New polls suggest just under half the American public have an unfavorable opinion of Palin.

(CNN) - Just a week after this year’s presidential election, 2012 buzz may already be swirling around Sarah Palin – but a new national poll suggests just under half the American public holds a favorable opinion of the Alaska governor, with nearly as many viewing her unfavorably.

Forty-nine percent of those questioned in the survey released Wednesday have a favorable opinion of the woman John McCain picked as his running mate. Forty-three percent view her unfavorably.

And perceptions of Palin seem to be dropping.

"In early September, just after the GOP convention, her favorable rating among registered voters was 57 percent, and only a quarter of all registered voters had an unfavorable view of her," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. Now, Palin is less popular than vice president-elect Joe Biden, with a 64 percent favorable rating, or ticket-mate John McCain, who is seen favorably by 61 percent of the public

The poll also suggests that men may have a slightly more positive view of Palin than women, with 51 percent of males viewing her favorably, compared to 48 percent of female respondents. Forty-one percent of males questioned in the survey have an unfavorable opinion of Palin, as do 44 percent of women.

"With fairly high negatives and lower support among women, who should be a natural constituency for Palin, she's not starting off from a position of strength," says Holland. "The question is no longer whether Palin was a drag on the McCain ticket, but whether her unfavorables could be a drag on a future Palin ticket."

Among Republicans. Palin's rating remains high, with 86 percent of Republicans questioned in the poll holding a favorable opinion of her. That number drops to 48 percent among Independents, and down to 27 percent among Democrats.

Palin is attending the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami, Florida today and tomorrow – the first major gathering of GOP leaders since the party lost the White House, along with additional seats in both the House and the Senate.

There's been speculation that Palin – along with other incumbent governors at the conference like Charlie Crist of Florida, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota - could have designs on running down the road for the Republican presidential nomination in the next race for the White House. All three governors were on John McCain's list of possible running mates, before the Arizona senator named Palin as his running mate.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted November 6-9, with 1,246 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The poll comes as Palin sits down for a one-on-one interview today with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, which can be seen on the Situation Room starting at 4 pm ET. Palin is also speaking with CNN's Larry King: that interview can be seen on Larry King Live at 9 pm ET, and again at 9 pm PT.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   November 12th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

The question should be: do you think she can do the job. No one should be elected based on how likable they are. Look at what happened in 2000; we got a candidate who didn't know Social Security was federal program.

We should be voting on the idea of someone being able to do the job. Obama can do the job because he has the understanding and intellectual curiosity to explore options with minimal influence of ideology. Palin can't claim that.

Rob   November 12th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

49% – OMG, she's a has been !
What people won't do to try and destroy someone they simply don't understand. Why does this woman scare you so much

I have to laugh at the same posters on this board that always post, "Go away Sarah". Of course, they want her to go away. She scares them with he rhuge popularity and charismatic way. Watch out Sarah is getting stronger and stronger!!!

Mike, Syracuse NY   November 12th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

Predicting who the Rep. nominee will be in 2012 is impossible. Just a year ago Hillary was a shoe-in for the Dems. 4 tears is an eternity in politics. In fact if Obama and the Dem. Congress don't rack up some real progress quickly, you can bet that the Reps. will take at least one house back in 2010 like they did after the first 2 years of Clinton's fiasco.

kimmyrn   November 12th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

The Republican Party needs to start asking everyday citizens what is wrong with their party if they really want to find an answer. I have heard people within the party debating which direction to go and it scares me to hear that many of them want to go "more to the right". Excuse me but if you go any further to the right you are going to fall off the face of the earth. When I heard Sarah Palin say that she doesnt even believe in abortion in the case of rape or incest I thought.....IS SHE CRAZY????? Ask most women what they think of abortion, separation of church and state ,health care, deregulaion of wall street and the insurance industry and you will get an idea of where most americans think we should be on these issues. If the Republican party goes any further to the right I believe we will see that party fall apart. You have to remember that not EVERYONE in this country is an evangelical christian, you have Jews, catholics, mormons, muslims, wiccans ect. and the far right religious wing in this country need not be embraced so dearly by the Republicans as tho their way is the only way. You continue to embrace this ideology and this party is in for a world of hurt. But Im just a midwest mom who thinks that they need to ask americans what direction this party should take.

Palin MIGHT be ok to watch a hockey game with. But President of the US of A – PLEASE

Earl in FL   November 12th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Palin appeared at a rally nearby. And as an Obama supporter, I was tempted to attend. There were two motives:

1. Morbid curiosity - to see a live train wreck.

2. To get a sense of the crowd - what kind of people would go to see her?

I stayed home.

But I hope the GOP embraces (and nominates) Palin – she will exemplify why the GOP is losing ground - a shrinking anti-intellectual, xenophobic, party based largely on white evangelicals in the the rural South, Mountain West and Great Plaines (with Texas the only large state McCain carried). As such, she will be a modern Joan of Arc, leading a lost cause.

reggie   November 12th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

CNN, apparently you are not talking to enough people. Everyone I know is even more fired up and supportive of Gov. Palin than they were during the campaign. In fact, all the talk shows are trying to book her because of her populatiry. SHe is the future!

Dems for Palin 2012   November 12th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Many Republicans want her to run for President in 2012. All of the Democrats want her to run so that Obama wins re-election in a landslide.

Fear and hatred is all she has to sell. It didn't work in 2008. It won't work in 2012.

Spare us, CNN   November 12th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

I can't believe all the talk going on about Palin in 2012. Gov. Palin represents all that is wrong with the Republican Party – extreme views, not fiscally conservative (don't forget the Bridge to Nowhere!), abused her power, etc.

