Virginia voters faced rainy weather early Tuesday morning while waiting to vote.

(CNN) – Some voting machines are not working properly in Chesapeake, Virginia because of wet weather, according to voters and the State Board of Elections. Spokesman Ryan Enright confirmed the rain is throwing a wrench in the works in a few places that use optical-scan paper ballots.

He said ballots were getting soaked as water drips off wet voters walking into polling stations. That makes the scanner unable to read a ballot.

The Virginia State Board of Elections is encouraging all voters to dry off before filing out ballots to avoid problems.

And to solve the problem of wet ballots, the polling station is collecting them in a secure container next to the polling machine. Once dried, these ballots will be tabulated by officials, Enright said.

He added that while this will mean a longer processing time for election officials, it should not affect voters and their wait time.

You socialists are funny. I guess the Republicans made it rain, so this is obviously their fault.
Republican poll watchers being thrown out in Philadelphia, is stealing an election. Hillary Clinton campaigning within a polling station, is stealing an election. An act of God, and moronic people not drying off their hands before grabbing a piece of paper, is not stealing an election
You people are ridiculous.

Ryon   November 4th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Republican or Democrat, take a minute to stop jabbing at each other and remember we are all americans. Difference in opinions clouds you from remembering we're all trying to obtain the same goal of a better America. Instead of looking at this as one party trying to sabotage another, how about we think productively of ways to prevent it from happening in the future. Our country is a leader and technology and it's ridiculous that we still struggle to create a more convenient and efficient voting platform.

Wendy,KS   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

The world is watching please let the RIGHT PERSON win this election fair and square. We have been cheated twice in the last 8 years. Please don't let this happen again for I fear for my country if it does.

Chris   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

I'm so glad I don't have to do this today. I voted in Utah on October 21.

DONT TAX ME BRO!!!

Nate   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

If the media is not supporting a right wing agenda then it's liberal? Come on Don and Noah. Look Palin may have been cleared of guilt, but that does not mean she is not guilty. Listen to the phone call man, she's guilty! So how did you feel about the Rep Party spending your hard earned contributions on a fashion show for Palin? That doesn't make you think about how they will treat your tax money? Also CNN is not liberal trust me! Just yesterday they gave some fat security guard lady who was a McCain support and very poorly informed, just as much T.V. time as they have for any Obama supporter. She was worried she would have her wealth spread around? LOL! Do security guards make over 200,000 a year? I think not! She needs to be more concerned with how her hips are "spreading around"! Get real ppl! Open your eyes, and for god sake quit rambling on with this propaganda that your have been silver spoon feed by the same ppl that would put you on the street begging for change in second.

joni   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Nothing suprises me anymore. The REP will do whatever it takes to win an election. We need change and change is not McBush. People stay the course and vote!

Ferd Berfall, do you really say "losers" like that? I'd love to hear you say it, just once.

Xanda   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Noah: I actually saw the trooper gate article right here last night on the front page of CNN's website under the Ticker. It's sad that you are so bitter about this election, hopefully you will come to see the light once Obama is elected.

Greg   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Noah said "I am waiting for CNN to post on its front page the news that Sarah Palin was cleared of any wrong doing in the Troopergate investigation. You liberals trashed her and made sure that Troopergate was on the front page of every liberal website when it looked like she may have done something wrong."

I read the story on both CNN and Fox earlier. If there was an all-powerful left-wing conspiracy, could President Bush have won office... twice? Would the Republicans have held both houses of Congress for 6 years? Also, do you remember the media circus around Bill Clinton during his presidency (Monica Lewinski ring a bell?)

Think, man.

Calen from Richmond   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Dear "Barbara – 65 yr old white female in NC":

Please get a grip. The Republicans are not "stealing" anything. Don't act like one party controls the polls, that's ludicrous. There are problems with ballots all across VA this morning.

I have a laundry list of polling places with most of their machines broken down already this morning. A sad state of affairs.

mike   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Noah said,

"I am waiting for CNN to post on its front page the news that Sarah Palin was cleared of any wrong doing in the Troopergate investigation. You liberals trashed her and made sure that Troopergate was on the front page of every liberal website when it looked like she may have done something wrong, and now that it has been proven she did NOTHING wrong, you cannot find the story anywhere. It has become such a sad state of affairs. Liberals are working overtime to ruin this country."

You must be a moron to think that an investigation that took every bit of 5 months for the "REAL" investigators to reach a conclusion, could be reversed by a "Special Investigator" (McSame cover-upper) who ate a sandwich in between a commercial break for FOX NEWS to reach a conclusion. Oh, by the way, it was conveniently released the day before the election. This is a farce and you would have to be an idiot to believe this right-wing conclusion.

