Obama is not holding a grudge against Sen. Lieberman.

(CNN) – Barack Obama won’t publicly weigh in on whether or not Sen. Joe Lieberman should keep his position as chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, the president-elect's transition office said.

According to Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter, the president-elect doesn't “hold any grudges” against Lieberman and thinks the Connecticut lawmaker should remain a part of the Democratic caucus.

"We aren't going to referee decisions about who should or should not be a committee chair,” Cutter said. “President-elect Obama looks forward to working with anyone to move the country forward. We'd be happy to have Sen. Lieberman caucus with the Democrats. We don't hold any grudges."

Sources told CNN Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told Lieberman last week that he's considering revoking Lieberman's chairmanship on the powerful Homeland Security committee and instead giving him a chairmanship on another, less important, committee. Lieberman reportedly called that proposal "not acceptable."

The full Democratic caucus will likely vote on this issue when it reconvenes next Tuesday, a senior Democratic aide told CNN’s Dana Bash.

Lieberman, an independent, typically votes with the Democrats on a majority of issues, but was a fixture on the campaign trail for John McCain. Lieberman angered Democrats by attacking Obama throughout the campaign, most visibly in a primetime speech during the Republican National Convention when he called Obama inexperienced and said “eloquence is no substitute for a record.”

[...] every citizen, Lieberman has the right to support whoever he wants. And Obama himself has come out and said he doesn’t hold any grudges against Lieberman over it; if he doesn’t, neither do [...]

Obama has transcended Lieberman's opinions. Obama doesn't need to hold a grudge – Lieberman means nothing.

Water seeks it's own level. Let him hang himself with the rope that he braided. If Lieberman is punished or sanctioned in any way. What does it say for this country.
We elected a new President to bring back our Constitutional right to Freedom of Choice. Now that we have what we wanted. Do we turn into the vendictive, venom spewing mongrels that we are replacing.
What's next? Do we punish all of the Democrats that voted for McCain?

Anonymous   November 11th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

Has anyone asked me? I sure do have a grudge against a Lieberman! The only reason he supported McCain is because he was sure that he will be selected for VP, pure and simple. He would cross any line, not just party line for that. I watched him to go from unobservant Jew to an Orthodox and back to unobservant as he needed it (yes, I am Jewish and therefore hold Lieberman to higher standards of conduct) and I don't believe he is a man of any integrity.

Mike in FXBG   November 11th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

Uh, huh...That's why Reid called Lieberman on the carpet. Obama, in case you Obamaites failed to notice, generally used his lackeys to do his dirty work. Now he has Reid, Pelosi, Dodd, Franks, etc., in his pocket. Pontius Pilate did the same with Jesus by washing his hands of the affair.

It is hard to imagine for the Democrats to want change and they can't forgive someone. This is the United States Of America the land of the free, with the freedom to express themselves. It is time to move on and get to work for the PEOPLE. I am a Democrat and I feel Sen. Reid needs to lead by example and forgive Liberman and do his job.

Anita   November 11th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Letting Liberman stay on in his role is a smart thing to do. Remember, Obama has to be above all the petty politics that goes on and show a different type of government. What Liberman said during the RNC convention and what he did throughout the campaign season was his belief in John McCain. There were many GOP's that supported Obama as well. This is not the time for any petty politics. We need to come together, all of us.

hmmmm...anyone ever read the art of war?
"keep your friends close, but keep you enemies closer"
not to say that Lieberman is an 'enemy' as such – he has declared himself and independent, which means he can pick and choose (or get more attention, something he seems to like)
but i feel Obama is pretty levelheaded.
maybe this is the new bipartisan era we've wanted...
however, it's up to us as well to discontinue the high school drama comments.
if we all want change, we have to 'be the change'.
it's something to think about.

Let me see if CNN will post my comment this time:

There is no other democrat who is more pro-war than Lieberman. He is on the opposite side of Obama on the most important foreign policy issues. What is the point of keeping him at such a powerful post? Who would do that for the sake of bipartisanship? So Obama's first act of reaching the otherside is to put warmongers in power? What kind of bipartisanship is this?

Lieberman not only did everything he could to kill the democratic ticket, but he is also on the opposite side on most important issues.