The Republican Party needs to run as far, far away from Palin as they can get.

Observer   November 12th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

Please, Mrs. Palin, go on TV any and every opportunity you can. Every time you speak in public, your numbers go down. Each time we hear you we get a better understanding of why we are so lucky you and McCain did not win. So, you know, like, keep on talkin' and that there mavericky suff that you do!

Bubba   November 12th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Palinoscopy continues. Her opinions are both ignorant and barbaric, and her voice could peel paint off a snowmobile. She cannot resist a camera, which leads me to speculate upon how many dodgy videos of her are tucked up under the First Dood's mattress, and she cannot keep from running her mouth.
The GOP will either explode trying to internalize her as a valid candidate, or split into two or three parties. Joe the Plumber could be her running mate.

Who Cares   November 12th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

She has some good qualities, and she's appealing to a lot of people. She's clearly not ready for the presidency or even the VP right now, but four years is a long time, and it could easily be eight. If she starts to prepare herself now, that might be enough time. Stranger things have happened. She's obviously alienated a lot of people as well who will never vote for her under any circumstances, and she represents a political philosophy many won't vote for even if she were as smart as Obama. But she doesn't need them. All she needs is 50%+1. If Bush, who is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, could do it, she could, too.

alex   November 12th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

No please run in 2012 Palin it will make it easier for Obama to get reelected and help with SNL rating! YOU BETCHA

No way would I ever consider voting for her as President...and I am an independent who has voted both parties at various times. I just don't think she knows how to tell the WHOLE TRUTH about anything she has done. It just seems that if the Republicans even think of running her in 2012 they might as well not even enter the race...it would be like entering a pet rock to swim against Michael Phelps!

John   November 12th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Maybe if she is a senator she might learn the names of all the states after 6 weeks of roll calls.

Hilary may not have been overlay popiular but she has a brain and knows history and geography and how to get things done.

I GUARANTEE YOU IF SARAH WAS OUR PRESIDENT SHE WOULD SHAKE UP WASHINGTON.

THE FIRST THING SHE WOULD DO IS SEND PELOSI AND REID ON A ONE WAY TICKET OUT OF WASHINGTON.

Tom in Ohio   November 12th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

She's a drag on us all...enough already. She should go about being governor of a state with fewer people than any of Ohio's major metropolitan areas, and focus on trying to get that state to live within it's means. With all of that oil money up there, and her avowed distaste for earmarks, she should immediately set about refusing any and all federal earmarks that come her way. Of course, she might have to dip into the "shared resources" (Marxist as that sounds!) that Alaskans get a check for every year to do that. But would it make a statement? You betcha!!!!

Linda   November 12th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about Sarah Palin. She lost. Move on CNN. Why are you continue to talk about her. She is not this super star CNN is trying to make her out to be. Why do we still have to hear about her. Give me a break CNN. If you love her some much, then move CNN to Alaska then you can talk about her all you want, but right now, my husband and I are sick of hearing about her. The election is over, she lost, we are happy now so please CNN stop trying to keep her in the spot light. When she was VeePee, she won't even talk to you guys, now she lost therefore, you want to keep give her all of this free cover. When not cover me?

kathy   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

I'm surprised her favourable rating was even that high. She is NOT qualified and i doubt very much if she'd ever be!...she may now be talking w/the press but she's still the same airhead.

I actually think Joe the (unlicensed, non-tax paying) plumber should be at the head of the ticket, with Palin as the VP. Maybe Tito the builder could be secretary of state, and Hank the angry, drunken dwarf could be the Chief of staff.

A Really Conservative Realist   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

I get tickled at all the folks who voted left that call Palin dumb. Sure, she didn't come across as brilliant when interviewed by the main-stream. But if the main-stream media had a conservative bent, they could have just as easily made BO out to look flaky. I was in the minority of the country that voted for common sense, not welfare. Said another way, I would be more comfortable with a VP stacked up with common sense, than Biden, who is an "intellect."

Finally, most of you hate her because you are married to someone who is not as attractive. But hey, Maddow is quite handsome.

EL CUBANO   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Alex   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

I am truly truly afraid for her running in 2012 or even 2016... the extreme right wing of the party will take over this country. We will go back to 1000 years with no human rights... ignore everything except churches... burn anyone who says "america is bad"... that's what it comes down too...

Cathy   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Can't intelligent people see the red flags of mental instability in this woman?
Sure she's got confidence, self esteem and good public speaking skills as a far as "selling herself" -not bad for a political aspirations, But she factually has a spotty education, limited experiences and does not come from a powerful family in which she might have gleened worldly exposure.
She acts invincible, like Super Man! She looks to God for self justification!
She is completely unaware of her own lack of articulation and connects only to those who are sadly, beneath her. If I had to guess, I'd say she's out of touch with her own capabilities and is on the thresh hold if personality or bi-polar disorder. SCARY!!!!

CW   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

I wish that the media would ask her tough questions to let her either put up or shut up. Asking the same questions about her critics or her clothes will never expose what she does or doesn't know about the real world. The public is being fed a steady diet of he-said she-said nonsense. Now that Palin no longer has campaign talking points and appears to want a lot of media attention, let her answer the tough stuff. As she said during the campaign–it's time to take the gloves off (or put the heels on, whatever). So I'm asking the media to PLEASE ask her the tough questions, the questions about foreign and domestic policy that she was supposed to know about in her run for VP. Let's hear what she has to say now that the muzzle is off.

