Some McCain advisers were frustrated by Palin.
Some McCain advisers were frustrated by Palin.

(CNN) — Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin had prepared to deliver a concession speech before John McCain’s Tuesday night — and brought her remarks with her to his Phoenix concession — but senior McCain campaign adviser Steve Schmidt told her she could not.

Two McCain sources say Palin clearly did not understand the protocol of a concession speech, and expected she would have the chance to deliver one of her own.

Update: Palin camp fires back

McCain advisers were also upset with the Alaska governor for setting up what she thought was a call from French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The call, which turned out to be a prank from Quebec radio hosts, was not cleared with the McCain campaign and some saw the effort to set it up as evidence of her future presidential ambitions.

A Palin ally involved in setting up the call, however, suggests McCain advisers had ample time to object given the call was on her schedule for three days.

Two McCain sources also say Palin did not know Africa was a continent and could not find it on a map. A third source, a Palin ally, says that was a miscommunication.

And over at Foxnews, they're saying Sarah has been unfairly scapegoated haha… Hell, if McCain had booted her from the ticket when she started to go off-script on the campaign trail, he might have had a chance of closing the gap with Obama a bit. They may be pouring love all over the "Barracuda" in Wasilla, but I think anyone with an ounce of political realism can see that Palin was the biggest internal factor in sinking the GOP-ship. Despite the economy, with a modestly intelligent VP choice, we might have been looking at close totals and recounts in select states like in 2000 and 2004. So, thanks Sarah! For helping keep this race a clear, decisive split, too big for the GOP to manipulate and cheat its way through.

Allen   November 6th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Obama Supporters,

Don't worry the old McCain will be back very soon. I heard that he has already apologized to Obama for running against him. In hopes of gaining a Cabinet Position.

SaintAlphonso   November 6th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

As a proud American patriot and lifelong liberal, I hope Sarah Palin never fades from the repub scene because this idiot woman represents everything that is wrong about the party of failure, incompetence and hatred. She will guarantee Democratic victories as long as she's around. However, I kind of think her political career is over, as she's really stupid.

Up here in Canada   November 6th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

In Canada, we are broadcast CNN along with all the other newsfeeds. We know as much (if not more) about the US, this election, its candidates, and your policies, than American citizens. We expect a VP candidate to at least know who our Prime Minister is. During the radio prank by Marc-Antoinne Audette, a comedian in Canada, he referenced PM of Canada Stef Cars. Sarah acknowledged the US enjoys very much working with him. Our PM is Stephen Harper. Sarah can`t blame the media for her lack of knowledge.

McBarbie's lack of intelligence never ceases to amaze me! I didn't know better, I would say that she is the best example of the Didzie Blonde from the jokes! No offense, Blondes, I know we are all smart no matter our color…. and then again…. we have McBarbie!!! *LOL*

Julia   November 6th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Hah… a "miscommunication" about whether Africa was a continent. They could have said it wasnt true but instead chose "miscommunication" which means she really didnt know where or what Africa was. How stupid do you have to be.

Anon   November 6th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

That's absolutely ridiculous. Of course she knows Africa is a continent and where it is. (The rest, however…)

Michigan Democrat   November 6th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Wow…this woman really is slow.

The economy is not falling because of Obama, but because of job reports. If you didnt notice this economy started its slide about 5 years ago! Republicans looking to blame again…sore losers!

SARAH PALIN is an amazing woman who I respect. People NEED to leave her alone. God Speed Mrs. Palin.

Joanna   November 6th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

The Dow dropping (and continuing to volatile) isn't an indication of Obama's ability to "manage the economy"; he hasn't even taken office yet! The Dow's volatility can be attributed to consumer sales reports, unemployment numbers, etc. And the fact that so many investors are wiennies (don't invest in stocks if you can't handle their up/down nature or can't afford to invest long term).

aware   November 6th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Stop using this silly whisper campaign to discredit Governor Palin!

She is an authentic voice in America today mainly because she has walked the talk!

This seems to provoke the jealousy/fear that smells like more dirty politics! :(

Obama's second term campaign seems to be dovetailing right into his first term campaign!

Don't have to come out and say it in public. We all knew long time ago. Where the hell is Tucker Bounds? Go and tell both Tucker & McCain how dumb she really is. You, Republicans, tried to turn the blind eye and failed to recognize the truth that she was dumb. So, suck it up and move on. If you guys spoke up against her earlier & ditched her, you may not lose that ugly. But will still lose for sure.

I read some of the funniest comments on FOX news' blog under the article regarding Sarah Palin's future. Here are my two favoraite but please check it out if you want a good laugh:

1. Comment by LAS: i sure hope she comes abck in 2012!! She is very smart. I cant even imagine being a governor, mother of five, a wife, having son over seas and more……it’s amazing how she can handle it all!!

2.Comment by OinkIndy: The GOP better include Sarah Palin in any future plans or they’ll have a huge problem on their hands! I voted for John McCain because of Sarah Palin!!

LMAO

Jerome   November 6th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Sounds like a bunch of odiots judging other idiots to me. It's sad that the entire nation based their decison on race and gender when a presidential election should be about the person who has the right experience and character. But please go on about how girlie or how old the candidates were if that makes you feel better. At least a minority has finally been given a chance. I'm sure it won't be long until the media starts trashing him too. It's funny how much people allow the media to control their decisions in life.

Small Businessman   November 6th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

branbeth   November 6th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

I have read these comments for a while and I see that most naysayers of Obama are still a little salty from his victory. I also know what every intelligent american knew about Sara Palin; thus the reason for the interview questions. I also know that because naysayers are not very intelligent and because they are a bit bigoted, racist and very one sided it's not worth reacting to their comments. I am just estatic about an Obama/Biden Presidency. America we are now in capable and steady hands. don't worry be happy.

karen canada   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Why does this woman attract such wrath and abuse.?? I think it may be because people are so angry that McCain and his advisers thought that they could offer such a shallow and inexperienced person to the general public and that they would buy it !! Thinking the electorate so ignorant and shallow that they would not notice that this woman was woefully inadequate. I would be angry too!!!!!

Allen   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

To: John McCain,
Sara is the only reason some of the Republicans bothered to show up and vote. You gave us no reason to vote for you. When someone spoke against Obama they were condemed by you. Where are you now? Why are you not defending Sara as strongly as you defended Obama. You lost because you are a Rino not because of Sara.

Palin 2012

True Blue Ohio   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Palin isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. I do not like the manner in which she conducted herself during the campaign, but I do feel as though she is being unfairly blamed for the political demise of McCain and the GOP.

FORMER GOP   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Please Alaska, impeach this corrupt diva!

Charlie Bradley   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

at least now I know what was going on behind her facial expressions that night. She didn't look disappointed over the loss so much as she looked like a spoiled BRAT of a child whose parent had just scolded her. Sarah knew way in advance that there was a chance McCain was going to select her as his runnin' mate and she had plenty of time to study foreign policy and everything else she needed to study to be able to live up to McCain's confidence in her. At any rate anyone who can't handle an interview with Katie Couric of ALL people, needs to grow a set or go back home!!!

Bill R   November 6th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Go ahead, take one last shot on Sarah and us Republicans. We're applying for protection under the Endangered Species Act tomorrow anyway.

By the way, I will support and respect our new president, just like I've supported and respected each president whose been in office during my lifetime. I do so because I love our country and I respect the office of the President; regardless whether or not I agree with his politics. It makes me wonder what would happen if every American would do that.

I've got my hand on my wallet because I'm not sure what the liberal freshman Senator from Illinois will do with the keys to the White House (and both houses of Congress), but that doesn't mean that I'll be spitting hate and venom at the man. OK, back to the Obama victory celebration with random hate-filled, disrespectful attacks on President Bush, etal.

A Bower   November 6th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

The time to discuss Palin's lack of intelligence and experience would have been before she was chosen as the vice presidential running mate. We got what we deserved for allowing this to happen. Who ever heard of Palin before this? Choosing her to try to get the Hillary votes was a huge mistake that we will be paying for until 2013.

Saby   November 6th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Its not about Palin its about the republicans They believe they have the right to rule .. and they believe that rest of the people who dont go with them are either stupid or not patriotic or may be aliens.. well they know now it is quite opposite. And while reading responses from Repubs in this blog I can just smile and feel sorry for them that they still can't get over the fact : you are being sold for cheap by your party .. look inside yourself .. learn and grow

Uma in Liverpool, UK   November 6th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

To everyone who wants people to stop 'picking on Palin', why can't you control yourselves from saying something snarky about the President-elect, or about the 'liberal media' in the same posts?

No, she didn't ask for the job. She didn't turn it down, either! Even though she had no idea what the Vice-President does, she didn't say, 'can you define the job for me?' before accepting.

This is not all pure 'scapegoating'. It's honest disbelief, that someone could be so clueless…. about more or less everything.

I don't blame Sarah Palin for being provincial… the only thing is most hicks KNOW they are hicks.

I think the pulling her out of a top-hat, right after the Obama speech and the DNC, which was a HUGE enthusiam-generator, was an amazingly effective PR stunt. It took the focus off the DNC, and made everyone start talking about her! Not only was that pretty manipulative and cynical, on the part of the McCain campaign — for which HE is responsible — but it seems very unfair to HER.

She wasn't up to the task, but she did serve the purpose of hauling attention onto his basically flat campagn. IMHO, McCain's ambition got the better of his nature, during this campaign. It was his last chance, to achieve something he's wanted so badly, for so long, and he's always been an ambitious man.

When he was not campaigning, or in a pressure situation, like a debate, the John McCain I used to like and respect showed through. Lots of sense of humour, and basically very decent, but committed to his beliefs, and yes, he bites.

He just wasn't ok… wasn't himself, the longer the campaign went on, and especially because of the enthusiasm gap. I wish him peace… but I don't know if he'll find it. He's always been a restless, peripatetic, ambitious man, and now he's a thwarted one. That's gotta suck.

I honestly think he might have been an ok President, but once he picked Palin for VP, he chained himself to the far-right, where he was uneasy. Nobody can govern from a position that is unnatural for him.

ROFLOL to the person who said 'They DO eat their own'.

Karl   November 6th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Palin is whining yet again about the media, I noticed. Get over it, Bubble Head. The only "gotcha" trap was your own mouth, and you stepped in it every time with your incoherent and your below 90 I.Q. comments. The media went easy on you, e.g. hardly a word about your ethics violations, abuse of power, in Alaska, and then your lying about the findings of your legislative committee. And if you can't manage the media, you can't lead. And nobody wants a whiner leading the world.

Bill   November 6th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

The election is over. No need to beat Palin up anymore. The anonymous sources could be full of it, and Palin can't defend herself against anonymously provided anecdotes. Isn't it enough that Obama (who at one time in the primary debates, thought there was a president of Canada) was elected POTUS? Isn't it enough that Joe Biden (who thought they had TVs during the great depression) was made VP. Quit picking on Palin and in a short while buyer's remorse will set in with the ticket that was elected, and you will have them to bash.

Keith in DC   November 6th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

The mistake that McCain made was trying to be someone other than John McCain. I do not think that Palin was his first choice for the VP spot. One thing that this decision showed was that McCain did not have that much control over his operation.

rick   November 6th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

I love this lady and hope she stays on the national scene for quite some time. Given the current state of things, we will need the laughter she provides. As a Democrat, I am praying that the Republican party congeals around her. If she is the best you got, you are in even worse shape than the election results suggest.

Jason   November 6th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Hey, if you ask me the GOP was simply running with what was a winning formula in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections when they put Palin on the ticket – that being a formula to put up a candidate who is an absolute and utter idiot…..

Congratulations America on finally coming to your senses after not once but twice electing a man who, in my opinion borders on being intellectually retarded, to lead your country.

Obama is someone who carries the vision and integrity to do your country proud.

