MIAMI (CNN) – Two hours before Thursday morning’s press conference at the Republican Governors Association — her first since the Republican presidential ticket lost last week — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was still scheduled to appear alone. Instead, she spoke with a row of fellow governors standing silently behind her.
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told CNN producer Evan Glass that they all met at 9 a.m. - an hour-and-a-half before the press conference’s scheduled start time - and by then it had been "decided" that they'd all go out together.
An RGA official told CNN the reason for the change is a "long story."
He said that when the governors were all at their private morning meeting, someone brought up the desire to get beyond what happened in the McCain campaign and look towards 2009 and 2010.
Then, this source said, Palin piped up and said she agreed that she didn't want to talk about the past.
This source insists that it was then decided that the other governors in the meeting would go with her to her press conference as a "show of unity."
The source admitted that it may not have been easy for some "big egos" to go in and stand behind her, but they knew they'd be doing so.
Not present: the conference host, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. A Florida GOP source tells CNN "he didn't know about it,” because he wasn't at the morning meeting.
In another shift, Palin — who had been slated to take questions for 20 minutes or so - took just four press queries.
Why did Texas Gov. Rick Perry cut it off so fast?
"We were running behind schedule," insisted the GOP official.
Palin may not have wanted to talk about the past, but her speech was almost entirely about the McCain campaign; she included little in the way of detailed ideas about the way forward for Republicans, the theme of the panel.

ENOUGH OF HER !!!!!
STOP THE INTERVIEWS.
To Sarah and the GOP – May you all rest in peace. The GOP is dead . America will remember what republicans have done to this once great country, and how they stayed lock in step with the BUSH administration down the spiraling path that has brought so much pain to it's taxpayers.
Hey Sarah! The people from "Dancing with the Stars" are on the phone! Break a leg!
She took four questions but answered them all with one, very long, run-on sentence.
Enough already. Let this woman go back to Alaska. Tired of her run on sentences.
I am glad to see I am not the only one that think Sara Palin continue to answered questions with one, very long, run-on sentence. I always believe only stupid people talk alot and Sara Palin have proved to be one of those stupid people. I think she is trying to complete with President Elect Obama with his speeches and she have no clue she is so so out of her lead.
She just doesn't get it! Sarah may look the part...but when she opens her mouth....well, stupidity abounds! Maybe they like 'em like that in Alaska....but pleeze.....don't let her lead in the lower 48!!!!!
JEALOUSY
TOO FUNNY
Poor Dana Bash, her question was so pitiful
Go home Plain!! Just go home!!
Shamless, (it's shameless btw) I implore you to keep "soul-searching" as you call it. It will keep democrats in office for the foreseeable future of my generation! Hay is for horses, not donkeys.
following senate race in Alaska...appears Begich has chance to win...(personally think that this win will be arranged by Alaskan republicans who want to shut Palin down....
Time for Palin to go crawl back into whatever hole she came out of. She's the reason the repubs lost, no matter how much the ultra-right religious social agenda types protest.
Stop covering her – WE DON'T CARE!!!
Yea ...... But the lady is hot !!!!
WAY better that ole' Hillary !!!!!
She's been on so many shows when is she scheduled to appear on "Are you smarter than a 5th grader."
I have nothing against Ms. Palin personally. All I am asking of her is to put policy statements in a coherent way. Answer questions clearly and to the point. At the level she wants to function (Governor, VP etc), the fundamental trait she needs is to formulate policies and explain them so that they can be implemented. If she cannot do that, then she is not fit to be elected to those positions.
WHY, OH WHY, IS CNN GIVING THIS BIMBO NEWS SPACE, WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY MORE NEWSWORTHY STORIES TODAY???
They agreed to stand silently behind her to see if someone would push her off the stage.
Go home Sarah and parent your family.
Palin has yet to admit that she knows nothing about most things. She needs a speech in front her and talking points from someone else. Simply put, Palin is a joke who will continue to hurt the GOP until she is shut down by the GOP.
Her actions after the election are not helping insider accusations. This awkwardness shows that members of her own party are frustrated with her behind the scenes... imagine what her "camp" had to deal with during the campaign. This woman doesn't have a chance in 2012.
Please stop covering Sarah Palin!!! There are far more interesting people, events and issues that have an impact on our lives and need to be covered. Sarah Palin is not it. She is irrelevant.
I knew a woman who thought she could sing. Because she had money and powerful friends she was able to arrange a huge concert in a beautiful hall. Everyone attended and were appalled to hear how truly awful she was. She couldn't sing at all.
Unfortunately, after the concert everyone gathered around and praised her, thinking they were being kind and doing her a favor. What it really meant was that we were invited to attend another concert a month later.
No one showed up.
Someone should do Sarah (and the voters) a favor and tell her the truth! I don't want to hear her sing anymore.
P.S. voice lessons did not help.
I am not a Republican, but can we stop the Palin bashing. She is a woman and she has gotten farther than alot of you men will dream of.
If she is so boring why is all the media still talking about her? She is getting more press that our new President.
MS. PALIN AS A WOMAN AND A DEMOCRAT OF SOUTH FLORIDA I WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU IN YOUR VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUN.
thank you,
CNN, PLEASE MOVE ON!!! I'M HEADED TO MSNBC!
"Ive been to 57 States now"
– Barack Hussein Obama
"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television"
– Sentaor Joe Biden
Roosevelt wasn't the president and TV hadn't even been invented yet.
These guys say some pretty stupid things. Not sure if you are up on current events but Palin isn't going to running the country, these 2 morons will be.........
She's like the Britney Spears of politics. At first it was entertaining to watch her make a fool of herself, but now it's just gotten pathetic and sad.