Fire Lieberman.

Julio   November 11th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Who cares. If President Elect Obama is willing to forgive and forget everyone should move on.

Chris F.   November 11th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

I think he should be punished in some form but I also believe it is time to work together.

Michael K   November 11th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Liebermann won in his home state of CT over Lamont because the GOP voters voted for him because their candidate was really lame and they didn't want Lamont to win. I doubt Joe will ever win there again. He is an ungrateful scumbag after Obama helped save his butt and he should be stripped of his powers. He might vote 90% of the time with the democrats but he can't be trusted. The democrat senators will do the dirty work and leave Obama free to take the high road. What republicans don't get is that this has been coming for a long time and Joe needs to feel the repercussions of his actions.

An American   November 11th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

You Obama supports keep teling people to get a life, that Obama has won and the people have spoken. What crap. By the time Obama gets done with all of us you will not even have a "right" to a life anymore. He will control the government and YOU.

Not all the people spoke for Obama and anyone with any brains at all would not one party to rule. You are idiots. Hopefully someone out there is looking out for our Country because Obama is looking out for control over US.

As you put it so nicely – out with the old in wih the new – kick him to the curb – you Obama suppoters are ugly, ugly people. A big part of me would love to see you get what you so badly voted for – but then the rest of us will all suffer as well.

Right. And Obama never heard a word of what Rev. Wright preached for 20 years either. What a liar.

Hal, Redondo Beach, CA   November 11th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Lieberman serves two masters. The question is, will his commitment to progressive principles and the Constitution be subservient to his desire to protect the interests of the hard-liners in Israel.

I think Joe's balancing act has become too precarious for him to maintain, and keep his graces with the electorate in Connecticut.

I think Reid and the Dems would be wise to leave the decisions regarding Liebermans future in the Senate to the good people of that state. In the meantime get him to join the caucus where he will support it. Put him somewhere other than the Foreign Relations, Defense or Homeland Security committees. Let him serve out his tenure as chair of the Pensions Committee.

Bill   November 11th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Why the surprise? Speaking your mind and honesty are not traits of the democratic party.

Dixie AZ   November 11th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Lieberman lobbied to become VP on the GOP ticket... therefore, he should not chair any committee - He should not be kicked out of the caucus, but if he wants to leave .... let him go, it's not like he is a real democrat or anything.

Ed   November 11th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Obama might not have any grudges against Liebarman but I sure do! He could have chosen to support his buddy McCain without being nasty about it, but he chose the low route. Let him go, he's not much use to the party anyway!

Coherent1   November 11th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

President Elect Obama is scary smart. I believe this is why so many are afraid of him. He thinks things through, meticulously and strategically. His decisions will not please everyone 100% of the time, but he will choose the greater good 100% of the time.

He can caucus with the Democrats but will not hold chairmanship to the committee he wants. For this, he will run to the republicans.

Edward   November 11th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Oh well, Lieberman was helping Republicans so hopefully they think he's ok. Now Obama should use Lieberman to work both sides of the isle, especially since Reps probably trust him more than they trust other Dems. So Obama should show his bi-partisan commitment by making Lieberman do the dirty work of convincing the Reps on certain issues, and if Lieberman refuses or fails to deliver what we need – kick him to the curb.

ran   November 11th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

He should be strip of any chairperson ship. Let him caucus wherever he wants. If he is a true independent and he cares about this country then he will do the right thing for this country. I feel for the people of CT. They are the ones who have to put up with him untill 2012.

CM   November 11th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Lieberman should be removed from committee chairmanships but allowed to caucus with the Democrats if he wants. There should be some consequences, not for supporting McCain, but making uncalled for comments against Obama.

Paul in FL   November 11th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

You would think that Lieberman would be too ashamed to caucus or anything with the Democrats. Apparently it is too much to expect a career politician to have anything resembling shame.

I guess no one is trying to rip Lieberman's off his right to choose... But the manner in which he did it. Lets face the fact, we heard and learned a lot from the campaign. He attacked Obama in some personal form that touched democrats including myself. I don't have any problem with Lieberman's choice for the highest office in America, we all have the right to one man one vote. As a leader and former vice presidential candidate with in the Democratic party, he went totally wrong.

