Lieberman's decision to support McCain was a courageous act. It has to be difficult for him to stand up against the people he had caucused with for many years. He did so based on his convictions on what be believed was the best course for this country. To lash out at him for following his convictions, calling him a traitor, or any other name calling found in these posts is petty. I think Shakespeare said it best: “Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.”

Lieberman told the people of CT – myself including – that he would caucus with the democrats, and was still a democrat, even though he was running as an independent. It was a change in name only, he said. His behavior in this campaign was hardly that of a Democrat. He betrayed the people of Connecticut and the party he claims to support on an overwhelming majority of the issues. When it was clear McCain would lose, he suddenly backed down his support for McCain and tried to act bipartisan. And now he is complaining about a punishment that is far less than he deserves. He is a coward and is not worthy of serving my state or this country.

Well anyone with any sense (regardless of political party) should be able to see that if he stabs one in the back, he'll do the same with the other...so if he goes to the Republican side, it'll only be a matter of time before he runs them into the ground..

He is only loyal to HIMSELF....I say good riddance...the Republicans need as many seats as they can get..who cares if it is for someone that has no morals...

And I don't care that he didn't like Barack, there is a way to do everything and he did them the wrong way....

Some people are portraying this as if Joe Liberman is being robbed of his rights, or this move is somehow revenge based. I'm not sure this is the case. Lieberman was a Democrat, but was most recently elected as an Independent. Then he supported Republicans. Actions have consequences. Spencer commented at 3:02 pm ET "I guess a man can't have his own political choices anymore." Sure they can. They always have choices, that's what is so great about a free society. You just can't claim to be my best friend, then sleep with my wife, and then say we're still best friends. The choice was be a friend, or sleep with my wife. You don't get it both ways. Sorry Joe, your actions, your choices, decided your fate. Not "vengeful" Democrats.

I am not surprised that the dems in congress and on these boards are so hateful and divisive. If you believed in Obama like you all said you did, then follow his lead. It's pretty sad that a free thinker like Lieberman is attacked like he is. He upsets partisans on both sides of the aisle at times, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. He should find more souls like himself and start a new party, because, frankly, he doesn't fit well in either major party. Washington needs more moderation, not partisanship.

Leiberman is Israel first and US second and that bothers me. His pro-Iraq war stance is all for the sake of Israel. What about the U.S. troops? That is why he backed McCain so fervently. Other than that, I think he IS a democrat. But I do question his loyalties to the U.S.

What is so hard to understand for you people? This guy is a source of discord and disunity. You can't look at this in a vacuum and say "oh, the Dems are doing something that's making an Independent cry, so they're being hypocrites." You also have to look at his Lieberman's past behavior. The FACT is, he has been a constant problem over the past couple of years and HE LEFT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. They graciously allowed him to continue to caucas with them in the Senate but then he again turned his back on them in the election. He's not reliable and goes where his own self-interests take him. Removing him from the caucas and his chairmanship will HELP the senate act in a bipartisan manner, not hinder it.
