Some voters weigh in whether to limit abortion rights.
(CNN) – In addition to selecting a new president, voters in three states cast their ballots Tuesday for initiatives that would affect abortion rights. CNN projected that Colorado voters would reject Amendment 48, which would define life as beginning from the moment of conception, a move that would effectively challenge the legality of abortion. CNN projected that South Dakota voters would reject Initiative 11, which would have made abortion a crime with limited exceptions for rape, incest or the health of the mother. But by early Wednesday, the vote in California was still too close for CNN to project a winner on Proposition 4, which would require that doctors notify parents or guardians when a minor is seeking an abortion at least 48 hours before carrying it out. Similar initiatives were defeated in 2005 and 2006. Filed under: Abortion Rights |
