Obama starts day with parent-teacher conference

Barack and Michelle Obama leave their daughters' school Friday after a parent-teacher conference.
Barack and Michelle Obama leave their daughters' school Friday after a parent-teacher conference.

(CNN) – He meets with his team of economic advisers and then holds his first news conference as President-elect, but for Barack Obama, the day started with a more personal duty, that of father.

The Obama Transition Office announced this morning that the President-elect would start his day, along with his wife Michelle, by attending a parent teacher conference at his daughters' school in Chicago. Sure enough, the soon-to-be first couple were seen exiting his daughters' school with papers in tow.

Daughters Malia and Sasha are students at the University of Chicago's Lab School.

I understand that those of you who supported McCain are angry that he did not win. However, there is no need to be disrespectful. I would say that your display of disrespect is the exact same reason why the ticket of your choice did not win. And I am a republican.

Those teachers better beware. If his kids don't get glowing reports, the Obamabots will rip them to shreds.

The "HUXTABLES" make it to the WHITE HOUSE!!!! It burns a lot of you to the GILLS to see a "successful family of color" make it beyond anyone's dream – GET OVER IT – this is the NEW WORLD!!!!

If you take a GOOD LOOK at the "DEMOCRATIC PARTY" that is all you see – "a collection of MANY COLORS – Diversity – and MANY nationalities". It's the HATERS who feel they cannot accept a "change" in America that is long overdue!! That is the reason why you would post HATER REMARKS to this story!!!

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST – GET ALONG!!!!

Although I am happy that he will represent the U.S.; it is irrelevant that he goes to parent teacher conferences. So do most Americans...please move on.

I am a teacher but also a single parent of a child who is now in law school. It was a long, lonely journey. I applaud a president-elect who can take time to see about the education of his children. There is a message for the rest of you men–step up.

What an awesome example of family! I believe the first lesson in leading any people is truly by being an example and he is well on his way in being one of the greatest leaders in America. I am very proud of the Obamas on a outstanding acomplishment! May the angels of the Lord be encamped round about them to keep them in all of their ways. May the peace of God be upon them as they enter into a term of change for the betterment of the nation. I support them in their endeavors as they move this nation to a new beginning. May God continue to bless you richly in the abundance of grace, revelation knowledge to lead us as a people, and love which is made available through Christ!
    You are God's Best!

Why is Obama a role model for going to a parent/teacher conference? It is every parent's duty to take an active part in their children's education.

This may not be news worthy to some folks, but this shows that Michelle and Pres. Elect Obama are walking the talk by living up to his call for Parent's to be very involved in their children's education in all apsects.

Many of us parent's are already very involved so this message is not for you, BUT please keep in mind that there are MANY parent's who are NOT as involved as they should be. Pres. Elect Obama and his wife will be role models to many in that regard.

Besides, it's nice to hear a POSITIVE story in the MSM every once in awhile instead of all the DOOM and GLOOM day in and day out!

If a man can not rule his own house, then he can not rule anything else. This is a simple display of a MAN handling his business at home. He is raising his children so they grow up to be good citizens and not a civilian that hit's you over the head and steals your car. Some of you need to grow up.