Whiner   November 12th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

After attending to the economic woes of the country, President-elect Obama’s next priority should be education. Ignorance and bigotry need to be suppressed. Palin has confidence but she is sorely lacking in certain disciplines. As to Congressman Broun – he needs to be handed a good dictionary and given proper Civics lessons so that he does not confuse, Marxism, Facism, Socialism, etc., then ultimately place them in one bag.

Red, Red WHINE!!   November 12th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

Cindy, California   November 12th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

President Elect Obama 'knows what he doesn't know.'

Gov. opportunist Palin...well, she doesn't know what she needs to know. Ah shucks, golly gee... like you know the Constitution, or maybe the separation of church and state, or maybe how to structure a sentence, or the difference between a country vs. continent, or foreign policy, or that inspiring unity through conscious intelligence is greater than inciting divisiveness through fear and hate. You know, the simple things that make our nation great.

Palin does exemplify or embody the character of a great leader. She's a politician thriving on the adrenaline rush of national media attention, and the hordes of adoring fans gathering at her hate rallies. But she'll never be qualified to lead this nation.

And frankly, I welcome the day when the media gives us a rest from her tired story, that annoyingly shrill voice, as well as the idiocy and mediocrity of leadership being heralded as the future of the GOP.

Palin can't relate to our childrens future in science and math when she nor her husband have aspired to attain higher education.

Many of the people writing on this blog are mean, spiteful, and hateful. As many purport to be Obama supporters, I would recommend you follow his advice and stop slamming Republicans and Governor Palin; this disrepect and spitefulness does not unity make. Sarah Palin is the governor of Alaska and was the GOP ticket's vice-presidential nominee. As such, she deserves, at minimum, a modicum of respect. She is not the idiot that many claim her to be. I have seen and read many interviews with her, and I do not get my news from Saturday Night Live. The one thing I do know for sure is that no sitting or former governor of a state deserves this type of treatment, and you should all be ashamed.

Sarah Palin and the rest of the Republican Party do not seem to get it. America has decided to the tune of 65 million votes that we do not believe anything you say. 65 million of us do not believe our next President is a marxist, a radical terrorist, or a socialist. Republicans like the Senator from Georgia do not seem to understand that they sound like sore losers and crack pots. Every time one of those guys open their mouths they alienate the American people even more. The Republicans sadly believe what they are saying is true. It is obvious to 65 million of us, the Republicans are desperate to hang on to what little they have left and they will tear down anyone else along the plumett downward. Do America a favor GOP and go away quietly into the night. The rest of us will run toward the light of the future for this country we love. Republicans we have had ENOUGH!!!!

Sarah Palin is a extreme right wing nut, who does not represent those that I know, she represents that fraction of the Republican Party that believes that being their kind of Christian is the only religion that should be approved. There's a really simple solution for those of you for whom this is too complicated to figure out: don't click on links that have the word "Palin" in them.

I prefer Ms Palin staying as Governor of Alaska...

that way she can continue to outsource jobs to Canada (like the pipeline project to TransCanada).

Laura   November 12th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

The reason why people are sick of hearing about her is because the medias main focus was to ruin her credibility with the people, which they succeeded in doing. She was in the campaign for ONLY 2 months! You rarely heard about what she did as mayor and Governor of Alaska; all you heard was every single news outlet, except for fox, spewing mis-information about McCain and Palin while endorsing and praising Obama. What ever happened to reporting unbiased news? We don't know everything the President knows on a national security level etc., so of course he'll have to change the promises he made to the people but the Democrats seemed to jump right on it after the election by telling everyone 'oh he can't do everything he promised'; what happened to 'yes we can'? Everyone seemed to buy into the "change" motto...change is just a word, it's just a motto if there's no follow-thru...we'll have four years to see what he's really about.

Sarah Palin is not even close to being a viable candidate for president. She has not had the experience or education to even half ready for the presidency.
She may be able to get advisors to give her speeches and keep her under control but I doubt it, She is hard headed enough to break out and start saying things that do not make any kind of sense.
I have nothing against her as a person or even as governor of Alaska, remember Alaska may be big area, but it is small in population. It has the oil revenue that keeps from having to pay income taxes to the state. They even get some 3000 dollars a year in income from the oil revenue that comes to state from the oil.
That is why she wants to explore for oil in Alaska, they get money from the production and do not pay taxes so the no tax policy is not even an issue it Alaska.
Who is going to negotiate a new revenue plan or maybe they are on a percentage basis for the oil rebates, as the crude costs come down. I understand she picked a single contractor for the purposed natural gas line that is suppose to bring natural gas from Prudhoe bay, she did not let it to be a bid process, that is another strike against her in my opinion.

FromTexas   November 12th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Every time Palin opens her mouth, the democrats receive votes. The more people know her, the less they like her. The fact that republicans are still talking about her shows they learned nothing from their defeat last week and are doomed to repeat their mistakes. Sorry Hilton, but Palin is the true celebrity that emerged from the race.

S.M   November 12th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Of course most men would have a favorable opinion of Gov. Palin because they're only focusing on Sarag;s looks and not her intelligence. This woman wasn't qualified for VP from the start and John McCain did himself a disservice by chosing her for his running mate.

Emily   November 12th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

I'm glad I stick to Fox News! You people over here are unbelivable!! She's not going anywhere, so just get used to you. She'll be back in 2012 and she'll have my vote again. After 4 years of an Obamanation you'll be ready too!

Palin: "Hey, look at me. I'm still here. Look at what I said. Look, look. I'm still here"

Sue in MI   November 12th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

I have not been any more impressed with the Governor since this new round of interviews is being shown. Funny how last week the Republican handlers leaking information were "mean" and now she reports that that was "no tension" on the trail, and that she and John McCain love and respect each other.
I'm also fascinated by the admiration Republicans have for a woman who cheated on her husband and a man who did the same to his handicapped wife, yet they want to crucify John Edwards. Typical Republican hypocrisy.

