CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) – Will Senior Obama Campaign Strategist Robert Gibbs become Barack Obama's Press Secretary?

A high level source involved in the Obama transition team tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that as of this morning the offer to Gibbs of the Press Secretary's position has been discussed but that the job has not been formally offered yet.

CNN's Jessica Yellin is also hearing a similar message from another Obama transition source.
A very close friend of Gibb's on Capitol Hill tells CNN Chief National Correspondent John King that he's been told the job is a done deal and will be announced later today.

Gibbs steered the Obama Campaign's communications. He served as Communications Director in Obama's Senate office prior to joining the presidential campaign early last year, and he was a major player in the freshman senator's rise in the public eye.

This guy delivered a well-deserved smackdown to that virus Hannity. He's precisely what is needed to make sure the messages coming out of the White House are not only truthful to begin with, but also get reported truthfully.

EBJ   November 6th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

HEY gt...I guess it's ok for FoxNews to be in every Republican's corner right? You right wing haters need to find a new hobby for the next 4 to 8 years.

American Concerned About Fluff   November 6th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Mr. Gibbs -

Starting on Day 1 Demand Civility from The Press.

Make sure that the Obama presidency marks a return to proper decorum and honor for the Office of the President of the United States.

I can't want for you to respond with. That question is not relevant to the people's business. Put bounds on these journalists.

If a journalist develops a reputation as an idiot seeking to titilate the public through the media ... blacklist the bum.

Paul, NJ   November 6th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

When Hillary lost the primary, it took me a while to get over it. I wasn't ready to support Obama right away. After I got over the sting and started listening to what he had to say, I really liked what I heard. I suspect rational McCain supporters will take a little time to recover and then judge Obama on his performance. Hopefully we'll all be very impressed.

Dianne   November 6th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Pure speculation! But, having said that he's an obvious choice.

Robert Gibbs is honest and has the perfect temperament to be Press Secretary. He has been the communicator for the Campaign all these long months and extremely loyal to the President-Elect Barack Obama.

He's a 'Teddy Bear' but also has proven he can be TOUGH!

Matt   November 6th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

It's going to be fun to hear all the racists out there blabber about Obama appointing an all minority cabinet and other such nonsense, then watch Obama make responsible choices, just like he did during his entire campaign, based entirely on the merit of the people he appoints. Some people never learn because they refuse to look at the evidence. Think it thru: the reason they've used fear all these years is because they didn't want to be the only ones scared.

BS not Maverick   November 6th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Oberman will be sad.

carolflowery   November 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

maybe Mrs. Ayers would be a good pic

Lisa   November 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Tony stop the whining you are on here just be hateful. I wish CNN would moderate you right off of here. CRY BABY!!!

Ken   November 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

It great to see all the rightwing true-believers out here posting their drivel. They are immediately noticable, like the red hind-ends of baboons up in the forrest trees.

Zzzzz   November 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Gibbs is a great choice. Love him for putting hater Sean Hannity in his place"shoe box"

Independent Voter   November 6th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

The economy was already in the toliet. Obama has nothing to do with the market right now. Geez, you Republicans are born spinners, I swear...tell the truth sometime.

gluvnast   November 6th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

maddow is too far to the left. gibbs is the perfect choice, because he KNOWS obama like the back of his hand and he can handle the opposing media well while being respectable at the sametime

Leo   November 6th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Again I have to stand up for my man Sean Hannity. He will not attend the press conferences because he is not the press! Geesh......

Zzzzz   November 6th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Great choice!! Love him for putting Sean Hannity in his place..."shoe box"
Sean Hannity, Fixed News and characters are all idiots!! SHAME ON FOX!!!

GOP Lost   November 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Bet it won't be Sarah Palin!

dwayne   November 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Good Choice! He shut up that twit Hannity on Fox News after the last debate!

Ken   November 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Mary, patience, patience. It will take awhile to identify a high-level [R] with enough brains left to support an Obama administration. And then they will have to beat him out of the "bushes", get him into the clear, while he dodges all the slanders of traitor coming from neo-morons like you.

IowaMom   November 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Oh, I just found a youtube where Gibbs took on Hannity. Yeah, I like this guy.

john in VA   November 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Rick said "Now with the picks he has for key positions i now know that we are headed down a road of socialism that will tear this country apart."