Jason, Sydney Australia

Democrats can only dream that the future of the Republican party is the know nothing Bible beating Sarah Palin. Pretty, dumb, trophy wife with enormous hooters, just what those white male voters would love to have at home and voted for in huge numbers. 364-173 would be the Electoral College vote count every year an empty headed bimbo like Palin was on the ticket. Independents and Moderates, which voted for G.W. in 2000 & 2004 will not vote for a fundamentalist whack job like Palin.

djak   November 6th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

In all honesty, the fault lies solely on John McCain and his vetting team. She did what they asked her to do, take on the "attack-dog role". She went about it poorly because she is inexperienced in national politics.

Also, my mother taught me, if I can't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. So on the subject of her character and views, I say nothing.

G.R.I.T. - Girl Raised in the South   November 6th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

To everyone on here who says that it is the campaign's fault or McCain's fault; that the Republican Party put her on a national stage when she wasn't ready, that "they chose her" – get a clue. The job of Vice Presidential candidate is optional, it is a choice that SHE made to accept an offer. Yes, the offer should not have been made and exemplifies the tactic of getting unthinking women to vote based on gender, but Ms. Palin accepted the job, didn't blink as a matter of fact, and failed miserably. This is not the campaign or McCain's fault. She wasn't ready and she should have known that. No one held a gun to her head and forced her to do something against her will. She was so sure of herself and her appeal to voters that she jumped at the chance to further her political career.

Bill   November 6th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Your show has moved me to comment. Isn't it time for CNN to focus on the real issues facing our country like a strategy to get the economy going instead of the petty mistakes all the candidates have made, Obama visiting all 57 states, Biden's 3 letter word J O B S, McCain/Palin infighting, etc.? Cut the side shows and help save the ship.

We already know Sarah Palin was not ready for primetime. She only has a degree in journalism after switching colleges 4 times. She doesn't know the role of VP based on Katie Couric's interview. She doesn't even know what newspapers and magazines she reads. She's a female Dan Quayle. The only place she's popular is Alaska – and that's exactly where she should stay PERMANENTLY – the state that wants to re-elect convicted felon Ted Stevens. Alaska deserves Palin!

This woman went to 6 colleges in 5 years to get a bachlors's degree. so when they where teaching about the continent of the world she was switching schools. she is no more ready to run this country than a moose. she needs to return to school and take some geography, history and other courses. she is just not ready. hopefully she will stay in alaska and keep an eye on russia. lol.

FactCheck   November 6th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

To be honest, this has been bitter-sweet for majority of us Republicans. On one hand we end up with Obama, but on the other hand we don't have to see McCain/Palin ever again. We got "dissed" by McCain throughout the campaign and years leading up to the campaign. However, after every insult, we had to stand behind McCain because there was no other option (when he favored the bailout, when he picked Palin, etc). We did everything we could – but ultimately it was the McCain and his "maverickism" that brought him down. McCain-Kennedy didn't buy him Hispanic votes, and McCain-Feingold didn't let him buy… well…anything else.

This is the smartest thing I have heard from a Republican in quite some time.

Dayahka   November 6th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Palin did not select herself; that she was not a perfect and docile candidate is McCain's problem, not hers. The blame for Palin should be laid at McCain's door. In fact, I think McCain is guilty of reckless endangerment of the USA by selecting Palin, who is clearly an unqualified badly educated ignoramus who would have been a danger to the country. McCain should either resign his senate seat or be charged with reckless endangerment and be kicked out of the senate.

S   November 6th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Wow, they are really throwing her under the bus. I knew this was going to happen, that is why they chose someone with no experience. They expected her to do the dirty work, and speak only when they gave the green light. If she were smart she would have figured this out. This is the man and campaign platform that millions of Americans chose? You have got to be kidding me. I am so glad I voted Obama/Biden.

CanIcallyouJoe   November 6th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I voted for Obama, and even though he won by a landslide…
…folks, we dodged a bullet here.

I cringe at the idea of this woman being able to control the fate of this nation…

Spirit   November 6th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Maybe Barry is still under the belief that are economy was sound – well until Obama got elect.

John McCain pick Palin to get the angry Hillary backers vote, she was also his …"see I like and understand regular folks'. I feel that moron "Joe the (unlicensed) plumber did as much damage if not more than Palin. I would also like to know if he got any money and how much from the GOP.

I feel had McCain ran his campaign as congenial as his concession speech I could have more respect for him. I was also put off by the repetition of "The Mac is Back", his service to his country, country first, drill baby drill. The thing that sunk his campaign was his statement the "the enconmy is sound" made only hours before Paulson rushed to the White house like chicken little….the sky is falling or in this case the economy, I need 700 billion dollars to fix it or we are doomed.

JACKED-UP-POLITICS, FLORIDA   November 6th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

IT IS AMAZING HOW PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO JUSTIFY PALIN'S CLOTHING SPENDING WITH OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN SPENDING. PLEEEEEEEEEEEZE.

THE MONEY THAT OBAMA UTILIZED FOR HIS CAMPAIGN WAS DONATED BY EVERY DAY PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF AND I FOR ONE HAD NO ISSUES AT ALL WITH HOW WELL HE SPENT IT. BUT……..
PALIN'S 150k + SPENDING SPREE. GIVE ME A BREAK AND THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT THE PARTY OF CUTTING SPENDING :)

Dave in Maryland   November 6th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Well, she was good for California, Holywood, Tina Fey and SNL. She's just not qualified to be a part of our National Government Structure. I hope she does well in Alaska.

Terry   November 6th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

You know if McCain won we would of never heard of this just tells you what kind of man McCain is and what Palin could be like four years from now. We must do everything we can as voters to make sure this women does not come any closer to the being president.

Larry of Boston   November 6th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

The unnamed sources ranting on Governor Palin are a binch of insects hiding in the dark. If they had any integrity or guts, they would come out of the shadows and give a public interview. Anyone that hides in the dark like a rat and spits out these comments is not fit to be heard – they are nothing more than weak, inconsequential, and spiteful children ….CNN could do us all a favor by stop publicizing stories like this from unnamed sources. CNN should come clean and make their little rat sources come out of the dark and speak in public,. Otherwise – nobody should listen to these slanderous stories

bookwyrm43   November 6th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

I would really like to see McCain's staff to be a little more professional. The election is over what good does it do to behave like teenagers. It sounds like sour grapes as when we were in high school. I certainly would not hire either of these two staff members if I were ever in a position to need an election staff.

shanecomeback   November 6th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

According to Fox News, this dolt didn't even know the three countries in North America and didn't know which countries were involved in NAFTA!! Bill O'Reilley tried to brush it off by saying that she could be tutored in this stuff. Is he sharing Rush's meds?? My 6 year old daughter knows more about civics than Palin. Please go back to Alaska and keep hunting moose.

RLS   November 6th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Oh my- will it never end about her debacles? Who cares? The country spoke loud and clear on Tuesday. I was never a fan of the way the McCain/Palin ticket ran, and voiced it by voting for the better person to lead us. Enough with her ignorance-Maybe she can get busy with Alaksa and do whatever the devil it was she was doing before saying yes to a position she clearly was not ever going to be prepared for.

Cinnamon   November 6th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

McCain's camp essentially commited political suicide. I'm sure they knew the minute Obama became the nominee that McCain would never prevail. So they picked Palin, knowing full well she wasn't qualified, they knew the press would destroy her, and they could pin the blame on her when the GOP lost. Perfectly executed exit strategy.

JACKED-UP-POLITICS, FLORIDA   November 6th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Palin is so AGRESSIVE and demanding. IT IS ALWAYS HER WAY OR NO WAY. SHE WOULD NOT BE A GOOD LEADER BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE A ABILITY TO SEE ANY OTHER VIEWS OTHER THAN HER OWN AGENDA!!!!

Mike from Chicago   November 6th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Uh huh, how can you say O is just a community organizer? How would you know? According to most Rep., he hasn't done anything. Quite the leap.

Barry and others, if you think the president has anything to do with the stock market, you are just exploiting your ignorance.

Willa   November 6th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

For those of you who voted for McCain/Palin and they lost. I feel your pain and dissapointment. For those of you who choose to vent your anger by blaming the bad stock market on Barack Obama….please don't…..your ignorance is showing.

rk   November 6th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Why blame Palin? Palin was being herself, she is jovial and vibrant woman and yeah she is not upto being a potential VP candidate in 2008 but she is probably fine as Alaska Governor. It is totally McCain and McCain’ team ‘s fault to recruit her, it shows their bad judgment and the so called Mavericks did not put country first but their greed to win the election by taking low road. So, leave Palin out of this blame game and toss McCain to the top of the list!!!

Erik   November 6th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I'm more then disappointed to here the accounts of Sarah Palin not being ready to be Vice President. My issues is this notion of Country first. I respect John Mccain and what he has done for this country, but him knowingly trying to sell this country a lemon. Thats not putting country first. Dressing her up teaching how to sit and covering up inabilities. Thats just scary. To those that bought it not totally your fault you trusted in his commendable heroism. It one thing to misjudge its different to knowingly mislead. I just think of what could have been and thank GOD what has come to be.

Morgan   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

How can you miscommunicate whether Africa is a continent and pointing it out on a map? haha I could only imagine this conversation much like the Katie Couric interview. The sad thing is that this is a smear from republican to republican. The media is just reporting the new reality show "Maverick vs Maverick".

Rosemarie   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

To McCain/Palin supporters: We've been eating feces for 8 years. I didn't order pizza and beer. I ordered champagne and caviar and I got it. Pull your heads our of your butts and get an education. You might even be able to find Africa on a map.

Les, Utah   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Most of the comments above fall into the categories 'sore losers' and 'gloaters' as is ti be expected. Too bad they cannot follow the leads of their two leaders, I really lost of respect for McCain for his 'low road' tactics, but regained some of it for the obviously most-gracious concession speech, and Obama's acceptance speech should be required for study by students trying to learn what America should be.
As for Sarah, she wasn't and isn't even way out in left in the league she was drafted into. She was outside the park (way out) in all facets of her abilities. And to say she is a decent person stretches the facts as much as she did re Obama, all the lies and innuendos she ranted endlessly.

Terry, Dallas Texas   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Ok everyone. It's over now. Palin has gone back to Alaska and McCain will be like Kerry before him and go back to the senate.

It's time to get behind our new president and start getting our country moving again. If your guy lost accept itand move on. If he won then take a moment to enjoy but then its time to quit arguing and move on.

Jim   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Sarah puts the ick in maverick. Good riddance and I hope you donate your fancy clothes to a homeless shelter in Alaska. Time for her to move on and get an education for her children, instead of travelling around with her at taxpayers expense. The stories about her won't end, I think the media will be hearing more about her rage and having to be in control.

Good riddance!!!!

Pinay   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Stop bashing her. She tried her best.

LAVoter   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Geez….this makes Bush look smart!!! This level of intelligence definitely quailifies her to run on the Republican ticket…

TIFFANY J   November 6th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

As a young Republican voter it is sad and disheartening that the McCain and Palin campaigns are arguing like teenagers. The lack of tact and need to justify and blame the loss is immature. I am not sure what the gripping would do- other than make one second guess all the support that we had for them. I am a proud Republican and believe in the McCain platform- but am ashamed at the recent behavior of the campaign and hope that no one uses it as a direct reflection on McCain himself. I support Palin and wish her well in the future. She has had such a rough time in the public eye.

Brent PDX   November 6th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

@Marc PDX… I didn't know non-thinking ignorant people like you existed in Portland. Maybe its time to unite and try to solve our problems together, not work against the ones that are trying to make a selfless effort. I wish that you wouldn't be so selfish and only think about your bottom line. You are probably the guy that doesn't tip when you go out, drives a Hummer and makes fun of the homeless. Its time to think about unity and WAKE UP! There's many global issues that we ALL need to address TOGETHER.

Lee M   November 6th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Why wouldn't the McCain people tell us the truth about her BEFORE the election?

Was this really "Country First"???

Was this just another example of republicans thinking the American people would be too dumb to see through this crap again?

thomas Otterbine   November 6th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Well, now that the election is over, and Obama is our new "president to be" I have to say I am VERY pleased!! However, John McCain gained an enormous amount of respect from me, taking accountability for his own loss.
However, Sarah Palin now is whining and crying like a spanked baby!! It just proves she was nowhere near anyone we needed, or wanted one heartbeat from the presidency. Thank god, John McCain did not win, not because of him, but the little spoiled whiny cry baby Palin!!!

