Let us pray that he can do the things he hopes to and that this country can truley unite.

The weight on this man's shoulders is incredible. If he faulters he will set back race relations, as he will give the bigots a reason to point and say "we told you." He has the support of so many Americans that he has the chance to enact REAL change, let us hope this support holds and we as an AMERICAN people can move forward.

Can we now please begin trial proceedings for crimes of atrocity against humanity for Bush, Cheney, Rove and all of the other treasonous SOBs involved in the disgrace that is our current white house? Dems have the white house back. Dems have the Senate locked down. Dems own the House. I'm all for moving forward and putting the last 8 horrible years behind us, but someone needs to pay for the crimes of the evil Bush administration.

i am terrified for america's future. uninformed voters have been swayed by the deceit of the obama's and by the negative media. The only change obama will bring is change towards a socialist america and then a communist america. You think that will help the economy? Yes look at russia's economy....they are still recovering from their communism and doing great dont you think? The only positive I can see is that we have an African american as our president-it shows America is a diverse country however I think it is a form of racism that black people voted for obama simply because he is black. I'm a white person....if I said I voted for mccain because he is white how much crap do you think I would get? I would be called a racist. I think america is headed downhill because of obama's policies. As far as giving the Democrats control of the senate and the house...are you joking me america??? I did not get the chance to vote in this historic election as I am from the UK.I live in New York now and have watched the race with huge interest over these past months and am delighted that Obama has been elected.

He is a true leader in every sense of the word and I was proud to be in New York last night supporting him like all other Democrats! This is great moment for Americans and I think Obama is already a legend. The first black president of America.....Awesome!

He is a good man and even though I didn't vote for him, I think he will do a lot of people proud. However, I am scared that my job might suffer. I am a carpenter and I do custom/finish carpentry for "the rich/people who make $250k+" and I am concerned that his tax increase for them will affect my business in a negative way.

I know for a fact that if I do take a hit, I will have to cut loose my one worker.

I share this same sentiment with my fellow small business peers.

I have to respond to my fellow CT resident, Steve. Well here comes Big Brother and there goes our privacy and independance? Didn't that already happen under W? we've had Illegal civilian phone taps, as well as tapping phone conversations of our troops overseas, including private conversations. How about the CSRT & MCA which allow the government to detain an "unlawful enemy combatant" which is very vaugely defined and ranges from an illegal immigrant to the guy that runs the 7-11 and is accused of being a terrorist based on little or no evidence? This person is then held, and a military tribunal decides if they are to be detained indefinately and tortured, meanwhile the "suspect" has no defence, and is not even made aware of the evidence against him/her. Then there's the "Project for a New American Century", which basically outlines pre-emptive strikes on countries that are deemed to not have american values (Iraq, for starters). read it. its public information on a (for lack of a better phrase) New World Order, ruled over by The United States. Bush has surrounded himself with several of the authors of this project, including Cheney and Rumsfield. now tell me who Big Brother is. I could post more on this all day if I had the time.....

Democrats are well known for cutting the military back. This weakens the country not strengthen it. Many jobs will be lost for the faulty thought of saving on the budget. Credit is the real problem with this country. If everyone lived WITHIN their means then everyone would be better off. Getting into debt then squelching on that debt is the reason things are bad off. Companies are laying off because they are in heavy debt, instead of producing only what is needed they overproduce and cut their own necks. As a result our jobs in the process. The president can never change or affect this. The president is an almost powerless trophy title. We have to change our own selfish desires. Live within our means, will mean never going into debt. Yes, you wont have everything everyone else has, but that doesnt mean your life is worth any less. It just means you'll have to wait for what you want instead of getting that selfish instant gratification from credit.

Even though I'm still seventeen, I supported Barack during the primaries, and I was estatic when I heard he declared himself a contender for the office. As a white male, I hope this can finally bridge the divide between THIS America and the other America; the spiteful and hateful America that has plagued us and tarnished our good name. May we finally come together, and unite behind sweeping changes. Unite behind a new, green energy plan for America. Unite behind a new, better regulated economic system. Obama's story is an inspiration for the world! But I do wish that the media would stop obsessing over him being the first African American president. If you look at Barack Obama and all you see is a black man, then you have missed the very point of Barack Obama. Over the course of this election, he has trancended race and all those other stereotypes we use to try and define someone's identity. When you look at him, see hope, see inspiration, see determination, see the wonderful story of a man who makes us all believe that anything really is possible.