Interesting, considering the only people picked so far are members of the "Transition Team", you know, the folks who dig into the the mess the current administration has built, and try to triage the damage and get a handle on the priorities. No cabinet or other adminstration positions have been chosen.

As for the "road to socialism" tearing this country apart, I don't think you need to worry, Bush's unbridled capitalistic socialism (i.e. take from the poor and give to the rich) has already torn this country into little pieces.

Candid   November 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

This morning I listened to NPR National Public Radio, Obama supporters have high expectations from him: they said they are waiting for tax cuts, lower tuitions, higher income...It sounds they are not very reasonable. I am Obama supporter too, but I believe Obama will try very hard to make America a better country for everybody, but he does not have any magic, we the people have to work harder to help him and also help ourselves, please don't wait and do nothing then expect miracles happen.

TO ALL OF YOU, I STRONGLY BELIEVE OBAMA CARES FOR THIS COUNTRY AND AMERICAN PEOPLE. HE WILL BE ONE OF OUR BEST PRESIDENTS. MARK MY WORDS!!!

Viola   November 6th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Oh this guy more than deserves the job, he is the only person I have seen, who had the balls to shut FIX News down.

Dawn   November 6th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

This is great because Mr. Gibbs is not good at lying so the team will have to run in properly.

Stacy from Loudoun County VA   November 6th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

This guy is awesome. I hope Sean Hannity comes to the Press Conferences now!

Necie   November 6th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Wonderful....I've watched him throughout this campaign season, how he handles the media, answering questions and always staying on point.......he is a great choice.

IowaMom   November 6th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Come on people, I've read posts about the market going down all because of Obama. This is not new lately. It didn't happen for the time time yesterday. Grasping at straws because you didn't get your way only makes you look foolish.

elizabeth   November 6th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

Why so many evil comments, I will never under stands about others.

Frank D   November 6th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

People like Robert Gibbs are highly needed in the New White House. I watched him through the campaign, he was very human, knowledgeable and amazing.

Congratulations on getting your scumbag racist comment posted at the top of the list.

America loses   November 6th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

Barack, Ayers, Rezko, Wright, Phlaeger and Acorn win this round. America will get its country back when these guys move us away from our centre right base.

Did you hear the latest Ayers wants to be the Secretary for Homeland Security. Should be interesting.

geraldine   November 6th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

1. Of course the market has gone down – why would anyone want money invested in a company when a) capital gains and dividend taxes are going up; b) trade agreements are going to be renegotiated; and c) executive pay is going to be limited. Would you want to do business here? (these are his campaign promises – not talk radio talking). My money came out of the market last Friday. Mattress is safer for the time being...

2. He already has several press secretaries – Campbell Brown, Keith Olberman, Katie Couric, Fidel Castro, etc. so I don't know why he needs to hire and pay another

gbrown2   November 6th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

GREAT CHOICE!!!!

ANGIE   November 6th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

I liked the way he punched S*& Hanninty after 3rd debate.
I dont agree about McClellan. He is not a good communicator.

Mary   November 6th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Are we reaching across the isle yet? 2 for 2. Emmanuel, Gibbs both Dems. I will be curious to see if he keeps his promise of there are no Democrates there are no Republicans we are all one. Let's see if he actually appoints a republican to his cabinet.

Jan in NC   November 6th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

GIBBS? YES! YES! YES!!

Pete   November 6th, 2008 11:59 am ET

zolesh, on the contrary, it would not suprize me to see a movement by some 'Politically Correct' organization to want the structure located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue renamed the "Black House". Just as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln had their individual birthday/national holidays removed in favor of Martin Luther King day.

America loses   November 6th, 2008 11:59 am ET

America we have been through two world wars and countless conflicts, we can certainly survive four years of a radical left wing administration trying to destroy us from within.

KM   November 6th, 2008 11:59 am ET

It's clear that some people do not like themselves very much, that regardless of what happens from day to day, most of them will not like the smell of fresh air, let alone sharing it with anyone else, or perhaps even attempting to wish anyone else well.

In spite of all of the obviouos hatred, progress will be made by the american people. The road will be rough, and even tougher than we are seeing day to day. But Joy! comes in the morning...

Let's continue working America, for the good of everyone. Even those who dislike their own existence...

Joe M   November 6th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Great choice! Stood up to Hannity and brings a "Southern" Democratic perspective to the table. Has been candid with the press and will get the respect of most except the anti-Semitic, bigoted, right wing "lug nuts" and "McCainiacs" that can't get over it.

