Obama.
Obama 08 TIME FOR CHANGE!!!!!!

Concerned Teen, Ga   November 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

I'm seriously worried. Why in the heck is John McCain up in the polls? I know the earlier polls that were taken don't matter but still! What's going to happen? Its all up in the air. I hope Obama wins, I really do!

nHASHARA   November 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

I HOPE OBAMA WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS AN OBAMANATION

GreenEyes   November 4th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

I love the fact that traditionally Republican states are "too close to call". Even if Obama doesn't win said states, the fact that HE caused them to be TCTC says it all. GO OBAMA! from a non-racist never raised that way Texan!

Tiaunia   November 4th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Tell us when you do know!! OMG!

KT   November 4th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

CNN editor, we know you're busy with this election's news, but please check your spelling. The title should read, "Polls too close to call......"

Obama Supporter   November 4th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

If Obama looses this thing it proves that there are just as many racist whites in this country as I always suspected. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. These people will have to live with the fact that they elected a bad economy and George Bush for a third term.

Em   November 4th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Um, please fix the grammatical error in the title of this article. Thank you.