If he wants to play along with the Dem majority now let him and treat his actions as a bonus but dont trust him if you cant get rid of him.

Ken in Dallas   November 11th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I just think the Homeland Security chair would be a good place for Hillary for the time being. Punishing Lieberman is ultimately up to the voters, but the Homeland Security chair deserves someone free of major trust issues.

John in Ohio   November 11th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Fighting for the military of a foreign country costs you your US citizenship.

Lieberman fought for the Republicans, and he fought against the Democrats in the process.

Why is it even a question? Take his chairmanship away, and if he still wants to caucus with the Dems great, if not let the Republicans take him. He campaigns for Republicans. He votes with Republicans. Let him caucus with the Republicans.

This is not rocket science.

Felines For Freedom   November 11th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Look, as a Dem, I was not thrilled to see Joe support McCain, but I agree with several points made here:

1) Joe is free to endorse whom he wants. I would like to retain the freedom to vote GOP if I felt it necessary at a given time w/o losing my DEM card permanently.

2) Obama is already demonstrating his ability and willingness to work across the aisle and with those who don't support him willy-nilly by refusing to involve himself and by suggesting Joe retain his posts. This, my fellow Dems, is good.

3) To the person who said "Keep your friends close and enemies closer," nail...head. Obama is smart. Scary smart. He has an endgame in sight while everyone else is jockeying for position. Wow, it feels good to have a President who is clearly more intelligent than I am.

No grudges for LIEberman, just no Chairmanships. If LIEberman is unhappy with that, he can join the Republicans and get voted out of office. He won his election because he swore he would support a Democrat for President. Joe Lieberman did what he does best, LIE. So Mr. LIEberman, take it or leave it. You lost quite a bit, the election, your credibility and your clout.

Donna from Colorado Springs   November 11th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Grog in Ohio   November 11th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Very magnanimous of the president-elect. But many of the rest of us think Joe Lieberman betrayed the people that voted for him at minimum and should be removed from chairmanships... at minimum.

70 days till the end of the Bush administration.

k   November 11th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I respect Joe Lieberman for supporting his long-time close friend. What did you all expect him to do throw him under the bus to tote the party line? Some things are more important than political differences! If he spouted off some Obama negatives in the process, so be it, that's the nature of the game, kind of like Obama playing nice with Bush after all the horrendous things Obama has said about him. Thankfully Pres Bush is not the gutter politician Obama is though. They hate each other, but have to do what they have to do.
As for Reid, I wish you would wither away and rot in hell, but my dumb fellow Nevadans will keep you gainfully wreaking havoc for elections to come...thanks California transplants!

The Rising of the Sun   November 11th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Anyone who can help move the country forward, should be considered, but Lieberman has burnt a whole lot of bridges and there is very little goodwill toward him.

I didn't care for him when Gore picked him, but now he really makes my skin crawl.

Libermans main concern seems to be how things effect Isreal, when his main concern should be the USA. Pushing him down the ladder a little can't hurt.

Rob Johnson   November 11th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Once again, Obama shows that he is a better person than many of his supporters.

How are you going to work with Republicans if you can't even work with a rogue member of your own party? Obama understands this, even if many of the posters here don't.

I don't like Lieberman either, and I wouldn't cry one tear if he lost his chairmanship, but if he wants to stay in the Democratic caucus, it's not unreasonable to try and work with him.

He chose to get us into 2 unending wars and get most of the world even our allies to hate us. How has Bush ever kept us safe?

CathyW   November 11th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

The whole idea the Senator Lieberman is a traitor is simply idiotic. He SHOULD support the candidate he thought was best for the job. He SHOULD vote the way he thinks is best. That is what he is elected to do!

On the one hand we smack down McCain for voting with Bush 70-95% of the time, and on the other hand, we also smack down Lieberman for crossing party lines (and most of the time he DOESN'T). He votes Democratic the vast majority of the time.

You can't have it both ways. Either it's a good thing for a candidate to cross party lines occasionally, or it's not.