Bob   November 6th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Come on who is writing this stuff. Let's put the blame where it belongs.

Either John McCain (doubtfull) or the Republican party advisors told him to pick Palin in the hopes (ha ha) of picking up a lot of HIllary's voters. NO ONE looked at her qualifications (typical Republcan). Come on Alaska! a major of a town while some high schools have more students and prinical's with more responsibilites. Governor of a state with 650,000 population! THe mayor of many cities (L.A. for example) have a MUCH larger population and MUCH more responsibly. Next time they might pick a V.P. for the right reasons.

This was a stupid choice and it cost the Republican party. Glad it happened for the sake of the country. Yea, Obama.

signed an Independent.

AK do not reelect this person Palin. For the good of this country just let her fade away.

I thought this picture was a joke at first. Is that really her office?? With the bear skin rugs draped over the couch?? The best part: the giant crab on her desk? I honestly thought this was a picture making fun of her, and it's real!!! Honestly though, a wonderful finishing touch on what has basically been a joke the entire time.

Meg from Colorado   November 6th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

RLG   November 6th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

remember when Bush was "appointed" in 2000? The market tanked bigtime. He's only responsible for what happens after he takes office. Not that the Kool Aid drinkers will ever accept anything he does as positive. You can always join your boy Todd Palin and secede- there's still time!

For the last 2 months, all we've heard from the GOP is that Sara Palin is competent and qualified to be VP. She's a maverick. She's a great campaigner. Now, she's a moron whi can't find Africa on a map, and doesn't know which countries are in NAFTA. Well, GOP which is it? How can we ever believe anything you say, ever again?

Norma Bretz   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

I am very disappointed by the way the News Media and the McCain campaign staff has treated Sarah Palin. I admire and respect this dynamic….AND if she should ever decide to run for President I would VOTE for her & volunteer to work in her behalf. I would like to see someone elected who is NOT connected to the OLD CRONIES in Washington. Also, I have a question "Why do Senators stay on & on when a president can only have 8 years"? We need a LOT of new blood in Washington D.C. ……. that is the main reason we are in such a mess, the Congress we have now has done nothing for the small families…….just "bail out" more wealthy companies.

kdrr   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Lauren,

Do you have any idea what a community organizer does? They get things done, help the less fortunate with little or no financial backing, they work tirelessly and often without pay and they do a huge service to our communities, cities and our country. Shame on you for degrading such incredible people. Better than taking a town with a population of 5000 and running up a 23 million dollar debt.

Kina, A Veteran in NYC   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

hahaha…so Gov. Palin couldn't locate Africa on a map, huh!!!…now, why ain't i surprised?…hahaha…and she didn't know Africa was a continent?..i can only say that i'm relieved that she ain't the VP of this c'try…

Kina.

Chris CA   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Really Marc? Disconnected? I believe Palin had no clue Africa was a continent. I believe she couldn't find it on a map. Isn't she the same person who seriously proffered the following as support for her claim that she had foreign policy experience, "Russia is next to Alaska". Why wouldn't I believe it? She is also the same person who took the most tenuous of relationships (if you can call them that) and tried to discredit the President-elect. I hope for her sake she is smarter than she appears, but I am not confident that is the case.

John Q. Cynic   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

I'll say something off subject; when you leave a comment, use spell checker. Self-editing. i before e….I know I need it, but I'm not the only one, as we all can see…..

Charlie Bradley   November 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

OMG who does this woman think she is? a VP has never given an acceptance speech or a concession speech. I think this woman is tryin' to single-handedly re-invent not only the republican party but also the entire political process and ceremony of the office of President and VP as we know it. This woman has now landed back in Alaska and lets hope she stays there or either learns what is and is not acceptable and comes back as a horse of a different color.

for "Smooth Barry what have you done to the market", this is just the way the market is, its got very little to do with the President Elect. the markets are volatile now waiting on the bonds to take effect for the banks next week

Kim   November 6th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Shame on you CNN. I saw your story on HLN with that reporter from Newsweek saying Sarah Palin was a Diva and a "whack job". You don't even know if some of these campaign stories are even true. Some these stories come from people close to Mitt Romney who clearly has an agenda. for the 2012 campaign

Be a real news organization for once and get Sarah Palin on to defend herself instead of finding every crack-pot journalist you can find to discredit her now that the election is over.

I hate CNN. I'd rather watch Al Jazeera. I'd have a better chance at getting some really un-biased reporting.

idiots!!!!

mla   November 6th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

The main reason to keep critical perspective on Palin is that she does have eyes for the White House.

Remember, most folks expect Stevens to stay convicted after the appeals, and the Senate will kick him out. It wouldn't be surprising for Palin to resign as governor – automatically having the Lt. gov replace her. Then, have the new gov appoint her to Steven's position in the Senate.

Also, remember that Palin went rogue on McCain and set up the call with the now known fake French president – without McCain's approval. She was totally in this for herself and her ego is huge – especially compared to her knowledge level (tiny).

Dixie AZ   November 6th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Earlier, on CNN, I heard that Palin was not authorized to purchase 150,000 dollars worth of clothing. She was told she could purchase several suits and some things for her children. Please Republicans, don't let this woman be part of your future.

Goat Roper   November 6th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

It's so great watching the Republicans eat their offspring.
Or are they gnawing off their limbs?

David Evan   November 6th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Paulin is the scapegoat for a party that blames her rather than seriously examine its false values and immoral ideas. In terms that Christians understand the party needs to be repent and ask forgiveness from God and the people. It should have recognized in Hurricane Katrina the defining moment that dispelled the fallacy of a nation that could manage itself without government help.

If Obama being president elect can't help you let your guard down, what else is it going to be that won't CHANGE?
Let the young lady alone and pick on the new VP, he made quite a few blunders himself. You should be worried about him.

Mark   November 6th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Lay off Palin…….I admit, I did not think she was a good choice for VP…….however, I suggest people lay off her, as she only answered the call from McCain to serve…..if there is blame–and their should not be–it is for the person who chose her.

This happens all the time in business…take someone who is great at their current job and promote them too quickly or to a position beyond their current capability, and then get angry that they could not do the role….

For all you critics……how well would you have done in that spotlight…..while I disagree with most of her positions…..she did amazingly well considering her lack of national experience….most of us would have been laughed off the stage….

Please keep Sara Palin in Alaska, and preferably out of politics
Thankfully the rest of the nation also felt the same way.

Check your spelling.

Accept the fact that the American people voted for their choice. McCain probably would have won if he had let "Tinker Bell" (Palin) stay in Wonderland. Even the Republican Party said she didn't even know where Africa was on the map – DOH. All those years in college, I guess she skipped Geography 101.

Regardless both parties did an outstanding job for campaigning and again the people made their choice. Also God don't like ugly!

I am soooo happy she got sent back to Alaska… maybe there she can be happy being a hockey mom with her pregnant daughter!!

OBAMA!! 08-12

branbeth   November 6th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

I have read these comments for a while and I see that most naysayers of Obama are still a little salty from his victory and that will always be. I also know what every intelligent american knew about Sara Palin and that was the reason for the interview questions and the naysayers were going to be mad about that as well. I also know that because naysayers will are not very intelligent and because they are a bit bigoted, racist and very partison they are not worth reacting to their comments. I am just estatic about an Obama/Biden Presidency. America we are now in capable and steady hands. don't worry be happy.

Mike, Albany   November 6th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Let's see, she didn't know

1. the the name of the Canadian Prime Minister is not Stef Carse but is Stephen Harper.

2. that you cannot see Belgium from the President's residence in Paris (the Palais d'Elysee).

3. how unlikely it would be for the real French President to say:

"I just love killing those animals. Mmm, mmm, take away life, that is so fun"

4. that the porn movie called "Hustler's Nailin' Paylin" is not actually a documentary about her life.

5. that Quebec's "prime minister" is not Richard Z. Sirois.

6. how unlikely it would be for the real French President to say:

"You know my wife is a popular singer and a former top model and she's so hot in bed"

Now imagine if she had been elected and had ended up behind the desk in the oval office (collective shudders!).

Harry   November 6th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

I feel sorry for Palin. She was asked to be the VP and of course she figured she'd be able to handle the job.

I blame the guy who picked her: John McCain. It was a impulse choice and indicative of how he would have handled the job as President

Palin will go back home, having done herself no good. Particularly when she had the audacity to try and steal the thunder from McCain several times. She was not loyal to the man who chose her. She is not very smart.

Hard to understand why Palin didn't know the name of the Canadian Prime Minister considering you can see Canada from Alaska.

Truly amazing – the bloggers who do nothing to contribute to the country, but spend their days on the computer hoping for the new President of the United States of America to fail. You could be of great service to your country if you would do your part and help him to succeed. What can be gained by any of us by his failure? You need to rethink your outlook on life and become a part of the solution. John McCain would expect no less from you.

Susan   November 6th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

I said from the get go this woman would try to undermind McCain but everyone thought I was nuts!!! Another reason why I didn't vote republican this year….they will throw ANYONE under a bus! They picked this woman as a political stunt hoping she would save them and get them into the White House AGAIN, when it didn't work, they are trashing her and throwing her under a bus. They used her, it's unfortunate that her ego was so large she couldn't see it….but nonetheless we will have a new leader in the White House.

Perhaps your gripes should have started with the management of the campaign (see campaign manager) and the republican nominee who picked her (see John McCain). what you should take from this joke of a campaijn is an abject lesson in how not to win an election. In 2012 try a couple of novel ideas such as:
1. a real campaign strategy
2. viable candidates
3. A focus on issues not personal attacks
4. And finally some organization
I'd recommend a good community organizer but "that one" kicked your a@# and will be busy working towards his 2nd term.
Indeed blaming Palin for this pathetic showing seems rather childish. The Palin talking head was only one part of what should go down as the most inept, mis-managed and ill concieved campaign in the last 40 years.
Republicans you have 4 years to get your act together. Good luck

Steve, New York, New York   November 6th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Senator McCain – I'm sorry -that's what you get for picking an untrustworthy "mental light-weight" like Sarah Palin.

The question the country should ask is . . . WHO FORCED Pain on you??? The same (Neo-cons) that foced Al Gore into the SHOCKINLY BAD choice of Joe Lieberman in 2000. Senator Lieberman (not Sarah Palin) truly represents what's wrong with our poitical system.

That community organizer out organized your candidate.

Read the news! Ask questions! There is more to Wall St then the Oval Office.

I suggest you learn to read the market and while at it read the book, "Secrets of the Street".

And…"So Smooth Barry"… I guess the market will be hitting ZERO pretty soon, huh??? wink wink…say no more!

rich   November 6th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

McCain & the GOP used Pallin, and she was naive enough to think she fitted the part. Now the GOP is throwing her under the bus. I quite frankly feel sorry for her. Were it not for Pallin, the McCain campaign would have been more dead than a door knob. She brought excitement to the Republican base, something McCain could not do for himself. Before Pallin was chosen, McCain crowd sizes were minimal at best; after Pallin, the crowds grew. Bottom line is this: Palin or not, the GOP & McCain would have still loss this election as Bush was unpopular, the country is suffering from war fatigue, and the economy is in the toilet. The head winds for change were too strong for any GOP presidential candidate to win. So they need to let up on Pallin. She did what she was suppose to do. If there is anyone to blame for McCain's loss, it should be McCain himself who choose her. I personally didn't care for Pallin's politics, but fair is fair. I see Pallin as a decent woman who was a republican pawn. I think she would learn and grow from this experience. And I say all the above as an Obama supporter.

Sophia in Canada   November 6th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

j   November 6th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

I don't agree with Palin's politics and wouldn't vote for her on a bet but it's unfair to blame her for McCain's loss. She wasn't properly vetted or prepared for the national political arena and that is the fault of the McCain campaign and ultimately with John McCain. Stop blaming Palin.