That means you, Rush!

Catholic-mom-4-OBAMA   November 6th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Oh brother! Reading some of the VILE comments from the far-right-nuts on this blog, I realize how insane those people are!

LISTEN UP ALL OF YOU CALLING "LIBERALS LIARS"!

WHO LIED ABOUT THE REASON TO ATTACK A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY, IRAQ? BUSH

WHO LIED ABOUT TORTURE? BUSH

BUSH/CHENEY & THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN HAVE BEEN LYING FOR YEARS!

BEFORE YOU ACCUSE SOMEONE LYING........TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR!

President Barack Obama   November 6th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Andy, Rick suck it up. You have eight years Deal with it buddy. Let me spell it out for you...

President Barack Hussein Obama .......Sounds Good
I like that....Lets say it again..... President Barack Hussein Obama

See you at the Inauguration on Jan 20, 2009.... Oh, & bring your camera

Praetorian   November 6th, 2008 11:56 am ET

This guy is the best talent agent/publicist in the world.

Sylvia   November 6th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Robert Gibbs is the person for the job. There is loyalty and a bond that was developed between Gibbs and Obama. Gibbs was there for him from day one and Gibbs can handle the negative attacks that I'm sure will not go away after the election.

sthflachk   November 6th, 2008 11:55 am ET

whoever he picks as his press secretary is immaterial......how they give the briefing is. If they continue with Bush's style of briefing, where the reporters are spoonfed information and not allowed to ask serious questions with any hope of being answered directly, then who cares who the mouthpiece is?

But, hopefully, since we voted for Change, we will not have to deal with that again!

p.s.
what are you doing to change the world?

Steve   November 6th, 2008 11:55 am ET

I like Gibbs and think he is a great choice for the job. He already has great rapport with the media and there is mutual respect.

I can't wait for inauguration day. I also want to thank the unsung hero of this campaign, Howard Dean, for his 50 state strategy, and for proving a few years ago how important the internet was as a fundraising tool.

More importantly, a big "THANK YOU" to all the people who saw Obama as a person before they saw his color. You are the ones who should be truly proud. You are responsible for the history we just witnessed. You've given all of us hope.!

Virginia   November 6th, 2008 11:54 am ET

"Oh praise thee messiah Obama." To Andy, I hope this was said tongue in cheek, as I think it was. This is the very reason why people, me included, are afraid of this new President.......I fear there are people who look at him as the Messiah. There is only one–Jesus Christ–and the Bible tells us there will be false Messiahs who will do evil things. He may not be that man, but may be a precursor to it. As I said yesterday, God (the real one) help us all!! Everyone is saying he is speaking the truth, but how do we know until he gets into office. Time will tell on that one.

Oh, and if he keeps choosing senators and congressmen for his cabinet posts, at least the Republicans have a chance to win back those seats-Keep it up Nobama!!

Catholic-mom-4-OBAMA   November 6th, 2008 11:54 am ET

@ Tony, are you a Christian??? IF SO, WHY ARE YOU SO HATEFUL? READ THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW.

I think Gibbs will be great. We will be proud of the OBAMA Cabinet!

Perhaps Sec. Powell and David Gergen will be invited to become advisors!

GOD BLESS & GUIDE PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA!

Attorney in FL   November 6th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Hillary Clinton should have been President, and Obama as Press Secretary. That boy has speakin' skills, but he is not qualified to be President of the United States.

God help us all.

PW   November 6th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Dear Show It Up – The REPUBLICANS are nothing but LIARS hence the reason why the economy is in the state that it's in NOW!!! We had to deal with Bush and his incompetence for 8 years. OBVIOUSLY neither Bush, McCain or Palin have anything on Barack when it comes to intelligence or anything else for that matter. Barack will bring us together as one nation indivisible...THATS AMERICA! If you can't stand the heat then get the heck out of the kitchen...you and all the HATERS!!! It's OUR time now...

Shari, NY   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Obama's campaign was run in fine style. If the the wit, intelligence, and savvy technological skills that were utilized during the campaign resonates during Obama's tenure then he will be on the right track.

America loses   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

We are about to nearly half of this country simply for the sake of Change.

This guy will destroy anyone that disagrees with this administration. Is that really a good thing for America to no longer be allowed to debate issues? I say a resounding no.

This administration will expect us to be good little communists with tunnel vision. Emmanuel and Gibbs will make it the law to be submissive to their socialism.

