A source tells Candy Crowley that David Axelrod will be named Senior Adviser to the President-elect.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) – A source with the Obama Transition team tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that a plan to name David Axelrod a Senior Adviser to the incoming President is "in the works."

Axelrod was the Obama presidential campaign's chief strategist, and a top adviser to Obama during his run for the Senate in 2004.

If you want to get a clear read on how the Obama appointments will handle business, just know that Axelrod and Emanuel advised Obama on the 30-minute infomercial aired the Wednesday before the general election, and it was brilliantly conceived. They made no mention of McCain, Caribou Barbie or fearless, "Jet-Pilot" in the entire broadcast. And why should they, the broadcast was about Obama and what he brings to the country! Give these people a chance Amercia, and you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the outcome!!!

And Persoanl to Sarah palin – Go ahead and run in 2012; if you're still standing after the GOP is through with you, Obama has something for you!

Lisa, MD   November 6th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

WOW COMPLAINING ALREADY OBAMA HAS BEEN SWORN IN OFFICE YET. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SOME OF YOU ON HERE DARN IT'S ONLY BEEN 2 DAYS AND GRIPING. COMPLAIN BEFORE THE ELECTION AND STILL COMPLAINING. FOR ALL THE ONES WHO STILL DOESN'T GET IT THEN WHY DID YOU VOTE FOR HIM. WHATS THE REASON. FIRST OF HAS ANYONE REALIZE WHAT HE HAS TO CLEAN UP EIGHT YEARS OF FRACKIN LACKIN BULL. DO YOU KNOW THAT HE IS UNDER A MICROSCOPE? DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH PRESSURE HE MAYBE UNDER NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT HE HAS BEEN ELECTED TO BE THE PRESIDENT AND HE IS THE FIRST MINORITY AND MANY PEOPLE DON'T CAN'T ACCEPT THAT. HE JUST LOST A VERY CLOSE AND DEAR FAMILY MEMBER ON THE EVE OF THE ELECTION. HOW THIS IS GOING TO BE AN IMPACT ON HIS TWO DAUGHTERS AND THERE LIVES WILL NOT BE THE SAME ANYMORE FOR NOW ON THERE LIFE IS THE PUBLICS LIFE. HOW HE HAS TO PICK THE ADMINISTRATION AND HE ONLY HAS 77 DAYS TO DO IT. SO YOU TELL ME WHAT IS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO ME IT SOUNDS PERSONAL. SENATOR OBAMA IS GOING TO BE CRITICIZE EITHER WAY AND THAT IS SAD. A CHANGE IS WHAT THIS WHOLE WORLD NEEDS AND IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN IN 7 DAYS AS GOD ALMIGHTY SPOKEN LIFE IN THOSE AMOUNT OF DAYS. GIVE HIM A CHANCE DON'T BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE I WONDER IF MCCAIN WAS ELECTED WOULD HE GET THIS!!! HEY WE ALL ARE HURTING US, ABROAD EVERYONE WE NEED TO UNITE AS ONE.

GREAT THINGS ARE NOT DONE BY IMPULSE , BUT BY A SERIES OF SMALL THINGS BROUGHT TOGETHER.

YES WE WILL !!!!

Independent white female patriotic voter   November 6th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Since I began following the Obama campaign from its beginning, I have been most impressed with David Axelrod and Robert Gibbs. i am really glad to see them on the Obama team in the white house. He has been making great choices with his selection. I am so glad I voted Obama and of course more glad he won the race.

Betty   November 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Great this is the guy that helped him get elected, hiding Obama's past. He will continue to do the same at the White House. So far 0-2 for Obama's picks

Gloating Gutless Girly Liberals: Axelrod is a con just like Obama's Chicago cronies Axelrod is a con just like Obama's Chicago cronies

Why would you not RE-HIRE your winning team? DUH??? You don't trade your #1 quaterback that helped you win the Superbowl. Its that simple.

Stop hating. Obama, out-played, out-smarted, out-witted his opponent. You're just mad that the Republicans weren't creative enough to come up with their own winning strategy.

Obama plays to win. Get on board or get lost sucking your thumb.

60 year old, white female for Obama   November 6th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

Memo to Repub.:
1. you not only LOST the election, it was a landslide

2. bipartisan means TWO parties play the compromise game; so far Republicans are indicating they are not willing to meet in a bipartisan fashion and are pulling the same pathetic smear, and scare tactics that lost them the election

3. Obama is showing that he is NOT going to be a pushover and will pick the people he thinks will be the best for the job; it is just there are two few BESTS in the Republican party!!

Obama's choses are thus far are AWESOME and the depth of his economic and foreign affairs advisors put the Bush cronies intelligence to shame.

NoPrty   November 6th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

I'm very, very thrilled to hear that! Aside from Michelle, I don't think anyone knows the Prez-elect better. Congratulations Team O, for running a smart, clean, campaign. I must admit that even I was doubtful that you could win without getting in the mud. You convinced me.