AS A DEMOCRAT I'M HAPPY THAT A DEMOCRAT IS PRESIDENT EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT AN OBAMA FAN. WITH NEW YORK SOLIDLY BEHIND OBAMA, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE HISTORY MYSELF BY WRITING IN SENATOR CLINTON'S NAME FOR PRESIDENT. A MOMENT NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE AWAY FROM ME. WHAT A MOMENT AFTET I PUT DOWN THAT PEN. I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL MY NEPHEWS AND NIECES.

AS FOR PALIN, HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO CONTINUE BEATING UP ON THE GOVERNOR? AS A WOMAN I WISH HER WELL AND HOPE THAT SHE GROWS FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. SHE'S AS INSPIRATIONAL TO MANY AS WAS BO.

TO BE FAIR, EVERYBODY GOT BEAT UP INTHIS CAMPAIGN, EXCEPT IT SEEMS FOR PRINCE OBAMA. WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS CAMPAIGN WAS THAT THE ELITIST MEDIA/POLICIANS/LIBERALS TOGETHER CAN MAKE OR BREAK A CANDIDATE AND BE AS VICIOUS AND VILE AS THE CARL ROVES OF CHEYNEY'S OF THE WORLD.

anonymous   November 6th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

the trouble with the arguement that the media is being unfair towards palin; all of these things are true. if the media reported things about palin that were just rumors, i would agree with them, but the fact that palin cannot find africa on a map is something that we deserve to know, especially considering how close she was to vice president.

ttMo2   November 6th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

"Two McCain sources also say Palin did not know Africa was a continent and could not find it on a map. A third source, a Palin ally, says that was a miscommunication."

—————————————————————–

Please explain, how do you "miscommicate" this? The report on Fox News stated that the aides said she thought Africa was a country! They also stated she did not even know the participicating countries in NAFTA. OMG! What if McCain had won and then croaked? We would have had a president who was less geographically literate than the average 4th grader and who didn't know that the NORTH AMERICAN Trade Agreement was an agreement between the US, Canada and Mexico! Scary stuff. I recommend that everyone should read one the best novels of the 20th century, Being There by Jerzy Kozinsky (or watch the movie by the same name). The movie starred Peter Sellers.

Art   November 6th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I am democrat and by no means am I a Palin fan. In another blog earlier this week we discussed, if McCain lost they (GOP) were going to throw Palin under the bus. As (McCain) said he is to blame for the loss and yes he is. They took a nobody tried to attract the Hillary supporters and keep her within their distance. No talking to the media but approved photo ops with world leaders. I seriously doubt there was any one as a VP would of made a difference. McCain can only blame himself for being a Bush twin!

This country's hope is on moving past the divisiveness that has haunted us for almost a decade. The election is over, in case people haven't noticed. It is now time for us to turn our attention to our country, which is going through a terrible time. The stock market is falling because the false high was built on sand and manipulation. The bubble had to burst at some point.

Sarah Palin is who she is, and I personally am not brave enough to run for office and make myself a huge target. We don't have to deal with candidacies for three more years, now, so instead of wasting time and energy attacking each other for our differing beliefs, let's move forward, remembering that our country became great through unity and nearly failed once before through bitterness and in-fighting.

obama fan   November 6th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I agree with Dana McCain aides job was to prepare her for interviews and whatever else she had to do. They did not do their job and now they are blaming Sarah. Don't get me wrong I did not like her very much but she cannot take all the blame. His aides are blaming her for their messups so they can hopefully keep a job.( not after his awful campaining.)

You want to bury the hatchet? Then stop making attacks. You libs are so pathetic… I've heard of sore losers, but you're sore winners… you can't even win gracefully.

John Mccain choose her, so throwing her under the bus because you lost is unseemly. Remember back to the convention when you and your talking heads were on every channel ramming her down our throats. Lying about how ready she was. Then the Katie Couric interview happened and the golden girl statrted to turn. Clue for 2012, properly VET your nominee, do not choose someone because they are anatomically correct, choose the most qualified who can get you more than the base !!! Bet you're sorry you didn't suck it up and go with Mitt .

No Republican…….I don't care who they were, was ever going to win this election! The country had more than enough of the Bush Regime, the Republican party and all the screw-ups….Especially the ENORMOUS financial mess & recession, that they gave us!! At this point, Iraq was almost irrelevant!!

The Democrats could have run 'BUGS BUNNY' and won this election! And guess what…..Obama knew this 3 yrs ago and started preparing himself & his team!! The hard part was going to be overcoming Hillary Clinton. The Clinton's underestimated Obama's organization! That was Hillary's downfall! I honestly thought that Bill Clinton would have been more aware of this……After all, he is a PROFESSIONAL politician!! But, it's all water 'UNDER THE BRIDGE' now!!

Now all I want to say here, ahem, is that they realized all this about this person within a few days of picking her and yet they went ahead for two months b****ing us … and risking the live possibility that she could be president of the United States at a moment’s notice after next January.

You know: I took a lot of grief for my pretty instant realization back in August that the Palin candidacy was a total farce. But when you cop to the fact that the McCain peeps knew most of that too very early on after their world-historical screw-up, you’ve got to respect and be terrified by their cynicism. I mean: country first?

Yngvai   November 6th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Too all the people who think the market tanked because of Obama:

You obviously have no understanding of how the market works. Obama's win was already priced into the market on Tuesday. People knew he would win. If investors were so scared of Obama, the market would've tanked on Tuesday. Instead, it skyrocketed.

Second, if investors were so scared of Obama, why did Wall Street donate more money to Obama's campaign than McCain?

Third, if investors were so scared of Obama, why has the stock market historically done better under Democratic administrations than Republican administrations? The average stock market gain under Dem administrations is 15%, while it's 9% under Republican administrations.

The market has tanked the past few days over economic fears and jobless worries….NOT because of Obama.

Please do your homework before coming to post hoc, ergo propter hoc conclusions.

Samantha   November 6th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Whether you like Sarah Palin, or not, I find it hard not to acknowledge that she made plenty of gaffes and mistakes. John McCain admitted that he had made some in his campaign, and let's face it, the majority of those mistakes stemmed from his VP pick. The only thing I look forward to is her going away.

Also, just a point, Americans voted for Obama because they felt he was the best choice to handle the economy. However, fixing a problem 8 years in the making isn't going to come over night. You wouldn't stop eating for a day and expect to lose 50 lbs. The market is always going up or down, mostly on pure speculation. If you want to place the blame on someone, Blame Wall St and the Bush administration.

Liz, AZ   November 6th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

This basically says it all in regard to Palin

COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?

PALIN: Well, let’s see. There’s –of course –in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are–those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know–going through the history of America, there would be others but–

COURIC: Can you think of any?

PALIN: Well, I could think of–of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I’m so privileged to serve, wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.

All style, (over $150,00 worth) and absolutely no substance.

Obama/Biden won the election; what an achievment.

As far as Palin goes, she will have to deal with her own deamons; she brought everything on herself. She should be ashamed of how she ran the campaign. She is self centered and doesn't care about anything other than pushing her own political agenda forward. Well guess what kiddo, what goes around also comes around.

Let's bury the hatchet on this election. But first let me say this. Palin had no business being on the the national stage and if she knows what is good for herself, she will fade back into the wilderness of Alaska. Second, Obam was the best candidate from the beginning. There was little to no chance McCain could win anyway. Third, the Dow is simply reacting to an unstable market that is still going on. Has nothing to do with the confidence in Obama. It will likely bounce up and down for a while. Finally, the republican party finally got their just due. This just shows good does finally triump over evil.

Palin's ignorance reflects unfortunately the average college student 'shortcomings – no clue about the world, no critical thinking , no desire to think outside of the 6 pack, but plenty of confidence and a talent for self-importance and self-promotion. It is hard to imagine that years of public service as well as these few months in the political limelight did nothing to fill her brain. She must been very proud to be the way she is, and if there is anything wrong, it must be the mainstream media of the other Americans, the smart ones.
Alaska, this beautiful state, is certainly not blessed to have such a governor. Good hibernation to La Palin.

Marc PDX, it's not liberals beating her up, it's coming from the McCain camp. Even FOX news threw her under the bus, and the stories about her temper tantrums and not knowing Africa was a continent (and not a country) came from them. Nice try, blaming the liberal boogie man for the actions of your failed presidential nominee.

Asian Woman Democrat   November 6th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Poor Sarah… so ignorant and yet so ambitious!

Wayne   November 6th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

One VERY positive thing about Sarah Palin, she makes former Vice President Dan Quayle , serving with former President George Bush, look like an absolute GENIUS!!!!!! Granted, he didn't know how to spell potato but he did know what the Vice President's job was at least, meaning that's not being over the senate like Palin told a 3rd grade student! Is her middle inital "D" by chance for Duh?

Rose   November 6th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

She was simply out of her league from the get-go and she didn't wise up along the way. I feel badly for her even though I would never vote for her. I'm sure she's a rock star in Alaska and I think that's where she should stay.

Faith Restored   November 6th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

So The Devil Wears Prada has finally returned home to continue all those "good works" Christian living ideals she left on the national stage for the true unsocialistic, non-terroist paling around "real" Americans unlike myself who is a proud "heathen" who proudly voted for THAT ONE WHO WON!!! All I have to say is FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST THANK GOD ALMIGHTY FREE AT LAST!!!

Harrison   November 6th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Palin needs to stay in Alaska. I'm sure she's a decent governor but she has absolutely no business on the federal level.

Selecting Palin was a "Hail Mary" for a campaign that knew it was falling behind early.

McCain should have booted her after the Couric interview if he wanted a chance.

Tyree,LV   November 6th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Wow, Didn't Even Know That Africa Was A Continent.
Pretty Sad.

Kish from Britain   November 6th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I have been cracking up with laughter and prayed for this day to come when Palin would be transported back to Alaska to continue her bridge to nowhere and dream of 2012…………….she wishes!!! lol

carment   November 6th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Yes, but did you know that since Obama was elected, the Dow has had a two-day total loss of 928 points. The market has no faith in Obama to manage the economy. IS THIS THE CHANGE HE PROMISED? – Smooth Barry

_____________________

I don't suppose you happened to have considered that the market isreacting to the news of retailers reporting weak sales for October and that the Labor Department said the number of people continuing to draw unemployment benefits jumped to a 25-year high, increasing by 122,000 to 3.84 million in late October. It marked the highest level since late February 1983, when the economy was being buffeted by a protracted recession.

Ever considered that the market is reacting to those kind of weak economic figures in exactly the same way it reacted before Nobember 4th? No, of course you wouldn't — it doesn't suit your narrative!

Sally Ann   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I watched a CSPAN interview (I think from Feb 2008) where Sarah Palin talks about the fact that she may be on the VP list. So, it IS her fault that she was unable to respond to normal interview questions in September. She should have started studying long ago if she thought she didn't know enough or else decline the offer. (Yes, she did have a choice.)

On the other hand, reading the blogs on the Anchorage Daily News I learned that her governing style is "just give me the bullet points".

My conclusion is that she does not value preparation, but would rather "wing it".

The maybe-leader of the free world cannot operate that way.

sharon   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

cothnsidering all of the mistreatment she received from the press , I think she did quite well….the election is over so it must be time for all of the ugliness to stop…leave Palin alone, if snyone expects the coun try to be united , I think I should be time to act like adults…Palin is certainly intelligent or she could not have aaccomplished what she has……the pettiness concerning her speech, accent, and her clothing reminds of of 7th grade, time to grow up, the election is over.

Daisy   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I do hope that Palin puts her journalism degree to good use in Alaska. We begged McCain throughout the summer to select someone with knowledge of the economy. If I ever get the opportunity to meet McCain, my only question will be "What were you thinking?"

Citizen   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Palin is dumber than Bush. Unbelievable.

Marco   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

What's extremely appalling and scary is that John McCain and the Republican Party was so ready and willing to place our country possibly into this woman's hands, knowing full well that she was a clueless individual.