Just because the Obama campaign chose to not make an issue of these things, and the MSM did not follow up on them, does not mean they never happened. Wonder what her God thinks of that behavior. And her race-baiting off script showed people who she really is- a mean, competitive, win-at-all-costs politician, not some benign, misunderstood, picked upon hockey mom with a cute, junior high approach to the world.

If the GOP is seriously considering Palin for future leadership over Jindal and others who are obviously qualified and respectable leaders, they deserve the demise that will come.

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   November 12th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

The proof is in the numbers.
She'll get Reps to vote for her. But if Indies don't, and we know Dems won't, she can't win a national election.
I'd still like to know how Todd Palin got access to 3 stacks of personnel files for Trooper Wooten. And, if Gov. Palin thinks that the person who gave him those files should be fired.

Good grief. The media is obsessed with talking about Palin and giving her air time since the election. Newsflash to media. We could care less what Palin's doing, saying and thinking. Get over her so she can go away. Please!

Robert   November 12th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

The reason men favor Palin so much more than women isn't only that they find her attractive.

She doesn't share the same philosophy as most women in this country. That's why so many women supported the Democrat in the election. Why would they want to support the party that doesn't have the best interest of women or any other minority at heart?

It would be voting against yourself to be a woman who votes for Palin. Just like it would be for a gay person or African-American to vote Republican.

Chipster   November 12th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Gov. Palin has revealed just how hurt she is about the nasty comments from some of the McCain campaign staff. She should take heart in the fact that it reflects more on their lack of professionalism and their refusal to accept responsibility. Pettiness over the RNC clothes and other nonsense should simply be recognized for what it is: finger-pointing and immaturity.

And Gov. Palin, that's an Obama supporters opinion. Thank you for serving your country. Even if we disagree on the issues or the McCain campaigns focus on personal attacks instead of issues, you took the hits and kept going. Dust yourself off and begin again.

Bill   November 12th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Palin is a literal symbol of everything that is terribly wrong with the republican party: Ignorance, Intolerance and Corruption. If Republicans want to continue losing, be our guest and nominate Palin 2012.

If Sarah Palin is the best WOMAN Presidential candidate that the Republican Party can come up with, then that party and America are in serious trouble.

I saw a sticker on a van the other day that said, "Palin in 2012."

WOMEN should be very proud that they finally have the BEST representative for women available in Sarah Palin for Presidnet 2012.

It seems that GOP's talents has reach the bottom that they are even comtemplating PALIN.

IS THAT ALL GOP LEFT WITH TALENT WISE? PALIN?

Do they think that we American are fool not to recognize that Palin has no interest in learning and just ambition to rule. I am sorry, but it's scary to give the control of such a great nation to someone who just want the position but does not have the interest to educate herself. BTW, we WILL NOT BE FOOLED IN 4 or 8 YEARS EITHER. IF SHE REALLY WANTED TO LEARN ABOUT THIS COUNTRY, SHE WOULD HAVE DONE SO BY NOW. I don't buy the fact that she will learn in next 4/8 years. The issue is not learning now, the issue is her ambition and lack of interest in GENERAL.

bill b. from Stratford,Ct   November 12th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

If this is who the Rethugs want to run their racist party, the Dems don't have anything to worry about for years. Palin is a liar a nut case and a serious WHACK JOB. The GOP doesn't care who their leaders are as long as they can spread hate and racist talk, they're ok with them.

trying to be reasonable in WV   November 12th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

When I first heard the announcement about McCain's pick of Palin, my first reaction was surprise, as in "WHO??? WHAT is he THINKING??" My second reaction was joy, as in "GOOD, now no rational person can take his criticisms of Obama's inexperience seriously!" Next came a type of sympathy for her, as in "This woman is being cynically exploited by McCain in order to attract disaffected female PUMA-types." Then came "Wait a minute! She said YES! What is SHE thinking???"

I think Sarah Palin is reasonably smart. Obviously, she pushes a lot of emotional buttons (both good and bad, depending on one's political affiliation). She is also miserably uninformed. She will have to expand her knowledge basis dramatically in order to begin to be ready for national office. Will she bother? Hard to tell. If she does bother, I hope that dramatically expanding her knowledge base will also dramatically open up her mind. Only then will she be ready for the next level.

Eric   November 12th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Now, the question is what is driving this rating on Palin.
Is it because she is a woman? remember Hillary?
Is it because of the relentless attacks by the insiders and the media?
Is it because of her social conservative views?
Is it because she gave birth to a baby with down syndrome?
Is it because she is not a Washington politician and does the Washington speak?
Is it because she is a beautiful woman since women turn to be their own worst enemy?
I wish your polling would reflect these issues otherwise I see no credibility in the results.
Remember Biden has been in DC for 36 years, McCain for 26 and Obama has been running for president for 2 years. Palin just showed up 4 weeks ago.

Palin was a very poor pick for VP. She has set women back 20 years. McCain was pandering to women who lost Clinton. Palin is nothing like Clinton. Clinton actually has brains and can answer questions coherently. She was one of the reasons I did not vote for McCain and I was a life long republican. I simply picked who I thought was better for the US at this point in time. She should NOT be running for any anything! The folks that want a regular person they can relate to like Palin... you had that for 8 years. It's time for someone smarter than us at the top.