Bob   November 6th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

What so funny about Leo's comment is that Obama has not even made it to Jan 20th, and already he's commenting on how or what happens with Obama in office. Leo fails to realize that it's going to take republicans and democrats alike to get out of this mess from the past 8 years. The true american Joe Lieberman and McCain realizes this as well. If this bi-partianship doesn't get broken up, I don't care who's president , we will all remain in the same condition that we're in now. By the way Leo, those that voted, voted for their particular candidate for a particular reason, thats what true americans do, no matter what color they are.

America Loses> Um. I'm sorry but I did not see Fred Flintstone or Homer Simpson show up at the polls to vote this time around. It doesn't matter if someone tries to REGISTER under a fictious name, that person has to actually show up at the polls as that person! ACORN, by law, has to turn in ALL registrations to the board of elections, even if they are shady, b/c they are considered legal documents. They weren't trying to pull one over on anyone. When you are paying a poor person $7/registration, you're going to get some shady registrations. Why can't some people seem to get that through their heads?

A New Hope & New Days   November 6th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Advise Obama as you did during his campaign and we will have a great 4 years! The campaign was run with intelligence, thought out planning and expertise! Good Job!

Independent and loving it - Minnesota   November 6th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

We need to give President Obama a chance. He has been asked to come to the cockpit of an airplane headed straight into the ground without one engine, another one on fire and almost out of fuel. He won't be able to get all of this done in a year or even in one term. It took 8 years for Bush to completely destroy this country and it's going to take at least at that long to fix the mess. Give him a chance. I believe he really wants to help everyone. If he is successful, than we all win. Do you see that?

T   November 6th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

What is wrong with everyone and the racial comments??? You don't vote for someone or support someone because of his race. Not saying that he will or will not do a good job...Time will tell. But if you want to not make this about race then stop!!! Don't sit back and say that all the black supporters did not support him. Well every AMERICAN has a right to choose what AMERICAN they support. Thats why we all are AMERICANS. Get over it!!! Yes he is a half black president. But more importantly he is now our AMERICAN leader. Focus on that. If you want america to not be racial it starts with every one of us and each of us setting examples for our children, family and friends. Stand up and unite as AMERICANS. Refuse to let the media talk about blacks or whites or browns. Lets just be proud to all be AMERICANS, or it will never stop!!!

America loses   November 6th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

For all the people that disagree with Obama, and call us racist if we disagree even though blacks were the racist when they voted 99% for one candidate because he is half white, it is no being Haters, it is being lovers of traditional American capitalism and the great way of life it has provided millions of us over many generations and worrying that we will lose our freedom to enjoy capitalism, as we will HATE it if it is taken away by an ideologically left Marxist and his team of Marxists.

Goodie-Ga.   November 6th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

FreeNLovIt   November 6th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

I dont care who he picks as long as they pull America out of this MESS. In the next few days, he needs to SWIFTLY, AGGRESSIVELY and CAUTIOUSLY move to FIGHT THIS FINANCIAL GODZILLA, tearing our economy apart.

He needs to be decisive and hit the ground running.... I want Obama to focus on getting the job done to save America and everything will fall in place, not to listen to us WHINE.

America loses   November 6th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Axelrod's third order of business, tell the world yes we can destroy the American way from within, by moving away from free enterprise capitalism and towards their idol's ideology, Mr. Putin of Russia. To Art Hall: You have to understand that if the Black Civil Rights organizations had gotten involved, it might have cost Barack the election by emphasising his blackness over his QUALIFICATIONS. I much prefer a QUALIFIED president who is black, than a BLACK who is president.

I hope you understand what I am saying. The term black, hispanic, gay, asian should always be in lower case. It is the ISSUES and the HEART and SOUL that matters.

When Goerge W. Bush was re-elected in 2004, he said "I won political capital and I intend to use it." He was very upfropnt about considering himself to be President only of those who votd for him.

Fast forward to 2008, when Obama promises to be the President of those who voted for him AS WELL AS THOSE THAT DID NOT. To those that did not, he said "I hear your voices and will reach out to you."

Now there's the change we need!

Art Hall   November 6th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

That dog won't hunt.

"True Americans"? Please. They showed up to vote and voted their conscience. Both sides. Stop with the hate-filled garbage. We don't all have to agree, we're still Americans – isn't that why so many of our soldiers fought and died, so that we could have the right to disagree?

Nothing looks less patriotic to me than this "True Americans" crap.

Attention all Republicans posting on CNN – I haven't stopped laughing!
You are so biased and full of hate it might do you good to go to the doctor, have your blood pressure checked and and get an EKG. If not, you won't be around in four years to vote. You will drop dead from a stroke or heart attack. Seriously, you need help.

All these Obama haters get to feel the pain the rest of had to suffer under George Bush. However, I hope they come around and support President Obama but if not they can continue to be miserable as long as they want to. Freedom of speech is great as long as it doesn't threaten or harm someone and Obama haters have every right to speak their ignorance.