Adriane   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

I just voted here and not everyone is using paper ballots. They had did an amazingly good job in Virginia Beach, keeping us out of the rain and moving the lines along. Additionally, water had no effect because they use touch screen ballots on many polling stations. The enviroment was non-partisan and it restored my faith that we can finally have a fair election. From the turnout I saw, Obama will take Virginia.

Steve   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

The Republicans are trying to steal the election? Please!!!! Why didn't the military ballots get sent out in a timely manner?

Valerie   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

I don't see how Sarah was cleared she still misappropriated funds by letting the state pay for her family's travel. I commend her for given her family the experience but she should have paid for it.

VA is Blue!   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Stop crying! The GOP is handing out literature at polls in South Western VA!! You can't cry foul when you're own people are out here doing the same!! Its happening at a CHURCH in Concord, VA a town 10 minutes away from Lynchburg, Va home of the infamous conservative Jerry Falwell! They aren't even reporting it here~

Paul   November 4th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Noah, did you happen to mention that the "new" report was prepared by Sarah Palins office?

Stan   November 4th, 2008 10:57 am ET

Maybe we have to go ask the Iraqis how to run a democratic election. Afterall, didn't the current administration tout how successful theirs was? And hasn't this country proven an inexplicable inability to successfully complete the simple task of COUNTING!

Jon   November 4th, 2008 10:57 am ET

It's official! The Repugs are STEALING the election!!! Everyone knows blacks wil suffer most under these conditions because the rain will just roll off their oily, nappy heads.

Go Obama!!!

Rocky watching from Scotland   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

It seems as though CNN and other liberal news media are quite willing to present to the public a rendition of the news that is anti-conservative. Anything that will shed a bad light upon the values through which this country was founded seems to be the "in" thing. If Obama was to commit a blatant felony, I'm sure the media of which I am speaking would somehow gloss it over as something much less than what it was. Sorry folks, the course liberal journalism has taken and will probably continue has led me to the point of not believing 90% of what is published or broadcast.

Dr. Narendra Patel   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Obama ! Obama ! Obama !

Dwight   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

I voted this morning in VA. It was raining with long lines you stand in the rain beore you get inside the bldg to vote. Onne chedked in you are given your ballot and sent to the voting booth. If you then let the ballot rub up against your wet umbrella or clothes, its gets wet. They warned the people not to do it but they do it but to no avail. Oddly enough, the water is not discriminating against blacks or whites. It just wets the ballots and scanner can't read it or some were so wet they would not even feed into the maching. Is not the election officicals, the one in charge was black by the way, it is the voters.

Vic of New York   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Wasn't it Virginia that kept saying – "We don't expect any problems?" I guess you can toss that into the bucket of: "Famous last words"!

Go Tim Pollenti! The Republican Governor and VP hopeful sure knows how to prepare for an election!

I can't believe any liberal would have the nerve to use the phrase "Republican hijinx" in regard to voting integrity when they are voting for a shady Chicago politician who's married to ACORN...

On second though, I do believe it.. Many of them can't think for themselves, & just repeat the talking points of others.

Someday a Blue ND   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

raining in GA too   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Common sense says to bring your own towel to dry off if you are standing in the rain, or take off your jacket before voting. Come on people, this is stupid if you can't figure out how to dry yourself off.

Gene, RichmondVA   November 4th, 2008 10:56 am ET

I voted this morning with no problems. Yes it was raining but the problem once again is the people filling out the ballots are a bunch of baffoons. They can not read the note at the top of the ballot it says" DO NOT FOLD AND FILL IN CHOICE CIRCLE COMPLETELY". Another attempt by the Left Wing Media to Cry foul. Vote NOBAMA and keep your change!

To Noah – This is exactly why liberals think that republicans are idiots because of comments like this. First off, in what way was Palin vindicated in Alaska? By her own investigation only? Maybe you should actually read the report before talking "FINDING ONE
Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. That states: "Each public officer holds office as a public trust and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest though official action is a violation of that trust." Tell me again how is this being cleared of any wrongdoing? Final point I have is the whole "Liberals are working overtime to ruin this country." comment. This is ridiculous to think that there are actually Americans are aren't as patriotic as you or are working to ruin the country. This is just fearmongering by the uneducated, read something other than Drudge and foxnews.com and come back here with something educated to say...

Josh in NH   November 4th, 2008 10:55 am ET

McCain-Palin!

Madison   November 4th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Noah...did you know that the members of committee that cleared Palin of any wrong doing in Troopergate were mostly APPOINTED BY HER!

The REAL investigation already concluded that she abused her power. And just an FYI – the people that concluded this were 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Partisan politics, yes, absolutely, but IN HER FAVOR and they still found her GUILTY!