Smooth Barry, What have you done to the Market?   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

This insider stuff about Gibbs is small potatoes. The stock market has taken a huge hit two days straight since Obama was elected. Now that's news. Let's face it, Wall Street does not trust Obama to handle the economy!

EAZY M   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

GREAT JOB OBAMA GIVE THIS COUNTRY WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR "CHANGE"

Happy Day - that's the problem - liberals can't be trusted!   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Nuff said!

Wise White Guy   November 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Seattle Sue – I disagree with you. The Bush P/S have for the most part been a lot like Palin was early on. Very trusting and not very bright. Only one who figured out he was being lied to and being asked to say things that were not true was Scott McClellen. I believe most were just ignorant pawns. Keep em dumb like GW was Cheney's philosophy.

Darlene D   November 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

I think Robert Gibbs would be a wonderful choice. I watched him throughout the presidential campaign and he was always on his game. Love how he handled Nicole Wallace and Joe Scarborough on many occasions. Good luck to Mr. Gibbs! And to President Obama!!!

Bob   November 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Seems to be appointing a lot of Jewish candidates. Could be because he's taking orders from that deceiver in the EU.

Happy Day   November 6th, 2008 11:50 am ET

I love the fact that President Barack has so many good folks from his campaignthat he can trust and choose from so easily. I couldn't imagine any of Mccain's negative folks being used.

PA Republican   November 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I thought this was going to be Bi-Partisan Administration! Rachel Maddow, Keith Olberman? If you want the Republicans to buy into supporting an Obama Presidency, try practicing what you preach. Nancy Pelosi ruined the bailout package in the house the first time by slamming Republicans on the floor. Republicans will resist a partisan Administration and start to curb their voting records for a 2012 Election. We are not Democrats and Republican any longer right? We are all Americans now! Follow the "Leaders" words and practice what he preached!

EAZY M   November 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I'M SO PLEASE TO SAY THAT WE HAVE A NEW PREZ. IM ALSO SORRY FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T WANT TO VOTE FOR OBAMA GUESS WHAT HE'S HERE TO STAY. COMMITT SUICIDE IF IT IS THAT BAD. FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD, CHANGE IS HERE. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK MY WHITE SISTER'S AND BROTHERS FOR SUPPORTING A GREAT MAN ON THAT HISTORICAL NIGHT. YOU GUYS MADE UP 63% OF THE VOTE AND WE DO APPRECIATE VERY MUCH. THE US NEEDED A FLUSHING AFTER BUSH AND WE ARE READY FOR IT. JUSTED WANTED TO SAY THANKS TO ALL AND GOD BLESS.

Jinny Lee   November 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Rick – why don't you go live with Sarah Palin......

chuck   November 6th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I would be more than happy to see Robert Gibbs in that position because he will look after the back of Barack Obama.Don't forget Robert stood by Barack's side when the going was tough and good and you should never turn your back on such kindness and great character.

I think you all need to get off the hate,,both sides and start with some good wishes for the country and the new President, I think Gibbs would be a good choice. He always stays cool and non bitter. Cmon guys the election is over, If you want to trash talk at least wait for a couple of years.

Andy, you can't possibly be serious. Obama's Inauguration Day is 20 January, until then he is still a Senator. I suppose if he needs to go to the bathroom he will need an approval from the likes of you.

Ken in NC   November 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I hope the campaign is fair to the other side and does not forget to bring Republican Governor Palin into the administration. Someone will have to clean after the new puppy.

Beth   November 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Excellent choice. I think he has already proven himself. I always loved watching him on the news show!!

Michael Shea   November 6th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I believe Robert Gibbs is the natural choice. He's diplomatic, has a great smile and is personable.

Since he has spent so much time with President-Elect Obama, he shares insights that an outsider doesn't have.

A similar situation is when President Kennedy named Pierre Salinger as his press secretary. Salinger had spent many years with JFK before Kennedy became President and did an outstanding job

Samantha in MI   November 6th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I'm sure Gibbs would do a great job since the Obama campaign was wonderful but I agree with John, Rachel Maddow would be a great choice! :) I love her show!

So glad Obama is our President Elect! I am proud to have helped elect him!

Seattle Sue   November 6th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Does this position require being a liar? All of the press secretaries Bush has has have been fantastic liars.

Jan 20th 09   November 6th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Andy

Seems to be you are an uneducated fool...do you even know the history of your own country, guess NOT.