They basically lied in propping her up and vouching for her so-called "experience".

This woman was nothing but a pretty face and a loud mouth who got the middle aged White Republican male all excited and aroused through her personal exploitation of these qualities. So he (like most men) in his testerone driven STUPIDITY was willing to give her the farm just as long as she was willing to continue to… "put it on me Sarah!"

An Independent   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I strongly disagree with most of her views and am very glad she's not going to be the Vice President, but given the situation she was put in, I think Sarah Palin did as well as could be expected. She simply did not (and still doesn't and possibly never will) know enough about the issues at a national level to handle running for (or being) Vice President. In my mind, the majority of the blame goes to whoever convinced McCain to pick her. (I personally don't think choosing her was his idea.)

If a star high school football player was taken straight out of high school and an NFL coach immediately made him a starter at a key position, his chances of success would be pretty close to zero. But when he failed, whose fault would it be? I'd say the coach for putting the guy in a situation that the coach should know he isn't ready for. I think what happened with Sarah Palin is pretty similar. She was in way over her head and McCain's team should have known that would be the case before they picked her.

I don't know if they couldn't find anyone qualified that was willing to join the ticket or whether they really thought women were stupid enough to vote for her solely because she's female. If it's the latter, then future candidates will probably want to avoid McCain's advisers because they made a huge mistake.

Lucky   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

This woman did not understand the protocol for much of anything. Way out of her league. I hope she runs in 2012 that would be another easy win for the Dems. She has shown herself to be an idiot in politics, other than the republican base she's done. Have fun in real America Sarah.

Uh huh   November 6th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Francis in Hawaii – funny but I was wondering the same thing about this country now learning about the real person – Obama, that is. Everyone wanted history – now you have it. But there's good history and bad history and this political infant doesn't have a clue. Be glad you're out there in the middle of the Pacific – the farther away from Washington right now, the better. Maybe Obama will forget to tax you or kill off your companies with taxes or take your own cash and give it to a surfer on the beach who has no intention of working…………………………………..

The only "drama" is coming from CNN and Newsweek, who are the biggest drama queens and running neck and neck with the whacko's on MSNBC for poor media coverage.

CNN Headline filler:

OBAMA EATS JAM ON TOAST
OBAMA WALKS FROM CAR TO HOUSE

Give it a rest.

Incredulous   November 6th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

Um, it truly frightens me that there are rumors she is the future of the Republican party. Palin has proven she is completely ignorant regarding foreign affairs, the rest of the world, and quite frankly anything outside of Alaska, so I tend to believe the McCain camp. I feel sorry for anyone who will have to clean up after her. A "miscommunication" is the polite way of trying to defend an ignoramus.

Blame Game Already   November 6th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Republicans are pitiful. They are already trying to blame the Dow going down the last two days on Obama's election victory. So what about Bush? What is he doing to curtail the down fall. Republicans will always be the same. They don't know what to do to fix a problem, so they just blame the Democrats anyway they can.

Meganephron   November 6th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Sarah Palin didn't cause John McCain to lose the election. The people who were in charge of putting together a coherent campaign for McCain need a scapegoat, hence dump on Sarah. Was she out of her league? Yes, but she didn't ask for the job. The McCain campaign was disjointed, off point and whiny. They can't look in the mirror and say "we screwed up" so they point a finger.

Actually brought some life and personality to a campaign that was sorely lacking vitality. Romney would have been a better choice, however would not have brought anything new to the table and may have actually been the more dominant personality on the ticket.

Leave Sarah alone. Let her go back to Alaska and watch the Russians for us. At least, someone will be watching.

As for the market's reaction, you can't divorce the elction from the last two days. If it had gone up everyone would be praising Obama' victory. Higher taxes (income, corporate, capital gains and death), trillion dollar give away, full control of both houses in the setting of this economy does not inspire cofidence in a recovery. I suggest macro economics to everyone to understand this. No one has ever taxed their way out of a recession. Not FDR who needed WWII to recover the economy, Not JFK, he cut taxes, Not WJC, his recovery didn't occur until after capital gains were cut and the Republicans contolled Congress. Grid lock was good to stop spending.

The ecoonomy under GWB had its longest expansion in history built partially on a house of cards setting on a foundation laid by Clinton. It will be a long slow recovery. Hopefully we won't need WWIII.

Mike, Vancouver   November 6th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Alaskan Rogue with me, me, me in the forefront not the McCain's campaign. And quite ignorant like what people call a redneck.

Ted Stevens ( convicted felon ), and Sarah Palin ( functional moron ), are now, saddly, the face of Alaskan politics.

Tina   November 6th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Did you notice they decorated her office with bright BLUE balloons???

Uh huh   November 6th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Hopeful for tomorrow – Actually the Dow (not "down") dropped for two days straight because it recognizes what Obama is planning to do to American companies and it knows what the results will be, so it's dropping to compensate. The market is always looking to the future, not the past and it can see what an Obama future will bring. And that's ugly. As for Palin? Doesn't matter now – election's over. I do find it interesting that people still feel a need to attempt to beat her up – must be a bit scared. Y'all still whipping on Hillary too?

Lost in Texas FOREVER   November 6th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Susan   November 6th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

She was not ready for this national business. Washington is a LONG way from Alaska. I hope the "base" doesn't really hope to use her next time. Their party will never recover if they keep up these antics. What a moron she proved to be.

Mark in Oregon   November 6th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Americans should breathe a deep sigh of relief knowing that the McCain/Palin train wreck did not reach its destination.

Poor Alaska , Orange California   November 6th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Palin is loyal only to herself….The price of this self-loyalty is that she is being thrown under the bus by the branch of the Republican party who want Mitt Romney in 2012. What fun it'll be watching this play out….the LDS and the crazy Evangelicals fighting for power all the while being manipulated by the powerful rich at the top of the Republican food chain.
How sad for Alaska's environment and wildlife that she is still in office.
As I said before, she and her family are freeloaders.

It ia a shame that the McCain bunch has used Mrs.Palin as thier scape goat and the blame person to why Mr.McCain lost. I did not see eye to with her on her causes or issues, but I believe for the most part she was very sincere. Honestly I feel there was a huge communication gap and thats where they failed her and John McCain.
To note I am a democrate.

The Rush Parrots in the blogosphere are at it again.

Rush Limbaugh literally in the opening of his November 6 show hammered on the idea of "The Obama Recession", and now all his little goons are repeating him verbatim.

Ditto-heads, please get a new idea from somewhere. Please.
I guess it's really easy to isolate yourself to one person's rantings when you've been instructed to dismiss all national media as "liberal".

Dave   November 6th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Kathy and others… just FYI regarding Obama's "present" votes while in the Illinois legislature.

In Illinois, each legislator has the option of voting "yes", "no" or "present" for each bill. It's common knowledge there that a "present" vote signifies some level of interest in the bill to signal to the author that they could be persuaded to vote "yes" if the bill is changed in some way. It's actually an interesting and efficient system of communication so authors of bills that go down to defeat have some sense of how to proceed. This criticism of Obama is unwarranted since he was simply following the rules of that legislative body.

a canadian   November 6th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

Yes. . . how dare she stop us from stealing Alaskan Salmon! Haha, the majority of Canadians don't even KNOW about fishing around Alaska – seriously, do you not realize what the overall worldview of Palin is?? They wanted to prank her because to us Canadians she is an even bigger joke than how the democrats (and all other intelligent pple in the US) viewed her to be. From an outsider's perspective, I, and most of my country, am just relieved you guys finally elected someone who will hopefully improve your image.

kc   November 6th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I thought she was a really bad pick. Her interviews reminded me of a job interviewee trying to handle a tough question – badly. Just some advice: THE 'TOO ALSOS' and the 'word tsunamis' have GOT to go!!! But, what I found VERY interesting is her interview after landing back in Anchorage last night. She was relaxed, funny, confident, and pretty 'with it'! So, I do have to wonder how much of the real Sarah vs the coached Sarah we actually saw and heard. Perhaps the real Sarah is a much better candidate!

HAHAHA…they should blame themselves for giving Palin legs in the first place

they should have let Palin give her concession speech….one last laugh for us to remember her by.

Phoenix   November 6th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I'm sorry, but Palin honey, if you are a pitbull you need to bit the McCain advisers. First of all, Palin was appointed, not elected. This means that someone had to offer her the position as VP. I think it is rather disingenuous for these people to point the finger at her. Palin boosted McCain's campaign during its early dark days when the base did not see any reason to support him. I think that its nerve to pretend like she was a total loss. Yes, I do not agree with her behavior in general, but I am getting bored with the attacks, and I happen to be an Obama supporter.

Crimson Tide Dem   November 6th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Palin needs to go back to what she does best – have kids and name them after breakfast cereals.

Butt… it will be fun to watch her next grab at the spotlight. I can see her doing a Judge Sarah TV Show where she dispenses frontier justice to all the Joe Six-packs, plumbers and their big-haired hockey lovin' girl friends.

Agnes Fleming   November 6th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

As a further comment, I wonder how many people watched either the speech or the video of John McCain's very gracious concession speech? If only the Palins had been so gracious. Aside from the fact that it was clear there was animosity between McCain and the Palin's — just take a look at how he shook their hands, but the stony look on Todd Palin's face was hardly gracious or appropriate. It spoke volumes about how spooky it might have been. And Sarah Palin seemed very confused at her stunning loss. I do hope the republican party of the future will be more circumspect about who it selects in the future, and I certainly would not encourage Ms. Palin as a possible leader. God help us if it does.

Too Bad   November 6th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

I put the blame on both McCain and Palin because she presented herself in the wrong way in the beginning. She came up as if she knew everything and she was going to kick butt!! However, that was short lived when she started talking and showing people she did not know anything. If she would have started out in a humble manner, things would have went different for her.

Matt   November 6th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Goes around, comes around. All this time the Republicans were hoping that they could sow division in the Democratic Party via the stoking the fires of a feud between Obama and Clinton supporters, but it didn't work and she campaigned fairly well for Obama. Yet now we see how evil turns on itself and the serpent eats it's tail. The Republcians are the ones divided as a result of their own divisiveness.

Ahhh…the luscious irony.

Joe Terrogano   November 6th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

How does this surprise anyone? Today, on NPR, i heard that Alaskan's have lost some respect for Palin. I'm sure she felt that her destiny required her to make a speech. Her self-absorption was glaringly apparent throughout her campaign. go Home Sarah and stay wawy from the cameras.

Smooth Barry, just a little clue for you, since you are obviously, uhmm…a moron (like Palin, what a coincidence). Bush is in office, and it's been crashing for two months now under your boys pathetic reign of domestic terror. Between your complete idiot Bush and the republican party allowing us to be attacked on 9/11 and now what he's done to the stock market, I would try him for treason.

Fear not though little man, WHEN Obama is ACTUALLY in the white house, he will fix it. He won't be able to undo what took Bush 8 years to destry over night, but he'll get it done.

I hope Palin becomes the republicans candidate in the future. It will be a win win situation for both parties and some. The republicans can have the person they love the most, Sarah Palin. And the democrats wont ever have to worry about losing. And the media and Saturday Night Live will have great ratings. Its WIN WIN. hope to see you in 2012 Palin. Love, your biggest fan.

Bill R   November 6th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

I'm sure that everybody knows that the VP candidates don't give concession speeches; because so many people have run for VP before. Obviously her staff didn't know that either; her national GOP-provided staff.

I do wish that Gov. Palin had been given the chance to give a speech Tuesday night. I would love to see her say something like – "Y'all can kiss my Moose hunting derriere; I'm out of here." Never have I seen a candidate more maligned by the press. It amazes me how the general public loved the woman shortly after her selection, but the media (who I believe was completely terrified by this woman) made sure to keep telling us how lousy and inexperienced she was; by the end of the campaign they had gotten a large portion of the public to agree. Heck, they even gave the woman grief for flying to Alaska to vote on Tuesday. Geez, enough already.

She provided a much needed spark to Sen McCain's campaign, and gave them the lead in major polling after the conventions. That simply would not do, considering how much we were told to love Sen Obama.

