Bushes welcome Obamas to White House

President Bush and Laura Bush welcome Barack and Michelle Obama to the White House on Monday.

(CNN) – President Bush and first lady Laura Bush welcomed President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, to the White House on Monday afternoon.

Bush and Obama held a private meeting in the Oval Office, while the first lady gave the incoming first lady a tour of the residence.

The president and president-elect walked together along the colonnade by the Rose Garden before entering the Oval Office together. They briefly waved to reporters along the way.

Obama and Bush were not expected to speak on camera following their meeting.

An aide to Obama said they were "going to let the pictures speak for themselves."

The two met in the Oval Office for just over an hour. When President George H.W. Bush hosted President-elect Bill Clinton after the 1992 election, the two talked for nearly two hours.

Monday's meeting was a historic formality, but it was also a time for serious talks. It marked the first time that Obama has visited the Oval Office.

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi, from every mountainside, let freedom ring!

And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing.

From living in a very diverse section of the country; this picture seems very normal to me. Hopefully one day it will be to all Americans.

To all you idiots hating on Michelle's dress, you people obviously don't have any taste OR you jealous because she has a nice body to really fit her clothes. She can't help it because you pancake bootie helfas don't have the shape to fit your clothes and wear them like she does. I know it's hard to see a black woman with a curvy body in the white house. You people are use to your kind and the way THEY dress, now it's time to get used to the way WE dress.

That just goes to show you what a thoughtful and considerate President Bush and First Lady Laura are. I just hope Obama is as considerate when he goes out. If it had been me after all that stuff Obams said about the hand sanitizer I would have let them fend for

Honestly I voted for Barack, but you people have to stop the President and President-Elect Bashing its pathetic. You should all thank God you are in a country that changes leaders with smiles and photos and not guns and missles.

Also this stupid war goes in the Bush tally of dumbest moves ever, but the economy is every federally elected officials fault. They should be voted out and a new more effective congress voted in, especially any memember of the house and senate banking committees, anyone who wrote the bail out bill, sold it to congress and then didn't vote on it should be arrested.

Stop raggin' on Michelle, she's much younger than Laura, and she's dressing her age.

"This is a generational change. That's what the pics depict."

Are you blind? Obama is only 13 years young than Bush is. Generational? I don't think so.

Can't stand any of them, but that's a nice picture.

Michelle Obamas dress is too flashy? Red is too flashy? Evidently you don't remember Nancy Reagan!

What should she be wearing a nun's habit? She looks great...just the way a first lady should

Who cares about all this flash and trash (Obama and Bush)? All I care about right now is surviving the mess called our economy. And why should I bother working harder and earning more than $150K if it means more taxes with Obama? I'm ready to move to another country.

The dress may be a different color than the photo shows, stop talking about our next first lady. She looks fabulous.

Nice photo, wonderful time in history. You will not rain on my parade.

  22. What A Wonderful World

I love Michelle and Barack. They will make a wonderful representation of America. Our country will be better for the historic vote we made last Tuesday. Let's give them a chance.

It can't be easy for any new first family. Let's give the Obamas a chance. They deserve that. We allowed Bush to move into the White House in 2000 and he had all the chances in the world, under suspicious circumstances. The Obamas were voted in fair and square, give them a chance.

So, didn't Obama's grandmother supposedly die? Why has he yet to go to Hawaii? She allegedly meant a lot to him. Did they bury her without him? Did he drop her like a hot potato because he didn't need her any more like he's done with so many others before him? Or, did she not really die? Enquiring minds want to know...

Why do so many people make comments with no insight and just bash Bush? Granted, I voted for the guy and am very upset with many of his decisions, but he's still the president and should be given a certain amount of respect.

Same thing goes with those bashing Obama now too. He will be your president like it or not, respect him as such. If you don't like his views or policies, then speak out against those, don't just talk trash about Obama.