Obama does not start till Jan 20th 09, we are still in 2008. The stock market has been down for weeks, caused by Bush and McCain's policies. This man has not even started and you people are attacking him...you are a joke, all the right wings are a joke. Go back to your caves and hide for the next 8 years or move...leave, you might prosper elsewhere...

Enough said.

Gibbs is a Liar   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Good to see Obamy is off to a rockin' start with the lying liar Gibbs. Get ready for Marxist torture over the next four years, druid liberals.

Deb   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

I think Gibbs is a great choice. After the way he held his ground with Sean Hannity (someone who never lets the opponent get a word in ) was fantastic. Good choice.

Leo   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Man, you liberals sure hate Hannity. What you have to remember is Hannity is not the press and is not a journalist. Hannity is a commentator. It doesn't matter who the press secretary is with the left leaning media. Mickey Mouse could do it.

I was a vocal McCain supporter and was impressed with Palin, given all of the attacks she was under. You liberals need to learn to be gracious winners and stop the hatred. I'm over McCain's loss and plan to support President Obama unless he does something that could gravely harm our great country.

Awesome choice in Robert Gibbs! He is a very down-to-earth and personable guy.... a complete opposite to that weasel in the McCain camp, Tucker Bounds.

Bruce   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

I really wish that all those here and other places tht still bashing Obama would get over it. Mccain even said that we need to work together. This is the only way we can come together as the UNITED States of America.
Of course no one is going to be perfect and there are going to many things that personally we may not like about the leader, no matter which one it would have been. But the fact remains we have a long road ahead of us and either candidate realized this, and that is why we must come together as a nation, otherwise we are into the end of days for this nation. In the past in times of crisis in this country we have come together and worked as one to make it great ...this time is no different. it is time to STOP the back biting,,and the devisivenss , the bad mouthing, and to work as one NATION.
This goes for Congress as well..it is not the red and blue states of America, it is not the Congress of the political party...it is...
the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the Conrgess of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Anthony, Dallas, Tx   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Great choice

J J   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Olberman, please. He is a hack. That would be like saying that Cindy Sheehan should be secretary of defense, oh wait I suppose thats possible. Rumor of Kerry for Secretary of State, that will be fun NOT!

dizizi31   November 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Gibbs is good but Rachel Maddow is better. He's needs a fresh face with the gift of gab and very likable to public. Forget Gibbs select Maddow.

Chris in PA   November 6th, 2008 11:38 am ET

David Gergen must serve on the Obama administration. He is wonderful!!!!

Republican Voting OBAMA   November 6th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Great Choice. I support this one.

JTBW   November 6th, 2008 11:37 am ET

An excellent choice would be Rachel Maddow, but Robert Gibbs is a good choice too. He can follow it up with Keith Olberman. Campbell Brown shouldn't be considered for the shortest short list. haha

Larry of Boston   November 6th, 2008 11:37 am ET

CNN has still not learned their lesson. It is not getting the scoop that matters; it is getting it right. If CNN is going to dog this president 24 x 7 and try to announce stories before they are announced by the Obama Administration, then CNN is DEAD WRONG and doing the United States a disservice ... chill dudes -this is not a media race; it is our country's future that you are playing with

KSalzer   November 6th, 2008 11:37 am ET

C'mon... Maddow's perfect for this!

AJ   November 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Can't we have a good looking Press Secretary? Please?

john for Obama   November 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

GREAT!! he did an awesome job of speaking truthfully...its time to stop playing games in our government and tell people the truth which Bush has not done

Obama is not in charge.Still 74 days, 11 hours and 30 minutes left of GWB

B. Brock   November 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Gibbs, Maddow, McClellan are all good choices. I'm sure he'll pick the best person, just like he did for his stellar campaign.

In response to gt above, I think most of the news media you mentioned, including CNN, was fair in having all the candidates express their views and be equally featured in interviews, and equally analyzed for the truth of their viewpoints and their ads. CNN had both Democratic and Republican strategists on to analyze every new aspect of both campaigns. They deserve kudos for their coverage. You know you're doing your job when both sides in turn have reason to squirm from what you say, or who you choose to interview.

Perhaps what gt is missing is that absolute allegience that seemed to predominate the media in their attempt to support Bush in his two terms because of 911 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

When McCain decided to go back to the label "Liberal Media" I think all the media outlets (with the exception of Fox, which was always a conservative mouthpiece) decided that no matter what they said they would be lambasted by the Republicans, so they finally started revealing the truth. It's about time we got the straight story and not just the press releases of the Bush administration that whitewashed all the lies they told.