I don' t know if we in the lower 48 will ever see Gov Palin again, but I'm not ashamed to say that I like and admire the woman. I think she'll be just fine whatever she chooses to do.

And for the record, I think she would've made a wonderful VP.

Matt   November 6th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

This is why Obama won. Poor judgment on McCain's part. The RNC is getting just what they deserve. The hillybillies are looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast. This is just what they would have done to Americans IF we had given them the chance. Palin is needed at home NOT in the Oval Office.

YakRob   November 6th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

If all these things are true about Governor Palin, what was the McCain campaign thinking by selecting her for their VP candidate? What does that say about McCain's "Country First" crap? In addition, no matter how much I dislike Sarah Palin politically, this whole song and dance is disgusting and sexist – funny how she was presented to us by the republicans as above contempt – until Wednesday morning. Liars and hypocrites. How anyone can trust that party in the future is beyond me. Good luck holding your Senate seat, Mr. McCain.

Joyce in Florida   November 6th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

I will be glad when we don't have to hear or read anything about Palin again. It's over. She has her own problems in Alaska to deal with. We don't care to hear anything more about her. And if she thinks she has any chance of running in 2012, that has got to be a joke. No way, no how, and no Palin!!!!!!!!!!! I hope she gets impeached.

Sarah Palin was simply out of her league. McCain killed his chances when he picked her. He failed to secure his base when he had time and so he picked Palin for a quick fix. What he failed to realize was that he needed a long term solution.

Leo   November 6th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

I am about sick of hearing all of the Palin bashing. The election is over. I felt she handled herself pretty well under the stressful circustances. My guess is most of the bashing is coming from the liberal elite, not democratics. You people just spew hatred. Get used to her though, my guess is she will be in the Senate sooner rather than later.

Steve the Canadian   November 6th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Smooth Barry, you must be reading the same news sources that Sarah reads. Most financial analysts agree that the American economy has not yet bottomed out. So the Dow will keep dropping and Obama has nothing to do with it. You should be pointing your finger toward Bush and his misguided economic policies.

Taff Gidi   November 6th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

Granted, Palin does not see america 'like you and I do'. (her words not mine) she pals around with moos hunters and speaks with a 'gotya' and that unique wink of hers. Frankly, she did not have the knowledge or the grasp of national and international issues to run for national office right now.

That said, I think she was deeply mishandled by whoever was supposed to babysit her and show her the ropes. That took away her confidence and made her feel like a stupid blonde, forgive my french. In the end she wasn't sure of anything. She was even stumbling on things that I am sure she could have handled with her eyes closed. I am not a big fun of hers after all the mud she was slinging at Barack (or should I say the president-elect), but I think she deserves a chance to rehabilitate her image in the eyes of America.

If Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican Party, they are more than welcome to embrace her and make her their shining star. She exemplifies what Republicans truly are – narrow-minded, intolerant, power-hungry and ruthless (though always impecably dressed at others' expense). Making her their standard bearer just means Democrats will keep the White House and Congress for the long foreseeable future. Palin in 2012!!!!!

Gotta love her   November 6th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Sharon - NC   November 6th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

If she doesn't know what a VP does, how would she know that VP's don't give concession speeches. Her arrogance in setting up a call with President Sarkozy without having her staff check it out first made her look even dumber. If she weren't so arrogant, she would have been suspicious that President Sarkozy wanted to speak with her . . . through a radio station.

Just thinking....   November 6th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

The GOP is going to have to re-define itself. If they choose the path of Palin, catering to the extreme right wing, they will not survive.
The reality is – there is another choice. Supposedlly the GOP is supposed to be about "small government." They aren't. If those in the GOP studied the platforms carefully, they would find the Libertarian attends to those historic principles without the religious overtones. In fact, the Libs support the SEPARATION of church and state, as the constitution sets forth. Perhaps it is time for the Libertarians to rise and the GOP to fall.

Obama's rise is historic – his time is here. There are many lessons for us and we will examine many things because of this election. Perhaps even the re-examining of the GOP.

Allen, Jacksonville, Florida   November 6th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall John Edwards giving a mini speech on election night in '04. It wasn't a concession speech, but it certainly wasn't a victory speech either. Kerry's concession came the following morning.

Megan   November 6th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

All you sheep voted him in and now life will be wonderful. Money will fall from the trees and gas will over flow. As for this McCain and PALIN supporter I will let history play out. I might not like Obama but he is ALL OF OUR PRESADENT and we should support him. Now that being said I must add if he messes up like I think he will I will expect all of you who backed him to admit you where wrong and like wise if he proves me wrong I will be the first to admit it, and back him in the next election.

McCain should be barred from entering the Senate.

Biden said "jobs" is a three letter word at a rally in September, tells a wheelchair bound state senator to "stand up, Chuck", said Clinton is a better VP candidate than him, told us that FDR went on TV after the '29 crash (whoops – no TV and Hoover was Prez in '29) AND YOU THINK PALIN HAS NO CLUE???

Agnes Fleming   November 6th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

I honestly wish people would let Sarah Palin to go back to from whence she came. Far from the brightest star in the galaxy, let her read what has been written about her over these last few months and learn something about what leadership means; she simply does not have the qualifications. The more I have learned about sarah Palin the more I realized she was nothing more than a spoiled hooligan. While her father taught her and encouraged her how to hunt, he does not appeared to have instilled in her the finer qualities of interacting with individuals in a mannerly way. Take her first comment in the VP debate when she said to Joe Biden, her elder, "You don't mind if I call you Joe, do you?" and then "say it ain't so Joe. Where on earth did Alaska get this one out of, and it should not have released her before she learned that politeness is not to be confused with political correctness. That was President Elect Barack Obama epitomized and it is why he won: the dignity and poise by which he carried himself, and he had to need to be contemptuous toward his elders as he sought their advice and counsel. He certainly would have known that losing, failed VP candidates do not get to give concession speeches. My God, she didn't know that either.

Mark T   November 6th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Pres Obama is the right person for the US and the world. I hope he uses the bottom up theory he professess during th campaign as this is the only way the world will move forward. The rich are so stupid dont they see then when more people are earning the richer they become

Fred   November 6th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

McCain's campaign people should've properly vetted Sarah Palin…

Skeeve   November 6th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

While I have no love for Palin and ignorance she demonstrated during this campaign was appalling I think I would like to draw a line right there.
I have a feeling that certain GOP operatives and supporters are trying to find a scapegoat. You know, it is always so much easier to blame a single simple factor (a single person's even better) then try to correct systemic problems.

SANTE   November 6th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Janel, St. Paul, MN   November 6th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Can't express how thrilled I am that Barack Obama was elected.

That said, I wish everyone would let Palin and her family alone. Certainly–despite the millions of Americans who felt she was not experienced enough–she was indeed chosen by McCain to run as VP.

The Palin family has to deal with the GOP defeat, and it is cruel of McCain supporters and others to blame her for the outcome.

F.Johnson.   November 6th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

President Bush is still in the White House , smooth Barry. You should at least wait until Jan 21 to start blaming our new President-elect for all of the Bush/Cheney bad judgements. That is Jan 21,2009. Maybe that is a difficult concept for you. But if you find a calender and a third grader. am sure they could help you figure it out.

GOP Lost   November 6th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Can't believe the GOP is even mentioning her name for anything in the future how dumb are these people.

Amy   November 6th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

What are McCain's aides trying to convey? That Palin was an egotistical idiot? Or perhaps that McCain lacked serious judgement by picking her as his running mate? Or that their own campaign was a joke? McCain's aides can bash Palin all they want, but it just makes Republicans look even more stupid!

We all agree that Palin is an idiot. And we can thank God she wasn't elected VP. Now, it's time to quit talking about her and let her go on and live her life in Alaska. Seriously, the more you talk about her, the more her name will live on. I don't want to hear her screaching voice in 2012! Just let it rest!

Alaska   November 6th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Everyone should give Sarah Palin a break. She is an honest person who made just one mistake. She trusted the American people to actually she through the political garbage that is Washington DC. She says what she believes and trusts people to actually do the right thing. And she proved she's just an ordinary person who cares about her country. Any body might have gotten pranked it just happened to be her because the Canadians knew that would make the news and they are just mad because she has stopped them from stealing Alaskan Salmon. As for me, I say the republican and democratic parties should let her lead, then we might get somewhere. She is making our state a great place to live and raise a family.

Ready to move on   November 6th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

It would be great if we could all move on now. There is much to be done to get this country moving again and the longer we play the blame game, the longer it will take to get things on the right track.

You did not have to vote for McCain/Palin, but you should respect the fact that millions of Americans did support them and are entitied to have a difference of opinion.

FreeNLovIt   November 6th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

To Smooth Barry

When a person goes into a coma, can you resurrect that person in two days? Our economy is brain-dead and Obama will need to spend some quality and decisive time, to RESURRECT it from the dead.

Michael, Houston Texas   November 6th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

And the finger pointing begins. Funny to see all you McCain supporters now turn your back on him. For all you Palin sympathizers, she was never qualified in the first place. How she got elected Govenor in Alaska still baffles most of America. I guess they think differently up there. All this hype about Palin 2012 is exactly what it is, hype. She more than likely will not be re-elected Govenor so she best chance to stay in politics is to appoint herself Senator once they kick old boy out. She will not even make it through the RNC Primaries in 2012 especially if Jindal runs. And to the former McCain staff, it's your own fault, you and your boss gave in to the NeoCons and you deserve everything you got. This country is no longer controlled by the far right or the far left. We are a society of moderates some conservative leaning, some liberal leaning, but nevertheless in the middle. Until the Repubs realize that, you will keep losing.

crystal mitchell   November 6th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

This is a result of a leader that can't lead. This whole campaign was full of confusion, and where there is confusion there you find strife. McCain did not vet her, he did what he normally do and that's to act first and ask questions later. He didn't know Palin, but he was willing to past her off to the American people as a possible VP. Crazy, well , I'm glad we as Americans did the right thing for this country, and that we did not allow properganda to deter us from what is correct and noble.

Jaye   November 6th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

She had no business being chosen in the first place. She was a former beauty queen with no education or experience.

California Gold   November 6th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

I'm still amused by Palin. Watching her stand behind McCain as he delivered his concession speech was like watching a kid ready to snatch the piece of candy. I thought to myself "My God she's gonna give a follow-up speech" and the akward shuffle by both the Palins was funny. I thought if McCain hadn't turned to her and shook her hand she might have made a run for it (microphone). In the end she was still a source of amazement for her arrogance and ignorance of simple protocol. What a bozo.

FAYE, NV   November 6th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

The night of her convention speech, which she read well, I and my sister said then that John got something on his hands. That Sarah would want to take over and not listen. She would be trouble for her party and some desparate ones would love her, however in the end she would prove her motives is self and John's party would be damaged.

Kate   November 6th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

I saw her press conference upon her arrival in Alaska lastnight. It's clear that she is happy to be out from under the McCain staff. It is absolutely a disgrace that the McCain staffers are only trying to do some CYA. These staffers are cowards making so called 'anonymous' comments to the media.

Delihla   November 6th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Barry you are beyond an idiot…in fact, I almost would believe your real name is TODD PALIN!

Gregg - MD   November 6th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Poor Sarah, she got the end of a bad deal… She had no transition time herself to get up to speed on the endless protocols within politics. Though I am an Obama supporter, I really felt bad for her, because no one deserves the type of ridicule she experienced without being "trained"… But then again, it reflects the blunder of the Republican Party in this election.

People. The election is over. Palin was a good joke and I hope she goes back to her mooses and wolfs…. As someone told, if there is such a thing as Karma, she will be back as a wolf being hunted from the air.

For the sore losers still crying over Obama's victory,:

If you can't be gracious in defeat like your candidate McCain and come join the work to be done, go drown your frustrations in beer. Leave the rest of the people wanting to go forward alone.
Hide in the shadows rooting for your new president to stumble or your country downfall if all that you wish for now is an opportunity to come back and cheer up in revenge.
That's an idea too: Move to Alaska, take the Palin 'energized base' with you and join the separatist party. She can become your queen and you will live happy. Have a good trip!