Lieberman is a GOP collaborator. Bring out the knives.

jimmy-ohio   November 11th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

wow,the election is a week old and already everyone seems to forget the message that the majority of the country voted for,Bi-partisan co-operation.If lieberman supported McCain that is his right to do,if he wants to return to the dem caucus let him.It is up to the voters of Conneticut to decide his fate.BUT PLEASE let's remember what we voted for,an end to this bitter hatred among Americans,an end to being led by the extreme wing of a party ,it is time for ALL of this country to come together.Dems, bury the hatchet.Repubs all we ask is that you keep an open mind and give this a chance before condeming it.Remember this above all else,"united we stand, divided we fall."

Gary   November 11th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

He should put Lieberman in the Cabinet, right next to the toilet paper and the cleaning supplies.

who cares about Lieberman we won da election yeahhhhhhh

Lynn in NM   November 11th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Whatever!! Do you actually expect us to believe that? Look at the comments above! It's pretty bad when a person can't have their own beliefs in the US. Of course, that's what this is all about, isn't it? He is the only one that will cross party lines to do what is right for his constituents. Maybe if we had some other Senators and Representatives that would do the same, we would be able to make something of this term. Won't happen, though. Everyone is out for themselves. That's what politicians are all about – themselves. Clinton started the divisiveness and it will continue, until everyone that is in office is voted out. Pelosi is in charge now. And it continues.....

Noah   November 11th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

JEFF- you are correct. Lieberman's views on homeland security are different from Obama's. Lieberman holds the correct views while Obama holds the naiive and downright dangerous views on Homeland Security. Say what you want about Bush's many failures but one thing he did was keep all of us safe after 9-11, with the help of people like Lieberman. Obama will put us more at risk by significantly reducing the Homeland Security budget and holding talks with Iran and N Korea, among others. Scary

Tanya   November 11th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Let the people decide whether he stays! My decision would be to let him go. Come on....he knew Obama was winning.. look....he didn't even check the polls before he made that decision. Poor decision maker PERIOD!

Sarah   November 11th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

The problem isn't that Lieberman voiced his opinion. The problem is that he promised he would support McCain, not attack Obama. He questioned Obama's patriotism and suggested he was a marxist, and broke that promise even more by campaigning for down ticket republicans as well. Yeah, he used freedom of speech, but there's no reason why the democrats should welcome him back with open arms. He IS a slime ball and a traitor, not to mention a complete moron. He can go talk crap and exercise the freedom of speech as a member of the republican caucus, if it comes to that.

Btw, do you know who went and campaigned for this traitor back when he lost the democratic primary in Connecticut the last election? That's right, Barack Obama.

CT Mama for Obama   November 11th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

So let me get this straight. You applaud Republicans who cross over support the other party. Yet, a Democrat does it and you complain and call him a traitor? Okay, if that's how it goes, then wouldn't that make Colin Powell and Chuck Hagel a traitor as well? (I don't think they are traitors, I'm just trying to prove a point). In case y'all didn't forget, this is America, and people can support whomever they want for President WITHOUT repercussions. That is one of the things that makes American great, and people seem to have forgotten that.

Aaron from ohio   November 11th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Senator Lieberman bet his political future and lost. His best hope lies in a McCain administration. Maybe he could be Chairman of Getting Coffee and Answering the Phone. He wanted to be VP and now he's nothing. Those ashes on the floor aren't from a victory cigar, they're the ashes of his career.

Putting partisanship and "revenge" aside, if we take into account what Joe SAI during the campaign, it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that his views on homeland security are at odds with our new President. For this reason alone, he has no business chairing that committee.

Hippies, what are you whining about? Lieberman may be among the dying breed of pro-defense Democrats, but in his heart of hearts, he is very much a tax and spend liberal. He votes like a conservative 5 percent of the time and votes like Bernie Sanders the other 95.

Trust me, you've got enough patchouli votes to ensure we're all going to get saddled with New Deal 2.0... so again, what are you whining about?

I'd like to know why the media & Pelosi & Co. thinks it can churn out sexist & ageist smears and allow it's audience and talking heads to do the same. Do you think the media whould have allowed racist comments day and night or allowed it's hired guns to say racist things about Obama? As far as I'm concerned this all election was rigged in Obama's favor and feels bought.