Dan   November 12th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

As a democrat i'd be absolutely thrilled if the GOP was stupid enough to pick her in 2012. It's hard to believe there's anyone out there who thinks she's in any way qualified to be President. She didn't even know Africa was a continent. Is that the sort of person who should be running the most powerful country in the world?

james last   November 12th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Sarah Palin is the most qualified person to lead this country. She is razor sharp and has an untricate knowledge of the world and it's politics. Her experience in foreign affairs, her charisma, her appeal to clinton voters, her ability to shine under fire of liberal media, her unequalled support for the sciences and rational thinking make her the best suitable for the highest post.

No, really, I mean it.

Really.

McCain The Pimp!

Sen. McCain pimped Gov. Palin. His campain (GOPs) was in need of campain contributions, and lots of it. So, what did he do? What any other man in his situation would do. He found a young pretty thing with no common sense about these kinds of things from Wasilla he could pimp for his campain. He made sure that she didn't open her mouth unless told. And, did what she was suppose to do to get that campain contribution money rolling in. McCain and his boys were almost and I say almost brilliant! But, the only thing they didn't count on was to run in to "Superfly Obama" and his boys who had all the $$$$. So, the bottom line is; Sarah Palin set females back again. Because, she got Pimp! LOL

Georgia Gal   November 12th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

If Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican party, then I will never be a repulican again, along with Joe The Plumber, it has become a dumb and dumber party, she is just not very smart, I don't care if she connects with the base or not, we expect our leader to be much smarter than us, not just like us. The Repulican Party better wake up, and chose a leader of the 21st century, maybe Bobby Jindal of Lousinna, not someone like Palin whose view belongs to the 19th century.

Annie, Atlanta   November 12th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

If she is the future of the Republican Party, as a Democrat I'm all for it. And the more she speaks, the better we look. Eisenhower would be ashamed if he were still with us.

It really amazes how critical people are of one another. Making comments like she can't run Alaska or she's not smart enough because of a few interviews? You don't get to know an individual by what the media says. You need to do your own research. There is so much hate. I guess people must be very unhappy. Only those are the ones spewing so much hate and it is not just a party.

I'm so sick of hearing about this woman! I honestly can see why people are still talking about her– it's because she's attractive. And she's like a trainwreck. We don't want to watch, but we cannot help it at the same time. Just like the materialistic and consumeristic society we live in. It doesn't matter if you have brains, just as long as you are attractive and rich you will fit in just fine! That's why people support Palin. It doesn't matter if she breaks the law, is unethical at her job, or doesn't know basic geography or basics of the Constitution, all that matters is that she's nice looking and has a nice personality. I guess that's all the qualifications you need in order to be Governor or President of the USA. NO WONDER OTHER COUNTRIES THINK AMERICANS ARE STUPID!!!

Picking Sarah Palin for President is like picking Paris Hilton for President. I honestly cannot see a difference between the two!

EW   November 12th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

If Gov. Palin is as dumb as the liberals portray her then why is Alaska better off than states like Illinois that are completely controlled by liberals?

The answer is simple. Liberals are only tolerant of those that think like them. Freedom of speech for them is fine if you agree with tehm but the second you say something they don't like, they cry that people shouldn't be able to say stuff like that. To them, reaching across t he aisle means conservatives agreeing with them, not a compromise.

Why should conservatives cooperate with people that sat in the corner and pouted for eight years like a three-year-old? The answer is simple, because it is the correct thing to do.

Political parties will be the death of our nation.

rm   November 12th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

I am sure there a so many Republicans, men and women, who are sick of hearing Palin's name. I have seen a few interviews of Republicans and they are not praising her at all.

Chloe   November 12th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Cafferty asks "Why is there still so much interest in Gov. Palin?" Because most Amercans remain fascinated with her. Roughly half the country adores her and would like nothing more than for her to be bumbling around the bridge of the Ship of State. The other half just gets the darndest kick there out of her garbled syntax, cheerful blathering on subjects she's obviously never given a thought to, shameless backtracking and ruthless ambition.

What I would like to see is an admission of the failed campaign strategy to try to hustle the American people into accepting her as a credible candidate when they KNEW she was woefully under qualified. She blames the media, Bush, everybody else...truth is the McCain camp was highly selective about her time with the media and that was to their detriment. I cannot buy the idea that she was not ready to speak on the national stage. As a Governor who had all that great "executive" experience, she should have been able to speak coherently to any media. I could cut her slack on not knowing all of John McCain's positions due to how quickly they were jammed together, but not on any of the other stuff.

The right-wingers continue to say the press has been unfairly critical of Palin. Stop and think about a couple of things before continuing that argument. (1) What if Barack Obama had a daughter that was pregnant out of wedlock? The pregnant daughter and that winner of a future son-in-law wasn't even discussed during the campaign. I am going to go out on a limb and say it would have been in the news continually on Fox News, on Limbaugh's radio show, and every other born-without-a-brain talk show if the was Biden's or O'Bama's child. We all know why too! (2) Isn't she supposed to be Governor of Alaska and the mother of several kids in addition to planning a wedding for the aforementioned pregnant out of wedlock daughter? (3) I don't know which is more shameful of the following: Parading her Downe-Syndrome child around or the way John McCain loved to speak of his time as a POW as if he was the only Vet that ever went through a tough time during Vietnam or any other war for that matter. Luckily the public was smart enough to see through all of this phony pandering.

claudia dick   November 12th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

what about biden ,he earns is respect but even though palin still dont know to give a propper interview she keeps talking and talking like there is no tomorrow.she is like the gife that keeps on giving.

BM   November 12th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

She needs to stay in Alaska and keep her opinions to herself. As a female and working mother in America, I found it extremely offensive that the McCain campaign chose this hateful person thinking that the mere fact that she was female was enough reason for me to vote for her.