Former Republican in TX ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   November 6th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Has this woman never even watched the TV coverage on a Presidential election night???? If she had, she would know the protocol is for the two Presidential candidates to speak– one to make a concession speech, the other a victory speech.

gpraz   November 6th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Can't make up my mind. Is she the dumbest person ever to run for VP or is the Republican Party even dumber for picking her. It won't even go away when it is suppose to! I feel kinda bad for her. She is making a fool out of herself. She does seem like a decent person but so glad we don't have to pray that John McCain remained in office. The thought scares the living heck out of me.

Well since being able to see Russia from your porch qualifies you in world affairs. Now that I am flying Hang Gliders, do I get to fly a raptor?

As far as market goes. How on earth do you connect a loss in the market to a man who will have no effect on the economy for a couple months yet? So who do we blame for the 40% loss over the past month? I hope he gets a hold of this 700B bailout. I dont know about other taxpayers, but I seriously do not feel like funding Mergers and Acquisitions when they are supposed to be lending my own money back to me.

Loved the SNL skits… "Id like to use a lifeline".

ST   November 6th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

To Smooth Barry, What have you done to the Market?

You haven't been paying attention, have you? The market has been crashing for 2 months now. Obama had nothing to do with it. People are just panciking when they shouldn't.

As for the subject at hand, McCain is to blame here, not Palin. He chose her without properly vetting her and he got what he deserved. Maybe this will be a lesson to others, run a better campaign and surround yourselves with good, smart people.

Dina Phila., Pa   November 6th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

No so Smooth Barry,

Ur an idiot! Barack Obama is not in office and has no control over what's happening on Wall Street! This up and down has been going on since 9/15/08! More importantly, it has been happening for almost eight years while George W. Bush has been President! It took almost eight years for the economy to Crash! Now you expect President Elect – Barack Obama to fix the economy before he's even sworn in as President?! Even more importantly, when he does get in office, you expect the economy to just jump up 2,000 points and all of the 900,000 people all will have jobs again, Right!

I don't see how people could even relate to John McCain and vote for a man that has 9 houses and 13 cars, and tons of money…..things you don't have! He's a millionaire! He can't relate and wouldn't fight for any of us! He left his first wife hanging high and dry after a car accident to be with a woman with millions. Where's his ethics? If I was a Republican, I would have either voted for Barack Obama or a third party! I would have never voted for John McCain! He's an old, out of touch, idiot!

Get a Life!

Joe The Engineer   November 6th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

They where talking on O'Reilly and it was reported that Gov. Palin thought Africa was a counrty not a continent. They said that she did not understand the concept of a continent. It was also reported that she could not name the countries that makeup north american continent. Duh-Canada, US, and Mexico.

She is soooooo dummmmmmmb!

Ben   November 6th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

With the campaign is over and lost, it's not surprising that most of the negative press about Gov. Palin is being generated not by Democrats or other detractors, but by the now defunct McCain campaign. To extend Palin's own metaphor, now that the pitbull has lost the dog fight, its handlers have to decided to take it out back and shoot it.

Vahagn   November 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

The Stupidity of the Republicans

I'm sorry, please, for once, tell me one positive thing that this administration has done? One positive thing? If you say we're safer than we were in 2001 that is nothing other than pure delusion. Clinton didn't catch Bin Ladin and he attacked in 2001. Bush didn't catch Bin Ladin, and if he attacks again, it won't be Obama's fault, it will be Bush's. If you think it is Obama's because he will be the sitting president than It's fair to blame Bush for the Worst Economic collapse of the century and the worst attack on our land in 200 years.

Either way Bush has done nothing good for this country. Even the social issues of abortion and gay marriage that Christians believe to be so important weren't stopped by George Bush.

Not one good thing did the Republicans do over the past 8 years.

Only the delusional people think otherwise.

Diane   November 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

People…….it is over. Get over it and move on. What possible point is there in this ridiculous chain of comments other than ongoing ugliness. This is what has ruined politics for many people such as myself.

Dana   November 6th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

I did not support McCain or Palin. She is far too naive for the White House (at this stage of the game, of course) and has no clue about protocol. That said, who are the McCain camaign advisors to gripe about anyone's shortcomings? These advisors were responsible for Palin's schedule and either dropped the ball on advising her not to take the call, or are trying to cover their collective rear ends after giving her the go-ahead without verifying the call was authentic. If the campaign advisors are worried about their furtures, they should look to their own incompetence and correct it.

She couldn't name the 3 major countries in the NAFTA treaty. I'm sorry but I expect this basic level of knowldege in the executive branch.

Anyone saying that Obama is the cause for the dow dropping the last couple of days doesn't know much about the financial markets. The markets are respdonding to new reports on job losses, frozen credit markes, a retreating GDP. The markets are extremely volatile and they have been that way for months now.

It is obvious that the GOP is out of touch with Republican voters.

dan   November 6th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

With several articles today about Sarah Palin and Joe Lieberman, I searched back for articles on McCain picking a running mate. It is really interesting to read what people were thinking about leading up to events, like his choice. I found an article where the relative merits of McCain picking Joe Lieberman or Tom Ridge for VP were discussed. The far right were dead against either one, because both are pro-choice. Rush Blowhard chimed in talking about how it would be a fatal mistake to pick either of them, because they would alienate the Conservative base. So look at what happened. They chose Sarah Palin, who energized the base. The problem is, Conservatives must have thought that their base was much bigger than it is. While they energized their base, they alienated the vast majority of voters. Was any of this Sarah Palin's fault? No. Yes, she is vastly unqualified to be VP or President, but John McCain should have known that.

Bridgette-PA   November 6th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

"Smooth Barry, What have you done to the Market?"- Are you bored? Do you not have a life? I suggest you find one. Everyone knows that the market has nothing to do with OBAMA being elected. DebM, Allentown, PA   November 6th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Marc PDX, you do realize that it was Fox News (network of the right) that reported last night that Palin didn't know which countries were in North America and didn't know that Africa was a continent and that South Africa was a country rather than a region.

Please let me say it again. Fox News. This is not a liberal news outlet dumping on Palin. These are the Republicans talking heads eating their own.

Please think before you speak.

suzanne, western NY   November 6th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Palin was thrust into the limelight clueless of what Washington insiders can do to outsiders. (I know my dad was in an appointed gov ernment position in the 70's). They can and do eat people alive.

In many respects I feel badly for her and yet I would like to think that even she might have had a clue how rough this would be.

She is best back in Alaska….The Republicans used her to rally the base and it backfired… They need to look in the mirror.

BTW: The market isn't crashing because of Obama being elected it is due to the numbers ie: retail sales and jobless claims……that started a long ime ago…and won't be fixed in a few days. So instead of blaming him educate yourselves on economic issues.

Even though her comments were in no way appropriate, is anyone else a little interested, just for fun, to see what she wanted to say? Just imagining it makes me laugh.

And what is this she said in Alaska today? It was something like McCain being the leader in the Senate!? Does she even know what she is talking about? Come on!

To So-called "Smooth Barry" more like Clueless Barry –

Hello????? Did you just happen to notice that the market has been tanking for the past few weeks nonstop????? Did you also happen to hear that Lehman Bros, Bear Stearns and AIG have all either folded or have been bailed out of bankruptcy????

Obama was still campaigning when the economic crisis reached it's peak and is still going through horrendous losses…..how on Earth can you blame the greediness of Wall St. fat cats (who are the REAL reason for this mess) on the President Elect???

You are obviously one of those ignorant, trailer park Mccain/Palin supporters who are still upset that you guys lost by a landslide……do yourself a favor and get over it. You sound ridiculous.

Palin's Theme Song   November 6th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Come listen to a story about a man named Jed …

A poor mountainer that barely kept his family fed …

And then one day he was shootin' at some food …

And up from the ground came a bubblin' crude…

Oil that is … Black gold … Texas Tea ….

Dave   November 6th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Republicans are still clinging to this moron, even though she sunk their ticket! Good! They haven't learned anything. Palin appeals only to a radicalized fringe of the GOP, and that fringe cannot accept the fact that what excites them doesn't appeal to the rest of the country as a whole. They're doing everything they can to avoid facing that fact. And that's fine with me, because until they do face it, they'll be out of power. And, judging from the way they've run the country the past eight years, and the results we got, the longer they're marginalized, the better.

So, yeah, Palin 2012! Also known as "Barak gets handed a free second term."

Stacey   November 6th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

@Smooth Barry; the loss of 928 points on the DOW has absolutely nothing to do with President Elect Obama. Where have you been the last two months – in a cave? If you want to blame a president, blame President Bush. As for Gov. Palin, I've had no time in the "political arena" and I knew more than she did. Heck, my 15 year old daughter would have done better in that Katie Couric interview than Gov. Palin! I'm very relieved she's not our V.P.

just please go away.

Laverne   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

There is no need to gripe now. This is what happen when you don't properly vet your VP pick. Also, to be honest this is what McCain deserve. His motives for picking Sarah Palin were not RIGHT and it backfired on him. He used her and she used him, they really do deserve each other.

KLEE   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I'm just glad to say "thank God & Greyhound she's gone!" – next topic please.

Ben in San Diego   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I'm going to miss her…

She was a big part of destoying McCain's campaign and for that I will be forever grateful…

He took Caribou Barbie and tried to turn her into Terminator Barbie… he picked the wrong Barbie…

Shari, NY   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

MarK PDX: I am a Democrat and as a woman I will be respectful to Palin BUT can't you see that even the GOP is giving her a hard time, or have you misplaced your "peepers"? I understand that she did not know that Africa was a continent and if that is true she is definitely bad news. Look at Smooth Barry! He is beating up on Obama because the Dow just dropped. Smooth Barry just woke up on the rough side and thought that Obama was the president since last year.

s   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

She's not much different than Bush, is she?

Obama is for UNITING of the PEOPLE   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

So much for Palin knowing anything about Political in the United States, or Alaska.

Todd ……..ops………Sarah really thought s/he was the REAL President candidate…….on TOP of the Republican ticket. Is this the FIRST election for the President that Sarah really knew anything about it’s procedures? Judging by her not knowing how things are done, explain why they both heavily participate in the group that is determine to DIVIDE Alaska from United States.

So now it is TOLD that Sarah (Todd) went on a family SHOPPING SPREE and SPEND more then what had been told to the voters…..

I hope she runs in 2012, we want to KEEP the Demarcated majority in the White House, and she is the one that will ensure us that WISH.

linda   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

the dow was already down two days ago people they kept the numbers up for the election get it….

Liberian Girl   November 6th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

She didn't know that African was a continent … she thought it was a country.

She thought South African was a region in the country of Africa …. Woah!

Now can you Palin fanatics admit she was not remotely qualified for the job?

Glenn in California   November 6th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

I heard the prank call. It was hilarious.

Thank God the Wasilla Hillbillies have gone back to the hills. I don't think she'll be heard from anytime soon other than the funny election post-mortem stuff like this.

Y'all don't come back 'round here, y'hear?

Jim   November 6th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Apart from her weak qualifications, I believe Gov. Palin would have been an ineffective Vice President because she does not understand protocol, pushes her own ambitions and is not a "team player." I wonder how her teammates regarded her on her high school basketball team.

Joe the Troll   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Marc PDX – looks to me like it's the McCain camp doing the bashing. Read much?

JC   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

McCain's campaign was absolutely dreadful. No platform, no message, and changes in strategy every week. The fact that aides and staffers of that campaign are trying to point the finger at Palin is absolutely ridiculous. She is not the reason they failed and trying to use her as a scapegoat for their failure after an election is about as low a tactic I have ever seen. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen it before. I wouldn't vote for Palin for president, but after what she went through with the vicious left media and now the backstabbing right, she certainly has my respect.

sandee in Portland   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

You know I love reading about this poor excuse for a woman that had hopes for a position well beyond what she is capable of. If she had truly been intelligent, she would have refused McCain based on the fact that she knew she did not know enough about the world outside of Alaska, about our great nation or even enough about the other countries in our world. I mean come on, people, everyone should at least know the continents…we're taught that in grade school.

