Obama starts day with parent-teacher conference

Barack and Michelle Obama leave their daughters' school Friday after a parent-teacher conference.
Barack and Michelle Obama leave their daughters' school Friday after a parent-teacher conference.

(CNN) – He meets with his team of economic advisers and then holds his first news conference as President-elect, but for Barack Obama, the day started with a more personal duty, that of father.

The Obama Transition Office announced this morning that the President-elect would start his day, along with his wife Michelle, by attending a parent teacher conference at his daughters' school in Chicago. Sure enough, the soon-to-be first couple were seen exiting his daughters' school with papers in tow.

Daughters Malia and Sasha are students at the University of Chicago's Lab School.

He just paid off his student loans two years ago, he has two young daughters with teacher conferences this week, he has a intelligent, beautiful hard working wife, he is getting a puppy and he is incredibly busy. Considering I'm a white guy from Maine and he's a black guy from Illinois we sure have an awful lot on common. I feel that Obama has more in common with every day guys like me than what we've seen in the White House for a long time.

Teacher: Mr. and Mrs. Obama, your daughters are clearly gifted, but they have a tendency to correct the teachers as to how to teach better, and they often exhort the other students into believing that everyone can be doing better. I just don't know where they learn this behavior

(awkward looks between Barack and Michelle)

Isn't it policy that the President's/President-Elect's schedule for the day is posted for the media? It's just something of interest that CNN noticed. It's not some great media adoration (ahem–Andy) that's going to happen everyday.

Always has his priorities straight. I honestly hope that people give this guy his due chance to turn things around. Things will likely have to get worse before they get better. We face some tough decisions and they may not seem like the right choices at first. I believe that history will tell his story as the greatest ever.

what y'all fall to admit is that untold scores of black men and black women do this every single day. Taking care of their kids. They are one of many.

It makes sense that the Obamas would talk with the girls' teachers before the move to DC. Changing schools in the middle of the school year is never easy, so they might have suggestions that would help the kids through their transitions. It really is nice to see committed, caring parents working to do their best for their kids.

This beautiful family in the White House still brings tears to my eyes.
We, as a country, need to rally behind this wonderful man and help him all we can. United we stand – divided we fall. I choose to stand.
CNN can lead the pack – and Fox News can pound sand.
Thank you CNN for the most fair coverage in television history!

It's called leading by example...take heed people. You'd be surprised at the number of "parents" in this country, of all races, who take no interest in their children's education. Education is one of his main projects, so it is nice to see that he intends to continue to be an active participant in his daughters' educations. A lot of peple may have blown the conference because they were to busy being the new President Elect.

TO ALL OF THE HATERS: If McSAME won, most likely his "PA'IN" – Ms. Sarah – would be attending partent/teacher conferences – that is if her children go to school – and I "betcha" you would not be complaining about that!!!!!

PRESIDENTS are normal people – or at least they should be – and hearing NORMAL things every once in a while gives a lot of people HOPE!!!! I wonder how many parents NOW would take the time to "call" the school and check on their own kids "just because" they read this article. FROM THE BOTTOM UP BABY is the "only" thing that would make this country BETTER!!!!!

Thank you President Obama and your "lovely" FIRST FAMILY!!!!

to those who think updates like this are unimportant: i couldn't disagree more.

how many fathers actually go to the parent-teacher conferences? usually it's just the moms, if at all. ask a teacher you know. obama is going to set a wonderful example for everyone – even people who think they are too busy or have more important things to do. no one is busier than the president, and he makes time for family even in these serious times.

Sore losers, if you do not want to read stuff like that, don't do it. And most yet, why waste your precious time posting a comment to downplay the thing? Your bitterness is transparent, not your enlightening view of what is relevant. Some people are delighted with him, if this bothers you so much, go hide somewhere. We will call you when it's safe to come back. Grow up.