This is why I always carry my hair dryer with me on voting day...
Stacy...did I see you this morning at the polls?

Catherine Miller   November 4th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Here we are at election day again and once again we are hearing reports of voter fraud, delays at the polls, voter machine difficulties and voter registration issues.

I can think of nothing more important in a democracy than ensuring the right of it's citizens to vote. It is hard to believe that the nation that put a man on the moon before anyone else has difficulty figuring out how to make sure each citizen is entitled to a vote. These are reports we expect to hear from third world nations, not the United States of America. I can also imagine nothing more demoralizing to the electorate than the fear their government does not care, does not listen and does not guarantee participation.

With this in mind, I believe until there are severe consequences for those districts that continue to have diffulties running a fair and timely election day, I believe this tragedy will continue.

I would suggest introducing legislation dictating any district which is unable to run a seamless, fair election day should be immediately denied federal funding, If you are unable to dedicate enough resources to print a fair ballot, have an adequate number of machines and volunteers and update your voting roles, you simply do not deserve to receive federal funding.

Perhaps also there should be a national hotline to report voter difficulties and register a formal compaint. This hotline should be advertised at every polling place and printed on all voter registration materials. Any district receiving complaints equaling 3% or more of its registered voters complaining, would be put under review for denial of federal funding. The review process should also be pro-active and not just punitive in that there should be federal consultants available to help violators review their election procedures to bring them up to a national standard.

I believe it is imperative to address this issue before one more election day in this country demoralizes its citizens. I hope you will agree with me that this issue is of greater importance than any other issue facing the future of our democracy. I urge you to take a role in advocating for reform.

Richmond Voter   November 4th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Don, and his like-minded fellow koolaide-drinking spew-nonsense-to-the- end [R]s, have turds for brains. I hope their self-imposed "suffering" over the next 4 years is intense; they deserve every bit of anxiety they can muster within themselves over a [D] president AND congress. And just think, by electing G. Bush and his [R] lemmings to Congress between 2000 and 2006, Don and his buddies have set the bar so low for future judgements of success, the [D]s can't help but be successful.

Then WHY don't you complainers volunteer to work the polls? It is hard work and – clearly – thankless. If you think elections are "stolen" why not work an election for once and watch how it is done; and what jerks one's fellow citizens are. But it is all about YOU and YOUR pontificating about how brioke the system is. You blogg and blogg on here, but don't lift one finger to help. Don't blame the "election system" or "poll workers" or that this system is a "joke". YOU complainers, consparcy theorist, etc are the joke! Why not shut up and volunteer your precious time – oh, thats right, your too important, let someone else work the polls all day so you can stary b******g as soon as the votes are tallied and your candidate loses, alleging wild theories of voter fraud, etc. YOU ARE THE REASON THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN.

Newsflash!....where have you been the last 2-3 months. This country was ruined long before this election began!!! And by the way, CNN did publish the story about both Troopergate and Sarah Palin's medical records. But at this point, who really cares as Sarah has done her own damage to her own name the moment she accepted the VP candidacy.

Democrates and their scheming will never end. The liberals make our voting process look like a 3rd world election. Do I hear it for the hanging chad? Or will this VA instance be, "The wet Chad?"

VA   November 4th, 2008 10:52 am ET

The ballots are not wet to begin with people! Republicans cannot make it rain!! Give me a break! There wouldn't be a problem if people would be smart and dry off. Or should Republicans be over there to dry off everyone since they made it rain with a dance. Stop pointing fingers people!

Linda Braun   November 4th, 2008 10:52 am ET

The Personnel Board that cleared Palin this time around was APPOINTED BY HER! Of course they cleared her!

Michelle   November 4th, 2008 10:52 am ET

The wet weather should have been in the plans. There should have been a plan to correctly such problems that may occur before they happen. This is just more BS to avoid a win for the Obama camp.

Lauren from Texas and living in VA   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

You people commenting on this story make me sick! The Republicans did not force it to rain. How is rain and wet drops on some ballots a republican tactic to steal the election? It isn't! All it is is rain! I am sorry that rain typically signifies a larger republican lead, but you cannot blame that on the Republican's trying to steal the election. The polling places are not run by the parties anyways, they are run by the state voting commission which is made up of both parties. If you want to say someone is stealing the election it is the people working for the voting commission.

This election has been riddled with scare tactics. The Republican's are not rigging an election. There is no bad intent to the rain, it is simply rain.

Joe   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

OMG! My ballot has TEXT on it!