Her mentality during this campaign was one of a small town girl. As she was put in positions of power, she should have been educating herself.

SUE   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

No, the change he promised was to kick Bush back to texas where he belongs. Take the responsibility for the stock market where it belongs with the repuglican party who are even now vowing they will not participate in bipartisan negotiation with our new president. So much for country first, it should have said repuglicans first as always. Get over it, you are now in the minority, hope you enjoy your exile. As far as Palin,
Americans have a long memory, when she comes back she will be no smarter than she is now. She thought Africa was a country, and did not know Africa was a continent. Even my 8 year old grandson knows better. IQ Palin = 0

Jason   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

"Yes, but did you know that since Obama was elected, the Dow has had a two-day total loss of 928 points. The market has no faith in Obama to manage the economy. IS THIS THE CHANGE HE PROMISED?"

A. He's not President as yet.

B. The DOW has been going through a roller coaster ride for the past month.

C. If you think that any President, Bush or Obama or the spirit of Ronald Reagan come back from the dead can suddenly wave their wand and send the DOW soaring, I suggest you put down the mushrooms.

Gene   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

The squabbling is just beginning.. just wait.. this will turn into a republican civil war.

poo on a stick   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

There will be more dirt that comes out of that campaign you keep you ears open.

Charlie B   November 6th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Smooth Berry, you just made Palin look smart. The Dow is down because of Obama? Do you not hear the Business news this morning. Job loss greater than expected and retail sales of Oct. was way down. This mess did not begain in the last two days but has been eight years in the making. Obama is not incharge yet, we still have almost 3 months of Bush!

Once he is incharge it will take most of his first year to undo what Bushy Boy did.

Craig   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

If this call from "the president of France" was on the schedule for 3 days why did no one go through normal channels to make sure it was real.

Samuel   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Unimaginable or let's say Unbelievable.

Question: How on earth did Sen. John McCain chose Gov. Sarah Palin to be the candidate for the GOP Vice-President? What was he thinking or what was he not thinking?

Someone help me with this one. Thanks.

A Boston   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Sarah you shouldn't have accepted the offer knowing you're weren't prepared. Plz don't even consider a 2012 run. You should go back to school.. You're clueless!!!

Al Nelson   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

What I think is funny is the McCain supporters are the ones trashing Palin. However some of the postings suggest it is the Obama supporters.

Tony   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

She is unqualified and poorly schooled in History. If her son wasn't in Iraq, she would be the typical Fright wing candidate.

LaRine   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

I think that Sarah Palin was a very good choice for John McCain as V P , as much so as Barack Obamam is for the Presidency.
The decision was a good one as the people rebounded and became involved immediately but the problem continued to be that people saw McCain as a continued part of the establishment married to the Washington good ole boy group and they couldn't get past that.
Sarah Palin now has the opportunity of when one door closes another opens and she should take it for the continued experience.

Mark Ferbet   November 6th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

And that is why John McCain lost this election… at least one reason that is….

She is a radical. Yes, Radical… I hope she stays in Alaska.

And to Smooth Barry… the Market for the past two days has nothing to do with an Obama election, it has to do with the fact that unemployment numbers are going to be bad when released tomorrow, and that our country has "officially" gone into a recession.

Andrea-St Louis   November 6th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

This broad is down right stupid.

observer   November 6th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Oh come on people the economy turned to sh—t awhile ago. Please, in my opinion to use an analogy it's like Bush handed Obama a baby to take care of and the baby has a diaper full of sh–t.Now Obama has to clean it up starting in Jan.

True Blue Ohio   November 6th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Smooth,

The market??? The market didn't vote for Obama. The people did. And Obama is the President-Elect, not the current President. If you really think that one person is to be held responsible for the fluctuation of market, then blame the CURRENT President.

YourInsanity   November 6th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Well, now she has four years to read the Constituton! She was too busy shoppin' last two months, so I suppose she can take it easy and try to learn few things. There is no way for her to become a presdent, it is not a female issue, it is reputation. There is a lot of tape with her pearls, she only attracts conservative base. Conservative base is not enough to be elected. The problem with Republican party is that they became too old. They need younger people, but it will take time to raise new generation of Republicans. It won't happen before 2016. I also would like to see all negative adds about Obama removed from McCain's channel on youtube. It is time to unite. I thought republicans love their country no matter what, that must include case when their guy lost. It is still America and always will be. This is not a good time to fight each other, we have way too many enemies outside, I bet they would like to see us fight, but I hope they will be disappointed and American people will once again stand as ONE nation. Thank Gd we all have differences, thank Go we are allowed to have different political views, it keeps America moving.

yes we did   November 6th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Very Smooth Barry. By your reasoning, it is Obama's fault that we are having flood inducing torrential rainfall here in Seattle. Get real.

Rita   November 6th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

the DOW would have gone down if either president would have been elected. The excitement is over, people are going back to normal, the party is over, the economic reality is sinking in. A new president will always bring some unsurety to the markets. Smooth Barry you don't have a clue. Besides, what's wrong with being smooth? Its better than being a bumbling idiot.

Melanie   November 6th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

MARC PDX..said:November 6th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Ahh, sort of an encore performance for liberals. The election is over but it was so much fun for you to beat up Sarah Palin that you can hardly stop now, right? Go ahead! Take her out back and beat the carp out of her. You know you want to! (Nice, caring liberals… wink wink!)

Hahahaha!!! Beat the carp out of her?? I knew there was something fishy about her!!!! That is hilarious!

Mr Independent   November 6th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Smooth Barry, What have you done to the Market?

Hey clown…for heavens sake its only been two days. Why don't you give the new president a chance. I'm sure when you started your new job at fast food restaurant that you couldn't get those burgers out any faster?

You clowns simply amaze me every time you open your mouths…typical.

Samuel   November 6th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Unimaginability or let's say Unbelievabilty.

Irma in North Carolina   November 6th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Yes, I can see why they would of not let her speek, it would of been a hate speech. Although the speech Mccain was very gracious he did well on the speech. But I am sure America will rest much better now knowing that we dont have to worry about her possibly running the country.

laura   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Leave her alone, what's done is done. Election is over and she is in Alaska(thank gawd). I'm just glad I don't have to hear that voice anymore.

John Rico   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Maybe they should have vetted her before saying she was "more qualified than anyone else in the country".

idm   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

"Smooth Barry"- You realize, of course, being the brilliant financial guru that you are, that the market has been in 'free fall' now for about a month, and that Obama will not be 'managing the economy' until January? Besides, this is a comment section about Sarah Palin, not for your foolish interpretation of the stock market?

As for Sarah, she was thrust into a situation far beyond her abilities and has been hung out to dry by the McCain camp. I'm not a Palin supporter by any means, but what they're doing to her is unforgiveable.

JamesNC   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

The election is only two days old. Pailin did what she could. For someone to suggest that the market dropping has something to do with the election of Obama is wrong. The market has been dropping and will continue to drop as long as Bush is still in the White House (77) days.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I'm surprised Palin didn't give the "prank" call to "The First Dude" to answer because obviously neither are too bright.

Meh   November 6th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

The reason she thought she should give a concession speech too is b/c she was really running for the presidency. Let's be real.
SO glad she's going back to Alaska. I'll pack her bags for her!

Smooth Barry> Oh please. The market goes down every time a new president is elected since the traders don't know how the economy is going to go yet.

Angie   November 6th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I'm not surprised. That is the republican way. When they couldn't tear Obama down and he won the election. They then turn on each other. That is why they lost. But I guess they don't see or understand that yet. How sad.
And for smooth barry. can you tell us why the market has been dropping before the election and what about the wall street mess? You should find someone else to blame. Not President-elect Obama.
The problems didn't just start Nov 4th. Your president bush is still in ofc. it's probably because he came out of hiding for the last two day.

Truth Be Told   November 6th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Smooth B, before this two day loss, the market lost…what…nearly 2,000? You wanna blame Obama for that too? Get a clue…

Lara   November 6th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I can't beleive that someone is actually blaming our new President for the DOW being down.

Say what?   November 6th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Smooth Barry: Be patient, Rome was not built in a day and remember that Barack Obama will not be sworn in until January 20. Didn't your teacher tell you that?

Wise White Guy   November 6th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

smooth Barry – That has absolutely nothing to do with Obama. If it drops the day after he is actually President you will have something to talk about. The economy is in the crapper now and the earnings reports are looking horrible. Naming someone President elect does not fix anything especially when he will not be in office for 11 WEEKS! Get a grip and if you can't get over the election you should seek some mental help.

Marc PDX   November 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

@Smooth Barry: you are correct. The dimwits that thought they were going to get something for nothing by electing Obama are going to get nothing instead. Anyone who has anything (and that includes a lot more people than "the rich") are going to bail out of the stock market before capital gains taxes go up and before taxes on "the rich" and companies go up (thereby reducing their profits, thereby reducing the value of their stock). You have to be pretty ill informed to not see this coming. And we haven't even covered national security yet… Anyway, they'll get what they deserve and never understand why apparently. (Too bad the rest of us will get it too.)

observer   November 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Sarah should go home and raise her kids. Start by sending them back to school so they unlike Sarah can learn the English language.

Never again!   November 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

She wasnt ready! Simple she was not ready!, and actually she was a DRAG on the ticket. It wasnt the falling economy or Mr. Bush that made McCain lose the election, He lost because of his poor choise of V. p! and she was clearly mis Handled!

Steve   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

What a loon!

Bruce   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

PRICELESS

Wise White Guy   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

This is exactly the sort of thing that I have a problem with the Republican Party in general. The attitude that it is everyone for themselves and if necessary just eat your own. That is the same attitude you see on football teams that never succeed. Guys who are out for themselves and are there for money and stats. If things go wrong blame the other guy. It was apparent through the entire campaign that they had no cohesiveness, no plan, no new policies, no control of the situation, and no teamwork. No wonder they got stomped. I have nothing against Republicans except that most of them exemplify this greedy, selfish mentality and i really hope they can get back to what the party used to be like before Reagan. I know everyone thinks he was great but this is actually when most of our problems started. Debt rose dramatically, both parents had to go to work, children became latchkey kids, on and on and on. I hope Obama can get us started again in the right direction and people will recognize where we need to go.

Sadie   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Goodbye Ms. Palin. I'm sure that nobody will miss you up in Alaska.

Sarah the worst ever   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I must say she was the worst & weakest canidate I can remember in my 49 years. I thought the media was too soft on her. She earned this title all on her own. They pulled her in to be curte and Dumb and she was. Problem is her personality had zero redeeming quality either.
Thank you John McCain for making my decision easy!

Leah DiMarco, Texas   November 6th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Senator Obama has nothing to do with the Dow decline.
Come on people stop trying to BLAME Senator Obama with all of the bad things in the world.

p.s. Thank God Palin has gone back to Alaska!

Abby   November 6th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Blaming the President-elect for the market and not the president seems a little crazy. The loss today is totally attributed to the unemployment report due tomorrow which is expected to show 200,000 more unemployed this month. Hoping for the failure of our future president simply means sour grapes before country.

God bless President-elect Obama and may he be successful!!!

matt   November 6th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

your rite smooth barry. cause george bush isn't still in office? and the market has been so stable latley. its obvious its obamas fault already.

Hopeful for Tomorrow   November 6th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

@Smooth Barry — You're kidding? The down dropped? Again? Oh, wait, it's been doing that for over a month now. Not Obama's fault. Deal with it.

Marc PDX   November 6th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

She is a complete idiot! First: Traditional it's not the #2 that makes a speech when conceding defeat, it's the #1! The only thing she would of shoot her mouth off would be that President-Elect Obama pals around with terrorist! Also I heard that McCain didn't even want to bring up Ayers, but she didn't listen to his adviser and did what she wanted to do! Even after McCain made his speech and left with his wife, she was take photos. This election might of been closer if McCain never pal around this hateful idiot!