Faith, hope and charity   November 6th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Hillary supporters who went into mourning got therapy and now seem to be on the mend. What can we now do for these whiners who are intent on inflicting misery on themselves for the next four years? Obama has not even been inaugurated and the line for the shrink's office seems to be out the door and around the corner. Help!

GA voter   November 6th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

David Axelrod is the man. Some people say that he is the Karl Rowe of the democratic party, but the truth is that they both cannot be further apart. This is not only true in terms of their political phisophy but also in style. He is calm, collective, discipline, and no-drama personality.

He will be a great Senior Advisor if named...

Now it the time to lower the Maximum Interest Rate for Mortgages, Bank Loans, and Credit Cards! By lowering the maximum rate on these interest rate that almost every Americans use in their lives, you can give instant relief to all American who are suffering from mounting debt, by cutting their monthly costs! Hopefully you will lower Mortgages to a maximum of ten percent, Bank Loans to a maximum of twelve percent, and Credit Cards to a maximum of fifteen percent!

Duh - doesn't Candy have the basic journalistic sense that David Axelrod IS an advisor to Obama and when Obama became President elect, it is obvious that Axelrod becomes a Senior advisor to him. Not in the works.

Don't file reports for the sake of filing a report.

Why does this even have to be a story - and why the secrective way of m "A source with the Obama Transition team tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley"

Being a top-notch campaign strategist doesn't mean having the skills set necessary for other work. I wish the new president well, but if his staff choices are going to be Washington insiders/former Clinton types, where's the "change" we hoped for going to come from? I'm looking for something different, bold, and encouraging–not "politics as usual."

Do you suppose that Reid is making an offer he can't refuse? Do you suppose he has been told he will no longer chair those committees or that they will grease his palms if he chooses to return with his tail between his legs? I am sure the options are endless, but that there probably won't be any bartering from Lieberman's perspective.

Gloating Gutless Girly Liberals   November 6th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Axelrod is a con just like Obama's Chicago cronies who he owes favors to now. Unite the country? Way to go Obama – appointing super partisans. It's ironic how the lib-tards think we are "all one and united" now just because the Obama victory speech in Chicago was sooooooo diverse and multi cultural. Well, there is nothing farther from the truth. A good chunk of latinos supported the GOP, and the dems do NOT have the black vote completely locked up...just the dumb blacks (smart ones voted for McCain). If Obama was really the "post-partisan" guy he is cracked up to be, then he would be reaching out to Republicans right now. Liberals, get ready for Obami blunders and the failed economic policies of the next four years.

Matt   November 6th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Leo:

Give it up Leo. What is Obama to do? Appoint High School students to his administration. He has no choice but to rely on some folks with experience and expertise in various areas of government. If McCain had won the election he too would have selected experienced people to make up his administration. Experienced insiders as you say.

But here is the difference. Those Obama appoints better be for change or they will be fired by Obama. You can count on it. Whereas McCain's appointees would be freer to do as they please because McCain would not be able to contro lthem. This is obvious by McCain's inability to control his own campaign, and his VP running mate. Obama will have loyaty for his goal of change. McCain would not have had such loyalty.

And forget 2012. McCain is too old and Palin is too ingnorant. You better find a new savior for the Republican party who might be competitve in 2016, might.

Leo – not everyone who voted for Obama are "liberals". I know democrats, independents AND republicans who voted for Obama and most of them I would describe as moderate or centrists – not left-wing or right-wing.

BTW – read the article that states the republican turnout at the polls was lower this election than in 2004. Perhaps you should be a little more angry at those republicans who did NOT show up to vote.

LIP   November 6th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Let's talk about Lieberman for a second. Wasn't there a politician a few years back that was a registered Republican from one of the NE states and didn't he jump from Repub to Demo so they could have a majority or prevent the repubs from having a majority? Why is that okay, but what Lieberrman did not okay?

This is fantastic news. Obama's campaign manager also did an exceptional job... and Axelrod? Simply amazing! His work as Chief Strategist is beyond compare. All of a sudden, even the best adjectives just suddenly seem so wimpy ... and totally inadequate to express the extraordinary job of Obama and his staff during the campaign. It's great to hear that we'll continue to hear about Axelrod. By the luckiest chance, I saw him at a 20 foot distance during the Obama rally on MU campus in Columbia, MO. He looked totally a little puzzled at having HIS his name yelled out, and looked around quizzically, I thought. When he noted my waving, and his eye caught mine, I gave him a most enthusiastic "thumbs up," and he gave a little nod and modestly mouthed "Thank you". These guys are not showy and arrogant! How refreshing to see brilliance in people who are so steady, straightforward and singleminded in their focus. Their dazzle is all in the methodical process and incredible results. Seeing Axelrod at the rally, it was a great feeling to be able to express thanks to someone who has done a quantum-remarkable job, along with Plouffe (amazing!), their whole staff, all the volunteers - and, of course, Barack and his family.