Maureen   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

I am fairly certain it was probably registered republicans that sent flyers to everyone in a Virginia community telling republicans to vote tuesday and democrats to vote wednesday. Maybe jumping on the already teeming liberal media bandwagon isn't the smartest move.

Dewey Goode   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Barbara – 65 yr old white female in NC .. you're an idiot and a perfect example of the furthing of dividing the people in this country. I guess you have inside information that Republicans are in good with God and had him rain on these folks.. and only in Va.

Get your head out of your rear end and join the human race.

Shaun   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Noah, Palin was not cleared of wrongdoing by the bi-partisan legislative investigation, in fact she was found to have violated ethics rules. This 'clearing' she received was from a 3 person personnel board made of people who serve at her whim. What it is, is a biased manipulation that is trying to confuse and deceive voters, and clearly from your comments it has worked to some degree. I suggest you research a little more next time, b/c allegations of 'liberals' this and that just make you sound ignorant.

stephanie   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

I predict riots if this is stolen again. Americans can't even trust that their vote is safe. So what were those thousands of deaths in the 1800s for? come on people. let americans make a true choice.

Marco from Montreal   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

If Rove says it, it must be true! Why is there always some big drama and really suspicious behavior in the voting process on each election day? I haven't been to the states since 8 years. Hopefully I will be able to stop this boycott once the GOP are out of there for a little while.

Robert   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

OK OK now. I'm voting for Obama, but did you people read. Water is dripping off of wet people. They are not being handed wet ballots. It makes sense that a machine that scans dry ballots might have difficulty reading a wet one. I don't think it is a fix.

Liberal   November 4th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Boo Hoo the media is so liberal and unfair wah wah.

Give it a rest, you election stealing, dimpled chad rejecting, lipstick wearing war pigs. I've had about enough of your bellyaching.

If Sarah Palin didn't want to be opened up to criticism, then she should stick to her PTA meetings and her Todd Palin shadow governorship.

I'd normally be inclined to be a little nicer, but CNN won't post this anyway.

Millions out of work, the economy in the sewer, everyone hates us (except maybe China – we owe them billions of dollars and import their melamine tainted food and products). As far as Troopergate – the election today is much more important. Most of America knows Palin is a right-wing nut radical and can't be trusted anyway.

All you idiots that vote for him will pay dearly for your stupidity..When gas is $10 Gallon, December electric bills over $300 dollars because coal industry destroyed, unemployment over 10% and your minimum wage job gone......be carefull what you wish for, you might get it....LOSSSSSSSERS....

Jeff4rey   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

.I'm not voting for either of the major candidates so it's very interesting to see the high tension tactics coming from conservative talk shows and their listeners. The level of exaggeration challenges their credibility and stifles open thought and conversation.
They are desperate and lying to themselves if they believe most of what they are saying

BradAllen   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

John in Ohio...........................your a Pinhead.

Lynne Danley   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Everyone should do it like we do in Oregon. Our ballots are mailed in under a tightly controlled process. No lines, no going out in bad weather, no leaving work or the kids, no hanging chads or polling place/voter irregularities. It makes so much sense I wonder everyone doesn't do it!

tom   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

This is where my precinct is.

Melissa from Virginia   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Its amazing to see how angry the right-wingers are knowing they are probably going to lose this election. Turn Virginia blue!!!!

Roberto Antonio   November 4th, 2008 10:50 am ET

The republicans are trying to steal the elections??????

Lets think about that comment…… first the Democrats refuse to enforce a photo ID to verify the identity of the voter, and right after we have ACRON registering hundred of thousands of illegal voters. THINK!!!

brian   November 4th, 2008 10:49 am ET

Noah – look at the NY Times homepage.

Raquel   November 4th, 2008 10:49 am ET

I'm sick of the way things are going, Republicans won't steal my joy! OBAMA 08!

scarlette ballard   November 4th, 2008 10:49 am ET

We can see corruption when it comes in the form of wet ballots. That is what happened in Florida when the popular vote did not matter and we got stuck with Bush. Whats next republicans? History repeating itself? We don't buy it. Barrack the vote

jeff   November 4th, 2008 10:48 am ET

i cant believe you stupid republics are calling everything liberal media...think of this fox news is always saying false things about obama because they are the most bias media out there. There will be false comments and other things on both sides get over it and stop complaining. If you want to complain then complain about mccain being a racist running a racist campaign. I cant see how anyone can support mccain when his own party doesnt support him. All i have to say is think before you vote

Steve - Richmond, VA   November 4th, 2008 10:48 am ET

Yes blame the Republicans of "stealing" the Virginia election because of the rain!!