Fred Evil   November 12th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

LOL! PLEASE keep her around!

The Dems could use a LOCK on the Presidency for the next 50 years!

Scary? You betcha! She makes Bush look bush-league in his incompetence and ignorance!

zoe   November 12th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

why are we still talking about this premature speculation? take a poll on how many people want to keep reading about this loser.

Jeff, OR   November 12th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Maybe if she would stop agreeing to interviews about her days at RNC Highschool, people would have a more favorable opinion of her. She's asking for the spot light, but apparently has a hard time saying no (see $150,000 wardrobe).

The only thing she has brought this country so far is laughter and drama.

Rob   November 12th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

How about Biden, chuckles? Even though he is known to say stupid things, they are verbal slip-ups not attributed to a lack of knowledge or understanding. As much as he likes to talk he is bound to make mistakes.

Palin, on the other hand, demonstrated a lack of knowledge and understanding in several key areas. The simple questions that she bombed in the Couric interview clearly showed it.

Sue T   November 12th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

If the Republicans have learned anything this election, I hope it is how badly Palin hurt their ticket......if they want to get anywhere in our next elections they better ditch Palin........we haven't forgotten her tactic's this time around and we will remember everything she said and did......so they best let her stay in Alaska

Sandra   November 12th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

After she finishes this week of interviews, she should get out of the spot light for a while and concentrate on Alaska's serious election problems (Sen. Ted Stevens). She's starting to look more like a sore loser who can't let go than a politician. She should also stop doing interviews in her kitchen and with her baby in her arms all the time. Sexism works both ways and you never see a male politician doing interviews that way. We get it, your a women, a mother, a Governor, and just like the average person, don't oversell yourself.

Helena   November 12th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

As a woman and a mother I find Sarah Palin offensive in so many ways. All the women & mothers I know who voted for Hillary Clinton in the primaries voted for Barack Obama for President.

John   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

All I can say is she is a TRAIN WRECK, and I'm darn glad she is the GOP's train wreck!

Deb in Colo   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Make no mistake – Sarah Palin has already thrown her hat into the ring for 2012.

If I were an Alaskan I'd be PO'd that she's not back at her desk cleaning up the piles of paper from the last two months she took off.

Shari, NY   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

We want news on how jobs are going to be created. The bright folks from NYC's financial district who have just held a "pink slip party" are not interested in Palin just now. Her bread is well buttered and we need to concentrate on the present. You can resurrect her in 2010 (two years before the next election) which is just about the time needed to carry on with the circus like hoopla.

Celeste   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I really would have preferred if Palin would just disappear into the sunset. If she is interested in running in 2012 then what she should do is remove herself from public scrutiny and go and do some SERIOUS PREPARATION, by which I mean, learn more about national policies, study international affairs, and read more broadly to expand her limited knowledge of things that are relevant to achieving her goal of being a national player in politics. Running for the highest office is a really, really long shot. We need Presidents like Barack Obama. Enough of the 'Joe Six Pack' type leadership. We need to send a strong signal to the next generation of Politicians about the standard of education that we expect. That's the problem with this country: a failed public school system. NOT EVERYONE SHOULD BE PRESIDENT. We should teach our children to study and work hard and strive to achieve excellence. Then, and only then should anyone even contemplate running for high office. It's just preposterous that Gov. Palin should think herself qualified to be Vice President, much more President of the USA. Republicans do not place any emphasis on higher learning, and the sad thing is that they communicate that mentality to their supporters, a lot of whom are quite ignorant. Education IS a good thing, and once this country, especially Republicans, recognise that, instead of telling people that it's elitism as opposed to empowerment we will be better off as a people.

jw   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

If GOP wants to reach out to the public, please don't ever mention Palin's name again. If GOP wants to destroy the party, bring Palin on the ticket. I am so sick of her.

Irma in North Carolina   November 12th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Of course she was a drag on Mccains ticket. Just take a look at the hate rallys she gave and neither or mccain tried putting a stop on it, this is what caused the life threats on Obama, sounds like she was proud of that. Just go to the ancorhage daily news paper and see what they think of her. I dont see how she even became the governer of that state. And why cant they leave her out of the headlines, we have heard enought of her. If she is any where near the 2012 election as a republican I will go to being a independent. The republican party has become nothing but hateful, and they will work against Obama every chance they get. At least for the next four years we can sleep at night knowing that she wont become the next president. Sure am glad it was a task from god(as Sarah would say) to let them two loose this election. I cant believe that she thought the vp should give a concession speech. Well Maybe she will take Ted Stevens place in the senate maybe she will learn something.

Scott   November 12th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Seems the only ones talking about Palin are liberals. One more example of the mental instability of those on the left. Your brains are stuck in first gear per usual.

I do not understand why the press says she would be a viable candidate in 2012. Unless she radically changes her far right views to become more moderate (and that would make her a COMPLETE hypocrite), she has no chance of running. She is also... just dumb.

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   November 12th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

The election is over.......and continually crying over spilled milk will not add to Palin's popularity. It was an excellent strategy for McCain to select a woman as his running mate-right gender–wrong woman. Let the dead horses lie.

I don't think the republican party is stupid enough to have this idiot represent their party, but lets hope they do. A perfect ticket would be sarah the idiot and joe the plumber with tito the builder as chief of staff.