As a Connecticut resident and a democrat I can tell you that the people of Connecticut will have there day to speak. Joe Lieberman is as good as gone. He made his bed and that was his choice now he will have to lay in it. It's not that he supported John McCain he has a right to support any one he wants, it's the way he tossed President Elect Obama under the bus. We don't forget so soon.

Sandy   November 11th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

If it's such a free country then why did everyone beat up on President Elect Obama when Rev Wright spoke so poorly and many people jjudged Obama, is Rev not entitled to His opinions? Lieberman can say what He wants and it's no problem.

Dump this old windbag.
He, like his buddby McCain, are representative all that is tired, old and _wrong_ with this country.

Obama is a breath of fresh air; the next generation is finally taking over the controls, and just in time!

BTW, I'm an old fart boomer and big Obama supporter. I'm quite ready to hand the reins to the younger generation. My generation has screwed up royally, mostly due to religious brainwashing.

Good move Mr. Obama. Let the voters vote Senator Lieberman out of office if they so choose. He spoke his mind which he was free to do in our country and he is accountable to the voters of his state.

Obama is the true statesman to not get involved and keep himself above the fray. Especially since Obama helped and endorsed Lieberman in Lieberman's campaign. Lieberman should feel really stupid right about now.

At least Obama will not say anything negative about anyone. So, all you Palin, Lieberman, McCain haters, get over it. If you can't say anythng nice about anyone take a chill pill and get on with your daily lives. OH, I did VOTE for Obama by the way. We have more important things to worry about, like this mini-depression we are in now, and things probably won't get anybetter until the DOW hits around the 7,000 mark.

yen   November 11th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Not easy to understand J.Lieberman's deep political conviction. But it is very strange to see him standing at different places. Perhaps now he should decide finally where he belongs. FI used to admire him when he was a demo.

FreeNLovIt   November 11th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Obama won the biggest prize of them all, so Lieberman is forgiven for his acts. People, keep him around. If you dont like it, run for his Senate seat.

Brian from Fort Mill, SC   November 11th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

My guess is that they are going to keep Joe Lieberman. I suppose they think that, since they won the election, no harm no foul.

I don't know if I agree with that, but they are going to need as many senators as possible, so they can push their agenda.

observer   November 11th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Democrats and Republicans,

Stop fighting with each other. The nation is in critical situation and this is not the time to argue. Election is over and people have voiced up to support Dems. Next election is still far and get work done first before talking about getting new votes.

Now that I have satisifed the CNN moderator, lets see a show of hands: How many want to punish and vilify the most moderate, selfless and ethical person in the caucus? If I were a GOP chairman, I would offer Lieberman a place in the GOP caucus, even if he doesn't want to join the party.

Obama for Leader   November 11th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I think pres. Elect Obama is right. Leave this pathetic man be on his own. One reaps what they sow and Lieberman will get what ever he diserves on his own, guaranteed!!!!

Independent   November 11th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

There should be nothing to stop him from having his own opinion. But also, after campaigning persistently for John McCain, there should also be nothing forcing the Democrats to use their votes to keep him in a leadership position as chairman of the committee.

NJ   November 11th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Peter (CA)   November 11th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

3strikes and 01/20/13-Get a life. You guys are not the solution, you are the problem.

What did you want Obama to say? He handled it as best as he could, The problem is Lieberman. Remember 2006? When he lost the primary and the Democratic Party endorsed Lamont? Lieberman thanked a senator for coming out to campaign for him. A senator he said he was a "mentor" to. A senator he was proud to call a "colleague" and a "friend".
And that senator was......Barack Obama. The same Obama he trashed at the Republican convention and in the campaign.

This is not about Obama. This is all about Lieberman.

Ryan, Denver   November 11th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

I'm glad that President – Elect Obama doesn't hold grudges, he's above such pettiness – but I do! I say kick the turncoat to the curb with the rest of the Zell Miller trash.

JH from CT   November 11th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Obama doesn't need to waste his time with Lieberman. We'll take care of him in CT in 2010. Till then, let him try to suck up to the Dems in Congress.

DEM1   November 11th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Most of the Dem on have no clue about politics. the Man is in the middle and that where we all should be. We have been in power for the last 2 years and nothing has changed. I don't see much change in the next 4 years. The economy will fix it self like it always has.

