Just look at that picture. What a beautiful and gracious First Lady Michelle Obama will make! What an impressive and intelligent President Barack Obama will be! I am just proud as punch to see what the American People have done! We have voted for what is best for this country... over politics as usual and over racial prejudice! We have chosen wisely!

We should be patting ourselves on the back, AMERICA! We did it! The Obamas will make us proud! I can't remember when I have felt so good about an election! And I was elated when Clinton was elected and reelected! Finally... We, the People, are waking up to what is best for this country!

Bush did what he thought was Right however it did not turn out the way he envisioned it. But we should remember something. The Dems. controlled both houses of Congress when Clinton took office, in 1993 the Republicans took control of both houses, So in 1999 when Clinton signed the Housing bill it was from a Republican controlled Congress, the Democratics did not regain control until 2006, and by then most of the rules were already in place. However whatever was done in the Past lets move forward in the future to get our Country back on the Right Path. Lets give Barak Obama a chance, if he does a good job he gets 4 more years, if not we give him the Boot and try again.

I agree with Stacy from Loudoun County. Bush is doing a gentleman's gesture. I think Laura, who is seemingly a genuinely nice lady, will do all she can as well.

**Even though politically I despise Dubya or 'W', I think he is a decent person deep down. Besides would you not be glad to get rid of the mess you made? LOL

DEAR LARRY.

from the bottom up means that when the folks on the bottom can get jobs and tax breaks and are doing well, then everybody from the bottom up does well. the people on the bottom make money and in turn the people(wealthy) on the top get a return on their money.

instead of giving tax breaks to the top(wealthy) and well you have the trickle down econimics theory. that doesn't help the little man.

There seems to be considerable concern and pressure for the incoming Obama administration to reach across the isle, which of course the Republicans would love even though they sure didn't do it themselves, yet the Republicans all seem to be focused on blaming each other for their loss, with factions within the party positioning for control and then resisting anything the Democrats may offer. Don't they realize that their aggressive self-focus is what caused their downfall and that the people really want a responsible focus on the problems?

to Peter in CA..
I don't think he ever said that college was going to be 'free' if you perform community service. He said 'affordable.' I don't think anyone would expect a 'free' college education. Just being affordable, would help out a ton of people.

Somebody help me out with this one.
Barack Obama is called the first African American President.
I thought African American referred to someone whose ancestors were brought here against their will by the Dutch and sold to the colonists. I thought that the title referred to those whose ancestors were slaves. I also thought that anyone who came here willingly and became a citizen of the United States was simply and merican citizen with no other titles attached. If this is so, then Barrack Obama is not African Ameican, just simply an American. Anyone care to spin this?

Pat - Overland Park, KS : It's not tasteless. It's the law. Air Force One is reserved for the use of the president of the U.S. Although Obama has been elected, to use Air Force One in that manner would be considered an improper use of government equipment/property. I think Obama can afford a plane ticket to D.C. so I wouldn't sweat it.

Mark---

You can't be serious. The threat of drilling?
Nonpartisan studies showed that supply was NOT the reason oil prices shot up, it was the speculators being allowed to jack the price however they wanted. Once it was shown that there was no true shortage, prices came back down.

Drilling is a red herring. What will keep prices down is a move to other energies.

To facts are facts - So you think Cheney pulls the strings for Bush. And do you have ANY clue who is pulling Obama's strings? Of course not; if you did you wouldn't have voted for him. Well, on second thought maybe you would have; you are obviously easily fooled.

Larry... I think we all get what you're trying to say. But explain this to us; how do you expect Obama to get you a job before January 20th. It just isn't legal. He's the President Elect. It's Bush who you should be directing the question to.

So although I sympathize with your situation, lord knows i've been there as well, i think must of us can only say that we hope that you had savings and prepared for such an event. If not, for that, you only have yourself to blame.

If you have saved, you need to keep in mind that NO ONE should expect a miracle to occur on the 20th of January. The situation of the country is just too bad. The economy will no doubt take YEARS maybe even an entire term to BEGIN to rectify itself. It's bleak, Yes.
But better than where McCain would have taken us.

Nobama--

Why do you right wingers keep repeating this NONSENSE???
Blacks voted overwhelmingly for Obama because he is a DEMOCRAT.

90% of blacks voted for John Kerry. Obama's percentage was only a bit higher. Part of that is the Bush team did an outreach to black voters but McCain's team abandoned that because they knew they had no chance.

You want to look at trends? Latinos voted for Obama 2 to1, much higher percentage than Kerry got. Is that racism? Al Gore beat Bush by 2% among 18-29s. Kerry beat Bush by 10%. Obama beat McCain by 35%!! Is this ageism??

Maybe you should have some facts before spewing.

A hallmark of the transition of power and the change in families residing in the White House is civility. The Bush family and the Obama family are among an exclusive circle of families: those who have resided in the White House. Can't we put party politics aside and relish this momentous time for 2 families. I have always enjoyed the pictures of both families after this first meeting and personal tour, and reading how helpful the wives and husbands have been. This is yet another example of our wonderful country and the continuity of governance.

CAN JOURNALISTS ACKNOWLEDGE THE 60% OF WHITE VOTERS OBAMA HAS RECEIVED
ONLY TALKING ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE IS NOT APPEALING AT ALL.
EVEN WITH A 50% SPLIT BLACK VOTES WOULD HAD STILL BE A WIN FOR OBAMA, SO WHY ONLY TALKING ABOUT US

PS I AM BLACK

To chuckles199 - you will get your "free" health care--socialized medicine at its height! But remember, Hillary tried that one and it didn't fly.....and I don't want the government telling me when and where I can go to the doctor or have a surgical procedure or get medication I need. That is what you will get if we get this health care plan. As for tax cuts, haha, that won't happen. Obama will increase the programs for those who want or think they deserve "free" stuff, and we will be paying for it for long after he is out of office, hopefully in 2012.......Everyone calls for change, but it will be the same old thing in a few months, because everyone says what we all want to hear to get elected. When you work with the morons in congress, can we expect less??