Grace Needed   November 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Go Gibbs! I appreciate anyone who will stand against the vicious, vile, low down, nasty kind of political attacks waged by the McCain/Palin campaign. They have NO place in our political system nor our civil discussion. We are better than that! Thank God for people like Robert Gibbs who could calmly, graciously confront the likes of Sean Hannity with the truth in a loving manner. I am still 'righteously indignant' over the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity and Reilly who say they are Conservatives and even Christians and would so debase MY faith with these kind of actions. I abhor their influence on so many, including family members. YET, I know they will reap what they sow and they will NOT escape accountability before God for their words, especially as they have been 'shepherds' to so many 'sheep', misleading them and deceiving them.

Ken in NC   November 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

CONGRATULATIONS to you Robert Gibbs. Keep up the good work.

Ty the Political Junkie   November 6th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Please pick Rachel Maddow!!!

karen-phoenix   November 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

I like Gibbs. Everytime I saw him he was articulate and very positive. Sounded honest and just a nice guy!!!

Melissa Petoskey, MI   November 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

I think Gibbs would be a good fit. Did anyone see how he schooled Sean Hannity a couple of months ago? Finally, he was dumbfounded. But as expected, Fox is still bashing and hating. Deal with it guys or move to Budapest.

J.C.   November 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Let's give President-elect Obama our full support, no matter if you voted for him or not. His future is also our future, if you think twice about it.

AK   November 6th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Rick_____________ in six mouths I hope you eat your words!
The man hasn't even openned his mouth since his victory speech and imbeciles like you are making ridiculous comments.
This is our President and you all better get use to it. He will need us as good citizens and we will need him as a just, wise and effective leader. But where necessary, we can criticize... thats the beauty of this democracy. But first, lets let him take office and actually start governing before we start the criticism.
RThe choice of Robert Gibbs is an EXCELLENT one.
I particularly loved the way he stood up to the imbecile-Sean Hannity.

Jamal   November 6th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Haha. I've loved this guy ever since he gave Sean Hannity the Business on Fox News that one night. Another great choice, President Obama.

now we call black house....

COLORADO   November 6th, 2008 11:32 am ET

I am glad Gibbs is being offered the job, but let me throw my two cents in. I think Anderson Cooper should be offered the press sec. job. A/C is a great journalist and is extremely familiar with Obama and his campaign, not to mention alot of international journalism experience.

javone   November 6th, 2008 11:32 am ET

I LOVE Rachel but she just got her show and it is doing GREAT! I think she should stay there...and Olbermann is good at what he does. I watch them back to back every night. I LOVE Robert Gibbs because of the fact that someone else brought up.....he's not a very convincing liar. How refreshing in washington!

Alberta   November 6th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Gibbs is an excellent choice!!!

Rick   November 6th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Great, another pompous idiot to deal with.

JB   November 6th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Great choice. Gibbs has shown himself to be competent and unflappable. I think he's an excellent choice.

Marie Ontario   November 6th, 2008 11:30 am ET

To Rick. Judging from your comments you don't appear to know the true definitions of liberalsim or socialism and quite likely conservatism.

Then again you might just be Rush Limbaugh in drag as you are condeming things before they take place. In any event you lost and by your comments you are a self made loser. Get over it!!! Ha Ha.

show it up   November 6th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Republicans fight on for we have much needed victories that lie ahead of us in 2010 and 2012....We must take back our country from these liberal liars....

GA voter   November 6th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Robert Gibbs is really a perfect person for this job under President Obama. He is calm under pressure. He is thoughful about his answers. He is totally drama-free. He is very available to the media. He is also liked by the media. He also does not lie even when put in through tough situation. Most importantly, he is well spoken and really stays on message............Great pick if he is really the one....

David from Ohio   November 6th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Mr. Gibbs is great. He did a phenomenal job for Senator Obama. I also think both Mr. Plouff and Mr. Axelrod need to be rewarded. Clearly these two ran a very well disciplined campaign. Without those two, I am not sure if Senator Obama will be at where he is. They clearly showed the ability to run a extremely successful campaign.

Terry, Butte, Mt   November 6th, 2008 11:28 am ET

I am baffled out of 2 years of an extremely disiplined campaign, that there are all these leaks now. I bet Obama is searching for the leaks and remove them quickly.