SUSAN WALLACE   November 4th, 2008 10:48 am ET

I live in Chesapeake Va. I stood in line for 3 hours in the rain. A towel would not have been enough for the 100's of up out there. We were young old and black and white. The lady holding the umbrella for me was voting for McCain and I for Obama. We are all out there together. So really it was not the media or the machines.

PUCK615 in Maryland   November 4th, 2008 10:48 am ET

VOTE!

! Get out there and exercise your God-given privilege as a U.S. citizen !

VOTE!!

We, all the citizens of the United States of America, thank you.

VOTE!!!

Charleen James   November 4th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Not this time! God Bless America!

mark   November 4th, 2008 10:47 am ET

What did the republicans make it rain?? How are they responsible for the wet ballot causing problems. You have to love Obama supporters no brain idiots. Yes it is a conspiracy republicans control the weather!!! Bush must be making it rain!!

Ian Woo   November 4th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Hey Noah, it was on the front page of cnn.com earlier today. Now shut up.

1 For Obama in VA   November 4th, 2008 10:47 am ET

I just voted in Chesapeake, VA on an electronic touch screen machine. Why couldn't they have this available for all voting stations. There is no need to have paper ballets, now when everything is done by computer. This is suspect. Let's stop the trickery, and grow up. Don't steal this one...may the best man win!!

Obama '08

Obama all the way....   November 4th, 2008 10:47 am ET

As if we weren't the laughing stock of the world for the last 8 years based on our last President- we are surely the laughing stock today knowing that the biggest proponent of democracy in the world-can't even get their own voting system to work correctly!!!

What a joke!

Bourne   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I voted in the Larchmont section of Norfolk, VA this morning and a few stations had to be rebooted and paper ballots issued...I hope there aren't any problems to arise from that.

Republican and proud of it   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

@ John in Ohio:

That's right, Republicans can make it rain. Grow up.

bruce   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

unbelievable...in this country we cannot figure out how to make the voting process work.
We either ned to go to paper ballots, or go back to the old fashioned lever machines. I am 54 years ond never rememeber having issues with the count of the old type machines.
Funny though that all the voting issues are in swing states that mccain needs...
do not give up wait and vote..

Jas87   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I find it ridiculously hard to believe that America, one of the most technologically advanced and intellectually gifted nations of the world STILL cannot get it right when it comes to voting!! Soaking wet ballots? Give me a break! Penguins in Antarctica would have less problems voting.

Alex   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I guess the republicans made it rain too....Come on people, quit whining!

Jarrid   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Here we go again. Voting problems at the polls. Looks like they are trying to steal it again. I predict were are going to see this happen in more states. Not just Virginia...

ouch   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Ouch

Michelle   November 4th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I live in Chesapeake and its a sad thing that the Republicans in this state are that hard pressed for votes. This is Florida all over again. OBAMA/BIDEN 2008. Lets get it!!!!

Kathy Virginia Beach VA   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

I got in line at 5:35 in the pouring rain, and finally voted at 7:00..other people I work with waited 3 hours in line. The weather isn't discouraging people here. I wouldn't want to see how long the lines will be at 5:00pm.

Joy   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Hmm. While Sarah Palin may not have done anything illegal, she did behave in an unethical manner. So she was not totally cleared of any wrong doing.

Anonymous   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Ouch

Tracey   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

I agree! demand a dry ballot....and since there is problems at the polls... extend the hrs.....

Joseph   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Yeah she was cleared by a panel appointed by her predeccesor, the bipartisan panel found her guilty of ethics violations, it doesnt matter we have all come to our conclusion about sarah palin and its a vast majority a negative opinion.

Vito from Canada   November 4th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Is it really that hard to make a working voting machine? This is the country that sent people to the moon almost FORTY years ago. Maybe it'd be easier if you stick with scantrons, or even better, paper ballots.

Maybelline   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Sometimes I wish all of VA were like Northern VA - GO OBAMA!!

Jeff   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

the line must be moving npretty fast in this polling place to have ballot in hand even before you dry off - WOW - not what we are hearing from every other place in the country!

Saint Genesius   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

This is idiotic –a paper ballot and a number two pencil is foolproof technology. Shoot, stick an eraser on the pencil and you have an automatic undo button if someone makes a mistake.

Is this so hard to understand?

Oh, wait, but that would mean the GOP would have to hand erase all those ballots to steal an election and the voting machine companies would not be able to donate millions of dollars to GOP candidates.

Never mind.

Dollarbillz   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

They should throw out the state of Virgina since there are so many problems going on. Elementary schools can run a better voting system when little kids run for president, vice president, etc... Why is it so complicated for the Adults. I guess we can learn better from kids sometimes!!

