from the bottom up means that when the folks on the bottom can get jobs and tax breaks and are doing well, then everybody from the bottom up does well. the people on the bottom make money and in turn the people(wealthy) on the top get a return on their money.

Nonpartisan studies showed that supply was NOT the reason oil prices shot up, it was the speculators being allowed to jack the price however they wanted. Once it was shown that there was no true shortage, prices came back down.

Drilling is a red herring. What will keep prices down is a move to other energies.

Blacks voted overwhelmingly for Obama because he is a DEMOCRAT.

90% of blacks voted for John Kerry. Obama's percentage was only a bit higher. Part of that is the Bush team did an outreach to black voters but McCain's team abandoned that because they knew they had no chance.

You want to look at trends? Latinos voted for Obama 2 to1, much higher percentage than Kerry got. Is that racism? Al Gore beat Bush by 2% among 18-29s. Kerry beat Bush by 10%. Obama beat McCain by 35%!! Is this ageism??

95% of of African Americans may have voted for Obama, but I fail to see how that is racist.

Considering most of the wealth in this country is held by the richest 1% of americans, I am surprised that 95% of everyone didn't vote for Obama.

Actually I'm not surprised, because I have visited West Virginia, Tennesee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, and seen firsthand how racist most of the whit popultaion is there. There is no way Obama was going to win those states.

As for the community service, even if it is mandatory for students (I've heard conflicting reports) big deal. In order to graduate from my High School it was required that I complete a certain number of community service hours.

And regarding the Obama holiday? You're the only I've even heard mentioning it.

If John F. Kennedy was called "Jack" – a family nickname and term of endearment – by most everyone in the press and his private life, then why can't we call Barack Obama "Barry", his mother's nickname and term of endearment for him?

There's nothing wrong with Barack mind you, just wondering about why we can't (or won't) apply the great American tradition of nicknames to him as well.

Is it because people and the press are afraid of offending him or being call a "racist" over using a family nickname rather than his given Christian name all the time?