Let Obama go through his thorough, methodic process of putting the right people in the right positions without all this speculation.

btw, Gibbs would be great as Press Secratery.

Good Choice   November 6th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Good choice Obama!

And good choice America for Choosin Obama!

As a white woman, I couldn't be more proud that a man that is 1/2 white is president. The fact that he is from a bi-racial family only proves how unique and awesome out country is!

Chut Pata   November 6th, 2008 11:27 am ET

My vote goes to Mike Malloy. har har har. That left wing whaco radio show host would take care of all right wing whacos like Limbaugh, Hannity, Reagan, O'Reilly, all by himself.

If not Mike Malloy, then Lionel, Bender, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow or any other left wing radio show host would do.

roland   November 6th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Jack Cafferty deserve a slot too,he really worked hard against the worst political anchors in CNN SITUATION ROOM

Kiah G.   November 6th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Nice! I loved Gibbs throughout this election...

MBFLA   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Gayle   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I hope that Robert Gibbs has been offered the job and will accept. He is well spoken in my eyes.

country first   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

he sounds like a good choice, i trust president obamas decision on all his choices for his cabinet.

Rick   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I am fairly conservative in my views but i also knew that we needed change. I did not vote for Obama because of his extreme left leaning ways and his relationships with some very dirty and slimey people. After he was elected i hoped for the best with what we got. Now with the picks he has for key positions i now know that we are headed down a road of socialism that will tear this country apart. To the happy Obama supporters, in six months time when you find out he cannot deliver what he has promised and you get what he really wants, then you will have what you deserve

Obama Victim   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

another liar in the White House????

Tina   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Good choice. Anyone who can fluster Hannity can handle the job.

While I love Rachel Maddow her new show is a HIT and I don't think she'd want to give it up so soon.

RM   November 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Sarah Palin anyone?

Druid Marxist Obama Supporter   November 6th, 2008 11:24 am ET

It doesn't matter who Obama gives the job to. GIven the shady tactics Obama used to get elected, we should all fully expect the truth to NOT match what his mouthpiece tells us. GET READY for the failed economic policies of the next four years, liberals.

Marie Cole   November 6th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Don't sleep on David Gergen. I did not know who he was until this election and I have been very impressed with the depth of his analysis on a variety of issues. His counsel could be invaluable to Obama.

andy   November 6th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Rachel Maddow? Keith Olbermann? What are you people smoking, and how much on a daily basis? Oh wait, I forgot you fools are liberals.....

Obama doesn't even need a press secretary–the mainstream (what a crock) media will give him all the positive publicity he can ever ask for, and if they don't his supporters will just call them "racists."

Carole   November 6th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Great choice!!! He is really awesome and appears to be extremely intelligent.

Sue   November 6th, 2008 11:21 am ET

My vote would be for Robert Gibbs. Rachel Maddow would be an interesting choice, though.

Chris from St. Louis   November 6th, 2008 11:21 am ET

All other positions can wait .... what the country now need is a good, (no, a great) treasury secretary ... Mr. Obama, please select your treasury secretary as soon as possible. Markets are anxiously waiting for your decision.

John in UT   November 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Loved the way he handled Hannity! Loved it!! Very good choice. Keep Maddow and Olbermann where they are, don't break up that team.

FAYE, NV   November 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

CONGRAT GIBBS, HOPE THIS JOB IS YOURS.

values   November 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Gibbs earned it .

Anonymous   November 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

The most importain thing is that he tells us the truth, if it's
bad or good news.
I am from abroad and live in the Netherlands.
Our exeptations are very high now Barack is elected.
I read on CNN and these blogs that he "have to put his
country first" and I think thats natural.
I also think that it is very importaint that he does everyting to
restore the connections with foreign countrys because that is in the interest of the USA also..
For instence, in the war in Afghanistan. He will intensify the troops
there and if needed fight over the border off Afghanistan.
We, the Dutch, are fighting with you overthere and we also lost
young man.
What I hear from our soldiers who came back that the American
soldiers are acting very hard towards the Afghanistan civiliens.
The Dutch soldiers over there are praised by there relationbilding with the civiliens. So, if America wants to succeed in Afghanistan
they not only have to fight but also invest in the relationship with his
citicens. This also was and is the problem in Iraq.
When Barack gives attention to this I am sure that he will get more and more support from other countrys like France and Germany.
The problem is that the USA always try to implant her own way of living because that should be the only way. It is importaint to know and accept that there are cultural diferences that cannot be agnored.