Steve   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

hmmmm Democrat or Republican watch out for the wet ballot

In response to Noah   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Before you go and defend Sarah Palin please understand that the board that 'cleared' her of wrong doing was one that she chose to have take up the matter. Ironically, the board that was created by Alaska's bipartisan legislature saw things differently.

Danielle   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

I have family that away, and not to long ago people got fliers saying Go white don't go for Obama and they called the FBI in and everything... So I'm really not shocked that something like this has happened....

OBAMA ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Nick   November 4th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Barbara – Who's trying to steal Virginia? Virginia is traditionally a republican state. If anyone is trying to "Steal" it, its the Dems. unfortunately, corruption is rampant on both sides, and any fair-minded individual knows that. Remember the dems handing out cigarettes to homeless people in 2000 to get them to vote. What about ACORN? Pathetic. To pretend like its one-sided is at best – naive, and at worst – partisan, divisive, and ignorant. Wake up people.

charles   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

@Noah,
Actually, I read about that right here, yesterday. They posted the finding immediately. Now, keep in mind that the bipartisan legislative committee found her actions unethical and it was a three person appointed board (two appointed by Palin herself), that did not find problems with her conduct. I will take the bipartisan finding over the partisan one any day, any issue

ac   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

That is ridiculous. I do not understand why a country that can send men to the moon cannot hold a fair election. Truly pathetic. And the republicans will stop at nothing to suppress votes.

Joanna   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Yes, there are problems with our voting system, and I think it would be better if we could standardize the system and ensure that there is more trained staff to help things run smoothly.

But, as with anything, when millions of people are involved, there are bound to be some mistakes. I wish people would not overreact with crazy accusations like "Republicans are trying to fix the election!" or "The liberal media made it RAIN so the ballots would get ruined!" Please, chill out and be rational.

Andrew   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Why would a story about Palin being found to not abuse her power as governor replace any bit of Election Day coverage? The American people don't care about Troopergate right now dunce, the polls are open and they are busy voting. I think the obsession with the misdeeds and biased reporting of the media can take a back seat today when people are actually casting votes–but then again, I guess it's never too early to start making excuses if your guy doesn't win.

Hillary supporter for obama   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

What Mccain and his aides don't realize is that this "organizer" has organized the tightest political machine ever and he started months and months ago not weeks ago!!!

Obama knew from the beginning that theonly way he would have a chance was to get more democrats to vote than has been the case in recent years... just the shear numbers will get him in! and he has known this for a very long time! He's a great strategist! He's a great mobilizer! he's a great inspirator! Amd most of all he's a great UNITER!

Obama the next President of the "UNITED" States of America!

jAYjAY   November 4th, 2008 10:43 am ET

the power of the dems is votor registration & turnout

the power of the GOP is votor supression,
so now is when all the tricks are flipping

this will be a long night

Kim   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

It's ridiculous!

The system should be the same for everyone, across the country. More polling stations to reduce the lineups, paper ballots and a pencil. Cripes! Why does this have to be so difficult?

Obama '08!!

50 states blue, 2008   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Troopergate investigation

Hmmmm, let's see....these are people who would be reporting to her when she losses this election and heads back to Moose town. Of course they are going to clear her from any wrong doing...otherwise, they are canned Mr.Noah which means, they WILL GET FIRED!. Makes sense....Think outside of the box, do not be narrow minded...

Ryan, Richmond, Va   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

We should "expect" someone to give us a towel before we vote to dry off because we are turning socialistic and need someone to give us everything rather then doing it ourselves.

Hawk   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Republicans are very humorous with the blame shifting when it comes to the reason why they will lose the election.

redhead from Toronto   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Gov. Kaine of Virginia – I thought you were supporting Barack Obama, what on earth are you doing about this mess? DO SOMETHING NOW.Make Virginia proud of you, this should not be happening. VOTERS, guard your vote with your life, insist on being heard no matter what, IT IS YOUR RIGHT. GO for it. Thank you.

Tory   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

canicallyoujoe,

Q:what exactly happened twice? t
A: that the silent majority the liberal biased media does not tell you about voted?

I am hoping it happens a third time.
McCain /Palin

male in NC   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

wet ballots, how hard is it to keep them dry when polling takes place inside where it's dry? maybe someone should call joe the plumer to clean up the mess.

Jerry   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

liberals dont need to "work overtime to ruin this country"...the republicans and their ineptitude have already done the best at ruining the country. now the liberals have to step in and clean up their mess. The conservatives have controlled the media during the last 8 years of the bush "regime"...so dont now act like the media is only on the liberals side. It goes both ways.

Paul, Europe   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

From over here it's very clear what's going on.. and it's Disgusting!
The "Democatic" leader of the world will yet again have another fixed election.. Misleading robo calls, Machine Breakdowns! Our news channels are comparing it to 2000, and 2004.. God help the Republican Party if they steal this one too!