LIP   November 11th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Lieberman is no different than the Republican turn coats that say whatever is approproiate for the occasion. Lieberman rides the middle rail and those that do, often flop from side to side, which is where I would like to see the far left and far right. More of the people's work would be accomplished.

Kina, A Veteran in NYC   November 11th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

it's very disgraceful all the bad-mouthing Sen. Lieberman did to President-elect Obama, especially after former senator Obama campaigned for him in 2006...but i believe Sen. Lieberman is gonna be poster for President-elect Obama's presidency...the new president ain't gonna hold a grudge, i'm sure, and he's gonna let this issue be water under the bridge...but Sen. Lieberman shld be ashamed of himself, nonetheless.

Kina

C A   November 11th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

I can appreciate Obama's desire to bring people together and an apparent strategy to keep your enemies close as well as your friends. However, it was not that Liebermann supported McCain. If he felt strongly about that then so be it. One can appreciate that. But it was the manner in which he supported McCain. By accepting and participating in the inferences and clear references that Obama was anti-American, a Muslim, a threat to U.S. security, a socialist, a terrorist, etc, etc, Liebermann should be held accountable. Not for supporting McCain. But for participating in politics that went beyond nasty including the lies coming out of Palin and McCain about Obama that Liebermann knew were not true.

Although this will be up to the Dems in Congress I suppose they need to strongly consider Obama's feelings on the issue. He is certainly a better man than me. I for one would be ripping Liebermann a new one.

Cheri   November 11th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

While I do not believe that Leiberman should be kicked out of the Democratic Caucus, I do believe there should be repercussions for the tenor of Leiberman's support of McCain during the election cycle. I applaud Leiberman for standing up for what he believes in...but I think he went about it the wrong way and was unnecessarily vicious when he laid into Obama.

Ike   November 11th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

LIEBERMAN SHOULD RESIGN HONORABLY HIS CHARMANSHIP POSITION BECAUSE HE CANNOT EAT HIS CAKE AND STILL HAVE IT. HE HAS TOLD THE WORLD HE IS NOT A DEMOCRATE, SO HE SHOULD STOP PETCHING WITH THE DEMOCRATES.

Janey /proud American/michigan   November 11th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Lieberman does not need the likes of Obama sticking up for him. He has proven himself over and over. He is obviously not intimidated by the left or he would not have supported J McCain. Keep your arrogance to yourself, Obama.

Mary Steins   November 11th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

I'm glad Obama is not going to hold a grudge, but I am. If I recall correctly, Lieberman was by Sara Palin's side inciting fear and calling Obama a friend of terrorists. I'm sorry, but I've moved on from decades long friendships over much less.

I'm sure Lieberman wants to be on the winning team. Stip him of his chair position on the Homeland Security Committee. Tell him he needs to work on trust, loyalty and the party. Then he can get his post back!

Andy Toledo   November 11th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

For a party that claims we need to be open to everyone views, why can't you let Joe have his own point of view? So what he didn't support the Dems candidate, it is a free country, let him do what he believes is right.

debchuck   November 11th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Lieberman made his political bed when he supported McCain. Let the chips fall wherever the axe lays them. Obviously, he cannot be trusted. The Dems owe him absolutely nothing. If he wants to stay, let him rejoin the Democrat Party and run under the Dem's policies ad procedures. I wouldn't go out of my way to pour water on him if he was on fire.

If he can be useful to Dems, then tell him so and tell him what the requirements are: (1) drop the independent crap; (2) be a Dem first and foremost; (3) renounce Republicans; (4) apologize the the country for his misdeeds and misguided ways.

Then, we can talk!!!

Karen from Charlottesville   November 11th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Terry B.   November 11th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

The Democratic party needs to go ahead and dump "Joe the undecider" It will send a strong statement to anyone else who wants to be in the party and chooses to make a bed with the opposition. Who cares if Joe finds it unacceptable to a demotion, he didn't find it unacceptable to want to be in the dem's caucus and yet show up to the GOP convention and all over the map with McCain while verbally blasting Obama. If Ried and the Dems in the Senate cave to Joe then maybe they don't deserve to be in charge...
