Awkward press conference for Palin

Palin's pres conference was changed at the last minute.
Palin's pres conference was changed at the last minute.

MIAMI (CNN) – Two hours before Thursday morning’s press conference at the Republican Governors Association — her first since the Republican presidential ticket lost last week — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was still scheduled to appear alone. Instead, she spoke with a row of fellow governors standing silently behind her.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told CNN producer Evan Glass that they all met at 9 a.m. - an hour-and-a-half before the press conference’s scheduled start time - and by then it had been "decided" that they'd all go out together.

An RGA official told CNN the reason for the change is a "long story."

He said that when the governors were all at their private morning meeting, someone brought up the desire to get beyond what happened in the McCain campaign and look towards 2009 and 2010.

Then, this source said, Palin piped up and said she agreed that she didn't want to talk about the past.

This source insists that it was then decided that the other governors in the meeting would go with her to her press conference as a "show of unity."

The source admitted that it may not have been easy for some "big egos" to go in and stand behind her, but they knew they'd be doing so.

Not present: the conference host, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. A Florida GOP source tells CNN "he didn't know about it,” because he wasn't at the morning meeting.

In another shift, Palin — who had been slated to take questions for 20 minutes or so - took just four press queries.

Why did Texas Gov. Rick Perry cut it off so fast?

"We were running behind schedule," insisted the GOP official.

Palin may not have wanted to talk about the past, but her speech was almost entirely about the McCain campaign; she included little in the way of detailed ideas about the way forward for Republicans, the theme of the panel.

the problem is that sarah palin is currently and actively continuing her warped personal ambitions at the expense of others. they are not in "the past". if she was truly concerned about america, she would resign as governor (opening the governor's mansion in juneau for someone who wants to live there), stop cloaking herself in religion, live a truly christian life, and stay in wasilla (preferably reading books in the library she wants to ban).

I'm going to STOP reading or listening to the news until this nightmare of a woman is OUT of it. She is getting more coverage than Biden, and he won. Her statements about helping the Obama administration make me want to vomit, as she was so quick slander his good name every chance she got. How sick is that? What a hypocrite. She needs to get out of politics and into show business because I think that's where she truly wants to be. She can 'pal around' with the likes of Spears, Lohan, and Hilton. It's easier to change the channel then!

Would love to hear from governors of real states for a change... Is there a reporter with the "stuff" to ask one of the others a question directly?

Why does she constantly speak in the wrong tense, third person, in reverse?

I'm going to agree with some of the prior posts here. If CNN doesn't stop covering her, I'm forced to go back to bad reality TV.

What?: "She is bright, articulate and hopefully some day leading this country". You're kidding right??? Hate to break it to you, but she's neither bright nor articulate. Just put her alongside a woman (or a man) that actually is bright and articulate and I think (hope) you'd see the difference.

    Enough about her already...

Kraig – nobody has every called Palin "articulate" before. I'd love to hear your command of the english language.

Why are we still hearing about Palin? She lost with McCain last week. We don't hear so many news stories about McCain. If Palin thinks she has the capabilities of running for President in 2012, then she is even more delusional than I had initially thought. Please stop reporting on her. She is a complete hypocrite and enjoys speaking out of both sides of her mouth. Now that the election is over, she wants to suck up to Obama and help him? Come on. Stop with the ludicrous news stories. Enough is enough.

Please. Enough of her and enough of the media beating the drums for 2012. We deserve a break from politics for at least three years.

It's appalling to think that partisanship has gone so far as to encourage people into brainwashing themselves into thinking this woman is either "bright", "articulate" or in any way the future of the Republican Party.

This woman is a self promoter and the other govenors are starting to resent it. She is just an attention seeker and her 15 minutes of fame have run out. Please go back to Alaska and learn Geography.

As a Democrat, I'd love to see her stick around until 2012. I can't think of a better way to guarantee four more years for Obama/Biden!

Just 4 questions allowed?....show of support / unity? Seems like the republicans have not confidence in Palins ability to answer the questions in an intelligent manner.

Hey, I saw McCain on Leno and the interesting thing to me was he never said anything to the effect that the attacks (supposedly from within the McCain campaign) against Palin were wrong and should stop.

  16. Hope Personified

Geez.... this woman will do anything to get out of caring for her baby! First the kids were taken out of school and trotted around the county-side during the campaign. Now Sarah's in Florida doing all she can to duck her parental responsibilities. If she keeps this kind of traveling up, one of those kids is bound to get into some legal trouble or pregn....
    Uh, never mind!

As a woman, I was proud that Sarah was the GOP pick for the VP slot. I hope she runs again in 2012. It's time for us ladies to have someone representing us in the White House... I'm a mom, and I know she's the right one for us.

    Sarah Palin – Jezebel

Probably most deceiving to many is that Jezebel was religious and did religious things. She was the daughter of Ethbaal, meaning "with Baal". She converted her husband Ahab to follow Baal. Ahab married her against God's command. The name Jezebel specifically means "without dwelling or habitation." A true explanation of Jezebel can clearly be described as the worship of self-will. Jezebel was teaching and leading God's bondservants astray. Over the centuries, her Spirit has been around, seeking to attack the prophetic ministry given either on a person or in the Church, and where the prophetic gift is present, you can be sure that sooner or later the Jezebel spirit will manifest itself. I sometimes doubt that the person carrying the Jezebel spirit has any notion that she or he carries it, since this person is determined in reaching his or her goal at any price.

What, no comment on what she was wearing?
Oh, you little goofballs, always trying to put down a woman that has risen to the top (btw, she has a down syndrome baby that you would have wanted to be aborted, imagine the horror to a liberal, an "imperfect baby").
Even some liberal woman are aghast that a conservative woman has more power then they ever imagined.
She didn't pull in those tens of thousands at her speeches because sounded like Biden.
Nothing like a smart, good-looking, powerful, conservative woman to scare a liberal.
As usual she was articulate, which bothers a lot of women haters.

Oh Sarah Palin, she may be tremendous for Alaska, but after listening to her the past couple of days I can see why her husband goes dog sledding so much.

Although not a republican, when you take a step back this is when the party could realign it's philosophy and reach across the center and pick up some conservative democrats. The republicans need to move away from the far right, push away from the Palin types and move a bit more towards the center. If this is accomplished they could regain many seats.