Elections are easy.. Ballot, Mark it, Count it!! What do you need scanners and stupid machines for? Fraud.. thats what!

Herdine   November 4th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Noah, the conservatives already ruined the country.

Nader = Change   November 4th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Until we clear out the two Corporate Parties, "incidents" like this will always happen.

Nader= Change

Joe in Canada but Close to Michigan   November 4th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Please don't make me cross the border to drive people to vote. Help your neighbors! I voted in the Canadian election and our politics are boring. This is the biggest deal ever just do it up!

spread the wealth   November 4th, 2008 10:41 am ET

It is pouring down here in VA. We went into the polling place and everything is soaking wet! I don't know how anyone thinks the R-lettered people made it rain, but I guess the liberal media will tell everyone that the R's are responsible for it and the stupid D people will believe it. I voted "L" so it doesn't matter either way to me...socialism has already taken over all my freedoms.

Citizen   November 4th, 2008 10:41 am ET

The Election is already stolen. Replicans know what exactly is going. McCain said and knew he had it already. It is going to be the worst disaster for us

Eva Harrison   November 4th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I think it is entirely ignorant to say that we have "morons" running the elections in the country. The voter registrars' offices are extremely understaffed along with there being a shortage of election officials in polling places. The registrar's work tirelessly for months leading up to elections. There are errors to be expected. With the over 140,000 newly registered voters, lines are bound to be long.

Kathy from VA   November 4th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Technology, phewy. Whatever happened to the good old fashioned paper ballots?

Republicans up to no good...why? VA is traditionally a Republican state...they don't have to. If anything, it's Democrats being desperate.

NO to Obama...we don't need a Socialist in the White House!!

Johnsole   November 4th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Americans as a group take no personal responsibility. For pete's sake how simple is it to make an effort dry yourself off before you drag your wet arm, hand, or belongings across all ofthe ballots. Come on people!

John in VA   November 4th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Blaming the Republican party for the weather is why it is so hard for this independent to vote for a Democrat. Those votes will get counted manually – like they were for more than a hundred years.

ran   November 4th, 2008 10:39 am ET

And it begins. People vote and in such #'s that there will be no doubt Obama/Biden has won. We do not want this election decided by a Republican leaning Supreme court.

For the free press: get out there and make sure this is a fair election for us all.

Terry, Lakeland Florida   November 4th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Don't trust anyone – demand a dry ballot and guard it carefully. The republicans will do anything to steal this election too.
--------–
What election did we steal? Show me froop? Even Gore has admitted he lost fair and square and EVERY recount he asked for showed he lost...the only and I mean ONLY areas with questionable voting were in DEM controlled areas..so we could say the desm TRIED to steal two elections but were caught.

Obama For America   November 4th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Wet ballots? Lets just let them dry and hope they work? Forget that i would say burn that ballot and give me a new one, I want to watch it count myself not just hope it works later...

Dan   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Noah, what does Troopergate have to do with anything? If I'm not mistaken, there's an election happening today...

Jason   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Hey Noah – the story about Palin being cleared did run on the CNN home page all this morning. That, along with the headline about Obama's grandmother have both moved off to make room for more up to date news and election coverage. Get over yourself.

blake   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Right

Its the liberal medias fault that

1. The gop has no message that anyone with a 6th grade education wants to hear.

2. The republican incompetence of the last 8 years will go down in history as the most polarized self serving time in american history

3. That election officials in virginia don't know that water ruins paper and electronics

Division and fear are all you have

OBAMA BIDEN

Tsongasluva   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Well at least they won't be counting all the military absentee votes in VA

Angel   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

didn't this happen in NC? very interesting

GAWoman4Obama, Atlanta   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

And we are suppose to trust that they will talley the votes correctly.
This is an effort to steal this election. Cheaters never prosper.

PULEEEZZZ!! lets tell some truth   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

ANYONE WHO CREATES DISHONEST VOTING SHOULD BE TRIED FOR TREASON!!! THIS COUNTRY WAS ABOUT: EVERY VOTE COUNTS – THATS WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY .. what a lie!!

Rachelraye49 - MD   November 4th, 2008 10:38 am ET

We can do better than this. Virginia official insured us that everything was okay. They didn't need any help with voting situation. Yeah, right whatever you do Virginians don't leave that poling place until you've cast your vote and please make sure it's correct. We will not let them steal another election. Enough is enough.