I deeply hope and pray that Barack is able to implement this filosofy on the war in Aghanistan.

(Sorry for my bad English).

Martin   November 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Jon Stewart would be perfect for the job!

J.C.   November 6th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Robert Gibbs did a great job for Obama's campaign so it's natural for him to take the job if he wishes.

President-elect Obama will unite the two parties by inviting Chuck Hagel and Robert Gates to his administration. I hope he will add General Petraeus and Powell to his cabinet list, too. It would be a shame to drop good people for partisanship.

ray nevin   November 6th, 2008 11:16 am ET

ROBERT GIBBS SMART AND PRECISE AND CALM UNDER FIRE PERFECT PICK

Independent and loving it - Minnesota   November 6th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Bob Gibbs is a great choice. I know Obama will surround himself with intelligent and strong people. That is a sign of a good leader.

Cynthia; Bham   November 6th, 2008 11:15 am ET

I like Gibbs and he would be good at it.

What did David Gergen do under the other Administrations that he was involved in? He would make a great addition to the Obama Administration.

sabuc   November 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Im very please to see that Obama is on the ball on day one. Can't wait until Jan 20 for the A-team to step up and take over.

Gloria - Minnesota   November 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

I think Robert Gibbs would be an excellent choice; I was very impressed with how he handled the media during Barack Obama's campaign. He appears to be a thoughtful, intelligent individual, just like all the people this ticket surrounded themselves with!

Good luck, Mr. Gibbs.

Thankful to say, Pres. Elect Obama/V.P. Elect Biden!!

Tariq   November 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Perfect choice!!! Anyone who can out-argue Sean Hannity using Hannity's logic is a great person

gary   November 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

i agree with john Rachel Maddow for press sec.

David, Silver Spring, MD   November 6th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Gibbs could be Press Secretary, but Obama should do the daily press briefings himself.

Nina in Orlando   November 6th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Excellent choice. Good job, President Obama!

Moxiegurl   November 6th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Chris Matthews?
Gibb is such a bad lier but I guess if things were going wrong we would know by the experssion on Gibb's face.

But he does derserve the job. However, Bill Burton did give the smackdown to Faux News.

Tough call.

Great choice. I loved how he put Sean Hannity in his place! Of course, Rachel Maddow would be FANTASTIC!!!!

Matt   November 6th, 2008 11:08 am ET

typical of liberals... blame everything on "right wing pundits" and forget about left wing pundits

Ron of Baltimore   November 6th, 2008 11:07 am ET

That would be great news. Gibbs has proven himself over and over again these past few months, able to affably fend off even the most blunt and uncivil Republican attacks. He's a sure professional, and the kind of talent Obama has surrounded himself with already.

Good luck Bob! Go Obama-Biden! Go America!!

Cindy- St. Louis   November 6th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Robert Gibbs is an excellent choice- steady, calm, unflappable- just like his boss!!!

Thoughtful and wise judgment continues....

Chuck Todd would be a great press secretary. Calm and cool and great credibilty.

Scott NYC Independent   November 6th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Keith Olberman or Robert Gibbs – either would be a great choice if its Gibbs logical and best.

Barbara CA   November 6th, 2008 11:05 am ET

I do like Robert Gibbs, he is pleasant and he did a good job of supporting Obama but you are right John, Rachel Maddow would be interesting.

Wonderful choice....Gibbs is smart, articulate, level-headed and will level with US.

John from White Plains, NY   November 6th, 2008 11:03 am ET

A great choice - 100x better than that airhead who worked for McCain during the campaign and 1000x better than Perrino!!!! Has she finally learned that the Pay of Pigs is related to Cuba or its actually a large holding tank for pork?!

Jozee   November 6th, 2008 11:03 am ET

@John, I love the idea of Rachel Maddow as Press Secretary but we need somebody to tell the news like it is.

From the way that Gibbs handed Shawn Hannity his behind on a platter, and superbly defended his point, Gibbs showed himself to be a worth Press Secretary.

Whomever Obama picks will be first rate. Our President Elect is a master at surrounding himself with the cream of the crop.

Winnie Hussein . . . in Montana   November 6th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Rachel Maddow would make an awesome press secretary!

Brenda   November 6th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Great choice.