Noah---

And I would ask you to start. Maybe you should listen to someone other than Rush and Hannity.
Obama proposed "giving back"--community service--in exchange for a free college education. Seems fair to me.

And until Obama asks for a holiday--that story is nothing.
How about right wing nuts jobs wanting to put Reagan on Mount Rushmore??? True story...Grover Norquist proposed it.

If you seriously sit down and think about the last 8 years of George W. Bush's presidency and where we are today, there is only one conclusion left. This administration has done nothing, that's right absolutely nothing. George W. Bush sat in the Oval office for 8 long years and did nothing and was addressed as Mr. President while he mislead our nation and drove our economy into the ground.

to "nobama".

95% of of African Americans may have voted for Obama, but I fail to see how that is racist.

Considering most of the wealth in this country is held by the richest 1% of americans, I am surprised that 95% of everyone didn't vote for Obama.

Actually I'm not surprised, because I have visited West Virginia, Tennesee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, and seen firsthand how racist most of the whit popultaion is there. There is no way Obama was going to win those states.

Luckily he won despite all that, and he can start proving himself to ignorant people like you. It sure is nice to finally have an intelligent President again.

I hope there is not another stimulus package, as all the democrats will do is blame the increased deficit on Bush. We need to stop the train before the dollar is useless and we are like Japan doing a 10 year major recession. The Corporate and individual welfare must stop and the dollar strengthed and our national debt cut without raising taxes to cut investment. Also we must still drill since we know that in over 40 years of developing alternative energy we are nowhere near ready to stop our dependence on oil and gas. The drilling threat is the biggest reason for the downturn in oil prices and gasoline prices. Also we still need nuclear power as well as other alternative.

Today is the day for change. I feel that we should give OBAMA the right to be the President, just as we did Bush and every one before him. OBAMA is the man for the job, Because if he wasn't he wouldn't be the ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Give the man some time to do the things he siad he wants to do. I'am a young man that is ready for change. I feel if we the black people of the world don't give OBAMA a change he will not over come the "B S" the world is setting on his shoulder

I will serve my third tour of duty as medic very soon in Iraq and have voted as a Republican since I was eighteen starting with Regan. Now proudly registered as Independent ! President-Elect Obama is the first Democrate I have ever voted for, and feel extremely optimistic for the future of our country. Good leadership in any organization sets the tone and maintains the atmosphere. Let us hope the tone set by President-Elect Obama is the best for all of the American people and the atmosphere is one that Congress will follow through with great results !
@NOAH -- The only thing I hear about a "Civilian Security Force" is from extreme reactions by those against the President-Elect, or on unsubstantiated blogs with other conspiracy theories.

As for the community service, even if it is mandatory for students (I've heard conflicting reports) big deal. In order to graduate from my High School it was required that I complete a certain number of community service hours.

And regarding the Obama holiday? You're the only I've even heard mentioning it.

LIP,

I am looking forward to your first valid insight. I especially love how you completely gloss over the last 6 years. Sure, the Democrats have their hands dirty from Freddie and Fannie but the economy collapsed because this corrupt and evil administration thought it was OK to spend 10 BILLION a month fighting a war to enrich its friends (while cutting their taxes). Oh yeah, and all the while putting it all on the credit card.

If you want to criticizes Obama, go ahead but criticize for some valid reason. That's all we want.

How awkward must that tour be. I don't know which one is worse: The one where Clinton had to show Bush, who stole the election, or this one, because really Obama won by ripping Bush apart in his speeches.

Read quickly, since CNN never posts my comments!
I trust and hope that Pres. Obama's people will do a thorough sweep for electronic pests. BushCo is not to be trusted any more once they leave office than they've been trusted the past eight years.

Off the story line a bit but here's a question that might be of of minor interest to some...

If John F. Kennedy was called "Jack" - a family nickname and term of endearment - by most everyone in the press and his private life, then why can't we call Barack Obama "Barry", his mother's nickname and term of endearment for him?

There's nothing wrong with Barack mind you, just wondering about why we can't (or won't) apply the great American tradition of nicknames to him as well.

Is it because people and the press are afraid of offending him or being call a "racist" over using a family nickname rather than his given Christian name all the time?

Comments anyone?

I know there are some Republican people who are upset about all this fuss but heres the deal. The rest of us are getting the first full night sleep we have had in 8 years. I really felt like nothing I did mattered. When the country is depressed it's peoples are depressed and in the last 8 years our country has become a nation of overweight, depressed under achievers. No one talks about the emotional and pschological affect the Bush administration has had on our nation but I will tell you what it reminds me of....it reminds me of the short two years I was married to an abusive partner. And now he is gone. When you love your country and believe in its promise and its potential then it is nothing but painful to see that patriotism taken advantage of and watching your country go down the toilet. You bet we are going to make a big deal about this.....as big as possible.

The companies that make the Elvis and Nascar collectors plates and coins promising inflation in value (during a recession, hahaha) are already on every other commercial pushing Obama coins and collectors plates. Boy do they know the voters and where to find consumers!

You guys know there are crazies out there trying to hurt the Obamas. Why don't you tell your people to tell their people to stop stalking him and his family? Good greif, can the man get into the White House first? The public doesn't need to know his every step.

Obama already made history by winning the election; but the history he is about to make will be a briliant one. He will be one of the best, if not the best president the US ever had.

God keep him and his family safe so he can put the US back on the map again as a world leader.
