WASHINGTON (CNN) - The transition team for President-elect Barack Obama has indicated it plans to hit the ground running with what could be big changes for the country.
But that massive agenda has Republicans - and some Democrats - wary of moving too fast.
Democrats are eyeing an ambitious agenda with plans to take on the economy, health care, energy and education - issues that are all intertwined, according to a leader of Obama's transition team.
"So these are all core, if you will, economic questions, and they need to be tackled together, and I think he'll have a program and a strategy to move aggressively across all those fronts," John Podesta said Sunday on CNN's "Late Edition."
A similar message is coming from Rep. James Clyburn, one of Obama's chief allies in Congress.
you know what. i voted for obama and i voted based on his qualifications and all along it was said that this was not about race and now that he has won office thats all you can find on TV is race race race. and something that really disturbed me was to hear black ministers said that we did it between the blacks and hispanics. this is very offensive to the white people who believed in obama because without their votes this could have never been possible. secondly i have heard about enough that senator obama is african american. how do you take a black man from kenya and a very much white woman from kansas and then say your child is african american. he is mixed at best. but you never hear that. im the anderson cooper of the blog world and im just KEEPIN YALL HONEST
I hope he moves way left and very quickly.
By raising the price of gas, he will allow alternative fuel technologies to be developed. Then taxes on gas will fund these alternatives. Most experts agree that gas has to be $5/gallon to push other technologies.
By increasing the windfall tax on oil companies, this will also teach them that it is not profitable, and people will sell their stock, and the oil companies will all have to move out of america. Good riddance
We haven't had a popular president in a long time. I know people are excited about getting something done and our new president, but chill. He just got elected. Give him a break and in Januaray, when he can get something done, he will. Now all he can do is select his cabinet. So chill.
Unfortunately it has to be an ambitious agenda. Bush has left a serious mess for the Obama administration to try and clean up.
I am sorry for your situation. I think perhaps emotions run too high on these blogs.
I expect that Obama will get in the hole this administration has dug for us running.... up hill! Which will mean reversing all the mistakes that can be reversed as quickly as possible! It is what those of us who voted for him expect him to do! AND look forward to!
The two employees couldn't stay even if he quit....they do not have the qualifications to do his job. They would still lose their jobs and my husband would also be out of work. There is a distict difference between being apathetic and being stupid. You'll learn that when you are older.
Please all of you that are so certain you know exactly what Pres-Elect Obama is or is not going to do, you know exactly what is going to happen in this country, you know without a doubt that he's going to fail, please let me know where you all got your crystal balls from. I'd like to look into the future and get some lottery numbers.
Actually Obama IS the definition of African-American. Dad, African. Mom, American. Very few black Americans are African-Americans. Just like I'm not European-American or Asian-American...I'm American, and so are most Americans who are black. To be more specific, though even Obama is not African-American, He's American...born here. If he had immigrated here from Africa, then he would be African-American.
So, he's American. And yes, it is unfortunate that we need Hyphenated-Americans.
I meant to say empathetic not apathetic. I need to get off of these blogs.......they're dumbing me down!
I'm going to reach across party lines and say that you made a very well stated point 'hometowndemocrat'
President -elect Obama has started the wheels rolling fast on helping Americans on many fronts.
One front is Auto Industry; I hope the new team looks hard at how to spend our money. Should the new administration throw money at a lost cause or find industries that will grow, create jobs and pay taxes.
Do you really think the American Auto Industry will survive?? Its track record over the last 10 -20 years is not good. The steel industry tanked many years ago and new mini mills started up that were more competitive and created jobs and taxes
I do not want Detriot to fail but I question the wisdom of throwing money at them, won't a portion of the vaccum be filled by growing foreign car manufacturers in America???
Enjoy the honeymoon, it'll last about six months tops.
While people may disagree, the best thing that happened to bring us towards energy independence is high gas prices.
OPEC knows this, and will do everything in it's power to keep prices low. Now, we're back down. They know that $5/gal is the magic number when solar/electric/hydrogen technologies are equal in cost to gas. They need to keep us addicted. And complain as you may, now that gas is $1.95(in my town), Americans will probably go back to usual and want Hummers. the auto industry will comply, and in 5 years we'll have US gas guzzlers back, and Japan will have working all-electric vehicles that go 100miles per charge and charge in 2 hours. Or, hydrogen/electric hybrids that use solar to split water and can go 500 miles on charge/tank of H2.
We're losing out in the auto industry because there is no vision...no innovation, and no willingness to take risks...
Someone told me that it is a misperception to call the auto makers, Car Companies. They are PENSION companies. Most of their expense and profits go to pay pensions, not to create and innovate. A bailout will go to pensions, not to making cars or better products.
I say move on to the left fast and furious. I want a republican congress in 2 years.
John W, I feel you... Don't get annoyed by the African American label placed on Obama. He's biracial and everyone knows it. The reason he's considered black is because of this one fact: His skin is not white.
Maybe when you check out ! :)
Oh Boy...Here we go....the "common good"!
WOW......... there are some ignorant folks commenting on these blogs!
We need to be REALISTIC about the Obama presidency, he is inheriting a HUGE DISASTER, which interestingly the far-right-bloggers never address, they just live in denial, attacking the other guy and not taking responsibility for their party's DISASTER!
There is a lot President Obama can do to put our Nation back to work, including funding the rebuilding of our crumbling infrastructure! This alone will create millions of jobs! Especially in the depressed construction field.
When you blog you are free to say what you want, but you show your ignorance and hate when you put-down other people!
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., said it best:
" NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN SINCERE IGNORANCE AND CONSCIENTIOUS STUPIDITY."
Our ecomomy and the LOSS OF JOBS should be at the TOP of President-elect Obama's "to do" list.
Just looking at the dire future for our AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY is such a cause for concern..........it is the backbone of our manufacturing industry in America.
So many JOBS will be at stake..... unless this situatiion is addressed as a TOP PRIORITY.