Ian Minneapolis, MN   November 12th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Ok...so thats in four years cnn. Let worry about today mmk? Plus, I think in 12' there are going to be a lot more rising GOP stars that will trump Palin in every political category. I just hope people don't fall for her as a gimmick they did this year....what a tool

James A Pratt   November 12th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

I'm suprised you people haven't figured out women and their politics. The last thing women want is some other woman to be more successful than they. Especially if she is good looking and smart like Sarah Palin and you stupid news people play right into their hand. Think about it how have women done in runs for the white house.Sarah Palin is 10 x sharper than barrack Obama and in the near future you are going to see it first hand. The man of change is looking at Sam Nunn and Warren Christopher Wow that will implement change. I'm sure you wont print this but it was fun saying it

Elizabeth - Texas - Former Republican   November 12th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Add half plus another one.

Palin is horrible. She talks in sound bits and says absolutely nothing.

If you want the Republican's to come back you need to get serious.

Kevin   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

She keeps digging herself a bigger hole to get out of if she ever plans to run for national office again. These latest rounds of interviews are only reinforcing the previous image of her. She has the personal touch required but she really needs to lay low and study up on issues and policy and come back when she is better prepared to speak substantively. Right now when you compare her to Jindal, Pawlenty, or Christ it's night and day where they are and where she needs to be.

Amy, Kazoo   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

How about you work on Alaska and not worry about 2012 already, Sarah. I know it's hard for you to just do your job and not give into reckless ambition, but like you mavericks always said, "country first".

AZ Lauren   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

God! I am so sick of hearing about this idiot! Will she just go back into the wilds of Alaska. What scares me most is some people are so stupid that they just look past her idiocy and obvious lack of knowledge and STILL want to vote for her. Don't we have enough idiots in office? Isn't it time that we as a people decide to put educated people in charge of this country? For the love of GOD.....She didn't even know what her job would be as Vice President!

Maura   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

I am tired of hearing her name.

No McPain   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Palin can talk, flirt, wink, cook moose burgers, or whatever she wants, but I would never vote for her. Her views are too extreme, she has limited education, and is simply not qualified to hold national office.

She is PTA material – that's it. Go away Sarah – we have seen more than enough of you.

YayObama   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Go away Sarah. The election's over and we're tired of you. You're doing more interviews now than when you were running for VP. Please go back to Alaska and let us be.

Lisa   November 12th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Sarah lay low for a while. Get out of the spot light. Maybe in a while people will forget what a flake you seem to be. You are still young enough to come back later and be better prepared to handle all this.

Tammy - KCMO   November 12th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

I hold an unfavorable opinion of the Republican party in general after this year. As an independent it is doubtful I will ever consider anyone in their party again. If the Republicans want Palin to run in 2012 – go for it. I'm sure the Democratic party and Independent voters like myself would look forward to it. Just shows the mentality of that party is still stuck in the dark ages.

I have said before, this is a very dangerous woman. Blind ambition at all costs. It seems there is nothing she wouldn't do to keep the spotlight on her. I hope I am not the only one who sees right through her. If the Republicans try and regroup, Bobby Jindel would be their best bet. he is smart and I truly think he puts country first. This woman is ignorant and definitely puts herself first.

Good riddance and the best thing that Democrats could hope for would be for her to be the Presidential candidate in 2012. Maybe she could go up against Hillary!

katiec   November 12th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

How can any intelligent man or woman have a favorable view of Palin. It is obvious the woman is not what we want representing our country with her campaign filled with lies, distortions, and inciting hate, fear,
anger and unrest in her rallies. Our country does not need the
division she tried to bring among us.
She has let her ambition overtake her concerns for family and proven to us and the world how unqualified, incapable and lac king in integrity and honor she is.
CNN, we are so tired of her. Let our dismay and distrust of her lie and move on to important issues.

Greg, NY   November 12th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Ok, this is 4 years away, seriously. Let me put that in perspective... 4 years is half the amount of time that the current president spent in office, which felt like a lifetime even before he won in 2004 to serve another lifetime.

Let's let this go for now and concentrate on fixing the country.

clean up washington   November 12th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Good luck to Palin. But going back to the comment by the Georgia congressman regarding marxist views etc, it seems time has come to demand all Congressmen take a course in: 1) U.S. Constitution 2) History of the United States; 3) European History; 4) Geography and 5) How to Keep quiet if in doubt of your abilities in the aforementioned areas.

Al, NY NY   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

"But its the liberal msm that's driving the unfavorables. They hate a strong conservative woman" BUNK. She doesn't know squat about world affairs and the thought of her taking office if something happened to JM scared the begessus out of nearly everyone except the hard core bible thumping, gay hating, gun totin' ditto heads that follow Oxycotin addict and Shammity. I PRAY that she comes out as the GOP candidate in 2012 because it will ensure a second Obama term. She will be just as clueless and divisive then as she is now

Kevin in ND   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Sarah Palin...

One mile high...

One inch deep.

Laverne   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I am all for women holding high executive positions. However, Sarah Palin does not represent the best. Sure, he has a folksy personality and all, but that does not cut it. You can't just govern on personality and by the way, hers is not that great. She is a devisive type of person and has the potential of setting American women back decades. I was and am not impressed by her on any level. I remember when the sexist charge came up when Hillary was running, she called Hillary a whiner and said she could never support a women like that and now she herself is charging the same thing, well madam Sarah, does this make you a whiner as well and should other women support you? She should go take care of her kids and reinvent herself with common knowledge of issues being on the top of the list. I think it is crazy for her to be running around America with her hollow message with no substance to it. If you are going to try and represent yourself let along America, please for the love of God go educate yourself! Obama may have not had any executive experience, but he clearly is an intelligent person who has knowledge of every issue that was presented to him.

patriot   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Aside from her political leanings, this woman has been plainly revealed as sorely lacking in knowledge (and even curiousity) of the world around her, willing to use her office to right petty, personal wrongs, and unapologetic about using tax dollars for her family's personal benefit. And 77% of Republicans would support Palin in future elections?? I thought Republicans were supposed to be the party of rock-hard high standards, of excellence, of shunning mediocrity. I challenge any of these 77% who are not uneducated right-wing nuts to explain why they would support her, without using the rationale of "she's like us", or "I'd like to have a beer with her", or "she's gorgeous". What is it you see in her that I am missing?