Matt   November 4th, 2008 10:37 am ET

You have got to be kidding me. The idiots who came up with the concept of using an electronic voting machine should be exiled to some Third World country never to be heard from again. These things are more trouble than they are worth! GO BACK TO PAPER BALLOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kat   November 4th, 2008 10:37 am ET

I voted in Virginia Beach and we have computerized voting so WHY is Chesapeake..20 minutes down the road using paper ballots? If it's not one thing it's another!

At 7:30 this morning my wait time was about 30 minutes. I didn't think that was too bad!

Rick   November 4th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Noah, the board that investigated and "cleared" her were also all handpicked by her. Shut your stupid mouth and remove your head from your southern orifice you ignorant GOP stooge.

Tony   November 4th, 2008 10:37 am ET

those darned republicans made it rain!

Rhiannon   November 4th, 2008 10:37 am ET

The cheating has begun- I heard that in Miami they're even trying to segregate people.

Rhiannon   November 4th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Noah, liberals, conservatives, and middle-of-the-roads are ALL working overtime to ruin the country. That's what happens when there is a two-party system that doesn't make a person run solely on their own merit.

ANGIE   November 4th, 2008 10:36 am ET

I live in PA I just got done voting with the line and casting my vote it took 10 minutes and I voted all DEMOCRAT

Patti   November 4th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Is this the 21st century? Sometimes I wonder, given these snafus at the polling places. When the wet ballots mix, is there a possibility that the marks will bleed into each other and the votes will be unreadable?

No Country for Old Men and young women   November 4th, 2008 10:35 am ET

WET BALLOTS! Get the voters to dry off before filling the ballots. It is important that recounts are avoided because of wet ballots.

Darla (Edmonton, Canada)   November 4th, 2008 10:35 am ET

OK ... the ridiculous manner and situation in which Americans are forced to vote is getting to be too much. The two big priorities on November 5 for the President-elect ... the economy and fixing the clearly BROKEN voting system in time for the next round of elections. This is one election where I am glad that I voted by absentee ballot as an American Abroad ... at least I didn't have to wait in a line, face a broken machine or be soaked in rain!

Commonwealth of Virginia   November 4th, 2008 10:35 am ET

The NAACP should have filed that lawsuit. This is ridiculous.

Maggie from Virginia   November 4th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Noah,

Get over it... Palin is a liar.

CJ   November 4th, 2008 10:35 am ET

This great country that is supposed to be ahead all other countries, when it comes to the voting process is a shame. We have a present president that was going to bring democracy to Iraq and here we don't even have the voting process down pad. Does this say anything?

Sandy   November 4th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Just another short coming of our officials NOT thinking ahead.

Bradley   November 4th, 2008 10:32 am ET

It is ridiculous that we can't manage to have reliable voting machines. In NYC we still have those acient machines with the big lever. I'm no ludite, but you never hear of voting problems here. If it ain't broke...

Maybe we should all just be given a piece of paper, put a check mark next to our candidates and be done with it.

Don   November 4th, 2008 10:32 am ET

I guess George Bush and the Republicans are responsible for the rain now?

Michael in Houston   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

And the trickery continues.....wet ballots....hmm sounds kinda stupid to me.

Don   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Off course our liberal media is showing a big gap. If they can not spread false and negative information they could not stay in a job. Wait till there man Obama gets into office and lets just see how much they will cover up then.

Noah   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I am waiting for CNN to post on its front page the news that Sarah Palin was cleared of any wrong doing in the Troopergate investigation. You liberals trashed her and made sure that Troopergate was on the front page of every liberal website when it looked like she may have done something wrong, and now that it has been proven she did NOTHING wrong, you cannot find the story anywhere. It has become such a sad state of affairs. Liberals are working overtime to ruin this country.

John in Ohio   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

More Virginia hijinks. Republicans working hard to steal Virginia.

CanIcallyouJoe   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Now, I'm naive enough to still give them the benefit of the doubt...
But if it happens a third time, you know what is going on.

A bunch of people looking at cnn.com at 9:28(cst) in the morning know about the wet ballots making it hard to vote but the election officials don't?

Stacy from Loudoun County VA   November 4th, 2008 10:31 am ET

It's official, my Commonwealth needs to wear the dunce hat and sit in a corner. Governor Kaine, extend voting hours immediately to 10 PM because this is an unmitigated disaster!

Frank,MO   November 4th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Seriously – we need help with our elections ! This is too difficult for us.

Michael watching from Canada   November 4th, 2008 10:28 am ET

Why can't they provide towels to dry off the hands just prior to voting?

Go Obama.

johnrj08   November 4th, 2008 10:28 am ET

We have morons running the elections in this country. There is no excuse in this country for voters having to wait in long lines at the polls, much less wet paper ballots fouling up machines.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   November 4th, 2008 10:28 am ET