James Bruce   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Maybe a more honest headline would read "Nearly Half Hold a Favorble Opinion of Palin." 49% favorable should not be ignored to highlight 43% unfavorable.

hope   November 12th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

i am definatly in the half that opposes palin, she's not fit to lead alaska let alone the rest of america.

LIP   November 12th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Nearly half found her unfavorable, eh. That must be the half that voted against her, right, since she got 57,000,000 votes. That half must be the Democrats...a no brainer. That bundle of votes for her would make for a good argument that she should run again in 2012. Maybe this time around she can garner a little respect from all those woman bashers in the media.

R Wolf   November 12th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Please, President Obama hasn't even taken office yet and we're hearing about 2012. I will give up my TV set if I have to listen to four years of whether or not Palin is going to run for President. Doesn't she realize that outside of her ultra conservative core base, she's not that well respected. She whines about how the press has treated her, how even her campaign staff has treated her, but doesn't she remember all the lies, inuendos and misrepresentations she told about President Obama. You can't have it both ways, Sarah. Why don't you just do you job as Governor and let the rest of us enjoy our new adminstration.

TS, Texas   November 12th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

The direct contrast of Sarah Palin with Charlie Crist, Bobby Jindal, and Tim Pawlenty will be interesting to see, especially in the setting of a real debate.

Doug   November 12th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Sarah Palin is too simple-minded. She thinks God will do everything and make life good. I believe, but I also know that her view is not true. Otherwise, we'd all be living in a utopia of averice and we wouldn't need leaders or politicians or republicans or anything.

Brian G, Sugar Land, TX   November 12th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Yuck! Is that concise enough for you?

arc, Lugano CH   November 12th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Why is this such a surprise about the Shrilla from Wasilla?

Once the dust had settled from her ridiculous convention speech, it was clear that this fool was nothing of a stateswoman; instead she was nothing more than a whipped government mule on a 3-month lease with the McCain Campaign.

Her purpose really was and remains quite simple; that is to acknowledge and affirm the ignorant, the bigoted and the ones who are easily swayed by unfounded fear. She is the voice of those who need justification for their small-minded xenophobic and isolationist intellects which are trapped in the Ku Klux Klan's 1950s America.

Stu-Florida   November 12th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Geeze.. she got away with this one. I still can't believe McCain won't admit that if had chosen better, he would have done better. I believe he's still shaken up from the election. He's not of right mind.
This statement of hers "If I cost John McCain just one vote, then I am sorry" says it all!
Get real Palin... you cost him millions of votes.
Soooooo glad I changed party affiliation if this is what the future of the GOP is...
Now just where did I put those left over barf bags.... rrraaaalphhh

some guy in New Hampshire   November 12th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Palin is a person of average intelligence with no demonstrated knowledge of, or interest in, the problems faced by the country or the world. She's a spokesmodel for right-wing orthodoxy. After just ending eight years of that kind of presidency, are we ready to sign up for another?

Ghost   November 12th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

I'm sorry but can we stop talking about this wackjob?

Alex   November 12th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

If Palin were smart she should disappear for awhile. She's overexposing herself and if she really wants to make a run for 2012 she can't afford to wear out her welcome before Obama even takes office, especially if she wants to break the "double term" pattern set by GW Bush and Clinton.

Peet, Alaska   November 12th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

LS, Austin, Texas   November 12th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Palin just doesn't have what it takes to run for ANY high office in Washington. Especially after the show she put on with McCain – it was a horrible and dishonorable show they both put on. Too many people won't forget that – first impressions last a life time.

Brandon from Ohio   November 12th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

I'm surprised her ratings were as good as they were. I can't think of one person who has a favorable opinion of Palin out of all of the people in my 500 person office here in Ohio that likes Palin. I know one guy who liked her after her convention speech, but once the teleprompter was gone and he saw what was underneath he turned to unfavorable. This woman will never be elected on a big stage. She's too much of a whack job. Doesn't believe in global warming, thinks women should be forced to keep a baby procreated from forced incest/rape, thinks foreign policy experience is being able to SEE another country physically. This would mean that most high school foreign language field trips to France/Britain would equate to 16-18 year old kids having more foreign policy experience than Palin. There aren't enough stupid people in American to elect her to office.

Loyal Repulican for 49 years voting for OBAMA   November 12th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Scott NYC Independent   November 12th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Oh give me a break – you can't be polling people that have graduated high school. Anyone that was confused over the content of Africa or what periodical she reads is a waste of time and effort. Lets stop dummying down America and find intelligent, competent politians to run our government. You know the old saying stupid is as stupid does. Ignorance can be cured with knowledge but it seems Palin isn't about to begin studying or learning anything at this point in her life. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

MG   November 12th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

The reason we don't like her is because she is very mean spirited, but claims to be a christian. It appears she thinks god only works in her favor and not anyone else's. She can learn the things she needs to compete on a national stage, but curing mean and selfish is impossible.

Barack Obama hasn't even taken office yet.

Pretty please?

Ex-Republican for Obama   November 12th, 2008 12:16 pm ET
